Sail around Palm Jumeirah in an electric catamaran for just Dh100
Dubai Destinations: The electric catamaran service operates from The Pointe.
With the blissful winter weather upon us, UAE residents cannot get a better time than now to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy an idyllic sea trip across Palm Jumeirah in an electric Catamaran.
To access the vessel, visitors have to park their cars in the east part of The Pointe and walk towards the beach where you can rent a catamaran from Costa Azzura (‘Blue Coast’ in Italian).
Once you've done the booking, you will be given life jackets and shown how to operate a walkie-talkie which will connect visitors to attendants on the shore.
They are also shown how to link up with the onboard Bluetooth speaker so that they could listen to their own music while sailing. Alternatively, one can always enjoy the blissful sound of the gentle splashing of the waves.
No previous sailing experience needed
The two-seat catamaran has a luxurious wooden finish, minimalist and elegant interiors and is covered by a canopy. ‘ No experience in sailing is needed ’ are the six words every sailing novice wants to hear and sure enough, one of the assistants assured us while headed to our catamaran that:
“It’s really easy to operate, just like Playstation.”
We weren’t quite sure what he meant but one look at the joystick situated between the two seats explained it all.
“Just press up to go forward, down to go back, and left and right, see? Very easy!”
We were told – and it was though manoeuvering the joy stick and understanding the speed of the catamaran with respect to the wind takes a few minutes.
The journey on the sea
For the next 15 minutes or 30 minutes (our recommendation), enjoy the scenic serene atmosphere across the coastline and take photos from the sea of some of the iconic buildings on The Palm such as Atlantis The Palm, Royal Atlantis, Aquaventure, among other majestic structures. The Palm monorail also passes over the sea, above the catamaran.
“For now, we have two catamarans but later this month we are receiving four new catamarans from Italy,”
said Sachin Konga, supervisor for Costa Azzura, adding that they will be even more luxurious. Since they are powered by electricity – with no motors – the catamarans are also eco-friendly, he explained.
Costa Azzura is popular amongst tourists and residents alike. The have been operating for around a year. The service was earlier located on the west beach before moving to The Pointe. It operates all year round, but sailing is more popular during the cooler months.
“On busy days, we operate up to 20 to 30 trips per day,”
Visitors always give great feedback after their trip, added Sachin.
“They say it was very relaxing and enjoyable.”
Cost of trips
For two people, the trip costs Dh200 for 15 min and Dh350 for 30 minutes. If one decides to sail solo, the prices are Dh100 for 15 minutes and Dh175 for 30 minutes. The operating hours from 9am to 11pm.
For those who fancy the shimmering lights on the water, a night trip is also possible as the catamarans are equipped with in-built lighting

Cruise in Style on The Pointe’s Luxurious Electric Catamaran for just Dh 100
By Mala Yachts -January 20, 2023
The Pointe’s electric catamaran service has no match
UAE citizens have no better opportunity than now to escape the city and take an electric Catamaran ride over Palm Jumeirah in the beautiful winter weather.
Visitors must park in the east section of The Pointe and moreover, walk to the beach to charter a Costa Azzura catamaran (Italian for “Blue Coast”).
After booking, you’ll get life jackets and learn how to use a walkie-talkie to communicate with shore personnel.
They learn how to connect to the onboard Bluetooth speaker to play their own music while sailing. The soothing sound of waves splashing is another option.
With no sailing experience
The two-seat catamaran features a canopy, exquisite wood finish, and basic, stylish interiors. “No experience in sailing is needed,” one of the attendants said as we boarded our catamaran.
One glance at the joystick between the chairs clarified his meaning. “Just push up for forward, down for back, and left and right, see? We were told it was straightforward, but controlling the joy stick and knowing the catamaran’s wind speed took a few minutes.
For the next 15 or 30 minutes (our advice), enjoy the quiet shoreline and capture shots from the water of The Palm’s prominent buildings like Atlantis The Palm, Royal Atlantis, Aquaventure, and others. The Palm railway crosses the water over the catamaran.
Sachin Konga, Costa Azzura supervisor, said, “For now, we have two catamarans but later this month we are expecting four new catamarans from Italy.” They will be much more luxury. He said the catamarans are eco-friendly since they use energy instead of engines.
Tourists and locals love Costa Azzura. Since a year, they’ve operated. The Pointe replaced the west beach service. Sailing is more popular in winter. “On peak days, we conduct 20 to 30 trips,” he stated.
Sachin said visitors usually leave nice reviews. Like, “They enjoyed it.”
Two persons pay Dh200 for 15 minutes and Dh350 for 30 minutes. Solo sailing costs Dh100 for 15 minutes and Dh175 for 30. 9am–11pm.
Night trips are feasible on catamarans since they have illumination.

Costa Azzurra at The Pointe stop on the Palm Monorail offers the electric catamaran experience. It is a unique experience with some stunning views on show. An electric catamaran is a small two-seater watercraft that you can drive yourself (very easily) and this particular one you can drive yourself while enjoying the amazing, the fascinating panoramic views of the gorgeous and iconic Atlantis Palm. It is located at The Pointe stop on the Palm Monorail (which is an experience in and of itself) and you can enjoy it while you spend a nice morning or evening out here. They’re open from 9 am to 10 pm, so you can enjoy this as a morning, afternoon or evening experience. In this post, we’ll discuss how to get there and how much it costs. And also our thoughts on the whole experience will outlined here.
How to get there
You can of course just drive it directly there (taxi or your own car), but if it’s your first time it might be nice to experience the Palm Monorail at the same time. So, get on the Palm Monorail and leave at The Pointe stop, which is the penultimate stop. Then it is only a few minutes away from the station towards the beach. You can’t miss it. It’s a small little stand, but it is easy to locate.
How much it costs
It costs 100 AED for 15 minutes per person or 175 AED for 30 minutes for 2 people. I think this is a little expensive for what you get, but it’s pretty decent to try out as it is quite a unique experience.
Book here .
Our experience
We didn’t book prior to arriving, but there was no queue or anything when we got there. They have two catamarans and they were both being used at the time, so we had to wait about half an hour. The service was quite cold and a little standoffish, which is strange for customer service. We were not greeted nor were we asked what we want. We just stood there and had to eventually call out and say “hellooo..”. He then went on to tell us that they are fully booked and nothing is available, to which I asked fully booked for the whole day? He said no, only for the next half an hour. So, you can picture how this conversation was going and how we really did not feel welcome at all. Nonetheless, we booked the slot and came back when we were told. When we arrived, we were given the two catamarans (because there was 3 of us and it is 2 people per catamaran). To our surprise, one of those catamaran was roofless and get this the time was literally midday when the sun was at its peak! I was shocked at how they were even offering this at this time and how this is never shown or mentioned in any of the advertising. I feel this is an important detail that needs to be mentioned for those who are going during the day and are in a group of 3 or more. Anyway, I of course took it and I roasted in the notorious Middle East sun. Roasted! Before boarding I did ask if I’d get a discount for getting on the roofless one, to which the response was a stern of course not.
Would I recommend this experience? Maybe yes if you really want to and if you go in the evening as I hear watching the fountains at night is a whole another experience!! If you go in the day, only go as a couple and maybe book in advance.
