Yacht called Kaos vandalized by climate activists in Ibiza

By Emily Mae Czachor

July 17, 2023 / 4:00 PM EDT / CBS News

Spanish climate activists defaced a multimillion-dollar superyacht docked in Ibiza over the weekend, a social media video shows. The yacht, a sprawling vessel called Kaos, is reportedly owned by Nancy Walton Laurie, a billionaire Walmart heiress.

Activists from Futuro Vegetal , an environmental group that aims to fight climate change, shared a video on Twitter Sunday morning showing them standing in front of the Kaos yacht and holding a poster that reads, "You Consume Others Suffer." At least one portion of the boat's exterior, the one closest to land, is seen covered in a mixture of red and black spray paint.

Members of Futuro Vegetal pointed out that carbon emissions across the board are highest among the world's richest people.

"The richest 1% of the world population pollutes more than the poorest 50%," the activists are heard saying in the video.

"They are condemning us to a future of pain, misery and desolation," they continued. "They are destroying our planet, compromising the habitability of the land and everything, to lead a standard of living that goes beyond the limits of reason."

The two climate activists who appeared in Futuro Vegetal's social media video were detained on Sunday, according to the group, which said in an update shared on Twitter that the pair would likely be released on Monday afternoon.

According to  Yacht Bible , an industry news site that says it tracks yacht purchases and ownership globally, Kaos belongs to Laurie, the  granddaughter of Walmart cofounder  Bud Walton. Laurie inherited a stake in Walmart from her father and received enough stock in the company when he died in 1995 to make her a billionaire, according to Forbes. She took the 268th spot on the magazine's billionaires list in 2023, and her net worth is valued at around $8.7 billion, according to Forbes .

Grassroots climate activists, climate scientists and world leaders have for years been calling on the rich to reduce carbon emissions, as they point to the disproportionate greenhouse gas contributions from wealthy countries, like the United States, and individuals. In 2020, the United Nations urged the world's richest 1% to cut their carbon footprints by around 97% in order to stave off ongoing climate change.

Its report that year warned that the global emissions gap, meaning the "difference between where we are likely to be and where we need to be" on climate policy, was dangerously large, and the wealthy were primarily responsible. At the time, the U.N. report said just 10% of the world's population emitted nearly half of the world's carbon pollution.

futuro-vegetal.jpg

In a report published in September 2020, the Stockholm Environment Institute estimated that the richest 10% of people, globally, contributed to roughly 50% of worldwide carbon emissions in the years 1995 and 2015 — the timeframe in which the institute conducted its study. By comparison, the poorest 50% were responsible for 7% or 8% of emissions.

Citing portions of that study in its own report on greenhouse gases and climate change, the International Energy Agency noted that the world's richest 0.1% contribute more to global carbon emissions each year than the rest of the wealthiest 10% combined, with the richest 1% polluting roughly 1,000 times more than the poorest 1%. Another report by Oxfam last November suggested that just 125 of the world's wealthiest billionaires emit 3 million tons of carbon dioxide per person, on average, each year, which is about a million times higher than the average annual emissions of the bottom 90%.

CBS News reached out to Walmart and to Laurie but did not receive immediate replies.

Two arrested following Kaos vandalism in Ibiza

Two people have been arrested after vandalising the 110-metre motor yacht Kaos while she was manoeuvring into port in Ibiza on 16 July.

A video shared by the organisation responsible for the stunt shows two individuals spraying red and black paint onto the yacht's stern while she was pulling into port, while a third member of the organisation filmed the incident.

Members of the deck crew were quick to act, deterring the activists with a waterhose and then hosing down the paint, which is understood to be biodegradable.

The local Policía Nacional has since arrested two individuals. According to the activist group, the pair were detained overnight in Ibiza and are due to be released today (17 July), following which they will be expected to appear in court.

Kaos departed the port after the incident and has since arrived in the bay of Palma, according to BOATPro data. The extent of the damage is not clear.

A spokesperson for Oceanco , which delivered Kaos as Jubilee in 2017, declined to comment on the incident.

KAOS Super Yacht Hit By Climate Activists While Moored in Ibiza

' src=

KAOS Super Yacht: On Sunday, July 17, 2023, two climate activists from the Spanish group Futuro Vegetal spray-painted the superyacht KAOS, moored in Ibiza. Nancy Walton Laurie, the billionaire Walmart heiress, reportedly owns the yacht.

The climate activists sprayed the super yacht with red and black paint and held a sign that read: “You Consume Others Suffer.” They also posted a video of the protest on social media.

Futuro Vegetal is a Spanish climate activist group founded in 2019. The group’s name means “Future Vegetal” in Spanish, and it is a non-violent direct action group that uses protests, blockades, and other forms of civil disobedience to raise awareness about the climate crisis and demand action from governments and corporations.

Apart from their most recent action spray-painting the KAOS superyacht, the group are well-known for their disrupting blockade of the Spanish Parliament in 2020. The activists said that they targeted KAOS because it is a symbol of the excessive consumption and pollution that is causing climate change.

The activists also said they wanted to draw attention to the fact that the wealthiest 1% of the world’s population is responsible for more emissions than the poorest 50%.

Swift arrests by local authorities

The Spanish police quickly arrested the activists, but they were later released. Worryingly, Futuro Vegetal said they plan more protests against superyachts and other symbols of wealth and excess.

The spray painting of KAOS has sparked a debate about the role of climate activists and the ethics of property damage. Some people have criticised the activists for vandalising the yacht, while others have praised them for raising awareness about climate change.

It is important to note that, thankfully, the activists did not damage the yacht’s hull or engines; they used biodegradable paint in their attack that was easily removed. The spray-painted graffiti was quickly washed off, and the yacht was back to her former pristine condition and back in use within a few short hours of the incident.

How the yachting industry is reducing their environmental impact

The yachting industry has been facing increasing pressure to reduce its environmental impact. In response to this pressure, the yachting industry has already started to take steps to become more sustainable.

Some of the ways that the yachting industry is approaching climate change include:

ibiza yacht protest

Deciphering Financial Considerations When Purchasing a Luxury Yacht

  • They are using more efficient engines and propulsion systems. Many yacht builders are now using more efficient engines and propulsion systems that can reduce fuel consumption and emissions. For example, some yachts are now equipped with hybrid or electric engines.
  • They are using alternative fuels. Some yacht builders are also exploring alternative fuels, such as methanol, solar power, and wind power. These fuels can help to reduce emissions and improve the environmental performance of yachts.
  • They are improving hull design. The design of a yacht’s hull can significantly impact its fuel efficiency. Yacht builders now use more efficient hull designs to reduce drag and improve fuel economy.
  • They are using sustainable materials. The materials used to build a yacht can also have an environmental impact. Some yacht builders are now using more sustainable materials, such as carbon fibre and recycled plastics. These materials can help to reduce the environmental impact of yacht construction.
  • Educating owners and operators. The yachting industry is also working to educate owners and operators about the environmental impact of their yachts. Many yacht clubs and associations now offer training programs on sustainable yachting practices.

The spray-painting of KAOS Super Yacht is a reminder of the growing tensions between climate activists and the wealthy elite. As climate change becomes more of a threat, we will likely see more protests from activist groups like this one.

Boat staff had to hose down a Walmart heiress' $300 million yacht after climate activists blasted red and black paint onto it with fire extinguishers

  • A $300 million superyacht owned by a billionaire heiress was doused in paint by activists on Sunday.
  • The two activists arrived as the yacht was leaving Ibiza and sprayed its stern in red and black.
  • Staff could be seen trying to hose away the paint while the activists held up a protest sign.

Two climate activists vandalized an American heiress' $300 million superyacht in Ibiza on Sunday, bathing the vessel's stern with red and black paint.

The pair used fire extinguishers to spray paint on the Kaos, a megayacht owned by the billionaire Walmart heiress Nancy Walton Laurie, then held up a sign that read: "You consume, others suffer."

The yacht appeared to be leaving port when the activists doused its rear, and boat staff could be seen immediately attempting to wash away the paint with hoses, according to footage tweeted by Futuro Vegetal, a Spanish organization lobbying for climate action.

"We can't go on like this, it's a matter of life and death," Futuro Vegetal tweeted .

Futuro Vegetal tweeted on Sunday that the activists targeted the Kaos because Walton Laurie was "one of the richest women in the world."

The two activists were detained and are expected to be released on Monday at noon, the organization said, without specifying what they were charged with.

Port authorities activated an interior maritime plan to assess whether the paint spilled into the water could be cause for concern, the local outlet Periodico de Ibiza reported .

Futuro Vegetal and the Walton Family Foundation did not immediately respond to requests for comment sent outside regular business hours.

The Kaos is a 361-foot luxury yacht owned by Walton Laurie, the youngest daughter of Walmart cofounder James "Bud Walton." She is worth more than $7.7 billion, per the Bloomberg Billionaires Index .

Her vessel, which flies under the Jamaican flag, has four decks and can accommodate 31 guests and 45 crew, per the yacht-enthusiast website Yacht Bible .

It hosts 16 guest cabins and at least 24 staff cabins as well as an elevator, a steam room, a gym, a cinema, and an indoor beach club.

It costs from $20 million to $30 million every year to keep the Kaos running, according to Yacht Bible.

On Friday, three activists from Futuro Vegetal also ran onto a runway of an airport in Ibiza to spray yellow paint on a private jet and disrupt airport operations .

July 18, 2023: A previous version of this article incorrectly stated one of the colors sprayed onto the Kaos. The vessel was sprayed with red and black paint, not red and white paint.

A group of environmental activists in Spain vandalized a superyacht owned by a Walmart heiress.

Futuro Vegetal, an activist group based in Spain, sprayed paint on the massive yacht Kaos as it tried to leave port in Ibiza.

The group, which advocates for civil disobedience to confront the ongoing climate crisis, said they targeted the yacht because the owner is one of the wealthiest women in the world.

The boat’s owner, Nancy Walton Laurie, is the daughter of Bud Walton, who co-founded retail giant Walmart with his brother Sam Walton in 1962.

FuturoVegetal @FuturoVegetal WE ACT We spray paint using fire extinguishers against the 300 million euro mega-yacht of Nancy Walton, heiress to #Walmart and one of the richest women in the world with a fortune of 8.7 billion dollars

Laurie inherited a stake in the company from her father when he died in 1995, instantly making her a billionaire.

Forbes estimates her net worth is now around $8.7billion, making her currently the 254th wealthiest person in the world.

In a video posted by the group on Twitter, a group of activists use fire extinguishers to douse the stern of the boat with red and black paint.

Crew members on the Kaos can be seen immediately trying to wash the paint off with hoses as the boat quickly moves away from the docks.

The activists then unfurled a banner that read: ‘You consume, others suffer.’

The Kaos is a 361-foot superyacht that was purchased by Laurie in 2017.

It was originally built for Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani, the former emir of Qatar. It was put up for sale after the monarch’s death in 2016.

It has cabin space able to fit 31 guests and 45 crew members, according to online yacht database YachtBible . The site estimates the ship costs about $30-40million per year to run.

The massive ship also has a full gym, a sauna with a steam room, a movie theater, an indoor beach club, and a small hospital. It employs a full crew to maintain the gym and spa onboard.

Futuro Vegetal was previously responsible for a similar stunt on Friday at Ibiza’s airport.

After breaking onto the airport’s runway, the activists then covered the windows of a private jet with black and yellow spray paint.

They then unfurled a banner that read: ‘Your luxury = our climate crisis.’

On Monday, Futuro Vegetal reported that the two activists responsible for the yacht painting were detained by the Guardia Civil for about 18 hours after getting arrested for vandalism.

‘As always, they had very little plant-based food and the activists have been able to eat very little,’ the group said on Twitter.

They also claimed the detained activists were handcuffed the entire time, and were refused water from 9.00am to 2.00pm during their detainment.

This is 'Kaos', the luxury mega yacht attacked by activists in the port of Ibiza

AOS yacht (formerly JUBILEE and AL MENWAR) is an award-winning superyacht that was recently refitted with a completely redesigned interior. At 110 metres (361ft) and 4,523 tons, she was the largest yacht ever built in the Netherlands at the time of her launch in 2017. Last Sunday activists from the environmental organization Futuro Vegetal sprayed paint on a megayacht moored in the port of Ibiza to protest against the climate crisis.

In a statement, Futuro Vegetal explained that the action has been developed this Sunday around 09.00 hours and with it puts the end of the campaign 'Jets and Yachts, the party is over', convened by Extinction Rebellion Ibiza.

The activists have shown a banner where they could read 'You consume other's suffer', assuring that «It is the people who are at the top of the social pyramid, who put the life of the planet at their service and force people to work to sustain their system, exploiting animals and destroying the territory no matter how much suffering and death it entails».

The victim is none other than the luxury mega yacht 'Kaos', owned by Walmart heiress Nancy Walton. The entrepreneur bought it from the Qatari royal family in 2019 for 280 million euros after the death of the emir in 2017, who could not enjoy it. Walton completely reformed it in the shipyards of Luerssen, according to El Español.

Currently, the boat has a heliport at the bow, swimming pool, gym, bathing area, spa, cinema and even a small hospital. Luxury Launches even claims to have a huge aquarium inside.

The 'Kaos' can accommodate up to 31 passengers distributed in 16 cabins in the 110 meters of length and a weight of 4,253 tons, which positions as the 39th largest motor yacht in the world.

This luxury yacht reaches a speed of 35km/h and consumes 391,000 litres of fuel to travel 9,000 km.

Megayacht Lady Moura targeted by eco-activists in Ibiza

Thursday, April 11th, 2024

Written by: Marine Industry News

Activists from Extinction Rebellion have staged another protest targeting superyachts and wealthy tourists.

The 104.85-metre superyacht Lady Moura, built in 1990, is owned by Mexican billionaire Ricardo Salinas Pliego. It is often called the world’s first ‘megayacht’ and is known as the first superyacht to feature a beach club.

The yacht was docked in Ibiza over the Easter weekend when the protesters unfurled a banner that reads: “You are kicking us off the island. Your luxury is our crisis.”

The activists later wrote in a social media post on Instagram that the Mexican businessman had no concern for the “suffering of others or inequality or injustice”.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Extinction Rebellion Ibiza (@xribiza)

The post, originally written in Spanish, continues: “He cares little about the housing crisis that we suffer in Ibiza, the cause of which is largely the creation of Ibiza as a luxury destination. The elite of the mega-rich constitute a real danger to all humanity. We denounce the mega fortunes, their impunity for tax evasion and abuse of the Earth’s resources.

“Their fortune is our misery, and we do not tolerate it. The reality is that as the rich get richer, the poor get poorer. As Oxfam highlights, the mega-rich are part of the problem of growing inequality since they put business and personal profit before justice and humanity, and economic growth before the habitability of the planet.”

One local responded with a comment reading: “The island has been super-exploited for years now, but I think the problem is not with entrepreneurs but a government that profits from it..”

Another writes: “These yachts leave a significant economic spillover in the local economy, wouldn’t it be better to have fewer people on the island and that each person contributes more substantially? Or is it better to have cheap mass tourism that comes to consume drugs, alcohol and make a mess?”

A third writes: “With wealth normally comes greed, and often wealth comes from greed. It’s a human condition, and I wish you good luck in trying to stop it because you will need all the luck you can get.”

In 2022 and 2023, activists from Extinction Rebellion blocked the entrance to the METSTRADE superyacht forum , in what it described as ‘a legal demonstration’. Protestors demanded that both the superyacht industry and the Dutch government realise that there is no place for superyachts in a just transition to carbon neutral.

Image of paint sprayed on superyacht in Ibiza by protestors. Yacht belongs to Walmart heiress

Extinction Rebellion says the number of superyachts currently cruising is estimated at more than 9,300, with a combined value of more than €57bn.

One superyacht with permanent crew, helipad, submarine and swimming pool emits more than 7,000 tons of CO2 every year: that is 1000x more than the average European, according to the organisation.

Meanwhile, it says, the devastating effects of climate change are visible around the world, and people who have historically contributed least to global warming are being hit hardest.

In 2023, environmental protestors from the campaign group Futuro Vegetal spray painted Walmart heiress Nancy Walton Laurie’s $300m superyacht, Kaos with biodegradable paint two times, as part of its campaign ‘Jets and Yachts, the party is over.’

Vandalism Strikes Ibiza Port: ‘Kaos’ Megayacht Destroyed

Ibiza Incorporated - IBZ INC - All Things Ibiza - NEWS

Activists Protest Against the Climate Crisis

Around 9:00 a.m., two activists from Futuro Vegetal unleashed an act of vandalism in the port of Ibiza. Using fire extinguishers, they sprayed paint on the mega-yacht owned by one of the world’s wealthiest women, as a powerful protest against the Climate Crisis. This action serves as the culmination of the campaign “Jets and Yachts, the Party Is Over” organized by Extinction Rebellion Ibiza, calling for the banning of private jets and an end to luxury emissions.

The ‘Kaos’ Megayacht and its Staggering Stats

Sailing under the Jamaican flag, the ‘Kaos’ megayacht stretches 110 meters in length and weighs a remarkable 4,523 tons. Built in 2017, its value is estimated at 300 million euros, with annual maintenance costs ranging from $20 to $30 million, according to superyachtfan.com. The owner, Nancy Walton, is one of the heirs of Walmart and possesses a current fortune of $8.7 billion, as reported by Forbes.

Activists Speak Out Against Economic Inequality

Futuro Vegetal took to their social networks to share a statement condemning the economic system that perpetuates privileges for a small, privileged class. Their banner, which reads “You consume others’ suffering,” highlights the group’s belief that those at the top of the social pyramid exploit animals, destroy the environment, and prioritize their own interests over the well-being of the planet.

The Urgency of Climate Action

Amidst a week of extreme weather events, with temperatures reaching 60ºC in Extremadura and record-breaking heatwaves, Futuro Vegetal emphasizes that the Climate Crisis will result in endless suffering for all inhabitants of the planet. They remain steadfast in their determination to mitigate the impact of the crisis, stressing the need for collective action and systemic change.

A Call for Unity and Change

Futuro Vegetal warns that repression and electoral processes alone cannot halt their resolve. They assert that only the collective union of people against the powerful’s necropolitics can generate the change necessary to address the agri-food system and alleviate the worst consequences of Climate Chaos.

The Journey Continues

As life unfolds, Futuro Vegetal remains committed to raising awareness and taking action to combat the Climate Crisis, despite the challenges they may face.

Over the past few weeks, Ibiza ’s most exclusive boats, luxury cars and even nightclubs and restaurants have become the target of protests by climate change and Marxist activists and the situation has caused widespread concern, according to the Bulletin’s sister paper El Periódico de Ibiza y Formentera.

The latest incidents in the port of Ibiza have caused many tycoons to reconsider their plans for this summer and they are opting not to go to the island with their yachts. The situation has been triggered by the damage caused to the super yacht owned by Walmart heiress Nancy Walton ’s yacht Kaos.

According to El Periódico de Ibiza y Formentera there have been changes in dates and cancellations of mooring reservations in the port of Ibiza after the attack on Nancy Walton’s luxury yacht Kaos.

Several of the port’s shipping agents contacted the port’s marina to enquire about the situation. Although a message of calm has been conveyed, the fact remains that the events of last weekend have provoked huge concern.

“The acts of vandalism are damaging the island’s image in a comprehensive way,” said Juan Miguel Costa, director of Ibiza Tourism, who clearly points the finger at those responsible, the Futuro Vegetal activists, a splinter group of Extinction Rebellion, as the ones to blame for damaging the island’s reputation.

Laurie inherited a stake in Walmart from her father and received enough stock in the company when he died in 1995 to make her a billionaire, according to Forbes. She took the 268th spot on the magazine's billionaires list in 2023, and her net worth is valued at around $8.7 billion.

Grassroots climate activists, climate scientists and world leaders have for years been calling on the rich to reduce carbon emissions, as they point to the disproportionate greenhouse gas contributions from wealthy countries, like the United States, and individuals. In 2020, the United Nations urged the world's richest 1% to cut carbon footprints by around 97% in order to stave off ongoing climate change.

What is obvious is that you are jealous of the success of these risk takers and (ahem) Russian criminals. What I suggest as an answer is to employ old-fashioned justice. If someone disfigured my 30 year old yacht I'd expect the authorities to arrest and, hopefully, discipline the offenders. So, if they do thousands of euros worth of damage to a rich person's yacht they should be made to pay for the damage or put in jail for enough time to ensure that the example is made to their friends. If you can't do the time, don't do the crime, remains a sensible maxima.

There is now a very real war brewing between the obscene tourist overcrowding, cruise ships, celebrity yachts..and local people who are still trying to live a normal life in Mallorca. Living in Mallorca has become basically unbearable, unless you stay in your mansion in Deia and never have to go to the supermarket in Palma or, God forbid, the beach in summer!!

So the UN report actually validates the argument presented by the protesters about the super rich contributing enormously to the problem of emissions. This is the real and only story that matters. But what, since the report, has been done to address this imbalance. Diddily squit! Meanwhile it is all getting palpably worse year on year and now we learn that the 1.5c degree target is going to be well and truly missed, bringing a tipping point ever nearer. At least these people are bringing it back to the worlds attention. Not necessarily in an effective way because all the chatter is about the damage done to a yacht, but their desperation for something to be done is very real.

€300m superyacht Kaos attacked by climate change protestors

Eco protesters spray paint on a superyacht in Spain.

Eco protesters sprayed paint on a superyacht in Spain.

The superyacht Kaos, said to be worth €300m ($337M), has been attacked with paint sprayed by fire extinguishers in Ibiza Port by the Spanish climate change protest group Futuro Vegetal.

The 110m (360ft)  Oceanco  vessel is reportedly owned by Walmart heiress Nancy Walton Laurie. After spraying the white yacht’s stern with red and black paint, protestors held up a sign claiming “You consume, others suffer.” Two protestors were arrested at the scene yesterday (July 16th)

The attack follows a similar action against a private jet at Ibiza Airport on Friday (July 14th). A statement on the protest group’s website admitted: “We spray paint using fire extinguishers against the 300 million euro mega-yacht of Nancy Walton, heiress to Walmart and one of the richest women in the world with a fortune of 8.7 billion dollars.”

The yacht protest marked the end of its current campaign, said the group . “The action puts the finishing touch to the “Jets and Yachts, the party is over” campaign, convened by @XRIbiz /Extinction Rebellion Ibiza, who demand a ban on private jets and an end to luxury emissions,” according to its website. The attack on the yacht and the private jet before it sparked a range of comment on social media platforms such as Twitter. (See below).

Superyachts are no stranger to paint-based protest action. In February this year, protestors painted the words Pandemic Profiteer on the 40m (131ft) sailing yacht Lady M belonging to the Scottish entrepreneur and baroness Michelle Mone. The action, in a harbour near Barcelona, Spain by the protest group Led by Donkeys, followed allegations that the Conservative peer may have made undue profits linked to the provision of personal protective equipment (PPE) during the global pandemic. Mone has consistently denied any wrong doing.

T he environmental group Futuro Vegetal adds another act of vandalism this morning in Ibiza to protest against the climate crisis. On this occasion, they have sprayed with red and black paint the mega yacht of the American Nancy Walton, one of the richest women in the world and heiress of Walmart. The boat was docked in the harbor when the activists covered it with paint.

The organization has posted several photos on its social networks showing them spraying the yacht. "We sprayed paint using fire extinguishers against the 300 million euro mega yacht of Nancy Walton, heiress of Walmart and one of the richest women in the world with a fortune of $8.7 billion," they have posted on Twitter.

Moreover, as they tell on Instagram, the action puts the finishing touch to the campaign "Jets and Yachts, the party is over", called by Extinction Rebellion Ibiza, who are calling for a ban on private jets and an end to luxury emissions.

The arrested persons have already been released

The two climate activists of Futuro Vegetal arrested on Sunday in the port of Ibiza for throwing red and black paint on the megayacht 'Kaos' have been released from court at noon on Monday. The charge of damage against them remains.

The Guardia Civil arrested them Sunday morning after they sprayed the boat, owned by Nancy Walton, heiress to the Walmart department store chain and one of the richest women in the world.

Climate activists storm Ibiza beach club to expose “incompatible” lifestyles of the rich

Activists from the environmental organisations Futuro Vegetal and Extinction Rebellion have taken part in a protest at a luxury beach club in Cala Jondal , Ibiza, to warn of the “incompatibility of sustaining the lifestyle of the mega-rich and tackling the climate crisis”.

Protesters carried banners reading “Private Jets and Mega Yachts=Climate Energy Injustice”, “You consume, others suffer” and “Your luxury, our climate crisis”, as indicated by Futuro Vegetal in a statement.

During the protest, one of the activists painted on one of the walls of the premises the figure 1.5ºC, in reference to the temperature increase limit set by the Paris agreement and that “everything points to the fact that it will be exceeded this decade.”

The action is part of the campaign ‘Jets and yachts, the party’s over’,” called by the platform ‘Eivissa es rebel-la’, composed of various local climate organizations and which aims to “cause disruption throughout the week in Ibiza” and with which they demand “the prohibition of private jets and the elimination of luxury emissions”.

Futuro Vegetal has asked that, in a context of “climate crisis”, the luxury emissions of mega jets “should be the first to be stopped”. “An unbridled lifestyle of a minority cannot be allowed to impose climate chaos on the rest of the population.” the organization said.

“Society is suffering unprecedented extreme weather events that are going to get worse, so an immediate reduction in emissions is needed if worst-case scenarios are to be avoided, but in Ibiza a lifestyle is being promoted that is destroying the planet and the lives of millions of humans and other animals,” Vegetal Future has argued, to which it added that “following this model will mean not being able to grow food.”

The activists were evicted from the premises by the establishment’s security personnel. This is the second action of the campaign, which began on Monday with an action by Futuro Vegetal at the door of a discotheque.
