Juliet Sailing and Diving was founded in 2003 by Captain John Beltramo, who had explored the Bahamas since the early 90s. He had been diving all over the world, and chose to base a scuba diving liveaboard company in the Bahamas because there is something special here. Sold in 2016 to long-time crew member and captain, Liza Hash, Juliet still runs primarily out of Miami, providing trips to the Bahamas in the Bimini area where there is an abundance of fish life and beautiful dive sites. Here we find some of the most breathtaking reefs along the eastern edge of the Santaren Channel – when the weather cooperates, that’s where you’ll find us.

If you want to experience the best in Southern California SCUBA diving, you’ve come to the right place.

What will I see?

The diving here is world class with everything to offer from kelp forests to wrecks. Visibility at the islands averages 50 feet and can exceed 100 feet. Swimming through a kelp forest is spectacular. Many compare the experience to flying through a forest of trees with fish instead of birds.

Private charters

Charter the entire boat for one to five special days of private diving for your group. You can visit your favorite dive spots or discover new ones. Groups can have a maximum of 26 passengers for day trips and 22 passengers for overnight and multi-day trips on the Sundiver.

Dive equipment

You can rent all the dive equipment you need from us or bring some or all of your own. We recommend that you wear a 6.5mm wetsuit or a dry suit for best comfort.

The Humboldt is a scuba diver’s dream dayboat. We dare to say the most popular San Diego dive boat. Co-designed by one of Waterhorse Charters’ founding fathers, our largest vessel is a prime example of  Newton’s acclaimed dive special model .

They are recognizably so safe that the San Carlos’ Coast Guard only approved of a Newton 46’ to sail through hurricanes. Not to mention, Newtons are the main dive boat featured on the popular Art To Media Dive Maps.

Which boat...

Should i charter.

It’s totally up to you to decide which boat fits your group’s needs better. The main differences between the two boats are their capacity and some of their amenities ( e.g. Humboldt has a hot shower and an inboard air compressor, the Camarão doesn't have either ).

If your group size allows for it, we recommend the following:

• Scuba diving: Humboldt
• Snorkeling: Orion
• Freediving: Orion
• Wildlife watching: Humboldt
• Party cruises: Humboldt/Island Time

is my public charter on?

On our public trip schedule , we start most trips with a capacity of 6 guests, wich is the current capacity of the Orion. When we hit that guest count and if our schedule allows for it, we automatically 'bump' that trip to the Humboldt, and open up another 14 spots.

If you have physical special needs,  please reach out to us and we’ll make sure to accommodate you on the right boat for you.

Don't want to charter a full boat?

No problem! Our public charters run weekly to San Diego scuba diving and freediving dive sites. To join those trips, all you have to do is book your spot online.

Stats: 72.25 metres, Clelands Shipbuilding, 1980, 28 guests, 23 crew

Dive facilities: Following a four-year rebuild and a 16-metre extension completed in 2020, Blue de Nîmes now has even more space for a full scuba diving set-up. The yacht is home to 12 Nitrox cylinders and a compressor, plus a custom-designed fishing and dive tender for accessing the best scuba spots in the Mediterranean during summer and the Indian Ocean and Red Sea in winter.

Onboard luxuries : Perfect for larger groups or extended families, former ocean liner Blue De Nîmes offers 13 cabins across her Pier Vittorio Cerruti -designed interiors. Dive facilities: PADI-certified RoMa has all the gear and credentials for underwater adventures in the Mediterranean. According to her broker, she is the first yacht to be have been awarded the Yacht Scuba Safety Certificate and even has an on board diving school for beginner guests to get trained up. Dive facilities: Explorer yacht U-Boat Navigator has been specifically designed for underwater experiences in far-flung regions. The professional scuba centre offers tri-mix facilities for mixing breathing gases and a decompression chamber for up to six guests. Her toybox also comes with a custom three-seater Triton submersible which can descend to 1,000 metres below the surface, and a second custom-built one-seater Triton used for tandem dives and filming, with each charter group offered a custom-edited film at the end of their trip. Our dive boat holds 19 divers comfortably with plenty of elbow room to easily get in and out of your dive gear. Our custom designed dive platform and deep ladder makes exiting and returning onboard simple and safe. Safety is important to us! Our Coast Guard certified dive vessel carries all the necessary electronics and safety equipment required by the Coast Guard and much more. Our onboard distress radio beacon (EPIRB) allows us to travel outside the typical 3 mile radius, too.

Amenities are also one of the features that sets our dive boat apart from the norm. Our captain and crew pride themselves in keeping a very clean and tidy dive boat. There is plenty of room, both below the seat and a large dry storage area, for all your items. Our marine head is always clean with plenty of amenities. Two fresh water rinse hoses are available onboard. For photographers, we have a large fresh water rinse bin for your underwater cameras and a dry area below deck if you need a place to carefully work on your camera gear. We offer a large ice cooler with FREE beverages and fresh fruit. Best of all, our dive boat is 60% shaded for those who prefer to stay out of the hot Florida sun. A spacious bow is available if you want to get a nice Florida tan, too!

Scuba diving requirements

You need to have scuba diving certification in order to be able to dive. Being PADI certified (the most reputable scuba certification course globally) means you can enjoy subaquatic life to its fullest during your yacht charter vacation.

It is possible to get your scuba diving qualifications at sea if you aren't already PADI certified

Not going to be PADI certified when you begin your crewed yacht charter? Not to worry, it's also possible to get your diving qualifications while you are at sea. 

Most charter vessels have at least one member of crew on board who holds a PADI Dive Instructor certification, enabling them to teach guests how to dive. They are also the ones responsible for guests' safety and are qualified to lead dive groups, being well-aquainted with the underwater terrain.

There also may be crew trained to a Divemaster level on your superyacht who can assist. Such crew can teach and certify new divers but are less senior than PADI Dive Instructors, and can only assist in dives rather than lead directly.

Scuba diving courses during your charter

There are various diving courses for non-certified guests that you can do during your vacation, depending on your level of ability. There are a multitude of different courses one can take, from entry-level to advanced level programs. Below are the two most popular courses taken during a yacht rental by guests without existing PADI certification:

PADI Discover Scuba Course

If you want to try out a spot of scuba diving and build confidence in the water, without needing to invest too much of your time learning during your vacation, then this introductory course is for you. No prior experience is required, and you will learn the basics of diving (without becoming a certified diver) alongside a PADI professional over the course of 3-4 hours.

During the PADI Discover Scuba Diving course, you will:

• Be shown how to use the scuba equipment correctly when you dive, including the dive gauges, tank, buoyancy control device, regulator, mask, snorkel and fins.
• Do a confined training dive in shallow waters, learning essential PADI skills that you will use for every subsequent dive, including how to breathe underwater. 
• One pleasure dive once you feel you have confidently mastered the PADI diving skills, limited up to 12 metres in depth

The course is open to all group sizes and to those over 10 years old, but you need to be in reasonable health, as well as be able to swim.

PADI Open Water Diver Course

The next level up and the most popular course available is the Open Water Diver Course. Once successfully completed, you will be PADI certified, and it takes around 4-7 days to complete. 

The Open Water Diver Course consists of:

• A PADI eLearning module: taking around 5-10 hours to finish, you learn the basic principles of scuba diving.
• Practice scuba diving: in a pool or shallow dive environment (between 40ft and 60ft) you will do practice scuba dives. Once you have built confidence in your new scuba abilities it's out onto the open waters where you will do four full dives.

To do the course, the only prerequisites are that you are medically fit to dive, can swim and you are 10 years or older.

Note: to speed up the process of getting PADI-certified, it is strongly recommended that you do the PADI eLearning module before you commence your yacht charter, if at all possible. After all, this last thing anyone wants to be doing during their luxury vacation is having to spend time learning theory instead of enjoying themselves!

Expedition diving

If you are keen diver looking to uncover unexplored territory underwater, then you may be interested in charter onboard an expedition yacht . Specifically designed for the discerning adventurer, you could choose to cruise on one as a standalone vessel or as a shadow support yacht, and ideal for scuba divers looking to cruise to remote, difficult-to-reach locations.

They are also perfect for experienced divers eager to unearth mysteries in the deep dark blue below, as they typically feature diving equipment that isn't on board the average charter vessel: like submersibles that can take you down to depths of 3,000ft.
