Where to go mega-yacht-spotting in Mallorca

With its prime position in the glittering Mediterranean and ever-growing popularity amongst celebrities, tech moguls and the rich and the famous, Mallorca has established a position as the port of choice for the worlds most fabulous megayachts. The island builds on its reputation and invests further in creating state-of-the-art facilities and booming service industry around them. Even if you don't yet own a magnificent boat, make sure you include a trip to one of the marinas in Mallorca to get your fix of yacht-spotting! There are over a dozen marinas in Mallorca, but three of them stand out if only super-yachts float your boat (pun very much intended!). Palma de Mallorca: Real Club Nautico & Club de Mar Palma has two neighbouring marinas located right in the heart of the city center. Real Club Nautico is the oldest and biggest marina in the Balearic Islands. It's also the one best known for hosting an annual Copa del Rey Regatta, where one of the crews is skippered by the reigning King of Spain, Felipe VI. The event takes place at the end of July - try to arrange your trip to coincide and get a glimpse of the competition. Club de Mar is just very slightly west of the Palma Cathedral and Real Club Nautico. It boasts facilities for mooring the biggest yachts, up to 135m in length (plus a waiting dock for boats up to 350m). You can expect to see the most magnificent and biggest of super-yachts here. Clients include Jeff Bezos, Steve Jobs' heirs, David Geffen, and a whole host of tech moguls, industrialists and celebrities. Both 'Clubs' are easily accessible and a perfect place for yacht-spotting - this is where the biggest boats are moored. We particularly recommend an evening walk when the boats are gloriously lit up! Puerto Portals About a 10-minute drive west of Palma is a slightly smaller, but equally exclusive Puerto Portals. It's the axis of a whole upmarket neighbourhood and very much an engine for the whole local economy. Known as the ‘millionaires’ marina', it's not just about the boats, it's a great place to spend the day. With plenty of luxury boutiques, pop-up shops (like Elizabeth Hurley's beach pop-up), lots of restaurants and bars, it's the ultimate place to see and be seen. It's also known for organising fabulous events, including an annual Christmas Market - make sure you have a look at the agenda to plan your visit. Port Adriano A little further west of Palma and Puerto Portals lies the last marina on our list. It's a fairly new addition to Mallorca, having been built in 2007. But what a spectacular addition it is! Possibly the most technologically advanced marina in the Med, it was designed by Philippe Starck. The main building was shaped to resemble a mega-yacht itself. It melts into it's surrounding, with the woodwork mirroring that on the decks of moored yachts, bollards and lighting being reflecting the design of the yachts themselves. It's a particularly great place for yacht-spotting as it can accommodate boats up to 80m long, having had the floor of the harbour dredged to create enough depth for them. Port Adriano was built to become a lifestyle axis for the neighbourhood, so you can expect plenty of shopping, dining and events. Make sure you plan a few hours to spend on your visit.

Other than the marinas, Mallorca offers plenty of places to go yacht-spotting. During the high season pretty much any cove will be speckled with a few at least. But if you'd like to make yourself more comfortable, buy a day pass in a hotel like Hospes Maricel, Nixe Palace or Pure Salt Port Adriano . Over the past two summers Mallorca has been graced by some of the newest, mast lavish and most expensive super yachts in the world and this afternoon, Monday, the 14th longest private yacht in the world docked in the Club de Mar in Palma with some very careful help from the port pilots.

The yacht’s owner is Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed al Nahyan. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan is a member of the Abu Dhabi royal family and a businessman. He is a half-brother of the current President of the UAE Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The megayacht SWIFT 141 has a steel hull acquired from the former Royal Dutch Navy Frigates. The yacht features a futuristic design with narrow beam and high propulsive power along with a remarkable interior and exterior designed by the famous Pierrejean Design Studio in Paris. Named Swift 141 during development, Yas is based on the hull of a former navy frigate .

How to apply for your press accreditation?

Access and fill in the form by clicking on the button at the end of this page. Once submitted, you will receive automatic confirmation that your details have been registered correctly. Once all information has been processed and approved, you will receive then an email confirming your press accreditation. You will be able to collect your accreditation, as well as all the information regarding the fair at the Palma International Boat Show offices from 24th April 2024 (c. Moll Vell, s/n. Palma).

Press accreditation allows you free access to the exhibition area of the show from 25th to 28th April 2024, as well as to the conferences, activities and the press room. You can also apply for accreditation at the press room offices during the Palma International Boat Show. The application form is individual. If a team is travelling to cover the show, each member of the team must complete the form independently. Anyone who enters an e-mail address in the registration form that has already been entered previously to apply for a new accreditation will be automatically rejected by the system.

The yacht belongs to Russian billionaire Leonid Mikhelson, a successful businessman considered one of the wealthiest individuals in Russia and among the wealthiest in the world. He is the CEO and largest shareholder of Russian natural gas company, Novatek, and also holds significant shares in other Russian companies in the gas, oil, and petrochemical industries. The yacht's annual maintenance costs are around $15 million, the cost of a yacht can vary greatly based on factors such as size, age, luxury level, materials, and technology used in its construction.

YASMINE OF THE SEA : is 80 meters long and values at 100.000.000 USD

The Luxury yacht has an identical sister ship named Constellation.Constellation was built for Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the former Emir of Qatar. While M/Y Stargate was built for his half-brother Sheikh Abdullah. Both yachts were built by yacht builder Oceanco, in the Netherlands. Oceanco is considered to be one of the most exclusive superyacht builders in the world. They have built some masterpieces as KAOS, Black Pearl, and Barbara. Both motor yachts Stargate and Constellation were designed by The A Group. While Camillo Costantini is responsible for Stargate’s interior and JP – Fantini Design is responsible for Constellation’s interior.

LIMITLESS : is 96 meters long and values at 100.000.000 USD

The luxurious mega yacht 'Limitless' has recently docked in Palma after a journey from the Caribbean and a stopover in Gibraltar. The yacht is owned by Les Wexner, the CEO of Brands Corp, which owns Victoria's Secret. Astilleros de Mallorca is responsible for maintaining 'Limitless', as well as other large yachts like 'Infinity'. The yacht has been sailing the seas since 1997, it was built by the German shipyard Lurssen and designed by Jon Bannemberg. At the time of its construction, its navy blue steel hull and white aluminum superstructure stood out at Club de Mar, but now it may be overshadowed by newer mega yachts. However, it still maintains the elegance of a contemporary classic, which some current avant-garde designs lack. The yacht can accommodate 12 guests and 20 crew, has a cruising speed of 17 knots and can reach a maximum of 25 knots. The interior of the yacht was designed by François Catroux and Tim Heywood, but details have been kept confidential.

VA BENE : is 47.5 meters long and values at 8.000.000 USD

Eric Clapton is the owner of the luxury yacht, Va Bene. He acquired the yacht in 2005 and had her undergone a refit, updating the installations and redesigning the interior. Prior to Clapton's ownership, the yacht was owned by Bernie Ecclestone, who named her Petara.
