Wyndham to Debut Its First Luxury Hotel in India in 2025

Wyndham Hotels & Resorts will open their first luxury hotel in India next year in Udaipur, while expanding their presence in the country with more hotel openings and strategic alliances.

Savills  issued a market report saying the number of five-star rooms in  Hanoi  in  Vietnam  rose by 3% in the second quarter of 2024 from the first quarter with many four-star properties being upgraded. The firm said the city now has over 11,000 hotel rooms across 67 projects. One of the four-star properties that were rebranded or upgraded is the  Movenpick Living West  in  Cau Giay District . It was formerly the  Eastin Hotel & Residences . Savills said the hotel and condotel businesses are capitalizing on the rebound in tourism to rebrand or develop new projects to boost their competitiveness and market share. Savills said the average hotel occupancy rate during the second quarter in Hanoi was 67%, up 2 percentage points from the first quarter and up 3 points year on year. The average tariffs at four and five-star rooms fell -6% from the previous quarter but were up 9% from a year ago.

Indochina Capital  reported that Vietnam received 8.8 million foreign tourists in the first half of 2024, higher than the pre-Covid level of 8.5 million.  CBRE  reported RevPAR in Hanoi and  HCMC  reached 80% of pre-Covid levels in the first half of 2024, up from the 70% seen a year ago.

This past Saturday set a new summer day record in  Macau  with 166,562 tourists arriving. That is 7.5% higher than the highest single-day total in 2019. Since the summer holiday period started on July 1, the average daily visitor count has been 107,313, 91.9% of the levels seen in the summer of 2019. International visitors have averaged 5,495 per day so far this summer.

Wyndham Hotels & Resorts  will launch their first luxury hotel in  India  next year when they open the  Wyndham Grand  in  Udaipur . The chain is also considering strategic alliances with white-label operators to boost its presence in the country and bring in more brands. Wyndham has 60 operational hotels in India, with 45 hotels in the pipeline. They believe there is no better time to expand in India with upcoming hotel openings this year in  Srinagar ,  Nainital ,  Ayodhya ,  Vrindavan , and  Wayanad . This follows Wyndham opening three hotels in the country in the first half of the year. The company recently appointed  Shailender Singh  as the market manager for  Eurasia .

Marriott International’s   Moxy Hotels  brand announced the opening of  Moxy Mumbai Andheri West , the brand’s debut in  Mumbai , India. The hotel is nestled in the heart of Mumbai’s  Andheri West , a prime location just 9 kilometers from  Mumbai International Airport . The hotel offers 105 stylish and cozy rooms, the  Moxy Bar  in the heart of the lobby, along with social spaces like the Lounge and Library. The hotel has three distinct F&B spaces, with the  Moxy Kitchen  being the all-day dining venue, the Moxy Bar and sitting on the rooftop, adjacent to the infinity pool is  Moxy Sky . The hotel also offers a fully equipped gym, two event spaces and more.

Indian Hotels Company Limited’s   ama Stays & Trails  premium homestay offering has reached a significant milestone with over 200 bungalows in its portfolio, spread across offbeat locations in more than 15 states in India. IHCL said a dual growth strategy has fueled the expansion, including penetrating high-demand clusters such as  Goa  and  Maharashtra  and building a footprint anchored around IHCL hotels to leverage cross synergies and service excellence. IHCL said the development of homestay villas is attracting fresh capital through greenfield projects. They said over 65% of their pipeline consists of new builds. The portfolio currently includes 203 bungalows, with an additional 97 under development, spread across idyllic destinations.

The  Royal Turf Club of Thailand  was reported to be looking at investing TBH200 billion (US$5.9 billion) in an integrated resort project comprising a casino, horse racing facilities and luxury hotels. This is as the government continues, despite the political turmoil, to more towards approving the country’s first legal casinos.  The Nation  said a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between RTCT and potential investors for a complex to be known as “ The Royal Siam Haven .” They did not specify where the project was to be located. The complex would also feature a golf course, yacht club, luxury dining, a theater, medical tourism hospital and a learning center. A study by  Thailand’s Finance Ministry  will probably energize the opposition groups that are beginning to get louder. The study suggested 90% of the visitors to these entertainment complexes will be local Thailand residents. Of the 10% of the visitors that will be from outside Thailand, 90% of them are expected to be from mainland  China . We point you to the failure of casinos in Vietnam and  South Korea . While they were foreigner-only casinos and they could only rely on foreign visitors, they were all built on the expectation that they would have a very steady stream of Mainland Chinese visitors. For various reasons that did not happen, ranging from  Beijing  cracking down on their Chinese nationals visiting casinos outside of Macau to government issues causing a rift between the countries.

Hilton  announced  Hendrick Calles  was named Area General Manager for  Seychelles .  Henar Gil  joined Hilton as Cluster General Manager,  Marc Schumacher  became General Manager, and  Ryan Roach  was named Country Commercial Director. Hilton operates six hotels across five of their brands in Seychelles, including the recently opened  Waldorf Astoria  and  Canopy by Hilton . Calles adds the Area General Manager position to his current GM role at  Hilton Seychelles Northolme Resort & Spa . Gil will be Cluster GM covering  Mango House Seychelles LXR Hotels & Resorts  and Canopy by Hilton Seychelles. She previously managed major hotels in  Mexico . Schumacher has been with Hilton for 26 years, most recently in  Morocco . He previously had been GM at Hilton Seychelles Northolme Resort & Spa and  DoubleTree by Hilton Seychelles Allamanda Resort and Spa . Finally, Ryan Roach comes to Hilton from a hotel company based in  South Africa  where he was Commercial Director, strategically managing teams to maximize revenue across 23 properties.

No. Alcohol, wine, champagne etc. is not allowed.

No. We do not serve alcohol on the yacht.

On-the-spot booking and payment is not possible. Advance booking is mandatory.

Morning and afternoon slots:  Book at least 2 to 5 days prior. Evening slots:  Book at least 5 to 7 days prior. Weekend slots:  Book at least 7 to 10 days prior.

You can also make a booking on the same day or 1 day prior.  It all depends on availability of the yacht you wish to book.  If at the time you decide to book, the yacht is available, you can pay and book it.

The total booking duration is 2 hours. In these 2 hours, the sailing duration is approx. 1 hour 30 minutes. So, 1 hour 30 minutes is the time you will spend on the booked yacht.

30 minutes are kept aside for travelling from the shore to the yacht and then after sailing, from the yacht back to the shore.

No. The minimum booking duration for sailing in Mumbai is 2 hours. The actual sailing time is approx. 1 hour 30 minutes.

This is the recommended time duration for a good sailing experience overall. Less than 1 hour 30 minutes feels incomplete and more than this feels a bit tiring.

On small sailboats and yachts, we usually do not recommend you to book for 3 or 4 hours as it may make you feel a little dizzy. 1 hour and 30 minutes of sailing time is just ideal for a good sailing experience. However, you can book for longer duration at an additional cost.

Yes. There will be a trained and experienced sailor on the yacht to sail the yacht for you.

You will sail approximately 1.2 km to 2.5 km out into the open sea. You will not be seen from the shore from Gateway of India.

Knowing how to swim is not mandatory for sailing cruises in Mumbai. You will be given a lifejacket to wear.

You will get a beautiful view of the Gateway of India and Taj hotel as you begin. You will pass by the boats and yachts parked in the Mumbai harbour as you sail out into the open sea. The view of the shore from the sea is truly magnificent. You will get a view of the lighthouses (Sunk Rock light house, Dolphin light house, Prongs light house), structures built in the middle of the sea (Oyster Rock and Middle Ground) and if you are lucky, you may also spot dolphins!

For birthdays / anniversaries, we can decorate the yacht with balloons, get a cake and flower bouquet. Prices for the same are given below.

Balloon decoration:  Rs. 300 Cake (half kg eggless chocolate cake):  Rs. 700 Flower bouquet (approx. 10 roses):  Rs. 300 Flower bouquet (approx. 20 roses):  Rs. 500

You have to reach the sailing venue (Jetty No. 5) just 15 minutes prior to your booking start time.

For example, if you book the 4:00 pm to 06:00 pm slot, your reporting time will be 03:45 pm

You will get to go sailing even if you reach late by some time. However, please note that the sailing time is not extended beyond your booking end time.

We do not provide assistance with parking vehicles at the sailing venue.

There is a pay and park service in the lanes around Taj Hotel. You will have to find parking on your own and then walk to the sailing venue (Jetty No. 5).

Once your plan is finalised (decided which yacht you wish to book, date and time slot), you will have to make payment to confirm the booking.

Payment can be done via bank transfer (NEFT / IMPS), UPI, Google Pay, credit card, debit card and net banking. We will share our company bank details / online payment link with you via email or WhatsApp.

Once the payment reflects in our account, the booking confirmation and related details will be sent to you via email and WhatsApp.

Mumbai Boat Hire: How and Where to Charter a Yacht

Get a Different Perspective of Mumbai Aboard a Boat

If you want to see Mumbai from a different perspective, one of the most memorable things you can do is go on a Mumbai boat trip. If you're on a budget, taking the ferry to the Elephanta Caves or Alibaug are options.

However, if you don't mind splurging, you can charter a luxury yacht and determine your own itinerary. Both day and overnight trips are possible, as well as sunset trips around the coast of Mumbai.

The season starts in October and ends in May. Boating operations are suspended during the monsoon, from June until the end of September.

My Experience

Fortunately for me, one of my friends decided to charter a boat for his birthday. It was an attractive and immaculately clean little yacht that had space for up to 10 people. Inside was room to sleep, a toilet and basin, and other facilities such as a stereo.

We were picked up from the Gateway of India late in the morning and headed to Alibaug for a picnic lunch at tucked away Awas Beach. We brought our own food and wine, and had a blissful day away from the hustle of the city. In the afternoon, we cruised around Mumbai Harbor as the sun set, and docked back at the Gateway of India in time to relax on the boat and watch the Gateway and the Taj Palace hotel become illuminated in the evening. It was one of the most magical experiences I've had in Mumbai.

Itinerary and Package Options

Boat hire companies generally offer a lot of flexibility in terms of packages and destinations. Other options, apart from Alibaug, include:

• Marine Drive and the Mumbai skyline (also beautiful at night, with the chain of lights glittering like their name "the Queen's necklace").
• Bandra-Worli Sea Link.
• Northern beaches such as Madh Island and Gorai.
• Fishing in the open waters towards the west.

Packages include:

• An evening cruise, dinner, and overnight in Mumbai Harbor.
• A day on board the yacht.
• A day of water sports at Mandwa beach near Alibaug.
• A weekend trip with beach hopping around Alibaug.
• Photography along the Konkan coastline.

Boats: What to Consider

The first thing you should decide on is the type of experience you wish to have -- are you looking for a boat that's built for speed (a motor boat) or leisure (a sail boat)? You'll need to take into account the sailing capabilities of yourself and your crew. It's harder to maneuver longer yachts, so the destination will also play a big role in the size of the yacht you hire. In addition, it's necessary to consider the number of people that will be aboard, and the services you require. Do you want food and beverages to be provided, or will you bring your own?

Most yachts are hired on an hourly basis. Rates start from about 5,000 rupees for two hours, for a small boat that can fit four to six people. Larger groups of eight to 10 people can expect to pay around 10,000 rupees for two hours, going up to 15,000 rupees for boats that can accommodate 15 people.

UberBOAT Speedboats

Want to go from Mumbai to Alibaug (Mandawa jetty) or the Elephant Caves? Uber launched its speedboat service in January 2019. You can now hire a speedboat through the Uber app to travel between these destinations. There are two options:

• UberBOAT -- priced at 5,700 rupees one way, for six to eight passengers.
• UberBOAT XL -- larger speedboats that can accommodate more than 10 passengers and cost 9,500 rupees one way.

The service operates between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Bookings need to be made at least 15 minutes in advance. Travel time from Mumbai to Alibaug by speedboat is about 20 minutes.

You may/or may not be asked to show the same to security officials before sailing. - Avoid eating heavy food before 1 hour of the event time. - Avoid wearing high heels - Since it is going to be windy, dress accordingly - Other additions like Balloon Decoration, Fruit Champagne, Bouquet and Cake can be arranged for at an additional costing Cancellation by the participant: - 20% cancellation charges are applicable if cancelled before 8 or fewer days - 50% cancellation charges are applicable if cancelled before 5 or fewer days. - If any cancellations are made before the 2 days or less of the start date of the trip, 100% of the total tour cost will be charged as cancellation fees. Refund Policy: - No refund will be provided in case of traffic/ late arrival. - Change/cancellation in timing or weather may happen due to Government clearance or bad weather. Adventure Geek will not be liable for the same. In this case, you will get an option to either re-schedule your booking or get a 50% refund. - As the starting point for sailing is near Gateway of India, bookings may be cancelled last minute if there are restrictions by government authorities, police or defence authorities. What all can be done for Celebration? We can arrange Cake,Balloon Decoration,Fruit Champagne.  

Do you provide anything to eat on the boat? No. We do not provide any food items. You can carry some finger food, snacks, soft drinks etc. on your own to eat on the boat. Can I carry alcohol, wine, champagne etc. on the boat? No. Alcohol, wine, champagne etc. is strictly not allowed. How far will we go into the sea? You will go sailing all the way out into the open sea (almost till the tip of South Mumbai). You will not be seen from the shore.
