Five Star Dining on Yacht Vacations

Exceptional cuisine and fabulous dining experiences await.

Contributed by: Jo Morgan

A superyacht vacation is a gourmet experience like no other. With your own highly-trained private chef preparing dazzling menus catered exactly to your tastes, every meal on a luxury yacht charter is a superb dining experience.

In fact, the sensational food on a private yacht is often the much-talked about highlight of any yachting holiday.

What makes the dining experience on a yacht so special?

Well, that’s hard to narrow down. Each morning just after dawn, your yacht chef goes ashore in the tender to visit the local markets, arriving back at the yacht laden down with wheels of fresh cheese, the best organic produce available and gleaming fish straight from the fisherman’s nets.

They’ll get to work slicing fruit for large platters and whipping up pancake batters and scrambled eggs ready for your breakfast orders. By the time you get up, the whole yacht will smell of freshly baking bread and your breakfast table will overflow with a buffet spread right out of a gourmet magazine.

Oh, and the view’s not bad either- the sun glimmering off the sea, a turquoise lagoon or tropical beach just waiting for you. This floating ‘restaurant’ can move for every meal, from one spectacular view to the next.

With breakfast cleared away, your chef will arrive at the table to discuss some possible menus for the coming day- based on using the best local produce found at the market and some of your personal favourites. Perhaps you’d even like to try your hand at catching dinner?

But how will they know what I like?

After you book your luxury yacht charter, the yacht will send you a very important document: the all-important preference sheet. This form allows you to let the chef know what your favourite foods are- as well as dislikes and the way you prefer to eat.

After all, what’s the point in having a chef spending all their effort and skill creating refined, seafood plates suited to a fancy Michelin-star restaurant, when your family actually prefers an unpretentious buffet-style extravaganza with lots of variety?

Never be shy to tell your yacht chef what you want – whether it’s a Thai feast, a fancy French affair or a laid-back barbeque on the beach. They’re there to make you happy, and the more you tell them, the happier everyone will be.

What if some of us have allergies or dietary restrictions?

I’m not sure if there’s a better environment for someone with allergies than a private yacht. Your yacht chef will be highly accustomed to different dietary requirements- whether it be gluten-free, kosher, lactose intolerant, paleo, high-fat…or a madcap combination of all of them! If you say ‘special diet’, chances are, the chef has catered to it before- and you’ll be treated to some very special cooking.

In addition, because a yacht chef is only cooking for your group, there is no risk of cross-contamination as there is with restaurants or resorts catering for large groups.

What if my friends all like different foods?

Again, this is where the preference sheet really comes into its own.  Make sure all your yacht guests get one to fill out so that the chef can plan how to accommodate you all. Sophisticated, varied buffets are often the best way to impress a wide range of tastes.

How will the kids be catered for?

Yacht chefs are very accustomed to cooking for kids (and fussy ones, too). If you’re wanting to eat later or separately from your kids, that’s no problem at all – it’s quite a common practice on yachts to have separate dinner mealtimes for kids and adults so that the kids can get to bed early and the adults can enjoy evenings on deck with a long elegant meal.

I don’t want to fill out the preference sheet; I want the chef to surprise us.

You’re not the first, and the chef always loves having people to impress with their own innovative cooking. If you don’t want to fill out the preference sheet, that’s fine – and you certainly won’t be the first! However, the yacht will only have a certain amount of produce and dry goods on board, so if you like particular brands or things, it’s best to use the preference sheet. The chef will be able to shop locally, but the range is often minimal (and more expensive) on tropical islands.

As mentioned, you’ll get a chance to chat with the chef every day, so that if you have a sudden craving or preferred one style of meal to the next, you can easily let them know- or just tell the friendly stewardess and they’ll pass the message on.

How many meals can we expect each day on a typical yacht charter?

This is up to your discretion to some extent, but one thing is sure- you’re not going to go hungry.

On a yacht there is normally a cooked and buffet breakfast, followed by lunch with dessert, then afternoon tea and/or sunset canapés, followed by dinner and yet another dessert. There are also fruit and snack bowls scattered around the yacht, and if you fancy a midnight feast or a light snack, all you have to do is ask (although I’m not sure where you’ll fit it in!)

Can we invite friends onto the yacht for a dinner party?

Yes, invite away!  Yachts are there to be enjoyed – just give the chef as much notice as you can about guest numbers so that they can ensure that they can wow your guests. Also, be aware that the boat is not allowed to have more than 12 passengers onboard if it leaving the port, and that dining tables on yachts rarely accommodate more than 12 guests.

If you’re looking to have a party, then cocktails and canapés may be a better idea – if it’s a large party the chef may need to get the assistance of a local catering firm. Just speak to your chef and captain beforehand and ask them what can be done – they’re highly experienced in yacht entertaining.

Will we eat every meal onboard?

You definitely can if you like, although it’s quite rare that guests don’t go ashore for at least one or two restaurant meals over the course of the charter. While it can be difficult to drag yourself away from the excellent meals on board, your yacht will almost certainly be dropping anchor off some of the world’s premier gourmet destinations.

Whether eating a delicious dinner on deck under the stars, a luxury barbeque on the beach, or visiting a world-renowned restaurant on a cliff-top, a luxury yacht charter is one of the great food experiences of a lifetime.

Superyacht Dining that Rivals Michelin Starred Restaurants

luxury yacht restaurants

The dining on board your yacht charter is often an unexpected highlight for you and your guests. Whether the occassion calls for gourmet canapes to suit a high-class event, or a festive spread prepared for a special occassion, our onboard chef's offer 5-star catering and bespoke menus, suited perfectly for each guests needs.

WHAT MAKES A MICHELIN RESTAURANT?

There are three things that every Michelin starred restaurant has in common: inviting décor, incredible service, and the highest quality of food. Each of these is easily replicated on board your yacht charter. Your crew will set the scene perfectly, no matter what the occasion, from a fine dining dinner table to an alfresco breakfast on deck – their décor is impeccable. When it comes to service, at Ahoy Club we believe in seven-star experiences. As for quality, every good chef knows that the quality of ingredients is just as important as the quality of the preparation. Sourcing the best food and where possible using local, fresh ingredients is how our chefs make sure your every meal is perfection on a plate.

WHAT’S UNIQUE TO YOUR SUPERYACHT?

There are two ways that your superyacht will eclipse even the most impressive of Michelin starred dining experiences. First, it’s always a private dining experience. Imagine you’ve booked a private table at the most exclusive restaurant in the world for every meal. Second, the variety. A restaurant will specialise in a selection of cuisines, but a private chef will be open to more variety. While your onboard chef will have specialties that they serve with passion, they’ll be happy to meet your preferences for every meal. You can mix up the menu each day trialling new cuisines or following the local flavours of your charter route.

6 TIPS TO MAXIMISE YOUR DINING EXPERIENCE

Making the most of your luxury dining experience is all about balance, balancing your requests with your chef’s skills and ensuring a smooth experience for all on board. Here are 6 tips to help you maximise your dining while on board:

1. CONSIDER YOUR CHEF’S SPECIALTIES

Superyacht chefs are more often than not culinary geniuses but, just like any industry expert, they have specialties. Working with your chef’s specialty cuisines and dishes will help you get the most out of their cooking ability.

2. FILL OUT YOUR PREFERENCE SHEET

Your preference sheet will be your chef’s guide for the menu. This is your chance to tell them all your likes, dislikes and anything you’d be excited to try. Every request is important, from your daily preferences to your least favourite flavours. If you love fluffy eggs in the morning or pastries with coffee; let them know. If you cannot stand coriander, make sure to add that, too. Your concierge team can help answer any questions you have about filling in your preference sheet.

3. COMMUNICATE DIETARY RESTRICTIONS

It’s best to communicate any dietary needs for your charter group early on. Your chef can prepare better if they know what to expect, rather than surprise details later on. We can cater to any and all dietaries such as gluten free, vegetarian/vegan, Kosher, Halal, and more.

4. GIVE ADVANCE NOTICE FOR AFTER-HOURS REQUESTS

While your crew are here to meet your needs day or night, they also require sleep. If you think there will be after-hours food requests, plan them early. For example, discuss some of your favourite snacks with your chef and they can have them prepared in advance and stored near your suite for easy 24-hour access.

luxury yacht restaurants

5. PRE-PLAN ANY PARTIES OR SPECIAL EVENTS

Most aspects of your yacht charter will be planned before you begin, including food allocations. This means if you surprise the chef with extra guests, they may struggle to meet your requests. If you plan on hosting a party or special event with a higher head count, let the chef know in advance so they can wow your guests with the same high-quality dining they’ve been serving up all trip.

6. ASK ABOUT SPECIALIST EQUIPMENT

Superyachts are equipped with all kinds of toys, from the water to the kitchen. Some of our luxury yachts feature specialty cooking equipment such as teppanyaki grills, BBQs, and even pizza ovens. Ask about any yacht inclusions after booking so that you can plan a special meal based on these luxury yacht features.

YOUR VERY OWN RESTAURANT ON THE WATER

Every aspect of your luxury yacht charter is designed to excite and inspire – from the activities to the food. Make the most of your time on board by indulging in everything your private chef has to offer. Browse our 3,500+ yachts for charter online or reach out to our team to learn more about the dining experience.

Dining while on a luxury yacht charter

Bountiful breakfasts on the aft deck, silver service suppers beneath the stars of Sicily, and long lazy seafood lunches from the very fish you caught that afternoon - the charter experience brings out the best of culinary cool. A major part of living well is dining in decadent style and nowhere can you do this better than when sailing on your superyacht charter. Not only does the yacht lifestyle gift you your own glorious personal chef, but the pleasure of calling from port to port introduces you to a heavenly world of global dining.

Pool side Candlelight Dinner and Romantic Sunset Dining table

How can I make the most of my luxury charter yacht dining experience

Whether dining in the casual surroundings of the upper deck or sitting down to formal dinner linen and glass set tables, eating onboard a luxury yacht charter is always an occasion. The crew are well versed in gliding discreetly around the table, ensuring champagne glasses are bubbling to the top and plates are plentiful with the chef’s latest pleasures.

The beauty of having space on your own yacht is that you can dine the way you want. Whether you love an epic sit-down dinner with pearls and lace or if you prefer an easy breezy al fresco lunch, you pick the mood that suits your schedule the best.

Even beyond dining on deck; foodie fun can follow you near and far on a superyacht. From gourmet restaurant style picnics on deserted sands to midnight snacks of homemade popcorn and ice-cream to accompany a movie on deck, cocktails and canapes for that special event – make every morsel count onboard. If you want to make your yacht charter vacation go off without a hitch when it comes to food, take a look at these tips for making the most of your onboard gourmet experience…

Think about formality

Silver service suppers or more casual meals? When it comes to making the most of your luxury charter yacht dining experience, you may want to consider how you want to dine. Charter yachts are ever willing to accommodate your own style, so be prepared to offer silver service every eve if you wish. Those wanting a more laid back experience can also enjoy barefoot bliss and there’s always the option to mix it up for both formal and informal occasions.

Utilize the space

Yachts have so much space that you never need to eat in the same place time and time again. You can choose to take an alfresco breakfast on the deck, take lunch overlooking the salty sea and signature ocean views, before choosing meals in the more formal spaces come the evening. You also don’t have to stay on the yacht to dine - picnics on deserted beaches are always a bonus.

Don’t be shy about snacks

The salt sea air is notorious for hitting those hunger pangs so don’t be shy about letting the crew know when you are in need of nourishment in between meals. Mezze plates, snack platters, crudites, casual snacks, and whatever you want can all be whipped up and brought to you at whim. Remember to let the cabin staff know if you are a late night food muncher so they can prepare some munchies to keep close in the smaller hours.

Plan parties in advance

Entertaining and supper with friends is all part of the luxury lifestyle. Your crew and captain will be more than happy to help you welcome guests onboard in style. However, if you are throwing soirees and dinner parties, you will need to plan these in advance so that the chef can prepare accordingly.

Why Superb cuisine and luxury superyacht vacations work perfectly together

Dining while onboard a luxury charter is always an occasion. The two elements of first-class cuisine and sailing go hand in hand. Having a bespoke menu, ever changing settings (from brunches on beach chairs to fine china and five star service), and seamless staff recreating the restaurant experience every night - only in completely private surroundings. Here are the beautiful benefits of dining on your luxury superyacht.

You get your own five star chef

Better than many Michelin starred restaurants, having your own private chef onboard a superyacht charter is one of life’s greatest pleasures. Even before stepping foot on your ship, the chef will be well aware of your culinary palate. Don’t be shy in informing the crew and chef as to your favorite dishes as yachts can even come equipped with gas fired pizza ovens, teppanaki grills, and gleaming kitchens to rival the worlds best restaurants. Whether you adore Cuban coffee or vintage French cheese and foie gras, the chef can work your whimsical passions and preferences into a menu tailored specifically to suit your party. Superyacht chefs are often handpicked for their expertise and innovation in the kitchen, so let them work their magic and enjoy the fruits of their lavish labor.

You can visit gourmet ports of call

Sailing from port to port gives culinary connoisseurs the chance to expand their repertoire and try out local delicasies. The shores of Europe are laced in places that take the art of delicious food very seriously. From authentic bouillabaisse on the shores of Marseille to homemade pasta and salt baked fish along the drama of the Amalfi Coast, limoncello in Sicily and sweet Sardinian wine – find out why the European coastline is such a fabulous foodie haven. Even beyond the stirring Mediterranean Sea; taste thick steaming clam chowder in New England, zesty Key Lime Pie in the pastel hues of Florida, and the famed conch salad that comes all the way from the blue Bahamas. From local cuisine cooking classes to clinching a reservation at one of the world's best restaurants; yacht charters entice you to taste the world.

You can entertain in epic style

A stunning space, a private chef, and a dedicated crew – these are the finest ingredients for epic entertaining onboard. Whether you want to throw a starlit soiree with chilled champagne and canapes, or if you desire a sit-down dinner with your favorite entourage; when you have access to an amazing yacht, these get-togethers can go off without a hitch. Themed evenings, masque balls, pirate nights, wonderful wine tastings, elegant afternoon teas, and whatever divine delights you can imagine; the chef and crew will be only too happy to help you piece together the perfect get together that is sure to go down in history.

Choosing a yacht based upon the chef and supporting crew

Connoisseurs of culinary greatness can even consider which yacht they choose based upon the chef and supporting crew. When dealing with your yacht broker or conducting a search you can ask to see crew profiles and even sample menus to ascertain if the chef is a good match for your own personal tastes. Yacht chefs undergo the same training as professional chefs and will hold certain certifications and accreditations from top tier culinary schools.

Planning my menu while on my luxury yacht charter

Fill out the food preference sheets.

Before you step foot on your boat you will be asked by your charter broker to fill out a preference sheet to make everything run like clockwork. This is where you will inform the chef and crew of your personal preferences when it comes to divine dishes and drink. Be very clear on mentioning foods you love and foods you hate so that the chef can curate a menu that works for you and your charter party.

Explain dietary restrictions

If you have any allergies, sensitivities, or particular dietary requirements you should also be very clear about sharing this information. Superyachts usually come with highly trained and experienced chefs who are well-versed in the world of catering for special diets - whether you prefer vegan diets, vegetarian, gluten-free, diabetic, halal, or anything that calls for special attention.

Consider drink pairings

The culinary charm of a charter vacation doesn’t stop at the edge of your plate but also extends to drinks too. One of the many joys of the preference sheet is the fact that you can share your favorite specific wines, liquors, cocktails, beers, and non alcoholic beverages to suit the finest local produce. Whether it's a special bottle that you love or a preference for vintage champagne ice cold in a bucket before breakfast, every pleasure is catered for.

Dining on a Superyacht FAQ

Is food included in the yacht charter.

If your charter yacht is booked as an all-inclusive experience the food will be included in your set rate. However, many superyacht bookings are customized to meet the high expectations of their clients meaning that expenses like food and drink will be itemized and charged through the advance provisioning allowance.

What food is served on a superyacht?

Chartering a luxury yacht means that all dishes are matched to your personal preferences. By filling out the preference form, you can request certain meals or ingredients to ensure that the chef delivers your dream dining experience every day.

How do you serve on a yacht?

You can choose your meal times and whether you prefer a formal dining table or an informal dining experience.

Can I eat at restaurants during my charter?

Of course, one of the many pleasures of a superyacht experience is exploring the ports of call and this means sampling local cuisine and having meals at hidden gem restaurants.

Can the chef cater for food allergies or special diets?

Absolutely. All chefs will cater for food allergies and diets for your charter party. Simply speak to your broker and be sure to mention it when filling out the preference and information forms. A chef can also provide sample menus and multi course meal plans for you to review should you wish to take that route.

Is alcohol included with my yacht charter fee?

If you have an all inclusive charter then alcohol may be included but most luxury boats and high-end charters will charge expenses separately to the charter fee. The fee will cover the basics like the boat and the crew but won’t take food and drink and other expenses into account.

Can I arrange a catered party while on my charter?

Yes, entertaining is part of the fun of chartering a superyacht. If you are arranging parties, social soirees, or if you have extra guests joining for meals, advanced notice is required to ensure that the chef and professional crew are well equipped to deliver outstanding dishes and service.

From daring cuisine to sommelier style, dramatic table designs, and dreamy dinner parties; throw yourself into the savoir-faire that makes chartering a yacht so special.

For Dreamy Vacations and Plant-Based Fine Dining, All Aboard Windstar’s Luxury Yacht Cruises

Is it time you take a new type of cruise if you love cruises but not crowds—and top-quality food but not buffet lines—you might want to consider a smaller cruise company like windstar cruises. .

by Charlotte Pointing

September 16, 2024

Imagine just for one moment that you’re not busy with work, school, or household chores. You’re not stressed. You’re not tired. In fact, the only thing you have to worry about is when you have to leave the white sands of Bora Bora or Tahiti to head back to your yacht for a delicious plant-based meal crafted by some of the world’s best chefs. It may feel like a faraway dream, but it’s very much a possibility.

In February 2025, Windstar Cruises is launching Dreams of Tahiti, its inaugural plant-based cruise to French Polynesia. The voyage will take place on Star Breeze, a newly renovated all-suite motor yacht with room for 312 guests, meaning it’s small enough to fit into the tiny island ports of Polynesian destinations like Raiatea and Motu Mahaea, but big enough for a spa, pool, and some seriously impressive dining venues—all of which serve delicious, totally plant-based food crafted by globally renowned chefs (fun fact: Windstar is the official cruise line of the James Beard Foundation).

If you want to get a spot, you’ll have to move fast, because the voyage is almost sold out. According to Jessica Chiang, Windstar’s director of marketing, the all-vegan sailing trip was launched in response to rising demand from passengers.

It’s true that plant-based diets are growing in popularity in the US. One study published earlier this year in the journal Nutrients noted that from 2012 to 2022, the percentage of Americans following a plant-forward diet more than doubled from 12 percent to 26 percent. Documentaries that demonstrate the health benefits of a plant-based lifestyle—such as  Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones and You Are What You Eat: A Twin Experiment— have also been popular with Netflix viewers in recent years.

This demand has spilled over into the cruising industry, which is more popular than ever ( research suggests that by the end of this year, 36 million passengers will have taken to the high seas on a cruise ship). In 2023, Carnival Cruises announced it launched a brand-new vegan menu on all of its ships. And in the same year, Princess Cruises and Virgin Atlantic launched new plant-based options aboard their cruise liners as well.

But if you’ve been curious about trying plant-based food on vacation, there is arguably no better opportunity than Windstar’s intimate Dreams of Tahiti voyage.

Windstar: a more intimate, more refined cruising experience

The average cruise ship can hold around 3,000 passengers at any one time. That means that if you’re heading off on a cruise during the height of the season, you’ll be tussling for a good seat on deck, lining up to get off the ship to see all of the wonders at your port destination, and battling for the last few vegan options at the buffet.

The world’s biggest ships are basically floating resorts, which is great for some, but not so appealing to those looking for a more refined and tranquil vacation experience with plenty of space and opportunity to try new experiences, including food.

“Because we only serve up to 350 guests, we can source the produce locally with the freshest ingredients from trusted purveyors we work with frequently. We try to localize as much as possible.” —Jessica Chiang

This means that your meals will be packed with flavor, of course, but also that they’re better for the planet—sourcing food locally from port stops along the journey reduces any extra emissions from shipping it in from external food service providers.

Research shows that intimate vessels like those from Windstar Cruises have a significantly smaller environmental impact than larger cruise ships. According to Marine Insight , a 3,000-capacity cruise ship can generate around 150,000 gallons of sewage and graywater—that’s enough to fill 10 swimming pools. Carnival, which operates several cruise brands with large ships including Carnival Cruise Line and Princess Cruises, generates around 1.3 pounds of food waste per person per day on average. Windstar, on the other hand, operates with around 10 percent of the passengers of large vessels.

Inside Windstar Cruises’ dreamy plant-based menu

Even if you miss out on the dreamy plant-based voyage to Tahiti, there are plenty of other vegan-friendly voyages with Windstar to choose from. In fact, the cruise line is renowned for the vegan-friendly dining experiences on all of its yachts, from the Wind Surf yacht, which is fitted with 171 staterooms, to its smallest yachts, like the Wind Spirit, which has just 74 staterooms on board.

Aside from smaller crowds, the size of the yachts is important: it means that Windstar can take you to places that other, larger cruise ships can’t (some of its most popular voyages include Tahiti and the Tuamotu Islands, Iceland’s fjords, and Niue in the South Pacific), but also that the crew can always offer an intimate, personal experience. They’ll get to know you and your dietary requirements, Chiang promises, and strive to make sure you have the very best plant-based options at every meal.

A few examples of some of the vegan options you can expect to be treated to include citrus pumpkin risotto, vegetable enchiladas, and eggplant cannelloni, and on Star Class ships like Star Pride and Star Breeze, there is also plant-based Korean bulgogi.

For breakfast, you can choose from options like fresh fruit smoothies, oatmeal, and muffins, all of which you can order straight to your room for maximum comfort (date pancakes are also available on special request). If you’re craving something sweet, expect to come across options like mango lime tart, chia seed truffles served with coconut sauce, and tahini brownies with fresh strawberries for dessert.

If you’re traveling with a group, it’s important to note that vegan options aren’t just for those who eat a plant-based diet. Chiang notes that many guests who are simply trying to eat healthier options have tried them and been suitably impressed.

“So far the feedback on our plant-based options has been positive. There are quite a few guests who are interested in trying to eat healthier, but often have a misconception that healthy foods are not flavorful or tasty,” she explained. “Our guest feedback is very important to us, as it helps us improve and innovate our menus.”

Fine Cuisine on a Luxury Yacht – Your Private Gourmet Restaurant!

Fine Cuisine on a luxury yacht

One of the most exciting things about chartering a luxury yacht is that you get to travel with a seasoned chef, who’ll expertly prepare and serve all meals based on your preferences. Whether you like to indulge in casual snacks, are into sundeck barbeques or would want to try some formal dining al fresco, the chef will ensure you enjoy the most exclusive of gastronomic delights. If you are particularly looking for fine cuisine on a luxury yacht, there are many options you can choose from

Table of Contents

What Type Of Cuisines to Expect Aboard Your Luxury Yacht?

There is a whole range of gourmets that you can look forward to enjoying on board. But each of the cuisines will be customized to your tastes, every day of your itinerary. Here are some of the best-rated cuisines that you can expect on a typical luxury yacht:

French Riviera Inspired Foods

Cuisines from the French Riviera are as hearty as they are delectable. And to get a feel of how amazing such culturally-rich foods are, you might need to request your master chef to prepare some for you. And here are a few foods you can expect from a French Riviera cuisines menu:

  • Appetizers + Dom Perignon Veuve Clicquot, Laurent-Perrier and more
  • Lamb Loin with Fennel Genoise
  • Lobster Thermidor
  • Risotto Lobster with Parmesan Egg Pancake, Confit Tomatoes and Coral Tille

Gourmet on a luxury yacht

Caribbean Gourmets

There are a good number of luxury yachts that are well-known for their exclusive Caribbean and Central American cuisines. Here is a quick sample of the foods you can expect on a crewed yacht or catamaran charter in the charming Caribbean region:

  • Avocado and Pineapple Salad + Patio Daddy-O Planter’s Punch
  • Caribbean-Grilled Garlic butter prawns with spicy prawn heads
  • Jerk Shrimp with Grilled Onion, Avocado, and Mango Salsa
  • Grilled Glazed Pineapple with Coconut Sorbet

Italian Gourmets

The only way to understanding the heart of a place is by trying its food. If you’re taking your cruising vacation to Italy on a crewed charter, then there are lots of toothsome Italian cuisines that your able chef can prepare for you. Whether it’s for breakfast, lunch or supper/dinner, enjoying a serving of Italian specialties is as tempting as it is heavenly.

Here is what you can expect from a typical Italian gourmets menu:

  • Panzanella salad
  • Roasted tofu with tamari aubergine flower and tomato emulsion
  • Stuffed Paccheri with veloute sauce
  • Buckwheat with milk and cheese

Italin cuisine on a luxury yacht

Kosher Cuisine On Board a Luxury Yacht

Kosher is a type of cuisine that features certain specific foods that strictly conform to traditional Jewish dietary regulations. The foods, in this case, are grouped into 3 main categories namely: meat, dairy and Pareve (any other food other than meat or dairy). As the Kosher tradition dictates, meats should not be served or eaten at the same meal as dairy products. So if you’re a strict adherent to the kosher diet, the professional chef aboard the yacht will ensure he/she prepares your set of meals accordingly.

Choose a Yacht with a Chef That Suits Your Preferences. Each chef is trained or specializes in preparing certain kinds of foods. So you should consider that when booking your yacht charter. Feel free to ask for a sample of the menu from the broker to see whether the foods listed therein match your preferences and/or dietary needs.

Complete a Preference Sheet

A preference sheet can make or break your charter experience. Aside from other aspects of the charter, highlighting your personal preferences on food will allow the chef to stock the right foodstuffs he/she will use in cooking and preparing meals for the better part of the tour itinerary. So don’t ignore it.

Let Your Chef Know About Your Preferences

When highlighting your preferred meals on the preference sheet, it is the perfect time to come clean about your food likes and dislikes. Being honest with what you normally eat or would love to try out on the charter will allow the chef to create a menu that will make your gastronomic experience on board fulfilling.

Specify Any Food Restrictions

The preference sheet given to you by the chartering company gives you an opportunity to make clear your dietary restrictions, food allergies and highlight any other factors that can affect meal planning. Charter chefs are always very friendly and understanding, so don’t feel shy to talk to them. Whether your diet is strictly vegan or kosher or prefers gluten-free regimens, the chef can take that to account and make the exact meal options you desire.

Decide When You Would Like To Enjoy Your Meals

On a typical yacht charter dining timetable, meals would normally be served in the morning, afternoon and in the evening. The meal, in this case, can be single serving or multi-course. However, since being at sea might make you a little hungrier most of the time, you can always request to have casual snacks in between meals just to satisfy your cravings.

Be Sure To Specify Your Favorite Alcohol

Delectable cuisines on charter will need a good wine pairing wine to make the dining experience extraordinary. And most charter companies always have a wonderful selection of wines for you to choose from. If you have any specific preferences like Italian red wine, champagne or special selections by label or age, you can let the crew know beforehand and include them in the provisioning.

Let Your Chef Know About Special Occasions

Are you marking a birthday or anniversary or planning an engagement? Such important milestones definitely call for a celebration. So by letting the chef know what special occasions you would want to celebrate, he/she can help set up a party with the right foods, snacks, and drinks. With the massive experience such chefs have in organizing parties, you can be sure your occasion will be unforgettable.

That’s all you can expect on a typical luxury yacht charter in terms of gastronomic experience. Just remember you have the opportunity to make your food and drink preferences known by filling out a preference sheet from the charter company. Aside from that, talking to the chef on a one-on-one basis can help generate a menu that will get you to enjoy all your favorite meals, every single day of your itinerary. The sailing experience just never gets better with delectable dishes and refined wine selections on board.

Hi Daniella,

I love having a dedicated chef onboard with these kinds of yachts. Is it common you have to pay extra fees in order to eat and drink on a luxury yacht? And like when you want some snacks in between the meals as you stated can be done by request, this is not all included with the price you pay for the cruise it self?

Food, snacks, and drinks on a luxury yacht are included in the price!

Thank you for passing by and for the comment!

Please, let me know if you need more info, I’ll be more than happy to assist.

I wish you a lovely day.

I was initially going to ask about whether or not we could request a certain dish but maybe not all the food on the dish, as many of these options looked good, for instance, the jerk shrimp with onions, avocado, and salsa, but I’m picky when it comes to onions. I saw later on that we can list foods that don’t suit our preferences. But, there are also foods on here I like from different ethnicities, so is it possible that the same yacht serves the same ethnic dishes, for instance, French and Caribbean food on the same yacht?

You can request any dish you want, but in general, the charterer would prefer to choose to eat local food. It makes you feel like a real Caribbean citizen:)

I hope it helped!

Please, don’t hesitate to contact me with any question. I’ll be more than happy to assist!

Thank you for the comment, and I hope you enjoy the rest of your day!

Oh My God, I fell in love with your post, the pictures of the food and the Yachts. You weren’t just talking about fine cuisine and a yacht, you are talking about a complete lifestyle and you definitely got my attention. Summer is coming and I was thinking of organizing something different for the family, you might have just given me the best idea ever, Thank you

Hi Barbara,

I am glad this post has inspired you:)

Hope to see you soon on board!

Don’t hesitate to contact me with any question; I am always happy to help.

Thank you for the comment, and I hope you enjoy the rest of your day.

Thank you Daniella for this important topic I did not fully understand how it worked. I have always liked sailing on a luxury ship. It started when I was a teenager and my parents would take me with them on cruise ships out of New York City to Bermuda and islands in the Bahamas.

In my mid 30s I got to experience my first (and only one so far) luxury yacht charter with my cousins who live in the Tuscany area of Italy. It was a family reunion vacation from my mom’s side of the family. We visited many of the coastal ports on the Mediterranean side of Italy and the food was gourmet Italian cuisine.

I never gave it any thought as to how and why we had that delicious food. But thanks to this post I now know what I will do when I plan my next yacht charter. I am planning to have another family reunion of sorts in a few years from my dad’s side of the family down near Barbados in the Caribbean. I would like the food to be regional.

However, is it possible that in addition to the cuisine being from a broad area of the Caribbean, that I could request having food that is native to Barbados like Flying Fish & Cou-Cou, Cutters, Fish Cakes, and Pudding & Souse? Oh and one more question. Do luxury yacht charter companies offer to book flight arrangements or do I have to do that?

You can request any food you want on board a luxury yacht. The chef will prepare the most exquisite dishes for you and your family:)

Not all charter companies offer flight arrangements, but Royalty Yachts does. You can take a look at the review so you can have an idea.

I hope it helped. Please, let me know if you need more info.

I’ll be more than happy to assist.

Thank you for the comment and wish you a nice day!

Oh I am a foodie, so chartering a boat with a chef would be wonderful. Only thing I would be worried about is gaining weight LOL. I know, that is something that normally happens when you are on vacation. I want to enjoy myself, have a good time and enjoy the food. Can they prepare more weight conscious meal plans as well? Can you ask for certain types of meals? I want to have a good time, but not have to worry about my waistline! LOL

Hi Matt, Me too, when I am on vacation, the only thing I think of is food:) I am glad I am not the only one! Planning the meals with the chef is a must if you want to have the best experience ever! Don’t be afraid to mention what you want for dinner:) Let me know if you more info, I’ll be glad to help! Thank you for the comment, and I wish you a great day!

The French Riviera has always been a popular playground for the rich and famous, and so it comes as no surprise that a plethora of Michelin quality restaurants is to be found in the world’s most popular luxury yacht charter grounds. These award-winning restaurants are an excellent addition to a honeymoon charter, birthday or to make a simple family holiday even more memorable.

A perfect luxury vacation is not only defined by a beautiful yacht but also by great service, friendly crew and an amazing dining experience

Mirazur – Menton***

As you cruise along the Cote d’Azur past the sensational parties of Cannes and the glittering lights of Monaco , Menton is the last stop before entering the Italian Riviera . This often overlooked destination has everything to complement the fast-paced lifestyle of Monaco: High-end shopping, a top-quality selection of museums, a 17th Century basilica and a fort all right beside the main marina.

Mirazur has an impressive three Michelin stars to its name and Argentinian chef Mauro Colagreco takes his produce fresh from the restaurant’s gardens. Even if you are only mooring in Menton for an evening, dining here will be a memorable addition to your Mediterranean luxury yacht charter as you take in the French Riviera beneath starry night skies.

Cheval Blanc – St. Tropez***

This three Michelin star establishment has a collection of curated menus designed with complementary flavours to suit all tastes, from the timeless classics to contemporary fusions made from ingredients pulled fresh from the ground or the sea.

The a la carte menu and desserts will be just as tempting – and well deserved after all the hours of watersports along the Cote d’Azur.

Mareyeur – Port Grimaud

Seafood is a speciality at Mareyeur along the Port Grimaud seafront near the star-studded Saint-Tropez. The chic contemporary restaurant beside the water has received rave reviews for its consistently high standards, and its location amongst the fine sand beaches in the Gulf of St. Tropez makes it great for sunbathers and young families looking for a sheltered place to swim.

Pampelonne Beach is just a short cruise away if you wish to join the stars at Nikki Beach after sundown, however you will have a hard time moving away from the delectable menu, which has items such as ‘ Tuna tataki, sesame, sake and yuzu infused soya sauce, julienne of vegetables ‘ that will satisfy and still suit most budgets.

Bruno Oger – Cannes

Deep in the heart of Cannes is the two Michelin star restaurant Bruno Oger, a contemporary setting boasting Provençal cuisine that provides eight starters and eight seasonal dishes. Chef to the Cannes Film Festival , Bruno Oger has produced the dinners for events celebrating the 50th, 60th, 65th, 66th, 70th anniversaries.

Le Figuier de Saint-Esprit – Antibes

Michelin-star restaurant Le Figuier de Saint-Esprit is within walking distance of the marina in Antibes , the Picasso Museum, cathedral and a variety of bars and clubs for continuing a celebration long into the early hours.

The atmospheric restaurant has carefully preserved the original building features and the outside terrace is ambient day or night with winding vines creating a canopy overhead.

Savour each mouthful of lamb from the Alpilles, cooked in Vallauris clay , accompanied by gnocchi with Tuber Melanosporum truffles . Charter guests with a sweet tooth will delight at desserts like the Sierra Leone organic chocolate, and there is a wide selection of wine to accompany each choice.

Le Petit Nice – Passedat – Marseille

At the opposite end of the French Riviera, luxury yacht charter groups will find Marseille encompassed in stunning natural scenery such as the Calanques National Park, where high white cliffs create secluded anchorages ending in pale sand beaches. Le Petit Nice – Passedat in Marseille is the name of the restaurant attached to the Relais & Châteaux hotel, which is close to the beautiful Villa Valmer as well as the breathtaking Basilique Notre-Dame de la Garde.

Le Petit Nice - Passedat - Marseille

Dine on fresh seafood accompanied by top-quality local wine from Château Guilhem Tournier, part of the Passedat brand. If you find a favourite amongst the selection takes it with you on your charter to savour by candlelight with a loved one on a deserted stretch of sandy coast.

Arpège – Paris

Many visitors who live far from the Mediterranean choose to begin or end their holiday in Paris, taking in the French capital’s sights before catching a flight from the international airport to the next destination. Galleries, museums, and endless shopping and dining opportunities can be found along the winding streets, one of the most prestigious being Arpège, a three Michelin-starred restaurant that has been the training grounds for many of France’s most distinguished chefs.

Dining on a Luxury Yacht!

For The Food-Lover.

From formal dining to an alfresco afternoon lunch, there’s no end to the culinary options available on board a luxury yacht charter. Each delicious dish is prepared by a world-class chef, supported by an experienced crew trained in five-star hospitality service. Food lovers and fussy eaters alike will be treated to a gastronomic experience like no other. In this article, we explore the most common culinary options available to those enjoying a charter vacation. Whether a lavish five course meal, post-dinner drinks or snacks and barbecues, you’ll enjoy a dining experience as individual as you are.

A dining experience to suit your tastes.

Even before you climb aboard, you and your guests will specify your individual requirements on an information sheet, returned to your crew before you travel. This ensures the crew can be fully aware of any special dietary needs, allergies, and preferences, as well as any medical conditions or even diets to take into consideration. In addition, you can tell the crew how you like to dine, and even specify preferred meal times that suit the plans of you and your guests. This allows your crew to cater the whole dining experience to suit you, leaving you free to kick back and relax.

Remember to list all your requirements on this form, as your chef won’t have access to further supplies of ingredients once you’ve set sail. It’s also advisable to add in if you’ll be celebrating a special occasion, as many crews enjoy catering for a party – even making birthday cakes especially.

Chefs on board luxury yacht charters have vast experience in creating international cuisine, bringing regional influences into their cooking sure to go down a treat with guests. Whether enjoying long held family favorites, or sampling the delights of the Middle East, Caribbean, or the Mediterranean, your taste buds are in for an eclectic fusion of flavor during your time on vacation.

Fresh from the grill…

On a sunny evening, what better way to round off a busy day of adventure than to kick back and enjoy a sizzling barbecue? Many yachts offer an expansive barbecue grill, and your crew will be delighted to serve up burgers, hot dogs, jackets and more, as you and your guests relax and discuss the day’s adventure.

The smell of delicious burgers, hot dogs and jackets being prepared for you and your guests, as you enjoy a refreshing drink and discuss the days’ adventure.

Formal dining…

Whether looking to celebrate or simply enjoy an evening meal with guests, formal dining on board a luxury yacht charter is unrivalled. No restaurant in the world can offer such a unique, breath-taking setting, in which to taste the delights served up by your chef and crew.

Refreshing drinks on tap…

Most yachts come complete with a fully stocked bar, so you’ll be able to keep guests hydrated or enjoy a refreshing tipple as you sail in style.

Enjoy a Gourmet Yacht Charter with a Michelin-Level Chef

Many yachts have chefs with Michelin-starred backgrounds who can craft a fully bespoke menu for guests.

luxury yacht restaurants

It goes without saying that a yacht charter is one of the most luxurious experiences in the world. For gourmands, yachts known for gastronomic excellence are sure to delight, and for wine connoisseurs, select yachts will often have their own private cellars. Many yachts will have a chef with backgrounds in Michelin-starred establishments, and every charter yacht will craft a fully bespoke menu for guests.

The 239-ft Titania is one yacht charter choice that will impress thanks to her experienced private chef and multiple on-board dining spaces, including six dining tables, to choose from. Expect food and beverages at their absolute finest from Titania ’s head chef Nick Clark, who has worked in many of Europe’s leading restaurants and has a love for international cuisine. For wellness fans, chef Clark has a particular focus on nutrition and using organic produce whenever possible. His tantalizing menus showcase all the best flavors and cooking styles of the yacht’s changing cruising grounds.

For a setting to match the exquisite fare being served, the crew of Titania takes pleasure in turning their hands to a table decor scheme or theme to suit any occasion, whether a 10-course tasting meal or a birthday celebration. Her guests can enjoy sweeping views across the ocean from the full dining table on the main aft deck while, inside, a formal circular table is the ideal setting for a silver service dinner. The swim-up bar in Titania ’s 15-ft pool is a popular stop off for an icy fruit cocktail.

13 tips to make the most out of your luxury charter fine dining experience

One of the highlights of chartering a luxury superyacht is the fine dining experience.  When it comes to cuisine no resort in the world that can match the personalized menu, the superb service and the delightful ambiance of a charter yacht.

A mega-yacht is your opportunity to have your own gourmet restaurant with a five-star chef at your beck and call. You will be living the grown-up version of a child in a candy store.

Here is some advice to make sure you get the most out of the cuisine during your trip.

Choose superyacht with a chef that matches your preferences

Every chef has specialties, and these should be considered as you choose your yacht . Your charter broker can often provide you with sample menus.

Be honest and clear when filling out your food preference sheets

Your chef will rely on your preference sheets to create the menus for your superyacht charter. Be absolutely clear about your likes and your dislikes, about what you normally eat and what you are prepared to sample.

Be upfront about any dietary restrictions

The preference sheet is also where you should be clear about any dietary restrictions, food allergies, or other factors that affect the meal planning. There’s no need to be shy, charter chefs have seen (and handled) everything from the common no-seafood or vegan diets to complicated sodium or gluten-free regimes. Diabetes? No problem! Kosher? Easy! As long as they are aware of your requirements, you can rest assured that you will serve superb cuisine.

Make sure any specific alcohol requests are known beforehand

Fine cuisine and fine wines go together like yachts and water, so it should be no surprise that a selection of extraordinary wines will be available for your tasting pleasure. If you have specific preferences, such as Italian reds only with dinner or an icy flute of champagne before breakfast, be sure to mention it beforehand. You can, in many cases, select the specific wines by label and vintage so they will be waiting for you on board.

Decide on how formal you would like your meals to be

How you want to dine is something else to consider. Every charter yacht is fully prepared to provide you with formal dining every night, and this would include fine china and silver, linen and a multi-course meal with wine paring. Depending on where you are chartering, you may want to break this up with more casual meals.

Eat meals in alternative locations

Breakfast and lunch are pleasant as alfresco meals, enjoyed more casually on the aft deck or under an umbrella on the upper deck. In some cases, depending on the design of the yacht, you can enjoy a “country-kitchen” meal at a dinette open to the galley, which allows you to interact with the chef and learn a few culinary tricks to take home.

Alert the crew if you are hungry

There is something about sea air, sunshine and yachts that creates an appetite, and your galley crew stands ready with a wide variety of snacks to satisfy that need. Just a mention to one of the crew that you’re a little hungry, and you’ll be presented with a collection of casual snacks

Give advanced notice if you want late night food

The chef does need to sleep so if you expect to have the munchies in the wee hours, let the crew know beforehand. Snacks can be prepared and stored near your suite for 24-hour needs.

Pre-plan any extra guests joining for meals

Your galley crew is prepared to cater to your every desire from a formal dinner to a more casual cocktail party with yummy hors d’oeuvres. There is one rule: this must be planned well beforehand with both the captain and the chef. There is no excuse for arriving back from shore with a handful of friends and expecting to be served.

Enjoy any specialist culinary equipment

The galleys on many charter yachts often include an unusual selection of equipment that can also bear on your choice of meals. A teppanyaki grill, for example, can serve up everything from stir-fry to Mongolian barbecue.  Your yacht is also likely to have a full-sized barbecue grill on deck for everything from steaks to hamburgers. A surprising number of yachts are now equipped with gas-fired pizza ovens, allowing guests to enjoy a freshly baked slice of pizza while enjoying a movie.

Go for a picnic

Your crew may take you to a secluded beach for a picnic ashore. This will be a major production, with tents for shade, beach chairs, a barbecue and picnic tables, and even games ranging from beach golf to volleyball.

Tell your chef about any special occasions

Don’t forget to mention any special events to your chef as well, because yacht charter crews absolutely love to put on a party. Birthdays, anniversaries, engagements, and business coups all warrant a celebration and where better than on a charter yacht?

Have a themed evening

Your chef and cabin staff can provide entertainment as well and it’s fun to include a “pirate night”, for example, when everyone dresses in costume and the crew decorates the dining table with gold doubloons and treasure chests. You can expect the menu to reflect the event as well, with everything from “castaway stew” to Blackbeard’s brûlée.
