Sail Area / Displacement Ratio

- SA : Sail area in square feet, derived by adding the mainsail area to 100% of the foretriangle area (the lateral area above the deck between the mast and the forestay).

Ballast / Displacement Ratio
A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.

Displacement / Length Ratio
A measure of the weight of the boat relative to it's length at the waterline. The higher a boat’s D/L ratio, the more easily it will carry a load and the more comfortable its motion will be. Review of Morris 51
Basic specs..
The hull is made of fibreglass. Generally, a hull made of fibreglass requires only a minimum of maintenance during the sailing season.
The boat is equipped with 662.0 liter fresh water capacity.
The boat equipped with a masthead rig. The advantage of a masthead rig is its simplicity and the fact that a given sail area - compared with a fractional rig - can be carried lower and thus with less heeling moment.
The Morris 51 is equipped with a fin keel. The fin keel is the most common keel and provides splendid manoeuvrability. The downside is that it has less directional stability than a long keel.
The keel is made of lead. Compared with iron, lead has the advantage of being 44% heavier, which allows a smaller keel and hence less water resistance and higher speed.
The boat can enter most marinas as the draft is just about 1.70 - 1.80 meter (5.58 - 5.88 ft) dependent on the load. See immersion rate below.

The Apogee 50 first won Cruising World’s coveted Boat Of The Year award in 1994. Following a successful production run of 9 vessels, the Apogee molds were purchased by Tom Morris of Morris Yachts who was looking to add a fast, bluewater cruiser with long legs to the Morris lineup. EXTERIOR SPACES
With a flush foredeck, wide side decks, and a clean, uncluttered rigging layout, the Apogee 51 has all the hallmarks of a true passage maker. Her hard dodger offers safe and dry seating while underway, and generous space in the aft cockpit allows for comfortable entertaining, cocktails, and dining.
HULL & DECK
Built by Maine craftsmen to the highest standard, the legendary Able construction lives up to its reputation. Chuck Paine’s design has proven fast and capable in a full range of conditions. The use of Baltek coring, Kevlar, and the omission of coring materials around thru-hulls offers a light, stiff hull that is sure to remain dry. Designed with passage making in mind, the deck is functional in layout and uncluttered.
The Apogee 50 features a powerful sail plan with a high aspect ratio that delivers a great turn of speed. Her inboard and outboard genoa leads allow for a myriad of options when choosing sheeting angles to optimize performance. A Leisure Furl boom ensures that shortening sail is drama free and eliminates the need to go forward. Rig up the a-sail for reaching angles and watch this thoroughbred stretch her legs.
INTERIOR SPACES
Renegade’s interior offers the perfect balance of comfort and functionality. Just through the companionway you will find the nav station to starboard and galley to port. Her generous salon and large table can accommodate 7 for dining. With a master cabin forward and VIP accommodation aft, the interior arrangement provides privacy for owners and guests.
The U-shaped galley is functional and spacious with a design that lends itself to comfort and security underway. A large refrigerator and freezer will ensure you can carry ample provisions for extended cruising. Cooking is a joy with ample storage outboard and aft, deep twin stainless steel sinks, and generous counter space.
The spacious master forward boasts a queen berth, settee, and ensuite washer dryer. Forward of the master is access to a large storage area through a watertight bulkhead door. The aft cabin features a large berth with generous storage. Both cabins are clad in cherry offering a warm, cozy ambiance.
Renegade’s current owners moved straight into a refit upon acquiring her. She was thoroughly refreshed with all systems being upgraded or replaced over the period from 2018-2019. Not stopping there, they have continually maintained her in Bristol fashion.
