After a monumental build effort in record time, the first ever superyacht marina on the Red Sea coast has been welcoming yachts in time for the inaugural Saudi Arabia Grand Prix , where lucky visitors will get the chance to preview the world-class Jeddah Yacht Club (JYC) before its grand opening in March 2022.
In a continued bid to promote economic growth in the area, the JYC marina and yacht club marks the first foray into major yachting developments that are set to take place in the kingdom over the next ten years.
Mohideen Nazer, Director of Parks and Resorts at SELA is delighted that the yachting world has its first home address on Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea, confirming that the project is “a major first step to turn the Red Sea Coast into a compelling destination for yachting aficionados to enjoy our amazing cruising grounds.”
The new marina, opened on the eve of the F1 event, will be able to accommodate over 100 yachts up to an impressive 120m (394ft) in length, and will provide a convenient stop-off point for yachts heading to the popular cruising grounds of the Indian Ocean and SouthEast Asia. Long and short-term berths are already available to book at port JYC Marina.
a major first step to turn the Red Sea Coast into a compelling destination for yachting aficionados to enjoy our amazing cruising grounds.
The Saudi Authorities have already confirmed recognition of the JYC marina as a port authority, which means all immigration and customs can be handled directly on site, including for foreign-flagged vessels chartering the region.
The marina will also be able to provide convenient repair and maintenance facilities once completed.
Shaping up to be a world-class facility, the JYC will be the perfect complement to the marina, offering visitors the ultimate platform for “diverse, world-class experiences across a spectrum of social, sport and leisure activities.”
The JYC will be home to a 5,000m² club house as well as an array of spectacular amenities, including a wellness centre, concierge services, Michelin Star-rated chef Jason Atherton restaurant and a Beach Club featuring an infinity pool with glorious views over the Red Sea.
Invite-only preview
During the inaugural Saudi Grand Prix, special guests will get the chance to preview and experience the club first hand, where hospitality and entertainment will be laid on for these future JYC members and VIPs to enjoy throughout the F1 weekend.

This Beverly Hills institution is known for chef-owner Helene An’s signature garlic noodles. But that’s not all there is to Crustacean . The menu at the Euro-Vietnamese fusion restaurant delivers enticing seafood dishes. Look forward to their signature garlic-roasted king crab, steamed truffle sea bream, or half-roasted Maine lobster served with An’s famous garlic noodles, which are positively addictive. Not only is the menu as impressive as it sounds, but the décor is equally alluring, with a koi-filled stream flowing through the dining room.

Emmy Squared Pizza

These game-changer pizzas – the clue is in the name – are cut as squares rather than triangles, but the moreish magic comes from their fluffy focaccia-like dough (aka frico crust) topped with caramelised crispy cheese. Pizza aside, the signature dishes here include the award-winning Le Matt Burger, sandwiches served on pretzel buns, and a selection of salads. This spot definitely has you covered for both screenings of the EURO 2024 matches and tasty food and drink to keep you satisfied as you watch.

Karamna at the Jeddah Yacht Club & Marina draws a nightly crowd. The menu zones in on Levantine-Gulf cuisine – think mixed grill platter, a selection of juicy and tender kebabs, chicken tawouk, beef tikkas, white kabsa, and premium lamb chops garnished with roasted raisins and nuts. What’s unique is that you can opt to dine in the main dining room of the restaurant or on the restaurant’s yacht docked in the marina. With superb views of the sea and sky, a meal at Karamna has a distinct holiday dining feel for both residents and visitors alike. Shisha is also offered here.

All the way from the Côte d’Azur, this chic French bistro adds a certain je ne sais qoui to the stunning dining scene at the yacht club. The menu is an ode to Mediterranean cuisine with dishes including onion pissaladière, niçoise salad, and tuna carpaccio, followed by a selection of perfectly prepared meats, fish, and pasta. A slice of Italian excellence brought to Jeddah. Le Vesuvio’s sleek interior, featuring a beautiful lemon tree centrepiece complemented by the stunning sea view, sets the scene for a memorable meal of modern Italian dishes. Look out for the live DJ every Thursday from 8pm. They also have a summer specials set menu starting at SAR150. That’s Amore .

This Italian fine-dining institution from West Hollywood has been serving up food influenced by the coastal cuisine of a Tuscan seaside town. Beautiful, sumptuous interiors make for super chic surroundings. Portions here are generous, the service is glorious, and the food is fabulous, too. Madeo is also having its summer specials that start at SAR165 per person.

Marina Social by Jason Atherton is back. First launched two years ago inside the Jeddah Yacht Club, the globally celebrated chef Jason Atherton invigorated the Kingdom’s dining scene. After a recent overhaul of the Yacht Club, the restaurant is now open, with an upgraded menu featuring an innovative selection of British-Mediterranean-inspired cuisine. It’s a beautiful place to have dinner, coupled with spectacular views, and we can’t wait to check out the restaurant again.

Maritime, helmed by renowned chef Cédric Vongerichten, is the hotel’s signature all-day restaurant. The menu skews heavily towards pan-Asian flavours with a modern French flair, inspired by his Bangkok childhood and years of experimenting with Indonesian flavours. Here, guests can enjoy sharing-style dishes, such as eggplant balado, vegetable spring roll, avocado salad, garlic crab rice, and pan-seared sea bass. In conjunction with the Jeddah Season 2024, Maritime is offering a set lunch (SAR180) and set dinner (SAR180 & SAR280) menu specials featuring some of the restaurant’s signature dishes.

Ramen lovers, prepare to slurp a bowl of the good stuff at Mashi No Mashi, Saudi Arabia’s first Wagyu ramen restaurant. Opened in May last year, Mashi No Mashi is the endeavour of self-taught chef and Wagyu evangelist Hisato Hamada. The broths are hearty, the noodles are bouncy and fresh, and the sides (gyoza, tataki, sando and more) are absolutely delicious. Not sure where to start? Read here for our recommendations. Unfortunately, the casual eatery will be closing for good this August, so run, don’t walk.

Obo Beach House

We love this boho-style restaurant with woven accents and plants for its coastal, laid-back vibe that flows through both the interior and exterior. Contemporary Italian seafood and Japanese cuisines are on the menu. It is the perfect spot for dinner, shisha and everything in between. It also has a big screen to watch all the EURO 2024 games on. Add in a beautiful sunset and a little sea breeze, and you have everything you need for an evening by the marina you’ll never forget.

Opening Soon:
Jeddah’s Instagram scene will be delighted to hear that Instagrammable café EL&N will be opening at the Jeddah Yacht Club & Marina. For anyone who’s visited one of EL&N’s cafés before, you’ll know that EL&N provides a dining experience unlike any other. Think gorgeous pink interiors, iconic floral walls, and innovative all-day food and drinks served in picturesque settings.
Em Sherif Café
This Lebanese eatery is a popular foodie spot in the region, and with good reason. Expect all the usual Levantine favourites, expertly executed, in a pared-back, modern setting. Its menu spans a wide gamut of dishes, including cold and hot mezze. Standouts are its silken hummus and soujouk (beef sausages) with shakshuka. Salads are a similarly strong suit, led by the Middle Eastern classic tabbouleh, while from the oven, the kafta, kissed by fire and drizzled in tahini, is an essential order for any group.

Jeddah Yacht Club & Marina hosts first superyachts
Saudi arabian f1 grand prix weekend gives a preview of the grand opening in march 2022….
As many of us saw over a breathless weekend of racing at the Saudi Arabian F1 Grand Prix 2021, the adjacent Jeddah Yacht Club & Marina hosted a range of superyachts in what served as a preview of the grand opening, scheduled for March 2022. The Red Sea has been a transient area and bunkering stop for much of the superyacht fleet en route to and from Asia Pacific. Still, The Jeddah Yacht Club (JYC) represents a step toward developing the region as a destination.
Over the next ten years, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as expressed in a statement to the Media, will undertake a series of significant developments in yachting infrastructure. Stretching from Neom in the North to Amaala and the Red Sea Project, the capacity for large yachts will expand to over 100 berths, up to 120m.
Jeddah itself is well located for superyachts, and this development hopes to extend its utility beyond resupply and bunkering. During the inaugural Saudi Arabian F1 Grand Prix, the JYC hosted some iconic superyachts, including the 95m M/Y O Pari from Golden Yachts and the 85m Sunrays from Oceanco and the 82m RoMEA from Abeking & Rasmussen .
Mohideen Nazer, director, parks & resorts at SELA, said in a statement: "We're delighted that the world of yachting now has its first home address on Saudi Arabia's Red Sea coast. This weekend has been a fitting preview of what's to come. We have developed a beautiful yacht club, and marina and the people of Jeddah have shown their welcoming hospitality. We have seen this weekend that Jeddah is an amazing place for yachts to visit".
The JYC is the first marina in the region that can accommodate vessels of up to 120m and will officially open in time for the return of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix on the 25th-27th March 2022. The Marina will also be recognised by the Kingdom as an official port of entry into Saudi Arabia, providing clearance for customs and immigration services for all foreign-flagged vessels. As highlighted by Oliver Rees, general manager of Jeddah Yacht Club & Marina (from January 2022): "It is a natural gateway to cruising amongst the wonders of the Red Sea, and we are confident that it will rapidly become a prime waypoint on the global yachting map."
A part of an ambitious series of developments in the Red Sea and the Gulf for the superyacht industry, the timeline and scale laid out for expected growth in the region are bold. As evidenced by the JYC, the region shows excellent promise for the fleet. SuperyachtNews will continue to report live on this fascinating region as the projects continue to take shape.

Not only does it include the new marina, the complex is home to the Jeddah Yacht Club and a selection of world-renowned retail and entertainment venues.
"We're delighted that the world of yachting now has its first home address on Saudi Arabia's Red Sea coast. This weekend has been a fitting preview of what’s to come,” says Mohideen Nazer, director, Parks & Resorts at SELA. “We have developed a beautiful yacht club and marina and the people of Jeddah have shown their welcoming hospitality.”
With berths for 100 yachts up to 120 meters, the marina is “the first step of a series of major yachting developments that will take place in the Kingdom over the next ten years, stretching from Neom in the North to Amaala and the Red Sea Project further south down to Jeddah and beyond,” the press release states. It will provide customs clearance and immigration services to all vessels or be a stop on yachts’ way to the cruising grounds of the East Indian Ocean and Southeast Asia.
Short-term and long-term berths are available ahead of the official launch. For more info, those interested should contact the marina manager: [email protected] .

Making waves: Why the city of Jeddah has become a key destination for the 37th America’s Cup
In a milestone moment for Jeddah, the Red Sea city is preparing to showcase its prime sailing conditions, world-leading facilities and dedication to providing opportunities to local people through the America’s Cup preliminary regatta.
The America’s Cup is the oldest sporting competition on the water, but that doesn’t mean it can’t embrace new traditions. With the second preliminary America’s Cup regatta heading for Jeddah in November 2023, the Saudi city has become the only venue outside of Spain to host a regatta in the 37th America’s Cup Cycle. The event will also be the first international yachting regatta on the Red Sea, marking a historic moment for Jeddah as well as a clear sign that the region’s sporting and boating scene is flourishing on a global level.
Competition to host the preliminary regatta is stiff, but Grant Dalton, CEO of the 37th America’s Cup and head of Emirates Team New Zealand, says that the synergy between Jeddah and the America’s Cup was felt immediately and the lengthy list of pros in Jeddah’s favour convinced them.
Creating opportunities
One such advantage was Jeddah’s long-standing dedication to promoting sports and boating among local people. “The kingdom has made commitments to certain sports, one of them being water sports,” Dalton explains.
Sailing in the region is still in its infancy, but there are enormous opportunities to bolster interest in the area, according to Dalton. “When standing back and looking at the opportunity for the growth of our sport that exists in the region, it is truly significant. Seventy per cent of the country’s population is under the age of 35 years and women’s participation in sport or physical activity is up by 149 per cent in recent years. So, we have a unique chance to grow sailing and create new connections with the unprecedented sustainability projects within the Red Sea that can transform lives through sailing,” he adds.
The Saudi Sailing Federation and Ministry of Sport are in full support of this sentiment. Both organisations are working in partnership with the America’s Cup to ensure that the event will be a “catalyst” to inspire local people, as well as broadening access to the Red Sea, according to Samia Bagdady, CEO of the Saudi Sailing Federation. The federation plans to use the event to launch new initiatives too, in the hope that the regatta will be a key driver for the region’s top sailors of tomorrow to get the support and training they need to compete on a global stage.
“We will use [the preliminary regatta] to kick-start a number of new initiatives including a Discover Sailing programme to encourage people on to the water and a Performance Pathway for talented sailors to train to compete at the top level,” says Hassan Kabbani, chairman of the Saudi Sailing Federation. “It is an honour to be selected to host an America’s Cup Preliminary Regatta and to be able to showcase to the sailing community the wonderful conditions we have.”
City of the future
Jeddah and the wider Saudi Arabia has long established itself as a key player in the fields of technology, sustainability and pioneering modern innovations. This was part of the reason Jeddah was initially considered, but beyond that, organisers were “sincerely struck by the people of Saudi” when they began visiting the region. Dalton says that “the friendship, the honesty, the can-do attitude” compelled him to discover more about what the city had to offer. “There’s a real pioneering feeling,” says Dalton, “and a real desire to get on and do something, not just talk about it. [This] fits quite naturally with the America’s Cup and who we are.”
A natural fit
On a practical level, it was Jeddah’s geographical location and unrivalled access to amenities that made it such a good fit for the preliminary regatta. The regatta will be taking place at Jeddah Yacht Club and Marina , one of the most modern and international marinas in the Red Sea. The venue has been coveting a prestigious reputation since 2021, when it successfully hosted the first Saudi Arabian Grand Prix and has continued to play host ever since. It’s a veritable superyacht hub in its own right, providing access to world-class facilities on shore and a treasure trove of undiscovered and off-the-beaten-track cruising locations at sea.
The preliminary America’s Cup regatta will get underway just a stone’s throw from the yacht club. “If you’re on the top floor of the yacht club, you’ll be looking straight down on the action,” says Dalton. The general public will have front-row seats too, with a premium line of sight from the Corniche. “It’s a kilometre and a half long, so it’ll provide a great viewing spot to watch the racing.”
As the highest level of sailing sport, there’s a feeling of honour that comes with hosting an America’s Cup regatta and Jeddah will be centre stage at the event. “As the pinnacle of sailing, I know the 37th America’s Cup and this preliminary regatta can have a positive influence on a number of fronts,” says Dalton. “We’re trailblazing in a region that’s the future of the sport, and I take immense pride in being a part of that.”
It’s a sentiment shared by Oliver Rees, general manager of Jeddah Yacht Club and Marina. “We’re very excited to be the host venue for the preliminary regatta. We have been welcoming some of the world’s most impressive superyachts and events since 2021, and this is an incredible next step, hosting the most prestigious yacht race in the world.
“We want to use the America’s Cup event as our legacy plan for the JYC academy, which will encourage Saudis to get involved with sailing, helping us build on more than 2,000 young people who took part in sailing experiences in 2022/23.”

- SELA announces preview of new Jeddah Yacht Club and opening of Saudi Arabia’s new JYC marina on eve of the inaugural Saudi F1 weekend!
- Latest news
SELA, the national company behind some of the most ambitious lifestyle development projects across the whole of Saudi Arabia, is delighted to announce that JYC Marina this week welcomes the first yachts to berth there on the occasion of the inaugural Saudi Arabia F1 Grand Prix.
This new international motorsport spectacular takes place this weekend from 3rd - 5th December, at the new circuit on Jeddah’s North Corniche – the fastest F1 street circuit in the world. Guests aboard megayachts like M/Y O Pari, 95m, built by Golden Yachts, the 85m Oceanco Sunrays and the 82m Abeking & Rasmussen RoMEA, have been joined by a fleet of over 40 superyachts and smaller units to take part in the fun, for what is going to be an adrenalin-packed weekend, just a stone's throw away from the JYC Marina.
JYC Marina is the first marina along the Red Sea coast that can accommodate superyachts and megayachts up to 120m in a world-class environment. In parallel, this opening event will give visiting yachts and VIP visitors to the F1 a unique opportunity to preview the premises of the upcoming Jeddah Yacht Club, which will be officially opened around the time when the Saudi F1 GP returns for the 2022 season on 25-27 March 2022.
A project built in record time – an incredible six months from first breaking ground, on an inland site, to welcoming some of the biggest yachts in the world this week - the entire complex is situated in the northern part of Jeddah, only a few kilometers away from the new King Abdulaziz airport and the city center. It comprises JYC Marina, the Jeddah Yacht Club and a collection of retail and F&B outlets on the marina Boardwalk around the basin.
WORLD CLASS MARINA
Capable of berthing over 100 yachts of all sizes up to 120m, JYC Marina epitomizes the future of superyachting on Saudi Arabia's Red Sea coastline. It is the first step into major yachting developments that are to take place in the Kingdom over the next 10 years, stretching from Neom in the North to Amaala and the Red Sea Project further south down to Jeddah and beyond.
Developed by SELA, JYC Marina provides berthing in a safe and secure environment with gated entry and easy access for guests, service providers and ship chandlers. It offers all the necessary supplies of electricity, water and fuel bunkering facilities, in a spectacular modern and functional environment. It has an on-site helipad to make it convenient for guests to arrive and embark or disembark discretely.
One of the key benefits of JYC Marina is that it is recognized by the Saudi authorities as a port of entry into the Kingdom. As such, it provides customs clearance and immigration services to all vessels, including foreign-flagged superyachts that will charter in the area, or stop off to visit this fast-developing destination on their way to the newly opened cruising grounds of the East Indian Ocean and Southeast Asia. In addition, once fully operational by the end of March 2022, JYC Marina will provide repair and maintenance facilities within the Marina precinct.
With its highly strategic location, JYC Marina is ready to welcome permanent and seasonal yachts coming from the Mediterranean, the GCC, the Indian Ocean, Asia and beyond. As it is already possible to book short or long-term berthing at Port JYC Marina, interested yachts can enquire directly with the Marina manager by emailing [email protected].
WORLD CLASS YACHT CLUB
An exclusive members-only establishment, the Jeddah Yacht Club was founded to grow the maritime spirit and lifestyle in Saudi Arabia by providing diverse, world-class experiences across a full spectrum of social, sports and leisure activities. Strategically positioned at the crossroads of historical Red Sea maritime routes, JYC aims to provide a major new platform in the Kingdom for the development of sailing, boating and every facet of the healthy, fun-filled, on-water and sporting lifestyle for its members. It also intends to raise awareness of the need to protect marine biodiversity and ensure the preservation of the Red Sea environment for the younger generations and the local community to enjoy and take care of in their turn.
The perfect complement to JYC Marina, the development of the Jeddah Yacht Club was initiated only six months ago, at the end of April 2021 – designed and built from scratch in record time. As SELA will be completing the final touches to the Club House for its official opening less than a year after the project was launched, the Jeddah Yacht Club team have decided to take advantage of the first F1 weekend to play host to private, invitation-only entertainment and hospitality for future members and Marina guests to discover the premises and facilities soon to be available.
The Jeddah Yacht Club's architecture has been carefully designed to stimulate the senses and offer its members a rich, marine-inspired atmosphere where they can enjoy the numerous social and nautical activities available. Its mast-and-sail-themed 5,000sqm club house, located by the entrance channel of the Marina, is a beacon, a lighthouse that welcomes visitors to Jeddah’s shores.
In addition to panoramic views of the city, the Jeddah Yacht Club boasts a feast of facilities for its members, which include restaurants, a wellness center, a business center, lounges, concierge services, sailing and nautical activities. Its Beach Club, operated by a team from world-renowned Omnia Club, features an infinity pool with glorious views over the Red Sea.
Another first in Jeddah, the Jeddah Yacht Club will welcome the Jason Atherton restaurant. Famous to gastronomes from London to Shanghai, Mykonos to St. Moritz, this Michelin Star-rated chef is instantly recognized for his cool artistic creations that evoke memories from other times and other places.
Mohideen Nazer, Director Parks & Resorts, SELA : "We're delighted that the world of yachting now has its first home address on Saudi Arabia's Red coast. All the teams have worked very hard to give birth to this great Marina and magnificent Club House in record time. This is a small step in our contribution to the realization of Vision 2030 for the Kingdom, but it is nonetheless a major first step to turn the Red Sea Coast into a compelling destination for yachting aficionados to enjoy our amazing cruising grounds".
Oliver Rees, General Manager Jeddah Yacht Club & Marina (from January 2022) : "JYC Marina and the Jeddah Yacht Club will be a perfect home port for private yachts, but also a great place to meet, enjoy sailing and water sports and revel in the quality of services we have on offer. It will also be a gateway to the wonders of the Red Sea, and we are confident that this fantastic new facility will rapidly become a prime waypoint on the global yachting map."

JEDDAH YACHT CLUB & MARINA OPENS WORLD CLASS TRAINING ACADEMY AHEAD OF AMERICA'S CUP EVENT
Updated: Feb 13
Jeddah Yacht Club & Marina is proud to announce the launch of The JYC Academy, a state-of-the-art training center designed to give the best sailing and powerboat training in Saudi Arabia. Jeddah Yacht Club & Marina has partnered with RS Sailing to provide an extensive range of boats and has secured the renowned RYA accreditation to ensure the highest degree of excellence.
Mohideen Nazer, Senior Vice President at Sela the company behind Jeddah Yacht Club & Marina proudly stated:
“We have invested in these amazing facilities at The JYC Academy because we are committed to the growth of watersports throughout Saudi Arabia. We have built a world class training center in Jeddah that will inspire people new to the sport to come and try it and will provide elite sailors with the best opportunity to develop their competitive skills. We want as many people as possible to enjoy watersports - young and old, newcomers and elite alike - and we have built a center that is inspirational.”
The opening of The JYC Academy comes ahead of the America’s Cup Preliminary Regatta being hosted at Jeddah Yacht Club & Marina in late November. The world’s best sailors and most advanced AC40 “flying” boats will do battle on the Red Sea for the first time in the history of the world’s oldest sporting trophy, which started in 1851.
Adrian Peet, VP of Marine Development at Sela, is enthusiastic about the new opportunities that the Academy’s facilities open up:
“The eyes of the sailing world will be on Saudi Arabia from 29th November to 2nd December. Launching The JYC Academy now, partnering with RS Boats and gaining RYA accreditation will allow us to capitalise on the increased interest and excitement. It will allow us to get more people out on the water and allow us to provide world-class training facilities all year round."
Peet continues:
“We are proud to have secured accreditation from the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) and to have the largest range of accredited courses in the Kingdom, from RYA Level One up to Yacht Master Theory. The RYA is the gold standard, so our students will benefit from cutting-edge training methods and internationally recognized certification pathways.”
The RS Sailing fleet at The JYC Academy includes RS Zests for those new to the sport, RS Neos and Quests for beginner training, RS Fevas for ambitious youths and kite work, RS Cat 16, and the RS500 to give advanced sailors the thrill of trapezing.
Dan Jaspers, International Business Developer at RS Sailing, expressed his eagerness to support the Kingdom's rapidly expanding sailing scene:
“The team behind The JYC Academy have the same ethos and same objectives that we have at RS Sailing. They are focusing on the development of the sport and on growing the next generation of sailors in Saudi Arabia. Bringing sailing back to a nation that once relied on water for life and trade, and seeing it come full circle, is incredibly exciting for us.”
Jeddah Yacht Club & Marina and The JYC Academy are run by a highly acclaimed team of marine professionals led by Oliver Rees, General Manager; Colin Ralph, Marina Director, and Louise Ralph, JYC Academy Manager. The team has several decades of combined experience working at the best marinas and sailing clubs around the world.
Sela is the company behind Jeddah Yacht Club & Marina and some of the most ambitious lifestyle development projects in Saudi Arabia. Sela has been at the forefront of the drive to grow watersports in Saudi. Sela’s goal is to bring about a sailing renaissance in line with Saudi Vision 2030.
