Description.

• Powerboat VR is an advanced speed boat simulator designed specifically for VR, but also includes a Non-VR mode. Powerboat VR is a more serious take on powerboat racing with a robust physics engine that allows the boats to react realistically to the fully dynamic 3D ocean wave system which can simulate everything from a calm lagoon to white capped and unpredictable open water. The world of Powerboat VR is split into 2 distinct parts... 1. Realistic powerboat racing mode currently offers several different race courses to practice on against AI opponents. All boat types can be raced. This area is under constant development with new courses, boats and even biomes being released on a weekly basis. 2. A large (currently 50km2) open world multi-biome map to explore at your own pace. While on your travels keep an eye out for various animal life such as sharks and birds - you never know what you might spot! In VR mode you can even invite a local Co-op player to join you.

Description

If this 'simulator' is to be believed, powerboat racing is a chaotic race across a number of largely one-directional tracks with fjords and inlets forcing you down one of two lanes, and sections where a bridge needs to be cleared by hitting a ramp at the right speed beforehand (as you jump over these, you can land so as to skim off other boats). Your boat is fitted with bombs, which can be placed so as to force the other boats to run over them, gaining you points. Extra bombs and fuel litter the course, often close to the banks, which you must avoid contact with, for fear of crashing your boat. When this happens you are forced into the next one, which is, as if by magic, available at a convenient point just beforehand. A helicopter flies overhead, dropping bombs which you must avoid, and often obscuring your view. The other boats often crowd together attempting to force you into the wall.

As with all the Codemasters budget titles, realism goes out of the window, with an emphasis on simple instantaneous action.

The Boz 2022-11-15 0 point Commodore 64 version

Got this game as part of one of those budget Codemasters' compilations where you got 4 games for £3 on a single cassette. Usually you got 1 decent game, 2 okayish games and a poor game. This wasn't too bad, but I can't say I was a big fan of Powerboat Simulator at the time.
