Description

Tasman ocean 35 - 'serendipity'.

A beautiful 3 cabin catamaran with 2 Queen beds and 1 double plus 2 large ensuites, ensures there is plenty of room for everyone on board. The roomy saloon features a large dining table, huge opening forward hatches providing excellent ventilation, great for catching a pleasant sea breeze while sharing a meal and the memories of the day in the large wrap around leather settee.

The central galley in the saloon facing out towards the aft deck means the 'chef' is always part of the action. The interior is welcoming and comfortable with personal touches bringing a relaxed and homely feel to the catamaran.

The covered cockpit and BBQ area is a great spot for an afternoon beverage and just taking in the sublime surroundings of the beautiful Whitsundays.

Easy sailing, with a self tacking jib and fully battened main, she presents an impressive figure under full sail. The Twin Yanmar 35 hp diesel engines make for very economical operating when the wind disappears.

Relax with some music in the background and chill out on the aft deck as the sun sets on another day in the glorious Whitsundays.

Testimonial

Wow - what an adventure we had in November cruising the Whitsundays. We - 6 adults and a 2 year old - set sails on a sunny afternoon with high expectations (and special sea sickness bracelets). The week turned out to be completely different than what we had expected. Day 2 we woke up to the sound of rain on the cabin windows. "Well, it's probably just a shower", we all agreed, and prepared to grab our swimmers as soon as the rain stopped. Unfortunately, the "shower" lasted almost all week! You would think that we would all be devestated by the wet feet, the grey outlook and the damp cabins, but we actuallly had an amazing holiday! We quicly came up with all sorts of alternative activities on board, such as quiz games, draving and playing (adult style) with the 2 year old's playdough! When the sun finally emerged on day 4 for a few hours, we were so excited and happy - there was no doubt that it was all worth it. We quicly jumped into the dinghy and sailed to the nearest beach where we were lucky enough to meet some of the locals - 3 wallabies! We would definitely go again any time and we encourage everyone to be bold and not let the weather affect you if you end up in a similar situation. The Whitsundays are amazing no matter what. Also, having a toddler on board turned out to be great! She really loved life on the ship and kept a smile on everyone's faces during the long rainy days. The service from Cumberland was everything we could have hoped for. We were particularly happy about the detailed weather reports over the radio and the thorough instructions on the first day.

Exclusive access to Tasmania’s wilderness on a luxury catamaran

Discover the untamed wilderness of Tasmania’s southwest on Odalisque III , a luxurious one-of-a-kind boutique catamaran with On Board Expeditions.

After a 50-minute flight from Hobart, the seaplane skims across glassy water, and I catch sight of skipper Pieter van der Woude standing on the deck of his gleaming new catamaran. With a flagpole flying the Red Ensign, used by ships registered in Australia, intricate Indigenous art on the hull and nipaluna/Hobart painted on the stern, not only was Odalisque III clearly built locally, but connection to place is woven into every part of this classy vessel. “We want to highlight local artisans and producers,” Van der Woude says proudly – he hung up his flippers and snorkel as an abalone diver to start small-scale tourism operations. Little did he know that his venture with On Board would go on to take out gold at the 2023 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards for Best New Tourism Business.

What to expect on board Odalisque III

The new expedition-cruiser Odalisque III has been custom-built to offer a new level of luxury boutique accommodation. It provides unparalleled design made for just 12 guests. Six luxe cabins all feature queen sized beds with private ensuites. Grand windows offer panoramic views, meaning you, literally, wake each day to a different view of Tasmania’s coast. While décor is a nod to the dramatic colours of the southwest or the soft, sandy hues of the east coast. Bed linen is screen printed with Tasmanian botanicals like kelp and a rare flowering holly, lomatia Tasmanica .

From picture windows in the cabins framing the wilderness to striking art installations, organic toiletries made from the oil of Tasmanian trees, and handmade sea-green coloured crockery, it has a luxury wilderness lodge vibe – on water. So much so, the Odalisque III is already a member of the prestigious Luxury Hotels of Australia and partnered with Saffire Freycinet for an ultimate coast-to-coast experience.

Discover World-Heritage Wilderness

On Board’s exclusive Port Davey mooring offers unique access to remote locations inaccessible by road. Port Davey is part of the Southwest National Park, filled with a stunning rugged landscape between the Southern Ocean and Bathurst Harbour. Tailored itineraries explore the wilderness on foot and by boat. Four- or six-night itineraries include daily guided walks, shore excursions, and return scenic wilderness flights from Hobart to Port Davey.

And with two tinnies (tenders) at the ready, you have the opportunity to explore the Breaksea Islands. The Breaksea Islands are a chain of jagged isles, rising from the sea like sentinels. History is etched into the sculptured lines and craggy overhangs of the 12-metre quartzite walls.

catamaran tasmania accommodation

Stretching over an area three times the size of Sydney Harbour, as part of Tasmania’s Wilderness World Heritage Area (TWWHA), Port Davey together with Bathurst Harbour is home to myriad of natural treasures waiting for you to explore. See the rich and rugged landscapes with guided walks across the mountain peaks of Balmoral Hill, filled with local wildlife. Discover the sea caves, serene rivers, and estuaries of breathtaking Bathurst Harbour. Take a tender vessel to Davey River Gorge and wander through an ancient forest of Huon pine. Kick off your shoes and walk the fine sands of the Southern Ocean by Stephens Bay. Activities cater to all your nature and adventure-seeking tastes.

Every day brings a new adventure. Fire-red sunrises greet our mornings, the sinking sun paints the sky pink and orange. There are no roads. Apart from light aircraft, the only way in is by boat or a seven-day hike. Cocooned in nature, the outside world ceases to exist. Devices fall silent, replaced by the art of conversation. You will tread softly through forests and meander along narrow tannin-stained waterways.

Sustainable and self-contained

Built in Hobart with a focus on using local materials and designed to have a low impact on the environment, Odalisque III is fully self-contained, including black water holding tanks working to Australian Maritime Safety Authority and Parks and Wildlife Service standards. Artisan makers crafted much of the furniture, including handmade ceramics, tableware, and artwork, in Tasmania. Tinted glass avoids excess air-conditioning, and cruises avoid single-use plastic. All just some of the sustainable practices on board.

Wine and dine as you cruise Tasmania

Come nightfall, reward yourself after a day of activity with sundowners on the boat deck. Or relax in the elegant Wheelhouse Lounge with a glass of sparkling wine. Before feasting on Tasmania’s finest produce created by a private chef. From backstraps of Doo Town venison and platters of crayfish plucked by divers in nearby waters, to heirloom vegetables grown in the Huon Valley, dishes are a feast for our eyes as much as palates – and of course each is paired with fine Tasmanian fine wines, beers, ciders or whiskies.

The Wheelhouse Lounge has sumptuous soft seating, surrounded by books and artworks by talented Tasmanian artists, including Michaye Boulter, is an elegant spot to end an active day. The bar is fully stocked with local sparkling wine, award-winning Tasmanian Pinot, and four Tasmanian beers on tap. Its open helm creates a relaxed feel to mingle with other travellers and dive deep into conversation with the skipper. With expansive water views, multiple lounges and outdoor dining spaces, and a sun deck, Odalisque III is the crème de la crème of catamarans that doesn’t compromise comfort.

Bathurst Harbour

Sensational sea-to-plate dishes

Head chef Courtney Drew creates fine dining dishes that celebrate the best of Tasmanian produce, working with local suppliers and the seasons on tantalising recipes. The intimate dining room is made for a casual dinner party with plush leather bench seating and more of those stunning panoramic views.

Sea-to-plate dishes with Tasmanian seafood like crayfish, oysters, and abalone are freshly plucked from the sea to make seafood risotto or a bowl of delicate Spring Bay mussels. Plus, a decadent selection of dishes from the land – Wallaby shanks and slowly braised beef cheek – are just a few current menu favourites.

It has only taken a few minutes for our catamaran to drift from crystal-clear skies and waters into a 360-degree haze of sea mist. The chop in Tasmania's Storm Bay isn't too ferocious today, nor are the winds, but our vessel is 24 metres long - small enough for the swell to leave it wobbling. I'm not sure if it's sea sickness or the tablet I took to prevent it, but I'm feeling lethargic - as if I am inside a dream. And the sea mist is only adding to the effect.

Port Arthur. Picture: Akash Arora

But as the catamaran nears Port Arthur - laced with history and melancholy - the haze thins away just as quickly as it appeared, and shameless blue skies emerge again. It's as if someone's opened a curtain and let sun into a dark room.

And this is pretty much going to be the order of the day for the next four days. Because we're sailing along Tasmania's east coast, where Mother Nature is fierce and fickle. She can send frigid winds from Antarctica one moment, then peel back the clouds and drown us in heat the next.

In fact, our four-night cruise on On Board Expeditions' striking new catamaran, Odalisque III, is going to be a lesson in letting go.

After departing from Hobart, the plan is to skirt along the rugged coast, sail past majestic cliffs such as the Blade and weave our way through islands like Batsy, Schuten, Tasman and Maria, before ending up in Coles Bay in the Freycinet National Park region.

Odalisque III. Picture: Akash Arora

But On Board Expeditions owner and our skipper on this jaunt, Pieter van der Woude, is not promising anything. He earned his stripes diving for abalone for 25 years along the wind-battered coastlines of Tasmania so he knows this neck of the woods like the back of his hand.

He also knows just how temperamental the elements can be here. Winds and waves will pretty much determine when and where we go each day and - for that matter - how fast or slow.

Am I, who plans and tries to control every last aspect of my life, ready to let go? The next four days shall reveal.

Painted cliffs

During his lifetime, Geoffrey Dyer - arguably Tasmania's most famous artist and the winner of the 2003 Archibald Prize - painted hundreds of landscapes featuring the red-lichen-clad cliffs of the east coast. But he never saw them the way I am seeing them on the third day of the cruise.

I know this because Dyer's long-term partner, Kristiya, is one of the eight guests on this expedition.

As Odalisque III sails past Cape Bernier Nature Reserve, dwarfed by its soaring bluffs, Kristiya and I gawk at the dramatic red sandstone cliffs plunging into emerald waters. "Geoff was obsessed with these cliffs," remembers Kristiya. "But when he painted them, he was always on land, looking at them in the distance. Not at sea, looking up at these mountains from such close proximity."

One of Odalisque III's luxe cabins. Picture: Akash Arora

When it comes to luxury, the cruise onboard Odalisque III leaves you wanting for nothing. It starts with a scenic seaplane flight from the Hobart waterfront to Opossum Bay, where the catamaran is anchored. Onboard the vessel, there are six state-of-the-art suites with tall, wide glass windows and well-equipped ensuites. There's a long, sunlit dining room on the main deck, a slick lounge with plush couches on the upper deck and an al fresco sitting area on the aft of the vessel.

And there's a small army of incredible staff (Jess the head host, Courtney the chef, Nancye the host and Doozie the guide), who not only cater to all your needs when you're onboard the vessel but can also turn an isolated beach on an uninhabited island into an open-air pop-up restaurant with gourmet food (as they do on the last day of the cruise on Maria Island).

But perhaps the biggest luxury here is nature and your closeness to it. Dozens of mega ships cruising between mainland Australia and Hobart ply these waters, but none of them can come as close to these red mountains, stop at these quiet coves or sail between isolated islands because they're just too big in size.

As Kristiya says: "There are details on these cliffs you can only see when you're on a small boat. I wish Geoff was here."

The best scallop pie

An intense argument erupts at the dinner table when I ask who does the best scallop pie in Hobart. Everyone on this cruise other than me and my partner is from Hobart or nearby and they all have an opinion.

Some say Smith's Pies is the best; others vouch for the ones at Harbour Lights Cafe on the Hobart waterfront. But there's no disagreement about the food on the table.

Courtney the chef. Picture: Akash Arora

Whether it's surf and turf (which stars Cape Grim beef and crayfish from the coastal town of Bicheno) or free-range pork belly (which comes from Scottsdale, in the state's north-east), chef Courtney sources everything straight from the local producers. Even the humble sides - from Tassie Dutch carrots glazed in honey to pink eye potatoes rubbed in salt - hold their own. There's also a bar laden with exquisite local wines.

In the end we never make it to Coles Bay. The BOM app and Pieter's own instincts tell us the conditions are going to be rough. So plans are changed and the vessel is steered into Spring Bay, where guests disembark near the town of Triabunna.

Gourmet food on board. Picture: Akash Arora

Am I disappointed? Not one bit. I have experienced more adventure in these four days than I have in the entire year. I have hiked a part of the Tasman Coastal Trail near Fortescue Bay where Doozie the guide pointed out the difference between jack jumper ants and inchman ants. I have walked barefoot on the sands of Rheban Beach with just screeching plovers for company. And I have spotted dozens of wombat families and curious kangaroos on a sunset stroll on Maria Island.

But more than anything, on this expedition, where Mother Nature determines when and where you go - and how fast or slow - I have finally learnt to let go.

Or, better still, I learnt to go with the flow.

Robert Devine – January 29, 2024

Such a pristine and peaceful location. The house was immaculate and felt like home. Perfect place to unwind and relax. Will definitely be back.

November 23

We absolutely loved our time here, one of the better Airbnb’s we have been at, it was beautiful and clean and a really nice weekend away.

November 2023

We really enjoyed the peace and quiet and the lovely comfortable home. The walking tracks are well marked with many beautiful vistas of bush and water. A very restful stay and Tina and Robert were great hosts.

September 2023

We stayed 2 nights for our honeymoon and we wish we stayed longer but we had a big itinerary for 8 days! The 2 nights in Dover really stood out even though we stayed in hotspots like Coles Bay, Bruny Island & Hobart – we highly recommend stopping in at the Rum River Lodge for lunch or dinner it was such a unique find and the Hasting Caves while in the area! But the best part was the walking trail the owners of the property have created. We rate it one of the greatest walks we’ve ever done, such diverse landscapes and to have it exclusively just reminded us how lucky we really area to visit such special country. Travelling all the way from Sunshine Coast Queensland and we are so grateful we booked this place to be apart of our honeymoon memory. The house is the cosiest homely well thought out place with the best vibes ever surrounded by absolute peace and privacy. We even walked into such thoughtful gifts, The whole experience 11/10

We came down to turn off and relax! This was an amazing spot! Perfect little house in amazing surrounds and a beautiful way to spend a long weekend with someone special. We had such a good time. Highly recommended.

August 2023

This was our 3rd visit to celebrate my partner’s 53rd birthday. She and I always enjoy it here, different walks, things to see and do, but more importantly, to relax and unwind. we have visited here in both Summer and Winter, and the fireplace is the best in winter, while the cool breezes flowing through the house in summer allow you to take in the forest aromas and relax. The abundance of wildlife and bird sounds just make the stay unforgettable.

We were blown away by the setting, the place, the Boathouse. great attention to detail, had everything we needed. the place was pre-warmed for us and kindling ready to light the fire. Perfect.

Amazing stay, beautiful home on the water. So peaceful and private. Would definitely stay again. Loved the fireplace and jacuzzi. Beautiful furnishings. Clean. Had everything we needed. Everything was clearly explained. Highly recommend 😁

February 2023

RELIEF … that lovely feeling when you open the door and know you have a found the perfect property. 5 Star Private and very quiet but on the edge of Dover township However long you stay it won’t be enough

January 2023

An awesome place to stay. We did not want to leave. Privacy and a wonderful opportunity to experience nature and listen to the water and birdsong.

We loved ringing in the new year at the Boathouse. The location is stunning and the house had everything we needed to relax and recharge. We very much hope to be back for another stay soon!

December 2022

Completely in awe of this Airbnb. Absolutely beautiful. We loved the scenic view from the balcony, spending time in nature and the wildlife. Every decoration, the details and the small touches makes this place so special. Peaceful, quiet, private and immersed in nature! We can’t wait to stay again! Was the perfect way to spend Christmas! Rachael is very quick to responded and nothing to too much hassle!

August 20222

This was our second visit, the last being in the summer, this time in the winter, and we were not disappointed! We felt totally relaxed warmed by the wood fire, the serenity of the bush, and the sound of rain falling while sleeping. We’ll definitely be visiting again!

Thanks Rachael for our stay. We really enjoyed the boat house and the beautiful Hartz Mountain Hike nearby. Beautiful accommodation with gorgeous features.

Rachael Trueman – June 27, 2022

The perfect place to spend our honeymoon. Highly recommend for couples looking for a luxurious stay. The property also offers amazing private walking tracks which was a real bonus. The hot tub was to die for. Attention to detail was great and the boathouse had everything we needed.

The most beautiful house and location. Incredibly comfortable, cosy and very stylish. The perfect romantic retreat, we wished we could have stayed much, much longer!

A beautiful, quiet & serene stay. Everything has been thought of & provided for the ultimate relaxation. And that spa has incredible views!

Rachael Trueman – March 30, 2022

From the moment we opened the big red gate we felt like we were home. Our very own private dream home. The quality decor made this stay extra special. Deliberately fitted out to the little unexpected it made us feel like we were special. The views from the HOT hot-tub were soaked up for hours and at night you are reminded again what a gem the Boathouse is. The well primed fire place with ample wood, the absolute silence and the STARS. Our 3 night stay will stay with us for a long time. Clearly we fell in love with the Boathouse. Thank you so much.

Rachael Trueman – November 12, 2021

luscious, luxurious and private

Richard Chalmers – May 13, 2021

Amazing place to stay. Beautiful views.

Beautiful stunning and relaxing. The boathouse far exceeded our expectations and will definitely highly recommend to any couple looking for a peaceful private escape. will definitely be returning in the future.

Great property, quiet and beautiful location.

September 2020

Incredible piece of paradise!! We just loved our weekend escape, and will definitely be back!!!

Such a beautiful weekend getaway. The fireplace and spa on the deck just made it!!!

February 2020

Beautiful location, lovely and clean. Thank you

November 2019

Spent a lovely two nights at the Boathouse – could definitely stay there a whole week. The property is a perfect place to unwind. Everything was beautiful and well thought out.

Cristian Mendoza – April 28, 2021

We stayed in the Boat House and it was superb. Everything in the cabin was high-spec and it much better than we were expecting. The view from the deck across the water is lovely and it’s a very short stroll down the track to the rock-beach looking toward Dover. The spa in the deck was the icing on the cake. Watching a sunset in the spa with a glass from the bottle of complementary champagne was something we’ll never forget. Amenities, fixtures etc: excellent. Location: excellent.

September 2018

Absolutely incredible space, very happy. Amazingly well appointed and beautiful location.

I couldn’t recommend a more suitable place to enjoy the serene winter sunset, with people special to you. We got engaged here, and were enthralled by the property and its design and styling, as well as the location and surrounding nature. Beautiful.

The Boat House – a tranquil haven. We loved our time at the Boat House. Spacious, private, everything you need for a very comfortable and luxe stay. Perfectly built as a hideaway for a couple. The bush tracks are left natural so you can enjoy a leg stretch in wilderness right from your doorstep.

Thank you for sharing!

This was the perfect place for a romantic weekend away to recharge the batteries.

About The Region

Hobart is located on the estuary of the Derwent River. The Central Business District is located on the western shore, adjacent to Sullivan's Cove, with the inner suburbs spread out along the shores of the Derwent and climbing up the hills at the foot of Mount Wellington (1270 metres). Tasmania's south has many interesting places to see, including picturesque Georgian era towns and villages, Australia's most intact and well known convict era remnants and some of Australia's most spectacular coastal scenery. Marine oil: marine gear, engine and motor oil companies .

Devil Cat is constructed from marine-grade aluminium alloys, particularly, the 5383-H116 alloy. The aluminium superstructure is supported on vibration damping mounts. The catamaran design is characterised by long slender waterborne hulls, each subdivided into eight watertight compartments, with very little buoyancy at the bow. As each hull encounters a wave it tends to ‘pierce’ through it rather than ride over it.

Passenger comfort has been increased significantly with the introduction of the 91m wave-piercing catamaran. Excluding hull shape and form, which contribute significantly to a comfortable ride, part of the improvement can be attributed to the enhancement of the Maritime Dynamics Inc. ride control system. The system consists of an active trim tab mounted at the transom of each hull, which provides trim and motion dampening. Forward active ride control T foils will also be fitted to maximise the effect of the MDI system.

The air-conditioned electronics room, located under the bridge, can be accessed via a private stairwell leading from the bridge or, alternatively, from the vehicle deck. The area conveniently houses many unmanned electronic subsystems, previously located in the wheelhouse.

The main passenger deck (tier 2) contains two lounges, separated by an amenities block housing toilet facilities, a baby changing room and a small crew mess with shower facilities. On the forward side of the atrium, Café 91, a duty free store and a ships office are found. Tier 2 seating consists entirely of aircraft-style seats, supplied by the Australian-based company, Maxton Fox.

The vessel is powered by four Ruston 20 RK270 conventional medium-speed diesel engines, which provide 7,080kW (9,500hp) each. Each engine drives a transom mounted waterjet (Lips LJ145D) through a Renk ASL60 reduction gearbox. Along with steering and reversing, the custom-designed Lipstronic jet control system provides the option of thrust vectoring and autopilot.

Two Caterpillar generators in each hull (four 230kW in total) feed associated independent main switchboards that are can disconnect in an emergency. The standard AC supply and distribution system is 415/240V, three phase.

AUTOMATION AND CONTROL

The navigation and communication equipment is supplied by Electrotech Australia. The ship’s position is provided by a Decca MX400B, a six-channel GPS with a built-in DGPS Beacon Receiver. Primary navigation is performed by the two Decca BridgeMaster II 250 Series radars. The Navigator’s radar uses a 30kW S-Band transceiver transmitting at 3GHz with a 12ft scanner. The Captain’s radar is an X-Band 25kW unit transmitting at 9.4GHz into a 6ft scanner. Both scanners rotate at 48rpm to maximise target detection when the vessel is travelling at high speed.

A Skipper GDS101 with a 50kHz transceiver provides optimum sea-bottom detection, even at speeds greater than 40 knots.

Long-range communications in the 2MHz to 30MHz band is provided by a Skanti TRP7200 Transceiver. Two Skanti VHF3000 25W transceivers operating in the frequency range 155MHz to 163MHz provide line-of-sight, short-range communications. The Navigator’s VHF3000 is interfaced to a DSC3000 DSC Controller, which enables DSC functions in the VHF band. A McMurdo MCM406A Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon will automatically float free and transmit on 406MHz in the case of shipwreck.

Power outages force UTAS students out of Launceston accommodation after union strike delays fix

By Jessica Moran

Students at the University of Tasmania had to move accommodation after the electrical union refused to fix an ongoing power outage due to taking part in industrial action.

More than 100 students were affected by the blackout.

What's next?

Hundreds of customers remain without power due to a number of outages in Launceston and its still not yet known when the outages will be fixed.

Students living at the University of Tasmania's Inveresk campus in Launceston have had to leave and move to another campus, due to a power outage that the electrical union said would have been fixed earlier if not for industrial action.

The campus has been closed since Tuesday morning after an underground cable was damaged, and last night around 120 students who live on campus were moved to the Newnham campus for the night.

The university said students will have to stay there again on Wednesday evening.

Second year psychology student Praveen Piyadasa noticed his Inveresk apartment was without power early on Tuesday morning.

Although other students have moved to the Newnham campus, with meals provided by the university, he's opted to stay off-campus.

"It's a bit more freedom and the Newnham campus is out of the way," he said.

"This long a power cut is a bit unusual … and a bit inconvenient but the university is doing its best to support us."

Communications, Electrical and Plumbing Union (CEPU) members began industrial action yesterday, asking for pay that's in line with other states.

"This potentially could have been fixed yesterday had the power been turned back on and the repair work undertaken," union organiser Chris Clark said.

Mr Clark says industrial action by the CEPU delayed repairs. ( Facebook: Chris Clark )

"The fact that the power wasn't turned back on, in a manner that would be considered normal, is in direct relation to our industrial action," he said.

"As it sits now, the power will remain off indefinitely while the industrial action takes place."

Mr Clark said members didn't want to take this action but had been "left with no choice".

"We gave TasNetworks ample warning that this could be the case."

A sign reads TasNetworks

Mr Clark says TasNetworks had been warned that industrial action would be taken. ( ABC News: Luke Bowden )

"Currently we have a switching ban in place which means electrical equipment is not getting turned on and they aren't doing the repair work necessary.

"My understanding is TasNetworks is trying to fast-track some contractors to get them in to potentially do that repair work so whether they've had adequate training, I'm not sure," he said.

TasNetworks chief executive officer, Seán Mc Goldrick said power was restored at the university at 4.30pm on Wednesday, and confirmed it took longer to fix because of the union action.

Mr McGoldrick confirms that the delays were caused by the CPEU's switching ban. ( Facebook: TasNetworks )

"Power's been restored to UTAS Stadium and the Inveresk UTAS campus this afternoon — some 36 hours after the outage started. We hope and expect to restore remaining residential customers this afternoon," he said.

"This outage took longer than usual to resolve because of union-led industrial action. But we thank all team members involved, as well as contractors, for ultimately getting it resolved. We thank Tasmanians for their ongoing patience and support."

Mr Piyadasa said it was "infuriating" the plumbing union had chosen not to repair the outage because of industrial action.

"That's throwing a lot of lives out of order and into serious difficulty, because some of us have lives to get on with, and I think that's quite selfish," he said.

Boags Brewery, along with several other businesses in the CBD, were impacted yesterday but power has since been restored for those areas.

TasNetworks says it's offering an enterprise agreement that supports and rewards its workers.

"We're concentrating our resources into our number one priority — keeping outage times as short as possible, and keeping the network safe and reliable," Mr Mc Goldrick said.

"The CEPU has agreed that all industrial action will be halted in the event that I need to declare an emergency – for example, because of storm damage to the network."

A decision will be made later tonight on whether the campus will remain closed tomorrow.
