If we don't have the template you need, you can simply send us your self-made template and we will custom cut your carpets for you in your choice of carpet style and color. If you use your old carpets to make a template make sure to cut it out and lay your template back in the boat and make sure all the studs for snaps are covered by the template. Carpet is usually stretched out onto the snaps and when the carpet comes off the snaps carpet can shrink up to an inch or more.  If we make your carpet using your template and the new material does not fit your new material is NOT returnable or refundable as your template was what we used to cut your new carpet. 

If the template we have listed is not your exact year or does not have a product picture it is YOUR responsibility to contact us to get dimensions to check against your studs in your boat. Boats and boat options are different for different years.

• Loop Pile Carpets

These carpets are known for their exceptional durability and are ideal if you expect heavy foot traffic. The fibers of these rugs are designed in a loop form which creates a tightly woven surface. The only disadvantage of loop pile carpets is that they can easily be torn with a sharp object.

• Cut Pile Carpets

These are a more common type of boat carpet. Cut pile carpets have longer and looser fibers which make them ideal for comfort. These rugs’ looped fibers are clipped in half, so only the ends connect to the backing, increasing comfort when walking.

Both loop pile carpets and cut pile carpets can either be glue down or snap-in type. If you select a glue-down carpet, you need special adhesive to glue the carpet down. Installation of this type of carpet is more complicated and usually only preferred by owners of smaller boats.

The snap-in type of carpet is easier to install, especially if you own a large boat. Usually, you only need screws and a snap tool to secure the rug to the floor. Another advantage is since it is non-permanent, it is easier to replace compared to glue-down carpets.

How to select a Boat Carpet

Now that I have shared some of the best products in the market today, you need to know some factors to consider to make the best decision. So here are some of the standard features that would affect your purchase.

Traction or slip resistance is one of the essential features of a marine boat carpet. The last thing you want is an accident because of a slippery carpet. The material used in the carpet backing will determine how slip-resistant it is. Vinyl and rubber are some of the most common materials, and the thicker the backing, the more slip-resistant.

• Mold and Mildew resistance

A carpet that lacks this feature is useless in protecting your boat from rust and molds. Although most boat rugs claim to be mold and mildew resistant, different materials affect the product’s price and efficacy, not to mention maintenance. More expensive carpets require less maintenance and use high-quality materials.

• Installation

Ease of installation is another thing to consider, especially if you plan to install the carpet with minimal help. Quality boat carpet manufacturers have comprehensive manuals and necessary tools like knives or cutters to help you get the job done without professional help.

• Add adhesive if using glue-down mats. Once you have the right size for the section, apply the adhesive evenly and glue the carpet down.

Although all marine carpet is water-resistant, the degree of how much it absorbs water will vary from product to product. You may find a product that isn’t 100% waterproof but still has a low water retention rate. Although it doesn’t repel moisture as much, it dries fast, preventing rotting, mold, and mildew.

Replacing a boat carpet isn’t as easy as it seems. You need to be gentle in removing the old rug so you don’t damage the original flooring. I suggest you stay away from sharp knives and use a putty knife instead to loosen the edges of the old carpet.

Once you have removed the old rug, make sure to remove as much of the adhesive on the floor. You can use sandpaper, lacquer thinner, or even floor cleaners to get the job done.

Yes, an outdoor carpet is a good alternative for a marine carpet, especially if you are on a budget or want to purchase in bulk and use it in other areas of your home.

However, remember that outdoor carpets may not be as resistant to moisture, stain, and fading as marine carpets. You may have to take a closer look at its backing and material to make sure it is durable enough for use on your boat.

There are high-quality boat carpets in your neighborhood hardware store or other stores that sell boat accessories. For more convenience, though, I recommend purchasing one online on websites like Amazon, Home Depot, and Boat Carpet Central. Aside from convenience, you can usually find huge discounts if you are lucky!

Nice thick carpet that looks great when installed. A bit of a mess when cutting and will fray but overall a good look when trimmed properly. Would recommend to others.

Wallcoverings for vessel interiors

Wall panels and headliners make a statement when entering the saloon of a yacht. Much like the color or texture of the walls of your home, wall panels and headliners are items that cannot be overlooked—especially when they start to sag and age. Fresh wall panels truly enhance the overall appearance of any interior, quickly giving a vessel’s cabin an updated look. 

Wall panels offer a visual focal point as well as acoustic tranquility to cabin interiors. The latest vertical and horizontal offerings from a variety of manufacturers are often showcased at international boat shows throughout the year.

Material considerations

A pliable vinyl upholstery fabric with the look and feel of real leather is always a good choice for a headliner or wall panel. An important consideration is whether the final product will include a foam backing. Foam-backed vinyls are easy to clean but will have seams that require covering. We generally use foam-backed materials as headliners or other applications where the material is wrapped around the panel edges and the panels align next to one another.

Be sure to review manufacturer specifications for strength, abrasion resistance, cleaning and maintenance. Quality materials feature topcoat finishes that protect against bacteria and fungus, which is extremely important for marine applications. Manufacturers also offer materials in a multitude of colors and textures to complement boat interiors for a unified look throughout the cabins.

Headliner materials

Headliner fabrics come in a variety of options, including comfortable carpet-type fabrics and the foam-backed vinyls mentioned above.

A “HullBlanket” headliner fabric is a durable, stain-resistant carpet-type material that offers antistatic and moisture-proof properties. This economical material hides irregular hull imperfections and works especially well for vessels under 30 feet. 

Vinyl headliners feature a marine vinyl front with or without a foam backing. Most foam-backed vinyls consist of a 3/16-inch foam adhered to the vinyl face. The foam adds a bit of cushion and helps conceal small imperfections in the hull. It can also be cut away to accommodate protrusions like nuts and bolt heads. Manufacturers now offer foam-backed headliner and perforated headliners in many textures and styles. These vinyl headliners create a smooth appearance and are easily wiped clean. Keep in mind that the edges of foam-backed vinyl should be covered, as they will leave a visible foam edge. Because of this, foam-backed vinyl is a great choice for applications where the seams will be hidden under trim pieces or where the material is wrapped around panel edges.

Installation tools and techniques

Do not underestimate the time and effort needed to prep areas for new surface materials. Be sure to remove all original plywood or any other material prior to installing new materials.

Beyond a general spray adhesive, such as 3M ™ General Trim Adhesive, only a few other materials are needed for installing a headliner or wall panels. Marine vinyl without a foam backing can also be used as a hull liner. Apply the spray adhesive to securely adhere the material to the hull, being careful to avoid bubbling or gaps. This is a one-shot process, so you need to get it right the first time. Like foam-backed vinyl, these products are easy to clean but will also have seams that may require covering. We recommend planning the material layout ahead of time on paper to avoid or limit any seams.

Tools that are lightweight and ergonomically designed with textured, nonslip surfaces make installation easier. Consider tools that include a 45-degree angle to allow for access to tight spaces at close angles. Straightedge tools work well on straight edges for short distances, and a 9-inch “pizza cutter” works well for long runs along either the perimeter or a mid-wall track.

While textile wallcoverings are gaining momentum in the residential and commercial markets, wallcoverings for marine applications remain vinyl-based. Mildew-resistance, water resistance and cleanability are, of course, paramount. “What changes with wallcoverings for marine applications are the patterns,” says Dave Estiri, co-owner of Sea Furniture, Santa Ana, Calif. (www.seafurniture.com). “We’re seeing more bright colors and geometrics right now.”

Marine wallcovering substrates are typically wood, drywall and fiberglass. For a refit or redesign, the old wallpaper should be removed; walls should be scraped and sanded; and then washed and disinfected in preparation for the wallpaper, Estiri says. 

Which primer to use depends on the substrate, according to Spencer Colgan, Tampa Bay Wallpaper Installer, Tampa, Fla. (www.tampabaywallpaperinstaller.com). “Fiberglass would need a different primer that would be more aggressive,” he says. 

Vinyl with foam backing used over wall panels is an option, with a typical thickness ranging from 1/16 inch to 3/4 inch. “This is something you see more in older designs rather than in brand-new ones,” Estiri says. “The thing to note with this application is that after the surface is cleaned and conditioned, the foam with the vinyl needs to be backed with mesh so that everything stays together.”

As with any installation, the foundation of success is using well-made materials and stellar techniques. “You need to know what you’re doing and do it right,” Estiri says. “Make sure everything looks as good in five to 10 years as it does the first day.”

Begin by removing the old carpet and any existing adhesive. Use the utility knife to carefully cut and peel away the old carpet. If there's adhesive residue, a scraper can help remove it. Thoroughly clean the deck to ensure a smooth surface for the new carpet.

Step 3: Inspect the Subfloor

Inspect the subfloor (boat deck) for any damage or rot. Replace any damaged sections with marine-grade plywood. Ensure the subfloor is sturdy and in good condition before proceeding.

Step 4: Measure and Cut

Accurate measurements are crucial for a seamless carpet installation. Measure the dimensions of your boat's deck and transfer these measurements onto the new carpet. Add a few inches for trimming. Use a straightedge and a utility knife to cut the carpet precisely.

Step 5: Apply Adhesive
