Abeking & Rasmussen Heritage
Georg Abeking and Henry Rasmussen opened the doors to the Abeking & Rasmussen shipyard in Lemwerder, Germany, in 1907 and this is where the builder has remained since. The location is ideally suited on the Weser river and is easily accessed today by the Bremen airport. There also are ample motorways and railway connections to access the yard, but when Abeking & Rasmussen opened there, they chose the location for its rural feel, but urban infrastructure and water access.
In 1925, the brand gained its first commercial success as a Henry Rasmussen design garnered much acclaim in the United States. In 1930, Abeking & Rasmussen developed the first-ever Minesweeper and proceeded to produce 250 more of the vessel. In 1936, stemming from top performance by an Abeking & Rasmussen in an international regatta, orders for the brand’s yachts spiked.
By 1963, the firm launched the world’s first welded aluminum hull sailing yacht, GERMANIA IV. She became the star of Germany’s regatta scene and won the Travemuende week. Ten years later Abeking & Rasmussen launched KALAMOUN, the world’s fasted diesel motor yacht. By 1983 the builder completed an exceptionally received refit on AQUARIUS, a 61-meter three-masted sailing yacht. Four years later SILVER SHALIS, the fasted jet-drive yacht in her day was launched by the builder.
In 1995, Abeking & Rasmussen made waves with HETARIOS, a 170-foot (52m) sloop commonly regarded as the last mahogany luxury yacht built. In 2017, Abeking & Rasmussen opened Hanger F. A new extra-extra-large production hanger for yachts up to 152 feet (125m). In 2018 the brand celebrated its 111thyear by delivering its 111thyacht. From their 250 Minesweepers, with the first birthed in 1930, to the Pimm in 1936 —where the performances of their creations caused a spike in worldwide orders, Abeking & Rasmussen had a solid path paved from the start. In 1963, GERMANIA VI, became the primo sailing yacht of the German Regatta scene. Winning the Travemuende week, this premier sailing yacht in the A&K family, attracted much attention with it’s welded aluminum hull. As if these feats weren’t enough to stick to what they’ve been successful at, the builders decided to push the envelope of yachting further—introducing KALAMOUN, the fastest diesel mother yacht worldwide. SILVER SHALIS, in 1983, was known as the fastest jet drive yacht, attracting the customers looking for something that was unusual and yet very familiar from the James Bond movies!
HETAIROS, was a 42m sloop and - as is now - the last mahogany mega yacht built. SEA CLASS was built by the renowned Abeking & Rasmussen shipyard of Germany and later completed a massive refit and hull extension by the finest American shipyard, Delta Marine, at a reported over $13,000,000 with no expenses spared on equipment and interior detail. Lower Deck The Owner's stateroom with centerline king berth is below amidship with entertainment center aft, beautiful his and hers onyx bathroom with centerline steam shower forward. Further aft to port is a queen berth stateroom with expansive desk area and ensuite bath with shower. There are two twin ensuite berth staterooms further aft, one with shower, one with a Jacuzzi. Main Level The Owner's office/library is all the way forward with spectacular windows. There is extensive desk space against the aft bulkhead. A serving pantry is further aft with cross ship access to the crew corridor. The main galley with granite counters and commercial stainless steel appliances including 2 refrigerators, 2 freezers, and alto-sham oven, also has access to the crew corridor and then out to the port side deck. A day head is outboard to starboard. The dining salon is open to the main salon and is aft of the galley, with extensive crystal and table service storage around. The main salon is further aft with entertainment center against the aft bulkhead, L-shaped couches to port around a coffee table and two club chairs opposite. The salon benefits from large windows and beautiful high gloss pear woodwork. The main salon is further aft through two etched glass doors. This is a beautiful room, also finished in high gloss pear wood with couches to port and two game tables, each with four chairs opposite. There is access to the lower deck aft area from the starboard staircase or out to the open aft deck through two sliding glass doors. The forward crew area has a double cabin forward. A bathroom with stall shower is aft to port. Another upper and lower twin crew cabin is to starboard sharing the head to port. An additional crew cabin with upper and lower berths is aft to starboard with ensuite bathroom with stall shower. The crew mess is opposite and a crew entertainment center is inboard. The engine rooms is next aft. Just aft of the engine room are two additional guest staterooms, the very spacious laundry center, and the large lazarette with ample storage for water sports gear and a watertight door out to the swim platform. The open aft deck has a teach table with seating for 8 to starboard, and a settee opposite to port. This deck is covered by the sun deck overhead. There is a spiral staircase to the boat deck and flybridge on the port side. Access to the swim platform is down a central stairway and access to the passarelle is slightly offset to port. This entire area was added during her refit and the running gear was moved aft. The lengthening, rebuild, repower, and refit was completed at Delta Marine, Seattle, under the supervision of Bill Langan.

In 1937 there was something approaching 12m fever in Germany. Walter Rau, owner of a whaling fleet and his friend John T Essberger, owner of a shipping company each ordered a 12m yacht from the famous shipyard of Abeking and Rasmussen in Lemwerder near Bremen. These yachts were to be named Anita and Inga. At the same time Henry Burmester was building another 12m, Ashanti, for himself in his own yard. In the early summer of 1938 both Abeking and Rasmussen yachts were launched just in time to compete in the Kieler Woche. Anita (yard no.3241) received sail no 12G2 and Inga (no.3242) her identical sister, the sail no 12G1. In addition to the two sisterships a 3.6m motorboat tender was delivered. As was usual in those early years neither yacht was fitted with an engine. Construction was Mahogany on forged steel frames. Decks were laid Oregon Pine. The masts were built of Spuce.
As Henry Rasmussen reported at the time: “Anita was launched shortly before the Kieler Woche, where she sailed against Inga and the English 12m Blue Marlin. The English boat went round the buoys like a dinghy but the two German 12s’ with their inexperienced crews were left at the buoys with their sails flapping” At the Kieler Woche in 1939 things were very different. The Sphinx, another 12m built by the A&R yard for Norddeutscher Regatta Verein ranked consistently first. Anita, Inga and Ashanti took turns at 2nd, 3rd and 4th. During the summer of 1939 the German 12s’ sailed a race series near Copenhagen. The coming of WWII stopped all sailing activities. Anita was laid up at A&R and had to wait for better times.
After the war Inga and Sphinx were renamed Westwind and Ostwind and sailed under the flag of the German Navy. 2006 they were sold to private owners. Ashanti burned up in a big fire in the Burmester shipyard. Anita was sailed only once in Kiel. By 1951 she had been re-rigged as a yawl and the interior modified for cruising, but still in the following years she was used on only very few journeys.

68m Abeking & Rasmussen superyacht Aviva completes major refit in France
The 68-metre Abeking & Rasmussen superyacht Aviva has completed a major refit at Palumbo Superyachts ' facilities in Marseille, France. This marks one of the most significant projects undertaken by the yard in the past eight years.
Aviva was commissioned by British businessman and Tottenham Hotspur owner Joe Lewis and delivered as the flagship of the German shipyard in 2007. She was sold to "another experienced owner" in July 2023, with her asking price withheld. Her exterior and interior design is the work of Reymond Langton .
According to Palumbo, the most challenging alteration was the exterior, which received a fresh paintjob to restore "[ Aviva' s] original beauty and increase her value over time." Other works included a complete teak restoration on the exterior decks, refurbished accommodation and an upgraded galley. Particular attention has been paid to renewing the CCTV, AV and security systems, while the navigation systems have also been modernised.
Aviva 's main engines and diesel generators have also received a full overhaul, alongside the servicing of the propellers, hull tanks, forward and aft thrusters and hydraulic systems.

The refit was co-ordinated among the shipyard's engineers, technical specialists, and Aviva 's captain and crew. The superyacht is the predecessor to the distinctive blue-hulled 98.4-metre Aviva , also from Abeking & Rasmussen.
