The Seal 28 was designed by Angus Primrose and built by John Baker between 1976 and 1982, and around 90 of them were built. This is a substantial cruising yacht with masthead rig, lifting ballasted keel; 6 berths with 2 of them in separate aft cabin and a 20 hp diesel, making it also a convincing motor sailor. In need of some TLC and an overall scrub-up a good value boat for someone not afraid to get their hands dirty in turning this into a cracking little family cruiser.

This Seal 28 is a well built fin keel yacht that has been maintained and upgraded throughout her life & is presented in excellent internal condition for her age. She offers a light bright and comparatively spacious saloon & main cabin as well as a separate, but good size aft twin cabin that would be perfect for the children. She has many home comforts including a compact but useful galley and a separate heads compartment & she has been recently re-upholstered & her woodwork has been refurbished. It also has a full canvass cockpit enclosure which can link the aft cabin to the main cabin. She also comes with a refrigerated cool box & her saloon provides a cleverly devised navigation station with chart table and all nav aids close at hand. On deck, she is also well equipped with many features including a fully serviceable set of sails, two Lewmar self-tailing winches.. She also has two cavernous cockpit lockers for storing fenders, warps, canopies etc.
In its most recent life, this Seal 28 has been used as Air B n B accommodation and her condition reflects the high standards required to do this. It was very successful for her Owner and had many bookings in this guise. She is sadly now only offered for sale due to bereavement.

This Seal 28 cruising yacht offers a lot of space, with seven berths for all the family, the highlight being the separate aft cabin that can sleep two, or be used as a great storage space.
My first impressions of this boat is that she is equipped her very well, but needs work to bring her into the here and now.
The exterior needs a bit of a clean, while the interior, whilst large for her size, needs some touches to make her homely again - she has real potential, but is somewhat of a project.
Seal 28s are known for being family cruising boats that fit in a lot of accommodation and we think this one is well worth a look for the price.

Seven berths - the starboard settee comes out to fom a double, the aft cabin and forecabin have infills for doubles, and there's a small single on the port side with a trotter box. The cooker is a Nelson - one of the best!

This Seal 28 for sale with Boatshed Port Solent will make a great family Cruiser, I know this because the family who cruise her have told me! The after cabin is a great asset when the children are young – just fill it with Meccano, Lego and Barbie Dolls and off you go!
To get a 28 foot boat for the asking price, in reasonably good order throughout, you should have to pay a fair amount more!
Her sails are getting a past their sell-by date, but that’s an issue for next season maybe? The engine has only 343 hours on, so there’s plenty of life in the old girl yet!
This yacht has a separate double berth in the stern cabin, twin bunks or a double in the forward cabin and still has room for a double in the saloon, you just need to pull out the infill and hit the sack!

The Seal 28 was designed by Angus Primrose and built by John Baker between 1976 and 1982. Sail numbers were from 1 to 89. This is a substantial cruising yacht with masthead rig, lifting ballasted keels; 6 berths with 2 of them in separate aft cabin and a 20 hp diesel, making it also a convincing motor sailer.
The Seal 850 was a development of the Seal 28. It has the same hull and rig as the 28 but a larger saloon and cockpit instead of the aft cabin; 5 berths; reshaped cabin top and transom hung rudder. This gave the 850 a sleeker look and better performance.
