Buccaneer 18 vs Mutineer 15Have a chance to purchase either a Buccaneer 18 or Mutineer 15. Both Chrysler boats. Can't decide pros and cons of each. They even share regattas! Which would you choose and why? The choice depends on how you want to use the boat. For racing, go with the Buc. And hold on!!!! The boat has a well earned rep for being a handful. And it is FAST!!! That said, its smaller sibling is no slouch. The Mutineer is not the handfull that the Buccaneer is. Of course it's not as fast, and it's tamer nature, IMO, makes it a better daysailer. Especially if you are sailing with kids or non sailing Significant Others. You know, where trying to scare the crap out of them isn't the goal. The class association for the Mutineer seems to be more active, better organized, and all around a better resource. If one of the boats has a more active fleet nearby that would weigh heavily if i was going to race the boat. I have a Mutineer. Easy to single-hand, once set up, I have fit 4 adults in mine (tight squeeze). The Bucc's are 3' longer. There are a few other differences, but basically, they are the same boat, just different sizes. Both share lots of parts. Has anyone ever sailed a Renken 18 or Tangerine 18? I'm just curious to see other peoples opinion of the lil thing. It is my first sloop rigged boat after learning on a sunfish. If anyone has any tips
First built by Salt Marine of Ft Lauderdale FL (USA). Later offered as the SIGMA 18, before the molds were purchased by Renkin, better known as a builder of powerboats. It then became the RENKIN 18.
A very safe and stable sailer, its rig is simple and easy to set up - which also means that it doesn't have the tweaks that a more performance oriented boat would have. It was originally built as a "Tangerine 18" in the late 70s, then Renken bought the mold (s) and made them in '83, only to stop production because they cost too much to build.

I will most likely have her for another 3-5 years before I can get a larger boat for the family. This boat really is a fun little pocket rocket if you sail her aggressively!

Posts: 1. Renken 18 User Manual? Hi, I'm new to the forum and to sailing and just picked up a Renken Tangerine 18 to learn with. Does anyone have a manual that would show how to rig the sails, and any other information about the boat? Thank you in advance! 06-10-2019, 13:07. # 2.
1979 Tangerine 18. This is a real nice trailerable family sailboat. Very stable shoalkeel design with minimal draft yet great stability and less tippy than most daysailors. Perfect for a day at the lake or a sail on the bay. There aren't many trailer-sailors like this one. The best of a keeled fin yet trailerable with a centerboard.
Tangerine 18, 1978. it was the prototype for the Renken 18 production sailboat. Renken produced the R18 throughout the 1980's. Excellent boat for cruising the FL Intercoastal or light sailing on the ocean. Very easy to setup and sail. Comes with very nice 2009 Tohatsu 4 Stroke 3.5 HP engine. Lots of accessories and extras included with the boat.

The Tangerine was sold as a pocket cruiser by the Tangerine Sailboat Company in the late '70's, and was later purchased by the Renken motorboat company to be sold as the Renken 18.
