$600,000 awarded to help turn Randall Preserve into ‘world-class nature park’

State officials awarded a $600,000 grant on Thursday to develop plans for the future preservation of Frank and Joan Randall Preserve.

The 387-acre space just east of the Santa Ana River and north of Pacific Coast Highway is near the borders of Huntington Beach, Newport Beach and Costa Mesa. The former oil-field is considered one of the last undeveloped plots of coastal real estate in Orange County, and is a habitat for burrowing owls, fairy shrimp, peregrine falcons and other wildlife.

“The Preserve is home to more than 18 sensitive, threatened or endangered species, has the significant potential to serve as a buffer for coastal climate-related impacts, and is adjacent to nearby disadvantaged communities ready for passive recreational use on this land,” Melanie Schlotterbeck of the nonprofit Power In Nature’s Southland Regional stated in a news release announcing the award. “This planning grant is a huge win!”

The Banning Ranch property was acquired and set aside for preservation by two nonprofits, the Trust for Public Land and the organization currently known as the Coastal Corridor Alliance, in 2022. The funding awarded by the state’s Wildlife Conservation Board on Thursday will help the Alliance and the preserve’s current title-holder, the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority, plan for the future of the open space.

“It also provides the non-federal match required by the $1 million previously award to the Alliance by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation with support from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration,” according to Schlotterbeck.

The grant contributes to a total of $1.785 million the nonprofits have secured to develop strategies to manage resources, protect beachfront portions of the preserve from erosion and maintain sustainable access to the public.

“Creating a nature preserve in an area with so many rare species requires the best possible plan,” stated Terry Welsh, president of Coastal Corridor Alliance’s board. “The Wildlife Conservation Board grant will help fund the necessary work to design a world-class nature park at Randall Preserve/Genga that allows human access, traditional Tribal practices, and rare and sensitive species to thrive.”

Main Menu What really struck me about this album are the cool guitar sounds creating a plethora of textures and moods. At times ambient, other times quite heavy, there is enough variety here to keep this instrumental album from being repetitive or boring. This is really quite intriguing stuff. The first track “Track 01”, weird name I know, starts with a somber guitar arpeggio before the beat starts, transitioning into clean guitar notes and slightly distorted riffs. I really dig the dynamics in this one. “After A Long Winter” starts out post metal, quite pretty and serene before morphing into heavier riffage and off kilter tempos. The change ups continue making this one of the most progressive tracks here. “Remember This Day And This Night” is another melodic gem, almost dreamy in nature whereas “A Flower” features great chord progressions and a good amount of crunch. There are five more tracks to dig into so rest assured there is lots of good stuff to be found. Flower In My Lung has been another nice find from Russia. Hopefully we will hear more from them soon. Yachty by Nature Yachts Landing I’m on a Boat In all, thanks for your patience, support, understanding and love.  Yachty by Nature has been adding songs and working hard to be back soon.  In addition, we played a private show in Ladera Ranch last Friday and enjoyed the love fest.  In fact, the cul-de-sac party featured some pretty awesome kids dancing their hearts out with full synchronized moves!  Who knew that yacht rock could bring out the fun in our epic dance crew.  It felt amazing to feel alive again and bring smooth music and good vibes to our crowd. Ultimately, music was in the air of south Orange County again.  In fact, even the Ladera buzz on Facebook spread the good word of life coming out of Covid 19.  Music on the streets of Ladera Ranch, how festive.  Cheers to the silver linings!  They must’ve heard Footloose and seen some of the Solid Gold dance crew moves.  Our new tunes were on full display.  And, lemme tell ya, Scotty McYachty and Courtney Cruise’s vocals didn’t disappoint. High Park Taphouse show! In fact, we made it two weeks in a row when the Mission Viejo Connection on Facebook wondered where the great music was coming from.  Well, it was High Park Tap House’s outdoor parking lot concert on March 27.  We had a sold out show and even some die hard fans that camped out on the lawn next to the venue to enjoy our Yachts Landing.  Indeed, the anchor has dropped and at Spring Break 2021, the future is looking better and better. Yachts Landing postponements All in all, it was a rough year of Covid 19.  In fact, the band was slated for shows all over the country last year.  In addition, we scheduled a Lake Arrowhead 4th of July.  Moreso, all the Canyon Clubs and the Rose shows in LA had to be rescheduled.  Worse yet, our Catalina Island show was canceled.  Unfortunately, it appears that we won’t get a date to play in 2021.  But, rest assured, the hottest yacht rock band in the business is posting up new dates and rescheduled shows currently.  New tunes are coming on left and right and hitting the mark.  Southern California’s ORIGINAL yacht rock band is coming back.  Let’s take a look here for the upcoming calendar! Yachts Landing Calendar First of all, we’ve sold out the first shows of 2021: March 17 St. Paddy’s Day sold out for a shamrock of a good time at Black Marlin in Tustin, CA. March 27 we had a SOLD OUT show at High Park taphouse in Mission Viejo, CA.  As you know, the yacht concerts are outside, socially distanced and doing the best we can.  Really looking forward to this rescheduled event and sorry to those who couldn’t get tickets! April 17 at OC Tavern is also SOLD OUT and a huge night for our San Clemente peeps.  This parking lot already has our people traveling down from Los Angeles to check us out!  Ahoy, indeed. April 24 Private Country Club Party in Palm Desert.  In fact, we wish you were invited! May 1 Sea Legs in Huntington Beach .  We are back to the beach and a strong return to our favorite beach side venue!  Mayday, mayday, we’ll be on a crash course for adventure as this Love Boat will surely float your boat. May 7 Lake Havasu , the S.S. Yachty by Nature will see yachts landing out on the river.  It’s a small venue so get their early!  free show. Yachty JUNE 2021 June 12 we penciled in a show but we can’t post until we get full confirmation.  Stay tuned. June 19 private wedding in San Clemente June 25 Campus Jax in Newport Beach and a return to the friendly confines.
