Accommodations

The head (Jabsco manual with Acuguage tank monitoring system)  and shower is found where a V-berth cabin would normally be located, forward of the berth. 

 The main salon features a port side dinette with galley to starboard . 

The third cabin (or quarter berth) has been converted into a garage/storage area. Custom storage/parts boxes (removable) have been incorporated outboard extending the length of the berth.

The aft head has also been converted, now a pantry and houses the clothes washing machine and the Cruise RO water maker. The aft holding tank was removed to provide for more storage.

House batteries are charged from four sources: engine alternator, wind turbine, solar panels, and when on shore power, through the battery charger. Individual meters monitor input current from each charging type. The Link 10 monitors battery usage. When off shore power the inverter is switched into the circuit and 115 volts is supplied through the batteries.

The Catalina 42 has earned an international reputation as the leader in her class. By leading in design, cruising performance, and comfort, the Catalina 42 has become the first choice of sailors worldwide. The hull of the 42 MkII is high volume, and easily driven, with a fine entry, firm midship section, and smooth run aft terminating in a modified reverse transom with an uncommonly spacious and functional boarding platform. A long, horizontal skeg runs aft between 4 ft 10 inch drafted wing keel and the rudder for sure tracking. The rudder is large and balanced, ensuring control in all conditions. The Catalina 42 MkII deck was designed with shorthanded sailing in mind. All the halyards, the mainsheet and the single line main reefing controls are led to the cockpit, and placed to be operated from under the dodger when necessary. The wide weather decks and inboard shroud base make passage forward easy and secure. The bow roller and below deck electric windlass greatly simplify anchor handling. Both the two and three cabin arrangements feature varnished teak joinery and ash side paneling on the hull. Excellent light and ventilation are provided naturally from aluminum-framed opening hatches and ports.

'Wanuskewin' , a Catalina 42 MkII for Sale by Owner, Dave Viglierchio

'Wanuskewin', my Catalina 42 MkII is set-up for extended cruising and is ready to go just as soon as you are. Back in the USA after a 4-year adventure along the Pacific coasts of North America, Central America, and the Caribbean, this sought-after hull design has proven her sailing worth. Currently in the Lucaya, Grand Bahama, third season in the Bahamas.

A fantastic, early example of the very popular Catalina 42 MKII. The Nelson-Marek hull design, often used for racing, she is clean and has been very well maintained. Her large, welcoming cockpit is great for entertaining and comfort under way. Down below, the 2 cabin, Pullman berth configuration is perfect for guests, and a large convertible dining settee completes comfortable sleeping arrangements for 6.

She is a great sailing vessel both on and off the wind, so much so that you will find yourself sailing and enjoying the ocean while others have switched on the diesel (all of our buddy-boating friends envied us!).

Set up for short-handed sailing, all controls are led aft to the cockpit, where it is easy to trim and reef. (Our single line slab reefing with the Dutchman sail management system is super easy to us, and never jams like roller furling mains do).

With a deep fin keel and full elliptical spade rudder, the yacht gives her sailors the advantage of steady tracking under sail (two finger steering!) and with extra buoyancy aft, even though the transom is open walk-through style, she stays dry, even in large following seas.

A smooth running, dependable and fuel efficient 62 HP Yanmar turbo diesel (only one of two C-42 turbos known) adds further peace of mind. A very special engine usually not found in the C-42. Serviced regularly.

Hauled each of the last 4 years for bottom paint touch up, prop overhaul, cutlass bearing replacement and full compound, polish and wax.

Terney, Russia

Terney is an urban-type settlement in the north-east of Primorsky Krai, the administrative center of Terneisky district.

How to get there

The gateway to the Sikhote-Alin Nature Reserve is the village of Terney on the Pacific coast - one of the northernmost coastal villages of the Primorsky Territory. A good road leads from Vladivostok to Terney through Dalnegorsk. Buses run twice a day, the journey takes 14 hours. A taxi is faster and much more expensive, the distance along the road is 690 km, and this is a mountain road with numerous passes. If you are coming from the north, from Khabarovsk, come to Dalnegorsk or Arsenyev and there change to a bus to Terney. There are airports in the villages of Plastun and Terney. Regular passenger flights to Terney from Kavalerovo and Amgu, as well as Plastun-Kavalerovo are operated by Aurora Airlines (a subsidiary of Aeroflot in the Far East). There is no sea communication at all.
