Brought to life by Evo Yacht’s flair for innovation, EVO V8 is a 24-metre yacht that defines a new market segment

Evo V8, the new flagship of Blue Emme Yachts brand Evo Yachts, is designed by Valerio Rivellini and receives its world premiere at the Cannes Yachting Festival 2021.

The creation of this model, featuring clean lines and a refined design, was driven by the ambition to represent the ideal point of intersection between insights from the world of both sailing and motor yachts, introducing a new onboard lifestyle concept.

The designer and shipyard worked in total synergy to create a yacht combining both advanced technology and elegance, proposing such a unique style of navigation that no market segment exists today for this project.

The interior layout can be fully customized. The first unit has spacious exteriors, a large lounge with dining area surrounded by hi-tech glazed surfaces that partially open, three cabins, four helm stations and two separate routes to the Main Deck.

Evo V8 is the new flagship of Evo Yachts , the revolutionary brand owned by Blu Emme Yachts. 24 meters in length, Evo V8 is the first yacht in the V line , which is designed to cater for a wide variety of uses and proposes a cruising concept at the point of intersection between the worlds of sailing and motor yachts. The yacht’s designer Valerio Rivellini explains the origins of the project: “Usually motor yacht lovers begin their holiday when they reach their destination, either at anchor off the coast or in port, whereas sailing yacht enthusiasts start their holiday right away, as soon as they step on board. Evo V8 combines the speed of a motor yacht with the comfort and relaxation of sailing”.

Created to offer multiple possibilities of use , Evo V8 is a boat designed to excite and amaze, like a Russian matryoshka doll hiding multiple nested surprises.

The beach area: a terrace at the water’s edge

Making its debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival, the first unit has an innovative layout, not least in terms of the beach area, just 70 cm above the waterline, which enjoys seamless contact with nature and an unbroken 180-degree panoramic view thanks to hull sides that extend outwards. The brand’s trademark Xtensions bulwarks system isn’t used in this case to increase the available surface area, which is already huge, but rather to remove all visual impediments and produce an unbroken view of the water, not to mention a pleasant breeze that makes the deck an enjoyable place to be at any time of day.

The meticulous design process has made it possible to hide all the technical elements, including the tender and its recovery winch, so freeing up every inch of available deck space.

Three steps connect the beach area with a low lounge space that precedes the master stateroom and has big sliding glass doors, allowing it to perform two functions: an open air patio offering shelter from the wind and sun, and a private living area for the owner. The owner can close the door connecting the lounge and the exterior deck to create an exclusive 12-meter-long open space suite offering total privacy both during the day and at night. This original solution enables owners to reserve more than a third of the boat for their exclusive use, even when there are other guests on board. Confirming the versatility of this setting, the furnishings and decor share some of the same features as both the exterior deck and the master suite.

The perfect balance between sail and motor

A special feature of the layout, and a key result of the interplay between spaces typical of both sailing and motor yachts, is the inclusion of no less than four helm stations on board. The first station forward of the main salon on the Main Deck and the second on the Roof Top, fitted with a retractable steering console, are joined by two yacht wheels on the port and starboard sides of the Main Deck. With a clear reference to the world of sailor yachts, they are an invitation to enjoy cruising in close contact with the water, as well as being very practical when manoeuvring. The space between the two helm wheels is free, but the side seats and the couches around them invite socialisation between the driver and their guests, as is the case on a sailing yach t.

Roof Top: an elegant surprise terrace The Roof Top, a true innovation in this segment, is designed to create a surprise effect. The challenge for the designer was to give it a flat profile so that it can’t immediately be seen. Only reached by means of a retractable hydraulic ladder, with telescopic handrails that extend to protect guests when

cruising, it is equipped with a retractable helm console to drive the yacht without having to leave the Roof Top. Inspired by the exclusive terraces of modern penthouses, the Roof Top – with four sun loungers, a shower and a refrigerator – is the ideal setting both for an aperitif at sundown and secluded relaxation during the day.

External living areas designed for comfort and conviviality

The design process put a sharp focus on the concept of conviviality, borrowed from the experience of sailing yachts. As a result, the living area on the Main Deck forms part of the same whole, with the two yacht wheels on either side and the helm station on the Roof Top.

The bow area on the Main Deck features a comfortable C-shaped sofa, with a retractable central table that can be transformed into a sun lounger shaded by a sail-shaped awning. True to its calling as a convertible yacht full of surprises, guests will soon discover that hidden beneath this sofa is a plunge pool in which to cool off.

A fully customizable interior layout

The shipyard is recognised as offering owners the chance to fully customise their yachts’ layout and Evo V8 is no exception. This first unit has a layout with three cabins for seven guests, plus a fourth cabin for the crew of two, and a comfortable day area on the main deck. The Main Deck is connected to the Lower Deck by two stairways designed to separate guest and crew flows. It contains a big panoramic lounge with a dining area, surrounded by large windows that partially open, emphasising contact with the outside world and the affinity of the V8 with the open concept, as well as making it suited to owners who don’t like air conditioning. The glass is also coated with special blackout films containing LCD crystals that reflect the images from a high-quality projector with the same resolution as a 4K screen. The juxtaposition of the dark Noce Canaletto floor, the pale-coloured ceiling and the glazing around the entire lounge area conjures up the idea of a suspended and airy setting. In the bow area, a hi-tech panoramic helm station (one of four on the yacht) completes the interior layout on this deck.

The Lower Deck contains three cabins sleeping seven, as well as a crew cabin and the galley.

As mentioned, the spacious owner’s suite in the bow, designed almost as a separate space, echoes the use of wood and decorations in the exteriors, fostering a sense of continuity with the large outdoor lounge space. The classical-style furnishings favour pale colour shades, with a texture formed of hexagons mixed with squares on the floors and some of the wall panels. The palette of white colours, nubuck and brass can be found throughout the boat, contributing to an atmosphere characterised by a sophisticated but by no means showy elegance. In the choice of decor, Rivellini again drew inspiration from the world of sailing yachts, re-proposing their pared down style and the simplicity of the fabrics and woods they use, like the teak with maple stripes shared by both this cabin and the lounge area.

Engine room and toys

The Volvo Penta IPS 1350 engines deliver a top speed of 24 knots, with a cruising speed of 20 knots and a range of 400 miles. The carefully hidden storage areas contain not only the 3.4-metre tender, but also a jet ski, a sea bob and an electric scooter. Evo V8 is a such a totally unique yacht that it is hard to categorise. It stands apart from all the models currently available on the market, successfully creating a new market segment of yachts that combine the latest construction techniques with an innovative interpretation of the life at sea.

Riding the Waves of Elegance: A Deeper Dive into Evo Yachts V8

In the heart of Blu Emme’s Naples shipyard, a beacon of cutting-edge design emerges—the Evo Yachts V8. A year after the sensational Evo R6 Open, this 78ft motoryacht, crafted by the visionary Valerio Rivellini, not only captivates with its razor-sharp aesthetics but introduces a wave of pioneering features that redefine luxury on the open seas.

Our journey began in La Spezia, where the unfolding aft bulwarks unveiled hidden treasures—a tender stowage on the port side and a substantial crane on the starboard, ready to suspend a parasol for moments of shaded luxury. The hydraulic bathing platform astern beckoned for effortless boarding, seamlessly extending the cockpit for unparalleled relaxation.

Venturing forward, the bow revealed a secluded haven, while a surprise rooftop, featuring a small electronic helm station, offered panoramic views on sun-drenched days. Rivellini humorously dubbed it a “rooftop,” emphasizing its exclusivity for fair weather.

A Symphony of Comfort and Innovation: Exploring the Evo V8's Interior

Stepping inside, the saloon greeted us with an attractive and comfortable space, complemented by vertical windows providing superb visibility and a breath of fresh air when opened. Noteworthy was the smart glass on the aft window, transforming into a cinema screen for an unparalleled viewing experience.

The customizable layout of our review showcased an agreeable VIP cabin, a cozy twin, and a spectacular midships owner’s suite boasting an aft-facing lounge—a nod to the innovative designs of Bluegame’s BGX models, as acknowledged by Rivellini.

Despite a €4 million price tag, the Evo V8 faced scrutiny during our review for finishing details, promptly addressed by the shipyard. The yacht features four helm stations, emphasizing a cruising concept at the intersection of sailing and motor yachts.

Notable are the wing helm stations equipped with sailboat-style carbon wheels, emphasizing the sailing influence. The hull, while not as high-powered as its name suggests, impressed with a top speed of 21 knots, powered by Twin 1,000hp Volvo D13 IPS 1350 engines.

Our sea trial left us with a blend of awe and critique, akin to our experience with the Evo R6. The Evo V8 boasts captivating concepts with outstanding ideas, yet grapples with refinement in certain aspects. Blu Emme’s courage in endorsing a young designer’s vision and navigating risks in the competitive market is commendable.

After a 2020 of unexpected obstacles, the Mercuri brothers’ Blu Emme Yachts shipyard, based in Naples where Evo Yachts are built, has rapidly bounced backed and organized itself for 2021 with new enthusiasm and a growth plan based on major investments and a broader offering.

Despite the lockdown restrictions and mobility problems, Blu Emme Yachts closed its financial year with turnover up 300%, repeating the success of the previous year. And thanks to a thorough re-organization of work spaces and procedures, the Yard managed to keep its launch plan on schedule and deliver four new yachts when production activity was resumed. Another three were delivered later in the year.

Blu Emme Yachts Sales Manager Maurizio Cozzani has spoken about the Yard’s response to the new challenges, which involved some creative solutions: “We’re adapting to new needs, meaning that on one hand we’re finding new ways to interact with clients, studying new solutions with them to ensure they get the full experience of choosing and buying, and on the other we’re investing heavily in infrastructure, equipment and human resources to achieve even more effective management of production processes and control procedures”.

In the first few weeks of the year, the Yard has been expanding (from 1,500 to 4,000 square metres) and increasing the capacity of its production facility, with a new painting station and a new after-sales area. But there have been significant new developments in its offering too.

A new model is currently being designed to extend the R range, while the T line of fully customizable tenders will also be growing. But above all, the next few months will see the launch of the first Velar 78, an innovative 24 metre yacht, set to be the Yard’s new flagship. From what little has so far been disclosed about it, it seems certain that the yacht will “make a big impact with its alternative design, a departure from previous models, and the numerous technological innovations featured on board”.

Blu Emme Yachts’ growth strategy also provides for a strengthening of its international dealership network with new partners and service centres. It has always been the Yard’s policy to prioritize owners’ needs by offering full and immediate after-sales service, which is why partnerships have been formed with service centres in all the areas where Blu Emme Yachts navigate. So, in addition to those already operating in the Balearic Islands, Portugal, USA, Greece and Russia, new agreements will be reached in the coming months to open centres serving the coasts of Croatia and Slovenia in the Adriatic.

With Evo V8, they have showcased the construction capabilities, attention to detail, and drive for innovation that have been a feature of Blu Emme Yachts right from the outset.

The most eagerly awaited arrivals this season include the new 24-metre model, which has a refined minimalist design and is set to amaze the market with its hi-tech content and original ideas. EVO YACHTS: ALWAYS INNOVATIVE

blue emme yachts

Back in 2013, Italy’s successful Mercuri brothers founded Blue Emme Yachts. It was the logical step for the entrepreneurs, as they had already been working in the yachting industry, firstly as refitters, before collaborating with major shipyards in the production process.

The idea for Evo Yachts came 12 months later after a meeting with the Neapolitan yacht designer Valerio Rivellini. Having worked on a number of engineering and industrial design projects away from the yachting industry, Rivellini’s ideas helped shape the first Evo, the now-famous Evo 43 ‘Transformer’.

This yacht, with its extendable aft area and fold-out stern ‘XTension’ was a revelation and a led the way for Evo to create a range of innovative yachts, including the T2, T3, R4, R6 and now, the 23-metre V8.

Beam: 7,17m
Draught: 1,50 m
Displacement: 64t
Engines: Volvo Penta IPS 1350

The Evo V8 is the first yacht in the shipyard’s V-Line. Taking its place as the flagship of the Evo range, this innovative new craft has the space of a superyacht and the usability of a dayboat. Once again, Valerio Rivellini has collaborated with Evo to create a memorable design, one which intrigues from bow to stern.

TRANSFORMABLE

Just like the ‘classic’ Evos, the V8 also transforms. At anchor, the aft deck’s bulwarks drop down to sea level, creating a vast beach club, which can be decked out with a range of soft furniture.

A lower lounge space is just three steps down from the beach club and features ample seating. A glass door leads to the master cabin – a bright, open space, featuring large windows and a soft pastel colourway. Combining the two spaces creates a 12 metre long suite for the Owner to enjoy, and what better way to wake up, then jumping out of bed and heading a few steps to the beach club.

As the V8s layout is customisable, the first unit features three cabins for seven guests, plus a fourth cabin for the crew of two, and a comfortable day area on the main deck.

The main deck itself begins with the cockpit, however, this is no ordinary lounge area. To port and starboard are two of the V8’s four helms. These large wheels are inspired by sailing yachts and add a unique style to the cockpit design – they also happen to be extremely versatile when manoeuvring.

Head inside the main salon and you’ll find a bright airy lounge with commanding views of the sea. The huge windows are perfect not only for the guests, but also for the captain, as the V8’s main helm station is forward.

From the marina, the V8 looks like a trawler style yacht, however, it is in fact technically a flybridge. The cockpit’s retractable ladder leads up to the roof, which features four sunpads and a helm with joystick control and a mini dashboard. Low line railings add to the low profile look, making the V8 a genuine SUV of the sea.

Valerio Rivellini and the Evo team have created yet another standout yacht. From its innovative beach club and aft master cabin, to its wonderful sailing-style helm wheels and low profile sun deck, the Evo V8 oozes fine detailing. A 400 nautical mile range courtesy of its twin Volvo Penta IPS 1350 set up seals the deal.

Shhh! Ohtani chase kept quiet by design

Blue jays stay tightlipped in pursuit, while dodgers manager admits to their meeting.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Silence is golden and secrecy is sublime.

Standing in the eye of the biggest, boldest pursuit in franchise history, the Blue Jays aren’t saying a word. Even the name “ Shohei Ohtani ” is spoken carefully, each syllable tiptoeing gently to the next.

Don’t rock the boat. Don’t wake the baby.

The secrecy with which baseball’s brightest star lives his life has taken over his free agency, which is bubbling to a boil here at the Winter Meetings. Earlier this offseason, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported that it would be “held against” potential suitors if news leaked that he’d visited a specific team.

Well, it’s happening.

Every good drama has a shocking confession, and this one came from Dodgers manager Dave Roberts on Tuesday afternoon, admitting that he and members of Los Angeles’ front office had met with Ohtani in recent days. It all went very well, the veteran manager thought, and besides, the news would get out eventually.

“Clearly,” Roberts said, “ Shohei is our top priority .”

This was a wailing siren through the silence, because even following reports that Ohtani had toured Toronto’s training facilities in Dunedin, Fla., over the weekend, the Blue Jays refused to give that fire any oxygen, instead letting it live as a detail and nothing more.

Soon after Roberts dropped that nugget, though, Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes stood before a throng of cameras -- less than 50 feet from Blue Jays GM Ross Atkins doing the same -- and struck a much different tone. Gomes acknowledged the comment made by his manager, said he was surprised that it was made and went no further. No comments on Ohtani, no comments on a meeting that may or may not have happened.

That toothpaste isn’t going back in the tube.

Across the room, Atkins spoke vaguely, dancing in the shadows between questions. It’s the same approach he took Monday, when his in-person media availability was suddenly shifted to Zoom , where the GM was cryptic with details as he sat in front of a blank, white wall, refusing to answer where in the world he was.

“Everything that we’re doing to make the team better, to the extent that we will keep private, we will do,” Atkins said. “Meetings that occur, don’t occur, I’m not going to get into the specifics of.”

It’s remarkable to watch this happen in real time, a big league GM sidestepping questions not as standard practice, but as an act of strategy that fans are suddenly praising. There’s an elephant in the room, but Atkins will not confirm whether elephants do or do not exist.

“There’s an incredible amount of energy, an incredible amount of buzz around the game and around several potential opportunities, certainly one that is historic, potentially,” Atkins said.

Atkins is built for this game. He’s the Shohei Ohtani of secrecy.

The Blue Jays’ GM went as far as saying that they are “fortunate to be one that’s being considered,” but offered no details about the reported visit to the club’s player development complex over the weekend.

Manager John Schneider did the same, saying “we meet with lots of players” and sticking to the script throughout his media availability. When a reporter joked that Schneider looked tanned when asking about his whereabouts and involvement in said meeting, Schneider just cracked another smile.

“I live in Florida,” he said.

The logic and logistics of it all point toward a decision coming soon from Ohtani. The Blue Jays and Dodgers are clearly among the front-runners here, and while it’s unclear what impact Roberts’ revelation and recent reports will have on Ohtani’s decision, these two clubs are clearly involved in the final sprint. Others, including the Giants, Cubs and Angels, have also widely been linked to this historic chase.

When this news breaks, the landscape of Major League Baseball will tilt in an instant. Until then, it’s one of the biggest secrets in baseball history and the Blue Jays aren’t making a sound.
