With a beam a hair over 98 feet, the vessel’s displacement would be roughly 5,000 GT (about the same as a 394-foot superyacht ). The spacious interior layout could be fully customized to the new owner, naturally. Waugh’s eponymous studio envisions a giant owner’s suite measuring 66 feet wide, 98 feet long, and 10 feet high. It would essentially be bigger than the average N.Y.C. apartment. The crew quarters and technical areas could be housed in the sponsons and outer hulls to ensure the main hull is reserved exclusively for guests. Each deck has a fully enclosable exterior area, too, which gives you even more privacy and protection from the elements.
Decadence also has a designated space for two 46-foot tenders by Skyline Yachts: one with an open deck and one with a fully enclosed cabin. The runabouts can shuttle seafarers to the shore when needed. Speaking of the shore, Waugh says the Decadence can be docked out in the open pretty much anywhere as her sturdy design eliminates the need for shelter.
Although it’s not clear when (or if) Decadence will hit the seas, Waugh and his team are currently working on another 328-foot-plus vessel. Commissioned by an American tech billionaire, the megayacht is currently in the engineering phase at Dorries Yachts in Bremen, Germany. It is expected to hit the seas in 2025. Let’s hope Decadence gets built next.

Decadence, the superyacht catamaran with the look of a classic car
This week, designer Andy Waugh presented a concept that is, to say the least, baffling. It's an 80 m-long catamaran inspired by the cars and aviation of the 1920s.
A shell specially developed for the concept
The Decadence catamaran is the brainchild of designer Andy Waugh, who drew inspiration from the design and technological advances of 1920s car and aircraft designs. The result is a catamaran 80 m long and 30 m wide, with the look of a vintage car . The concept is based on a special hull design called SWATH. Cylindrical, submerged floats are attached to the above-water part of the boat by four lateral structures reminiscent of car wheels. Andy Waugh's design reduces rolling and pitching movements, for greater stability and cruising comfort
A flexible layout
With its spacious dimensions, Decadence boasts unique interior layouts. For example, the owner's suite could be huge, with a width of 20 m, a length of 30 m and a headroom of 3 m. Each deck also has areas that can be closed off from the outside, offering the owner privacy and protection from the elements. Crew and technical areas are located in the submerged hulls to leave more space in the main hull for guests. Hidden inside the cylindrical hulls, inflatable sails can be deployed to optimize the catamaran's propulsion .
A very stable catamaran
One of Décadence's design challenges was its unusual dimensions, making it difficult to moor in a harbor. But the designer has found several ways to solve this problem. He explains that, thanks to its great stability , the yacht may not need to find shelter from the elements. It can list, but retain its balance to avoid capsizing .
A new propulsion system
The Decadence catamaran also includes space for two 14 m chase boat tenders, which can be deployed and used as luxury shuttles to shore. These tenders are available as open hulls or with cabins offering a high level of comfort. Andy Waugh plans to equip the yacht with a new propulsion system in the cylindrical hulls, to reduce energy consumption by around 30% and therefore less frequent refuelling.

Catamaran Superyacht: 1920s Style Speed Appeal
Be gatsby-chic at the grand prix.
If you’re a fan of 1920s car design and want to make a statement at the Monaco Grand Prix, or you wish you could live like a Bond villain on the high seas, Andy Waugh Yacht Design has the answer. “Yes, please!”
Named the Decadence, this 80-meter, or 262-foot catamaran concept is inspired by the automotive and aeronautical advancements from the 1920s. It bears a resemblance to an Auburn Speedster or the “Count Trossi” 1930 Mercedes-Benz SSK. However, according to the design firm, it “exemplifies the potential of the SWATH hull form,” which is a concept of small-waterplane-area-twin-hull ships.
The design of this catamaran is based on two submerged cylindrical hulls connected to a central body by “stilts” with a small cross-section. This design provides several advantages, such as a 70 percent reduction in pitch and roll movements compared to a traditional yacht, resulting in increased comfort and safety. Additionally, the firm stated that this design offers “unique and exciting aesthetic possibilities yet to be fully realized in the luxury superyacht sector.”
The Decadence yacht features an amazing beam of 30m or 100ft coupled with plenty of room both in and out. With the two sponsons, or outer hulls, allowing for further utility of the ship, crew members or more technical areas could be set up. The designers have put a lot of thought into this project as can be seen in the renderings of it due to features like retractable or inflatable sails which will potentially obtain more wind power. Its primary propulsion system looks to be radical and state-of-the-art too as it can provide energy savings of up to 30%.
The main issue with the design of the Decadence is its wide beam, which makes it hard to maneuver in the tight spaces of many marinas or locate an appropriate berth. Nevertheless, the company insists that the size and steadiness of the SWATH hull “negates the necessity to shelter from adverse weather conditions.” Furthermore, this superyacht has the capability to carry two tenders, measuring up to 45 feet in length, which can be used to transport people and cargo to and from the shore.
Andy Waugh Yacht Design is renowned for creating luxurious vessels that push the limits of the superyacht industry. Nevertheless, their boattail speedster concept ‘Decadence’ could be labelled as their most daring innovation to date. Not only would it constitute an even bolder expression of wealth than exhibiting a Ferrari F40 on your boat during the Monaco Grand Prix, but this design would be a resounding symbol wherever it glided around.

Jaw-dropping 260-foot-long superyacht with design based on iconic race car unveiled by tech billionaire

START your engines - a jaw-dropping new superyacht is based on a 1920s racing car.
London -based Andy Waugh Yacht Design say their 80m Decadence concept takes "inspiration from the extraordinary automotive and aeronautical advances of the era."
The company, which is also working on a new-build commission for an American tech billionaire, believes the design "embodies the spirit" of the time.
The vessel is a small waterplane area twin hull, or SWATH, which is a catamaran design that minimizes hull cross-section area at the sea's surface.
Andy Waugh explains: "Her SWATH configuration opens up a plethora of new possibilities for creative interior layouts and spaces, for example, the owner's suite could be 20m wide, 30m long and have 3m ceiling heights."
SWATH vessels also have a stability advantage and Decadence could achieve "a reduction in pitch and roll movements of around 70 percent over a conventional monohull, vastly improving both comfort and safety onboard."

Each deck has fully enclosable exterior areas providing the owner with numerous options concerning privacy and weather protection.
The design has a built-in capacity for two 14m chase-boat tenders by Skyline Yachts, one with an open deck and one with a fully enclosed cabin.
"These can be used as luxury shuttles to shore with enhanced capacity and comfort over conventional limo tenders," says Andy.
The vessel also includes a radical new propulsion system which, when combined with its slender hulls, Waugh claims should reduce energy use by around 30 percent, thereby minimizing refueling frequency.

Crew areas and technical spaces could be consigned to the sponsons, the projections on the side of the boat, and submerged hulls creating an incredible blank canvas of space for the guests in the main body.
Andy Waugh Yacht Design say their other project, for the tech billionaire, is a 100m+ vessel currently in the engineering phase at Dorries Yachts in Bremen, Germany .
No estimated cost for the Decadence has been announced.

It looks like a giant seagoing vintage sports car.
Pictures reveal a stunning new £300million (€350million/$376million) catamaran called 'Decadence' that 'embodies the spirit of the 1920s, taking inspiration from the extraordinary automotive and aeronautical advances of the era'.
One of the cars that inspired the designer, London-based Andy Waugh , was an Auburn Boattail Speedster, a U.S model from the 1920s and 30s.
Four giant tear-shaped wings, known as 'sponsons' in boat-design-speak, give Decadence the appearance of having 'wheels', with crew able to deploy huge inflatable wing sails from these to boost performance and help reduce energy use 'by around 30 per cent'.
And sports-car stability of the 80m- (262ft) long, 30m- (98ft) wide catamaran comes courtesy of submerged cylindrical hulls, which give her 'a reduction in pitch and roll movement of around 70 per cent over a conventional monohull'.

What's more, crew areas and technical equipment can be housed in the sponsons and the submerged hulls – the latter making Decadence a SWATH, or 'small-waterplane-area-twin-hull' vessel – which means more space for guest features.
Waugh, who runs the firm Andy Waugh Yacht Design, said: 'Her SWATH configuration opens up a plethora of new possibilities for creative interior layouts and spaces, for example the owner's suite could be 20m (66ft) wide, 30m (98ft) long and have three-metre (10ft) ceiling heights.'
The design also allows space for two 14m (46ft) chase-boat tenders by Skyline Yachts - one with an open deck and one with a fully enclosed cabin.

The vessel's sails, which when 'combined with the slender hull' should help reduce energy use by around 30 per cent
This unique vessel doesn’t come cheap – it’s estimated it would cost between £214million (€250million) and £300million (€350million) to build
The designer says of the tenders: 'These can be used as luxury shuttles to shore with enhanced capacity and comfort over conventional limo tenders.'
'Decadence' is just a concept at the minute, though Waugh notes that it's possible to go ahead with construction if a prospective buyer has the budget – between £214million (€250million/$268million) and £300million (€350million).
It's thought it would take three to four years to construct the superyacht, which would weigh around 5,000 gross tons.
Waugh graduated from the prestigious Transport Design course at Coventry University and previously worked at London's H2 Yacht Design firm. His first major project was the award-winning Meya Meya superyacht and he has worked on vessels as large as nearly 400ft (122m).
His firm is currently working on a new-build commission for an American tech billionaire at Dorries Yachts in Bremen, Germany.

Decadence is a 264-foot Catamaran Yacht Concept Inspired By 1920s Racing Automobiles
Andy Waugh’s new outrageous concept is a 264-foot Catamaran yacht concept inspired by racing automobile designs from the 1920s era. At first glance, one can clearly see where the inspiration comes from, the entire vessel looks like a giant vintage automobile afloat on the water.
Image: Andy Waugh Yacht Design
Aptly named Decadence , the vessel captures the essence of 1920’s motor racing with its eccentric design features. The non-conventional design features a specially designed hull known as SWATH. Cylindrical, submerged floats are attached to the above-water part of the boat by four lateral structures that resemble automobile wheels.
The design offers excellent stability and cruising comfort by reducing rolling and pitching movements. With its spacious dimensions, Decadence has enough space for a massive owner’s suite with each deck able to be closed off from the outside. A feature that offers privacy and protection from the elements. There is also space for two chase boat tenders at the rear of the vessel.
Crew areas are in the submerged hulls while the main hull above water is reserved for guests and entertainment. Within the cylindrical hulls resembling wheels are retractable sails that can be deployed to optimize propulsion.
Active propulsion is yet to be determined but Waugh plans to equip the Decadence yacht with a new propulsion system that will be fitted in the cylindrical hulls, to reduce energy consumption.
Decadence is just a concept, though Waugh hopes to find a prospective buyer with a budget of around $268 million that will fund the construction of the vessel. If a millionaire prospect is willing to invest, construction will take approximately four years to complete.
