This custom yacht comes with bulletproof windows and an interior swanky enough to warrant them — take a closer look

Yacht designs, from the layperson's perspective, often fit into the mold of "anything you might find along the shores of Monaco." But this yacht? It's more fit for a high-class spy movie.

Mazu Yachts recently unveiled its Mazu 82, a menacing 80-footer that could easily be a prop in the next Bond flick. It shuns the bright palette and curvy lines of most yachts, and instead embraces a dark-grey color scheme and lots of aggressive angles. 

Not to mention, it features bulletproof glass, ample outdoor seating, and a swanky, bespoke interior full of custom-built furniture.

Meet the Mazu 82, the latest creation from Turkish boatbuilder Mazu Yachts.

Sporting a sleek, mean look straight out of "Mission: Impossible," the yacht looks like it could easily be concealing an illicit shipment of plutonium or several million dollars in cash.

Although it's unlikely you'd find any death lasers on board, the 80-foot yacht does have at least one feature befitting of a supervillain.

Mazu Yachts says it outfitted the vessel — which was commissioned by an unnamed buyer — with bulletproof glass windows that are nearly an inch thick.

You certainly don't need to be evading James Bond or Ethan Hunt for armored glass to be a smart buy.

Plenty of wealthy folks invest in bulletproofing on land, too — from their daily cars to their chauffeured SUVs.

Mazu’s New Flagship 82

Mazu Yachts in Turkey has delivered Hull No.1 of its flagship 82-footer.

The Mazu 82 is powered with triple 1,000 hp Volvo Penta IPS1350 diesels, which provide a 40-knot top-end speed and a 33-knot cruise speed, according to the builder. Mazu also reports about a 400-nautical-mile range at cruise speed.

The yacht’s sporty performance is aided, in part, to its carbon-composite sandwich construction, which helps keep the yacht’s displacement at around 110,000 pounds. The Mazu 82 also has a deep-V hull form with 19 degrees deadrise at the transom and 28 degrees at the bow.

“The hull lines of the new Mazu 82 were designed in-house to provide a perfect balance between top speed, seakeeping capability and fuel efficiency,” said Halit Yukay, lead designer and CEO of Mazu Yachts in a statement.

The Mazu 82′s profile is sinewy and linear creating sharp, well-defined lines. Cut-down bulwarks amidships enable ocean vistas from the salon. Hull-side glass helps bring in light and those salty views to the three staterooms belowdecks as well. The glass superstructure enables nearly 360-degree views from the helm and salon. The builder says the windshield is tempered and laminated, and “bulletproof.”

One of the Mazu 82′s custom features for this owner is “terraced steps” from the cockpit to the swim platform. The design allowed for a mini-mezzanine just above the swim platform, creating a place for cocktails after a swim or for keeping an eye on the kids when they’re in the water.

According to Mazu, the owner has taken delivery and is currently cruising his yacht, and he is even planning on using it as a floating office this winter.

In addition to the 82, Mazu’s model lineup includes 38-, 42- , 52- and 62-foot models.

Revealed: The First Mazu 82 Flagship Superyacht in Action

The first 24.5 metre  Mazu 82  flagship has been revealed underway and in action in this first-look video.

It comes after Turkish yacht builder Mazu Yachts  launched and delivered the 24.5 metre superyacht before revealing its bespoke interior penned by Turkish designer Tanju Özelgin.

Speaking about the design, Özelgin said he "aimed to create an on board ambiance more in tune with land based architecture." The result is a "chic yet warm and inviting feeling," he said.

Özelgin previously said his aim was to buck the trend of many yacht interior designs, which, he says, constantly seek to remind owners and guests they are at sea. Instead, his interior design is intended to create the illusion of feeling “at home or in a nice hotel”.

Speaking about the interior, he added: “The space has to be as compact and light as possible without losing the illusion of feeling at home or in a cosy hotel.

"This was one of our key aspects during the design phase of the yacht: to create a space that feels more as if you were in your own house with all the familiarity and comfort that comes with it."

Generous volumes combine with large hull windows, subtle textures and muted colours.

Mazu founder Halit Yukay added that the interior and exterior design complement one another and "should be seen as a whole."

"Both should create a coherent unity and reflect the main mood and feelings the designer intended.”

Elsewhere, the yacht features a bespoke lighting system that combines both artificial and natural light.

"Lighting is an important tool for the designer to create an atmosphere and mood, which further improves the design of this space," he said.

The Mazu 82 is the largest to come from the yard. Designed by Mazu's founder Halit Yukay, it combines a clean profile line with expansive decks and large hull windows.

Accommodation will be for six guests across three staterooms, comprising a full-beam master amidships, an en suite VIP cabin forward, and a double stateroom off the passageway. The master suite bathroom features a large shower, with a walk-in wardrobe opposite.

The Mazu 82 is built from carbon composite in a light weight sandwich construction.

Power comes from three Volvo Penta IPS 1350 1000hp engines with a cruising speed of 35 knots and a maximum speed of 40 knots. Further details include a beam of 5.9 metres and a draft of 1.6 metres.

The Mazu 82 is currently scheduled to make its official debut at the 2020 Cannes Yachting Festival.

Mazu Yachts Unveils Maiden 28m Semi-Displacement Superyacht – Mazu 92DS

On the eventful day of Sunday, August 20th, 2023, Mazu Yachts celebrated the successful launch of the Mazu 92DS, a significant step into the field of steel construction for the brand’s novel semi-displacement line. This inaugural vessel paves the way for the upcoming 112 and 132 models, showcasing Mazu’s commitment to innovation.

Distinguishing itself as a trailblazer, the Mazu 92DS integrates the IPS propulsion system into a steel hull for the first time globally. A notable milestone, it employs a distinctive triple-engine configuration of Volvo Penta IPS 1050 (3x 800HP). This revolutionary achievement further underscores Mazu’s dedication to pushing the boundaries of engineering.

The grand unveiling of the Mazu 92DS is eagerly anticipated at the forthcoming Cannes and Monaco Yacht shows this September, prior to its delivery to its proud Turkish owner. Red Yacht Design, adhering to Mazu’s signature geometric lines, has masterfully crafted both the exterior and interior, resulting in a harmonious blend of simplicity and sophistication.

A hallmark of the Superyacht series is its utilization of a steel hull complemented by a carbon composite superstructure. This synergy not only achieves a reduced weight profile but also ensures a lower center of gravity, enhancing both stability and performance.

Since 2011, Mazu Yachts has consistently epitomized the fusion of artistry and engineering, epitomized by their vision to create “classics of the future.” This dedication is reflected in the Mazu 92DS , which has successfully undergone its initial sea trials. Impressively, it has excelled in acceleration and top-speed tests, attaining a remarkable 18 knots at full speed (2,200 RPM) and 13 knots at 1,500 RPM. Its steel body, weighing 120 tons, remarkably consumes a mere 110 liters of fuel per hour, translating to an impressive cruising range of 1,170 nautical miles on a single tank.

Young, by the standards of the shipyards, the Turkish company Mazu Yacht s was founded in 2011 in the city of Yalova . The company occupied a niche in boat building Executive class. To meet the high requirements of customers the specialists of the company spend a large amount of time studying needs and thoroughly working on every detail.
