OBI ONE – CARRERA 57′

A 57 feet LOA fast cruising Catamaran for an Italian owner, designed by French naval architects Lerouge Yacht Design with interiors and styling by Alessandro Vismara. The foam sandwich composite hulls were built in France using epoxy infusion technology. The sandwich structure is composed of glass fiber skins reinforced with unidirectional carbon fibres over a PVC foam core of variable density. In the bottom areas, subjected to slamming and potential impact damage, a higher elongation PVC core was used. The empty shells were transported to Italy, where the structural assembly was completed at the Yard with central coachroof and cockpit, internal structures, appendices and carbon fiber beams produced in collaboration with Arca compositi. The interior fit out and systems installations also took place at the Yard, Cantiere Arredomar in Campalto (Venezia). Among the technical features of the Carrera 57’ is the use of centerboards; many cruising cats do not use centerboards because it takes up interior space in the hulls; for this craft the position of the centerboards was designed to allow the optimization of the interior layout without neglecting it’s hydrodynamic function. Lorima, using carbon fiber consolidated under autoclave pressure built the rotating wing mast. Lorima is a French mast producer, World leader in the Multihull field; in recent years they have rigged about 70% of the racing and cruising sailing fleet of large ocean going multihulls. Vismara Yacht Design produced a modern yet simple interior design with particular attention to weight saving an important performance factor in multihulls. Always with the scope of weight saving the interior hull surfaces are not covered and the structures are left visible. Trimarine was responsible, on behalf of the Owner, for the overall project management and the technical and logistical coordination. Trimarine directed the technical choices of components and equipment as well as the construction processes and structural details while following the project as Owner’s representative. Trimarine oversaw the quality and accuracy of the construction, maintaining strict control of the respect for the specification and designers plans. Trimarine also produced the construction detailed plans, designed the on-board systems, prepared the Owner’s Manual and managed the yard visits and communication with RiNA, the certification authority in charge of the vessel’s approval.

Star Wars has surprisingly revealed quite a bit more about Obi-Wan Kenobi's family in recent years, and, as it happens, they've proven rather important. The biological families of Jedi have scarcely been shown in Star Wars movies and TV shows , particularly in the Old Republic, as Jedi were typically taken from their families quite young to avoid potentially dangerous attachments. Anakin Skywalker (and the Skywalker family tree more broadly) has been an obvious exception to this.

However, Star Wars' TV shows have begun to show more about certain Jedi's origins, such as the episode of Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi that followed a storyline between Ahsoka Tano and her biological mother when Ahsoka was an infant. While Obi-Wan's biological family hasn't been shown to nearly that degree on screen, Star Wars has dropped a number of hints about what Obi-Wan's family may have looked like. In particular, one fact revealed about Obi-Wan's family in Obi-Wan Kenobi connected to a surprising George Lucas idea in a brilliant way .

George Lucas Originally Intended Owen Lars To Be Obi-Wan's Brother

Shockingly, George Lucas originally intended Owen Lars to be Obi-Wan Kenobi's brother . In a screenplay of Return of the Jedi , Obi-Wan explained to Luke that he had brought him as an infant to live with his brother, Owen, who became Luke's adoptive father and 'Uncle Owen.' However, that ultimately did not appear in Return of the Jedi , and, instead, the prequels revealed that Uncle Owen was (technically) Luke's uncle after all.

Specifically, Owen was the stepson of Anakin Skywalker's mother, Shmi. Although Owen and Anakin never grew up together and only met once, that did make Owen Luke's uncle. Interestingly, however, the idea that Owen was really Obi-Wan's brother still appeared in certain sources, such as the novelization of Return of the Jedi . There was also a 1995 Star Wars card game that referenced Owen Lars being the brother of Obi-Wan Kenobi.

How Star Wars Legends Honored Lucas' Original Plans For Owen Lars

Interestingly, Legends fleshed out this idea considerably. In Legends, Obi-Wan dreamed about his parents and a brother named Owen when he was a Padawan, believing the dreams to really be memories of his home life. In fact, it wasn't until he learned of Anakin meeting his stepbrother, Owen Lars, on Tatooine that he began to question whether that was really true.

In the end, Obi-Wan came to realize that, rather than memories of his own brother, he had been experiencing Force visions showing Owen Lars. Although a bit obscure, this story worked to explain away the discontinuities when it came to Owen and Obi-Wan's relationship. In fact, because Owen ultimately adopted Luke, there was almost something like a familial bond between the two of them. Moreover, Owen would become absolutely critical to the future of the Jedi, making Obi-Wan's visions all the more reasonable.

Obi-Wan's Brother Became Star Wars Canon In His TV Show

Although Owen wasn't canonized as Obi-Wan's brother, the Obi-Wan Kenobi show did shockingly reveal that Obi-Wan had a brother . In the show, Obi-Wan tells Leia that he believes he had a brother, as he remembers him very vaguely. Interestingly, this lines up quite well with the Legends story of Obi-Wan believing he was seeing his own brother in his dreams.

However, this time, the story seems here to stay, meaning that somewhere out there Obi-Wan does indeed have a brother. This is particularly curious, as it's unclear whether that story will ever be developed. It seems an odd hint to drop if there's no further exploration of whom that brother was, although that's certainly not out of the question. Nevertheless, it's thrilling to imagine that, at some point down the line, Obi-Wan's true brother could make an appearance.

Obi-Wan's Memories Of His Family Explain His Relationship With Anakin

This revelation in Obi-Wan Kenobi elucidated so much more about Obi-Wan's relationship with Anakin Skywalker and, sadly, where that relationship went wrong. In Obi-Wan Kenobi , Obi-Wan spoke with clear fondness about the brother he remembered. In fact, there was something almost sad about Obi-Wan recounting this memory, which is particularly telling.

The Jedi were frequently taken as infants or toddlers to be Jedi Initiates because the Jedi had concerns about younglings forming attachments to their families. Anakin ended up being a perfect example of how much damage such attachment can do. However, this moment between Obi-Wan and Leia revealed that, in a sense, this is a real loss, too. Obi-Wan lived knowing he had a family he could barely remember, and even with ample Jedi training, there's something sad about that.

This history and Obi-Wan's sentiments about it help to explain Obi-Wan's very complex relationship with Anakin as well, as it seems he was almost filling in that gap from his brother via Anakin. In fact, Obi-Wan's already devastating statement on Mustafar in Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith takes on a whole new meaning in this context. "You were my brother, Anakin; I loved you" conveys a whole new level of heartbreak in light of the knowledge that Anakin was not the first brother Obi-Wan said goodbye to and missed .

This could in turn explain Obi-Wan's willingness to overlook Anakin consistently undermining the Jedi way, especially in his relationship with Padmé. Obi-Wan was certainly not solely to blame for Anakin's fall; there were many moments leading to Anakin Skywalker's downfall , most of them out of Obi-Wan's control. However, it's unfortunately true that he enabled or at least turned a blind eye to Anakin's troubling behaviors.

It may very well be that Obi-Wan's fond but distant memories of his brother clouded his judgment when it came to Anakin. Intriguingly, this would again be a reflection of the trouble attachment can cause, although it would effectively be the reverse of what the Jedi would expect. In Obi-Wan's case, being removed from his family home may have caused him to experience these very feelings.

The true identity of Obi-Wan's brother may never be revealed, nor may Obi-Wan's feelings about his long-lost brother and his removal from his family. Nevertheless, it's fascinating to know that the original idea for Owen Lars to be Obi-Wan's brother generated so many different storylines, including the canonization of Obi-Wan having a brother in Obi-Wan Kenobi . Obi-Wan Kenobi's family, his brother included, may never be revealed on-screen, but it's clear that his family did have a significant influence on Star Wars .

2009 Vismara C57 Catamaran – NOW SOLD

Grabau International is delighted to announce its successful sale of the 2009 Vismara C57 Catamaran ‘OBI ONE’.

OBI ONE is born from a project developed over the years from a qualified team of professionals guided from the owner whose wish was building the ultimate fast cruising lightweight catamaran.

Commissioned in 2007 by an experienced owner who selected the best professionals to set up a team able to build a performance cruising catamaran with evergreen characteristics and high technologies: Erik Lerouge Yacht Design for the project, Vismara Yacht Design for the interior project, Trimarine for build and the supervision of the construction.

Launched in 2009, OBI ONE is a particularly highly specified custom high-performance cruising catamaran equipped as a turnkey solution for fast offshore sailing: • Carbon fibre wing mast • Carbon fibre boom • Lewmar winches pack • B&G H3000 instruments pack • Carbon fibre davits with RIB • Twin Volvo Penta 75hp engines with saildrives • Lomac 3,8 metre dinghy with rigid bottom • Honda 20hp outboard engine • Schenker watermaker • Webasto diesel heating • 3kw Inverter • Four cabins layout with two heads • Foldable tables in the cockpit • Carbon fibre steering wheels • Led lights

OWNER’S REVIEW:

OBI ONE was commissioned chosen the best players in the market combining the best Italians and French skills. From the most famous French designers of fast ocean cruisers catamarans of that time, Eirk Lerouge, to Trimarine as a builder, a company that has to his credit the construction of several America’s and VOR cup boats. Vismara Yacht Design was in charge of the interior design with the aim to create a modern, iconic and minimalistic boat built for fast cruising.

All this made it possible to create a multihull capable of combining the style and comfort of a cruising boat and the performance of a racing catamaran: • It reaches a maximum speed of 26 knots • Able to tighten the wind up to an apparent upwind angle of 30 ° (without losing performance) • Able to sail faster than wind up to 10-11 Kn of real wind

The construction of the hulls was carried out in vacuum infusion with epoxy resin using glass skins reinforced with unidirectional carbon, the living work is made with Kevlar leathers.

The realization of the centre construction, of the internal structures, is also vacuum-packed; appendages and crossbars are in carbon.

The rotating mast is by Lorima who is a world-leading manufacturer of multihull shafts. They armed over 70% of the fleet of large oceanic multihulls. Made of high modulus carbon sandwich (M40J). It is 24 m high.

The boat is equipped with North Sails wardrobe. The Incidence sails wardrobe is also available.

The interior decoration and design have been treated with great attention to weight saving, a particularly important factor in a multihull to ensure good performance. Still, with a view to having no parasitic weights, the internal surfaces have no coating and the structures are visible.

All these attentions, the materials used, the structural furnishings and the racer’s water lines have allowed us to achieve an excellent result in terms of performances, habitability, style.

DESIGNER’S OVERVIEW

The “Obi one” project sees Vismara working in conjunction with Lerouge, and it is an evolution of the well-known Petter 55, for which Vismara took charge of the creation at Petter Quality yachts, Marseille.

The new project and craft, designed and built to measure for an expert customer, who has played an active role in the choice of different technical and aesthetic solutions, is a perfect example of Vismara style, this time transferred to an ocean-going catamaran. Le Rouge was in charge of the hydrodynamics and structural works, while Vismara designed the interiors, the deck plan and the overall styling of the boat. The concept behind “Obi One” is very similar to that of Vismara’s monohulls. It is a fast sports cruiser with a vacuum glass, epoxy resin and airex sandwich hull with Kevlar reinforcements, while the beams subject to greatest stress are in carbon. The deck is ultra-modern, with a sleek deckhouse, featuring a large glazed part to the front and rear; the cockpit has a large living area and double helm at the sides.
