Select Yachts

The benefits of chartering a yacht.

select yachts

Some say that chartering a boat or yacht is not a good deal when compared with going on a cruise ship vacation. However, if you compare a yacht cruise with a cruise ship holiday you will quickly find that a yacht vacation offers amenities, such as personalized VIP treatment, that a cruise ship does not offer. A yacht charter will cater to your every need in a way that no other vacation can.

Select Yachts offers access to beautiful and versatile yacht and sailboat options, ensuring that you will have an amazing vacation. Some of the benefits of choosing a yacht charter include:

Setting your own itinerary – You will have the option of setting a customized itinerary with the captain, allowing you to stay at specific ports longer if desired. All you have to do is speak with the captain about your specific wants and he or she will accommodate them.

Planning your own menu – You also have the option of planning your meals with the chef. Our chef is able to prepare formal or informal meals for you throughout your vacation.

A full-time professional crew – The size of crew is determined by the size of the vessel. Each of our crew members are carefully screened and continually evaluated by the captain and yacht owner. We want to assure our clients that we provide safe, quality services. A typical crew will consist of the Captain, Mate, Engineer, Deckhand, Chef and Stewardess.

When making the difficult choice about how to spend your vacation, charter a boat. Select Yachts offers you the freedom to customize your vacation boating experience, allowing you to get the most out of it. At Select Yachts, your every wish is our command!

This boat happily accommodates children

New main engine and stabilizers for up-to-date and reliable transportation

The boat is fully air conditioned throughout

Three crew members to accommodate all of your needs

Separate crew quarters

Pyewatcket is named after a magical cat, reflective of the crew’s ability to magically remove all stress from our guests. When you and five of your closest friends or family wish to enjoy a unique and luxurious VIP vacation, consider booking a private cruise on the stunning Pyewatcket.

Vacationing on Pyewatcket

The Pyewatcket and her crew are happy to accommodate. Pyewacket spends the winter in Florida and the Bahamas and cruises up north to New England and Maine in the summer. When you choose to vacation with Select Yachts, we are happy to arrange fun activities for you and your guests including:

Choosing to charter a boat can be a fun and unique way to spend quality time with your friends or family. Whether you are having a quiet dinner for two or lounging on the deck, you are sure to have a fabulous vacation. Onboard, the dining will be scaled to your preferences and tastes, making your experience as formal or casual as you like. You have many dining options, including staying on board in the evening or going ashore and finding a great restaurant. Your boat’s crew are here to ensure your vacation is everything you hoped it would be, from relaxing to action-packed.

Is a Boat Charter Vacation Affordable?

While many yacht charters can be extremely expensive and cater to the “Rich and Famous,” you can still enjoy a luxurious VIP boating vacation at an affordable price. Select Yachts offers charter options for everyone, with prices scaled to your desired level of luxury. If you are interested in a cozy honeymoon cruise on a yacht, we have cruises starting at just $5000 per week, and are inclusive of all meals and drinks.

The team at Select Yachts sees many families enjoy our yachts and sailboats. Pyewatcket is no different, and is ideal for families of six who wish to enjoy some quality time together. A high weekly price for Pyewatcket is $25000 while a low weekly price is $22000. When you compare the price per person with other group vacation options, you will see that it is extremely competitive and a great value. The price will go up as the size of the boat and number of luxury amenities go up, allowing you to scale to suit your budget. Choosing a boat charter vacation is a great value and, arguably, a best-kept vacation secret. When you are ready for a fun and relaxing VIP-style vacation, enjoy a cruise aboard the luxurious and beautiful Pyewatcket.

Select Yachts in voluntary liquidation

 • October 30, 2008

Cornish Shrimper and Crabber dealer 'going to fight'

The credit crunch has hit the Select Yacht Group Ltd of Wadebridge in Cornwall, the company that builds and sells Cornish Crabbers and Shrimpers, as well as the British Hunter range of yachts including the Link 30.

‘The company has gone into voluntary liquidation on the basis of the Inland Revenue giving the company no leeway on payments,’ said Frank Colam, Managing Director.

‘The deal was that I would pay creditors an amount of the sale of a factory unit. Then another department of the Inland Revenue came in and demanded money instantly, said Colam today. ‘The Inland Revenue are b*****ds – and you can quote me on that. They don’t take prisoners.’

The British Hunter Link 30, which made its show debut at Southampton, attracted a lot of interest but the financial climate meant that those interested were playing safe. ‘Southampton was awful,’ said Colam. ‘Interest in the Link 30 was huge but a lot of potential buyers were looking to sell first.’

‘We’re going to fight,’ said Colam. ‘We’re going to do our damnedest but it’s difficult. This Government’s paid billions of pounds of our money to bail out the banks but there’s been nothing, no help at all, for small and medium sized businesses like us. There were five British boatbuilders, now there are four. Manufacturing is completely shot in this country.’

‘No customer has lost any money and all deposits have been returned – there’s nothing outstanding,’ said Colam. Twenty staff, seen by Colam as one of the company’s primary assets, have been made redundant. ‘They will struggle to find work in this area,’ he added.

Accountant Francis Clarke of Exeter has been appointed to look after creditors.

Meet the Select Boat Team

THE SELECT BOAT BROKERAGE TEAM ARE OUTSTANDING. CHARLES, A CONSUMMATE PROFESSIONAL WHO BELIEVES HARD WORK AND HONESTY IS THE BEST WAY TO GO. I CANNOT SAY ENOUGH OF HOW HE WENT OVER AND ABOVE TO ENSURE THE SALE OF OUR BOAT IN A TIMELY FASHION. FAIRLY PRICED REPAIRS AND MAINTENANCE AND HE EVEN DID LAST MINUTE WORK TO SELL OUR BOAT AND DIDN’T EVEN CHARGE US. THIS TYPE OF CUSTOMER SERVICE IS LOST OR HARD TO FIND IN OUR WORLD TODAY. I RECOMMEND SELECT BOAT BROKERAGE TO ANYONE LOOKING TO SELL OR PURCHASE A BOAT, THEY ARE TRULY A GEM ON THE WATERFRONT.
I CANNOT BELIEVE HOW QUICKLY MY BOAT SOLD! CHARLES WAS ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC. FROM THE TIME WE MET AND EVEN AFTER THE BOAT SOLD, CHARLES WAS THE MOST PROFESSIONAL, COURTEOUS AND HONEST PERSON I HAVE SEEN IN THIS INDUSTRY. CHARLES TOOK THE TIME TO EXPLAIN THE ENTIRE PROCESS OF PREPARING AND SELLING MY BOAT. TO TOP IT OFF, HE EVEN DETAILED AND CLEANED MY BOAT TO BE PRESENTABLE TO HIS HIGH STANDARD OF CLEANLINESS. BECAUSE OF THIS, MY BOAT SOLD IN 2 WEEKS, DURING THE WINTER NO LESS. THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING YOU DID FOR US CHARLES. YOU WILL DEFINITELY HERE FROM US AGAIN FOR FUTURE BUYING AND SELLING.
WITH US BEING NEW TO THIS AREA, CHARLES HELPED ME FIND A BOAT TO FIT MY NEEDS. WENT OVER THE DETAILS AND WALKED ME THROUGH EVERYTHING. I AM A VERY SATISFIED CUSTOMER AND WHEN I’M READY TO MOVE INTO ANOTHER BOAT, I WILL BE CALLING CHARLES.
CHARLES GAVE ME NO PRESSURE, WAS AS TRANSPARENT AS COULD BE, AND GOT ME THE EXACT BOAT I WAS LOOKING FOR. HE MADE SURE MY WIFE AND FAMILY WERE COMFORTABLE WITH OUR INVESTMENT AND FOLLOWED UP AFTER THE SALE. WOULD DO IT AGAIN WITHOUT HESITATION.

Timmerman Yachts is a Russian builder of quality luxury motor yachts. Based in Moscow, it is owned by a group of Dutch and Russian investors and operates out of Moscow Shipyard. Several noted naval architecture and yacht design firms are involved with Timmerman, including Vripack, Guido de Groot Design, Ginton Naval Architects, Jon Bannenberg Ltd., and Francis Design Ltd.

Founded in 2003, the company was named for 17th century Dutch boat builder Franz Timmerman who brought Dutch boat manufacturing techniques to Russia and co-founded the Russian navy. Timmerman Yachts has more than 1,000 employees working at the Moscow Shipyard.

Timmerman has delivered a number of semi-custom luxury yachts between 26-47 metres in length, including TM26 and Timmerman FD-51, designed by Francis Design Ltd. Other notable Timmerman yachts include Victoria M, Alexandra (now Latitude) and Olsten 125′.

One of the 10 largest yacht builders in the world, Timmerman is focused on building high-quality luxury yachts at more competitive prices. Its Russian-Dutch partnership provides great yacht-building capabilities. Timmerman builds yacht to the highest standards and holds DNV, MCA and Russian River Register certification. The company reportedly has more than a dozen yachts in some phase of construction.

Targeting super yachts owned by Russian oligarchs could hit a nerve in Moscow

Poor transparency around ownership of assets can cause challenges, experts say.

Social Sharing

With sanctions levied and financial assets seized, Russian oligarchs have been scrambling to get their super yachts out of Western ports in search of safer harbours.

One yacht, said to belong to Russian President Vladimir Putin himself, abruptly left port in Hamburg, Germany, just weeks before the Russian invasion of Ukraine prompted wide-reaching sanctions. Others were not so quick to leave European ports.

Authorities in La Ciotat, on France's Mediterranean coast, seized a yacht they say is linked to sanctioned Russian oligarch Igor Sechin, the CEO of state oil company Rosneft. He was Russia's deputy prime minister from 2008 to 2012.

 • Canada slaps sanctions on Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich
 • Analysis With Russia pressing on and Ukraine digging in, how will Putin's war actually end?

Industry watchers say oligarchs everywhere are trying to keep their yachts from being taken.

"There's a few yachts that we are watching at the moment in the Atlantic," said Sam Tucker, head of super yachts at the firm VesselsValue, which tracks and estimates the value of these giant luxury yachts.

"I'm expecting some of them to start doing U-turns in the middle of the ocean," he told CBC Radio's Day 6 .

Western countries have imposed a punishing package of sanctions and export control restrictions on Russia in response to the invasion of Ukraine. Russia's biggest banks were hit, as was the country's central bank. Major state-owned companies and some of the country's wealthiest individuals have seen overseas assets frozen.

The investment bank JP Morgan Chase believes Russia's economy will shrink 35 per cent in the second quarter of 2022 and seven per cent for the entire year.

White House spokesperson Jen Psaki says the suite of sanctions is meant to make every aspect of life difficult on Putin and the oligarchs who protect him.

"What we're talking about here is seizing their assets, seizing their yachts and making it harder for them to send their children to go to colleges and universities in the West," Psaki said in a briefing this week. "These are significant steps that will impact the people who are closely around President Putin."

#Putin´s Yacht "The Gracefull" inbound Kaliningrad from Hamburg in anticipation of future sanctions due to the conflict in #Ukraine. pic.twitter.com/qdhAUhCH1m — @GDarkconrad

Symbolic target

The yachts themselves are worth hundreds of millions of dollars, but experts in Russian sanctions say this isn't just about the dollar value.

"They don't have much value compared to the total net worth of an oligarch," said Bill Browder, a long-time advocate for stiff sanctions against Russian oligarchs, in an email to CBC Radio.

But they are "a highly symbolic attack on something coveted by the oligarchs."

These ultra-luxurious ships became a status symbol for the oligarchs as they amassed fortunes in the 1990s and early 2000s.

"There is a bit of oneupmanship," Tucker told Day 6 . He says the biggest and most expensive ships are cloaked in secrecy. They have extreme privacy and security features, including bulletproof glass, and some require crew to sign non-disclosure agreements.

select yachts

But Tucker says the biggest security and privacy feature of all is the opaque ownership structure of the yachts. He says precious little information about who actually owns these ships is available.

"[Only] basic information is disclosed — for example, the registered owner — which is often a shell company or a 'special interest vehicle' registered in Monaco, Malta, [or the] Cayman Islands," he said.

Untying those knots is a notorious problem, but one usually confined to taxation issues.

select yachts

"One thing that I think may come out of this whole situation is the increased call for transparency and transparent ownership," said Tucker.

Yachts on the move

So far, only four super yachts have been seized, including a 213-foot yacht owned by Alexei Mordashov in Imperia, Italy.

While authorities sift through the byzantine paper trail of ownership, other oligarchs have scrambled their crews to get the yachts to somewhere safe.

"One of the things I've been trying to figure out is, where do they go [next]?" asked Alex Finley, a former CIA officer living in Barcelona, in an interview with As It Happens host Gillian Findlay .

This week, Finley tweeted photos tracking a ship said to be owned by Roman Abramovich, the Russian billionaire who owns the Chelsea Football Club.

 • Anxious Russians flee by the hundreds each day into neighbouring Finland

"A lot of these yachts that we've been looking at are heading towards the Maldives or the Seychelles. A few are in Montenegro, but they look like they're probably going to be on the move," Finley said in the interview .

Here you can see the sterns of both Aurora and Valerie, and in the other pic, the empty slip where Solaris used to be (which is the size of the empty hole in my heart). 7/ pic.twitter.com/Luvj5vyWXp — @alexzfinley

Neither the Maldives nor the Seychelles signed onto the sanctions, so the ships are probably safe from seizure there. Another major hub is Dubai.

"I think we're going to see Dubai as a big hotspot for these yachts," said Tucker. "It has hot weather all year round and … Russians can fly to Dubai without going through the EU airspace."

Tucker agrees that targeting the yachts is a symbolic move.

"It's really sending the message that they aren't untouchable. We've closed the skies on both sides of the Atlantic so their private jets can't operate, and now we're going after their super yachts," he said.

"I'd be feeling quite vulnerable if I was an oligarch right now."

Review: Ilma, The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection: First In

Image may contain: Transportation, Vehicle, Yacht, Chair, Furniture, Handrail, Couch, Dining Table, Table, and Water

Start out with the big picture—what is this cruise line known for?

The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection is new to the cruising scene—its first superyacht, Evrima , launched in 2022, and Ilma is the second in its quickly expanding fleet, which is meant to provide all the luxury and freedom of a private yacht with the refinement and service Ritz-Carlton is known for.

And I have to say they’re nailing it—I truly felt like I was aboard a yacht more than a cruise ship. All of the spaces are designed with intimacy in mind and you can tell.

Tell us about the ship in general .

She’s sleek, she’s sexy, and she has a hotelier’s touch. I stayed at Hôtel Arts Barcelona , a Ritz-Carlton flagship, before Ilma departed, and being onboard felt like a natural extension of the hotel. Everything felt comfortable but not at the expense of style. My mind immediately goes to the director-style dining chairs on deck outside Mistral, the restaurant on deck 10, which were not only designed specifically for Ilma —sleek chrome for the base and classic nautical stripes for the cushions—but improved upon from Evrima for new dimensions catering to comfort. I also can’t rave enough about the linens throughout the ship, from the napkins to the sheets to the bathrobe (more on this later).

All of the decks on board are expansive but never feel overcrowded—the loungers, couches, and tables are arranged to create pockets of intimate spaces, so you never feel like there are 400 other passengers onboard. There are 10 decks in total, the upper deck (10) and lower decks (3-5) being the most social—the main pool deck is on top, with loungers spanning along both sides of the ship and smaller tables between. At the bow, there’s the observation deck, cleverly hidden on the far side of the pool, with couches and its own bar. It’s so private, you almost feel like you might be in the wrong place (replaced quickly by the feeling that this is now your own little secret). The lower decks house most of the restaurants, the fitness studio and spa, and the smaller (infinity) pool deck, as well as the Living Room, which has smaller groupings of couches and tables, separated by natural parts of the architecture, like pillars and bookshelves, so you feel like you’re in, well, someone’s well-appointed family room.

Every design decision feels purposeful because, of course it is. Taking what they learned from Evrima and her guests, the Yacht Collection expanded much of Ilma ’s capacity to respond to what passengers gravitated toward the most, doubling the size of the fitness studios, the number of spa treatment rooms, and and the amount loungers on deck, for which I was grateful. I was relieved not to have to wake up at dawn to stake my claim on a seat.

Who is onboard?

Mostly couples, a few families, and a handful of solo travelers, all ranging in age. We had a lot of longtime Ritz loyalists, many who’d never cruised before, finally willing to give it a shot, thanks to Ilma .

Describe the cabins .

Spacious, airy, plenty of room to breathe. My cabin— a Grand Suite —had both dining and living areas, in addition to a bedroom that I could close off while sleeping, avoiding any of the gorgeous Mediterranean sunlight let in by the floor-to-ceiling glass sliding door too early in the morning. Running the whole width of the suite, the door opened onto a balcony to rival the decks above. I had two loungers and two armchairs all to myself, of which I made ample use.

I appreciated the two separate closet spaces (more than I have in my current apartment) that had drawers and hanging space—with enough hangers!—in addition to open shelving, which I used as easy access for the items I reached for the most: jewelry, bags, a sarong for the pool.

As for the linens, they were all from Frette , including the bathrobe, which now has the distinction of being the most comfortable robe I’ve ever used and made me realize how scratchy other robes turn out to be.

The color scheme was, like the rest of the superyacht, refined and understated—soft grays, whites, with a pop of color from the teal couch.

In the bathroom, I relished using the Diptyque products present during every shower, though I did have to hunt for the waste bin, which turned out not to be a separate receptacle but a drawer that was part of the vanity and took some getting used to.

Tell us about the crew.

They were attentive and engaged but not overbearing and often knew what I wanted before I did (thinking of the iced oat milk latte I was offered one morning on the pool deck—it turned out to be just what I needed). We were told some of the crew had come from other Ritz properties, and I could tell a few were still getting their sea legs but were well on their way to adapting to the ship.

My suite ambassador, Horacio, was a particular standout, always anticipating what I’d need for the coming day—an extra bottle of Moët early on, then a fresh bottle of sparkling water later. He also made sure my welcome-night dress was freshly pressed in time for dinner and the following party, which I was especially grateful for, as there was no iron in the suite (there are two in the guest launderette, though).

What food and drink options are available on board?

You’ll never want for a drink or snack on Ilma . There are five restaurants, all with distinctive types of cuisine—Tides, Memorī, Beach House, Mistral, and the pièce de resistance: Seta su Ilma . Headed up by Michelin-starred chef Fabio Trabocchi, Seta is the only restaurant on board that requires an additional fee to dine there, and I’d recommend making a reservation as soon as you embark.

I experienced Seta (and it truly is an experience ) my last night on the superyacht, and it was quite the send-off. Dinner is an 11-course tasting menu with a wine pairing for every course, so everyone told me to eat light the day of, and I’m glad I did, especially since my favorite course (Wagyu beef calabrese) came last before dessert. Seta was the most intimate of the restaurants with only ~40 seats, and all of the tables had staggered seating times. Our (chatty) table was one of the later seatings, and we closed down the restaurant.

And when you’re more parched than peckish, there are six bars aboard, most adjacent to their respective restaurants. My favorite was the Marina Bar, in the aft of the ship. Two of the walls transform out into open-air decks with glass paneling beneath you, so you can get a glimpse of the water below while you sip your cocktail of choice (mine was naturally a piña colada).

Is there a spa on board and is it worth visiting?

Yes and yes—treatments available include the usual suspects, like massages and facials, as well as salon services for both men and women. The Barber—an extension of the Pisterzi brand , which has locations in New York and Milan—and The Salon are the go-to spots for haircuts, shaves, manicures, and all grooming needs in between. (I heard nothing but rave reviews about The Barber from the men aboard—I heard some variation of “best shave of my life” every time.) There’s also a steam room and sauna (one of each for men and women), which you can enjoy even without another treatment booked.

I’m always carrying around a tight back, so I was delighted to be treated to a deep muscle massage and finally feel my shoulders fall below my ears. Before my treatment, my massage therapist asked the usual questions—any injuries, which spots needed the most work, etc.—but then she applied two different oils and asked which I liked better. The one I chose meant my body needed relaxing, naturally. During the treatment, there was a bowl of rose petals on the floor below my head, which I found to be a nice touch. The massage itself was just the amount of pressure I like—a lot—without verging into too much . Afterward, the steam room and sauna were offered to me, but I was eager to heat up by the pool instead.

What about activities and entertainment?

You won’t find a theater or auditorium onboard Ilma and that’s because life is best lived on the decks, so I found—catching sun by one of the two pools or taking advantage of the adult playground that is the “aquabana”—a floating lounge space off the aft of the ship where you can swim in the sea, kayak, paddleboard, or relax with your feet in the water under one of the cabanas. These are common on private yachts, and in keeping with giving passengers a taste of the yachting lifestyle, Ilma acquired the largest one made yet (so I’m told).

There was plenty of live music throughout the voyage: a DJ by the pool deck or a live band in the Living Room— Ilma ’s central lounge space with a coffee bar and rotating gelato flavors by day and a busy cocktail bar by night.

When you’ve had enough sun (hard to imagine, I know), there’s not only a gym but spinning and movement studios, all expanded on Ilma , due to their popularity on Evrima . I had the best intention of spending one morning testing out a treadmill, but whenever I walked by, it seemed like the other guests had it under control.

Instead, I power-walked the decks, taking in all the art—you can find an original Hockney, Warhol, and Picasso onboard—and window shopping at the Bvlgari boutique.

How was the experience for families?

Surprisingly welcoming! I did not expect to see so many families on board, but there was dedicated programming for children through Ritz Kids , as well as a number of children simply enjoying the amenities alongside the rest of us: dancing, swimming, and sipping juices.

Where did it sail and how were the excursions? Did anything stand out?

We sailed from Barcelona to Saint-Tropez, where we anchored overnight, before disembarking in Monte Carlo. The overnight port call in Saint-Tropez gave us plenty of time for both planned excursions, which ranged from winery tours to a pastry-making class, and taking the tender into town for your own exploring.

For my excursion, I took a tour of nearby Port Grimaud, a planned community built in the ‘60s with a network of canals meant to mimic Venice, followed by a seafood tasting at a local restaurant before grabbing an digestif along the harbor back in Saint-Tropez with some of my fellow tour mates. What I really appreciated was how much time to wander we were given on our tour—we had portions of planned activities, like a boat tour through the aforementioned canals, but plenty of time for our own discovery.

Are there any stand out sustainability or green initiatives about this cruise?

Ilma is the first build in the collection to have a specialized gas system installed, which makes it flexible for current—and future—sustainable fuels, like bio- or synthetic fuels, and the next member of the fleet, Luminara (launching in 2025), will have the same.

Finally, give a sentence or two on why the cruise is worth booking.

A voyage on Ilma is worth booking to experience the luxury of the yachting lifestyle wherever, whenever—with the full service of a hotel.
