As well as a gleaming hull repaint, there is a new extendable passerelle that takes you all the way down to the water where there is a new inflatable platform for beach-club sea-level living. The flybridge has a new circular sunbed that rotates with the sun. Inside you’ll find her guest areas brighter and more welcoming with lighter woods, cream panels and new tapestries.
There’s a new cinema room on the main deck, a redesigned Japanese-style dining room and her gym shares a state-of-the-art MS Sculpt electric muscle stimulator with the massage room. As well as the latest Starlink Wi-Fi throughout and a wheelhouse brimming with the latest technology, she now operates more sustainably with LED lighting throughout, a new engine control room and new generators for lower noise and vibration.
Her unique features remain, like the three-deck sky-lit atrium where the stairs spiral around the main mast, an iconic architectural wonder. You can still indulge your passion for film with the world’s largest outdoor cinema, where movies are projected onto the lower sail so you can watch from the flybridge. The main deck aft, now shaded by a stylish new hardtop, is even better suited to entertainment with open-air dining aft and a circular sit-up bar, revamped with cream marble and new sound and light systems.
On the water, you'll find whatever you're looking for in MALTESE FALCON's garage of brand-new toys. She has a 10m (33ft) Pascoe tender to ferry guests into port or onto a deserted beach for a BBQ and thrill them on waterskis and wakeboards. SeaBobs, kayaks, SUPs, jet surfs, snorkelling equipment, windsurfers - she has plenty to keep you entertained.
When it's time for bed, the full-beam master suite on the lower deck has a large walk-in wardrobe and adjoining gym as well as his-and-hers bathrooms, now with jacuzzi bath as well as a shower room. As principal you may be tempted to take the private VIP deck instead, aft facing on the flybridge with access to the terrace and walkaround side decks, as it has a brand-new bed with a TV that rises from beneath it. There are an additional four double cabins on the lower deck, each with en suite facilities.

5 Maltese Falcon Facts: Who Owns the Superyacht?
She’s nearing her 20th birthday
The Maltese Falcon was first commissioned in 2000, and after 6 years of construction, made her debut in 2006. After a refit in 2020, she is looking fresher than ever, ready to take her guests on adventures all over the globe. Considering her age, it is impressive how she still holds her own next to the more modern vessels built in recent years.
She’s a former record holder
At the time of her delivery, the Maltese Falcon held the title of the world’s largest sailing yacht. At 88m in length, her size was incredibly impressive. The superyacht held onto this accolade for 9 years until 2015, when Nobiskrug delivered the 143m Sailing Yacht A, ending the Maltese Falcon’s reign at the top. Nowadays, several sailing yachts are considerably bigger, including Oceanco’s Black Pearl, as well as Y721, which is due to be delivered in 2022 .
She’s one of the largest yachts available to charter
At her sizeable 88m length, the Maltese Falcon is one of the largest sailing yachts available to charter. To enjoy the luxury aboard the vessel, up to 12 guests can expect to pay a whopping $400,000 per week. Facilities onboard include a full-deck masters suite and full-beam VIP suite. Additionally, there is space for an outdoor cinema on the sundeck and an inflatable water slide.
Her owner was a billionaire
The Maltese Falcon’s original owner was Thomas Perkins. Perkins was the owner of one of the most successful venture capital firms in the world. In 2014, Forbes estimated his net worth at an eye-watering $8bn. It was with this fortune that he commissioned the Maltese Falcon back in 2000. Before building the famous sailing yacht, Perkins already had an established relationship with Perini Navi, the shipyard that built the Maltese Falcon. The Italian shipyard had previously delivered the 43m Andromede la Dea in 1987. The vessel (which is now called Paz) was the second yacht ever built by Perini Navi.
She has a cinema onboard
Amongst the many luxuries found onboard, perhaps the most impressive amenity is a cinema. In mere moments, the lounging space at the bow of her sundeck transforms into a cinema. With comfortable lounge chairs and a projector beaming blockbusters onto her forward sail, Maltese Falcon is enough to satisfy any movie buff.

As principal you may be tempted to take the private VIP deck instead, aft facing on the flybridge with access to the terrace and walkaround side decks, as it has a brand-new bed with a TV that rises up from beneath it. There are four more double cabins on the lower deck, all of which can be joined to create two more VIP suites, which demonstrates the flexible accommodation that is great news for all sorts of charter parties.

Mike Lynch’s Sunken Superyacht Is Largely Intact, Italian Officials Say
I talian investigators searching the wreckage of the Bayesian superyacht said it appeared largely intact, a discovery that contradicts earlier eyewitnesses who said its mast had snapped when it sank in Monday’s storm.
Divers are reporting that the 180-foot-long yacht was lying on its side on the ocean floor, an Italian coast guard official said Wednesday. “The divers are looking for structural damage on the hull,” the official said.
The early reports from Italian officials appeared to be at odds with witnesses who had said the aluminum mast snapped during a violent thunderstorm when the vessel sank off the coast of Sicily with 22 people on board, including owner Mike Lynch, a U.K. tech billionaire.
The towering mast on the Bayesian stretched nearly 240 feet into the sky—making the superyacht the tallest luxury sailboat when it was built.
Maritime experts said a broken mast of that height could cause serious damage to a vessel, but the design isn’t a safety concern as long as the masts are well maintained and held tightly upright on the hull by cables called stays.
“Bigger masts support bigger sails and higher sailing speeds,” said Takis Tsakos, a veteran captain who also oversees for clients the construction of superyachts such as the Bayesian at yards in Europe and the U.S. “The yacht fans love the bigger masts because they look marvelous and give the vessel more volume. They are especially impressive at night when they are lit up.”
The Bayesian’s mast could have fallen on the hull, damaging it, or could have been uprooted from its base by the strong winds if the stays weren’t tight enough. Yacht captains say loose stays can make a boat tilt as much as 15 degrees even with the sails folded.
“That would have made a gaping hole and water could have rushed in. It was also a relaxed evening—doors and windows could have been open with more water coming in as the boat tilted,” said Tsakos, founder of Athens-based Yachtways GP, which rents out luxury yachts in the Mediterranean. “These will be determined when the yacht is pulled out of the water.”
The people missing and presumed dead in the sinking of the Bayesian include Lynch, his daughter, a top executive at Morgan Stanley and one of Lynch’s lawyers. The group was celebrating Lynch’s acquittal on U.S. fraud charges.
Italian authorities are continuing to investigate the accident and divers are trying to access the sunken hull. Rescue teams located five bodies from the wreck on Wednesday. The body of the boat’s chef was retrieved from the sea on Tuesday.
Masts must meet the safety standards of classification societies that give the green light for a ship to sail and monitor its maintenance over the years. Oversize masts on superyachts are turned by computer so they face the wind straight on and not sideways even when the sails are folded.
“For a vessel of this size to go down, there must have been tremendous ingress of water inside its enclosed spaces,” said Fotis Pagoulatos, a naval architect who has participated in a number of shipwreck investigations. “Its design allows it to stay afloat, even with two compartments flooded.” He said he wouldn’t be surprised if the yacht’s hull is found cracked and buckled from the forces exerted by the freak weather and possibly the cracked mast.
The single-masted Bayesian was built by Italian company Perini Navi and delivered in 2008 to its original owner. The boat, which was taller than it was long, was one of a class of supersize luxury yachts that cruise the Mediterranean and other hot spots.
Formerly known as Salute, it was one of several that Perini Navi built that was 56 meters long. But its sister ships had shorter masts—generally extending 59 meters, compared with about 72 meters for the Bayesian. Perini Navi didn’t return requests for comment.
The Bayesian has been eclipsed by newer boats owned by other billionaires. Jeff Bezos, the Amazon.com founder, commissioned the 127-meter-tall Koru, a three-masted vessel that was delivered in 2023.
The Koru was so tall that in 2022 it sparked a protest over plans to dismantle a bridge to let it sail out of the Dutch port where it was built. Instead, the ship was towed to another shipyard to have its masts mounted.
Still, the Bayesian remained one of the largest private sailing yachts. It was ordered by a Dutch businessman but, in 2005, he was paralyzed in a yachting accident and it was sold on completion to another Dutch owner and renamed Salute, according to yacht brokers.
In 2014, it was sold to an entity owned by Angela Bacares, Lynch’s wife, and renamed Bayesian. It has no racing history, but boats of this size compete in events such as the St Barths Bucket Regatta, an annual race in the Caribbean, and in the Perini Navi Cup, a four-day race near Sardinia.
Perini Navi is known for creating some of the world’s most famous and luxurious sailing yachts, including the 88-meter-long Maltese Falcon, one of the world’s most recognizable sailing yachts, with rotating masts and a futuristic design.
The masts of the Maltese Falcon are 57 meters tall.

Superyacht ‘Maltese Falcon’ steps in to provide humanitarian aid in the Mediterranean
- Share this on Facebook

By David Lazarevic 5 December 2019
The 88m/ 289ft sailing yacht ‘Maltese Falcon’ reports being involved in a mission to aid the passengers of a small boat off the coast of Greece.
In the early hours of the morning on October 27, the captain and crew of 'Maltese Falcon' were called to provide assistance to an overloaded boat off the coast of Athens.
After an unsuccessful transfer attempt in the open sea, the superyacht towed the boat to the shelter of a bay, where the passengers were able to safely step on board Maltese Falcon. The passage took around six hours.
Once aboard the yacht, the 56 passengers were then transported to the island of Kos under the direction of the local Coast Guard.
The boat was thought to be carrying refugees. It ran into trouble as a result of being heavily overloaded, and a strong swell and lack of captain caused a 'serious risk of sinking', according to the captain of Maltese Falcon.
The Maltese Falcon Captain reports "We towed their [..] sailboat from 5am to approximately 11am at only 2 knots, in big seas. The swinging mast on their sailboat prevented us from getting close safely. We made one transfer attempt, but seas and wind were deemed too dangerous due to the rolling. None had life jackets and one would assume most couldn't swim."
The superyacht towed the boat to the shelter of a bay, in a passage which took around six hours.
The transfer was made in a sheltered bay with the help of a local fishing boat, which stepped in to act as a stepping stone between the two vessels.
Her crew made swift work of the incident and managed to rescue every passenger, where they were “very quickly calmed once on board”
Shortly after passengers were transferred to safety, the crew recall seeing the group wave and cheer back “with smiles of thanks” towards Maltese Falcon.
The incident comes just months after a fleet of luxury yachts were among the first to bring aid to the Bahamas in the wake of Hurricane Dorian. The 47m/155ft charter yacht LOON was one of the very first vessels on the scene, stocked up with emergency supplies to aid the local people.
Other charter yachts involved in past humanitarian and disaster relief efforts include 51m/167ft luxury yacht 'Dunia Baru' and the 54m/177ft superyacht 'Talisman Maiton' .
Upon the vessel moving away, the entire group unanimously waved and cheered back to us with smiles of thanks.
Maltese Falcon is a popular yacht charter platform and proven racer. She has won multiple awards, both for her exceptional design and impressive performance.
Her on-board features include an outdoor cinema, indoor/outdoor bar and massage room.
