5-Star Reviews!

5 star review

From the moment of initial contact with Captain Yiannis, everything was seamless.

Our experience has been nothing short of exceptional.

From the moment of initial contact with Captain Yiannis, everything was seamless. This company and the entire team could not have been more helpful! We live in the USA and never had a problem with communication. The Catamaran we selected was the Lagoon 450F. It was beautiful, spacious, clean, and easy to live on for a week as we sailed to beautiful beaches.

The Ionian Islands we visited were breathtaking, especially Kefalonia – it was our favorite! Above all, the feeling of safety that Captain George ensured throughout our trip made our journey even more memorable. We can’t wait to experience it again.

So, if you’re looking for an unforgettable sailing experience around the Greek Islands with a professional company and a knowledgeable and friendly guide, look no further!

Great knowledge of the area and its history.

Excellent week of sailing in the Greek Islands with Yiannis. He has great knowledge of the area and its history. He showed us unique beaches and key sites on the islands. A memorable week of adventure, drama, and weather. A great first visit to the country of Greece and its islands. Recommend Yiannis as a skipper and guide for your trip.

David and Suzanne Kelly September 25, 2021

The kids enjoyed jumping off the boat and even steering.

We made it back safely and happily to Paros today. Yianni showed us secluded beaches, surprising chortas and agreed to take us to santorini even though he hates sailing there! The kids enjoyed jumping off the boat and even steering it on occasion. It’s a beautiful part of the world and we’d definitely recommend exploring it.

Yannis is a superb captain

First and foremost, Yannis is a superb captain. He is a true professional and puts the comfort and safety of the guests first. We had a superb week and thanks to the knowledge of Yannis we visited hidden beaches and places that were sublime. Yannis is passionate about sailing, and we all improved our sailing skills and learned about sailing this magical part of the world.

We cannot wait to return and know that Captain Yannis is our go-to Greek master of the seas.”

The best tavernas for dining and the most interesting places to visit.

My friends and I had a terrific sailing trip with Cpt. Yiannis. We sailed islands from Athens to Milos for a week. [...] Captain Yiannis was not only an outstanding skipper, but he also is a very knowledgeable tour guide. [...] Also, he had tremendous knowledge of any island we stopped on the way and recommended the best tavernas for dining and the most interesting places to visit.

The captain was very professional and sailed extremely safe and responsible. Great guy, a great captain, thank you, Captain Yiannis!

Remis – Boston, USA June 26, 2021

Yannis gave us the ideal family yacht

We had a wonderful week of sailing in the Saronic Gulf end of August. Yannis gave us the ideal family yacht for this bareboat charter trip . Together with the charter company we felt us in very good hands, for all questions we had. Except in this year 2020, with these special conditions!

Thanks Yiannis.

Luxury Yacht Charters

The Best Greek Islands Guide

If relaxing on golden coasts, exploring secluded islands, and partying in exclusive beach clubs sounds like your ideal holiday –  a luxury yacht charter in Greece awaits! Here are our tips and top destinations for you to have your best Greek islands yacht charter experience.

Explore the Best Greek Islands to Charter a Yacht

The Ultimate Greek Adventure Awaits

Why Charter a Yacht in and Around Greece?

Greece is famous for its stunning coastal views, ancient architecture, vibrant nightlife and gorgeous natural landscape. In addition, by chartering a yacht in and around Greece, you will have the freedom to hop from island to island, and experience a new enchanting side of the country with every visit.

Best Times of Year to Charter a Yacht in Greece

We recommend a summer charter in Greece, from May to September. Also in May, June and September, it will still be warm enough to go swimming and explore the islands, and you can avoid the busy crowds of tourists that flock to Greece during July and August.

Symi is part of the Dodecanese Islands, located in the Aegean Sea. Acres of uninhabited wildlife and sparkling turquoise water that hugs the coastline makes the island an idyllic paradise.

Best Things to Do and Highlights

  • Action packed adventure awaits you in Symi! Attend the electric annual Symi Festival. With concerts, theater spectacles and traditional Greek dance performances, you will experience local Greek culture like never before.
  • Travel to the southwest of the island and visit the 15th-century Panormitis Monastery which overlooks the coastline. The views from the Monastery are nothing short of spectacular.
  • Take a break from the action and relax and unwind at Marathounda Beach. As the location is only accessible by boat, the beach offers a private and tranquil atmosphere away from the festival crowds.
  • To conclude your Symi exploration, stroll the winding streets of the eccentric town. In addition, why not sample some of the local fresh seafood? Don’t miss out on the incredible view of the town from on board your yacht. The picturesque pastel buildings built on various slopes will have you reaching for your camera!

Discover the Charm of Greece

Islands rich in heritage and culture

Skyros – Best Greek Islands Yacht Charter Experience

If scenic views, ancient history and mile long beaches interest you, why not cruise to the stunning island of Skyros. Located in the Aegean Sea and only three hours from Athens, the island’s rugged landscape offers some of the best sights of the coast

  • Skyros is known for the white square shaped buildings that populate the island. Get the best view of Skyros’ famous architecture from on board your luxury yacht.
  • Hike up to Skyros Castle, situated on a 179 meter high hilltop overlooking the Aegean Sea. Ancient Greek mythology features the castle, tracing its origins to characters like Achilles and Theseus. Once at the summit, you can experience the magical sunset and watch the sky light up in vivid shades of pink, purple and orange as the sun melts into the sea.
  • Also visit Molos Beach, which stretches for miles along the island’s coast. Here, you can dive into the refreshing water, snorkel with the local wildlife or catch a tan on the shore.

Located in the Ionian Sea, Lefkada’s lush forestry, rugged terrain, and serene shores make it a natural haven of beauty.

  • Whether you are interested in a tranquil beach day, or a thrilling action packed adventure, Lefkada is sure to keep you satisfied. Visit Porto Katsiki, one of the most spectacular locations the island has to offer. This unique beach is located in a secluded cove at the base of dramatic white cliffs.
  • If you are a thrill seeker, how about trying your hand at windsurfing in Vassiliki. Located in the south of Lefkada, the area’s high winds and waves make it a popular destination for windsurfers across the globe.
  • Also make sure to have your camera at the ready when you visit the town of Nydri. Located at the top of a slope, the village is a perfect place to gaze at the beauty of the Ionian islands. Bask in the golden Greek sunshine and then cool off in the glorious turquoise waters at Egremni Beach. Lefkada is sure to provide you with a memorable experience.

Santorini is a ‘Must-Visit’ when Seeking the Best Greek Islands Yacht Charter Experience

One of the most popular Greek islands, Santorini’s activities are endless. Located in the Aegean Sea, a powerful volcanic eruption in the 16th century BC shaped the island’s jagged landscape.

  • Santorini’s steep slopes offer breathtaking views of the island and the sea. By renting a quad bike, you’ll be able to easily travel throughout the island and take in the beautiful scenery. Explore the capital of Fira, the capital of Santorini, which is located opposite to the volcano. Famous for its blue-domed churches and winding alleyways, Fira is sure to leave a lasting impression
  • Furthermore, you can cruise to Nea Kameni and visit the volcano that created the sloped landscape of the island. Hike through Nea Kameni Volcanic Park and pass by smoking craters. At the top, you will be able to find some of the best views of the island.
  • Furthermore, you could visit the picturesque village of Oia, famous for its whitewashed buildings, synonymous with the beauty of Greece. Although small, this charming village provides you with an insight into the authentic Greek lifestyle. Sink your feet into the famous black sand of Perissa Beach, juxtaposed by the clear, glistening water.

Endless Opportunities to Explore

The Best Greek Islands Offer Unparalleled Experiences

Alonissos, located in the Aegean Sea, is the third island of the Northern Sporades island group.  The island is known for its picturesque beaches and local wildlife.

Best Greek Islands Yacht Charter – Things to Do and Highlights

  • Alonissos is one of Greece’s hidden gems, and exploring here awards you more peace and quiet than some of Greece’s busier islands.
  • Cool off in the refreshing water of Millia Beach. Surrounded by a luscious pine forest, this beach exudes a calming and tranquil aura.
  • Visit the stunning Blue Cave located between the beaches of Strovili and Lalarias. The reflection of the sunlight on the turquoise water creates a magical otherworldly aura.
  • In addition, witness nature up close in the island’s marine park. Here, you can swim alongside seals and dolphins, as well as learn about the local flora and fauna.

Corfu – Best Greek Islands Yacht Charter Experience

One of Greece’s largest islands and located in the Ionian Sea, Corfu’s enchanting landscape, vibrant towns and magical caves with provide you with a phenomenal experience.

  • Firstly, Corfu’s rich history sets the island apart from its counterparts. The island was under Venetian, French and British rule before it rejoined with Greece in the 19th century. This amalgamation makes for a unique and rich cultural heritage. Stroll through the Old Town and walk through the elegant Liston Promenade.
  • Experience the opulence of Achilleion Palace which was built for the impress of Austria in 1890. Feel like royalty as you stroll through the pristine palace gardens and admire the blossoming flowers and impressive statues of ancient Greek gods and goddesses.
  • To conclude, if you are a thrill seeker, why not spend the day at Aqualand waterpark? It has activities for both children and adults, making it the perfect day out for families. Corfu’s endless possibilities make it the perfect destination to explore during your luxury yacht charter.

Folegandros

This beautiful natural paradise, part of the Southern Cyclades island group, is known for its scenic hiking trails and secluded beaches.

  • Potter around the narrow streets of Chora Town. With quaint bars, high quality restaurants and unique trinket shops, each alley will show you a new endearing side to Chora.
  • If you are interested in Greek culture, then why not visit one of the exhibitions in Pounta Square, hosted by Folegandros Cultural Association? These spectacular exhibitions showcase the unique heritage of the Island. You can also visit the town of Ano Meria, a small village which boasts traditional folklore and authentic culture.
  • Lastly, spend some time on the secluded beach of Pountaki . Surrounded by a rocky cove, this beach is the epitome of tranquility and serenity.

Mykonos is a Popular Choice when Deciding the Best Greek Islands Yacht Charter

Mykonos is one of Greece’s most popular tourist destinations. Part of the Cyclades island group and located in the Aegean Sea, the island is famous for its sandy beaches and bustling nightlife

  • Firstly, people usually associate Mykonos with partying and nightlife. However Mykonos is also a treasure trove of culture, heritage and history.
  • Explore the windy streets of Mykonos Town, constructed on the edge of the bay. Here, you’ll discover Little Venice, where white-washed square houses with brightly colored balconies stand right at the water’s edge, reminiscent of its Italian namesake. We also suggest visiting the iconic windmills perched on the island’s hilltops.
  • In addition, visit the island of Delos, which is the mythological birthplace of the Greek God Apollo. Here, you can witness remnants of Ancient Greece, through the Archaeological Museum on the island as well as ancient amphitheaters, houses and markets. The Terrace of the Lions collection of statues are particularly impressive.
  • Lastly, nightlife is of course a huge part of the island’s charm. So visit Scorpios, an exclusive nightclub located on Paraga Beach, or Cavo Paradiso, which is built on a clifftop overlooking the sea.

Make Memories that Will Last a Lifetime

A luxury Greek yacht charter has it all!

Skiathos is part of the Northern Sporades island group and is located in the northwest Aegean Sea. The island is known for its beautiful natural landscape, youthful nightlife and serene beaches.

  • Firstly, although small, Skiathos has an abundance of character. Wander through the cobblestone lanes of Skiathos Town, where lively bars and restaurants spill out onto the streets.
  • For any ABBA fans, scenes from the film ‘Mamma Mia’ were filmed in Skiathos! For example, the infamous wedding scene at the chapel at the top of the mountain.
  • Furthemore, visit the secluded Lalaria Beach, which is only accessible by yacht. This makes it the perfect place for privacy. What better way to visit this beach than on your luxury yacht?

Ithaca – Best Greek Islands Yacht Charter Experience

Ithaca is one of Greece’s hidden gems. Relatively unknown to visitors, visiting Ithaca will provide a more peaceful and authentic experience compared to Greece’s more popular islands.

  • With miles and miles of lush forestry, Ithaca is the perfect destination for nature lovers. Explore the island on foot and hike through its forests. Each path will lead you to something new, from small churches to hidden bays.
  • Additionally, you could hike up to the Monastery of Panagia Kathariotissa, located at the highest point of the island.  The incredible views of the Ionian Sea from the top will be well worth the exercise. With the incredible wildlife of the island, it is no wonder this natural paradise is the home of the fictional hero Odysessus in Homer’s Odyssey.
  • Lastly, after a long day of hiking, why not lay out on the soft sand of Agios Ioannis Beach. Or why not have an aperitif at one of the beach bars? Stroll around the charming town of Kiona and enjoy some fresh seafood in one of the local restaurants.

OUR GUESTS SAY IT BEST

“We were 2 couples on their brand new Saona catamaran for 7 nights. We thoroughly enjoyed our days at sea and our nights at port. We had breakfast and lunch on board and dinner ashore at a different island or port every night… It was a lovely experience and we recommend this company!”

“This is my second trip on Greek Seas. That should say it all. First trip was a week and this one was 10 days. Another Great experience this time with Kostas and Mary… Islands were great, food was fantastic. Mary is a food magician. Kostas knows the islands backwards and forwards and helped us choose the right islands. Definitely recommend this group if you want a trip of a life time.”

“We had a great week sailing around the islands. We’d never been sailing before and had no real idea what to expect. However the skipper was very knowledgeable and professional. We had our daughter with us and I felt at all times that our safety was his priority. We saw some fantastic sights as well as being asked what we wanted to get out of the holiday. I would recommend Greek Seas without hesitation.”

Choosing a skippered yacht charter, you also hire the skipper who will take care of the yacht for you and will ensure that you get the most out of your sailing holidays in Greece. When you select from our yachts for rent, keep in mind that you have to provide a cabin or berth in cabin for your skipper as he is obliged to sleep on board. Apart from the skipper’s fee, you have to also provide his meals either from the meals you prepare on board or at an eating place ashore. The skipper’s fee, regardless of the season and the people on board, is €140 to €190 depending on the yacht rental. You may wish to hire also a cook/hostess. The fee per day is generally 10 euro less than the skipper’s and you need to provide berth and meals as for the skipper. The running expenses for a skippered yacht charter are just like those of a bareboat charter (fuel, gas, water, meals, port/marina fees, etc.), plus the costs for the hired crew as above. Although some of our yacht rentals are offered only skippered (yacht charter prices include skipper’s fee), you may choose any of our bareboat charter yachts fitting your needs and let us know if you wish to have a skipper (select the check-box on the form of the yacht rental booking request).

The Greek unspoiled coastline and offshore islands have so many spectacular spots to visit that it is a natural start to any itinerary. Skippered yacht charter in Greece is all about your own private cruise where you can plan your own itinerary and visit exactly the places and attractions you want, from some of the world’s few truly iconic destinations to serene coves that are not accessible by land.

Want to experience a sizzling skippered sailing holiday in Greece?

With so many islands dotting the Greek archipelagos, the route options seem limitless. When you rent a boat with us you are free to compose your own itinerary.

Bigger Luxury Yachts

Opt for a high-value yacht in Greece for two simple reasons: they’re longer and they’re faster . It’s 140 nautical miles from Athens to Santorini. On a new yacht, that’s 10 hours and 3,000 liters of fuel. On an old one, it’s 16 hours and 12,000 liters of fuel. One way. With current gas prices – do you want to pay for the boat or the fuel ?

Plus, a luxury yacht has stabilizers – in motion and at anchor for the high-end ones. Sounds trivial? Think again. In August, with the Meltemi winds whipping through, you’ll need them to keep your guests from turning green .

On top of being faster and safer, luxury yachts will have   Hot Tubs , Spas , Jet Skis , an d Onboard Cinemas .

This image shows the sun deck of a luxury yacht, featuring a spacious and well-appointed outdoor lounge area. White, plush sofas and loungers are arranged invitingly on a sleek wooden deck. The deck offers ample space for relaxation and sunbathing, with towels neatly placed on each lounger. A woman in a white bikini reclines on a lounger, enjoying the sun and sea views. The railing ensures safety while providing an unobstructed view of the ocean, highlighting the exclusivity and comfort typical of luxury yacht charters in Greece. The text

Picture this: a sun deck on a luxury yacht. Spacious and sleek, it’s an outdoor lounge paradise. White, plush sofas and loungers arranged like a VIP invitation. Towels perfectly placed. A woman in a white bikini basking in the sun, sea views stretching beyond. The view keeps it exclusive. This is the private yacht charter life in Greece.

More Secluded Locations

New, upcoming Locations offer an alternative to the “by now dead romantic idea of Mykonos and Santorini.”   Antiparos is a hot charter   location frequented by Celebrities like Tom Hanks , Jeff Bezos , and Anderson Cooper .

Other top destinations are secluded islands such as Polyaigos and Folegandros , Kefalonia, and the Ionian islands , with the possibility of passing through the Corinth Canal, one of the world’s narrowest Canals!

Market Trends 2018-2024

  • Greece Rises to No. 1 Destination in Global Yacht Chartering

Greece went from being the 3rd most popular yacht charter destination in the world in 2019 to becoming the number 1 destination in 2021 , accounting for a whole 23% of the global market.

  • A Significant increase in the Number of Superyachts

In recent years, we have seen a 20% increase in the number of superyachts available for charter in Greece. The number of charter yachts available for use in Greece is estimated to be over 170,000 , where 6600 are for professional use. This number is expected to increase by 200-300 per year .

Line graph displaying the historical increase in professional-use yachts in Greece from 2018 to 2023. The graph shows a consistent annual growth of 200 yachts, starting from 6,000 in 2018 and reaching 7,000 by 2023, plotted against a vertical axis representing the number of yachts and a horizontal axis representing the years.

  • Recovering from the Impact of Global Events

The US has played a key role in supporting the luxury yachting sector in Greece, covering losses caused by the Russia-Ukraine Conflict. Furthermore, according to SETE , travelers felt safer chartering a recreational yacht than engaging in other forms of tourism during the pandemic. This led to an increase in charter activity , in contrast to a radical decrease in other tourist sectors.

  • Plans for Further Development of Infrastructure in Greece

Greece could generate up to 2.8 billion euros by 2031 through the development of 5,164 new berths in its marinas, as highlighted in data conducted by  diaNEOsis’   study . However, despite the significant potential, many tourist ports are underutilized, with only 22% operational , pointing to challenges in investment processes and infrastructure management.

  • More Luxury Yachts available Across Greece

Although predominantly concentrated in the Athens/Piraeus area , you will find luxury yachts available for charter in marinas all across Greece , including Thessaloniki , Chalkidiki , Skiathos , Volos , Mykonos , Corfu , and Rhodes .

How well do we know the yachts, we have first-hand experience.

At DMA Yachting, we are proud to have a team of individuals who not only work in the yachting industry but also live it. Many of our brokers have extensive experience with yachts, either working onboard charter yachts or even living onboard, sailing purely for fun, in everything from bay races to circumnavigations.

Our team’s firsthand experience is crucial—it means we’ve been in the shoes of both the crew and the clients. We understand the nuances of life at sea , which drastically differs from life on land.

DMA Yachting Owner and Charter Broker (to the right) talking to the Captain at the Med Yacht Show in Nafplion 2024

We Know What Questions to Ask

Understanding how yachts operate also allows our brokers to ask the right questions and spot the finest details during yacht inspections. This inside knowledge ensures that we know precisely what to look for , whether it’s gauging the quality of the onboard amenities or evaluating the professionalism of the crew . Our brokers aren’t just checking boxes; they’re assessing how each element contributes to the sublime experience our clients expect.

All our Brokers attend several yearly yacht shows

Participation in yacht shows is fundamental to our approach. By engaging directly with crews and industry professionals at events like the EMMYS and MEDYS , where our presence was notably strong this year, we exchange ideas, gather insights, and forge great connections. These interactions are invaluable as they allow us to refine our understanding of market trends and client expectations continuously.

This year’s yacht shows have been particularly inspiring, showcasing more and larger yachts , each maintaining exceptionally high standards of service. Our team returned with notebooks brimming with new knowledge, ready to apply these fresh insights to benefit our future clients.

ENDLESS SUMMER

Best time for a greek yacht charter.

While the summer months of June to August mark the high season for yacht charters in the Greek islands, the Mediterranean climate, characterized by warm temperatures and mild winters, allows for an extended time frame to secure your ideal yacht. For the best Greek islands charter experience, it is recommended to avoid months associated with heavy rainfall, extreme heat, and cold .

The periods of May-June and September-October present quieter and less crowded conditions for marinas, anchorages and general attractions. It is also less hot than at the hight of summer, when temperatures can reach over 30 degrees.

Additionally, charter rates during these months are notably more economical compared to the high season, particularly for sought-after destinations like Santorini and the Cyclades.

best greek island yacht charter

Considering the limited availability and high cost of berths for larger yacht charters, early booking is wise. This is especially important during peak season for the more popular marinas, such as the well-frequented Alimos Marina . It is advisable to plan well in advance, as some of the most desirable dates and luxury yachts are reserved up to two summers ahead .

Top 10 Greece Yacht Charter Destinations

Charter payment protection, insolvency protection, safe payment, muti-currency. lossless forex, low price guarantee, exclusive deals no hidden fees.

A Greece yacht charter  is the perfect way to see everything Greece has to offer, with an abundance of islands, Blue Flag certified beaches, UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and unique wonders around every corner.

A Greece yacht charter has been a strong favourite among sailors for over 10 years, with a variety of sailing areas, an area for every ability from beginner sailing to advanced professionals. The sailing areas of Greece are made up from the Ionian Islands , Saronic Islands, Sporades, Dodecanese, and the Cyclades, all of these are suitable for a Greece yacht charter .

Greece Yacht Charter Destinations

Each sailing area on a Greece yacht charter has small passages between islands (itinerary dependant), long routes to the mainland (if desired), award-winning beaches, small quaint villages, an abundance of marine life, and much more. Each collection of islands offers a unique Greece yacht charter, with each collection offering something different from the other.

With an abundance of choice, it can be hard to decide which area to sail on a Greece yacht charter, we have created this guide to the top 10 Greece yacht charter destinations to guide you and help you make your decision.

1. Zakynthos

3. skopelos, 8. nisyros island, 10. skiathos, white sand and blue water make shipwreck beach one of the most famous photos of greece.

Zakynthos or Zante as it is otherwise referred to as is well known around Europe for its party street, where thousands of holidaymakers visit each year. But Zakynothos isn’t just about the party street the island has much more to discover on a Greece yacht charter.

The main port and city is Zakynthos Town, with restaurants on the port front, an abundance of moorings, and shops to explore on a Greece yacht charter.

Zakynthos is most well known for Shipwreck Beach (Navagio Beach), which is a white sand beach with a rusted shipwreck. The beach is surrounded by tall cliffs, where there is a viewing platform so visitors can look down and admire the bright blue water. The only other way to visit the beach is by boat.

On a Greece yacht charter, you can explore Shipwreck Beach, the small unique and secluded beaches all around the island. Many of these beaches are hard to reach by car, so on a Greece yacht charter, you can explore caves, clear water, and drop anchor to enjoy one of the many beach bars.

An idyllic calm and peaceful Greece yacht charter destination

Another idyllic Greece yacht charter destination is Hydra which has captured the minds and souls of visitors since ancient times – still today the use of cars on the island is prohibited. Instead, you might opt to walk or use a donkey as your mode of transportation.

Hydra has a crescent-shaped harbour with several galleries, shops, and places to eat. The island only has a population of 1,900, so it will feel peaceful and charming.

Hydra has several hiking routes offering visitors the chance to hike up its steep paths and to look over the harbour. The island also has a strong fishing community, in addition to historic remains from the Venetian, Roman, and Ancient Grecian periods. There’s a reason this spot continues to become more and more popular every year with Greece yacht charters.

Quiet and calm relaxing island with fewer tourists than many other islands

Another Greece yacht charter destination worth visiting is Skopelos which is well-known for its beauty and for being the main hub of activity in the area.

Skopelos is slightly larger than other famous Greek islands, it also has a less-touristy feel and plenty of delicious places to eat. According to legend, the island was founded by the Greek god of grapes, Staphylos, and there is a vibrant wine culture here to prove it.

Skopelos was conquered by a number of empires throughout its history, giving it a unique feel and several dishes worth trying. It also is home to a number of ethnic groups, adding a fun flair to the village life, meaning lots to explore on a Greece yacht charter.

Lefkada is the fourth-largest Greek island with picturesque beaches and small villages

Lefkada also is known as Lefkas is an island located in the Ionian Sea. The island is connected to mainland Greece by a bridge, it is ideal for a Greece yacht charter in the Ionian Sea.

The island of Lefkada has azure blue water, white sandy beaches, natural beauties, historic sites, and museums. The main towns on the island are Nydri, the Venetian castle of Agia Mavra, the Dimosari waterfall, and other tourist attractions.

A Greece yacht charter in Lefkada is a great way to explore the island’s beaches, including Porto Katsiki, Egremni Beach, Kathisma, Agios Ioannis, Nydri, and Poros Beach.

The vibrant and rich green island of Rhodes, the capital of the Dodecanese

Rhodes is often referred to as a treasure in the Mediterranean with its beaches, valleys, history, thriving nightlife, along with the contrast of the ‘Old City’ and the new modern cosmopolitan city. It is a great place to explore on a Greece yacht charter or an ideal place to begin or end your Greece yacht charter.

The island of Rhodes is the largest of the Greek islands in the Dodecanese collection of islands. This is a great island for a Greece yacht charter with various beaches to anchor off and explore, such as Kallithea, Afandou, and Faliraki.

A cosmopolitan island with a rich cultural heritage

Corfu is an island in the Ionian Sea, which has stood the test of time. The island has been lived in and influenced by the Venetians, the French, and the British. This combination of cultures has made the island rich in history with a multi-cultural heritage.

The island of Corfu is an ideal island to begin or finish a Greece yacht charter in the Ionian, with plenty of time to explore the island before or after your charter.

Corfu town’s astonishing Venetian architecture will leave you absolutely speechless, and a walk through the castle and old fortress is one you won’t want to miss.

On the east side of the island, just south of Corfu town, you’ll find the lovely Benitses Bay, for a nice swim, or lunch ashore in traditional tavernas and cafes.

A remote island which is predominantly untouched by tourism

Nisyros Island has whitewashed houses and historic sites such as Paleokastro, an old fortress, and the remains of a 4th-century ancient city, perfect places for learning about history and discovering the island’s beauty on a Greece yacht charter.

The fishing village of Pali is one of the oldest settlements in the area and the village surrounded by the natural bay is a beautiful place to moor up to swim or relax with great views.

The island has some incredible and picturesque beaches, therapeutic baths, coves to explore and southeast of the village there are large dunes to explore on a Greece yacht charter.

A whitewashed paradise with serene natural wonders and a cosmopolitan feel

A Greece yacht charter in the Cyclades is not for the beginner sailors, it often has high winds and long passageways between islands. But for those advanced sailors, Mykonos is an ideal Greece yacht charter destination.

Mykonos is filled with whitewashed houses, with colourful doors, narrow marble streets, churches, and castles to explore. The waterfront and coastal areas of the island have beach azure waters, marine life, and great places to snorkel.

On a Greece yacht charter, Mykonos is a lively island with a variety of waterfront restaurants and bars. The island is home to a large number of dive schools and is a great place to moor or anchor your boat to snorkel or swim off the back of.

Over 60 beaches to enjoy and discover

On a Greece yacht charter, Skiathos is a small Greek island located in the Aegean Sea and is part of the Sporades group of islands.

Skiathos is one of the more populated islands in the Sporades islands, although this doesn’t distract from its natural beauty. Skiathos has over 60 beaches, with pine forests, and azure waters, the majority of the island is still unspoilt. The most famous beach on the island is Koukounaries which is often known as one of Greece’s most beautiful beaches.

This island is a great place to start a Greece yacht charter in the Sporades, as a base to explore the island before partaking in the rest of your itinerary.

With this helpful guide, you’ll be able to make the most of your Greek island-hopping yacht-holiday and enjoy a truly unique experience.

Island hopping adventure in the Greek Islands – Why Greece is the perfect destination?

Greece is one of the best places in the world for island hopping. With over 6,000 islands and islets scattered around the Aegean Sea and the Ionian Sea in close proximity, Greece has no shortage of beautiful coastlines and secluded coves to explore. The crystal-clear waters, picturesque harbors, and stunning beaches make the perfect backdrop for a yacht charter holiday. Plus, the Mediterranean climate makes it ideal for sailing and lounging in the sun with temperatures rarely falling under 18°C in Spring and Autumn, and well above 25°C in Summer. Whether you’re looking for a romantic retreat or an invigorating adventure, there’s something for everyone in Greece. Finally, the sailing culture of Greeks can make your Greek island hopping charter an even more enjoyable experience. From friendly locals to enthusiastic skippers, you’ll be able to explore the captivating shores of Greece with professionals that know the waters like their own back yard.

Island hopping in the Cyclades

The Cyclades are the most famous group of Greek islands and one of the best destinations for a sailing holiday. These islands are located in the center of the Aegean Sea and they are known for their beautiful beaches, picturesque villages, fascinating archaeological sites with ancient ruins, and lively nightlife. Island hopping here is a real adventure, full of surprises and you can easily sail from one island to the other in a day. The relatively small distances between the islands means that you don’t have to spend too much time sailing from one island to the other. Instead, you can spend more time enjoying the breathtaking views, crystal-clear waters, and beauties each island has to offer.

Keep in mind though, that the weather tends to be quite windy during the summer months, so you should take this into consideration when making your plans. Also, the fact that many of these islands are famous and popular, may lead to overcrowding in the heart of summer.

Island hopping in the Ionian

The Ionian islands are located in the western part of Greece and they offer a different kind of experience. With their world-famous turquoise beaches, tranquil seas, and lush green nature — these islands are perfect for those who wish to relax and explore the beauty of Greece. From secluded coves to wild mountain trails, Ionian islands have something for everyone. A yacht charter is one of the best ways to explore these islands and discover their hidden gems. Whether it’s sailing around Lefkada, discovering the beauty of Corfu, or exploring the serene island of Zakynthos — a yacht charter provides the perfect opportunity to travel in this beautiful part of Greece.

best greek island yacht charter

Island hopping in the Dodecanese

The Dodecanese islands can also offer an unforgettable experience. These islands are known for their unique architecture and interesting history, as well as their rugged beaches, and unspoiled nature. There are plenty of activities to indulge in on these islands, such as exploring the medieval castle of Rhodes, visiting the monastery of Saint John in Patmos, or tanning on one of the many beaches of Kos. A yacht charter allows you to explore the Dodecanese in a relaxed and comfortable way. There’s also the opportunity to discover some of the smaller islands that are often overlooked by large tourist crowds, making it a perfect option for those who seek small-crowd locations.

best greek island yacht charter

Island hopping in the Sporades

The Sporades islands are renowned for their peaceful ambiance and stunning natural beauty, offering the perfect escape to a sailing enthusiast. This is the perfect destination if you prefer secluded places without the large flocks of tourists that tend to arrive during the summer months in Greece. You should expect a truly local experience accompanied by heartwarming Greek hospitality. The Sporades are generally an easygoing destination. However, keep in mind that Skiathos island offers a more vibrant nightlife that attracts a lot of younger people. If you prefer serenity, focus on the islands of Skopelos, Alonissos, and Skyros instead.

best greek island yacht charter

Island hopping in the Saronic

The Saronic islands are the perfect location for those who are looking for a combination of cosmopolitan vibes and yacht culture. Located close to Athens, this area offers a good mix of both nature and island life. A yacht charter here will give you access to some of the most beautiful islands in Greece such as Aegina, Poros, Hydra, and Spetses. Hydra is especially popular among those looking to relax, as it’s the only island in Greece where cars are forbidden. Island hopping in the Saronic Gulf can be actually quite cheap compared to other regions in Greece, especially during the off-season period, since it’s close to Athens (lower cost for fuel) and the majority of the islands are comparatively close to each other.

Other destinations in greece to choose from.

Visiting Greece you’ll find out that there are countless places to choose from and you should not limit your options. Other popular sailing locations with a yacht include:

Crete is the largest island in Greece and one of the largest in the Mediterranean. Located in the southernmost part of the Aegean, Crete is a paradise for those looking to sail with a yacht. Its rich history is unlike any island in Greece and that is also true about the local cuisine. Crete is also home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world like Elafonissi and Balos.

You should expect that you’ll need at least a 5 day visit to get a glimpse of this majestic island so this is maybe not the best selection for those who want to discover a lot of new places in a short time.

best greek island yacht charter

There is a popular saying in Greece: There’s no other place like Halkidiki. And that is true!

Halkidiki is a beautiful region in Northern Greece, with its three peninsulas jutting out into the Aegean Sea. It’s known for its endless, sandy beaches and its lavish vegetation, making it a destination that doesn’t look like your typical Greek coastline, rather more like a tropical island.

best greek island yacht charter

The Peloponnese

The Peloponnese is an emerging region for yacht enthusiasts in Greece and offers a lot of diverse options to visitors. From exploring Byzantine castles, rugged nature, and picturesque villages to sailing around secluded coasts, you can expect a unique experience like no other.

Sailing-wise positioned in between the southernmost Ionian islands to the west and the islands of the Saronic Gulf to the east, the Peloponnese offers a diversity for those eager to explore very interesting, less common and less frequented destinations.

Your Sailing Options

Skippered yacht charters.

Chartering a yacht with a skipper in Greece is an ideal way to experience the beauty of this country. With an experienced skipper at the helm you can rest assured your safety is being taken care of and that all relevant rules and regulations are being followed, providing a hassle-free holiday experience as far as sailing the boat is concerned. Your skipper takes care of navigating, mooring, and sailing while you do all the rest, prepare meals, keep your boat clean, and assist your skipper with secondary duties as crew.

Crewed Yacht Charters

A crewed charter on the other hand, is a totally different ball game. On a crewed charter you have not just a Captain but a complete crew that will take care of you. For a yacht to accommodate crew, a team o people that look after the boat and the guests, a yacht needs to be considerably bigger than the average sailboat. Therefore we are looking at vessels that are mostly motor-yachts that also cost more to charter and to run.

With a crewed charter, you can rest assured that the whole experience will be taken care of by professionals. Some of the additional benefits include having a personal chef who will prepare delicious meals for you and your guests; expert sailors to navigate away from any potentially dangerous waters or obstacles; capable hosts to ensure everyone is well looked after; a mechanic on board to maintain the proper function of the engines; and of course, an experienced Captain who is available to give expert instruction and guidance.

As you can imagine, a crewed charter is more of a luxury option compared to a skippered charter. So, if you want to sail Greece in style on a luxury yacht, a crewed yacht charter is the way to go. At Vernicos Yachts we can guide you and help you make the choice that suits you best. We offer a variety of luxury crewed yachts that are available for charter.

Greek Island Hopping with a Yacht Charter – Important Tips for the Best Vacation Experience

  • Travel light: Forget the large suitcases with many clothes and accessories. When you are onboard you will soon find out for yourselves that the majority of your possessions will never be used. However, have at least two bathing suits available since you will be constantly in and out of the sea. Also, carry a light jacket with you since evenings get colder on the Greek islands, especially if strong winds are present.
  • Plan your trip ahead: Deciding on which parts you should visit during your vacation can be tricky. Spend some time to know what different regions of Greece have to offer and make the right choice.
  • Learn from a local guide: If you found the islands that you’re going to set sail to, invest in learning a thing or two about them. You could ask for information from a local guide so you can find all the cool beaches and restaurants that you will visit. Don’t expect to learn everything whilst onboard.
  • Pack enough food and drinks: Your charter agent or broker will probably help you make the necessary arrangements, but if you are a large group of people, if you are planning to spend a lot of time at sea, and you have special requests, then make the proper arrangements ahead of time.
  • Choose your trip: Deciding on which islands to visit is one thing, and making a plan with your skipper is another. Discuss your options with your skipper so you can agree what is practically feasible and make the best out of your sailing experience.
  • Time of the year: Summer, spring, or early autumn? There are many different periods that you can visit Greece for island hopping. Summer is a popular period to sail but during spring and autumn, you can find great discounts. The choice is yours.
  • Mooring fees: Mooring fees vary from port to port in Greece and the more places you visit, the more you are going to spend.
  • Don’t get “cheap” on the number of days that you will spend on holiday: Two weeks is the ideal time to invest in your vacation but for the majority of people this is just wishful thinking. However, you should consider that sailing takes time and this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for many.
  • Wear sunscreen: This may sound like a piece of obvious advice but this is a highly important one. Spending time on a yacht means a lot of sun exposure and the Sun is scorching hot in Greece, especially during the Summer.

And last but not least, enjoy! You are about to embark on an amazing journey, and you should make the most out of your vacation. Relax, live the moment, and create unforgettable memories. That is what sailing in Greece is all about.

Vernicos Yachts wishes you a pleasant and safe journey!

The very best places to charter in Greece

Published 19 September 2024

Quaint white washed villages, windswept islands, clear blue waters, protected harbours and pristine beaches — Greece is a yachting playground for good reason. There are a wealth of places in Greece to discover on a yacht charter, from iconic islands like Santorini to lesser-visited petite islands and exploring the coast of the mainland. On a Greek yacht charter, you can find yourself the sole vessel moored in front of a quiet beach you can only reach by boat, dance the day away at a Mykonos beach club or visit historic archaeological sites. No matter your interests, stepping on board a private yacht in the Greek islands can take you there.

The Cyclades Islands

From the clifftop views of Santorini to the boho-chic atmosphere on Mykonos, the Cyclades stand out among the best places to charter in Greece. But even beyond these iconic locales, there are a plethora of smaller isles that deserve your time and are easy to visit on a Cyclades island yacht charter.

Coast of Mykonos

With soul-stirring sunsets, black-sand volcanic beaches, historical sites and photo-worthy vistas, Santorini is one of the most sought after islands in the Cyclades. Mykonos is a favourite as well, thanks to its vibrant nightlife (and daytime) party scene, high-end restaurants and beautiful anchorages framed by perfect beaches.

Other islands not to miss in the Cyclades include Paros, which has charming villages and the ideal conditions for windsurfing or kitesurfing. Milos is famed for its dramatic landscape, highlighted by caves and cliffs which can be explored by boat. Of course, Greece is also renowned for its dining, and on the laidback island of Sifnos you can sample octopus bruschetta and grilled squid at its seaside tavernas.

The Saronic Islands

Sailing in Greece from Athens to the Saronic islands is such a quick jaunt that  it ’ s  no wonder that many escape the capital city to visit. The Saronic Islands and surrounding coastline are  home to many second homes for Athenians, such as the island of  Septses , where  you ’ ll  find plenty of luxe boutiques, art galleries and fine dining eateries.  The island ’ s grand mansions and horse-drawn carriages add a touch of elegance .

Meanwhile, the nearby island of Hydra is  totally devoid  of cars and exudes an  old world  charm  —  not to mention unparalleled sunset views from its hillside bars overlooking the sea. Hydra has long been known as an artist ’ s haven, attracting everyone from Jeff Koons to Henry Miller, and this bohemian, artsy vibe is still felt.

Hydra, greece

About an hour from Athens,  Poros combines lush pine forests with a vibrant waterfront dotted with  neoclassical architecture,  upscale  cafes  and boutiques. Poros actually consists of two islands,  Sphairia  and  Kalaureia ,  which are  connected by a small bridge. The island is also home to historical sites like the Temple of Poseidon  —  dating back to 520 BC, the temple offers a glimpse into the island's rich history.

A more modern landmark is the clock tower, built in 1927, that watches over  Poros town. Poros offers a  winning  blend of natural beauty, historical significance  and a laidback atmosphere, perfect for a luxurious destination  when embarking on a sailing Greek yacht charter.

The Dodecanese Islands

Further away from mainland Greece  are  the Dodecanese Islands, which are  actually closer  to the coast of  Turkey  than Athens. The archipelago has 15 larger islands and another 150 smaller islands. Larger islands in the chain include Kos,  Patmos  and Rhodes, to name a few.  There ’ s  also the chance to combine a visit here with a cruise along  Turkey ’ s  stunning coastline.

Lindos acropolis

Rhodes, Lindos

With 300 days of sunshine per year, the island of Rhodes welcomes more sunshine than any other Greek island. But it’s more than the sunny weather that makes Rhodes an ideal Greek yacht charter destination. The largest of the Dodecanese Islands, Rhodes boasts a winning blend of ancient history, cosmopolitan charm, and natural beauty.

There are quite a few sites of historical significance to be found on the island, such as the Palace of the Grand Master in Rhodes Old Town, which now houses a museum. In the picturesque village of Lindos on Rhodes, an enormous castle-like structure known as the Acropolis of Lindos is perched atop a steep cliff, showcasing sweeping views of the surrounding sea and the village below.

Lindos village itself is a labyrinth of winding, narrow streets that are bursting with traditional tavernas and chic boutiques, while the long, sandy strip of Lindos’s main beach is ideal for families with its calm and shallow water.

Set in the northeast of the Aegean Sea, Samos is a bewitching island home to ancient architecture, serene  beaches  and a bustling  harbour . The old port town of Pythagoreion is  winning of  the UNESCO World Heritage Site designation, thanks to its fortified walls that protect the port. History buffs will also enjoy exploring the  Tunnel of  Eupalinos , a n ancient aqueduct built in the 6th century BC, considered an engineering marvel of its time and the well-preserved Roman baths, a nod to when Rome ruled this island.

Heraion of Samos

Nature lovers will want to hike up to the  Potami  waterfalls or swim in the  crystal-clear  waters of  Lemonakia  beach. Samos is famous for its muscat wine, so wine aficionados will  want to make  to visit the Samos Wine Museum in  Malagari  to learn about  —  and sample  —  the island ’ s local wines. Charter yacht guests can also experience local festivals, including the Fishermen Festival in June and the Samos Wine Festival taking place later in the summer.

The Ionian Islands

Located off the west coast of mainland Greece, the  Ionian Islands   comprise  seven main islands: Corfu, Zakynthos, Kefalonia,  Lefkada , Ithaca, Paxos, and Kythira. These  serene cruising grounds are a popular spot for sailing Greece on a yacht charter, island-hopping along the way.  The   islands   here  are known for their verdant landscapes, beautiful beaches, and charming village s.

Corfu is a longtime getaway of the British elite, with a gorgeous stretch of coastline that one might mistake for the French Riviera with mansions dotting the shoreline and hillsides. Then on the island of Ithaca, you can step back into the time of Greek mythology on the mythical home of Odysseus and even visit the Cave of the Nymphs, a  mythological site associated with Homer ’ s Odyssey.

Assos' Venetian heritage can still be seen

Kefalonia, Assos

On the largest of the Ionian islands, Assos is a small, idyllic village is set on a narrow isthmus that connects to a rocky peninsula, surrounded by the azure waters of the Ionian Sea. With buildings painted in bright pastel colours, balconies draped in bright bougainvillea flowers, and narrow cobbled streets, it can easily be argued that this is one of the most charming villages in all of the Ionian islands. Adding to this level of beauty is the ruins of the Assos Castle, set on a hillside overlooking the village. A hike up to the 16th century Venetian-built castle will reward you with views of the town and sparkling sea beyond.

The largest of all the Greek islands, Crete is known for its diverse terrain, from rugged mountains to pristine beaches, its charming towns and luxurious accommodations ashore. In Chania old town, on the northwest corner of the island, you can wander through narrow alleys lined with Venetian and Ottoman architecture that’s brimming with boutiques and welcoming tavernas.

This side of Crete is also home to many wow-worthy beaches where you can drop anchor and enjoy an al fresco meal taking in the views. Step ashore in Elafonissi Beach — known for its pink sand and clear turquoise waters, it’s one of the most beautiful beaches in Greece. Hikers will enjoy a ramble up to dramatic sights of Samaria Gorge.

Samaria Gorge, Crete

On the eastern end of the island, mountainous vistas seem to tumble into the sea. Cruise into the protected harbour of Elounda, which hosts upscale hotels and exclusive villas on shore, and visit Vai Beach, famous for its palm forest, the largest in Europe, and a beautiful sandy beach.

The Peloponnese Peninsula

The Peloponnese Peninsula,  located  in southern Greece, is a region rich in history, natural  beauty  and cultural heritage. On a Greek yacht charter around the Peloponnese   Peninsula , you can step onshore to visit ancient sites and medieval towns. A few not-to-miss historical sites here include Ancient Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games, where you can see the ancient stadium and learn about its history in an excellent archaeological museum. The ruins of Epidaurus are  renown  for ancient theater with exceptional acoustics, which is still used for performances today, and the Sanctuary of Asclepius.

Nafpilo nestles between the hillside and the sea

A charming seaport town with neoclassical architecture, the Palamidi Fortress, and the Bourtzi Castle on an islet in the harbour, Nafplio is an ideal base for a luxurious yacht charter. Known for its beautiful harbour lined with elegant buildings, waterfront eateries and charming old town, it’s a winning port of call during a Greek yacht charter. From Nafplio, you can easily reach beautiful nearby islands and coastal areas such as Spetses, Hydra and the Argolic Gulf’s hidden coves and beaches.

The Sporades Islands

Located in the northwest Aegean Sea, the Sporades Islands are a group of lush, green islands known for their pristine beaches,  crystal-clear   waters  and quaint villages. The main islands in the Sporades include Skiathos,  Skopelos ,  Alonissos  and Skyros. The island of  Skopelos  is  somewhat famous   as  being one of the main filming locations for the film  Mamma Mia!   starring Meryl Streep.  Skopelos  is renowned for its lush pine forests, beautiful beaches and scenic landscapes , and its wealth of  natural beauty was  showcased  in the movie .

The Sporades Islands

The nearby island of  Alonissos  is home to the National Marine Park of Alonissos and Northern  Sporades, a protected area known for its rich marine life, including the endangered Mediterranean monk seal. Fittingly, the island offers excellent diving opportunities, including  numerous  underwater caves and shipwrecks. Skiathos boasts  more than  60 stunning beaches, including the famous Koukounaries  Beach with its golden sand and turquoise waters.  The island of Skyros  is known for its rich cultural heritage, traditional crafts and the famous Skyrian  ponies.

Don't forget Mainland Greece

While the many island chains of Greece can steal the limelight, one should not overlook the charms of mainland Greece. Most Greek yacht rentals will include a visit to Athens. The capital of Greece is steeped in history and feels a bit like an open air museum with ancient landmarks are on display.

Visit the Acropolis, a UNESCO World Heritage site, to see iconic structures like the Parthenon, Erechtheion, Temple of Athena Nike and the Propylaea. Stroll through Plaka, the picturesque old neighbourhood of Athens. And indulge in Greek cuisine at one of the many rooftop eateries that overlooks the city, with views of the Acropolis lit up in the background at night.

The Parthenon temple and Acropolis citadel dominate the Athens skyline

Other places on mainland Greece well worth the visit include the coast of Parga, located  on the northwestern corner of the country, which stands out for its hillside monastery, postcard-perfect  harbour  and long stretches of beach.

Greece

Charter company Sunsail has unveiled its newest charter/flotilla offerings, including a week’s voyage from Dubrovnik, Croatia, and a new flotilla route from Lefkas, Greece. Departures will be available starting in summer 2025.

“Libertas” Flotilla in Dubrovnik, Croatia

Libertas, which means freedom, is the theme of Sunsail’s new flotilla from Dubrovnik in Croatia, which includes a packed schedule where guests follow in the footsteps of famous explorers as they sail along the Dalmatian Coast. Guests will have the opportunity to experience the unique tidal lakes of Mljet National Park, catch some rays on the many beautiful beaches and enjoy a short island hop in the week-long sailing adventure.

The adventure starts in the medieval walled city of Dubrovnik Old Town, where guests can explore the bustling streets and history of the iconic Croatian town before island hopping around the country’s coastline.

“This new flotilla is a great entry point for those who are new to sailing, while being perfect locations for families and groups who want to explore somewhere new,” said Caroline Barbour, UK marketing manager for Sunsail. “The flotilla route also offers new and experienced sailors the chance to relish in both old and new Croatia, whilst immersing themselves in the breathtaking views and experiences of the stunning islands, coupled with the options of watersports activities and delicious eateries.”

Dubrovnik

Day Three – Polače, Mljet Island: Journey across the Adriatic Sea to Polače on Mljet Island, navigating the stunning coastline and crystal-clear waters, with the rugged beauty of the Croatian islands all around. Upon arrival, a serene bay surrounded by lush greenery awaits, perfect for a refreshing swim and snorkeling, among the tranquil atmosphere and camaraderie of fellow sailors.

Day Six – Okuklje, Mljet Island: Sail on the glassy Adriatic Sea to the island of Mljet, passing through a small gulf between the tree-topped islets of Otok Olipa and Otok Jakljan, before entering the sheltered bay of Okuklje. Swimming and snorkeling are highly recommended.

At time of press, prices quoted for a one-week Libertas Dubrovnik Flotilla, departing in summer 2025, start from approximately $2,400 (with the Early Booking Offer), based on two people, and includes a fully equipped Sunsail monohull, flotilla fee, tourism tax, support from a lead yacht, assistance with moorings at each stop and marine park permit. At each daily morning briefing, the lead crew advises on the day’s sailing, ideal routes, weather conditions and hidden gems to discover.

Kefalonia Flotilla in Lefkas, Greece

Flotilla guests in Lefkas

Sunsail has also introduced a new flotilla route for Lefkas, Greece, from the summer of 2025. The new route will take guests from Lefkas Marina through Sivota in Lefkada into Kefalonia and Vathi, Meganissi, before returning to Lefkas again. The seven-day trip explores the historic islands and sparkling Ionian Sea, featuring sheltered anchorages, calm conditions and spectacular views. Currently, prices start from approximately $3,700 (with the Early Booking Offer) for two people across seven days.

“We have refined our ever-popular Lefkas flotilla, offering guests even more opportunity to explore Greece’s Ionian Coast and many of the Islands, including the imposing ruins of the medieval Santa Maura Fortress, exhilarating watersports the island is loved for, or simply to relax on the quiet beaches,” said Barbour.

Sunsail urges that its flotillas are ideal for first-time sailors and families, where guests can experience the Ionian’s most unmissable sights with a group of new friends.

Fall Is Actually the Best Time To Visit These Greek Islands

Visiting the Cyclades during shoulder season is when you'll have them to yourself.

Greek Islands

Ask a few New Yorkers where they’re going for the summer, and you’ll usually notice a theme. Summer is one of the best times to escape Manhattan and its surrounding boroughs, and city dwellers are zeroed in on the best places to seek refuge—it’s usually somewhere with a great beach. For summer 2024, Greece was one of the most popular destinations to visit, and more specifically, the Greek Cyclades Islands, a surrealistic cluster of 200 inhabited islands in the Aegean Sea, each with its unique personality, all accessible by ferry. You can visit just one or plan a trip to multiple islands in one go. While summer is undoubtedly a great time to visit the area, fall is when those in the know plan a vacation there. Crowds are sparser, the sea breeze is stronger, and in some cases, you’ll feel like you have the islands all to yourself. But with hundreds of localized towns, deciding which ones to visit for the first or even second time can be tricky. You’ll want to return to some repeatedly, while others will be in your memories for years. But one thing is sure—you’ll never get tired of the country's picturesque Mediterranean landscape, fresh seafood and local olive oils, exceptional wines, and heartwarming people. Here are the best Greek Islands to visit this fall—from the closest to Athens to the farthest—plus where to stay and what to put on the itinerary.

Athens Riviera

If you’re starting in Athens and want a few days to rest and recoup before you head off to the islands but don’t want to limit yourself to staying in the city's center, the Athenian Riviera—about a 45-minute drive from Athens International Airport—is the best area to stay. Located on the coast in the southern suburbs of Athens, you’ll be less than 10 miles from downtown, so you can still easily take in the ancient history of the Acropolis, Ancient Agora, and the streets of Plaka but still feel like you’re kicking off the seaside vacation with chic accommodations directly on the water. The Four Seasons Astir Palace Hotel Athens is the best new place to stay for that—and it’s so secluded you almost feel like you shouldn’t know about it. Luxurious rooms and villas, many with sea views, are much bigger than you’d get in the nearby city. Plus, if you’ve been to Athens before and want to stay tucked away from the hubbub, the resort is an excellent option with an intimate beach club set directly on the Riviera, an expansive pool, and a spa. Plus, there are multiple restaurants, including a traditional-style Greek Taverna 37, where you can order classical dishes like moussaka, souvlaki, and octopus. When you’re ready to explore your next destination, you’re only half an hour from the Port of Piraeus to hop on a ferry or can easily head back to the Athens airport for a quick flight to the islands.

Como Two-Tone Floral Swimsuit

Kéa Island, locally known as Tzia, is so under the radar that some Athenians haven’t even heard about it. But within 45 minutes of Athens via ferry, it’s an extremely accessible destination and a great place to begin your island hopping journey. What’s been described as a “weekend” destination for locals, similar to the Hamptons for Manhattanites, the island, which has a year-round population of only about 3,000 people, is comprised of a hilly, primarily dry terrain. It makes for really picturesque 360-degree views of the Aegean Sea, and rain is rarely in the forecast. Located at the peak of one of those hills lies the idyllic newly opened One & Only Kéa Island property nestled into the cliffside, sitting on a naturally formed peninsula. The serene structure blends perfectly with the surroundings studded with one-bedroom villas, all with private pools and homes that are so incredibly chic you’ll find yourself promptly googling the name of the architect (it’s John Heah, known for his impeccable design ethos behind luxe properties like Aman). Filled with vast, airy open spaces, the lobby and restaurant are a full indoor-outdoor experience with expansive sea views beneath. Their Bond Beach Club is situated directly on the water, a destination for guests and locals alike that is accessible by boat and offers a great way to spend the day and have a beachside lunch. A state-of-the-art spa also utilizes the Greek concept of sophrosyne, emphasizing balance and soundness of mind.

During your stay, you must visit the charming town of Kéa, which is filled with narrow winding alleys and dotted with local artisan and pottery shops. Visit the summer home-turned-studio of the legendary Greek artist Alekos Fassianos , whose tiny home on a hill has been preserved just as he left it after passing in 2022. Authentic cuisine, like freshly caught fish and robust veggie dishes, is easy to come by in the town at the local eateries, and for a special dinner, join Atria’s open-air kitchen , where they produce specialty dishes and live entertainment from local musicians. Visit the speakeasy just steps away for some Metaxa, a Greek brandy that's often enjoyed after dinner.

Either a half-day ferry or a 45-minute flight from Athens, Paros is one of the fastest-growing islands in the Cyclades, and much of its popularity has to do with the fact that the island holds something for everyone. Whether you want to experience the party life of Mykonos or have a taste of the local life, you can do it all on the island, which comprises beaches, mountains, and old relics from the sixth century B.C. The larger port towns of Naousa and Parikiai are lively day and night with great independently owned boutiques—Saline Shop is a must-visit in Naousa—and cafés and restaurants lining the port. For a central hotel location equidistant to both main towns, stay at Andronis Minois , a 44-room boutique hotel designed in the quintessential Cycladic style of architecture with white facades, Mediterranean sea views, and beautiful bougainvillea landscaping.

While Andronis Minois is centrally located and has great amenities like a beautiful pool you can easily lay by all day long, renting a car allows you to explore the island independently, and there are lots of old towns, like Lefkes and beaches—like Faragas, Kolymbithres, Santa Maria and Golden Beach— to check out during your stay. For a day trip from Paros, you can also hop on a 7-minute ferry and head into Antiparos, the tiny Greek island next door that’s a favorite amongst celebrities like Tom Hanks (who owns a home there). For a half or full-day excursion, book a daybed at Soros Beach Club —one of the best, if not the best beach in Antiparos. Alternatively, you can book a boat charter— Seacret Cruises is a great one—and explore hidden coves, beaches, and landmarks accessible only by water.

Known for its specialty cheeses and locally produced wine, Paros is also a great eating destination for foodies. Arodo , a tiny local beach club and restaurant where you’ll practically eat on top of the ocean, has excellent seafood, pasta, and a million-dollar sunset view. Perched up on a hill, Anthi Meze in the small port town of Piso Livado serves traditional Greek recipes, like stuffed peppers and spinach pies, all homemade. For a special dinner looking over Parasporos Beach, book a table at Olvo Restaurant that utilizes the local flavors of Paros and nearby islands for dishes like Greek salad, fresh fish, and seafood.

Unsurprisingly, people are drawn to Santorini for its jaw-dropping views and picturesque white-and-blue buildings carved into the Caldera’s cliffside like something straight out of a fairy tale. The town that’s a bucket-list destination for many can get crowded in the high summer months, but fall lends a quieter experience, especially if you can find places off the beaten path but with all the charming qualities you would want from visiting Santorini. With most of the main attractions happening in the two main towns of Oia and Fira (a scenic 2-hour hike from one to the other is a popular activity), staying adjacent to them (but not necessarily in them) is always a good choice, within walking distance to restaurants and shops but not smack dab in the middle. Andronis Arcadia’s luxurious resort-style property has a great location, catty corner to Oia, just a stroll from the Caldera side, with all the luxuries of a five-star resort. Rooms are modern and spacious, with private plunge pools and the largest pool for guests in Santorini, overlooking the Aegean sea; plus, it has excellent sunset views and two popular restaurants. Again, this is another place you could spend the day by the pool(s)—there are several—but there are a few must-visit places to check off first.

One is the nearby Ammoudi Bay, a small port town located 278 steps below Oia. It's lined with seafood restaurants and a great swimming hole with a popular rock formation to jump off. It’s also a popular spot for boat tours, and chartering one is a great way to see the volcano by water, visit hidden beaches—like the red beach or the blue—and swim in the hot springs.

If you’re looking for something other than sand and surf, the brand-new Ftelos Brewery Santorini is worth stopping for a flight of their latest craft beers, from German-style lagers to in-house flavors like hibiscus saison. There’s an expansive outdoor terrace and rooftop, and the food at their onsite MALT restaurant is not to be overlooked, serving unique dishes like anchovies stuffed with cheese from the nearby island of Naxos and homemade spaghetti and octopus with Greek saffron.

For other memorable meals on the island and easier reservations to secure in the fall, visit Metaxi Mas , a Greek tavern perched on a hill in Exo Gonia village with authentic Greek fare. The Good Heart , a family tavern with a fresh seasonal menu near the village of Akrotiri, and The Dolphins , a small fish tavern located directly on the water. The popular Beef Bar restaurant also has a location in Santorini, offering a serene setting for dinner, and serves up some of the best beef dishes, but with a local twist, like Kobe gyros, Greek salad, and fresh lobster tacos.

Whether you are after unbridled escapism, dramatic landscapes, world-class diving or beautiful cuisine, these island jewels promise to deliver on every front, making these our top picks for a truly memorable yacht vacation this summer.

Kefalonia, Ionian Islands

Best for: scenic landscapes, exotic beaches and pastel-hued villages.

With lush pine-clad mountains peppered with charming colorful villages, not to mention profusion of exotic beaches, medieval castles and mysterious caves, it's a small wonder Kefalonia has claimed the coveted title of Best Greek island in a recent Which? survey.

Picturesque village of Assos in Kefalonia, Ionian Islands

As the largest island in the Ionian archipelago , west of mainland Greece, Kefalonia has a mesmerizing beauty that is almost unparalleled. The high mountainous peaks and dreamy coves, that provided the iconic setting for Louis de Bernières’ novel Captain Corelli’s Mandolin , as well as its eponymous award-winning film, instantly captures the imagination.

Beautiful Melissani Cave in Kefalonia, Greece

It is also the only Greek island to boast a national park, rich in biodiversity, including an indigenous fir species that makes up two-thirds of the park’s abundant flora. Nature-loving charter guests will bask in the serenity of this emerald isle with its profusion of golden beaches, pastel-hued villages and winding forest trails.

Don't Miss:

  • Melissani Cave - located on the island’s eastern flank, you’ll find a beautiful clear turquoise lake set within a magical cave, with an oculus in the roof that illuminates the cave’s interior providing a shimmering light show that has to be seen to be believed.
  • Myrtos Beach - an idyllic, highly-instagramable bay bordered by limestone cliffs, where charter guests can dive into unbelievable turquoise-blue waters, perfect for swimming and snorkeling. As the light fades, the beach also presents a picturesque backdrop for cocktail sundowners.
  • Assos - nestled in a sheltered cove, overlooked by the ruins of a medieval castle, lies the exquisite village of Assos , a curved amphitheater of pretty confectionery-colored Venetian houses set against a backdrop of lush hillsides and craggy distant mountains.

Skiathos, Sporades archipelago

Best for: beautiful beaches, vibrant nightlife and island hopping.

Lying within the Sporades archipelago in the Aegean Sea, famed for its beautiful beaches and energetic night scene, Skiathos is a uniquely charming island that ticks every box.

Skiathos town and harbor in Greece

Visitors flock here from all over the globe, attracted by the scenic landscapes and myriad selection of beaches – over 60 in fact, with the best concentrated on the island’s southern flank. The most popular among these are Koukounaries and Banana beach, the latter being the most popular among the young and the beautiful.

Lalaria beach is another perennial favorite, featuring an iconic rock arch that, according to legend, offers those who swim under it the highly-prized gift of eternal youth. For something a little more secluded, the beach of Agia Eleni on the southwestern tip plays host to some of the most sensational sunsets in the Aegean.

Skiathos old town in Greece

The island itself offers plenty of activities, with the cosmopolitan capital of Skiathos Town (Chora) providing the main draw. Here, cafes, bars and restaurants spill onto the streets in a lively confluence set along the picturesque Old Harbor. There are also a number of waterfront open-air clubs promising balmy nights and legendary beach parties.

The island is also a great jumping off point to nearby islands ripe for exploration, including the beautiful isles of Skopelos and Alonissos .

  • Papadiamanti Street  - stroll the narrow, cobbled streets lined with whitewashed houses trimmed in bright blue, where you can indulge your inner Imelda Marcos among the designer stores and boutiques.
  • Bourtzi peninsula - head to this tiny enclave in the port of Skiathos, which boasts a 13th Century Venetian Castle, along with beautiful views of the harbor.
  • Skopelos - for film buffs among you, the nearby idyllic island of Skopelos offers the chance to experience the magical setting for the Abba hit musical Mamma Mia , which catapulted Greece’s hidden gem onto the world's stage.

Corfu, Ionian islands

Best for: beautiful architecture, pretty beaches and lush landscapes.

Situated in the northern reaches of the Ionian archipelago, Corfu bears a timeless beauty defined by its verdant, rugged landscapes and idyllic coves and beaches, that has been a siren call for romantics and creatives over the centuries.

Beautiful bay in Paleokastritsa in Corfu island, Greece

Inhabited since the Paleolithic era, Corfu has a long and fascinating history. Strategically positioned between Italy and its East Mediterranean cousins of Croatia and Montenegro , it has been variously conquered by a number of rulers, including the Venetians, French and British, resulting in a melting pot of cultural influences that can be seen in its beautiful architecture, noble palaces and unique local traditions.

Corfu Old Town in Greece

The island’s charm was brought back into the spotlight with the successful TV biopic, The Durrells , where the charming dilapidated family dwelling and surrounding lush landscapes served to pique the interest of ardent travelers the world over.

Beautiful view over the sea beach in Corfu island, Pelion, Mylopotamos, Greece

On a Greece yacht charter, this Ionian jewel has a vast wealth of cultural pursuits on offer, from beautiful hiking trails leading to picturesque inland villages, age-old olive groves and imposing cliff-top Venetian castles to meandering wide Parisian-style promenades, with something to admire on every corner.

If history isn’t your thing, Corfu has countless comely beaches on which to spend your days, and is also a great dive spot, boasting beautiful clear waters teeming with reefs, intriguing underwater caves and old shipwrecks.

  • Corfu Town - flanked by two majestic Venetian fortresses, this cobblestone capital is an important UNESCO Heritage site awash with beautiful Italian-esque architecture, labyrinthine alleys and one of the largest esplanade squares in Europe, second only to Venice ’s St Mark's Square.
  • Angelokastro - forming the ruins of a beautiful Byzantine fortress set atop a precipitous rocky peak north of Paleokastritsa , the views alone are well-worth the climb.
  • Mon Repos Villa - once the summer residence of the former Greek royal family, the small palace, built by renowned British Commissioner Fredrick Adams as a gift to his Corfiot wife Nina, lies within the forest of Palaeopolis and is a must-visit on your tour of the island.

Mykonos, Cyclades

Best for: legendary parties, iconic scenery and exclusive ambience.

Surely no other island in Greece offers such unbridled hedonism coupled with barefoot luxury and jet-setter lifestyle than Mykonos ? Known as the Capri of Greece, the crowning jewel of the Cyclades is famed for its exclusive ambience and legendary parties from dusk till dawn.

Windmills in Mykonos at sunset, Greece

Boasting serious jet-setter vibes, this achingly hip island attracts some of the world’s most elite personalities, who come to be wined, dined and entertained in pulsating night clubs and on beaches presided over by world-class DJs for the ultimate summer party atmosphere.

On a Mykonos yacht charter , most of the action usually centres around the famous beaches of Paradise and Super Paradise , where sugar sands play host to a tangle of bronzed limbs throughout the peak summer months.

For something a little more exclusive, there are a number of ultra-chic beach clubs – from the resplendent Nammos resort featuring its own designer shopping village, to the boho-glam  Scorpios owned by London’s prestigious private members club Soho House – where entrance guarantees you’ll be rubbing shoulders with celebrities and VVIP clientele who flock to these swanky clubs during July and August.

Mykonos is not all about the parties, there are plenty of tourist gems to visit while you’re here, from its iconic windmills and labyrinthine whitewashed alleyways to idyllic isolated coves with gin-clear waters bathed in iridescent Aegean light, it is a private yacht charter paradise.

  • Little Venice - With their footings firmly ensconced in the sea bed, these quaint 18th Century houses in Mykonos’ capital Hora have been converted into exclusive bars and restaurants, with balconies overlooking the sea offering prime seats to some of the most spectacular sunsets in the Mediterranean .
  • Nammos - attracting an ever-revolving roster of celebrities, this ultra-exclusive beach club, fringed by the sugar-soft sands of Psarou Beach , offers patrons a glamorous see-and-be-seen party vibe. Expect flowing champagne, world-class DJ sets and all-out party action.
  • Delos - considered the birthplace of Apollo, this tiny enclave is a mere champagne cork’s pop away from Mykonos and is one of the most renowned archaeological sites in Greece. Accorded with UNESCO Heritage status, the ancient Hellenistic ruins – dating back to 300 BC – are exquisitely framed against a backdrop of cerulean skies. Only accessible by boat, you can learn all about Delos ’ rich history and the myths and legends that have shaped its landscapes over the centuries.

Lefkada, Ionian islands

Best for: windsurfing, world-class beaches and excellent cuisine.

Known as the ‘ Caribbean of Greece’, Lefkada  is renowned for its lush mountainous interior, abundant wildlife and glorious bays and inlets. The island also plays host to some of the best beaches in Greece, including the remote Egremni Beach on the southwest coast that is a beach-lovers dream, and only accessible by boat, ideal for a superyacht charter.

Lefkada port in the Ionian Islands in Greece

Due to its position, some of these bays experience goldilocks wind conditions, making them a favorite haunt for elite kite surfers who come to enjoy the breaks, as much as the beautiful setting.

One of the few islands you can drive to, Lefkada is connected to the mainland by a causeway, with the imposing Frank-built castle of Agia Mavra guarding the entrance. The town itself offers an array of historical buildings, museums and other cultural activities, and is well-worth a visit.

The island is also home to a number of hidden gems that need to be seen to be believed. From aquamarine gorges to breathtaking beaches, this island will capture your imagination and leave you with a wealth of experiences guaranteed to linger long in the memory.

  • Dimossari waterfalls  - cascading off the high mountains that abound in Lefkada, there are a number of waterfalls on the island, but none so beautiful as Dimossari on the outskirts of Nidri, that culminates in a spellbinding blue-green oasis.
  • Cape Ducato - with a lighthouse perched on its peninsula, Cape Ducato is pretty as a picture with views to match, but its ace card is the sublime scuba opportunities on offer. Experienced divers can enjoy 30 meters of visibility, up to 40 meters depth, where they'll discover a magical underwater world teeming with life, including numerous lobsters.
  • Porto Katsiki - close your eyes and picture the most beautiful beach you can imagine, fringed by clear turquoise waters and golden sands set within a secluded cove against a backdrop of sheer white cliffs, and you may have an approximation of Porto Katsiki. One of the most instagrammed beaches in the world, frequented by the SuperyachtSet throughout summer.

15 of the best Greek island hotels

15 of the best Greek island hotels

From a village-like outpost in Corfu arranged around an 18th olive oil mill to a peninsula in Crete, these are the ultimate Greek island idylls

It’s not hard to understand the enduring appeal of a Greek island getaway — powdery soft sands, picturesque white and blue villages, translucent seas and incredible food.

And with so many atolls to choose from (some 277), the good news is that there’s a sanctuary to suit everyone. Whether you prefer a hillside retreat or a beachier aesthetic, we’ve got all the inspiration you need for your very own Greek odyssey.

Oasis Pool & Lounge Santa Marina

Santa Marina, Mykonos

With an infinity pool complete with sunken cabanas, the only private beach in Mykonos and curved white stone suites, the Santa Marina is akin to a Greek legend. It’s what keeps guests coming back year after year. A perfect fly and flop destination, days can be punctuated by rubbing shoulders with the chic set at the Buddha-Bar Beach and sampling authentic Greek dishes and fine wines at Elais restaurant (named after Apollo’s granddaughter, who had the magic ability to make olive bushes grow and trees bear fruit). Or if you can tear yourself away, you’ll be rewarded with what’s beyond the stunning peninsula. Hire a boat and explore the surrounding ancient island of Delos or the turquoise coves of uninhabited Rhenia. For more R&R, the Ginkgo spa is a beauty, with mosaic tiles mingling with contemporary touches. Treatments by ESPA and 111SKIN promise to balance body and mind, in keeping with the Greek Harmonia ethos. Details: rooms from £400 a night; calimykonos.com

The Rooster, Antiparos

With its breathtaking beaches, tranquil Antiparos long remained one of Greece ’s best-kept secrets. But word is out, thanks to The Rooster, a slow-living retreat comprised of 16 villas that blend seamlessly into a landscape of olive-trees, lavender and wild grasses, each with its own private pool. With no televisions in the rooms, this is a place to fully disconnect – there’s daily yoga at the House of Healing spa included in the room price to help you do just that. The rugged landscape slopes down to the crescent beach of Livadia, where you can enjoy a picnic basket packed by the affable staff, and the best sunset views on the island.

Istoria, Santorini

Santorini has come to epitomise the ultimate Greek island paradise, and the beautiful boutique hotel Istoria is proof that it deserves such a reputation. Nestled on the south coast, on the shore of the Perivolos soft black sand beach, the 12 rustic suites are decorated in a seductive mix of terracotta, wood and concrete, with marble-topped console tables and ceramic pendant lights. There’s a restaurant led by acclaimed chef Yiannis Kioroglou, and the Elios spa offering a range of holistic treatments; not to mention the longest pool on the island, with super comfy loungers and a sunken pool for those daily Aperol spritz.

The Wild Hotel, Mykonos

From the team behind Mykonos’ beloved Interni restaurant, comes The Wild Hotel, set dramatically in a natural amphitheatre on cliffs overlooking Kalafati Beach. Each of the 40 white-walled suites and villas has been designed with the shapes and colours of traditional Greek architecture in mind. From the blonde-wood ceiling beams to the wicker chairs, and private pools with views across the Aegean Sea, these chic havens offer total tranquillity. Naturally, the food is delicious – enjoy classic Mediterranean dishes, including moussaka and stuffed vine leaves, with a contemporary twist.

It’s easy to fall in love with OKU Hotel’s adults-only sanctuary in Kos (they also have a dreamy outpost in Ibiza). This is laidback luxury at its best — minimalist bohemian interiors, a glossy pool to float in, a private sandy beach, and a farm-to-fork menu of delights including homemade tzatziki and Aegean seabass with coriander and black olives. Junior swim-up suites are seriously spacious and decorated in neutral tones, with powerful waterfall showers in the bathroom, direct access to a pool (shared between one or two other rooms) and hammocks on the shady terrace — the perfect spot to curl up with a holiday read in the midday heat.

Grace Hotel, Santorini

best greek island yacht charter

This luxurious bolthole on the white-washed paradise of Santorini opens straight onto the Aegean Sea, offering gorgeous views from the cliffside upon which it is perched. Built as a series of cascading white terraces, there are plunge pools galore (essential for those scorching summer days), deckchairs upon which to lounge and, for the ultimate treat, guests can experience spa treatments in the comfort of their own rooms. Located in plumb position in the middle of the island, it offers enviable views of the caldera, as well as the blue-topped domes the island is famous for. The food itself is also a delight: the restaurant, Varoulko, offers Michelin-quality takes on seafood, which can be enjoyed by the infinity pool as the sun goes down. The ultimate getaway for those seeking a bit of tranquility: anybody for a spot of yoga?

Verina Astra, Sifnos

Sifnos is one of the lesser-known destinations in the Cyclades but it’s certainly worthy of your attention. Stay at clifftop hideaway Verina Astra, where daily life is simple: wake to a glorious orange sunrise before making your way down to breakfast (think poached eggs with brioche and pancakes with walnuts and thyme honey). In the afternoons, some guests choose to laze by the saltwater infinity pool — Pantone-matched to just the right shade of Aegean blue — while more active visitors will enjoy the hotel’s access to some of the most scenic walking trails in Greece. If you find your muscles need soothing afterwards then book into the recently opened Bostani Spa where treatments use a blend of ELEMIS products with local aromatic herbs and plants, loved by locals for centuries.

Naxian on the Beach, Naxos

A stone’s throw from the golden sands of Naxos, Naxian on the Beach is a breezy, laid-back lair that invites you to kick off your shoes and forget about them for the entirety of your stay. The ten guest rooms are curated with local, natural materials and each one has an indoor or outdoor Jacuzzi, plus a terrace overlooking the sparkling water of the Aegean. Foodies will be extremely happy here — the Tortuga restaurant quite rightly focusses on fresh seafood, from perfectly grilled lobster to zingy ceviche, with dishes so good you’ll want to eat them twice over.

Elounda Peninsula, Crete

If Crete is the island in your sights, it doesn’t get much better than Elounda Peninsula. Boasting its own smooth sand beach, the suite-only hotel has boutique vibes and unbeatable views across the Aegean Sea and Sitia mountains. Last year it had a sleek, modern makeover, with all suites and villas rebuilt, and a new beachfront villa with a pool was added. It also boasts the largest waterfront accommodation in Crete, the six-bedroom Diamond Residence — in case you and your crew are feeling flush. Add a Six Senses spa, a multi-award-winning Japanese restaurant, Sumosan, water sports and a nine-hole golf course and you’ll be hard pushed to explore everything the hotel has to offer during your stay. Visitors with little ones will be delighted by the kids’ club (which is complimentary for ages five and up) and includes a basketball court, arts and crafts activities, football and baking sessions. Plus there’s an all-important water slide. Thrills for all ages. Details: rooms from about £420 a night (breakfast included); domesresorts.com

It’s low rise suites all come with a private pool, garden or sundeck and are arranged around a gorgeous late 18th century olive oil mill, amid the beautiful scenery of the Corfiot south east coast with its perpetually blue Ionian Sea and sky. Committed to wellbeing and with a focus on low environmental impact, the hotel’s beach restaurant uses local produce to curate a Mediterranean menu inspired by Nonas (Greek grandmas). It is also plastic-free zone and was built with natural local materials such as plenty of olive wood. Don’t visit without trying the Aegeo spa, with ancient Greek influences on the treatment menu including Olympic-inspired and olive oil massages. A bonus for pet owners: small furry friends are welcome to stay in your suite for an additional 10 euro a day.
