HS = 1.34 x √LWL (in feet) Pounds per Inch Immersion: The weight required to sink the yacht one inch. Calculated by multiplying the LWL area by 5.333 for sea water or 5.2 for fresh water.

Join Date: Jan 2015. Posts: 551. Re: J/30 for Cruising. One of the most negative factors of the J-30 for a cruising is the fact that is was designed to be held down or "ballasted" by RAIL MEAT! They have a broad beam that overhangs and needs weight for good stability. Perhaps movable water ballast.

General. Obviously, the J/30 has ample space for distance cruising. We added an extra water tank next to the standard one, boosting our supply to 40 gallons. We sailed just about all the time, so the 14 gallons of diesel proved adequate. The addition of an engine-hour meter took the guesswork out of fuel consumption.
