Oyster Bay Yacht Club
So you’ve just said “I do” to your favorite person in the world, and now it’s time to plan your wedding! Happily, Amelia Island is brimming with beautiful wedding venues, and one of the favorites is Oyster Bay Yacht Club, located at the northern tip of Oyster Bay Harbour, exquisitely situated within a maritime forest. The club features expansive views of meandering waterways and Cumberland Island, a full-service bar with dining room, a swimming pool, and wide, covered verandas.
Wedding planner Cheyenne Nichols and her assistant Barbara Camp lead a team of talented chefs and staff who will make sure that your upcoming wedding is everything you’ve dreamed of, and more. “One of the things that sets us apart from other venues is that couples don’t need to hire a wedding planner,” says Nichols. “We do everything! Our staff works as a whole. They are warm and welcoming, and that’s what allows us to offer the quality of service that we do.”
Oyster Bay Yacht Club can hold 150 to 175 guests comfortably, and it offers many options for couples, from hors d’oeuvres and cocktails to a full sit-down dinner, dancing, and even finding and booking transportation to and from the wedding reception. Ceremony options include their Marsh Canopy for up to 175 guests, Front Lawn for up to 130 guests, and The Portico for up to 60 guests, which features a dose of Southern charm with a perfect arch and expansive views of the Front Lawn.
“No matter what time of the day or evening, Oyster Bay’s property is exquisite,” says Nichols. “Our photographers tell us that Oyster Bay is one of their favorite places to photograph a wedding.” Catering options are very flexible, and Oyster Bay’s chefs are able to accommodate special requests and dietary restrictions. Couples can choose from various hors d’oeuvres, entrees, accompaniments, serving stations, and bar service. Some of their specialties include poached shrimp, colossal crab meat, and half shell oysters, along with a chef-attended carving station featuring roast prime rib with horseradish cream and fresh asparagus.
Nichols and Camp offer couples a preferred vendor list, which includes businesses they work with all the time, the very best on Amelia Island and the surrounding area. “We’ll help the bride and groom with much more than just their wedding,” says Nichols. “We make suggestions for their rehearsal dinner, bridal luncheons, welcome party, and more. We have vendor suggestions for flowers, wedding cakes, photographers, music, and transportation.”
“Oyster Bay Yacht Club is the perfect setting for wedding receptions,” says Nichols. “The views are incredible, and the architecture is the epitome of Southern coastal casual elegance. Utilizing the covered verandah and main dining room, we can seat up to 150 guests. The main dining room will accommodate up to 60 guests; it is enclosed with glass windows and doors that open and flow nicely onto a covered verandah that provides additional seating for up to 90. A Traditional Wedding at Oyster Bay Yacht Club in Fernandina Beach, Florida
While Jennifer Ginn (33 and a math teacher) and Todd Achilles (35 and in marketing) had a winter wedding, its blue, white and black accents made the day feel like springtime. Sara Purdy Photography was there to capture every detail, from the couple’s traditional Memorial United Methodist Church ceremony in the bride's parents’ hometown to their fun waterfront reception at Oyster Bay Yacht Club. The team at Dottie “B” Florist helped Jenn and Todd make the day that much more personal by incorporating her favorite bloom: “We wanted to keep things simple, and hydrangeas are my favorite flower,” says Jenn. “When the florist said he could get those in January, we went with hydrangeas and let that guide the color palette.” Jenn walked down the aisle with a bouquet of those blue hydrangeas surrounding a few white roses, and the same blue flowers were used throughout the wedding, from the bridesmaids’ bouquets to each low breakaway vase centerpiece at the reception. Another notable detail was Jenn’s mermaid-style Monique Lhuillier wedding dress. Her white one-shoulder gown was covered with sunning silver beading in an intricate pattern and came at an unexpected price. “It was a total steal at just a couple hundred dollars from Neiman Marcus's evening gown department,” she says. Jenn and Todd spent their night dancing with 105 friends and family members in Oyster Bay Yacht Club’s covered patio to Footloose Entertainment. “The DJ kept the dance floor hopping with great music all night,” says Jenn.

Steph & Mark’s Yacht Club Wedding
A yacht club wedding.
Steph and Mark’s stunning yacht club wedding took place at the gorgeous Seawanhaka Yacht Club – a secluded oasis of a venue in Oyster Bay overlooking the Long Island Sound.
These sweethearts met through a coworker many moons ago and enjoyed lots of happy hours together before Steph made the first move back in 2014! Together, they love all of the outdoor things including boating and fishing, so it made perfect sense for them to start their new life together as husband and wife at Seawanhaka with a gorgeous blend of rustic, floral, and timeless elegance with incredible water views at their yacht club wedding!
The Ceremony
Steph and Mark’s yacht club wedding took place on the lawn at Seawanhaka. Their 180 guests sipped on cucumber and mint water as they took their seats in front of a giant oak to watch the two lovebirds say their vows. Mark and the groomsmen arrived at the ceremony by boat(!!) and Vicki, the mutual friend who introduced Steph and Mark, officiated the wedding (8 months pregnant might I add!) Steph’s friends, Shireen and Lauren, and her cousin, Allie, read, including a sweet rendition of Billy Joel’s lyrics for “Just the Way You Are” (which really got to my Long Island heart!) After the exchanging of vows and rings, the new Mr. and Mrs. sealed their marriage with a kiss and then they were off to the reception!
The Reception
Steph and Mark’s reception took place under a beautiful white tent with Christmas lights strung up and views of the water from every seat.
The wedding featured SO many personalized touches including: personalized hangers for all of the ladies in the bridal party, Mark’s custom-made watch engraved with their names and the date, Mark’s and the groomsmen’s ties which were custom designed by the groom (and his tie also included their names and wedding date!), a hand-rolled cigar station, favors made by the bride (adorable jars of olive oil!), and the Maid of Honor, Kelly, performing during the cocktail hour!
Good Clean Fun Band rocked the party and got everyone up and dancing for pretty much the whole night. I’ve been to quite a few weddings…but this crowd really knew how to enjoy a party!
Steph and Mark – your stunning wedding day was such a gorgeous visual of the love you share with each other and also your family and friends. I’m so grateful I was able to capture your first day as Mr. and Mrs. and wish you ALL the good things in your journey together <3.

Oyster Bay Yacht Club Wedding, Amelia Island Florida | Kelli + Jonathan

Have you ever known someone who exudes the kind of sweetness and happiness that is so genuine that they are truly magnetic to be near? Kelli and Jonathan are those kinds of people. Their honest personalities and overflowing joyfulness are what draws people to them.
The bridal suite was a buzz that day with joyous conversation and laughter. Kelli and her girls piled onto the bed in their floral robes and hugged her so tightly. Today was the day she had hoped and planned months in advance for. Above the bridal suite, Jonathan dressed in the same villa upstairs and waited to see his future wife. Nervous, and excited, they exited the suite and made their way out to see each other for the first time as husband and wife.
As the tall Florida oaks reached overhead, the sunlight filtered through the Spanish moss. The backdrop at Oyster Bay was steeped in natural beauty. With their closest friends and family gathered around them, Kelli and Jonathan vowed to keep Christ at the center of their lives and commit themselves to one another for the rest of their days to come. They spent the evening partaking in conversations and toasting to the newest chapter in their love story. All the while, ensuring every guest felt comfortable and cherished as a part of their first day together as husband and wife
Kelli + JPK, I’m so happy the world has couples like you in it. Your wedding day was perfect and stunning in every single way, and I will never forget how special you made us feel just for being there. I’m incredibly thankful to have been given the opportunity to document a day that truly reflected not only who each of you are individually, but who you are together. I cannot wait to see what it’s in store down the road for you, and if we ever get out that way again, let’s plan that sushi date we were talking about! 😉 Much Love, Sara

Oyster Bay Yacht Club Wedding | Fernandina Beach, FL | Nikki + Matt
I absolutely adore photographing Nikki and Matt at their Oyster Bay Yacht Club wedding in Fernandina Beach, FL. These two are a very laid back and have great style! Nikki had a clear vision for her wedding and all her hard work towards that vision clearly paid off!
When I met Nikki at her consultation she knew already where she wanted to take her engagement photos. She had her heart set on Washington Oaks State Park and Gardens. I was jumping for joy that is where she wanted to shoot as I LOVE everything about the place. (Check out their engagement session HERE .) Then, when she told me she was getting married at Oyster Bay Yacht Club (OBYC), I was even more excited!
THE WEDDING DAY
The amazing getting ready space is located directly next to the OBYC venue. The amazing lawn ceremony under the trees was perfect. Nikki chose a pale blue and peach as her wedding colors. The bridesmaids looked fabulous in their long, pale blue dresses and classy white bouquets.
The groom and groomsmen looked dashing in navy blue suits. Yet, the flower girl stole the show. The couple’s dog walked down the aisle with a collar of flowers and was the sweetest pup!
The ceremony took place under the shade of the trees on the lawn of Oyster Bay Yacht Club. Then, portraits immediately followed at the same location as well as on the small bridge at the entrance to the club. The couple got introduced into reception. Tables had decorations of glass candle vases and greenery on top of pale blue fabric. Every detail tied together and felt like an intimate affair.
The couple’s first dance took place on the pool patio surrounded by their friends and family. Once dinner started at their Oyster Bay Yacht Club wedding it was time to take some sunset photos of Nikki and Matt. So we decided to go to the docks and it turned out to be the best decision. Within 20 minutes we created some amazing photos and were back at the reception to dance into the night. The night ended with a cheerful yet romantic sparkler exit.

These two might be the most easy going Bride and Groom I have ever worked with, and that is saying something because I am blessed with laid back Brides and Grooms. At the last minute Meryn email and asked if they could do a first look, she just knew she need to see “her Johnny” before they walked down the aisle, because she couldn’t be away from him all day long. I am so happy we added a first look, the weather took a turn for the worse literally as Meryn was walking down the aisle, so I am so happy we managed to get some beautiful sunshine filled shots before their ceremony, also, it might have been one of my favorite first looks to date. Their joy and excitement were overwhelming. Meryn and John, I am SO incredibly lucky to have been there on your big day. Love you both!

From the moment I chatted with Jennifer I knew working with her was going to be fun and carefree. Jennifer has a great fun-loving personality.
Jennifer had already selected her wedding venue, the beautiful Oyster Bay Yacht Club and it was all easy breezy after that.
After she showed me a picture of her custom dress she was having made from Dreamers and Lovers out in California…I definitely felt inspired.
The Theme we settled on was Bohemian Elegance! The bridesmaids even wore dressy culottes…which were totally adorable and went with the Bohemian Elegant Theme.
We chose big punches of flowers in both texture and volume…even throwing in one of my favorite berries for winter, the understated Olive!
When your going Bohemian, you got to go big or go home! Take your bouquet and make it oversized…that’s exactly what happened here.
Don’t worry this Bohemian Elegant Trend is moving right into 2016!
