The Swan Yachts division represents heritage and handcraftsmanship, with products characterised by elegant and timeless lines that have made Nautor Swan an icon in the sailing world. The yachts are reliable against the hardships of the sea and the performance hulls guarantee both comfort and competitiveness during regattas. The design team is led by German Frers the renowned Argentinian yacht designer who started working with Nautor in the 80s.

The history of Swan Maxis begins early on, a few years after the establishment of Nautor. An expert client asked for a 17m Sparkman & Stephens. It was the year 1970, and the magnificent Swan 55 took shape. At the time, it was one of the largest yachts in the world to be produced in series and in fiberglass.

The Swan Maxi, from 88 to 128 feet, offers the highest expression of seaworthiness in any conditions combined with elegance, comfort, performance, style and modernity. The world class designers behind these beautiful yachts are maestro Germàn Frers with Misa Poggi on the interiors, while from the launch of the latest projects, Lucio Micheletti’s pen joins the team for the exterior design.

With the launch of ClubSwan yachts, Nautor marks the beginning of a new chapter in the Finnish boat builders’ remarkable history. ClubSwan Yachts is the high-performance division of Nautor Swan, offering a conceptual vision with the emphasis firmly upon the values of speed, technology and competitive sailing potential. Innovative solutions focused upon maximising these qualities are at the heart of ClubSwan Yacht development, designed by Juan Kouyoumdijan, the French-Argentinian naval architect specialised in ocean racing yachts.

Born from the passion that Leonardo Ferragamo has for the marine world, the Swan Shadow broadens the range of vessels the Finnish yard offers to its customers, perfectly aligned with the core elements of it brand DNA: Performance, Quality, Elegance. The Swan 88 is the entry-level model in Nautor’s six-strong Maxi series . Christened Dream Catcher , the newly launched 87-footer exudes Nautor’s instantly recognizable sleek aesthetic, with naval architecture by long-time collaborator German Frers, exterior styling by Micheletti + Partners, and interiors by Misa Poggi. The newcomer’s green tech distinguishes it from other Swans, though.

The hybrid-electric propulsion system, developed in partnership with German outfit Torqeedo, uses less fuel than conventional diesel-only setups. As such, the yacht is cheaper to run and cleaner on the seas than traditional competitors. Furthermore, the Swan 88’s moderate draught fin T-keel of 13 feet and twin rudders ensure agility, balance, and safety while sailing. Nautor says the hybrid is particularly suited to chartering, with proportions that meet the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) regulations. By chartering the yacht, owners can further reduce running costs.

Heading inside, the light and airy living quarters are equipped with four generous guest cabins and one plush owner’s suite that can collectively sleep up to 10 guests. The crew area also offers space for up to four crew members.

“This important new model, of which we will launch the second unit in a few days, represents Swan’s 360-degree essence, the DNA that for 58 years has made our boats recognizable worldwide, and we are very proud of it,” adds Pomati.

Dream Catcher will debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival (September 10 to 15) and Monaco Yacht Show (September 25 to 28).

Broker’s Comments

This Swan 56 has been one of our favorite boats since our office sold and built her with the first owner. She has always been very well maintained and loved, sailed back and forth to the Caribbean and New England often, and participating in various offshore racing and cruising events, such as the Bermuda Race. In the 2024 Bermuda race, she was first overall in Division 3 (cruising) and second overall in the Cruising Division. This just shows how the Swan 56 is truly a racer/cruiser design, as she can easily do both, and sailed with family and friends, not professional crew! Her carbon rig just adds to her performance capabilities, and the double companionway is such a good safety feature offshore. Great electronics package, and of course, lots of updated equipment.

Owner’s Comments

Having just sold our Baltic 42 and being particularly fond of Finnish-built yachts, our goal was to find a Swan that would fit the needs of family and friends. TRAMONTANA was the perfect choice and finding her in New England made it even better.

Initially, we planned to participate in the 2020 Newport to Bermuda race, but of course, COVID hit, and everything changed. Her first outing was at the Swan Regatta in Newport in 2019. For the summers of 2020 and 2021, we cruised the Newport-to-Maine area while continually upgrading her. Before heading to the Caribbean for the winter seasons of 2021-22 and 2022-23, we took her to Jamestown Boat Yard to ensure she was in top shape. Being proactive owners, we made sure that whatever needed to be done was taken care of. We didn’t want anything to interrupt our cruising plans through the BVI, USVI, Anguilla, St. Barths, and St. Martin, along with racing in the Heineken Regatta in spring 2023 before heading back to Marblehead, MA.

We usually participate in events like the NYYC Annual Regatta and the Around the Island Race. TRAMONTANA is a true cruiser/racer, equipped with all the creature comforts, a high-performance carbon rig, and an excellent sail package.
