Morning private charter.

The Lazy Lizard is Pura Vida! The morning half day trip was a perfect start to the day, especially with family. The crew members were great and we had an excellant guide for our snorkeling tour. When we finished snorkeling, we enjoyed a delicious meal that the crew prepared for us. If you’re visiting Costa Rica, I highly recommend taking a tour with the Lazy Lizard. We even saw whales and dolphins.

Sunset Catamaran Tour

I highly recommend that you sign up for the 4 hour sunset tour. Lazy Lizard staff is very professional from the time that they pick you up until the time that they drop you off (if you are within their area). The entire experience was fabulous! You get a great boat ride out to the bay with beautiful views of the Guanacaste area. You get drinks, music, food and the opportunity to snorkel, kayak or standup paddleboard in the bay. The staff on board assist you while you walk and in the water, and they are very attentive to all of your needs. They made sure that all of us on board were very happy.

Private Charter Playa Flamingo

Selecting the private tropical sunset catamaran trip seemed like the right idea for us. The bus picked us up right on tim and brought us to our boat about 20-30 minutes away. The second we got on the boat we were welcomed by the crew and they were absolutely awesome. They were always making sure we had drinks in hand and were always aware of safety when each of us were walking around the boat. The snorkeling stop was awesome and then.... THE FOOD. Truly unbelievable food was prepared for us, it was honestly incredible and delicious and there was more than enough to feed everyone. After the meal we started heading back to the beach and the sunset was one of the most beautiful sunsets I've ever seen. The price was absolutely worth this amazing day. Would do this again for sure.

With our open sailing tours in Playa del Coco, you silently glide along Costa Rica’s Gold Coast while passing some of Guanacaste’s exotic bays, white sand beaches, and tropical jungles. Playa del Coco is north of our other launch site in Tamarindo but both tours include amazing views of Costa Rica, mesmerizing wildlife sightings of dolphins, sea turtles, flying fish, and the occasional breaching whale, and delicious cold tropical drinks that are prepared by our experienced crew.

We drop anchor in a tranquil bay so you can swim in the blue Pacific. Snorkel in the bay or run down the deserted white sand beach while the ever helpful crew prepares a feast of BBQ chicken, yellow Spanish rice, fruit, chips, black bean puree, pico de gallo, and homemade chocolate chip cookies.

As the Marlin del Rey sailing catamarans set sail, hear the waves lapping at the sides of the giant catamaran as you watch a gorgeous sunset that illuminates the clouds left in the sky. What To Know Before Booking a Catamaran Tour

What to Bring

We suggest bringing:

A towel – We like microfiber because it rolls up small and dries fast

A full bottle of water – Almost all tours include unlimited drinks, but it is always nice to have an extra bottle just in case

A dry bag – We always pack our stuff in a waterproof bag. There have been so many times that we have been on boats in Costa Rica and the wind picks up and water splashes in the boat. Having a dry bag has saved us countless times.

Motion Sickness Pills – You can always buy these in Costa Rica (most Costa Rican pharmacies sell Gravol, if you are wondering which brand), but I always bring some with me just in case. Even if you don’t typically get seak sick, you never know.

SPF 50 – The sun is powerful here. Make sure to reapply sunblock often.

A change of clothes – This is not always necessary, but if you get really wet from swimming, you may want a change of clothes depending on your plans for after your catamaran tour. 

What to Wear

We always wear:

A bathing suit – You will most likely go swimming

Fast-drying shorts – Something that is lightweight and dries fast is best.

UV protecting shirt – We suggest wearing a long sleeve UV shirt even when snorkeling. We have been on so many day trips on boats in which people end up really badly burned because they don’t realize how much sun exposure they are getting while swimming.

Flip flops – On most boats, you will be asked to take your shoes off. Wearing flip-flops that can get wet is the easiest thing to slip on and off.

A hat with a strap – I like the nerdy fishing type of hats with a strap. They will protect you from the sun and you don’t need to worry about losing it when the wind picks up.

Sunglasses – Because….sun

Glasses strap – It’s amazing how many times we have almost lost our sunglasses or glasses due to wind while on boats here. It’s always a good idea to have a glasses strap to prevent this.

Best Time of Year

The dry season in Costa Rica runs from mid-December until late April.

During this time of year you should have zero rain on the Pacific coast. However, this time of year also tends to be the most expensive time to visit, and things book out fast. 

During the rainy season , you can expect almost daily afternoon rainstorms from about 2 pm to 4 pm. In other words, keep in mind that during the rainy season there is a chance your afternoon catamaran tour could be canceled due to bad weather.  

All of the tours we suggested are with reputable companies with good safety ratings. All boats should have life vests on board by law.

However, always look out for your own safety. If something feels off, trust your instincts.

Transportation

Most tours include transportation from your area hotel. We suggest using the included transportation when possible so you don’t need to worry about finding parking.

If you drive and leave your rental car in a parking lot for the duration of your catamaran tour, please don’t leave anything of value in your car.

It’s very rare, but people have been known to have cars broken into especially if valuables are visible.

The catamarans include all the necessary services for a comfortable tour, in which we will take you to pristine, remote and natural sites along the coast.

One of our strong points is the observation of nature, such as visiting private beaches , remote and virgin coastline, sites far from civilization, all while still enjoying all the services on board, such as meals, drinks (open bar) Blue Tooth music system, attention and service from our crew and the captain himself. Although the region  has been quite developed with hotels and resorts in some beaches and regions, there is still plenty of natural coastline along the coast, including secluded beaches, pristine coves and bays, remote islets and rocky pinnacles and endless  hills covered by tropical forests.

Sailing Trips and Vacations

The province  offers a large number of hotels of different types, located mainly along the coastal area.

Some of the most developed hotel zones are Papagayo, where you can find luxury hotels such as Four Seasons, Exlusive Resorts, Andaz  and El Mangroove.

However, there are also standard hotels and more modest hotels and lower price range, these are also distributed along the coast, mainly from Peninsula to Tamarindo, the area with more hotel development.

Samara and Nosara stand out for having less hotel development, which is liked by many who are looking  for less developed areas and therefore, with more abundance of natural landscapes and privacy.

For those who prefer rental homes rather than hotels or resorts, there are also a variety of different types of homes along the coast of the province.
