Claire’s interior layout sleeps up to 10 guests in 5 rooms, including a master suite, 3 double cabins and 1 twin cabin. She is also capable of carrying up to 8 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience. Captain Eric Olejniczak | Canada Eric has been an avid sailor since he was very young and captivated by stories of his great grandfather, a merchant mariner. While growing up in Poland, he explored the waters around Europe and the Mediterranean. Later he sailed in Australia and Canada. After University, he opened a sailing school & charter company in Vancouver offering classes and charters throughout the Caribbean. Early on, he obtained his MCA 3,000-ton Class IV Unlimited License and has been running large yachts ever since. Over the last 25 years, he has shown countless guests the wonders of many enchanting areas including the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, México and United States. When not at sea, he loves playing tennis, hiking, mountain biking, rollerblading and fitness training of all kinds. Eric is looking forward to sharing his love of the sea and land activities with you.

Chief Engineer Albert Galychanivsky | Ukraine Albert grew up in a land-locked part of the Ukraine, but always loved the water. As a young man, he competed all over Eastern Europe in the Olympic sport of canoe/kayak sprint racing. Though he dreamed of joining the Marines, he started his career aboard 600-foot Fishing Vessels instead. Albert became a Junior Engineer and went on to study at the Nakhimov Naval Marine Academy. He worked as engineer aboard cargo and container vessels where he traveled most of the world’s bodies of water including The Pacific, Indian and Atlantic Oceans, the Mediterranean, and North, Baltic, Black Sea and the Red Sea. He extensively cruised Antarctica while working aboard a passenger ferry boat. Later Albert became Engineer aboard the Discovery Channel’s Research Vessel, “The Odyssey Explorer”. He transitioned over to Superyachts 8 years ago after obtaining his Chief Engineer Unlimited/Y1 certificate. Albert has over 22 years hands-on experience as an engineer. When not tending to yachts, Albert spends time with his wife and dogs, enjoys playing tennis, solving mechanical problems and dabbling in computer software analytics. He has a very welcoming personality and is looking forward to having you aboard.

Chief Officer Dario Ferguson | Bahamas Dario comes from the chain of islands known for its sun, sand, and sea… yes, the Bahamas! That’s where he grew up spending all his summers snorkeling, spear fishing, or exploring on a dingy. He always had a passion for the water and as a child would fantasize about the superyachts as they passed by. He said to himself that one day he would be the Captain of a superyacht and is now on that journey. That’s how he became a part of the yachting world and loves it! With 4 years’ experience at a five-star luxury resort and a friendly personality, he ensures premium service aboard M/Y CLAIRE.

Chef Adrian Gonzalez | Mexico Adrian grew up in the holiday tourist town of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. After taking third place in a cooking contest as an adolescent, he became captivated by the joys of cooking. One of Adrian’s many thrills as Yacht Chef is exploring marketplaces in foreign lands inspiring him to create fascinating new recipes. He was trained at the Swiss Institute of Culinary Arts and Hospitality (ISU) in Puebla, Mexico. Adrian obtained a position in La Clusaz, France as a Food Operation Manager and added to his knowledge of French Cuisine. Adrian makes Mexican, European, American fusion into an art. After working in several high-end restaurants in Fort Collins, Colorado, Los Cabos, Mexico and Miami, Florida, Adrian discovered the sailing world and became certified as a private yacht chef. He has been in the yachting industry for over 4 years and is looking forward to providing you with a taste sensation to remember. Adrian has a beautiful wife, two teen-age stepchildren and an energetic five-year-old son who fill his time when he is not sailing. He is an avid biker and participates in marathons with his niece and nephew whenever possible. Adrian also has a love of traveling, which makes yachting the ideal career for him.

Chief Stewardess Kelly Olejniczak | Canada Kelly is a natural born hostess who loves to spoil her guests & make them feel welcome. She grew up in Alberta, Canada graduating with an Honors Degree in Germanic Linguistics. Kelly went on to organize many high-profile special events in Canada & Germany during her subsequent public relations career. Her love of sailing began early on aboard her uncle’s boat & was rekindled through her husband, Eric. She became a Certified Sailing Instructor & opened a sailing school/charter company with him. Kelly holds her equivalent 200-ton Captain’s License and has been yachting professionally for more than 25 years. She takes delight in showing her guests the beauty & magic of sailing grounds in Canada, Australia, the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, Caribbean, Bermuda, United States, México and beyond. Outside of yachting, she enjoys fitness, health & wellness, animals, nature, hiking, and mountain biking. Kelly is looking forward to treating you to a delightful vacation you’ll remember for a lifetime.

2nd Stewardess Lymne Dahl | Philippines Lymne was born and raised by the seaside in Carles, Iloilo, Phillippines. She graduated from the Maritime University with a Bachelor of Science in Cruise Ship Management. After college, Lymne completed her on-the-job training in the field of hospitality at various hotels before landing her first role on a superyacht for the King of Saudi Arabia in 2008. Lymne has a wealth of knowledge in the interior of large and small yachts. She is proficient in looking after interior duties with ease and is looking forward to treating you to a wonderful time aboard. Lymne is a mother of two, fluent in Hiligaynon, Tagalog and English. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, dancing, singing and spending time with her beautiful children and family.

3rd Stewardess Mayra Bello | Mexico Mayra was born and raised in Morelos, south of Mexico City. She spent 4 years in the U.S. learning English and finishing her studies in travel and tourism. Before joining the yachting industry in 2013 Mayra worked aboard cruise lines for three years as a waitress. Mayra enjoyed going around the world to different countries and exciting destinations. She found her real passion in yachting as a perfect field to combine travel and her hospitality skills. Mayra has taken different courses to work aboard superyachts and considers education a very important tool for all aspects of life. Mayra is very active, happy person, enthusiastic about life, and enjoys sharing her knowledge with others. During her free time, she enjoys fitness, salsa dancing and spending time with her friends and family. She has always been interested in working with different cultures and was drawn early into the hospitality field.

Bosun Joel Albury | Bahamas Joel was born and raised in Exuma, Bahamas and has a passion for boating like his forefathers. He later moved to Nassau in high school where he played water polo internationally while furthering his interest in yachting. He has a special love for the ocean and also loves fishing. Joel has been yachting for two years. He is a naturally friendly and fun person who loves to make his guests smile.

Deckhand Greg Walsh | South Africa Greg hails from the sun-kissed African shores of Durban, South Africa where the ocean is always nearby. While working behind the bar during his University Studies (both Psychology and Commerce), he developed a passion for the hospitality industry. Greg involved himself with all aspects of food & beverage eventually owning & operating a chic 200-seat Italian restaurant. He then transferred these skills to the megayacht industry. When not yachting, you can find Greg doing a variety of adrenaline-inducing activities such as paragliding, skydiving, shark diving or mountain climbing. Description.

The Hatteras 68 Convertible sports a 192-square-foot cockpit that includes a mezzanine deck for superior seating and amenities. The mezzanine houses double- size bait freezer, insulated storage tubs, tackle drawers, insulated drink storage and more. The mezzanine is designed in modular fashion, which allows each owner to customize the location of various components such as freezer, ice box or optional baitwell. Below the cockpit deck is a large, open lazarette accessible through the engine room hatch. The compartment provides an excellent location for equipment and gear storage, while an aft isolation bulkhead with door allows easy inspection of steering components. The engine room contains no space-stealing air boxes on the hull sides or air-induction vents on the exterior. That's because the 68 features a forced ventilation system that draws air from beneath the cockpit coaming.

The open flybridge arrangement offers wrap-around seating forward of the console along with a deep freeze and insulated chill box. The extended overhang is topped with two Murray Products helm chairs. A rear-facing jump seat provides quick access to the cockpit ladder. Hatteras' computer-based touch-screen system monitor is standard, and a generous electronics allowance will easily outfit the power-actuated electronics console. The pod-style helm station includes single-lever controls with emergency backup controls standard. 

With its convex hull shape, deep propeller tunnels, large props and deep reduction gears, the 68 will deliver a shallow draft and competitive performance.

68' Hatteras "CLAIRE TOO" is the lowest hour 68 on the market with only 1475 original hours. She has a large beam - 21.6 ft and features a full beam master stateroom. The VIP is forward with a queen berth. Port and starboard staterooms have twin berths.

Large cockpit features mezzanine seating arrangement, cockpit controls, varnished teak fighting chair, teak decks, and covering boards, tuna door, center live well, port and starboard fish boxes with macerator pumps, bait drawers and tackle center, freezers and refrigeration, Eskimo ice machine, and fresh and salt water wash down.

Flybridge has full Isinglass enclosure, Palm Beach controls with varnished teak pod and 2 varnished captain's chairs with teak decks below, u-shaped seating and aft facing bench seat, refrigerator and freezer, hard top with drop down electric teaser reels, and pop up electronic console.

Electronics feature Furuno GPS, twin radars, color video depth sounder, Northstar GPS, and Hatteras ships monitor, twin ICOM VHF radios and Simrad autopilot.

Motor Yacht CLAIRE received her elegant interior designing from the interior design firm of Timothy Mullin / Designer Image. Built at Broward Yachts the yacht was completed in the recognised yachting country the United States. She was successfully launched in Fort Lauderdale Fl in 1997 before being transferred to the owner. Her main hull was crafted from aluminium. The motor yacht superstructure is made predominantly from aluminium. With a width of 7.32 metres or 24 ft CLAIRE has moderate interior. She has a fairly shallow draught of 1.89m (6.2ft).

Engineering & Speed On M/Y CLAIRE:

This yacht is installed with two capable DDC diesel engine(s) and can accelerate to a exhilaratory max speed underway of around 21 knots. The main engine of the yacht produces 1450 horse power (or 1081 kilowatts). Her total HP is 2900 HP and her total Kilowatts are 2162. She is driven by twin screw propellers. With respect to the ship’s stabalisers she utilises Van Der Velden. As for bow thruster maneuverability she utilises Van Der Velden. This yacht’s lively cruise speed is 18 knots which provides a range of 5000.

Captain Adam is originally from the little island of Jesey, channel island UK. He grew up on the water and was boating, fishing and sailing all through his childhood. Operated commercial vessels in the North-sea and the English Channel. Eric Olejniczak

Eric has been an avid sailor since he was very young and captivated by stories of his Great-Grandfather - a Merchant Mariner. While growing up in Poland, he explored the waters around Europe and the Mediterranean. Later he sailed in Australia and Canada. After university, he opened a sailing school & charter company in Vancouver offering classes and charters throughout The Caribbean. Early on, he obtained his MCA 3,000 ton Class IV Unlimited License and has been running large yachts ever since. Eric is very safety-conscious and has engine room knowledge. He has previously worked on 150’ Benetti LADY S, 145’ Christensen MISSING LINK, 135’ Tamsen NAMASTE, 135’ Amels MONTE CARLO, 135’ Trident M4, and 112’ Westport SYMPHONY II. Over the last 25 years, he has shown countless guests the wonders of many enchanting areas including the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, México and United States. Eric has a very pleasant, approachable, and flexible demeanor with a can-do attitude. When not at sea, he loves playing tennis, hiking, mountain biking, rollerblading and fitness training of all kinds. Eric is looking forward to sharing his love of the sea and land activities with CLAIRE’s guests.

Dario comes from the chain of islands known for its sun, sand, and sea... yes, the Bahamas! That’s where he grew up spending all his summers snorkeling, spear fishing, or exploring on a dingy. He always had a passion for the water and as a child would fantasize about the superyachts as they passed by. He said to himself that one day he would be the Captain of a superyacht and is now on that journey. That’s how he became a part of the yachting world and loves it! With 4 years’ experience at a five-star luxury resort and a friendly personality, he ensures premium service aboard M/Y CLAIRE.

Kelly Olejniczak

Kelly is a natural born hostess who loves to spoil her guests & make them feel welcome. She grew up in Alberta, Canada graduating with an Honors Degree in Germanic Linguistics. Kelly went on to organize many high-profile special events in Canada & Germany during her subsequent public relations career. Adrian grew up in the holiday tourist town of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. After taking third place in a cooking contest as an adolescent, he became captivated by the joys of cooking. One of Adrian’s many thrills as Yacht Chef is exploring marketplaces in foreign lands inspiring him to create fascinating new recipes. He was trained at the Swiss Institute of Culinary Arts and Hospitality (ISU) in Puebla, Mexico. Adrian obtained a position in La Clusaz, France as a Food Operation Manager and added to his knowledge of French Cuisine. Adrian makes Mexican, European, American fusion into an art. After working in several high-end restaurants in Fort Collins, Colorado, Los Cabos, Mexico and Miami, Florida, Adrian discovered the sailing world and became certified as a private yacht chef. He has been in the yachting industry for over 4 years and is looking forward to providing you with a taste sensation to remember. Adrian has a beautiful wife, two teen-age stepchildren and an energetic five-year-old son who fill his time when he is not sailing. Albert Galychanivsky

Albert grew up in a land-locked part of the Ukraine, but always loved the water. As a young man, he competed all over Eastern Europe in the Olympic sport of canoe/kayak sprint racing. Though he dreamed of joining the Marines, he started his career aboard 600-foot Fishing Vessels instead. Albert became a Junior Engineer and went on to study at the Nakhimov Naval Marine Academy. He worked as engineer aboard cargo and container vessels where he traveled most of the world’s bodies of water including The Pacific, Indian and Atlantic Oceans, the Mediterranean, and North, Baltic, Black Sea and the Red Sea. He extensively cruised Antarctica while working aboard a passenger ferry boat. Later Albert became Engineer aboard the Discovery Channel’s Research Vessel, “The Odyssey Explorer”. He transitioned over to Superyachts 8 years ago after obtaining his Chief Engineer Unlimited/Y1certificate. Albert has over 22 years hands-on experience as an engineer. When not tending to yachts, Albert spends time with his wife and dogs, enjoys playing tennis, solving mechanical problems and dabbling in computer software analytics. He has a very welcoming personality and is looking forward to having you aboard.

Lymne was born and raised by the seaside in Carles, Iloilo, Phillippines. She graduated from the Maritime University with a Bachelor of Science in Cruise Ship Management. After college, Lymne completed her on-the-job training in the field of hospitality at various hotels before landing her first role on a superyacht for the King of Saudi Arabia in 2008. Lymne has a wealth of knowledge in the interior of large and small yachts. Joel Albury

Joel was born and raised in Exuma, Bahamas and has a passion for boating like his forefathers. Greg hails from the sun-kissed African shores of Durban, South Africa where the ocean is always nearby. While working behind the bar during his University Studies (both Psychology and Commerce), he developed a passion for the hospitality industry. Greg involved himself with all aspects of food & beverage eventually owning & operating a chic 200-seat Italian restaurant. He then transferred these skills to the megayacht industry. Thomas Legner (61) ist der Generaldirektor von The World, der größten privaten Wohnyacht.

Das Schiff verfügt über 165 Wohnungen, die den Bewohnern gehören, und segelt ständig um die Welt.

Legner sagt, auf dem Schiff sei es nicht wie auf einer Kreuzfahrt – es sei wie ein exklusiver Country Club auf dem Wasser.

Dieser Artikel basiert auf einem Gespräch mit Thomas Legner, dem 61-jährigen General Manager von The World. Er wurde aus Gründen der Länge und Klarheit überarbeitet.

The World ist die größte private Wohn-Yacht der Welt. Sie hat nichts von einer Kreuzfahrt, sondern ist eher ein Country Club auf dem Wasser. Es gibt 165 Apartments auf dem Schiff , und wir haben durchschnittlich 200 Bewohner an Bord. Unser jüngster Bewohner ist fünf Jahre alt, und unser ältester Bewohner 80.

Ich bin seit Januar 2014 General Manager des Schiffes. Zuvor war ich General Manager für das Intercontinental in Wien und davor für das Four Seasons tätig. Zu The World wollte ich, weil es kein anderes Schiff dieser Art gibt. Die Passagiere entscheiden, wohin wir jedes Jahr fahren. Wir sind schon bis in die Antarktis und nach Papua-Neuguinea gereist.

Es ist keine Kreuzfahrt, es ist ein exklusives Zuhause auf dem Meer

Da es sich nicht um eine Kreuzfahrt handelt, gibt es auch keinen Kapitänstisch oder Begrüßungsdrinks. The World ist ein Zuhause. Die meisten Menschen leben fünf bis sieben Jahre auf dem Schiff, aber einige Bewohner sind schon von Beginn an, also seit 22 Jahren dabei. Unsere Bewohner können das ganze Jahr über auf dem Schiff leben, wenn sie es wünschen. Aber da sie oft noch andere Wohnungen haben, teilen sie ihre Zeit zwischen den Residenzen auf.

Es gibt vier Möglichkeiten, an Bord des Schiffes zu kommen: ein Apartment kaufen, als Gast eingeladen werden, als potenzieller Käufer einen Probeaufenthalt genießen oder dem exklusiven Mitgliederclub Exclusive Resorts beitreten. Der Club besitzt vier Immobilien auf The World als Teil seines Angebots, aber es gibt eine Warteliste, um an Bord zu kommen.

Immer wieder kommen Gerüchte darüber auf, wem ein Apartment auf The World gehört. Wir hatten in der Vergangenheit schon Politiker und Fernsehstars an Bord, aber wir verraten nichts über die Bewohner des Schiffes. Ich würde einfach sagen, dass jeder Bewohner auf seinem Gebiet führend ist. Im Moment steht nur eine kleine Anzahl von Wohnungen zum Kauf zur Verfügung.

Die Anwesenheit des Personals sollte man spüren, nicht sehen

Wir haben sechs Restaurants an Bord, eine Kunstgalerie, ein Schwimmbad, ein Fitnesscenter, einen Golfsimulator und ein Spa. Außerdem haben wir eine Boutique und einen Lebensmittelladen. Die Mitarbeiter wissen, dass sie in einem Zuhause arbeiten. Wir sind respektvoll und höflich.

Keines der Besatzungsmitglieder außer dem Kapitän würde einen Bewohner oder Gast jemals mit seinem Vornamen ansprechen. Wir behandeln sie so, wie das Personal eines Luxushotels seine Gäste behandeln würde.

Ich bin der festen Überzeugung, dass man Service spüren, aber nicht sehen sollte. Wir haben ein Profil jedes Bewohners, in dem alle seine Vorlieben aufgeführt sind, von Allergien bis hin zu der Frage, ob er große oder kleine Eiswürfel in seinem Getränk mag. Die Bewohner können Zutaten im Lebensmittelladen des Schiffes kaufen und in ihrem Apartment kochen. Doch wenn sie in ein Restaurant gehen, sollten sie uns nur einmal sagen müssen, was sie mögen oder nicht mögen.

Anders als bei einer normalen Kreuzfahrt ist das ganze Schiff auf die Vorlieben der Bewohner ausgerichtet. Dabei kann es sich um die Art der Bettwäsche handeln, die sie in ihrem Appartement haben möchten, oder darum, welche Hafenaktivitäten sie mögen. Wir planen die Reiserouten zwei Jahre im Voraus. Dazu erstellen wir einen Fahrplan, sobald die Bewohner über die Ziele abgestimmt haben. Derzeit arbeiten wir an dem Fahrplan für 2027.

Crew und Bewohner haben einmalige Erlebnisse

Wir sind immer bestrebt, den Bewohnern besondere Momente zu bieten. Bei einer Gelegenheit, als es ein perfekter Tag auf See war, haben wir das Schiff am Äquator angehalten. Wir haben ein motorisiertes Schlauchboot, nördlich des Äquators und ein anderes südlich des Äquators platziert. So konnten die Gäste mitten auf dem Atlantik über den Äquator schwimmen.

Auch die Besatzung genießt besondere Momente. Wenn die Bewohner Ausflüge machen, kann die Crew mit Dünenbuggys durch die namibische Wüste fahren oder unter dem Sternenhimmel im Wadi Rum in Jordanien speisen.

Es ist unsere Aufgabe, die Wünsche der Bewohner zu erfüllen. So kann es sein, dass sie einen Tisch in einem Michelin-Stern-Restaurant mit Warteliste wünschen, was wir auch in der Regel schaffen. Andere brauchen vielleicht in letzter Minute einen Privatjet . In einem früheren Leben wäre ich vielleicht in kalten Schweiß ausgebrochen, aber jetzt machen wir es einfach möglich. Der Schlüssel zum Umgang mit Last-Minute-Anfragen liegt darin, flexibel zu sein und Alternativen zu haben, wenn die ursprüngliche Anfrage nicht möglich ist.

Wir haben Probleme, die es auf Kreuzfahrten nicht gibt

Als Wohnschiff haben wir Probleme, die es auf Kreuzfahrten vielleicht nicht gibt. Eines unserer größten Probleme ist die Lagerung. Wir haben wahrscheinlich 80 Golftaschen im Lager. Die Bewohner bringen auch ihre Möbel und Kunstwerke mit, aber sie wollen nicht alles ausstellen. Vielleicht wollen sie den Picasso später gegen den Rembrandt austauschen.

Wir geben niemals bekannt, wo sich das Schiff zu einem bestimmten Zeitpunkt befindet. Die Besatzung ist auch angewiesen, aus Sicherheitsgründen niemals in den sozialen Medien zu verkünden, dass sie sich auf The World befindet und wo das Schiff liegt.

Die Pandemie war die größte Herausforderung für mich als General Manager

Der herausforderndste Tag für mich als General Manager war im März 2020, zu Beginn der Pandemie. Wir waren gerade in Fremantle, Australien, angekommen, als die Flughäfen und Häfen zu schließen begannen. Die Gäste und die Hälfte der Besatzung flogen nach Hause. Der Rest der Besatzung blieb an Bord, um das Schiff zu warten.

Ich weiß noch, wie ich mit dem Kapitän auf der Brücke stand. Er sagte, es sei das erste Mal gewesen, dass er nicht wusste, ob er nach links oder nach rechts fahren sollte, da wir kein Ziel hatten. Die Ungewissheit war schwierig.

Der schönste Tag auf dem Schiff war die Begrüßung der Menschen, die im Juli 2021 zurückkehrten. Ich bekomme immer noch eine Gänsehaut, wenn ich daran denke. Einige Leute hatten wir seit über einem Jahr nicht mehr gesehen. Alle waren zu Tränen gerührt.

Das Schönste an meinem Job ist der Umgang mit der Besatzung und den Bewohnern und die Schaffung von tollen Erlebnissen. Vor ein paar Wochen sagte mir jemand, The World sei wie Four Seasons auf Steroiden. Unsere Crew-Mitglieder schaffen etwas so Unvergessliches, dass die Leute gar nicht mehr gehen wollen.

Who is Claire Shipman?

Today the following column will give an insight to an extraordinary talented journalist turned author, Claire Shipman . The 56-year-old, Shipman is an American journalist, author, and public speaker. Along with her best friend, Katty Kay , she's written three New York Times bestselling book, The Confidence Code, The Confidence Code for Girls, ​ and Womenomics .

For fifteen years, Claire was a regular contributor to Good Morning America and other national broadcasts for ABC News. She is also a mother of two lovely children and relishes her marital life with husband, Jay Carney , who is the former White House press secretary to President Barack Obama .

Claire Shipman was born on October 4, 1962, in Washington, D.C. She is the daughter of the late Christie Armstrong and Morgan Enlow Shipman. Her father, Morgan is a former Professor of Law at the Ohio State University.

Claire graduated from Worthington High School in 1980 and she was recognized as a distinguished Alumna during its 2006 convocation. Further, she graduated with a Bachelor degree from the Columbia College of Columbia University. Likewise, she holds the Master's degree from Columbia's School of International and Public Affairs. She is also fluent in Russian.

Shipman's broadcast career started with a decade-long stint at CNN. She served as White House Correspondent for NBC News from 1997 to 2001. Also, she joined ABC News and presented news program such as World News Tonight and Nightline.

With CNN, Shipman won a Peabody award for her coverage of the 1991 Soviet coup and the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Additionally, she received a DuPont Award and an Emmy Award for covering the 1989 Tiananmen Square student uprising.

Talking about Claire Shipman's personal life, she is a married woman. She has been married twice in her life, but presently, she is happy with her marital relationship. The senior national correspondent for Good Morning America, Miss Shipman is also a mother of two teenage children.

Investigation found that Clarence Thomas took free yacht, helicopter trips in Russia: Democrats

A Senate Judiciary Committee investigation found that conservative Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas failed to disclose at least 35 luxury gifts, including a free yacht trip to Russia and a private helicopter to a palace in St. Petersburg, Vladimir Putin's hometown, Sens. Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I., and Ron Wyden, D-Or., said  in a letter  to Attorney General Merrick Garland.

The letter raised the "serious possibility of tax fraud" and accused Thomas of having "secretly accepted gifts and income potentially worth millions of dollars," mostly from billionaire real estate developer Harlan Crow, who Thomas once described as being among his "dearest friends." Buried in appendix list on page 14 are the references to the Russia trips, which took place in 2003. Other gifts from Crow include "multiple instances of free private jet travel, yacht travel, and lodging," "gifts of tuition for Justice Thomas's grandnephew," "real estate transactions," "home renovations," and "free rent for Justice Thomas's mother."

“The Senate is not a prosecutorial body, and the Supreme Court has no fact-finding function of its own, making the executive role all the more important if there is ever to be any complete determination of the facts,” the letter reads.

After a bombshell ProPublica report last year that revealed the extent of Thomas' financial ties with Crow and attempts to hide it, Thomas admitted to taking three trips on a private plane owned by Crow, but did not disclose any of the other gifts.

The senators are asking Garland to launch a special counsel investigation into Thomas, with the evidence collected so far "plainly suggest[ing] that Justice Thomas has committed numerous willful violations of federal ethics and false-statement laws and raises significant questions about whether he and his wealthy benefactors have complied with their federal tax obligations."

In a separate move on Wednesday, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., and a group of fellow progressives filed articles of impeachment against Thomas and Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito for failing to disclose "millions of dollars in gifts from individuals with business before the court."
