A season full of great returns and novelties: the entire regatta calendar for summer 2024.

The Yacht Club Costa Smeralda’s intense sporting season for 2024 with regattas scheduled from May to October has been unveiled , along with the announcement of an important event, the 40th anniversary of the partnership between one of the most prestigious yacht clubs in the world and its historical partner Rolex. Save these dates in your calendar until July.

The season opens in Porto Cervo with the traditional Vela & Golf (24-26 May) . It will then be the moment of the Giorgio Armani Superyacht Regatta on 4-8 June , which sees, for the third year running, an Italian excellence in the world of fashion join the YCCS as Title Sponsor of the event. Following the success of past editions, the Southern Wind RendezVous and Trophy will take place as part of the Giorgio Armani Superyacht Regatta , an opportunity for a sailing trip to Porto Cervo enhanced by a family-like atmosphere and sportsmanship offered to Southern Wind yachts. An intense June continues with three regattas starting with the eagerly awaited J/24 European Championship on 10-16 June , dedicated to the J/24 Class, one of the most popular keelboats, which has significantly contributed to spreading sailing as a sport.

The final event dedicated to the J/24 monotype was held in Porto Cervo in 1996. Another eagerly awaited return is the Grand Soleil Cup , sailed in partnership with Cantiere del Pardo. A fleet of some forty boats is expected for the event. The month closes with the Invitational Smeralda 888 on 28-30 June , followed by the Smeralda 888 European Cup on 12-14 July , on board Smeralda 888 yachts designed by renowned yacht designer German Frers especially for the YCCS. The fourth edition of the YCCS J/70 Sailing Clinic takes place on 19-21 July.

Founder of Porto Cervo’s Yacht Club Costa Smeralda honoured at World Superyacht Awards 2019

His Highness the Aga Khan saw the potential of Sardinia ’s Costa Smeralda as a yachting hub in the 1950’s, and the Costa Smeralda Yacht Club was established as a result of his vision.

Businessman, spiritual leader and philanthropist His Highness the Aga Khan was presented with the Legacy Award at the World Superyacht Awards 2019 in London on May 18.

He was honoured for his discovery and development of the Costa Smeralda region, near Porto Cervo , on the north east portion of Sardinia in the sixties. 

By introducing the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, he is largely responsible for turning this part of Sardinia into the superyacht magnet it is today. 

He wanted the area to become an exclusive destination for elite travellers, while still maintaining its natural beauty and heritage.

Together with Andrè Ardoin, Giuseppe Kerry Mentasti and Luigi Vietti, the Aga Khan established the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda on 1967 as a sporting centre for fellow sailing enthusiasts looking for a slice of Italian paradise.

Since its inception, the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda has organised a number of international regattas which it went on to host in later years, making the Aga Khan a worthy winner of this prestigious accolade.

The Aga Khan is also noted for his role in the establishment of the Costa Smeralda Consortium in 1962.

Costa Smeralda's Regatta Circuit

This year, the hotly-anticipated Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta 2019 will be back at Yacht Club Costa Smeralda on June 3, marking an important date in the calendar for the Mediterranean yacht charter season.

Over five days, thrilling races will take place around La Maddalena archipelago, which sits just a few kilometres from Sardinia. This scattering of islands creates around 50 fast-paced racing circuits, each of which are complemented by excellent sailing conditions and stunning scenery.

Visiting the Emerald Coast

Those on a superyacht vacation in Italy shouldn’t miss the chance to explore Sardinia, and discover everything this idyllic island has to offer.

On the north eastern tip, Porto Cervo has earned a reputation for its sailing, superyachts and luxury living. It regularly pulls in luxury charter yachts with its countless designer fashion houses, upscale restaurants and chic beach clubs.

Yacht Description

Motor Yacht JAJARO is 31m open sports yacht built by Tecnomar Yachts of Italy in 2009 and maintained/upgraded to the highest standards. The yacht is based in Porto Cervo in Sardinia, with a prestigious berth outside the Yacht Club. JAJARO is one of the only charter yachts on the market to have a berth in Porto Cervo.

JAJARO sleeps 8 guests in 4 cabins and can cruise for the day with 12 guests onboard. The yacht’s fabulous crew know every inch of the Sardinian coast and guarantee you the holiday of a lifetime! Luxury yacht JAJARO cruises at 22 knots with a top speed in excess of 30 knots.

Motor yacht JAJARO has plenty of toys including a Seabob F5. A second Seabob and Flyboard can be added on request.

Loro Piana SuperYacht Regatta (30 May – 3 June) is one of the flagship events of the area, opening the summer season of 2017. Eighteen superyachts and 12 Wally class boats registered for the 2016 edition of the regatta , which also featured an intense agenda of social events. On opening night, following a Welcome Cocktail, the guests attended a dinner prepared by Niko Romito to a piano soundtrack by Dimitri Naïditch and then hit the glamour party taking place at the nearby Phi Beach.

A tutta vela in Costa Smeralda: le regate di settembre da non perdere

Appuntamento a porto cervo per due eventi di grande richiamo, organizzati dallo yacht club costa smeralda (yccs): la maxi yacht rolex cup, dall’8 al 14 settembre, e, subito a seguire, la rolex swan cup, dal 15 al 21 settembre. e la festa non sarà solo tra le onde.

Uno “slalom” tra scogli a pelo d’acqua e isole: il mare della parte nordorientale della Sardegna , tra la Costa Smeralda e l’ arcipelago della Maddalena , è una sfida avvincente per i velisti di tutto il mondo. Pronti a dimostrare la loro abilità tra pochi giorni in uno dei campi di regata considerati tra i più belli ma anche tra i più impegnativi.

Le gare sono anche un’occasione di mondanità, con il crew party per tutti i partecipanti, la cena per gli armatori (esclusivamente su invito) e il quotidiano rinfresco post regata in piazza Azzurra . Tutti momenti che rendono un luogo-icona lo Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, fondato nel 1967 dall’ Aga Khan e da altri tre amici appassionati di vela.

La Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup

È uno degli eventi annuali più appassionanti e importanti del calendario velistico internazionale, immancabile per l’élite di progettisti e professionisti dello yachting. Quest’anno si svolge dall’8 al 14 settembre . La flotta attesa vedrà oltre 40 Maxi con lunghezza minima di 60 piedi, poco più di 18 metri fino ai 44 metri di Svea .

La principale novità di questa 34a edizione sarà lo svolgimento del primo Rolex IMA Maxi 1 World Championship , organizzato con la International Maxi Association (IMA) e riservato ai Maxi più performanti. Saranno dieci gli yacht con le caratteristiche per competere in questo nuovo titolo mondiale: Bullitt, Capricorno, Deep Blue, Django HF, Galateia, Leopard 3, Magic Carpet3, My Song, SHK Scallywag e V .

La Rolex Swan Cup

Subito dopo la Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup, prenderà il via la Rolex Swan Cup . Questa competizione è biennale, c’è quindi grande attesa per questa 22a edizione che includerà anche Nautor Swan nei festeggiamenti per il quarantennale di partnership tra YCCS, Rolex e Nautor Swan.

La Rolex Swan Cup raduna molti dei modelli costruiti dal 1966 a oggi, si va dal piccolo 36 piedi Josian del 1967 al più recente maxi di 98 piedi Drifter Cube . La flotta Swan ha una doppia anima, quella più orientata alle lunghe navigazioni e quella racing, con la gamma ClubSwan One Design. La novità di quest’anno sarà il debutto a Porto Cervo del ClubSwan 28 , di soli 8 metri e mezzo, il più piccolo modello mai costruito dal cantiere.

Tra gli yacht con più storia tra quelli attesi va segnalato il 65 piedi King’s Legend che giunse secondo nella seconda edizione della mitica Whitbread Round the World Race del 1977-78.

Orologi e vela: un po’ di storia

Dalla tecnologia della Marina agli orologi da polso: la storia di Rolex è quella di un’amicizia di vecchia data con il mondo della vela. Nel 1914, veniva rilasciato a un orologio da polso Rolex un certificato di precisione fino ad allora destinato esclusivamente ai cronometri da marina.

Nel 1926 Rolex l’azienda aveva brevettato l’ Oyster , il primo orologio da polso impermeabile, e nel 1931, il primo sistema di carica automatica con rotore libero, chiamato rotore Perpetual . Tutti passi che hanno Rolex portato allo sviluppo dell’ Oyster Perpetual YachtMaster di oggi. E alle partnership con una dozzina di prestigiosi yacht club in tutto il mondo (a partire da quella, a fine anni Cinquanta, con il New York Yacht Club (NYYC), che creò l’ America’s Cup ) e alla sponsorizzazione di una quindicina di grandi gare che hanno come cornice l’ Atlantico , il mar Mediterraneo e l’ oceano Pacifico .

Il Campionato Europeo Etchells 2024 si terrà a Cowes, ospitato dal Royal Yacht Squadron

Porto Cervo, 3 settembre 2024. Il Campionato Europeo Etchells che si sarebbe dovuto svolgere a Porto Cervo dal 3 al 6 ottobre sarà spostato a Cowes, ospitato dal Royal Yacht Squadron, dall'11 al 13 ottobre. 

In accordo con la Classe Etchells, per motivi logistici, la flotta si ritroverà quindi sull'Isola di Wight.

Lo Yacht Club Costa Smeralda vanta una solida collaborazione di lunga data con il Royal Yacht Squadron il quale si è detto molto lieto di poter ospitare la Classe Etchells, che spesso regata a Cowes.

The exteriors reflect the vision of Helsinki -based design studio, Aivan.

A defining characteristic of Ilma is its seamless transition between interior and exterior spaces, inviting guests to intimately connect directly to the sea and destinations sailed. Ilma, named after the Maltese word for "water," draws subtle design inspiration from Maltese mythology, coastline, history, and native fauna. The design narrative incorporates fresh, neutral tones juxtaposed by light and dark finishes, enhancing visual richness, while the adorned exterior nods to the sleek design of private yachts.

Ilma invites guests to discover five dining venues, a refreshed in-suite dining program, sevens bars, and a signature wine vault. Highlights include two dining venues conceptualized by MICHELIN-starred restaurant chefs Fabio Trabocchi and Michael Mina . Seta su Ilma by Chef Fabio Trabocchi is a modern Italian fine-dining restaurant reflecting his Italian heritage and culinary expertise. Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection debuts second newbuild superyacht

The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection has added a second newbuild luxury superyacht to its fleet.

Ilma sailed a seven-night maiden voyage from Monte Carlo to Rome on September 2.

Its inaugural season in the Mediterranean will include Santorini, Porto Cervo and Valletta as ports of call, before moving to the Caribbean and making stops in Virgin Gorda, Gustavia and St John.

For the first time, the Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection will include itineraries in the North and Baltic seas with itineraries around Amsterdam, Stockholm and Reykjavik.

The 790-foot-long ship features 224 suites with private terraces, all with direct access to the sea.

There are also five dining venues, including two headed up by Michelin-starred chefs, seven bars, a wine vault and a “refreshed” in-suite dining programme.
