Silver Whisper Review
Stepping onto 388-passenger Silver Whisper is much like stepping into Salvatore Ferragamo shoes. They both take you places, and in impeccable style. Words like "elegant," "classic," "pricy" and "comfortable" are perfect fits. Along with twin Silver Shadow, Silver Whisper hovers near the top of luxury cruise ship lists.
All accommodations are suites and most possess private verandas. Even entry-level suites impress, showcasing butler service, free standard Wi-Fi (biggest suites receive free premium), lavish in-suite dining presented course by course, liquor setup and stocked mini-fridges. Marble and granite baths wow; all feature separate showers, full-size tubs and double vanities. Suites also tout walk-in closets, so there's plenty of room for clothing, making weeks or months of cruising (as many Silver Whisper devotees do) easy.
Despite its small size, Silver Whisper features four restaurants: The Restaurant and La Terrazza for breakfast, lunch and dinner; the alfresco Grill for lunch and dinner; and La Dame for fancy evening dining at $60 per-diner fee -- an unusual charge for a specialty restaurant in a luxury cruise ship. (In fairness, La Dame chefs go hog-wild with luxury ingredients, such as lobster and foie gras.) Consider room service an experience, too, with butlers smoothing high-end white clothes over tables, carefully setting out polished silverware and serving elegant fare course by course. Most wines and spirits are complimentary 24/7, as is noteworthy caviar. The sustainable posh Italian roe, Ars Italica, is served by the tin on demand, with all the proper accoutrements.
Service hits nonstop high notes. Crew members learn your names and preferences on Day One and seem eager to spoil you rotten. With Silversea's no-tipping policy, such attentiveness comes from training and the heart, rather than attempts to garner gratuities. Crew are always smiling, polite and even charming (particularly the butlers and servers). When you walk down a suite corridor and encounter a crew member, that person acknowledges you and then steps aside so you can pass -- It feels quite like "The Crown." For buffet meals, servers hover nearby, wanting to carry your plate, even if it's tiny and merely holding a brownie.
Silver Whisper definitely skews traditional, including a formality of style and dress unlike more casual luxury ships. In fact, Silver Whisper passengers tend to dress up more than peers on some Silversea sister ships. Expect plentiful tuxedos on formal nights. This is not the place to come with a suitcase full of T-shirts, shorts and jeans, no matter who the designer. Entertainment, too, is on the low-key side, with most passengers reveling in the intimate ambiance, fine dining and primo service. Some don't even care about the ports --this ship, quite simply, is enough.

Fellow Passengers
Silversea cruises lure an international crowd. Although the majority are North American, the rest hail from the U.K., Europe and other countries. Passengers are affluent, well-traveled and well-educated. Most are retired, but many professional couples and the occasional family (with well-behaved children) also sail Silversea. Solo travelers -- mainly widows and older ladies -- appreciate Silversea's open-seating dining (with hosted singles tables) and cruises with dance hosts. Silver Whisper is gay-friendly, too.
Silversea Silver Whisper Dress Code
Daytime: Casual, with shorts and T-shirts in balmy weather. However, Silver Whisper passengers dress casually chic -- no tacky T-shirts or ripped-hem shorts.
Evening: Mostly informal, meaning jackets with optional ties for men, and dresses or pantsuits for women. Eight-day cruises usually have one formal night, where men don tuxedos and women wear fancy cocktail dresses or gowns. The Grill is casual optional every night. On casual nights, open-neck shirts for men and sundresses or shirts and slacks for women is typical.
Not permitted: Jeans, baseball caps and bathing attire after 6 p.m. in all public areas.

The Silver Whisper deck plan is easy to get around. There are a total of 7 passenger decks, the highest of which is deck 10.
- Reception : Deck 5
- Accommodation : Decks 4 to 9
- Main dining room : Deck 4
- Theatre : Deck 6
- Observation lounge : Deck 10
Silver Whisper debuted in 2001. She was the first in the new Millennium-class of ships for Silversea. Silver Whisper is larger and more spacious than earlier ships in the Silversea fleet. Indeed, Silver Whisper has room for 382 pampered guests in all-suite accommodation.
Silver Whisper has a very high space-to-passenger ratio. In fact she has more space per guest than almost any other cruise ship. As our Silver Whisper review shows, this fosters a close-knit atmosphere of camaraderie among the guests.
The luxurious Silver Whisper received a makeover in 2017. All the suites got new carpet as well as fresh sofa coverings. In addition, the public areas also got a fcae lift. Indeed, the makeover has been a great success. This luxury cruise ship looks like new with a contemporary decor that echoes the Silversea Italian heritage.
Your cruise fare on Silver Whisper is all inclusive. Everything is paid for. That includes meals, as well as wines, spirits and Champagne. On our Silver Whisper review sailing the house Champagne was Heidsieck Monopole Blue Top. We thought it was a very good drop!
Also included in the cruise fare are gratuities. So tipping is not required or expected. However, we would recommend tipping staff who go the extra mile. For example, if they arranging a cocktail party in your suite (which they are happy to do).
There is a free shuttle service between the port and the town if it is not near by.
Guests can also use the free self-service laundries.
For an additional charge guests can dine in the speciality restaurant Le Dame, or purchase premium alcoholic beverages.
Dining is a foodies delight on Silver Whisper. Indeed, Silversea have a great and well deserved reputation when it comes to food, as you will see from our Silver Whisper review.
Silver Whisper gets fresh produce from local markets whenever possible. The quality of the ingredients is exceptional. So the chefs regularly achieve gastronomic excellence.
The luxury cruise ship has four dining venues, these include La Terrazza, Le Dame, The Grill and the main dining room which is simply known as The Restaurant. Our Silver Whisper review covers them all.
In-suite dining is also available 24-hours a day.
In addition, the Observation Lounge serves and early risers breakfast. The Panorama Lounge also offers a traditional high tea each afternoon.
A single word can describe the dress code on Silver Whisper: Elegant. Shipboard attire ranges from casual to formal depending on the time of day.
In the public areas smart resort-wear is recommended during the day. After dark the dress code will be either casual, informal or formal. The daily Chronicle newsletter will indicate this.
For gentlemen casual attire includes open-neck shirts and slacks, for women it’s pants, blouses, skirts and casual dresses. Informal wear includes jackets for gentlemen (tie optional) and dresses or pantsuits for ladies. On formal nights during our Silver Whisper review most guests enjoyed dressing up. Gentlemen should wear a Tuxedo or dark suit and ladies should wear an evening gown.
The number of casual, informal and formal nights will depend on the length of your Silver Whisper voyage. Cruises of less than 10 days have one formal night, cruises between 10 and 13 days have two, while longer cruises have three formal evenings.
On formal nights, guests may dine in La Terrazza or The Grill and choose to dress informal. Although on our Silver Whisper review voyage most guests enjoyed dressing up.
Silver Whisper is a popular luxury cruise ship with a loyal following, so many passengers are return guests. They have usually travelled widely. Most are aged over 50.
Guests on Silver Whisper usually come from the U.S.A. and U.K. However there is often a large contingent from Canada and Australia on board too. A relatively small number of Europeans sail on Silver Whisper.
As with all Silversea cruise ships, Silver Whisper is gay-friendly.
With all the facilities of an up-market resort and the charm of a boutique hotel there’s a lot to love about the Silver Whisper. The personalised service, spacious suites and world-class dining all scored highly in our Silver Whisper review. In fact we rate Silver Whisper among the World’s finest luxury cruise ships.

This article is right on. My wife and I did a 14 day cruise on Silver Whisper to the Caribbean and had a wonderful time on the ship. Of the dining venues discussed in the article, “The Restaurant” is mentioned almost as an afterthought; we found it excellent too. We also were most impressed with the crew we met and dealt with. All of them were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Had a great time on Silver Whisper on our third SilverSea cruise.
I have a question please we are going on the silver Whisperer for Christmas and I’m interested in knowing how the curtains secured between the bedroom and the living room. Do we need to bring clips or something to keep it closed if one of us decides to sleep in. Thank you so much I am so excited and looking forward to our trip
Dear Cheryl
When I’ve sailed on Silver Whisper the curtains were always heavy, blackout type. When drawn closed almost no light was visible. I don’t think clips are necessary.
I hope this helps in your travel planning.
Kind regards Jason Kerr Managing Editor

Silver Whisper Review
Review of silver whisper.
The 2001-built MS Silver Whisper cruise ship is the fourth vessel in the Silversea fleet - preceded by Silver Cloud (1994), Silver Wind (1995) and the sistership Silver Shadow (2000).
The vessel (IMO number 9192179) is currently Bahamas- flagged (MMSI 308322000) and registered in Nassau .
History - construction and ownership
Silversea Cruises is a Monaco -based privately-owned cruise company and top-luxury travel brand. It was established in 1994 as joint venture of V-Ships Monaco (fka Vlasov Group) and Lefebvre Family of Rome Italy . In 2018, RCCL-Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd acquired 2/3rd of the company. Silversea now has a fleet of smaller-sized boutique cruise vessels with passenger capacity between 100-700. Company's business model is to operate yacht-like vessels in the industry's ultra-luxury-all-suite ship category. Silversea's all-inclusive fares include beverages (also selected wines), gratuities (none are allowed), travel insurance, port charges, one or more shore excursions (per voyage).
The 500-passenger ship Silver Whisper and her sistership Silver Shadow, hold slightly more guests than earlier Silversea ships. As a result, they offer a few more options – Internet center, poolside grill, cigar bar. But the experience is still relaxing, pampering, and elegantly casual. Not to mention the little extras, like free laundry facilities and complimentary shuttles in call ports, that make your vacation effortless.
Silver Whisper ship’s passengers are an interesting mix - geographically diverse, the mid-30s and up, hailing from Europe, the Far East, and America. Silversea's Whisper ship (just like her sister Shadow) has one of the highest ratios space-to-passenger – at 74, providing more space than any other ship. Another impressive ratio is passenger-to-crew – which on the Whisper ship is 1.31 to 1.
Silver Whisper's 2016 refurbishment resulted in refreshed suites (also fitted with dark marble floors in the bathrooms). Sun Deck received new furniture (premium sun loungers) and a newly tiled swimming pool. The Restaurant and La Terrazza received new furniture and hard-wood parquet and carpets. Two new satellite antennas were installed to provide increased Internet speeds. On-demand movies and interactive HDTVs were added to all cabins.
Decks and Cabins
Silver Whisper staterooms (194 total, in 12 grades) are all Suites and include 4x connecting and 2x wheelchair-accessible cabins. Outside suites range in size between 290-1435 ft2 (27-133 m2) and 80% of all accommodations feature step-out balconies. Standard Suites (Vista and Verandah) have sitting areas, large table, writing desks, video players, walk-in closets. The marble bathrooms offer a separate shower and tub. The owners’ suites are two, very spacious, featuring a living room, big plasma-screen TV, bar, dining and powder rooms, and one or two bedrooms (of course, with Jacuzzi bathrooms).
The boat has 10 decks , of which 8 are passenger-accessible and 6 with cabins.
Shipboard dining options - Food and Drinks
Dinner onboard Silver Whisper is the culinary highlight of each day at sea. The Restaurant offers a 6-course menu, with a variety of choices, including vegetarian entrees and “CruiseLite” menus (low fat, low cholesterol, low sodium). An intriguing option is also themed events at La Terrazza. Occasionally the restaurant opens for dinner throughout each voyage, offering any of 16 six-course menus that range from French, Asian and Italian to all-seafood. Terrace Cafe’s chef works with a sommelier to pair food with an appropriate wine. Reservations are required because these events are limited to 50 guests.
For breakfast, Silver Whisper guests can choose from light food options, set out in the Panorama and Observation lounges, or ample buffet in Terrace Cafe. Also open is the Restaurant, though for more formal breakfast. Terrace Cafe continues the buffet theme for lunch and the Restaurant offers more formal menus. Poolside Grille is an ultra-casual option – the menu features grilled chicken, burgers, fries, and salads.
Room service provides a 24-hour comprehensive menu and during meal times guests can order from Restaurant’s menu. The Whisper staff’s service is efficient and prompt – upon request, you will be served meals course-by-course, or all at once. Silver Whisper gratuities are included in the fare, extra tips aren’t encouraged.
Follows the complete list of Silver Whisper restaurants and food bars.
- The Restaurant (open-seating dining room with top-quality gourmet cuisine; features the most Mediterranean themed meals, and always available standard menu with daily specials; all three meals are waiter-served and a la carte)
- Le Champagne (20-seat French cuisine specialty restaurant; offers signature dishes by Relais Chateaux; dinner-only; reservations-only)
- La Terrazza (Terrace Cafe; complimentary buffet-style restaurant, offers both indoor seating and an alfresco terrace; wine is complimentary; there is also Afternoon Tea service; La Terrazza transforms each evening between 7:00 and 9:30 pm, into an Italian specialty restaurant, reservations-only, with a la carte menu)
- Pool Bar & Pool Grill (serve ship's pool deck area with fast food and drinks during the day; in the evening, the outdoor area becomes an al fresco dining venue with classic seafood and steakhouse choices, plus vegetarian and healthy selections)
- The Grill (offers gourmet dining under the stars with signature meals including lava-rocks grilled meat, seafood, Mediterranean vegetables, baked potatoes, salad of the day; wines are complimentary, except the premium ones from the Connoisseur’s Wine List; The Grill implements the line’s interactive dining concept “Black Rock Grill Experience”, which allows guests to cook their own meat and seafood).
Shipboard entertainment options - Fun and Sport
Maybe the busiest spots on the Silver Whisper cruise ship is the Internet Center, containing five computers, and each passenger has a pre-assigned onboard email address. An adjacent library with the usual bestseller books and a wonderful selection of videos uses another two terminals. Silver Whisper also has a Medical Center, fully serviceable by the way.
The Whisper’s Mandara Spa offers south Pacific exotic treatments. Silversea Cruises forbids spa therapists to engage guests in their annoying sales product attempts at treatments’ end. Silver Whisper spa treatments include traditional facials, massages, and even unusual offerings. The “Indonesian Natural Facial” is made with ingredients from seasonal vegetables and fruits. “Ultimate Indulgence” features two therapists who offer simultaneous one-person massage. Treatments are typically priced higher than onboard other lines, and the reason is that many of them last twice-as-long as average. Spa facilities also feature steam, sauna, and full-service beauty salon. An adequate fitness facility is adjacent to the spa, with treadmills, weight machines, exercise room. Daily fitness instructor classes are offered. Outdoors is a pool (big enough) with two whirlpools. Other athletic features include a running track, shuffleboard, golf cage, and ping-pong.
Additional amenities include 2 Launderettes, Medical Center/Infirmary, complimentary 24-hour Room Service, Internet/WiFi Access.
Follows the complete list of Silver Whisper lounges, clubs and other entertainment venues for kids, teens and adults.

Silver Whisper Wiki
Silver Whisper cruise ship was built in Italy, in 2001. The hull of the vessel was constructed at the yard of Visentini, near Trieste, while final outfitting, took place at the T. Marotti shipyard in Genoa.
Silversea Whisper cruise ship has an "elder" identical sister - Silver Shadow , that was launched in 2000. Godmother of the vessel is the wife of Silversea Cruises' Chairman Manfredi Lefebvre D'Ovidio - Marzia Lefebvre D'Ovidio. Mrs Lefebvre smashed a Salmanazar (9-liter bottle) of Moet & Chandon champagne in the ship's bow at the grand ceremony in the morning of the 18th of June, in Genoa Italy . On the 2nd of July, 2001, the ship began her maiden voyage between two capital city ports - Civitavecchia/Rome to London England .
Silversea ships Whisper and Shadow are famous for their world's best space-to-guest ratio - score of 74. This means they offer the most space per guest than any other mainstream or luxury cruise ship on the planet. Like all Silversea vessels, Shadow and Whisper also have very good guest-to-crew ratio - 1,3. All their officers and crew members are European trained.
(August 09, 2008 accident) the ship was reported to have a power failure at about 7 am, that affected the propulsion system. The ship was near the port of Lisbon Portugal and the problem was fixed in the afternoon.

The new Whisper Yachts from Symphony Marine: spacious, silent and eco-friendly
- Alex Giuzio
- May 3, 2022
Just say the name aloud and you can imagine yourself out on the open sea aboard these wonderful boats, surrounded by the wind of freedom and, above all, by the pleasure of silence that only an electric motor can give, combined with the even more important pleasure of not polluting. Whisper Yachts is the new range of luxury catamarans launched by Symphony Marine, which, following the new trends in zero environmental impact boating, has decided to equip its crafts with solar-powered electric motors.
Generally speaking, all the Whisper Yachts models are striking for the size of their spaces, which have been carefully designed to give the impression that they are l arger than they actually are. This can also be seen in the flybridge, which is equipped with sun loungers and sofas, as well as in the bow lounge and the cockpit lounge. The cockpit lounge can be accessed from the platform by descending a large staircase that crosses the entire width of the boat, allowing the guests to dive into the sea or simply lie out in the sun, staying very close to the water. Last but not least, the master cabin, with its island bed mounted crosswise, is also a very bright, spacious and comfortable space.
In terms of technical features, the propulsion and power management are based on a Torqeedo Deep Blue system. The two shaft motors of 100 kW each are powered by BMW 200 kWh batteries, with the possibility of temporarily increasing power to 2×120 kW so that the boat can reach a cruising speed of 18 knots for a maximum of one hour. Completing the work are 30 square metres of solar panels capable of producing 6 kWp, a 13.2 kW shore power connection and a 25 kW generator: according to the manufacturer’s declarations, the boat can cruise at a speed of 5/6 knots for an unlimited period of time, or at 8/9 knots for five consecutive hours without any polluting emissions, or even at 9/10 knots for ten consecutive hours with the help of the generator.
Whisper Yachts’ first 50-foot model has already been developed and is ready for delivery in the 2023 season. As the company’s presentation states, “Whisper-Yachts is aimed at yachtsmen looking for a yacht with the same luxurious finish as the most prestigious motor yacht manufacturers, while offering much more space, stability and range than a traditional monohull”. Thanks to the silent electric power supply, cruising will be like a breath of wind.

1981 nor'sea 27, listing price:.
Draft: 3.5 ft
Cruise: 5 kn, sail area: 376 ft2, description.
Whisper is listed at $60,000 with the trailer, but can also be bought without the trailer, boat only, for $50,000.
On the water photos coming in the next few weeks.
Whisper, a 1981 Nor’Sea 27 has been owned by the same owners for the last 27 years. Thanks to her bluewater ability and ability to be put on a trailer easily, she has seen Caribbean and Alaskan waters.
The Nor’Sea 27 was designed by Lyle Hess and first built in 1976. 450 boats were made, some sold complete and ready to sail and others as a kit. Hess designed the boat for the President of Heritage Marine, Dean Wixom, who was looking for a trailerable boat that could handle almost any weather. The Nor’Sea 27 is based on the traditional lines of a Norwegian Spitzgatter.
The Nor’Sea 27 had two cabin configurations, both with sleeping accommodation for four people. Whisper is the desired aft cockpit which has a bow cabin up front, with two settees, one on each side of the compression post aft of the bow cabin.
There is a small galley with a stainless steel sink, portable two burner stove, and a good amount of storage and even cooking prep space for a 27ft boat. Just aft and to port of the galley is a wet head that has a tile floor with a shower, and removable/portable head.
Aft of the head are two quarterberths, with the starboard side having a map table.
She was repowered in 2015 with a Yanmar 2YM15 motor that has 60hrs on her. Standard maintenance/service has consistently been done annually. New fuel tank was put in when engine was replaced in 2015 as well.
Last bottom paint was in 2020 which was the last time that she was in the water. She has been both wrapped and kept inside a shed when not in-use.
Water was added to the bilge (as shown in engine photos) to ensure that the bilge float is operational during summer 2024 tests.
Whisper has beautiful woodwork throughout, the exterior is in good shape, and is ready to cruise!
