The unspent part of the charter APA is later returned to the guests or spent on marina fees and fuel during your week.

Our crew is all fluent in English and sometimes also multilingual. Together with our local skipper, they will make sure that your cruising adventure in Croatia is and indulging and a one-of a-kind experience.

Basic assignments of a hostess

• keeping all areas on yacht clean and tidy
• handling the provisioning throughout the trip (shopping for supplies, stocking boat lockers before and during your trip)
• she prepares and serves two light meals daily (breakfast and one simple lunch). Extra meals are option with an additional fee.
• washes the dishes, cleans the galley and salon

A Tip: We advise to transfer her some APA money (advanced provisioning allowance) so that she can supply your boat before arrival.

2. Hiring a Cook/Chef

The general assignment for cook on board is to prepare 3 meals a day , considering the client's preferences and what kind of food do they want. Usual fee for cook starts at  170€ per day . However, it can vary and mostly depends the boats size and number of the guests aboard.

How much does it cost to hire a hostess?

That depends on the level of the tasks, requests and how many guests are there to cater. Her basic fee is 130€ per day and can go up to 180€ . This fee does not include gratuity nor the meals for the crew; They can join you for meals or allow 30€ pocket money per crew member per day.

Where does a hostess sleep?

The front bow cabins on catamarans are usually occupied with the crew, that is why we recommend to charter sailing yacht with 2 separate crew cabins. Most of the sailing catamarans in Croatia have such a layout. Sometimes, the crew can also sleep in the salon, but it is not something we advise, since everyone needs time to rest, so they can give you their best during the day.

It is also customary to take care of the crew's meals on your sailing trip. Feel free to invite your crew to join you at the dinner, they will be more than happy. If you wish to dine in privacy, they can east separately.

A Tip: When you hire a hostess you already have 2 meals included. That gives you extra time to explore the islands where you can dine in a local restaurant your crew will be happy to recommend. Here you can taste Dalmatian delicacies in fisherma's tavern called "konoba" - a must try!

The gratuity amount is usually 5% - 15% of the charter cost when budgeting your holiday make sure that this cost is included in your calculation. Crew members remain ready to help you in every possible way and time during your holiday and do a very hard job. Gratuity is just another way of saying "thank you" for taking good care of you.

After confirming the availability of your chosen yacht and your booking coming through, you will receive a MYBA charter agreement. MYBA is the Mediterranean Yacht Broker Association and sets the standards for everyone in the industry to adhere to. With it, we can guarantee you the impeccable service you seek. The agreement will also include any additional charges and taxes that may apply to your choice of itinerary.

APA is Advanced Provisioning Allowance. Paid in advance, it covers any additional expenses you rack up during your charter week. It includes fuel, marina fees, on-yacht meals, water toy usage, services, etc. Per the MYBA agreement, it’s usually in the range of 30-40% of the full price. If by the end of your cruise, you haven’t spent the entire amount, you’ll receive the remainder of it back. If your expenses exceed the upfront paid amount, you’ll have to cover them before disembarking.

From the moment you reach out to us, we work closely with you to determine your wishes and preferences and plan your itinerary accordingly. You’ll have to adhere to your yacht’s possible limitations and heed any captain’s advice. Yacht cruises are subject to weather conditions, marina availability, etc. But we always do everything in our power to reach your utmost satisfaction.

Booking yacht charters right before or already in the season is virtually impossible. Therefore, we suggest you aim to book the preferred vessel at least 6 months in advance to avoid the risk of losing out on it or the preferred dates.

Croatia, with its Mediterranean climate, offers a broad window into when you can visit it on a yacht charter. If you prefer milder temperatures and lesser crowds, we suggest visiting in spring or fall. Even though the summer season sees the most traffic, you can enjoy a cruise outside it just as much, if not more.

Gratuities are not subject to any written agreement, but they are customary. Depending on your satisfaction with the crew and service, you can pay between 10% and 15% to the captain, who will divide it among the entire staff.

In January 2023, Croatia switched from Kuna to Euro. For payments onboard, you should carry some cash with you. As for the other transactions in the country, you can count on most places having an option for card payment. If not, you won’t have much trouble finding ATMs around, either.

The crew understands and can communicate with you in English. Some members are even multilingual, speaking languages like Spanish, Italian, German, etc. If you have any preferences, you may let us know, and we will find the best solution for you.

Additionally, locating secluded bays might prove challenging during peak season, and maintaining tranquility after midnight is expected. If planning a large celebration, it is advisable to inform the captain beforehand to preempt any potential complications. Anchoring in bays offers a delightful opportunity for morning swims and delightful dinners beneath the stars, yet it is suggested to converse with your captain and arrange for dinner instead of lunch when opting for a half-board package.

In Norddalmatien können Sie ab folgenden Häfen eine Motoryacht mit Crew/Skipper mieten: Opatja, Pula, Rovinj, Pomer und Krk.

Gesucht: Skipper mit mehr als nur Scheinen

Viele fahrten gehen unkommentiert in die logbücher ein, profiskipperin anna sult.

Der Traum vom Segeln steht über allem. Reisen mit dem Wind, der Duft fremder Häfen, ein Leben auf dem Wasser. Ja, die Verlockung ist groß, dieses Dasein zum Hauptberuf zu machen. In unserer individualisierten Gesellschaft ist das Motto „Live your dream!“ fast schon zum Imperativ geworden. Die weniger bunten Momente blenden Instagram, Tiktok und Youtube dagegen meist aus.

Das gilt auch und besonders für das Metier, dem sich Anna Sult verschrieben hat. Sie hat das Segeln erst spät entdeckt, während des Studiums. Doch rasch war für sie klar: „Das ist es.“ Inzwischen verdient sie als Profiskipperin ihren Lebensunterhalt – eine von nur wenigen Frauen in Deutschland, die das nicht nebenher oder in Teilzeit betreiben, sondern ausschließlich. Ein Beruf, der keineswegs immer nur Champagnersegeln bedeutet.

Denn das Betätigungsfeld der Charter- und Überführungstörns ist kaum reglementiert. Wer hier mitmischt, bewegt sich in einer Grauzone – ohne Standesvertretung, ohne geregelte Arbeitszeiten, mitunter auch unter bestenfalls salopper Einhaltung von geltenden Sicherheitsvorschriften.

Rainer Holtorff, der seit vielen Jahren im Geschäft ist und vom Segeln lebt, sagt es so: „Im Grunde führen wir ein Schattendasein. Die Szene ist kaum bezifferbar. Sie reicht vom urlaubenden Hochschullehrer, der sich gelegentlich als Skipper verdingt, bis hin zum Profi mit Kapitänspatent und Ingenieurstudium, der monate- oder gar jahrelang in Fest­anstellung eine Superyacht betreut.“

Auch die Auftraggeber sind so vielschichtig wie die Segler selbst. Zum Kundenkreis gehören Segelschulen, Werften, Vercharterer, Reiseagenturen oder Eigner, die ihre Schiffe von A nach B bringen lassen wollen. Nicht selten sind Yachten dabei spontan zu besetzen, müssen Crews auf die Schnelle zusammengewürfelt werden.

Auch die Törndauer variiert: von ein paar Tagen bis zu Monaten. Entsprechend unterschiedlich sind die Etappen. Mal macht man Bornholm–Kiel, mal Martinique–Mallorca. Dringend gesucht sind heute immer öfter Segler, die nicht vor der Verantwortung für solche Fahrten zurückschrecken. Skipper, die nicht nur alle nötigen Scheine besitzen, sondern auch die entsprechende Erfahrung mitbringen.

Psychologen könnten hier und da interessante Feldforschungen anstellen. An Bord treffen nämlich verschiedenste Charaktere aufeinander: Abenteurer und Normalos, Millionäre und Studenten, begeisterte Anfänger wie altgediente Salzbuckel. Und dann kann so eine Fahrt schon mal in einem Experiment enden. Denn selbst wenn es zahllose wundervolle Momente auf dem Meer gibt und diese meist überwiegen: Immer wieder ist auch von Scherereien an Bord zu hören, von Meutereien und zwischenmenschlichen Spannungen.

Dass diese unkonventionelle Sparte des Profisegelns durchaus einer Art Wildwest des Wassersports gleichkommt, hat noch weitere Gründe. Oft müssen die Skipper Schiffe übernehmen, die ihnen völlig unbekannt sind. Die Systeme fremd, die Funkanlage neu, die in der hintersten Backskiste verstauten Signalmittel unauffindbar. Nicht selten haben die Profis obendrein mit technischen Problemen zu kämpfen, bevor es überhaupt losgeht.

Und dabei müssen sie sich auf jedes Fahrzeug einstellen – von der kleinen Gebrauchtyacht bis zum millionenschweren Luxus-Katamaran. Erschwerend kommen auf vielen Törns noch andere Faktoren hinzu: Termindruck, enge Wetterfenster, personelle Ausfälle und Zoff bei der Bezahlung. Denn auch hier gibt es weder Regeln noch feste Tarife. Von der allgemeinen Logistik ganz zu schweigen: spontane Flugbuchungen, Ersatzteilbeschaffung oder auch nur das Proviantieren in fremden Ländern.

Keine Frage: Das Leben als Profiskipper wird nicht langweilig. Was an Bord wirklich geschieht, wissen meist nur die Crews selbst. Viele Fahrten gehen unkommentiert in die Logbücher ein. Und dabei sind es inzwischen unzählige Yachten, die irgendwo zwischen Karibik und Ostsee unterwegs sind – gesteuert von angeheuerten Schiffsführern, die mehr oder weniger auf eigene Faust agieren.

Umso so bemerkenswerter, wenn sich in diesem rustikalen Umfeld eine junge Frau zu Hause fühlt. Eine wie Anna Sult, die sich nicht nur bei Wind und Wetter behauptet, sondern auch in einer losen Gemeinschaft meist männlicher Mitsegler.

Während Frauen in den olympischen Klassen wie auch im Hochseesport längst angekommen sind, bilden Profi­skipperinnen bei Überführungen und auf Langfahrttörns die große Ausnahme. Warum so wenige diesen Traum vom Leben auf dem Wasser verwirklichen? Darüber sprachen wir mit der 36-jährigen Kölnerin, die gelernt hat, auch mit schwierigen Mitseglern und herausfordernden Momenten umzugehen. Die sich in ihrem Wunschjob nicht nur irgendwie durchschlägt, sondern gelernt hat, sich zu behaupten.

Die Rheinländerin ist eine Spätberufene. Sie kam erst während ihres Studiums in Berlin so richtig zum Segeln, zunächst auf Jollen, dann auf Yachten. Im Hochschulsport machte sie von 2011 an alle Lizenzen bis zum Sportseeschifferschein, der für Ausbildungs- und Berufsskipper vorgeschrieben ist. Zu ihren Lieblingsrevieren zählt die 36-Jährige die Nordsee und den Atlantik. Sie hat aber auch viele Törns auf der Ostsee und im Mittelmeer geskippert. Kontakt: [email protected]

YACHT: Anna, du hast einen ziemlich krassen Karriere­schritt vollzogen – von der Ausgrabungsspezialistin zur Vollblutseglerin. Wie das?

Anna Sult: Da war kein Plan. Es hat sich so entwickelt. Ich habe 2015 mein Archäologie-Studium abgeschlossen, Schwerpunkt: Konservierung, Restaurierung und Grabungstechnik. Das ist eher die praktische Seite der Archäologie. Die Arbeit findet meist draußen statt. Genau mein Ding.

Wie kamst du zum Segeln?

Nach dem Bachelor überlegte ich, ob ich mit der Archäologie wirklich weitermachen will – oder ob mich das Segeln am Ende nicht doch noch mehr reizt. Ich hatte bereits viele Törns gemacht. Ich absolvierte schließlich noch den Master in Landschaftsarchäologie. Danach aber musste ich Geld verdienen und mir einen Job suchen. Also bewarb ich mich spontan bei einer Segelschule. Ich besaß bereits alle nötigen Scheine und hatte viele Seemeilen gesammelt.

Wann hast du mit dem Segeln begonnen?

Schon mein Vater gab mir die Affinität zu Booten und die Sehnsucht nach dem Meer mit. Er nahm uns Kinder immer mit zur boot Düsseldorf. Kurz vor dem Abitur segelte ich mit Freunden auf dem IJsselmeer – und war total begeistert. Als ich dann mit dem Studium in Berlin begann, sah ich, dass man im Rahmen des Hochschulsports einen Bootsführerschein machen konnte. So ging’s los.

Die meisten belassen es irgendwann dabei. Was hat dich zum Yachtsport gebracht?

Der Leiter der Segelschule in Berlin sah, dass ich engagiert bei der Sache war. Ich segelte erste See-Törns mit, und schon bald setzte mich die Schule aktiv ein. Ich sollte Neulingen Stoff vermitteln und die Grundlagen beibringen. Danach kamen immer mehr Törns. Der Leiter der Schule ermutigte mich dazu, weitere Scheine zu machen, den SKS, den SSS, das LRC. So lernte ich ständig hinzu und sammelte Seemeilen. Aber ich fragte mich zu diesem Zeitpunkt immer: Wozu brauche ich all diese Scheine eigentlich? Nicht im Traum dachte ich da­ran, einmal selbst ein Boot zu skippern, geschweige denn, größere Yachten zu überführen. Ich war 23. Ich war Studentin.

Wann kam der Schritt vom Crewmitglied zur Skipperin?

Nach dem Studium unterrichtete ich bei einer anderen Schule Jollensegeln und Surfen und half im Büro. Weil ich viele Langstreckentörns gesegelt hatte, wurde ich irgendwann als Co-Skipperin eingesetzt. Eines Tages kam schließlich die Anfrage von meinem Arbeitgeber, selbst einen Törn zu skippern. Ein Kollege war ausgefallen, man brauchte dringend Ersatz. Ich sollte die Einweisung an Bord übernehmen und schon mal die erste Etappe segeln. Diesmal als Hauptverantwortliche, von Kiel nach Maasholm. Das war keine weite Strecke, aber als junge Skipperin schon eine Erfahrung. Alles lief bestens – und bald sollte ich die nächsten Törns übernehmen.

Wohin führten diese Reisen?

Ich skipperte zunächst viel in der Dänischen Südsee, mit Kiel als Start- und Zielhafen. Das Boot war meist eine Bavaria 36, ohne Autopilot, Windmesser und Kartenplotter. Wir mussten uns in Kartennavigation üben. Das waren herrliche Fahrten. An Bord meist junge Leute, darunter viele Studenten. Ich erinnere mich an viele tolle Menschen und Momente.

Warst du als Skipperin die einzige Frau an Bord?

Nein, oft segelten auch andere Frauen mit. Viele haben auf diesen Reisen ihre Scheine gemacht. Das war überhaupt nichts Ungewöhnliches. Doch spätestens bei der Prüfung zum Sportseeschifferschein dünnte es sich aus. Dieser Schein wird einem nicht geschenkt. Als die Prüfer mich sahen, schauten sie auf: „Eine so junge Frau hier?“, sagten sie verdutzt. „Das erleben wir selten!“

Inzwischen hast du mehrere Dutzend Törns geleitet, darunter Überführungen an der Atlantikküste und im Mittelmeer sowie einmal transatlantik. Das sind keine Schulungsfahrten auf der Ostsee mehr.

In der Tat. Neben den Ausbildungstörns und Kojencharter sind Überführungen noch mal eine ganz andere Welt. Dort spielen sich viele Dinge jenseits festgelegter Grenzen und Regularien ab. Sagen wir so: Es gibt dort keinen definierten Rahmen. Ein Haifischbecken würde ich es nicht nennen. Aber bei solchen Törns muss man sich schon durchsetzen.

Wie bist du dazu gekommen?

Bei einer längeren Überführung war ich Teil der Crew und lernte in Vigo einen Profiskipper kennen. Das war 2015, direkt nach dem Studium. Wir waren auf unseren Schiffen eingeweht, tauschten unsere Kontakte aus, und bald darauf fragte er mich an, als Co-Skipperin eine Yacht von Holland in die Ostsee zu segeln. Daraufhin wurde ich öfter angeheuert, auch von Privateignern – nicht mehr als Crew, sondern immer öfter als Co-Skipperin.

Warum nicht gleich als Chefin an Bord?

Ich scheute mich zu dieser Zeit noch, einen Auftrag als Skipperin abzuwickeln. Das ist ja noch mal eine höhere Verantwortung. Die Schiffe sind oft größer und teurer, das sind keine gebrauchten Schulboote mehr. Oft sind zudem die Eigner an Bord, gern mal ältere Männer. Wenn ich dann als junge Frau den Kapitän geben muss, kann es schon mal zu Kompetenzstreitigkeiten kommen. Stattdessen flatterte mir zu dieser Zeit ein anderer Auftrag ins Haus: meine erste Atlantiküberquerung von Nantucket nach Portimão, auf der ich Teil der bezahlten Crew war.

Wie hast du deine erste Ozeanpassage erlebt?

Ereignisreich! Zwischen den Azoren und Portugal rammten wir einen Pottwal. Das Schiff erlitt Wassereinbruch, wir versuchten mit vereinten Kräften das Boot zu retten. Bald liefen die Bilgepumpen heiß und fielen aus. Im Bikini und mit Eimer kletterte ich in den Maschinenraum und lenzte per Hand. So fanden wir die Ursache des Lecks: ein Bruch im Laminat. Mit Ach und Krach und allerlei Bordmitteln schafften wir es zum Glück bis Portugal. Eine weitere Erfahrung.

Irgendwann kam der erste Überführungsjob als Skipperin. Noch mal ein großer Schritt. Wo und wann war das?

Eine Überführung von Korfu nach Novigrad in Kroatien, auf die ich mich beworben hatte. Ein Eignerpaar, das einen gebraucht gekauften Katamaran nach Istrien bringen wollte, mochte den Trip nicht allein machen. Ich segelte den Törn als Skipperin, und alles lief bestens. Das war vor fünf Jahren

Worin lag und liegt für dich hier der besondere Reiz?

Ich übernehme solche Überführungen inzwischen sehr gern. Sie sind besser bezahlt, und man muss – neben der Rolle als Verantwortungsperson – nicht ständig präsent sein und obendrein von morgens bis abends die Mannschaft bespaßen. Außerdem sind es meist längere Törns, was ich besonders mag. Heute fahre ich mindestens drei solcher Törns pro Jahr, jeweils drei bis sechs Wochen.

Das hört sich nach purem Segeln an. Aber sicher gibt es auch fordernde Momente auf solchen Reisen?

Oft bekommt man ein Schiff einfach „hingestellt“, und dann heißt es: So, jetzt komm damit klar. Nicht alle Yachten sind aber wirklich fit und ausreichend ausgerüstet für die anstehenden Fahrten. Auch tauchen immer wieder technische Probleme auf, mit denen ich als Skipperin klarkommen muss – vom Riss im Großsegel bis zu ausgasenden Batterien. Spannend wird es bei Starkwind und in Situationen, in denen man sich als Verantwortungsperson beweisen muss. Alle schauen auf dich und fragen: Und – was macht die jetzt?

Kannst du ein Beispiel nennen?

Wir mussten einmal von der Schlei nach Kiel zu einer SKS-Prüfung, als ein heftiger Herbststurm aufzog. Es war bereits Anfang Oktober, und im Hafen sank langsam der Wasserstand. Die Laune an Bord ging ebenfalls nach unten, denn wir hatten ja einen Termin. Da muss man schon überlegen, was man macht.

Wie hast du reagiert?

Ich fragte in die Runde, wie die Stimmung ist, ob die Crew bereit sei, sich da durch zu wagen. Segeln besteht ja nicht nur aus Schönwettertörns. Ich traf dann die Entscheidung, dass wir auslaufen.

Wie ging es aus?

Wir fuhren gegen den Wind aus der Schlei, draußen kam uns schon ein kleiner Rettungskreuzer entgegen. Es regnete und war mächtig am Pusten. Natürlich ringt man da innerlich mit sich: War das jetzt die richtige Entscheidung? Wir hatten lediglich ein kleines Vorsegel oben, kreuzten vorsichtig gegenan und haben es am Ende recht gut nach Kiel geschafft. Das war zwar keine große Entfernung. Aber in solchen Situationen als Verantwortliche Entscheidungen zu treffen, und das ohne Rückendeckung der Segelschule – da­ran muss man sich gewöhnen. Du bist auf dich selbst gestellt, und das unter Termindruck.

Du warst gerade Anfang 30, als es mit solchen Törns losging. Fühltest du dich als junge Skipperin wie eine Außenseiterin? Gab es Momente, in denen deine Autorität in Frage gestellt wurde?

Meist war es in dieser Hinsicht entspannt an Bord. Es herrschte ein gutes Miteinander. Und natürlich gab es viele wunderschöne Erlebnisse: auf See wie in den Häfen. Bei Ko­jencharter lief es meistens rund. Und das, obwohl die Mannschaften auch hier teils sehr bunt zusammengewürfelt sind. Aber klar, es gab Ausnahmen.

Zum Beispiel?

Wir waren beim Manövertraining vor Langeland. Beim Boje-über-Bord-Manöver griff sich ein Mann mittleren Alters unaufgefordert das Ruder, prompt kam es zu einer Patenthalse, und das bei gut Wind. Der Baum schlug mit Macht um, wir alle waren erschrocken. Als ich dann jemand anderes ans Ruder schickte, reagierte er extrem gereizt. Er konnte offenbar nicht akzeptieren, dass ich ihn als jüngere Frau anwies, das Steuer abzugeben. Der Mann blieb auf der gesamten restlichen Fahrt eingeschnappt. Ein Kommando von einer Frau zu akzeptieren, das war offensichtlich zu viel für ihn.

Dabei segeln Frauen längst knallharte Offshore-Rennen. Teenagerinnen haben allein die Welt umrundet. Frau am Ruder – ist das beim Segeln heute nicht längst selbstverständlich geworden?

In vielen Bereichen unseres Sports mag das so sein, vom Regatta- übers Touren- bis hin zum Freizeitsegeln. Auch bei den Ausbildungstörns treffe ich unterwegs gelegentlich Skipperinnen. Aber im Grunde nie solche, die dauerhaft und ausschließlich vom Segeln leben. Spätestens bei den Überführungen jedoch habe ich noch nie eine andere Frau kennengelernt, die dies wirklich hauptberuflich macht.

Gibt es Angebote, die du rundweg ablehnst?

Bei vielen Überführungen wird die Fahrt gleichzeitig zur Kojencharter. Ein Schiff soll zum Beispiel im Auftrag einer Charterfirma von A nach B gebracht werden, und um die Kosten reinzubekommen, werden die Plätze an Bord verkauft. Ich bin dabei die Skipperin, aber die Crew wird gestellt. Das passiert sogar recht häufig. Damit muss man sich arrangieren. Man ist mit einer wildfremden Crew konfrontiert, die auch noch ein sehr heterogenes Leistungs- und Erfahrungsniveau hat. Das kann klappen, muss aber nicht. Da winke ich schon mal ab. Eine Lagoon 40 sollte zum Beispiel von Mallorca nach Teneriffa, dann weiter in die Karibik. Die erste Etappe habe ich gemacht, die zweite habe ich abgelehnt. Mit einer mir unbekannten Mannschaft über den Atlantik, das war mir zu heiß.

Gab es andere kritische Situationen, in denen du als Frau auf dich gestellt warst oder besonders kämpfen musstest?

In manchen Situationen fühlt man sich schon allein gelassen. Obwohl ich sagen muss: Mit den meisten Männern geht es sehr gut; da gibt es überhaupt keine Probleme. Als Frau sollte man dennoch stets mit Ausnahmen rechnen. Auf einer Fahrt von Mallorca nach Teneriffa hatte ich mal einen Mann an Bord, der von Anfang an meine Autorität untergrub. Nach dem Motto: Ich segle viel länger als du, Mädchen – was willst du mir eigentlich erzählen. Ich hatte mir diesen Mitsegler nicht ausgesucht, er war mir zugeteilt worden. Ich hatte jedoch keinen Nerv, mich neben dem Segeln, das durchaus anspruchsvoll war, auch noch mit solchen Eitelkeiten auseinanderzusetzen. So kam es irgendwann zum Zwist, und in Gibraltar stieg der Mann aus.

Unter welchen Umständen?

Auf dem Schiff waren vier Männer. Dazu ich als skippernde Frau – zudem die Jüngste an Bord. Schon das ist eine Ausnahmesituation. Hinzu kam das Wetter: Ein Tief nach dem anderen zog durch, der Wind wehte stark gegenan. Bald war klar: Wir würden den Termin in Teneriffa nicht halten können, sondern mussten Schutz suchen in den Häfen um Gibraltar. Die Crew wurde ungeduldig. Die Leute haben ja auch nicht ewig Zeit; die wollen Meilen machen. Das kann ich grundsätzlich verstehen. Aber dann verschlechterte sich das Wetter noch mehr: In der Spitze sollten wir 50 Knoten Wind bekommen. Ich entschied: Nein, wir fahren da nicht raus. Einer aus der Crew sah das anders. Er schaute auf die Refftabellen, sagte, dass das Boot dafür ausgelegt sei, ungeachtet des Amwind-Kurses. Ich aber blieb ganz klar: Nein! So etwas bedingt natürlich Stress. Wenn einer der Männer dann auch noch posaunt: Die will nicht weiter, die will sich lieber eine schöne Zeit im Hafen machen – da kann einem bei aller Professionalität und Distanz schon mal der Kragen platzen.

Was geschah?

Am Ende waren wir nur noch zu dritt, weil der Mannschaft die Zeit ausging. Daher musste ich mir bei Gibraltar eine neue Crew zusammensuchen, und war nach wie vor als einzige Frau an Bord. Aber wir haben es gut nach Teneriffa geschafft.

Gab es noch weitere knifflige Konstellationen?

Ein anderes Mal, unterwegs von Les Sables-d’Olonne über Mallorca nach Kroatien, passte die Chemie nicht. Ein älterer Mann, bereits Ende 60, wollte auf einmal nur noch mit meinem Co-Skipper kommunizieren. Er hatte Schwierigkeiten, sich mit Fragen an mich zu wenden, geschweige denn, Kommandos von mir anzunehmen. So etwas kommt durchaus vor.

Auf einem anderen Törn lief das Anlegemanöver chaotisch ab. Ich wollte die Situation danach noch einmal in Ruhe durchsprechen. Einer der Segler an Bord machte allerdings sofort dicht, begann zu pöbeln und zeigte keinerlei Einsicht. Er wollte oder konnte nicht verstehen, dass es um eine konstruktive Analyse ging, nicht um Schuldzuweisungen. Doch die Situation war nicht mehr zu retten.

Was hast du aus solchen Situationen gelernt?

Man darf sich gar nicht erst auf der Nase herumtanzen lassen. An Bord herrschen Regeln. Wenn ich vor dem Reffen und Ausreffen geweckt werden will, dann hat das auch zu geschehen. Da kann nicht jeder tun oder lassen, was er will. Und auch das habe ich gelernt: Wenn nur einer in der Crew meint, sein eigenes Ding machen zu müssen, dann musst du dich sofort und deutlich durchsetzen. Sonst schwappt das schnell auf die anderen über. Was nicht heißt, dass man nicht gemeinsam überlegt und Situationen abwägt. Das gehört zum Segeln. Am Ende jedoch sagt einer an und trägt die Verantwortung: ich!

Wie sieht das konkret aus?

In der Regel herrscht ein guter Umgangston an Bord. Diskussionen und alternative Meinungen sind willkommen. Wie könnte ein Plan B aussehen? Was, wenn wir zwei Tage diesen oder jenen Kurs fahren? So lernt man beim Segeln schließlich dazu: Situationen durchspielen, Varianten prüfen. Aber dann beharre ich auf meiner Entscheidung. Basta!

Das klingt nicht immer leicht. Ist Segeln dennoch dein Traumjob geblieben?

Auf jeden Fall! Momentan möchte ich mit dem Skippern unbedingt weitermachen. Selbstständig zu arbeiten kann zwar hart sein. Und das betrifft keineswegs nur das Segeln selbst. Man muss sich um Aufträge kümmern, das Leben drumherum organisiert bekommen. Aber für den Moment ist für mich ganz klar: Ich will segeln!

Worin liegt am Ende der große Reiz?

Die Mischung macht es. Andere Länder, andere Orte entdecken. Auch lernt man viele neue Menschen kennen – und in den meisten Fällen ist das eine sehr bereichernde Erfahrung. Denn in der Regel sind es sehr nette Crews, die zusammenkommen und mit denen man wundervolle Erlebnisse teilt.

Vor allem anderen kommt aber das Segeln. Auf Nachtwache allein am Steuer stehen und in die Sterne blicken. Spüren, wie das Boot gut läuft. Das mag ich. Ich bin einfach zu gern da draußen auf See.
