Cursus yachtman, offshore's cursus yachtman.

De Yachtman is in principe in staat om, waar dan ook ter wereld, een zeereis voor te bereiden en tot een goed einde te brengen (met uitzondering van een oceaanreis). Het Brevet Yachtman is een Belgisch kustvaartbrevet voor de pleziervaart en wordt internationaal aanvaard bij het charteren van zeil- of motorjachten. Offshore's cursus Yachtman is al meer dan twintig jaar een referentie in België. Hoofdlesgever Tom Robeyn staat bekend voor zijn praktische gerichte, no-nonsense aanpak. Aangename lessen gegarandeerd.

Sinds 2020 Is het brevettensysteem in België modulair opgebouwd. Dit wil zeggen dat u pas een brevet Yachtman kan bekomen als u eerst het Algemeen Stuurbrevet heeft behaald. Offshore's cursus Yachtman is meteen een voorbereiding voor het Algemeen Stuurbrevet. U hoeft hiervoor geen aparte cursus te volgen. Als u nog geen stuurbrevet op zak heeft, kan u het examen voor het Stuurbrevet en Yachtman op één dag afleggen. Veel Offshore cursisten doen dat zo.

Met dit professioneel vaarbrevet commerciële yachting kan men varen met jachten en boten tot maximum 200GT, tussen 2,5 en 24 meter, met maximaal 12 betalende passagiers, tot 30 zeemijl uit een kust.

NaviClass is erkend door de Belgische FOD Mobiliteit om deze STCW opleidingen te organiseren (conform KB 22/08/2020).

Alle kapiteins/officiers die werken of willen werken op een jacht die commercieel uitgebaat wordt.

STCW Commerciële Yachting 200GT kent 2 niveaus, namelijk:

• Master 200GT

Om deel te nemen dient u te beschikken over een Yachtman brevet of gelijkwaardig beoordeeld door de evaluatiecommissie.

Aangezien er vergelijkbare certificaten in verschillende IMO landen behaald kunnen worden, zal de NaviClass evaluatiecommissie na uw aanmelding bepalen of u kan starten in deze opleiding en/of u eventueel een vrijstelling kan verkrijgen voor een bepaalde opleidingsmodule.

Certificatie

Als u alle nodige opleidingsmodules gevolgd heeft, levert NaviClass een getuigschrift af.

Dit getuigschrift, samen met uw STCW veiligheidscertificaten, GMDSS ROC, certificaat van medische geschiktheid en vaartstaat moeten bezorgd worden aan de Belgische FOD mobiliteit.

Yachtmaster Offshore Training

The IYT Worldwide Yachtmaster Offshore certificate is a recreational certificate of competency to command sailing and/or power vessels up to 24 metres in length up to 150 nm offshore. It is a comprehensive theory and live aboard course consisting of five days classroom theory and a practical component of six days for sail or five days for power including the practical on the water examination. The minimum age to obtain this certification is 18. Candidates must either hold a recognised VHF Radio Operators Certificate or must take the full IYT VHF-SRC Marine Communications course and school must place order for this certificate while placing order for the Yachtmaster Certificate of Competency.  If ordering VHF at the same time as Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate please upload a note to this effect.  We have provided a sample note to upload when placing order. * Please note that we do not accept ISSA VHF qualifications.  (I f you are unsure if your radio license will be accepted, please send a scanned copy of the front and back of your license to [email protected] .  We will verify that your license is sufficient to receive the IYT Yachtmaster Offshore license).  

The courses are designed to provide the highest standard of maritime education for the recreational yachtsman and woman and for those who are serious about obtaining the best nautical qualifications available. They are ideal for those who greatly want to expand their knowledge and experience and increase their confidence in commanding a yacht. For those who are taking the courses, completion of the five-day STCW Basic Safety training courses is not required but highly recommended. The five-day STCW course covers Firefighting, Sea Survival, First Aid and Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities.

It has come to our attention that it has not been made perfectly clear to all IYT Worldwide yachtmaster candidates that this certification is for recreational use only and may never be upgraded to a professional certificate. Therefore, we require all candidates taking a recreational IYT Worldwide Yachtmaster Coastal, Offshore or Ocean course to complete an acknowledgement prior to taking the course.

It is important to understand that an IYT certificate is a qualification that can be used across the globe. Therefore, unlike other training organisations, IYT insists on an understanding of IALA Regulations in Areas A & B, weather systems in the North & Southern hemispheres, tidal calculations for the Mediterranean and North America and the effects of tropical revolving storms.

Yachtmaster courses are not for beginners. This six-day comprehensive high-level shore based course includes assessment papers and written examinations. Candidates are advised that a considerable amount of private study and varied cruising experience is required in addition to the formal instruction provided.

IYT’s Yachtmaster Offshore Sail Certificate covers command of a sailing vessel with a sail area of greater than 80 square metres/861 square feet. Please see the official statement here .

Note: Yachtmaster Offshore is a recreational course that can be taught in any language BUT cannot be upgraded to the professional Master of Yachts certificate.

What are the minimum entry requirements to apply for the IYT Yachtmaster Offshore course?

1. 50 days on board a yacht at sea as an active crew member. A day is defined as a period of 24 consecutive hours. Parts of a day may be included in this total, but a day is not invalidated by a candidate leaving the yacht for a few hours during a cruise. The term “at sea” is defined as being on a vessel outside of any harbour – natural or artificial – in which a cruising yacht could secure or anchor for a prolonged period of time.

2. Have logged 3,000 miles in a yacht while cruising at sea (power or sail). This mileage must be logged on genuine cruises or passages but not short day trips. At least 2,000 miles must have been completed on coastal voyages and not ocean crossings. It is important that the candidate has considerable time of actual vessel handling.

3. Thirty hours on watch at night underway as an active member of a yacht’s crew. For at least six hours of this night time experience, the candidate must have been acting as the vessel’s captain/watchleader. “Night,” in this context, is defined as the time between sunset and sunrise.

4. A current medical examination and a colour blindness eyesight examination, which allows the participant to safely perform the relevant duties on a yacht, including being able to see and distinguish lights and signals of other vessels and navigational marks in typical weather conditions without risk to him/herself, other crewmembers or the safe operation of the vessel.

5. A six-hour VHF Radio Operators course covering the general rules and procedures for the safe operation of a VHF marine radio. If you do not have a valid VHF certificate this course may be conducted on board the yacht or in the classroom prior to joining the practical course.

Minimum sea time must have been met prior to the final examination.

What does the exam consist of?

Written theory examinations will occur during the course. The final examination is an oral and practical test on board a yacht. Candidates must demonstrate that they have sufficient ability to handle, dock, and anchor the boat with a required level of confidence. Candidates can expect to be examined on any subject contained within the syllabus and to be questioned on any of their yachting experience to date.

In the event that the examiner considers an examinee not to have achieved the required standards, a certificate will not be issued. In this case, a confidential report will be sent to the candidate outlining the reason or reasons for failure and suggesting remedial action that could lead to the successful completion of the course. Completion of the IYT Worldwide Yachtmaster Offshore course is not a guarantee of passing the examination and receiving your certificate.

How do I apply for enrolment?

Candidates may apply to any of the participating IYT Worldwide Partner Schools worldwide who offer this course. In order to apply for the IYT Worldwide Yachtmaster certification courses, a detailed yachting resume must be sent to your IYT training school for evaluation.

Candidates may sit the shore-based course prior to having all the above requirements.

Verification of the above yachting experience must be original and signed by the skipper of the yacht in which the candidate was sailing. Candidates claiming sea time during times when they were acting as skipper may sign their own entries but independent verification may be required and checked by IYT Worldwide.

What is required for my final Yachtmaster examination?

All of the courses and criteria must be fulfilled before a candidate may apply to take the final on-board examination.

What does the final exam consist of?

The final exam will be conducted by an IYT Worldwide Yachtmaster examiner and takes the form of an extensive oral and practical test on a yacht (either power or sail). Candidates can expect to be examined on any subject covered by the syllabus of the shore based or practical courses and to be questioned on any aspect of their yachting experience to date.

In the event that the examiner considers an examinee not to have achieved the required standards and/or the candidates ability as Captain does not reach the required standard, and/or the prerequisites have not been met for the IYT WorldwideYachtmaster Offshore, a Yachtmaster Coastal certificate may be issued in the interim. In this case, and if requested, a personal report will be sent to the candidate outlining the reason or reasons for failure and suggesting remedial action prior to re sitting the exam.

Completion of the Yachtmaster Offshore certification course is not a guarantee of passing the examination and receiving your certificate.

As you advance and become more proficient as crew or skipper you take on bigger challenges that require proper training to ensure the safety of your family and friends. The bigger the boat or length of adventure the more training you require.

De aanvraagprocedure is volledig gedigitaliseerd. In het portaal Belgische pleziervaartbrevetten vind je automatisch je beschikbare brevetten terug. Je vindt er ook al jouw resultaten van je theoretische examens en praktijktesten.

Heb je al een of meerdere brevetten? Dan zijn die meteen digitaal beschikbaar in het portaal en hoef je dus geen nieuwe aanvraag in te dienen.

Een papieren versie is daarom niet meer nodig. Wens je toch graag een papieren versie? Dan kan je je brevet ook afdrukken vanuit het portaal. Beide versies zijn geldig.

Aanvraagprocedure

Hieronder vind je alle informatie om je brevet aan te vragen.

Voorwaarden

• een   minimumleeftijd hebt van zestien jaar   (inschrijven voor het examen kan vanaf vijftien jaar)
• medisch   geschikt bent ( Medisch attest  blijft maar 3 maanden geldig)
• geslaagd   bent   voor   het   theoretisch   examen (max. 3 jaar geleden)
• geslaagd   bent   voor   het   praktijkexamen (max. 3 jaar geleden)
• in het bezit bent van een algemeen stuurbrevet

Hoe vraag ik mijn digitaal brevet aan?

Je kan je brevet gratis aanvragen als volgt:

• Je logt in via het portaal Belgische brevetten pleziervaart.
• In het portaal dien je je aanvraag in. Laadt daarbij ook je medisch attest op. Alle resultaten van je theoretische examens en praktijktesten zijn automatisch beschikbaar in het portaal.
• De FOD verwerkt je aanvraag gratis.
• Wanneer je aanvraag verwerkt is,  verschijnen je brevetten automatisch in het portaal en krijg je een bevestiging via mail.

Hoe vraag ik mijn digitale brevet aan als ik al een papieren brevet heb?

Via het portaal Belgische brevetten pleziervaart heb je snel en gratis toegang tot je Belgische brevetten. 

• Je logt in met je e-ID of Itsme.
• Onder je foto kan je via een blauwe knop  je brevet downloaden als pdf.
• Bewaar de pdf op je smartphone.

Zo heb je je brevet altijd bij de hand. Je brevet bevat een QR-code, waarmee politie en inspectiediensten de geldigheid van je brevet kunnen controleren.

Hoe vraag ik een duplicaat aan?

Je geen duplicaat meer nodig dankzij het portaal Belgische brevetten pleziervaart. 

In het portaal heb je altijd toegang tot je digitaal brevet.

Hoe kan ik mij inschrijven voor het theoretisch examen yachtman?

De inschrijving verloopt als volgt:

Klik hier om u in te schrijven met uw identiteitskaart of Itsme. Buitenlanders die geen Belgische identiteitskaart hebben sturen een mail naar [email protected] . Zij zullen dan verdere info ontvangen hoe zich in te schrijven.

Geef aan voor welk(e) examen(s) u zich wilt inschrijven en kies de plaats en het tijdstip van het examen. Bij het tabblad van de gekozen maand duurt het even voordat de nog beschikbare data verschijnen. U kunt tot twee maanden vooruit boeken. Opgelet : wij kunnen geen manuele inschrijvingen of aanpassingen doen.

De betaling gebeurt onmiddellijk online (44 euro per examengedeelte) en kan via Bancontact, bank app, Mastercard of Visa.

Na ontvangst van de betaling ontvangt u een bevestiging en een uitnodiging voor het examen. Op deze uitnodiging staat uw unieke examennummer dat u nodig hebt om aan het examen te kunnen deelnemen.

• Controleer zeker of u de uitnodigingsbrief ontvangen hebt. Als u deze niet ontvangen hebt, check dan online ( link ) of het examen open staat. Als het examen gesloten is of niet meer in het overzicht staat dient u de boeking opnieuw te doen. U kunt in de inschrijvingstool op een later tijdstip de datum en het uur van uw examen controleren via  deze link .  Opgelet :   de locatie is momenteel niet zichtbaar en kan na inschrijving ook niet meer gewijzigd worden. Bij inschrijving kunt u dus het best de gekozen plaats, datum en uur in uw agenda noteren. Op de uitnodigingsbrief staat de locatie wel aangegeven. Tot twee dagen voor het examen kunt u de datum en het uur van het examen   verplaatsen. U zal dan telkens een nieuwe uitnodigingsbrief ontvangen. Er wordt wel enkel rekening gehouden met de datum en het uur dat in uw online overzicht staat. Het secretariaat kan geen manuele inschrijvingen of aanpassingen doen.

Waar en wanneer kan ik het theoretisch examen afleggen?

Tip: De rustigere herfst- en winterperiode zijn de beste tijd om aan je theorie-examens te beginnen.

Hoe is het theoretisch examen opgebouwd?

Het theoretisch examen ‘aanvulling yachtman’ bestaat uit 35 meerkeuzevragen op computer en bevat volgende examenonderdelen:

• reglement (vijf vragen)
• navigatie (achttien vragen)
• veiligheid en manoeuvres (twaalf vragen)

Om te slagen moet u minimaal zestig procent behalen per examenonderdeel en zestig procent in totaal. Als u niet geslaagd bent, moet u de hele procedure voor het theoretisch examen (inschrijving, betaling, examen afleggen) opnieuw doorlopen.

Wanneer krijg ik mijn resultaat?

Na afloop van het examen ontvangt u dezelfde dag nog per mail uw resultaat. Als u niet geslaagd bent, moet u de hele procedure voor het theoretisch examen (inschrijving, betaling, examen afleggen) opnieuw doorlopen. Bij aanvraag van het brevet mag uw examenresultaat maximaal 3 jaar oud zijn.

Hoe kan ik mij inschrijven voor het theoretisch examen yachtnavigator?

Opgelet: U kunt een brevet Yachtnavigator pas aanvragen als u al een brevet yachtman hebt.

Als u wenst deel te nemen aan het theoretische examen Yachtnavigator vragen we u een mail te sturen naa r   [email protected]   met de vermelding INSCHRIJVING THEORIE- EXAMENS YACHTNAVIGATOR Afhankelijk van het aantal kandidaten wordt het examen 1 à 2 x/jaar georganiseerd .

Leerstof yachtnavigator

Het theoretische examen Yachtnavigator bestaat uit een schriftelijk examen met 35 vragen. Om te slagen moet u minimaal 60% behalen per examenonderdeel en 60% in totaal

Het examen bestaat uit volgende examenonderdelen:

• Navigatie  (22 vragen)
• Veiligheid en manoeuvres  (13 vragen)

Het theoretische examen wordt gesplitst over 2 dagen.

De volgorde waarin u het examen doet is van geen belang. Houd er wel rekening mee dat op het moment van aanvraag van het brevet elk examenresultaat maximaal 3 jaar oud mag zijn.

Theorie RYA Yachtmaster

Gevorderde schippers die het internationaal topbrevet RYA Yachtmaster offshore willen behalen, het summum voor iedere pleziervaarder en het instapbrevet naar commerciële schippers.

Er wordt les gegeven aan een beperkte groep deelnemers (maximim 12 personen).

Gevorderde schippers die het internationaal topbrevet RYA Yachtmaster willen behalen.

Het is absoluut wenselijk om de opleiding RYA DaySkipper reeds te hebben doorlopen. We gaan tijdens deze cursus namelijk de leerstof van de cursus Dayskipper verder uitdiepen. Deze opleiding is absoluut ongeschikt voor beginners.

Alhoewel de brevetten zoals het Belgische Yachtman of het Nederlandse TKN gelijkaardige opstapniveaus zijn aan RYA Dagschipper, merken we toch een kleiner slagingspercentage aan het einde van  de opleiding RYA Yachtmaster vanwege de vele nautische Engelstalige terminologie die gebruikt wordt.

De opleiding RYA Yachtmaster vereist een kennis van de Engelse taal. De cursus wordt volledig gegeven in het Engels, en alle bijgeleverde boek- en naslagwerken zijn tevens in het Engels.

Na het volgen van deze theoriecursus (en later ook de praktijk) zal je zonder zorgen meerdaagse tochten kunnen plannen zonder in een haven te stoppen.

Let op: Indien je het volledige certificaat Yachtmaster wil behalen, zal je ook de praktijk moeten vervolledigen.

RYA – Royal Yachting Association

Het examen voor het Engels RYA Yachtmaster brevet wordt aan het einde van de lessenreeks afgenomen door de onze school.

De RYA-brevetten zijn internationaal de meest erkende en gewaardeerde brevetten.

Vaarschool.be is een erkend RYA Training Centre en is gemachtigd om deze internationaal gereputeerde brevetten uit te reiken na het succesvol volbrengen van het schriftelijk examen.

De opleiding bestaat uit 40 uur opleiding, gevolgd door het schriftelijke examen (5 uur). Dit examen wordt ons opgelegd door de RYA en garandeert een uniforme examinering in de hele wereld. De examendatum wordt in onderling overleg afgesproken. Je doet bijgevolg examen wanneer je denkt dat je er klaar voor bent.

Na een positieve evaluatie ontvang je het certificaat RYA/MCA Coastal / Yachtmaster shorebased.

You can repeat entire lessons and excercises as often as you wish until you are confident that you fully understand each subject.

When you have completed the course you can request the final exam.

This is assessed by our RYA Instructors and detailed feedback is provided in any areas that may require further study within the course.

If you pass the final exam you will be awarded the RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Ocean Shorebased Course Certificate , which will be posted to you.

Ad ditional free resits, with suitable Instructor guidance, are available if required.

If you  are working towards your Yachtmaster Ocean Certificate of Competence, successful completion of this course exempts you from the written exam.

For most students exam invigilation is not required - see here for examples of when invigilation is required.

The Cruising Catamaran Certification Course is a four-day sailing class designed to create confident, competent catamaran sailors. You’ll spend the first day learning the fundamentals of sailing while aboard a 33-39’ monohull. This is the perfect setting to learn terminology, sail trim and boating basics. Days 2-4 have you practicing and exhibiting those new skills aboard your catamaran classroom. From start to finish, you will get the feel for truly living aboard a catamaran from provisioning and cooking to cleaning. This is the perfect course for those that have always dreamed about sailing away on a catamaran or those who want to upgrade their skills.

This course is designed to train two sets of students at a time but can be set up as a private course for an additional fee. You should bring your own bedding and towels and plan to work with the other students to provide and prepare provisioning while on board the boat. You will spend one overnight at anchor with your instructor on board. The rest of the time, you can plan on living on the boat while in the marina.

Arrival Day

Board the boat around 6 pm, meet the instructor, board the catamaran, stow gear and provisions – on your own for dinner

Day 1 8:30 am – Your instructor will meet you at your vessel – hands on instruction begins after completing paperwork with office staff. Grab gear and board your monohull training boat for the day. Learning terminology, sailing and maneuvering fundamentals.

4:30 – Arrive back in marina and dock training on boat, debrief, relax or study, dinner on your own – stay on-board the catamaran

  Day 2 8:00 am – Captain boards the catamaran for training session – quick intro to catamaran systems and practice maneuvers, sail handling, safety practices 5:00 –  Arrive back in marina and dock training on boat, debrief, relax or study, dinner on your own – stay on-board the catamaran

8:00 am – Captain boards the catamaran for training session – students implement their new skills, plotting a course for the day, learn anchoring and overnight procedures on boat – Captain stays on boat for overnight training while anchoring. Students can plan to cook and clean up as if you were bareboat chartering. Cooking aboard is part of the learning process.

8:00 am – Students sail on their own, for their practical testing back to the marina.

2:00 pm – Arrive back in marina and dock the boat. Students will clean the boat as required from all charter guests. After off-boarded, students will be awarded certificates of completion. Off-board no later than 3 pm.

The Cruising Catamaran Certification Course prepares you for catamaran cruising on your own, whether bareboat chartering (without a professional captain or crew aboard) or cruising on your own boat. You will learn not only the sailing and boat handling aspect, but how the vessel systems work, how to cook and live aboard, it is all part of the learning experience. Depending on the learning pace of all in your class (maximum four per boat per instructor unless you opt for a Private Course for two to six people), the following knowledge and skills will be learned and practiced during your live-aboard cruising course.
