MAN OF STEEL Yacht – Premier $150 M Superyacht

Measuring 86 meters, she is one of the world’s largest yachts.

Previously known as SEVEN SEAS, the name was inspired by the fact Spielberg had seven children. He owned the vessel from her delivery in 2010 through to 2021.

The interior of the MAN OF STEEL yacht includes a fully equipped gym, a spa, a beach club, a movie theatre, a beauty salon, a dance floor, and of course, a glass elevator that connects the different levels of the yacht. 

The gym is arguably one of the most impressive parts of this superyacht as it has floor-to-ceiling windows providing great views from one of the upper decks of the vessel.

This allows guests to have a beautiful view of not only the pool below but also the breathtaking scenery this yacht might pass when underway.

The private owners’ deck offers a fantastic state-of-the-art master bedroom with its own dressing room as well as an attached office or study. This suite includes its own private deck area with a sizable jacuzzi perfect for relaxing and drinking a glass of wine under starry skies. 

The six additional luxurious suites can accommodate 12 additional guests allowing the MAN OF STEEL to welcome up to 14 guests in total who are tended to by 23 crew members. The MAN OF STEEL interior was designed by Nuvolari & Lenard and Molly Isaksen and is equipped with exquisite furniture made of walnut, teak, and rosewood, accented with natural materials and fabrics.

The design of the yacht interior is simple yet classy, with clean and minimalist spaces. Wooden furnishings can be found in all parts of the vessel, although the interior is not as opulently furnished and decorated as other superyachts in its price category.

Nuvolari & Lenard is a renowned design duo that specializes in traditional yacht design for vessels between 25 and 185 meters in length. Their aim is to redefine beauty while keeping classical elements in mind.

In collaboration with the American interior designer Molly Isaksen, they created a one-of-a-kind fusion of naval architecture, incorporating contemporary and traditional elements in the interior of this beautiful vessel. The MAN OF STEEL offers a 250 square feet semi-covered sundeck, which is located adjacent to the main salon that provides enough space for larger events and celebrations aboard the vessel. A crew of 23 members of staff offers an excellent 5-star service and fulfills every possible wish of the guests onboard the MAN OF STEEL superyacht.

With excellent fine dining capabilities and luxurious amenities, this yacht is ideal for private ownership as well as high-end charter service.

Yacht specifications

The MAN OF STEEL has a length of 86 meters (282.15 ft) with a beam of 14.2 meters (46.6 ft) and a draft of 3.91 meters (13 ft)​​.

She was built by Oceana in Alblasserdam, the Netherlands using mainly steel and aluminum which is their specialty. MAN OF STEEL was completed and delivered to Steven Spielberg in 2010. The yacht has her main port in George Town, the capital of the Cayman Islands, under whose flag she sails and she has been spotted as far south as the port of Puerto Escondido . With a weight of 2.658 tons and an output of 6,984 kW (9,496 hp), the MAN OF STEEL can reach top speeds of 20 knots.

Her maximum range lies at 4,750 nautical miles, which is respectable considering her size.

Yacht exterior

Designed by Azure Naval Architects and styled by Nuvolari & Lenard, the MAN OF STEEL yacht combines exceptional craftsmanship with unique outlines. The hull of the ship is set in an elegant dark blue, while the upper decks were left in the traditional brilliant white that many yachts bear. On the aft deck, you will find an impressive infinity pool with an incredible 4.6 meter (15 ft) glass wall, which doubles as a movie screen if required. The aft has another slightly smaller pool as well as a sizable deck with comfortable seating. This deck can be used as a helipad for smaller aircraft allowing guests to arrive in style. When this area isn’t needed for landing purposes, it can be covered completely by large awnings providing additional shade to guests.

Toys and equipment

A yacht this size naturally comes with lots of toys and equipment to entertain the guests onboard.

The MAN OF STEEL carries four jet skis, several sea bobs, kayaks, paddleboards, snorkeling equipment, and much more. 

The two tenders onboard the vessel are always ready to take the guests to the mainland or to the nearest secluded beach.

Spielberg purchased them from Hodgdon Yachts, a shipyard based in Maine in the United States after MAN OF STEEL was delivered in 2010.

The larger of the two tenders, the Limo, has space for twelve people with luxurious leather upholstery, flatscreen television, and air conditioning.

When the weather is nice, the roof of the tender can be lifted and opened using hydraulics.

In 2013 MAN OF STEEL was overhauled and refitted by Amico & Co, a well-known superyacht repair and design company.

The shipyard is based in Genoa, Italy, and has a 60,000 m² dock and operating area where work on both smaller and larger vessels can be carried out.

A Summary of Motor Yacht MAN OF STEEL

Heesen Yachts completed motor yacht MAN OF STEEL in 2008. As such, she has the distinction of being built in the Netherlands. MAN OF STEEL had yacht design work finished by Heesen Yachts Design Team and Heesen Yachts Design Team. This superyacht MAN OF STEEL is able to accommodate overnight a capacity of 10 guests aboard together with around 7 crewmembers. Completed in 2008 this boat’s interior design and decor proffers the progressive thinking in the designing of Omega Architects.

Hessen has launched the 50m super yacht MAN OF STEEL, as the largest designed and built yacht in their 30 year history. Some unique features of the yacht include a her acoustic specifications with sound levels of 40 to 50 dB-A while at anchor and just 50 to 60 dB-A underway which is incredibly quite considering a normal conversation is about 65 dB-A. She also has a State of the art VT Naiad stabilization system that reduces roll underway and at anchor. The interior of this spectacular vessel features a combination of Macassar veneer with black steel accents, stone floors and an illuminated MD lobby flooring accompanied by luxurious fabrics and textures.

Building & Design relating to Luxury Yacht MAN OF STEEL

Heesen Yachts Design Team was the naval architecture company involved in the formal superyacht plans for MAN OF STEEL. Also the company Heesen Yachts Design Team successfully worked on this venture. Interior designer Omega Architects was selected for the overall interior styling. Built by Heesen Yachts this vessel was completed in the yacht producing country of the Netherlands. She was successfully launched in Oss in 2008 before being delivered to the owner. Her core hull was crafted from steel. The motor yacht superstructure is fabricated mostly from aluminium. With a beam of 9.6 m or 31.49 ft MAN OF STEEL has fairly large room. A shallow draught of 2.7m (8.85ft) affects the number of marinas she can visit, depending on their particular characteristics.

The Engineering And The Speed/Range That M/Y MAN OF STEEL :

The 8V 4000 M70 engine powering the yacht is produced by MTU. Coupled to the MAN OF STEEL engines are twin screw propellers. The main engine of the yacht generates 1550 horse power (or 1156 kilowatts). She is fitted with 2 engines. The total power for the boat is therefore 3100 HP or 2312 KW.

Man of Steel - 2008

Bigger, better, more complex

Man of Steel was Heesen’s first 50 metre steel hull displacement yacht. The owner had previously built a smaller semi-displacement yacht at Heesen and the shipyard was a clear first choice when he required something larger. Bigger, better, more complex, the new yacht moved Heesen into 50 metre construction and we were determined that our first yacht at this length would be something spectacular.

First impressions

One of the most striking features is the bridge’s reverse windshield. This not only increases visibility in wet conditions but gives the yacht a sleek, streamlined shape. The specially-designed bulbous bow creates an anti-wave for a smoother path through the water. This results in a reduction in the power required to reach a top speed of 14,5 knots. Less power requires less fuel.

Step aboard

Four distinct deck areas provide huge amounts of outside space. On the sun deck an eight-person Jacuzzi is faced by a vast quadruple sunbed, while the entire dining and bar area is shaded by the radar arch, with a large, opening sunroof providing natural light. An additional Jacuzzi is situated on the private owner’s deck.

Man of Steel yacht video

_Man of Steel _was built by Dutch shipyard Heesen Yachts in 2008 with exterior design by Omega Architects. The 50 metre steel-hulled motor yacht has an interior designed by Marc Wallace and can accommodate up to 12 guests in five cabins. Her helipad doubles as a fitness area.

To further clarify her credentials, Man of Steel has also soared, up, up and away out of her class, from the 50-meter – under 500 gross tons – to a larger tonnage of 637 gross tons, which offers Heesen a higher regulation code for future ventures. A tri-deck motoryacht, designed by Omega Architects with an interior plan by Marc Wallace, this giant leap for yacht-kind sets the stage for Heesen’s future ventures into an even larger interior volume, 5000-series. Heesen’s yards at Oss, Netherlands are well set up for this transitional ascension, just as it skyrocketed up from the previous, first Man of Steel, which orbited at 37m – 121’. (That one brazenly flourished a faux Superman Seal, sporting a “Z”)

Even as this latest incarnation boasts 164 feet of charm in her exterior view, she’s as impressive inside: an elegant flair, with dominating creative expression. While the design team leaned towards Art Deco, a definite Pop-Culture flavor is also strongly evident. Black steel is used evocatively throughout; black river-rock flooring is accented by Macassar ebony woods on bulkheads; all displaying her owner’s affection for the outdoors as well as reflecting his family’s many travels. Asian flavors with Zen nuances creep in unexpectedly, appended by silver, crystal, platinum shades; glass encasements, plus a unique treatment of hot rolled steel looming up in surprise locations. All this, a prelude to her full displacement steel hull’s outstanding cruising capabilities: featuring twin MTU 8V 400 series power plants delivering 15 Knots cruise.

Four levels of Superhero adventure await on Man of Steel's multi-tiered aft deck including an oblong pool for eight on the sundeck with an adjoining supersize sunbed; another pool on the owner's aftdeck flanked by a couch and sunlounge; and the casual main deck with seating to observe the frolicking activities of the toys hidden within the stern garage - the Man of Steel's ultimate arsenal!

And oh, yes, there’s the Marquipt Manual Helicopter pad on the foredeck, with a foldable mast. Adding spice to family fun, this area doubles as an outdoor fitness and aerobic area. High style on the rounded bow adds to Man of Steel a softened but almost formidable visage. Raised bulwarks, certain to add a good splash dampening effect running in open ocean head seas. Well tested and appreciated on her maiden voyage from the Netherlands into the Caribbean. This family is dedicated to physical fitness, so outdoor games and expression abound, on the foredeck as well as with her in-water bevy of jet skis, sports equipment and aft-deck tender mounts.

A bow close-up illustrates the family’s dedication to an outdoor life-style, over bleached teak decking. A brace of PWCs nuzzle the bottom of stairs leading forward to the bow. Centered, the deck mast which braces a retractable awning for shade when desired. Note the broad, upholstered couch overlooking the whole scene; plus safety rails all around; sure to come in handy at any time on the world’s oceans.

A super comfortable gathering place on the Fly Bridge features a strapping light oak dining/parlor game table seating up to ten for banquets outdoors. Another set of chairs face the bar, for observation over the bow. The entire area is fully covered by the hardtop arch, however a sliding roof directly over the bar permits the sun's rays to warm the area.

Forward, Man of Steel’s outdoor bar provides a magnificent view of what’s ahead. It’s fully fortified, with seating in wicker-backed, pedestal chairs. An inlaid, decorative wood pattern enlivens the leaning surface. The island features a stainless double sink and prep counter-top. Behind (well, actually forward) a fridge, cook-top and provision storage awaits.

One of two hot tubs stands ready here on the bridge deck for guests to splash into and revel in that A-a-a-a-h-h feeling. Though shaded by the top deck overhang, it’s in the open air. It’s oblong and spacious enough for a big, happy crowd.

On the owner's aft deck, yet another whirlpool awaits to sooth the aches and pains of a hard days work defending the world from doom. A super-size sun lounge is aft, in the open sun. To port, a semi-circular couch is positioned for both sun and shade.

A teak topped, open spine staircase leads down from the sundeck to the owner's deck. Straddling a decorative spire, it’s embellished by strong stainless steel railings and bi-step lighting.

A close-up of the foredeck zeros in on the pair of SeaDoo 215hp PWC's nestled under the main deck combing. Just forward, in the bottom right corner of this picture, a launching crane for hoisting the heavies. And speaking of lifting heavy objects, a pair of Staalart two-speed capstans stand ready to assist Superman in hoisting a pair of HHP Pool 360 kg hooks.

Close in on the foredeck, we see the hydraulically operated clam shell amphitheater with its super-comfortable seating arrangement, plus a trio of wickedly-warped, wicker sunning couches and optional shade umbrellas.

Astern, Man of Steel's massive garage door folds down to double as a launch ramp using an overhead Hydro-Mar Passerelle. The tender garage houses two tender tracks, sheltering a 4.8m Rescue boat with 75hp Yamaha outboard; plus another pair Sea-Doo RXT-X 255. Because the owner's family is active in watersports, the garage features a dayhead and shower to rinse off the days activities before heading atop.

Man of Steel’s well equipped wheelhouse accommodates double leather Stidd helm chairs facing a half dozen superbly lit screens, behind forward slanted windshields. State of the Art Nav systems include Furuno FAR 21375 radar, Furuno Auto-Pilot, Anchutz Nauto Pilot Gyrocompass, Magnetic Compass. Add Depth Sounders, Chart systems, Wind/Speed indicators, Radios, SATcoms, WiFi phones – with a remote station in the crew mess – plus GCM ShipsCom Computer and an Officejet. This voluble lady can talk all she wants, to anyone in the world.

Her Master Study is outfitted with a comfortable desk and office equipment as well as world wide communications gear, including a 32” DVD – Direct Satellite receiver w/remote control, to keep the businessman up to date, well informed, no matter where this Superman leaps off to.

Elegantly designed, sporting a warm, modern aspect, the Owner’s Master suite is a full size apartment, glass enclosed, with a bed that rotates, offering views that survey 240 degrees. Its balcony contains a private spa and its own sundeck. The stateroom focuses on its king-size berth, which faces a 46” Direct Satellite TV; DVD, Kaleidescape player w/ remote control. Glittering curtains shimmy in spacey, light-reflecting folds, illuminating glamorous statuary.

Bathed in soft, recessed light above, the Master berth is encompassed by a large circular theme, echoing lights and darks in striated wood patterns on walls and ottomans. The effect is contemporary, but still exudes warmth.

Her Master Bath is, again, a study in minimalist modernism, flowing with stark whites against inlaid black tile patterns, ultra modern in concept and execution. Here, the huge shower, refracting through clear glass against walls of tile, presents an artistic array of modern design.

Entering the main salon, this long view pictures the elongated, L-shaped bar with its bleached marble, backlit surface and minimalist, wrought-iron leather chairs. Its location just off the main aft deck keeps thru-hull traffic to a minimum and easily becomes an eating/snack venue for informal lunches.
