"A" MOTOR YACHT  MODEL  

The superyacht A is an unconventional vessel. So unique that the $300 million yacht became the most talk-about object on the seas. Since her completion in mid-2008 by  Blohm + Voss, motor yacht A has spawned a flotilla of copycats emulating her low-slung hull and design scheme. A sight unseen, at top speed, she hardly produces any wake .  

Motor yacht A gets a tip of the hat for taking a risk and being different. She was featured in the 2011 edition of The Superyachts , where she was described as "bold and eccentric." Jonathan Beckett, chief executive of London yacht brokers Burgess, express his feeling after seeing the yacht in person in the Caribbean: "I was impressed. It's a very exciting boat to watch. It's simply unlike anything that's ever been done before." David Pelly of Boat International was enamored, saying she was "the most extraordinary yacht launched in recent memory."

From the outside, superyacht A is not trying to show wealth and power. She was designed to be in harmony with the sea and nature. But for those who know, yacht A is unrestrained opulent. The sophisticated transom door in the rear, which can open to become a beach club alone cost $25 million to build! And bath knobs cost $40,000 apiece!

Superyacht A is decorated and equipped to an extremely opulent standard. The interior covers a massive 24,000 square feet of space. It takes a staff of 35 to keep it all running. The master suite alone is 2,500 square feet. To give that perspective, the average square footage of an apartment in New York City is 866 square feet. The master suite has a large bed sits on a giant platter that rotates with the press of a button. Another set of buttons rotates the bed itself. The combination of the two rotating objects give limitless angles for watching the sunset or sunrise. There are 7 guest cabins which have moving walls and can be converted to four larger staterooms. Starck, known for his occasionally risqué design choices, also added a secret room hidden behind mirrored panels. Mirrored surfaces feature extensively throughout the interior, along with Baccarat crystal which is used not only for the glassware and tableware, but for the furniture too. There’s a hidden cabinet in the living room area that opens up to reveal a massive bar that is nearly all crystal, mirrors and glass. Where mirrors aren’t being used you can find animal skins. One guest room has walls made entirely from white stingray leather. There’s even a custom designed chair somewhere made from alligator hide and kudu horns.

Above-deck there is a helipad and swimming pool. The aft pool is glass-bottomed and can be viewed from the below-deck disco. Motor yacht A's two main landing 36' boats are mini-yachts themselves, boasting plush interiors and costing more than $1 million each.  

Y acht A is highly secure. Her rounded exterior and knife-like hull make it difficult for intruders to board. Her 2,583-square-foot master suite has bomb-proof 44-milimeter glass.
