TWENTY-TWO YEARS OF

5-Star Reviews!

5 star review

From the moment of initial contact with Captain Yiannis, everything was seamless.

Our experience has been nothing short of exceptional.

From the moment of initial contact with Captain Yiannis, everything was seamless. This company and the entire team could not have been more helpful! We live in the USA and never had a problem with communication. The Catamaran we selected was the Lagoon 450F. It was beautiful, spacious, clean, and easy to live on for a week as we sailed to beautiful beaches.

The Ionian Islands we visited were breathtaking, especially Kefalonia – it was our favorite! Above all, the feeling of safety that Captain George ensured throughout our trip made our journey even more memorable. We can’t wait to experience it again.

So, if you’re looking for an unforgettable sailing experience around the Greek Islands with a professional company and a knowledgeable and friendly guide, look no further!

The Great Greek Adventure

We have seen many islands thanks to Yannis, who has an unsurpassed knowledge of the, and we might add amazing docking skills! Matoula has been an amazing hostess, a wonderful cook and always gracious with a beautiful attitude. We will never forget our Great Adventure!

A safe pair of hands, experience and unlimited knowledge.

We’ve just spent a week sailing the Greek islands with Captain Yiannis. If your looking for a safe pair of hands, experience and unlimited knowledge of the Greek islands then Yiannis is the captain you need.

Jeff Brown May 10th 2019

Great knowledge of the area and its history.

Excellent week of sailing in the Greek Islands with Yiannis. He has great knowledge of the area and its history. He showed us unique beaches and key sites on the islands. A memorable week of adventure, drama, and weather. A great first visit to the country of Greece and its islands. Recommend Yiannis as a skipper and guide for your trip.

David and Suzanne Kelly September 25, 2021

The kids enjoyed jumping off the boat and even steering.

We made it back safely and happily to Paros today. Yianni showed us secluded beaches, surprising chortas and agreed to take us to santorini even though he hates sailing there! The kids enjoyed jumping off the boat and even steering it on occasion. It’s a beautiful part of the world and we’d definitely recommend exploring it.

Christine August 22, 2021

Yannis is a superb captain

First and foremost, Yannis is a superb captain. He is a true professional and puts the comfort and safety of the guests first. We had a superb week and thanks to the knowledge of Yannis we visited hidden beaches and places that were sublime. Yannis is passionate about sailing, and we all improved our sailing skills and learned about sailing this magical part of the world.

We cannot wait to return and know that Captain Yannis is our go-to Greek master of the seas.”

Kim Cornwall and friends October 14, 2021

The best tavernas for dining and the most interesting places to visit.

My friends and I had a terrific sailing trip with Cpt. Yiannis. We sailed islands from Athens to Milos for a week. [...] Captain Yiannis was not only an outstanding skipper, but he also is a very knowledgeable tour guide. [...] Also, he had tremendous knowledge of any island we stopped on the way and recommended the best tavernas for dining and the most interesting places to visit.

The captain was very professional and sailed extremely safe and responsible. Great guy, a great captain, thank you, Captain Yiannis!

Remis – Boston, USA June 26, 2021

Yannis gave us the ideal family yacht

We had a wonderful week of sailing in the Saronic Gulf end of August. Yannis gave us the ideal family yacht for this bareboat charter trip . Together with the charter company we felt us in very good hands, for all questions we had. Except in this year 2020, with these special conditions!

Thanks Yiannis.

Our Skippered Charters in Greece

For those without a valid certificate for bareboat sailing or just want to relax a little bit more on your sailing holiday - our skippered yacht charters are made for you!

Skippered charters as the name implies means the yacht rental comes with an authorised skipper who will handle the main tasks of sailing the boat, navigating the islands and mooring when visiting islands.

Our skippers are highly trained, know the Greek islands like the back of their hands and are friendly and easygoing. With our skippers, you are guaranteed an amazing sailing holiday in Greece!

Skippered_1.jpg

Istion maintains a wide range of sailing yachts, sailing catamarans and motor yachts up to 60 feet available for rent to any island chain in Greece.

Skippered Charters - Frequently Asked Questions

Skippered charters are required for charter groups who have no qualified sailors in their party and are recommended for those who do not have enough experience to feel confident handling a yacht themselves. In such cases, we are happy to suggest the right yacht type and provide an experienced skipper who will handle the yacht for you.

Our skippers are a friendly lot who know the best spots to visit and the best routes to take to ensure you have a simply amazing sailing holiday in Greece! The exact route and islands you visit are completely up to you. All skippered charters start with a briefing between you and your skipper to agree on the best itinerary based on your interests.

The skipper is responsible for the navigation of the yacht, mooring, anchoring and manoeuvring and for keeping the deck and cockpit of the yacht in good, clean and fully functional condition, also for managing the refilling of water and fuel of the yacht and of the outboard engine and for processing port formalities, all on Charterer’s expense.

The hostess shall do the daily shopping and prepare and serve each day breakfast and a light meal (lunch or dinner). In addition, the hostess will assist the skipper in all of his/her duties under his/her instructions and shall take care of cleaning of communal areas of the yacht daily.

The crew (skipper and/or hostess) will have his/her own cabin and share a WC. In the case of a catamaran, crew will sleep in one of the bow cabins.

That all depends on you! Istion's experts are always happy to recommend the best choice for your needs. Our skippered charters typically use larger boats including both sailing yachts and catamarans. Catamarans are a favourite choice for many skippered charters due to their comfortable and spacious layout and smooth handling while sailing. Your sailing holiday can be tailored to fit your party and your preferences. We have a wide selection of yachts suitable for smaller and larger groups, simply contact us for our recommendations based on how many people will be in your party.

Please note that regardless of the yacht’s size, the number of passengers allowed must not exceed 12. A pleasure craft in Greece that carries more than 12 people is considered a ‘passenger ship’ and must comply with different safety regulations which are not compatible with bareboat charters.

Our skippered charters are usually offered Saturday to Saturday. Depending on the yacht’s booking plan however, there may be a chance we could accommodate other embarking/disembarking dates, so feel free to ask!

Our skippered charters start on Saturday at 17:00. In some cases a fast track process is available for an additional fee. If it is available, fast tracking allows you to check in at 14:00. If you wish to start your charter earlier than 17:00 please notify us so we can advise on availability.

Charters end on Saturday at 0:900 (disembarkation from the boat). You will need to be back at your designated finishing base by Friday at 18:00.

The key for sailing charters is simplicity and a minimum of unneeded extras. Casual and breezy beach attire is certainly the order of the day on deck, though for evenings ashore, slacks or a sundress are more appropriate. Rubber soled shoes as opposed to hard soles are recommended aboard our yachts, so bring boat shoes or tennis shoes. For cool or windy evenings, a windbreaker comes in handy and depending on the time of year you are sailing a long sleeved shirt or two just in case you feel chilly is a good idea.

Above all, protection from the sun is vital – lots of suntan lotion, wide-brimmed hats or sailing caps, and loose-fitting cotton cover-ups. Don't forget to pack it all in soft-shell baggage for easy onboard storage.

During check-in, you will meet our base team (and of course your skipper!) who will conduct the yacht familiarisation briefing and join you in thoroughly inspecting the yacht so as to have an overview on all the yacht's systems and safety equipment on board.

Check-out is similar in the sense that here too our base staff will inspect the yacht and you will sign the handover papers. This is also a good time for you to share your feedback and any comments you may have regarding the yacht & your overall sailing experience.

Kindly be advised that all our yachts are comprehensively insured against damage to the hull, machinery and/or equipment including third party cover, beyond a deductible excess figure, which is boat’s security deposit.

The security deposit is a refundable deposit used to cover the insurance deductible of any ONE insurable event (damage or loss). This means that should an incident occur, in order to be covered against a 2nd incident, the charterer must replenish the security deposit to the initial amount.

The value of the security deposit varies depending on the size of the yacht or catamaran you are renting. If no insurable event occurs during your sailing holiday, the deposit is returned.

The security deposit covers damage per insurable event that will be covered by the amount of the refundable figure (i.e. EUR 3000 for a Lagoon 42) even if the cost for the damage is higher.

The only possibility of exceeding the refundable figure is with the loss or damage of the auxiliary equipment of the vessel, such as damage or loss of the outboard motor or dinghy. For such, you (the client) would need to cover the cost of the reparation and/or replacement of the auxiliary equipment in full.

For skippered charters, If the damage is caused by the skipper, then the skipper is responsible, on the other hand you (the customer) are responsible for your actions and any damage caused by your actions onboard.

Yes! When chartering with Istion Yachting we offer the option to reduce the boat’s security deposit by choosing the security reduction which consists of two figures (amounts depend on yacht’s size as per our Bareboat Price List). SECURITY REDUCTION (NON-REFUNDABLE & REFUNDABLE FIGURES)

Security Deposit reduction: • Yachts up to 44 ft: €300/week plus refundable security deposit €500 • Yachts from 45 ft and up to 50 ft: €350/week plus refundable security deposit €600 • Yachts from 51 ft up to 54 ft: €400/week plus refundable deposit €700 • Yachts from 55 ft: €500/week plus refundable deposit €1.000 • All catamarans up to 41 ft: €400/week plus refundable deposit €700 • All catamarans from 42 ft and up to 45 ft: €500/week plus refundable deposit €800 • All catamarans from 46 ft: €600/week plus refundable deposit €1.000

The security deposit reduction is mandatory in case of a skippered charter. For all skippered charters: €350 plus refundable security deposit €700. Not available for regattas & races.

skippered yacht greek islands

With a skipper to take responsibility for the yacht, you are free to enjoy a care-free sailing holiday or to participate in sailing the yacht, just as you choose.

Skippered yacht charters are designed to assist those with little or no sailing experience to sail without the responsibility of being in charge. We will provide a skipper to sail and be responsible for your yacht, with you assisting and learning from them.

Alternatively, for the seasoned yachtsman who is short of able or willing crew, we can assist your yacht charter with you acting as skipper, but with us providing you a ready pair of crew hands to help you with the sailing.

The option of a Skippered Charter is also often used by experienced yachtsmen wishing to explore a new sailing ground by taking full advantage of the skipper’s local knowledge, both maritime or historical and his familiarity with local tavernas and bars will certainly be to your advantage!

The skipper’s responsibility is your and the boat’s safety; his priority is to skipper the yacht and make your holiday as enjoyable as possible. You would therefore typically provide the skipper’s meals, whether you eat together or not, although you may also hire a hostess to help you prepare food and drinks and clean if you wish.

With Assisted bareboat charter one of our skippers is there to help you with the sailing and as a guide to the area. You have full command of the yacht and are responsible for it and the crew.

N.B. On Skippered Charter, unlike other charter companies, we do not require a security deposit.

Pricing for our skippered & assisted bareboat yacht charter sailing holidays can be found in Tables 1 & 4 on the ‘ ’ page with multi-week & early booking discounts explained in Table 2. Also check our page.

Experience sailing vacation with a captain

Practical information on our skippered charters.

Let me just point out some of the main characteristics of a skippered charter in Greece . Your yacht will be waiting in our home port, in Athens (Alimos marina) and will be ready for departure at your signal. For those of you that are visiting Greece for the first time we provide the ability to have a daily city tour in the city of Athens and visit the Acropolis and many other interesting sightseeing which have brought Athens in the first place of the global ranking in terms of historical interest. You captain will be on standby to serve you in the best possible way and sail you to the most efficient locations in accordance to the weather.

All of our skippers are licensed and fully trained to provide, professional and high standard services to all of our guests. Most of the times the skipper acts as a guide not only for the sailing part but also in the Greek islands. He will be heading you to choices known only to locals rather than the most touristic ones usually found in the front window of the islands. In most cases all of our guests invite our captains to share stories, moments and experiences together, while having dinner in various traditional tavernas. Meet our skippers in our separate detailed page with our crew profile information along with photos and comments.

In most of the cases our guests select to have onboard one of our hostesses. A hostess can prepare breakfast and dinner according to your taste preferences while she could be helping you in keeping the boat clean and in order. A hostess is also a great help if you are having young children onboard and you like to spend some time of free moments. She would be sharing some of the time to keep the kids occupied while you will be having a swim and enjoying your free time.

Most of our departures take place on Saturdays and operate on a weekly basis. This means practically that you can sail on Saturday and you will be returning on Friday afternoon, spending the time onboard having a cocktail or visiting the city center ( check here how to explore athens sightseeing ) while the next Saturday morning you would have to disembark (if we are talking for a one week cruise).

People wonder if a week is enough.. Well this depends on two main principles:

a) Where you plan to go and what you have in mind in exploring: To my opinion when you are on sailing vacation you need to consider various factors to have the best sailing experience. One would be to take under consideration how much would you like to sail per day. And when I mean you, I am talking about all of the crew. Many times women and children are less experienced and would not prefer to sail more than 2 hours per day-at least the first days of their vacation. This is something you need to take under consideration in order to prepare a successful route. The second would be the weather. You need to understand that the best vacation is a combination of weather and location. The most beautiful bay combined with an unpleasant weather does not add up to the best result. RELAX! That is the strong advantage when sailing from Athens. That is, you have the possibility, according to the weather, to plan a route that will be compatible with the nature conditions at the time of your arrival. In case of very strong winds you can sail in the marvelous Saronic gulf that is always calm and fully protected, while your skipper will take you to calm and isolated bays. On the other hand if you enjoy sailing you have the possibility to sail to the Cyclades and visit this complex of islands among which are, Mykonos, Paros and Santorini. If you are planning to visit Santorini, I would suggest that you would need a two week sailing skippered charter since you will need to cover a lot of miles for a one week trip.

b) The number of islands you want to explore: Again, my idea is that you are on vacation! Greece has approximately 2500 islands. There is no way that you will be visiting all the islands in just a single trip. Our suggestion is to enjoy the moment and spend as much time as you feel like it in every place. There is no harm done if you are having a great time in Milos, to leave ‘because the program says so’.. This is why a skippered charter in Greece is the ultimate vacation option. You have the freedom to sail, to stay anchored, to swim or to do as you please depending on your desire. Therefore, seize the moment and look around you. This is what vacation is all about! To lose the track of time and enjoy pure emotions and heartbeats.

Normally in a weekly sailing cruise you should be visiting aprox 6 islands during your trip. For some of you this is not sufficient, however this depends on the time that you have available for vacation. It is logical that the more time you have available the more islands you could explore. Moreover the weekly sailing charter is perfect for those of you visiting Greece for 10 days where you can still have some time to visit Athens and the suburbs nearby. For us the ideal length of a skippered sailing cruise in the Greek islands is a period of 2 weeks. This is simply because you may have more options in terms of more islands to visit-more than 12, flexibility according to the weather, availability to relax in an island for more than 1 day and many others. If you are one of the lucky ones who will get the chance to have 3 weeks available for their vacation then we can guarantee you will losing the track of time and you will have a great experience to remember.

As mentioned previously the key concept of our private skippered charters is that we will spend time with you to choose exactly the itinerary that matches to your expectations. It is not just a fixed route to follow with predefined stops. Of course we know the ‘must see’ locations and we will put them on the table during our sail planning, but one thing is certain. You will experience the island hopping ( click to see how to do island hopping in Greece ), a lot of swimming and diving in different bays and crystal waters will yacht will provide you with all the amenities of a hotel. Furthermore during your island hopping you will have the chance to discover why each of the Greek islands, is unique. Most of you may be familiar with Mykonos and Santorini but trust our word, there are equally beautiful islands such as the famous ones, such as Kythnos, Serifos, Sifnos, Milos, Paros, Antiparos, Kimolos and many others. Each with unique history and places to visit as well as different cuisine recipes.

According to the above we will determine the best route for your preferences and will be sailing to the first island shortly. A good tip is to have a shopping list, which we offer as a free service, this way you will be having all of your shopping onboard when you arrive and you will save energy not waiting in the lines of the local supermarkets.

In addition you have the possibility to ask for some of our optional extras. Among those you will find internet connection to have onboard during your trip, stand up paddles for those of you that are more active or you wish to keep your younger kids occupied, two-seated canoes that we guarantee that will cause a lot of laughter and action or underwater cameras to capture your adventurous moments.

Once you set sail, this is it. You are on sailing vacation. Your captain will be glad, for those of you that want to acquire some knowledge, to show the basics around sailing and navigating. This is mainly interesting for children but for adults as well that would like slowly to get familiar with what sailing is all about. Moreover in just about couple of hours you will be relaxing in the middle of a beautiful bay making plans on where to have dinner or walk in the little white stripped alleys throughout the islands.

Since we mentioned dinner, with a skippered sailing cruise you have the choice whether to have lunch or dinner onboard or in every island you may reach. In the islands there are the typical local restaurants called ‘tavernas’ where you will taste traditional food ( check this article for greek food you are going to taste in greek islands - videos included ) based on local ingredients and cooked with different recipes in each island. Each location is famous for a specific ingredient and product while there are famous recipes for different islands. A tavern is not a must if you are looking for something super fancy but we highly recommend trying this type of restaurant during your trip. Most of them are placed right beside the sea so you will most probably tasting the delicious meals while the little waves will be passing by next to you. The other choice is to cook onboard-your yacht is equipped with a fully functional galley which operates with gas and has 2-3 burners available plus an oven with a grill. If you have a hostess onboard then most probably in the morning you will decide what type of ingredients you would prefer for the day’s dinner and she would prepare everything to be ready for the day. In the islands there are super markets with super fresh material so we are quite certain that you will be more than happy with the result.

All of the above consist a super-premium vacation type. The type that you would probably pay a fortune to have as a result. But still, the skippered charter we offer in Greece is the most affordable vacation type someone could ask for . The value you will be getting for your money is incomparable to any other vacation type. If you compare the price of a skippered charter to a typical stay in one local hotel for a week you will notice that there is a huge difference to the service and experience you will be getting compared to the amount you will be paying. Moreover, you need to appreciate there is no other vacation that would allow you to wake up and dive into the most immaculate clear blue waters in just seconds.

For those of you wondering how easy it is to book a skippered charter in Greece with Yachtsailing.gr we answer at once. VERY EASY! Just select the dates (you will find at the top bar on your browser) you will be visiting, let us know the number of guests on board, add the skipper and that’s it. Your sailing dream has just started. We encourage you to contact us via email in case you would like some clarifications and suggestion on possible questions you may have. Sailing holidays on a yacht rental is not just for sailors. It is for everyone seeking something more than the sea, the sun, and a sunbed. We provide professionally trained skippers for those who wish to rent a yacht and enjoy relaxing sailing holidays in Greece or those who wish to get involved and learn the ropes and the sails during a skippered yacht charter in Greece. After all, learning how to sail is easy. Depending on crew eagerness, our skipper will not only show how to navigate but will also provide firsthand knowledge of the Greek island destinations.

Skippered yacht charter in Greece - Sailing Heaven

  • need more experience and more confidence to take a yacht rental on their own
  • want to get familiar with the Greek waters (first time to Greece)
  • need a hand because no other in their crew may provide sufficient help
  • need a guide to be with them and show the best coves and secluded bays for moorage and/or swimming, as well as the best places in seaside villages to eat and drink
  • want to relax and enjoy leaving the helm and sails in the hands of someone who can be trusted

Our skippers are hospitable, friendly, discrete and knowledgeable about every destination and you will discuss together your preferences and plan your route. Choosing a skippered yacht charter, you also hire the skipper who will take care of the yacht for you and will ensure that you get the most out of your sailing holidays in Greece. When you select from our yachts for rent, keep in mind that you have to provide a cabin or berth in cabin for your skipper as he is obliged to sleep on board. Apart from the skipper’s fee, you have to also provide his meals either from the meals you prepare on board or at an eating place ashore. The skipper’s fee, regardless of the season and the people on board, is €140 to €190 depending on the yacht rental. You may wish to hire also a cook/hostess. The fee per day is generally 10 euro less than the skipper’s and you need to provide berth and meals as for the skipper. The running expenses for a skippered yacht charter are just like those of a bareboat charter (fuel, gas, water, meals, port/marina fees, etc.), plus the costs for the hired crew as above. Although some of our yacht rentals are offered only skippered (yacht charter prices include skipper’s fee), you may choose any of our bareboat charter yachts fitting your needs and let us know if you wish to have a skipper (select the check-box on the form of the yacht rental booking request).

Yacht Charter Greece – The Aegean Yachting offers a wide range of sailing yachts, motor yachts, and catamarans in some of the most beautiful destinations in Greece .  A brand of Nikolas Yachting Ltd. , Aegean Yachting provides affordable yacht charters in Greece and the Greek islands . You can explore the Greek islands with a sailing or motor yacht, bare-boat or with a skipper for the vacation of a lifetime. The Greek peninsula is at the far south east of Europe is made up of the mainland (Attica, Peloponnese, Central Greece, Thessaly, Epirus, Macedonia and Thrace) and the islands in the Aegean and Ionian Seas. The area has a population of about 10 million.

Athens , the capital and largest city of Greece: The name of Greece’s capital derives from the name of the Goddess of wisdom and intelligence, Athena. This unique city is where democracy first saw the light of day, and where the Parthenon, the gem of architecture, was built.

Yacht charter bases in Greece – Greek islands:

Greece has an extremely large number of islands – 6,000-odd islands and islets scattered in the Aegean and Ionian Seas, of which only 227 islands are inhabited. Most of the islands are found in the Aegean Sea and are divided into many groups:

Sporades Islands: Pine-clad, picturesque, and hilly islands with some of Greece’s most beautiful beaches — Alonnisos , Skiathos , Skopelos , and Skyros .

Dodecanese Islands  ( Yacht Charter in Dodecanese, Greece ) – This group of islands has some of the most cosmopolitan and tranquil of the Greek Islands – 15 larger and about 150 smaller Greek islands — Astypalaia , Agathonisi , Alimia, Arkoi, Chalki, Farmakonisi, Gyali, Kalymnos , Karpathos , Kasos , Kastellorizo , Kinaros, Kos , Lipsi , Leipsoi, Leros , Levitha, Marathos, Nisyros , Nimos , Patmos , Pserimos , Rhodes , Symi , Saria, Strongyli, Syrna, Telendos , and Tilos .

Cyclades Islands  (Yacht Charter in Cyclades, Greece), situated in the heart of Aegean Sea, Cyclades is one of the most popular yacht charter destination in Greece.

This group of islands is made up of 56 islands of various sizes, with the most important being Amorgos, Anafi, Andros, Antiparos, Delos, Ios, Kea, Kimolos, Kythnos, Milos, Mykonos, Naxos, Paros, Santorini, Serifos, Sikinos, Sifnos, Syros, Tinos, Folegandros, as well as the “Minor Cyclades” comprising Donousa, Irakleia, Koufonisia and Schinousa.

Saronic Islands  also known as  Gulf of Aegina   (Yacht Charter in Saronic Gulf, Greece), easily accessible from Athens or Poros, excellent for bareboat yacht charters or flotillas alike.

This area is also ideal for beginners with steady predictable afternoon breezes – the islands of Aegina/Aegena, Salamina/Salamis, Poros, Patroklos, Fleves, Angistri,  Methana, Spetses, and Hydra.

Ionian Islands  ( Yacht Charter in Ionian, Greece )  – The Ionian Sea is an ideal yacht charter destination and somewhat more peaceful than the Aegean.

The lush green beauty of the Ionian Islands offer gentle sailing from bases in Corfu and Lefkas makes this a family friendly yacht charter area in Greece – lying just off the West coast of Greece, Ionian islands resemble a necklace, and include Paxos and Antipaxos, Corfu, Levkas, Kefalonia, Ithaca and Zakinthos.

Evia  (Yacht Charter in Evia, Greece) – The prefecture of Evia (which also includes the island of Skiros), is next to the prefecture of Viotia on the east and on the south touches the Aegean Sea, on the north and northwest to the Pagasitiko and Maliako Gulf, while on the west and southwest with the north and south Evian Gulf.

The Northeastern Aegean Islands  (Yacht Charter in Northeastern Aegean, Greece)  – Agios Efstratios, Thasos, Ikaria, Lesbos, Limnos, Inouses, Samos, Samothrace, Chios, Psara.

Crete    – an authentic Greek Island with a metropolitan twist: Yacht charter in Crete is a wonderful experience, offering the ultimate escape. Located at the southernmost tip of Greece, Crete is the largest island of Greece and divided in to 4 prefectures.

From west to east: Chania, Rethymno, Heraklion and Lasithi.

A offers you the possibility to create your own agenda around the 170 inhabited islands of Greece (Cyclades archipelago and Saronic islands) and (why not) other 3000 un-inhabited.

If all the above sound appealing to you - in order to book youryacht holiday.

How much does a yacht charter costs

The prices below are the charter rates for the whole yacht (per sailboat - NOT per person). In order to obtain the charter rates per person for a sailing holiday, you simply divide the the rates listed below to the number of persons in your party.

For example a group of 6 interested in a 7 day trip in June - season B - will pay 5470 euro per boat thus 5470 euro / 6 persons = only 911 euro per person for a 7 days yacht charter in Greece.

Incredible value for money - cheaper than any other holiday option and an absolute superior experience to the typical "ferry to an island / stay in a hotel" alternative.

The above packs will make it super easy to plan and budget for your sailing vacation. No hidden costs and a flat rate for the extra expenses associated with hiring a boat.

We offer our guests the advantage to pay a flat rate prior to setting sail, and that’s it!

After surfing the web and looking at different options for your sailing vacation, you might have noticed most yacht rental are structured similarly with renting a car. The charter rate covers the price for hiring the yacht itself (just like the car rental price covers the car itself).

And all the other aspects/costs involved are on you to cover as you go. For a car that would be things like gas, toll rates. With similar structure, when you are budgeting for your sailing holidays, you will have add on top of the charter rate, the other expenses involved as they appear. The trouble with this approach is that for a yacht the total/ final price the extras add up to varies several factors. Which makes it difficult for the traveler to figure out the total price he will end up paying (an aspect that will naturally might make him worried or anxious).

For example while the rate applied for skipper services is pretty much standard for all companies (200 - 260 euro/day), all the others extra can range according to many factors. How much fuel you are going to use depends on how long the engine will be running - more specifically on the distance to your favorite destination and weather condition. "But won't we be sailing most of the time-why are we discussing fuel?' you might be wondering. Please read below the paragraph marked with **

So we are taking a different approach. In order to avoid the hassle of having an expense account open , we have grouped everything in the : "All costs included" combo of 350 euro/day to include the expenses associated with chartering the sailing yacht (skipper, fuel, final cleaning, etc) that will guarantee worry free vacations. You won't have to keep an expense account open. You simply pay a one-time flat rate - divided in between the members in your group prior to setting sail, and that’s it! Much easier to plan and budget for! No hidden costs, no surprise at the end of the trip.

** How much will we be sailing /motoring? Well...it all depends on the wind conditions and the distance to the next destination. So let's take for example a sail from Mykonos to the port of Paroikia in Paros that is 28 nautical miles apart (a good average).

  • In favorable weather conditions a sailboat is perfectly capable of reaching a destination powered only by sails. With a good wind speed (10-12 knots or more) a sailboat would be a moving with a regular speed around 7 miles/hour. Thus, assuming a proper breeze, you would be covering the 28 nautical miles distance in about 4 hours.
  • But when winds are very mild or from an un-proper direction, the speed a sailboat can reach just on sail power can drop significantly - even as low as 2-3 miles/hour. As a result, if you try to save fuel and move just on sails, you would be covering the same distance in 9-10 hours (no time left for swimming or exploring the island you are heading to). This is when the engine is one's best friend! Is helping to go up to the regular speed of 7 knots so you reach the destination you wish, the day you wish in a reasonable time. This is an especially important aspect for many of our guests as soon as they realize a regular day on board is divided in several parts (the 3-5 hours travel time to the next destination, the 1-3 hours stop for a swim, the late afternoon/evening for exploring the islands you reach, on-shore activities, exploring the villages and dinner).
  • With a 4 hours travel there's time to mix all these in a single day.

charter rate :

Prices in Euro (€) per DAY 1350 1150 950
10% discount for couples or party of 2 persons

Depending on each situation, a one-way fee applies in order to cover the cost of the boat travelling from the base/regular embarkation point to the pick up point of your choice (fuel + rate for the day/s when it cannot be chartered as it will be traveling to the island you prefer to embark at).

Thus the one way fee depends on the distance to the destination chosen and can vary from 800 euro to 1450 euro.

Some places are great for swimming (like Milos, Polyegos), others for nightlife and incredible sandy beaches (like Mykonos, Paros, Ios), other for architecture (like Santorini, Syros), and other for hiking (like Naxos, Sifnos) and so on. Basically in a 1-2 week sailing holiday with skipper to the Greek islands, each day will feel like a full vacation thanks to the mix of so many activities:

the clear blue waters and sail the Cyclades (starting from Paros ). : enjoy the cosmopolitan atmosphere and the vivid nightlife, have late dinners at traditional family owned restaurants by the seaside with the best possible view, sip a delicious cocktail at on the dozens of bars in the harbor and why not?...party till dawn at one of the clubs in the islands. . - walk and explore the old mule tracks, admire Byzantine churches ancient settlements, discover the unique fauna & and flora (the Cyclades islands have 1400 species from which 83 are endemic), the breathtaking landscapes, hike and conquer the peaks of the mountains for an unforgettable view of the Aegean Sea. On board you will find hiking maps .

Each island, the little ports and villages have a variety of restaurants, traditional taverns and bars just within a few meters from the boat, opened till after midnight, all priced very reasonably. Enjoying local cuisine and islands' specialties at a waterfront tavern while admiring an astonishing scenery is something you'll want to experience over and over again.

Our sailboats are equipped with a cooker ( with oven and 3 burners), fridge and full galley equipment, so you can also cook on board if you prefer. Provisioning is very easy - most islands have grocery stores/markets within a couple of minutes walk where you can stock up the boat with your favorite food/drinks

This all depends on your plans and what you'd like to experience but especially on how much time you have available in Greece - the more days you have on board the more islands you will be able to explore.

Each day you will be visiting a new island (and you will be surprised at how different each of them is from its neighboring island). Thus the more days you have on board, the more varied and flexible the itinerary will be and the more you will experience.

As a general idea during a 7 day yacht charter you would have the chance to visit up to 6 islands whereas during a 2 week trip we usually visit up to 13 islands and so on.

In order to fully enjoy on our skippered boat the magic while sailing the Cyclades islands, a 2 week sailing holidays would be ideal (3 weeks it's even better since there are 24 islands in the archipelago). However one week on board is a great idea for people with a short holiday and in Greece for only 7-10 days. And the new base we have set at Paros (right in the heart of the Cyclades) it's now possible to fit in a 7 day trip even islands that are too far away for a regular Athens-islands-Athens trip; like Santorini, Minor Cyclades or maybe even Amorgos just to name a few.

Your Sailing Area

Saronic islands, greece.

With easy access from the mainland airport of Athens, Zorba will set the sails and head straight for the Saronic Islands as you spend the next week under sail, discovering all that the islands have to offer. Your route will entirely depend on the wind and weather and also the feeling of all the guests onboard.

As well as a plethora of uninhabited islands that make for great remote escapes off the beaten track and away from the tourist hustle and bustle; the islands also consist of the inhabited main islands of Aegina, Agistri and Poros. The islands of Hydra and Dokos are also sometimes included in this archipelago.

From afternoon anchorages on remote islands perfectly lined with crystal coves for swimming and snorkelling to the very best, tried and tested tavernas on the main islands, there won’t be time to see it all and you’ll be longing to return before you’ve even stepped foot off the boat.

Greek Island Highlights

Each island certainly has its own personality and although all of them showcase the very best of Greek hospitality, they cater for all ages and interests. The UNESCO heritage site of the ancient theatre in Epidavros is a bucket list visit for many and one that we highly recommend. Whilst on this coast, the sunken city of Epidavros is also worth a snorkel. Onto the island of Aegina and the architectural wonders of the ancient city of Temple of Aphaia impressively built on the hill – also known as Pistachio Island. The Saronic showpiece has to be Hydra with its ancient port carefully lined with well-preserved stone houses rising from a chic, history-charged harbour. Known as t he jewel of the Saronic’s Hydra has no car traffic so donkeys are the best way to get around!

The Temple of Poseidon sits on the southerly point of mainland Greece and is definitely worth the sail over as it sits towering over the anchorage with the impressive view. The small fishing village of Perdika is where you can find the nicest people in the world and our secret harbour (with one family-run taverna and no shop) that can fit only 7 boats!

Zorba Greece

All voyages for Zorba

Guest berths: 9 Rig: Sloop

Zorba lives up to her name as she takes guests on unforgettable, authentically Greek sailing holidays!

Zorba is a modern and comfortable Beneteau Cyclades 50.5. She has four private double cabins for guests, all share 3 bathrooms with showers. For 2024 voyages she has a twin cabin too. With a generous saloon and a well-equipped galley, Zorba was built with charter and guest comfort at the forefront of her design. With a dropped transom and outdoor seating area at the stern, Zorba gives guests the perfect access to that crystal-clear Mediterranean water!

A sailing holiday in Greece with Zorba is accessible to all ages and abilities. Her simple rig makes her an easy sail with winch systems and modern navigation equipment. That being said, she’s a great boat to sail, whether you’re an experienced sailor looking for some sunshine or a novice wanting to try something new.

Her owners and skippers absolutely love what they do and that’s very evident for guests to see and even better to experience first hand. They are well tuned to all abilities and ages, from family charters with young children to groups of friends or voyages for couples and solo travellers. They tailor every trip to suit their guests needs so if you simply want to sit back, enjoy the Mediterranean sunshine and enjoy the cuisine of the local tavernas – that’s fine too!

A sailing holiday on Zorba is certainly one that will leave you with long-lasting memories. Read more about what to expect from Life on Board Zorba here.

Zorba Deck plan

Sailing with Zorba in Greece is one that will leave long-lasting memories and will more than likely see you longing to return. A modern Beneteau Cyclades 50.5, Zorba is owned and managed by couple Aga and Greg who share a real passion for Greece both from the water and on the land. Comfortable, relaxed and offering an abundance of sunshine sailing, Zorba is the perfect monohull sailing yacht to show guests a truly authentic sailing holiday in Greece.

A typical Day

After a relaxed breakfast, spend a few hours sailing before anchoring up in crystal clear waters to explore historical ruins ashore, sunbathe or snorkel away the afternoon. Hoist the sails again to find a new spot for the night before enjoying dinner ashore in a traditional Greek Taverna, specially hand-picked by your hosts.

Getting involved

Your sailing holiday in Greece is truly as you make it. Zorba is a fun and simple boat to sail and can be sailed by the skipper alone if guests prefer a more relaxing experience. That being said, the larger Saronic Gulf gives some great winds for sailing for those wanting to learn the ropes in a safe and supported environment. The skipper has many years of experience sailing here, so he loves to share his knowledge and skills with guests. From knot tying to basic navigation, taking the helm and reading the local charts, guests are welcome to get involved as much or as little as they’d like.

Read more about what to expect from a typical day on the water with Zorba and what to expect from life onboard.

Zorba transom guests swimming

The price also reflects the half-board nature of this holiday, as explained in Zorba’s life on board section. Breakfast and lunch are included, but you will dine out in traditional tavernas for your evening meals. This is at the cost of the guest, but you’ll find a delicious local spread for as little as 15€ per person – including the wine! There is also a board cash payable upon arrival that covers fuel, marina fees and water per person. This is reflected in the ticket price advertised and is based purely on the economics of Greece, which is still such a cash-based society.

Greece Zorba Swimming

Zorba’s local skipper and crew prefer to show guests the quieter side of the Saronic Islands anchoring in small harbours or next to deserted islands with only resident goats and birds to entertain. Each day, they ensure an opportunity to swim in beautiful bays – some of them completely wild, others with just one small taverna, serving fresh fish and seafood, often caught before your very eyes! Interested guests can also offer the possibility of jogging or yoga in the morning, with organic food on board and a healthy lifestyle as their first port of call.

Zorba has limited space for possessions, so please be considerate and travel as light as possible. There is no storage for rigid cases, so please bring your items in a soft bag or rucksack.

We recommend a travelling light principal with lots of lightweight, easy-drying layers. Below is a list of recommended items, these are not mandatory and those that have sailed before may have their own preferences!

  • Light shoes/trainers (with good grip)
  • Flip flips, sandals OR Crocs
  • Swimsuits and a swim towel
  • Wash towel – micro fibres are great for lightweight and quick-drying
  • Lightweight, quick-dry clothes

It can be quite a few degrees colder out at sea so please bring layers even if the forecast seems like a warm week!

  • Warm, windproof and waterproof coat
  • Sun cream (please use reef safe, eco products where possible)
  • Sunglasses and a sun hat/cap
  • Small personal first aid kit and any medication you may need
  • Camera/binoculars
  • Personal wash kit (please use reef safe, eco products where possible)
  • Swim shoes to ensure you dodge those pesky Greek sea urchins…!
  • Cash – EUROS. Greece is still a heavily cash-based society
  • Charging cables for personal devices and EU 2pin adaptor for use in cabins (there are 12v USB sockets to charge devices during the day by the chart table if needed)
  • A good book to read!
  • Consider a small backpack/bag for onshore exploring

SAMPLE MENU FOR Zorba

Please note that this is an example of what you may be served. Aga will be your host and main chef although guests tend to get involved with all aspects of life on board Zorba. Aga will go shopping on the first day and welcomes guests to join her so everyone’s preferences can be considered.

  • Selection of tea, freshly ground coffee and fruit juices
  • Fruits with nuts, oats, coconut with fresh Greek yoghurt, honey and eggs.
  • Typical Greek salad with fresh feta; tzatziki with bread; local goat cheese and figs

Evening meals are more often than not from a very considered list of favourite Greek tavernas. Local cuisine, fresh fish and seafood can be purchased at a relatively low local cost..

Yes, all cabins have 220v EU sockets and USB ports.

Zorba is sometimes at anchor so you'll need to be comfortable climbing in and out of the tender dinghy. She has a dropped transom with steps and swim ladder so getting on/off the boat is fairly easy. When she's docked, there's a simple gangplank.

From: Aegina

To see where the ports are, along with your likely sailing area, please view the sail area & highlights.

GETTING THERE

Aegina, saronic islands, greece.

Flights go direct to Athens International Airport from London Standsted with Ryanair, and London Gatwick with Wizz Air, British Airways and easyJet. You’ll then need to take a taxi from the airport to Piraeus port and take a ferry to Aegina port, which takes about 40 minutes to 1 hour.

and then by Ferry…

There are many different ferry options which run throughout the day, please use Ferry Scanner t o find timetables. We recommend guests to pre-book tickets ( this will still require picking up a physical ticket from the kiosk on the front ) as peak times can be busy.

( The Flying Dolphin and/or Hellenic offer a faster transfer than the larger Blue Star Ferry . )

Zorba’s crew can assist you in arranging an airport/hotel transfer to take you to the Pireaus (this is not included in the ticket price but they have a good local contact) Please contact Aga the week before your voyage if you need this service.

Depending on berth availability, Zorba Cat will either be in Aegina port (a 2-minute walk from the ferry) or Perdika (just along the coast). If the boat is in Perdika, Aga will arrange for a taxi (€15pp) to pick you up at Aegina port and take you to Perdika.

  • A Guide To Sailing In...

A Guide to Sailing in the Dodecanese Islands, Greece

The ancient ruins of the Lindos Acropolis form a must-see historical site on the island of Rhodes

Sprinkled across the southeastern Aegean, the Dodecanese – whose name means 12 islands – is best known for big-name destinations like Rhodes and Kos. Yet, there are plenty of small, remote isles that render the region a bottomless treasure chest of surprises for sailors. Expect burnished landscapes, secluded anchorages, old-school Greek island life and warm hospitality that together appeal to adventurers with a love for history and culture.

Cruise around the Greek Islands in style with Culture Trip’s Sailing Trips.

What to see and do

It’s easy to conjure images of knights on horses clip-clopping through the cobblestoned streets of Rhodes’ Unesco-listed Old Town. In Europe’s oldest continuously inhabited medieval settlement, pay a visit to the Palace of the Grand Master, Archaeological Museum of Rhodes, the Church of Our Lady of the Castle and the Decorative Arts Collection with a single (affordable) ticket.

Renowned for its sponge-diving history, Kalymnos is today considered a rock-climbing hub that combines the thrill of scaling a craggy cliff face with views of a glistening Aegean below. There are more than 3,400 limestone routes to choose from, catering to both newbie and experienced climbers.

The caves of Kalymnos is home to some of the best climbing in Greece

On deeply spiritual Patmos, you’ll find the Cave of the Apocalypse, where St John the Divine purportedly received visions from Christ and penned the Book of Revelation. The Monastery of St John the Theologian, founded in 1088 by a Byzantine monk, hosts invaluable Orthodox documents and icons.

Best mooring locations

One of the south Aegean’s most impressive marinas is found on Kos. The municipal-owned facility (VHF channel 77; +30 22420 44150) has 265 berths for vessels up to 80m (262ft), a 12-minute walk from the island’s capital, along with restrooms, showers, a supermarket, café-bar, restaurant and marine supply stores.

Palionisos Bay, on Kalymnos island’s northeastern coast, is a laid-back, isolated anchorage offering good shelter from northerly and westerly winds. Mooring buoys, owned by the two tavernas on the bay, can be reserved in advance (+30 6948 945936 / +30 6948 607612). They’re free, so repay the courtesy with lunch or dinner.

Where to eat and drink

Pirate attacks across the Dodecanese between the 12th and early 16th centuries forced inhabitants to resettle in hilly interiors, where they developed farming skills, rather than relying on the sea for their sustenance.

On Karpathos, local handcrafted pasta makarounes is served with sautéed onions and myzithra cheese. Moukounies, a classic dish from Nisyros, involves pieces of pork cooked in its own fat and flavoured with wild oregano.

In the whitewashed seaside town of Lindos on Rhodes, low-key Mavrikos restaurant melds tradition with experimentation in ingeniously simple dishes like black butter beans with carob honey.

Mavrikos is among the finest eateries in Lindos

Astypalea is worth visiting if only to dine at Astropelos, where the seafood is the star of the menu. Try the local oysters if available, as well as lobster pasta and fish chargrilled whole.

Where to get groceries

If you’re departing from Rhodes’ new marina, stock up on baked goods and other essentials at ABC supermarket in the marina complex. At Kos marina, Kostas supermarket offers a provisioning service. Elsewhere, seek out fresh local cheeses, fish, fruit and vegetables at farmers’ markets and shop for meat at local butchers in main towns.

Key annual sailing events

Greece’s most popular sailing race, the week-long Aegean Regatta , is held annually in mid-August. Every second year, the event takes place in the south Aegean, with enthusiastic sport and performance-class yacht crews navigating race legs between large islands like Rhodes and around small isles, such as Lipsi, with rest days allowing exploration of each destination.

The Aegean Regatta is a major event in the Greek sailing calendar

Climate and weather

The Dodecanese’s southerly location means it has Greece’s warmest weather but also forceful winds in summer. Days are hot and sunny from May through September and, often, well into October. The Aegean’s prevailing summer wind – the meltemi – blows from the northwest in the north of the region and from the west in the south. It can be quite powerful between July and September, reaching Force 7 at times, therefore the area is best suited to sailors with intermediate experience, or skippered boats.

Boats moored off Pedi, a picturesque village on Symi island in the Dodecanese

How to get there

Rhodes and Kos are well connected to a host of cities, including London, Stuttgart, Tel Aviv and Moscow, with daily direct flights to the islands’ international airports in the summer. Alternatively, fly into Athens and take a domestic flight to your final destination. Taxi transfers to Rhodes or Kos marina, from their respective airports, take about 30 minutes.
