Your Sailing AreaSaronic islands, greece. With easy access from the mainland airport of Athens, Zorba will set the sails and head straight for the Saronic Islands as you spend the next week under sail, discovering all that the islands have to offer. Your route will entirely depend on the wind and weather and also the feeling of all the guests onboard. As well as a plethora of uninhabited islands that make for great remote escapes off the beaten track and away from the tourist hustle and bustle; the islands also consist of the inhabited main islands of Aegina, Agistri and Poros. The islands of Hydra and Dokos are also sometimes included in this archipelago. From afternoon anchorages on remote islands perfectly lined with crystal coves for swimming and snorkelling to the very best, tried and tested tavernas on the main islands, there won’t be time to see it all and you’ll be longing to return before you’ve even stepped foot off the boat. Greek Island HighlightsEach island certainly has its own personality and although all of them showcase the very best of Greek hospitality, they cater for all ages and interests. The UNESCO heritage site of the ancient theatre in Epidavros is a bucket list visit for many and one that we highly recommend. Whilst on this coast, the sunken city of Epidavros is also worth a snorkel. Onto the island of Aegina and the architectural wonders of the ancient city of Temple of Aphaia impressively built on the hill – also known as Pistachio Island. The Saronic showpiece has to be Hydra with its ancient port carefully lined with well-preserved stone houses rising from a chic, history-charged harbour. Known as t he jewel of the Saronic’s Hydra has no car traffic so donkeys are the best way to get around! The Temple of Poseidon sits on the southerly point of mainland Greece and is definitely worth the sail over as it sits towering over the anchorage with the impressive view. The small fishing village of Perdika is where you can find the nicest people in the world and our secret harbour (with one family-run taverna and no shop) that can fit only 7 boats! All voyages for ZorbaGuest berths: 9 Rig: Sloop Zorba lives up to her name as she takes guests on unforgettable, authentically Greek sailing holidays! Zorba is a modern and comfortable Beneteau Cyclades 50.5. She has four private double cabins for guests, all share 3 bathrooms with showers. For 2024 voyages she has a twin cabin too. With a generous saloon and a well-equipped galley, Zorba was built with charter and guest comfort at the forefront of her design. With a dropped transom and outdoor seating area at the stern, Zorba gives guests the perfect access to that crystal-clear Mediterranean water! A sailing holiday in Greece with Zorba is accessible to all ages and abilities. Her simple rig makes her an easy sail with winch systems and modern navigation equipment. That being said, she’s a great boat to sail, whether you’re an experienced sailor looking for some sunshine or a novice wanting to try something new. Her owners and skippers absolutely love what they do and that’s very evident for guests to see and even better to experience first hand. They are well tuned to all abilities and ages, from family charters with young children to groups of friends or voyages for couples and solo travellers. They tailor every trip to suit their guests needs so if you simply want to sit back, enjoy the Mediterranean sunshine and enjoy the cuisine of the local tavernas – that’s fine too! A sailing holiday on Zorba is certainly one that will leave you with long-lasting memories. Read more about what to expect from Life on Board Zorba here. Sailing with Zorba in Greece is one that will leave long-lasting memories and will more than likely see you longing to return. A modern Beneteau Cyclades 50.5, Zorba is owned and managed by couple Aga and Greg who share a real passion for Greece both from the water and on the land. Comfortable, relaxed and offering an abundance of sunshine sailing, Zorba is the perfect monohull sailing yacht to show guests a truly authentic sailing holiday in Greece. A typical DayAfter a relaxed breakfast, spend a few hours sailing before anchoring up in crystal clear waters to explore historical ruins ashore, sunbathe or snorkel away the afternoon. Hoist the sails again to find a new spot for the night before enjoying dinner ashore in a traditional Greek Taverna, specially hand-picked by your hosts. Getting involvedYour sailing holiday in Greece is truly as you make it. Zorba is a fun and simple boat to sail and can be sailed by the skipper alone if guests prefer a more relaxing experience. That being said, the larger Saronic Gulf gives some great winds for sailing for those wanting to learn the ropes in a safe and supported environment. The skipper has many years of experience sailing here, so he loves to share his knowledge and skills with guests. From knot tying to basic navigation, taking the helm and reading the local charts, guests are welcome to get involved as much or as little as they’d like. Read more about what to expect from a typical day on the water with Zorba and what to expect from life onboard. The price also reflects the half-board nature of this holiday, as explained in Zorba’s life on board section. Breakfast and lunch are included, but you will dine out in traditional tavernas for your evening meals. This is at the cost of the guest, but you’ll find a delicious local spread for as little as 15€ per person – including the wine! There is also a board cash payable upon arrival that covers fuel, marina fees and water per person. This is reflected in the ticket price advertised and is based purely on the economics of Greece, which is still such a cash-based society. Zorba’s local skipper and crew prefer to show guests the quieter side of the Saronic Islands anchoring in small harbours or next to deserted islands with only resident goats and birds to entertain. Each day, they ensure an opportunity to swim in beautiful bays – some of them completely wild, others with just one small taverna, serving fresh fish and seafood, often caught before your very eyes! Interested guests can also offer the possibility of jogging or yoga in the morning, with organic food on board and a healthy lifestyle as their first port of call. Zorba has limited space for possessions, so please be considerate and travel as light as possible. There is no storage for rigid cases, so please bring your items in a soft bag or rucksack. We recommend a travelling light principal with lots of lightweight, easy-drying layers. Below is a list of recommended items, these are not mandatory and those that have sailed before may have their own preferences! - Light shoes/trainers (with good grip)
- Flip flips, sandals OR Crocs
- Swimsuits and a swim towel
- Wash towel – micro fibres are great for lightweight and quick-drying
- Lightweight, quick-dry clothes
It can be quite a few degrees colder out at sea so please bring layers even if the forecast seems like a warm week! - Warm, windproof and waterproof coat
- Sun cream (please use reef safe, eco products where possible)
- Sunglasses and a sun hat/cap
- Small personal first aid kit and any medication you may need
- Camera/binoculars
- Personal wash kit (please use reef safe, eco products where possible)
- Swim shoes to ensure you dodge those pesky Greek sea urchins…!
- Cash – EUROS. Greece is still a heavily cash-based society
- Charging cables for personal devices and EU 2pin adaptor for use in cabins (there are 12v USB sockets to charge devices during the day by the chart table if needed)
- A good book to read!
- Consider a small backpack/bag for onshore exploring

Zorba is sometimes at anchor so you'll need to be comfortable climbing in and out of the tender dinghy. She has a dropped transom with steps and swim ladder so getting on/off the boat is fairly easy. When she's docked, there's a simple gangplank. No, absolutely not! Just a lust for adventure. There are fishing lines and some snorkel gear. Everyone reacts differently but we recommend if you are at all worried to take some medication 24 hours before departure. Please check with the office for under 5's for normal voyages. There is no limit for private charters but we recommend that children can swim. There is no maximum age limit as long as guests are fit and mobile. Travel PlanningFrom: Aegina To see where the ports are, along with your likely sailing area, please view the sail area & highlights. GETTING THEREAegina, saronic islands, greece. Flights go direct to Athens International Airport from London Standsted with Ryanair, and London Gatwick with Wizz Air, British Airways and easyJet. You’ll then need to take a taxi from the airport to Piraeus port and take a ferry to Aegina port, which takes about 40 minutes to 1 hour. and then by Ferry…There are many different ferry options which run throughout the day, please use Ferry Scanner t o find timetables. We recommend guests to pre-book tickets ( this will still require picking up a physical ticket from the kiosk on the front ) as peak times can be busy. ( The Flying Dolphin and/or Hellenic offer a faster transfer than the larger Blue Star Ferry . ) Zorba’s crew can assist you in arranging an airport/hotel transfer to take you to the Pireaus (this is not included in the ticket price but they have a good local contact) Please contact Aga the week before your voyage if you need this service. Depending on berth availability, Zorba Cat will either be in Aegina port (a 2-minute walk from the ferry) or Perdika (just along the coast). If the boat is in Perdika, Aga will arrange for a taxi (€15pp) to pick you up at Aegina port and take you to Perdika. Guest ReviewsMore holidays in greece or the mediterranean. A Guide to Sailing in the Dodecanese Islands, GreeceSprinkled across the southeastern Aegean, the Dodecanese – whose name means 12 islands – is best known for big-name destinations like Rhodes and Kos. Yet, there are plenty of small, remote isles that render the region a bottomless treasure chest of surprises for sailors. Expect burnished landscapes, secluded anchorages, old-school Greek island life and warm hospitality that together appeal to adventurers with a love for history and culture.Cruise around the Greek Islands in style with Culture Trip’s Sailing Trips. What to see and doIt’s easy to conjure images of knights on horses clip-clopping through the cobblestoned streets of Rhodes’ Unesco-listed Old Town. In Europe’s oldest continuously inhabited medieval settlement, pay a visit to the Palace of the Grand Master, Archaeological Museum of Rhodes, the Church of Our Lady of the Castle and the Decorative Arts Collection with a single (affordable) ticket. Renowned for its sponge-diving history, Kalymnos is today considered a rock-climbing hub that combines the thrill of scaling a craggy cliff face with views of a glistening Aegean below. There are more than 3,400 limestone routes to choose from, catering to both newbie and experienced climbers. On deeply spiritual Patmos, you’ll find the Cave of the Apocalypse, where St John the Divine purportedly received visions from Christ and penned the Book of Revelation. The Monastery of St John the Theologian, founded in 1088 by a Byzantine monk, hosts invaluable Orthodox documents and icons. Best mooring locationsOne of the south Aegean’s most impressive marinas is found on Kos. The municipal-owned facility (VHF channel 77; +30 22420 44150) has 265 berths for vessels up to 80m (262ft), a 12-minute walk from the island’s capital, along with restrooms, showers, a supermarket, café-bar, restaurant and marine supply stores. Palionisos Bay, on Kalymnos island’s northeastern coast, is a laid-back, isolated anchorage offering good shelter from northerly and westerly winds. Mooring buoys, owned by the two tavernas on the bay, can be reserved in advance (+30 6948 945936 / +30 6948 607612). They’re free, so repay the courtesy with lunch or dinner. Become a Culture Tripper!Sign up to our newsletter to save up to $1,058 on our unique trips.. See privacy policy . Where to eat and drinkPirate attacks across the Dodecanese between the 12th and early 16th centuries forced inhabitants to resettle in hilly interiors, where they developed farming skills, rather than relying on the sea for their sustenance. On Karpathos, local handcrafted pasta makarounes is served with sautéed onions and myzithra cheese. Moukounies, a classic dish from Nisyros, involves pieces of pork cooked in its own fat and flavoured with wild oregano. In the whitewashed seaside town of Lindos on Rhodes, low-key Mavrikos restaurant melds tradition with experimentation in ingeniously simple dishes like black butter beans with carob honey. Astypalea is worth visiting if only to dine at Astropelos, where the seafood is the star of the menu. Try the local oysters if available, as well as lobster pasta and fish chargrilled whole. Where to get groceriesIf you’re departing from Rhodes’ new marina, stock up on baked goods and other essentials at ABC supermarket in the marina complex. At Kos marina, Kostas supermarket offers a provisioning service. Elsewhere, seek out fresh local cheeses, fish, fruit and vegetables at farmers’ markets and shop for meat at local butchers in main towns. Key annual sailing eventsGreece’s most popular sailing race, the week-long Aegean Regatta , is held annually in mid-August. Every second year, the event takes place in the south Aegean, with enthusiastic sport and performance-class yacht crews navigating race legs between large islands like Rhodes and around small isles, such as Lipsi, with rest days allowing exploration of each destination. Climate and weatherThe Dodecanese’s southerly location means it has Greece’s warmest weather but also forceful winds in summer. Days are hot and sunny from May through September and, often, well into October. The Aegean’s prevailing summer wind – the meltemi – blows from the northwest in the north of the region and from the west in the south. It can be quite powerful between July and September, reaching Force 7 at times, therefore the area is best suited to sailors with intermediate experience, or skippered boats. How to get thereRhodes and Kos are well connected to a host of cities, including London, Stuttgart, Tel Aviv and Moscow, with daily direct flights to the islands’ international airports in the summer. Alternatively, fly into Athens and take a domestic flight to your final destination. Taxi transfers to Rhodes or Kos marina, from their respective airports, take about 30 minutes.
