It does look like a fun boat. Nice lines. Will require a bit of water to float.
Jackdaw said: The Vic18 is a great little boat. VERY easy to solo sail. There is like 10 of them on Lake Harriet in Minneapolis. I used to keep a First 235 there, and when I was out my V18 friends would try and catch me. Come to think of it, I should have let Nancy (in the sailor cap) succeed! Click to expand

Brian, I was trying to keep her close! ;^) The V18 is a cute boat. But is also has a VERY short waterline and the 235 just runs away. From it. Anyway Nancy is a good friend and a local artist here in town. I go to her exhibitions regularly.
Brian S said: Oh, and to the original poster, I know of a V-18 at our lake, and I've seen her out on windier days than most people at our lake will sail. She's green, with tanbark sails. Lovely traditional salty look to her. If I stumbled across one at a good price... well... I can't have ALL THE BOATS, but I'd want it! Click to expand
I'm biting my tongue, but the straight lines in those two posts are just screaming for it!

Is the Victoria the one which has cocpit floor drains up forward in the cockpit floor with the drains cris crossing one another underneath the cockpit floor to the thru hull drains.
RussC said: I was bored and began reading up on information available online for the V18, when I came across an article that I found interesting in regards to speed. the boat is 18.5' long, but only 12.83 at the water line, apparently accounting for periodic complaints of being slow. The author points out that due to the design of the hull, LWL increases greatly when healed over, yet many new owners/sailors feel uncomfortable allowing the boat to heal over enough when looking for speed. The factory literature even states that best performance is gained when sailed at 18* of heel, as the boat then shows 17' of waterline. The factory also states that in higher winds you can let it go as far as "25* angle of heel and sails tremendously at that point". . 46% of the hull weight is keel (550 lb), so there should be little fear of capsizing. I understand the hype with sales literature, but nevertheless, I can see a grain of truth in all of this. What say ye @Jackdaw ? Click to expand

RussC said: Does it have a cutter sail setup ???? Apparently there was only a half dozen of those ever built, only one original cutter survivor, and it's a dark green hull with tanbark sails. the other 600 or so Vic 18s built were all sloop rigged Click to expand

Some of the well known ones are Rod Carr Sails, Blackmagick (sold by Great Basin Model Yachts), MPI, and Bob Sterne Sails. Great Basin has a nice rig kit for the Victoria. Unless you have a local Victoria fleet you want to race with, I would not recommend changing over to an aftermarket sail/rig setup. It costs as much as the original kit did.

The Victoria Model Yacht is a popular radio-controlled racing sailboat that has earned a reputation for being a well-designed and reliable vessel. This miniature 1/10th scale replica of the 19th-century America's Cup yacht is a beloved collectible, and an ideal choice for sailing enthusiasts, hobbyists, and those new to the sport.
The Victoria One Design is a simple, affordable, ARF sailboat manufactured by the Thunder Tiger Model Company, and distributed world wide. The kit's low cost (about $150 for the kit, perhaps $400 - $500 nicely outfitted), ease of assembly, and good sailing characteristics make it a great first yacht, while remaining fun to sail and race for old hands as well.
Big Boats Rule! If 150 oz-in (11 kg-cm) of torque works in a Vic, these digital servos are super cheap and worth a try. The 270 degree sweep versions will give about 135 degrees sweep with a non modified traditional signal (1000-2000ms), or about 160 degrees if you can use 120% endpoint settings.

I've been looking for a few weeks now for a boat under $3,000 with a trailer and have come across a Pearson Triton 18 and a McVay Victoria 18. I am looking for advice based on the ideal boat for outlined below. The Pearson in particular has been difficult to find information on, I can really only ever find reviews on the larger Triton's.
traits. The Victoria can also be transported in almost any vehicle without removing the mast and sails. Sailboats smaller than the Victoria do not sail nearly as well. The Okanagan Model Sailboat Association has concentrated on the very affordable "Victoria" sailboat kit that is manufactured in Taiwan by a large company called Thunder Tiger.

We have about 5 active Vic/IOM sailors in the area, with 3 ranked top ten. Houston area also has a small number of sailors, but 3 in the top ten. Large numbers don't necessarily equate to "the best"! That being said, 80 Vic sailors is impressive!
