Below Deck Season 1: Where Are The Cast Members Now?

of Below Deck Season 1: Where Are The Cast Members Now?

Sailing through the oceanic blues, Bravo’s ‘Below Deck’ chronicles the lives of crew members aboard a mega yacht as they reside and work on the vessel during the charter season. The reality television show was launched in 2013 and has juxtaposed the thrill of sailing with the drama of its crew. As the Chief Stew, Captain, Deckhands, and Chef try to navigate the interpersonal conflicts of their workplace, several chaotic themes follow. Years since the debut season came on air, fans have been curious to find out the whereabouts of the original cast members. So, if you also want to know the whereabouts of the reality stars, look no further because we’ve got all the answers right here!

Lee Rosbach is Navigating Life Beyond Reality TV

At 73, Captain Lee Rosbach has led his crew on sails for more than three decades. The television personality was once a Wendy’s manager. His first encounter with the ocean came in his mid-30s when he and his wife, Mary Anne, moved to Turks & Caicos to run a restaurant. At 35, Lee obtained his Captain’s license and has since never looked back. Commonly referred to as the “Stud of the Sea,” he has been in the business for more than four decades. However, after leading his crew for ten seasons, Captain Lee bid his final farewell to the Bravo reality show.

During season 10 of ‘Below Deck,’ fans witnessed Lee’s worsening health conditions, leading to him temporarily sitting out. The reality TV star has been facing mobility issues that have led to high pain levels. Ultimately, the network didn’t invite the boat captain back for season 11. Many have speculated that Lee’s exit from the show came after he conflicted with Captain Sandy Yawn in season 10. Yet, these rumors stand unconfirmed. Nevertheless, Lee Rosbach has now teamed up with Kate Chastain, hosting Bravo’s new series, ‘Couch Talk with Captain Lee and Kate.’

The revered Captain and former chief stew break down the biggest Bravo TV moments of the week on their new show. On the personal front, Lee continues to enjoy life with his family and loved ones. After losing his son , Joshua, at 42, to an opioid addiction in 2019, he has become extensively vocal about rehabilitation for people struggling with addiction. Despite sustaining such an incredible loss, the family continues to honor Joshua’s memory through donations and giving testimony in front of Congress.

Aleks Taldykin is Leading in Yacht Management

Originally picked up by the production house to enact the role of Captain on the yacht, Aleks was ultimately replaced by Captain Lee Rosbach after the yacht owner expressed his discomfort with him taking over the reins. Eventually, he became the Captain’s next-in-command but didn’t return to the series after season 1.

Since his exit from the show, Aleks has maintained his love for the ocean and is currently the CEO of Elite Yacht Management, a company servicing yachts from the Pacific to the Atlantic. He is also a Yacht Broker specializing in selling large motor yachts in California. In 2016, Aleks had also appeared on ‘Vanderpump Rules.’ At 33, the television personality enjoys life with his wife and family.

Ben Robinson is Engaging in Culinary Ventures and Content Creation

With several credentials, including an apprenticeship at Chef Heston Blumenthal’s restaurant, The Fat Duck, Ben brought his intersectional knowledge of restaurant and catering to ‘ Below Deck .’ However, the reality TV star ultimately left the show after season 2. Ben later appeared on ‘Below Deck: Mediterranean’ and ‘Below Deck: Galley Talk.’ Surprisingly, the certified health coach was briefly speculated to be the father of Chief Stew Kate Chastain’s baby. However, both have time and again denounced trolls for such rumors.

On the personal front, the 42-year-old is engaged to Kiara Cabral. After nearly four years of dating, the television personality went down on his knee at the Vatican to profess his love. When Ben isn’t enjoying his time with friends and family, he’s engaged in several other commitments. Furthermore, he is a TikTok and Cameo creator who sells his personal merchandise brand and offers several services through online channels.

Adrienne Gang is Expanding Her Culinary Expertise

Despite her short-lived stint on ‘Below Deck,’ Adrienne quickly became a fan-favorite for dealing with a difficult crew. The 39-year-old Chief Stew has found herself busy with other endeavors. Apart from freelancing as a stew on different boats, she has also returned to her job as a Chef. Before taking up the role in reality television, Adrienne had been a professional chef for eight years.

The television personality is now working at the Culinary Vegetable Institute and Chef’s Garden, honing her skills and expanding her work portfolio. On the family front, Adrienne is married to Chiropractor Dr. Andrew Banks. The couple tied the knot in 2018 in a beachfront ceremony and have enjoyed marital bliss ever since. Sadly, they faced a substantial loss in 2021 after they miscarried their baby. Nevertheless, Adrienne and Andrew remain unfazed by these struggles and enjoy their life with their dog, Buddy. In addition, she hosts the ‘Gangplant Report’ podcast.

C.J. LeBeau is Actively Working in Marketing

Disembarking from the yacht just before the crew could take its final charter, C.J. Beau quickly became disinterested in the activities onboard and eventually left the boat behind. Since then, he has not reappeared in the series and has maintained a profile outside the media. Shortly after the season ended, C.J. was taken into police custody in Phoenix, Arizona, for allegedly getting in a physical altercation with his then-fiance.

The television personality was reportedly charged with intentional assault and defacing property. It was also reported that C.J. allegedly broke his fiance’s cell phone during the fight. Later, he became the Sales Director for Direct Source Distributing, a marketing company based in San Diego. On the personal front, C.J. has maintained privacy and doesn’t disclose his private information.

Kat Held is Pursuing Nursing and Bartending

Despite repeatedly knocking heads with the Chief Stew, Kat quickly became a fan-favorite for her famous phrases. However, she ended up leaving the show after season 2. Since then, Kat has been pursuing different opportunities. The 39-year-old worked as a waitress before eventually returning to nursing school in 2017. Kat also worked as a Bartender in Las Vegas and currently likes to keep her personal and professional details under wraps. Moreover, the television personality attended ‘Watch What Happens Live’ with her ‘Below Deck’ costars in 2020.

Samantha Orme is Building a New Life and Career

While Samantha’s time was full of ups and downs on the yacht, the television personality decided she wanted more in life and not just work at a mega yacht. Shortly after exiting the show, she met Bradley Ulmer, a Coast Guard Helicopter Pilot, and the two hit it off. The couple decided to tie the knot a few months into dating.

Subsequently, the duo welcomed their daughters, Blake and Molly. On the professional front, 36-year-old Samantha has accrued equal success. The television personality was the Vice President of a Solar Energy Firm before she returned to study Industrial Engineering. She is currently working as the Enterprise Program Manager for Fidelity National Information Services.

Eddie Lucas is Commanding the Harbor

After appearing as the Deckhand in season 1, Eddie ultimately became a Bosun and the First Officer on the Bravo series. Yet, after eight seasons, he decided to leave the franchise entirely. Eddie is now the Captain of a harbor tug boat in the Baltimore Harbor. The homeowner had revealed in an interview with The New York Post that he gets paid the lowest amount compared to other shows on Bravo.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Eddie Lucas (@eddielucas)

It is also speculated that Eddie’s arguments with Rayna Lindsey over alleged homophobic comments could have been the reason for his departure from the show. Nevertheless, these speculations have not been entertained by the television personality. Instead, the 38-year-old has left behind the reality television life and now focuses on chartering to the Caribbean and experiencing the best of the ocean life with his dog named Bert, as well as friends and loved ones.

David Bradberry is Pursuing Acting Opportunities

Sailing through the season without any conflict, David’s endearing demeanor won countless viewers during the show. Regardless, the reality TV star ultimately left the series following his appearance in season 1. Since then, David has explored a path in entertainment and starred in works like, ‘Confessions,’ ‘The Last Straight Man,’ ‘Fiendish Things,’ and ‘The Men Next Door.’ On the personal front, the 37-year-old is no longer with his boyfriend featured in ‘Below Deck.’ The television personality has since kept his dating life under wraps and loves to maintain a private profile.

The Untold Truth Of Below Deck Sailing Yacht

Below Deck Sailing Yacht cast

Bravo TV 's second season of the reality show Below Deck Sailing Yacht debuted on March 1, and fans are already rabid to dive back into the world of chartered sea vessels. The series follows the highs and lows of a crew who sail charter boats in Croatia's Ionoian Sea.

The show is part of a series of spin-offs based on Below Deck , which has proven to be massively successful for the network. After 23 seasons, it's no surprise that two spin-offs were born: Mediterranean and Sailing Yacht . As Joshua Ocampo of Men's Health explains, people love all three shows because "the series has exposed the underbelly of [the] ultra-luxurious yachting industry."

Season two of Sailing Yacht features a lot of new names, including Daisy Kelliher , Dani Soares, Alli Dore, Natasha de Bourg , Colin Macrae , Gary King , Jean-Luc Cerza Lanaux, and, of course, a familiar face: Captain Glenn Shephard (via Bravo ).

First mate Gary King did not get along with Jean-Luc Cerza Lanaux in season 2

Jean-Luc Cerza Lanaux

As said, this year's BDSY team is full of brand new faces, which a lot of the series' fans think was the right move. The new cast is definitely expected to shake things up. Captain Glenn Shephard told Us Weekly that he believes Gary King is "a bit of a party animal," but added that he appreciates King's sailing skills. "He's a good sailor. I could relax a little bit with a right-hand man there. I didn't have to explain to him, he understands."

Captain Shephard also offered a little bit of dirt on the season. Turns out  Jean-Luc Cerza Lanaux , the youngest crew member, and first mate Gary King aren't really good friends, but luckily they were still able to work well together. "I don't know that he and Gary got on perfectly, but I think they manage the season and their department quite well" (via Us Weekly ).

It turns out the real story is a little deeper than that. Meaww writes that Lanaux and King had a huge fight over how to clean the ship. Lanaux and fellow crewmate Colin Macrae were mopping when they decided to use a cleaning solvent instead of soap... but then discovered that the solvent was really diesel fuel. The publication notes, "You could see Jean was apologetic and first mate Gary King was fuming but a little quick-thinking helped the crew manage the crisis."

There's also a scary accident in season 2 of Below Deck Sailing Yacht

Captain Shepard from BDSY

Interpersonal drama isn't the only thing that will keep season 2 of Below Deck Sailing Yacht exciting for viewers. It turns out that Captain Shephard has now become the first captain in series history to crash a yacht.

Shephard explained to Showbiz Cheat Sheet that the accident was pretty rough. "That particular [accident], I felt it. And when I'm feeling the impact I'm fearing the worst and thinking 'Oh my God this is really, really bad.' In the end, it's not quite as bad as I feared. So I may have overreacted a little bit. But yeah, it's pretty serious."

It also sounds like the accident happened due to error on Captain Shephard's part and technical issues he dealt with. "I've never had an issue with the result like we had. And you can tell I was quite upset about it. I've never had that kind of result, but I've definitely had issues before where I've lost everything. The engines shut down. I have no thrusters, nothing. And that can be a little nerve-wracking. That's something that can be a showstopper, like an 'end the season' and kind of thing. It's something that can be very, very serious. People can get injured, it can be very serious."

Guests get a whopping 50% off if they book a trip on the yacht

Below Deck Sailing Yacht's yacht

If sailing around as a guest on Below Deck Sailing Yacht is your idea of a dream vacation , you're in luck: with the right amount of money, it's really easy to hop aboard the Parsifal III ! The show's producer, Mark Cronin, participated in an Ask Me Anything forum on Reddit four years ago and revealed quite a lot about what it takes to be on the show.

For starters, Cronin said that while he wishes he could be more selective, he simply can't; whoever can afford to sail on the boat is welcome. "Whoever's check clears the bank is on the show! I wish I could be picky" (via Reddit). Luckily, guests don't have to pay the full $150,000 fee to charter such a yacht. "The guests pay their own real money to charter the boat. But we do give them a discount (about 50%) from the real cost of the vessel for three days. We ask them to tip about 15% to 20% of the full cost though. The tip amount is up to them as well. They are not compensated, but we pay their airfare" (via Reddit).

Guests on Below Deck Sailing Yacht can be super rude

Below Deck Sailing Yacht's yacht

Mark Cronin fielded quite a few questions about the passengers that come on board the yacht throughout filming. It turns out that most of them have the same complaint: they don't like how they appear on the show. But Cronin adds that typically, if someone appears to be rude on the show, they're that way in real life. While speaking about the passengers who have come on board, he noted, "I think they are actually rude sometimes. Rich people can be rude to people they consider 'servants.' Some get a rush out of it I guess. They're hungry for 'amusement' and sometimes abusing the staff [is] amusement" (via Reddit).

Fans who watched the first season of BDSL likely remember one guest who caused a lot of problems. As Decider recounts, two men behaved as if chartering the boat meant they had the right to behave however they saw fit. The pair wanted the crew to drop them off at a beach bar to find women to spend time with, but worried aloud about what they were wearing, with one of them demanding, "Pull right on the f****** beach. I don't want to get the f****** linens dirty."

Cast members get paid way more than you might think

The crew from season 5 of Below Deck

Jill Goslicky, the show's executive producer, recently participated in her own Ask Me Anything forum on Reddit and addressed a few key questions: how do people become yachties on the show, and how do they get paid?

Goslicky says that the crew is paid in a multitude of ways, "They do get a salary for being hired as part of the yacht crew, they do get to keep their tips, and they do get a production fee" (via Reddit). Refinery29 also reports that crew salaries range from $5,000 to $10,000 a month, depending on the position and in the case of the chef , experience and training.

A second and third stewardess starts the monthly salary scale at $5,000, followed by the chief stew, who can earn up to $1,000 more. The salary of the chef, meanwhile, starts out at $7,000, with the potential of earning up to $10,000.  And most importantly? That's all before they get anything extra: "This is before tip, which across the Below Deck seasons averages $15,000 a person for about six weeks of work" (via  Refinery ).

People who want to be on a  Below Deck  show have to follow a few key steps before they can get the gig. Men's Health   explains that the first step is filling out the application online. Yachtie applicants also have to be at least 21 years old, have a visa for the filming location, and be qualified to work on a yacht in the first place.

The Fate Of Below Deck Sailing Yacht After Season 5 Isn't Promising (The Show's Reputation Is Damaged)

  • Gary's sexual misconduct scandal has permanently tarnished Below Deck Sailing Yacht.
  • Bravo must remove Gary from future seasons for the show to regain its reputation.
  • Season 5 may be in danger of cancellation due to Gary's scandal.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 is highly anticipated, but its fate isn't promising after Gary King 's sexual misconduct scandal was revealed. Captain Glenn Shephard leads the cast of the exciting spin-off aboard the Parsifal III, with Gary, Colin Macrae, and Daisy Kelliher's love triangle as the pinnacle of season 4's drama. However, after Gary's sexual misconduct allegations were revealed and later brushed under the rug by Bravo producers, the popular franchise staple could be in danger. Will Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 return?

During Below Deck Sailing Yacht filming in the summer of 2022, makeup artist Samantha Suarez escorted cast members back and forth for confessional interviews, including Gary. After a talking head in which Gary was visibly intoxicated, Samantha walked him back to his quarters, at which time Gary prevented her from leaving, even grabbing her from behind. While Bravo issued a statement, the allegations were barely addressed, and Gary still allegedly filmed Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5.

20 Best Reality TV Shows Right Now

Reality TV is more popular than ever. With so many to choose from, here are some of the best reality TV shows to stream or watch right now.

Gary King's Misconduct Scandal Has Put A Permanent Negative Stain On BDSY

Gary needs to go.

Gary's sexual misconduct scandal has put a permanent stain on Below Deck Sailing Yacht . He's openly struggled with professionalism and alcohol on the show for years. Additionally, this isn't the first time alcohol has gotten Gary in trouble with sexual harassment. While Daisy came to his defense, his love triangle with Daisy and Colin was also problematic, with Gary becoming distracted by the Below Deck drama. By casting Gary in Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5, Bravo indicated that sexual misconduct wasn't taken seriously by the network .

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5 Needs To Bring It For Bravo To Order Another Season

The series is in trouble.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 has allegedly already been filmed, with rumors swirling that Gary's scandal has halted its release. Given his prominence in the series, it would be difficult to edit Gary out of the show or even reduce his role. Therefore, it would be better for Bravo to scrap the current season entirely and film a new charter season for Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 .

It's the responsibility of Bravo producers to ensure the safety of the cast and crew during filming, and Samantha wasn't adequately protected from Gary's advances.

The cast and crew would need to bring it to revitalize the spin-off, or it's going to get canceled. Below Deck , Below Deck Mediterranean , and Below Deck Down Under are successful enough to continue without Below Deck Sailing Yacht . The popular cast members could go to another Below Deck series.

What Can Below Deck Sailing Yacht Producers Do To Fix The Show's Reputation?

They need to get rid of gary.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht is a sinking ship , but not all hope is lost. Bravo producers have already shown their understanding of the seriousness of Gary's sexual misconduct by disinviting him to BravoCon in 2023. However, they need to further distance themselves from Gary and fire him from future seasons. If it's impossible to decrease his presence in Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5, the season needs to be scrapped. Only then can Below Deck Sailing Yacht return in good faith and conscience for another installment.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht is available to stream on Peacock.

I lived ‘below deck’ on a luxury yacht — here’s what you need to know.

Tahiti, St. Thomas and the French Riviera — I’ve yachted in all of these exotic locales, albeit from the comfort of my couch. And, millions of Americans are in the same boat.

In 2013, “Below Deck,” introduced the masses to the most glamorous mode of traveling: yachting. Since then, it’s become a Bravo mainstay with Season 9 of “Below Deck Mediterranean’’ premiering in June.

But how real is the reality show? I spent five nights on a yacht in Croatia to find out.

A woman in a bikini standing on the deck of the 'Adriatic Escape' boat, ready to experience reality TV drama on the high seas in Maldives.

A tip on tipping

My suitcase wasn’t bursting with Benjamins. An agency at your final destination provides cash for the crew’s tip money. While you’re expected to tip $30,000 for a two-night cruise on “Below Deck,” in real life you only have to tip 10% to 15% of your charter fee. That’s about $10,000 for a two-night cruise on a 180-foot charter yacht like Mustique (from $250,000 a week), which stars in the new season.

According to Zvonimir Androić, president of the yacht charter company Via Croatia, more often than not, the tip comes from what’s left over after provisioning.

So, shun the Dom Pérignon and skip the beluga caviar, and you’ll have money to spare.

What’s up, dock?

A luxury yacht, named Adriatic Escape, docked at Split Marina with a weekly rental price of US$52,800

In real life, “Below Deck’s” favorite commercial-break cliff-hanger isn’t nearly as dramatic. Docking in our yacht, Via Croatia’s five-cabin, 100-foot Adriatic Escape (from $52,800 a week), was breezy.

I asked the crew if they hated setting up the slide — a tortuous, Herculean task if you believe what you see on TV.

“It’s not that bad,” a twentysomething Croatian deckhand, as cute as his on-screen counterparts, told me. “That said, we’re definitely not sad if you don’t ask for it.”

Play it cool

Barbie Pascual arranging a table on the set of Below Deck Season 11.

Despite being served meat on more than one occasion, my vegetarian co-guests on board weren’t divas when it came to cuisine — a major source of chef-related stress on the show.

Tantrums aren’t the norm Barbie Pascual, the “Below Deck” stewardess famous for putting up with former “RHONY” star Jill Zarin’s demands for the perfect Diet Coke in the “Real Housewives of Grenada” episode, tells me. “Guests know they are being filmed so their reactions are more extreme than they’d be if the cameras weren’t around,” she says.

Pascual’s biggest tip for first-time yachters? Don’t go skinny dipping, like they do on the show, after dark.

“People forget about currents, sharks, etc.,” she says. “Jumping in the water should always be with the captain’s consent!”

Our humorless Croatian yacht captain was a far cry from “Below Deck Mediterranean’s” affable Captain Sandy Yawn. I think we only saw him twice over the course of four days, and he definitely didn’t join us for dinner.

That was fine by us because the stews and deckhands were always handy with anything we needed — including at chat.

Asking for it

A group of people on the Adriatic Escape boat, available for weekly rent at $52,800

“No” is a word you’ll never hear on a yacht, unless there is a safety issue, Pascual says.

While we didn’t ask our crew to do a striptease or decorate for ‘70s night (two recurring requests on the show), out-there demands aren’t out of the question, as long as you’re willing to pay for it.

For example, Via Croatia is currently retrofitting one of its multimillion-dollar superyachts for an upcoming charter booked by a multigenerational Jewish family from Florida.

“In addition to paying the charter fee, the client is literally buying everything new: pots, pans, silverware, et cetera,” said Androić. “They’re even spending $30,000 on a new tender for the elderly mother-in-law.”

Now, I’m no reality show producer, but a picky primary trying to keep his wife, her elderly mom and their kosher kids happy at sea has the makings of an Emmy Award-winning episode.

Yachting on a budget

Agape Rose, an ultra luxury mini cruiser yacht with various amenities, sailing on Croatia's Adriatic coast.

Charters are cheapest at the beginning and end of a destination’s season. Via Croatia’s yuppiest yacht, the 160-foot, 12-cabin Agape Rose , fetches $200,000 a week in July and August. But it’s just $164,000 a week in April and October. Divide that by 24 of your closest friends and family and it’s just $6,800 a person.

If that’s still too much, consider booking a yacht club suite on one of MSC Cruises ’ Mediterranean voyages.

Sure, you’ll be on a cruise liner, but for $1,659 a person you’ll be treated to seven nights of private butler service with a private pool and restaurant that the pleb passengers don’t even know exists.

Northern Sun: the yacht in Below Deck Down Under Season 2

northern sun below deck down under season 2

Below Deck Down Under season 2 explored the coasts around Cairns, the gateway to access the great barrier reef and the Whitsunday Islands.

And it’s hard to imagine a better yacht than the Northern Sun motoryacht to explore this iconic area. The Northern Sun is a 50.8m (now yacht) that used to be a vessel dedicated for ice exploration. The refit work took two years but was clearly worth it when we look at the result displayed in this second season of the Australian Spin off.

Although the Northern Sun is built by the Japanese Narasaki shipyard, it surely is a boat that fits Australian waters quite well and could delight anyone looking to explore the most rugged locations in style, whether they are polar or tropical.

Northern Sun is available for charter from $161,700 / week . Her latest asking price was $15,000,000 .

‘Below Deck’ Sailing Yacht Shares Chilling Link To Sunken Morgan Stanley Billionaire’s Boat ‘Bayesian’

The plot thickens...

‘Below Deck’ Sailing Yacht Shares Chilling Link To Sunken Morgan Stanley Billionaire’s Boat ‘Bayesian’

Much has been made of the tragic events that unfolded earlier this week off the Sicilian coast, with the Morgan Stanley international chairman initially missing before being found dead alongside tech founder Mike Lynch. Adding more intrigue to the tale, a strange link between the sunk Bayesian yacht and hit show Below Deck has been uncovered…

The Italian shipyard Perini Navi, which built the PARSIFAL III — the yacht featured in the popular reality show Below Deck that rammed a pier due to an engine malfunction — is also the maker of the Bayesian , which tragically sank on August 19.

PARSIFAL III Misadventure

Below Deck is an American reality TV series that made its debut in 2013 on Bravo TV . The show, to date, is running on season 11, with a new cast of crews on every luxury superyacht during its chartering season. Their challenges while catering to wealthy guests are depicted on the show. The PARSIFAL III , a 177-foot yacht, suffered a big mishap during an episode of the show’s second Sailing Yacht season which first aired on May 17, 2021.

reality show on a yacht

While trying to maneuver in bad weather, the yacht hit a dock because its engine broke down. In an explanation, Yacht’s Captain Glenn Shephard said:

“I was using a different maneuver mode. And there’s a computer in between the throttles and the propeller that adjusts the load on the engine. Maybe my inputs were too much for the computer and it kind of, I don’t know, froze or didn’t react in the right way. I’m not really 100 percent sure. But I was pushing ahead and it was still moving backwards, which is not normal.”

Some of the wreckage was visible floating in the sea after the accident. Luckily, no serious damage was caused in this crash. Launched in 2005, PARSIFAL III can accommodate up to 12 charter guests in a master suite, two double cabins, and two twin cabins. The yacht also has a Jacuzzi and two Open Bic sailboats for guests to play with.

Not So Lucky

The Bayesian , also created by Perini Navi, was not as lucky. Sailing in a sudden and strong squall that created too much wind and conditions for the yacht to handle, the vessel sank after its mast broke in half off the coast of Sicily near the fishing village of Porticello   in the early hours of Monday.

reality show on a yacht

Of the 22 people on board at the time of the tragedy, 15 were rescued, while six others lost their lives, among them being the chairman of Morgan Stanley International, Jonathan Bloomer, and tech tycoon Mike Lynch.

His daughter Hannah Lynch, 18, is still missing, and rescuers are frantically searching for her. Lynch was a British technology entrepreneur who achieved fame through his software company, Autonomy Corporation, which Hewlett-Packard bought for over $11 billion USD in 2011.

‘survive the raft’: watch a sneak peek from the new social experiment reality show.

reality show on a yacht

Discovery’s new reality show “Survive the Raft” kicks off on Sunday, and “Extra” has an exclusive sneak peek at what’s in store.

Based on a 1973 social experiment, the show follows nine contestants living together on a boat. They are tasked with completing challenges as they work toward a shared cash prize. At the end of each episode, however, they have the option of continuing together or swapping out a contestant for a new participant.

In the clip, host Nate Boyer checks in with the contestants to see how their first night went. While everyone seems “agreeable,” a contestant named CJ opens up about his apprehensions in a confessional.

“Everyone at face value says we’re friends and we’re going to ‘Kumbaya’ around the campfire, but the truth is I have no idea who these people are,” CJ says. “I have no idea if I trust them and if I voice my opinions right away, it may be my death sentence.”

Cut back to Nate and the group, and Boyer asks a woman named Maddie if she thinks it will be “smooth sailing.”

She replies, “I think we all know it is not going to be smooth sailing,” adding, “I have a lot of faith. Each and every one of us I feel very confident can make this work.”

“Survive the Raft” premieres Sunday at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Discovery.

EXCLUSIVE: Below Deck season 6 yacht revealed

By Katia Damborsky   4 September 2018

For the sixth season of Bravo’s Below Deck, the 56m/184ft motor yacht 'My Seanna ’ from Delta Marine will be playing host.

Premiering on 2 October, Below Deck is coming back to our screens and the superyacht of the season can be exclusively unveiled as My Seanna  - a motor yacht renowned for her opulent interiors, chic deck areas and dedicated entertainment and leisure facilities.

At 56 metres, the Delta Marine build is the largest yacht ever to feature on the show and the first in Below Deck's six seasons to use her real name as opposed to a pseudonym. This doesn't include the spin-off Below Deck Mediterranean, which follows the lives of superyacht crews during the summer charter season.

Below Deck, on the other hand, is filmed during the winter cruising season. Usually, it is set in the popular cruising grounds of the Caribbean but, this year, in another first for the show, it takes place in Tahiti - an idyllic island in French Polynesia which offers an alternative destination for winter charters.

The ocean is calling... 🌊 and @Captain_Lee_Rosbach is picking up with an all-new season of #BelowDeck Tuesday, October 2 @ 9/8c. Link in bio for a first look! A post shared by BravoTV (@bravotv) on Aug 22, 2018 at 8:24am PDT

Filming of the hit reality TV show began in Tahiti in early February and now a recently released trailer included below provides a glimpse into what on-deck antics viewers can expect from the crew and guests alike.

In this season, fan favourite Captain Lee Rosbach returns to the helm accompanied by Chief Stewardess Kate Chastain. But apart from these two familiar faces, the rest of the crew are new to the show.

Held by Below Deck veteran Ben Robinson for the first four seasons, the chef position will be filled by Adrian Martin, an experienced superyacht chef who has won awards at some of the industry's top culinary contests.

Following on from his predecessor Ben Robinson, Adrian Martin is expected to cause plenty of drama in the galley

Kate from Below Deck on motor yacht My Seanna

Following on from his predecessor, Adrian will serve up delicious dishes as well as plenty of drama when his diva reputation surfaces. Likewise, tension is created when Kate forms an exclusive clique with her first ever male stew - Josiah Carter - leaving fellow stewardess Caroline Bedol feeling left out.

Also anticipated to provide compulsive viewing is the dynamics between bosun Chandler Brooks, who begins to crack under the pressure, and his deckhands Ross Inia and Ashton Pienaar. Female deckhand Rhylee Gerber will be making her debut on the show too.

The show will also provide an insight into what a French Polynesia yacht charter is like. But to find out more about what other luxury yachts have featured in the TV series, read our article Names of Below Deck yachts revealed . 55m Trinity superyacht Purpose will feature on season 9 of Below Deck

Mustique: 55m Trinity makes a return for season 9 of Below Deck Mediterranean in Greece

Season nine of hit reality TV Show Below Deck Mediterranean will return to screens on 3 June 2024 with Captain Sandy Yawn at the helm, marking her eighth consecutive season. According to TV network Bravo, the reality show will be based in the Greek city of Athens and the superyacht crew will cruise on the 54.9-metre Trinity motor yacht Purpose  - a yacht that was formerly known as Mustique.

The yacht was called Mustique throughout the filming of the show, and only changed her name to Purpose in January 2024, shortly after the yacht was listed for sale for $19,000,000. She underwent a substantial refit last year, with her formerly white hull repainted sky blue and her interior undergoing substantial changes, too.

Who are the cast in Below Deck Mediterranean season 9?

Chief stew Aesha Scott (who originally worked with Captain Sandy on seasons four and five of Below Deck Mediterranean ) will return along with Elena Dubaich, who stepped in during season seven when Kyle Viljoen got injured. Chef Johnathan Shillingford, bosun Iain Maclean, deckhands Joe Bradley, Nathan Gallagher, and Gael Cameron, and stew Bri Muller, complete the crew.

A look inside the Below Deck superyacht

Purpose was built by Trinity Yachts in the USA in 2006 and recently underwent a refit in 2023, which saw the completion of a new interior and a comprehensive upgrade of all operational systems. The yacht for charter is currently managed by Hill Robinson and is available throughout various stages of her world tour across the Mediterranean Sea, Scandinavia, Greenland and Canada.

Purpose accommodates 12 guests across six cabins, encompassing a master suite on the main deck and a VIP, three doubles and a twin on the lower deck. Her interior is characterised by a traditional yachting style with dark wood panelling and light upholstery featuring oceanic patterns and blue accents.

She boasts a range of social spaces, including the main saloon lounge with its baby grand piano, the formal dining room and upper deck lounge. Her standout feature includes a spacious sundeck, complete with a Jacuzzi, sun loungers and bar counter with stools – an area where charter guests can enjoy the space as an al fresco gym or open-air cinema when night falls.

Her charter credentials are heightened by a huge range of water toys, as well as an inflatable pool and beach club pontoon.

Equipped with at-anchor stabilisers and accompanied by a nine-metre Intrepid tender, the charter yacht has a top speed of 15.5 knots and a range of 4,000nm at her economical cruising speed.

How much does it cost to charter Mustique from Below Deck?

For summer 2024, Purpose (ex Mustique ) is chartering with Hill Robinson for a rate of €310,000 per week during high season.

BELOW DECK Do yacht guests get paid to be on the show? How much does a luxury yacht charter cost?

reality show on a yacht

While the crew of Bravo’s Below Deck reality shows provides the bulk of the story and drama, a lot of spice and intrigue is supplied by the guests who charter the luxury yachts. Often their behavior, demands, and personality offer a lot to the shows, which begs the question: do the guests get paid a production fee to appear on the show? Do they get free vacations? Or, do they actually pay to be on this popular reality show?

The pampered guests you see on the show are actually paying to be on the show, not the other way around. Executive producer Mark Cronin confirmed that in 2020 to The Daily Dish that the guests “spend their real money to be on the show.” They do, however, get a 50% discount, and free airfare to charter a yachting trip on the show, so they are getting a deal.

They are chartering vacations on luxury yachts that start at $140,000 for a week on the low end. All the yachts featured on Below Deck: Mediterranean charter for at least $175,000, and up to $300,000 for the week. Even though these shows garner big ratings, it would not make much financial sense to offer up these luxury experiences as payment for being on the show. They also leave tips if the service goes beyond their expectations. Many of their strict demands leave the crews frazzled trying to deliver exactly what they want, and anticipation of a nice tip helps drive their will to provide above and beyond service.

This isn’t the only time subjects of reality TV have a net negative on their balance sheet for appearing in the spotlight. When it comes to shows that focus on splashy lifestyles, keeping up appearances for the brand with the most over-the-top fashions and lavish parties can sometimes become more of a priority than financial stability.

Five bodies found inside superyacht that sank off Sicily

PORTICELLO, Sicily — Divers recovered four bodies Wednesday from inside a superyacht that sank in a sudden storm off Sicily , Salvatore Cocina, director of the island's Civil Protection Agency, confirmed to NBC News.

Cocina later confirmed to Sky News that a fifth body had been found and was being brought to shore. One passenger remains missing.

The identities of the bodies were not immediately released. Their recovery follows a dayslong search in the deep waters off Italy where British tech tycoon Mike Lynch  and several others were believed to be trapped in the hull. Fifteen of the 22 people aboard survived.

The rest had been missing since early Monday, when the Bayesian was caught in the storm anchored off the coast of Porticello, a village near the Sicilian capital city, Palermo.

The body of the ship’s cook, identified as Recaldo Thomas, a Canadian Antiguan national, was recovered Monday.

On Wednesday, NBC News witnessed what appeared to be at least three body bags being lifted from fire department boats after they pulled into port at Porticello. It was unclear whose bodies they were. Some were later transferred to ambulances and driven away from the dock.

Lynch’s 18-year-old daughter, Hannah; Morgan Stanley International Chairman Jonathan Bloomer and his wife, Judy; and Clifford Chance lawyer Chris Morvillo and his wife, Neda, are also missing.

Bayesian yacht accident in Sicily

The Bayesian is owned by a firm linked to Lynch’s wife, Angela Bacares, who was among the survivors rescued by a nearby vessel after they got into a lifeboat.

Built by the Italian shipbuilder Perini Navi in 2008, the U.K.-registered yacht could carry 12 guests and a crew of up to 10, according to online specialist boating sites. Its nearly 250-foot mast is the tallest aluminum sailing mast in the world, according to CharterWorld Luxury Yacht Charters.

Regularly described in U.K. media as “Britain’s Bill Gates,” Lynch was  acquitted of fraud by a San Francisco jury this year, stemming from the sale of his software company Autonomy to Hewlett-Packard for $11 billion in 2011.

The Mediterranean sailing vacation was designed to be a celebration for Lynch, who brought Bloomer, who testified in his defense, and Morvillo, one of his U.S. lawyers, on the trip.

Lynch's co-defendant Stephen Chamberlain was not aboard the Bayesian, but in what appears to be a tragic coincidence, a  car struck and killed  him Saturday as he was jogging in a village about 68 miles north of London, local police said.

Claudio Lavanga and Claudia Rizzo reported from Porticello. Henry Austin reported from London.

Claudio Lavanga is Rome-based foreign correspondent for NBC News.

Claudia Rizzo is an Italy based journalist.
