Checkmate is available in the Mediterranean this summer and will head to the Caribbean and Bahamas in the winter.
Checkmate is a newly launched 44 metre Benetti Vision motor yacht and is brand new to the charter market. She accommodates up to 12 guests in five cabins, including a main deck master suite with amazing 180 panoramic views and large windows; a feature shared by all the lower deck double guest cabins. Francois Zuretti designed the ‘contemporary chic’ interior with a combination of cherrywood, burr madrona and Italian marbles. She has a myriad of spacious guest areas, including a bridge deck skylounge that stands out with its aft sliding doors that open 270 degrees for a divine al fresco dining experience. Zero speed stabilisers ensure comfort for guests at all times, even at anchor.
Checkmate has an impressively sized sun deck with its own dayhead (a first for this series) and an multitude of water toys to entertain all her guests. She also has VSAT constant Internet.
Charter rates for the Mediterranean start at $225,000 per week, plus expenses, and for the Caribbean , $200,000.

Benetti Yachts Launches Superyacht “Checkmate” for U.S. Client
After the traditional breaking of the champagne bottle across her bows, the superyacht slipped smoothly into the Mediterranean from a specially built yacht ramp to the notes of Giuseppe Verdi’s “Và Pensiero”.
Present at the ceremony were the owner (a well known yacht owner / surgeon from Washington, D.C. ) and his family, together with all the Benetti Yachts yard staff involved in her almost 2 year long construction and fitting out.
CEO of the Mega-yacht division of the the Azimut /Benetti Group, Vincenzo Poerio, declared during the ceremony: “ We are particularly proud of our latest launch, the 100th fiberglass yacht built in Viareggio since 1998. This is a further demonstration of Benetti’s ability to listen to the Client and interpret his specific needs; and above all, another example of a perfect blend between timeless design, world class construction, safety and an extremely high quality on-board life, both for the owner and his crew ”.

Additional Information
Accommodations.
A sliding companionway door and a large set of stairs with a starboard-side vertical handrail lead to the climate-controlled salon. With its 16 ft. 4 in. beam, the widest of any boat in this class, the salon is a spacious social area for relaxing and entertaining. The starboard-side galley, which sits opposite an L-shaped lounge with a dinette
table, includes teak cabinetry with meticulous joinery and fit and finish, expansive Corian countertops, an electric range, separate under-counter refrigerator and freezer units and a microwave/convection oven. Other notable amenities include a stereo system with a 24-inch flat screen HD TV.
In the forward master stateroom, the island queen bed with mattress has a lift-up top with gas pistons and maple-lined storage underneath. There's also a maple-lined hanging locker. Air conditioning, a 19-inch flat screen television and access to the head and shower round out the standard amenities. The head has custom Amtico flooring, a one-piece molded Corian countertop with rounded edges and a sink with a satin nickel faucet. With its two-person berth, the aft guest stateroom can accommodate another couple and makes for a nice hideaway for the kids.
Command Deck
The command deck shares many of the practical and notable aspects of its larger siblings, including our signature and tournament-proven centerline forward helm station on a raised platform for enhanced visibility. The beautifully finished fiberglass windshield frame's mullions are strategically placed for a gin-clear view forward. The console
holds a bank of electronics displays, and has space for engine instrumentation and other accessories. Recessed compartments accommodate radios and additional equipment, plus accessory switches and controls.
Cockpit/Engine Room
Viking engineered the 44 Open for the installation of a Seakeeper gyro stabilizer, which brings great stability to the vessel to increase overall comfort. This beauty has one installed. Just steps away from the command deck, the 119-square-foot cockpit is tournament-ready with flush rod holders, a transom live well, and a transom door with a lift gate, tackle stowage, step-box coolers and in-deck fish and stowage wells. Extra 90 degree swivel rod holders were installed along the transom. Guests can take in the fishing action from the observation mezzanine's aft-facing lounge seating (which has freezer
storage underneath).
With twin MAN 800-hp diesels, the 44 Open will cruise at 30 knots with a top end around 34.5 knots depending upon load and sea conditions. The engine room, lazarette, forward bilge and anchor locker are all painted with Snow White Awlgrip for maximum visibility and easier maintenance. A Delta-T engine room ventilation system, an oil exchange system and an Onan 13.5 kW E-QD (electronic quiet diesel) Series generator are just some of the standard mechanical and electrical equipment.
The 44 Open excels as both a hardcore sportfishing boat and a comfortable cruising yacht, delivering the fishability,
accommodations, comfort and performance that you demand on the water.

So, if youre in the market for a superyacht, youre looking at an investment that could easily break the bank.
The cost of a superyacht is driven by a variety of factors, including size, amenities, and customization.
Generally, the larger the yacht, the more expensive it will be.
Superyachts typically range in size from 100 feet to over 200 feet, and they can be as wide as 40 feet.

In short, the cost of a superyacht can vary widely depending on its size, amenities, and customization.
While some may be able to get away with spending a few million dollars, others may end up spending hundreds of millions of dollars on their dream yacht.
No matter what your budget is, its important to do your research and find out exactly what youre getting for your money before signing on the dotted line.
Keeping Superyachts Out of the Public Eye
When it comes to owning a superyacht, some owners prefer to keep their vessels out of the public eye.
Understandably, these individuals are concerned with privacy and discretion, and therefore tend to take measures to ensure their yachts are not visible to outsiders.
For instance, some superyacht owners opt to keep their vessels in private marinas, away from the public areas of larger ports.
Additionally, some yacht owners may choose to hire security guards to patrol and protect their vessels while they are moored or sailing.
In addition to physical security, some superyacht owners also use technology to keep their vessels out of the public eye.
For example, a yacht owner may choose to install a satellite-based communications system that allows them to keep their vessel completely off-radar.
This system works by bouncing signals off satellites rather than transmitting them, making it virtually impossible for anyone to track the yachts movements.
Finally, some superyacht owners also choose to limit the number of people who have access to their vessels.
For instance, the owner may only allow family members and close friends to board the yacht.
Additionally, the owner may choose to employ a limited number of staff to help maintain the vessel and keep it running smoothly.
These individuals may be required to sign non-disclosure agreements to ensure they do not disclose any information about the yacht or its owner.
Overall, while some superyacht owners may choose to keep their vessels out of the public eye, there are still plenty of other ways to show off the opulence associated with owning a superyacht.
From swimming pools and helicopter pads to on-board cinemas and spas, there are many luxurious amenities that can make a superyacht the envy of any jet setter.

Checkmate Powerboats goes all out for 2023
Checkmate Boats is embarking on a new journey with the help of Stax Performance Marine.
Checkmate Powerboats and its owner, Pete Caldwell, are distributing their boats through Stax Marine. Caldwell is vowing to revive the legacy brand and moving production of the boats to Washington, North Carolina. Pete grew up surrounded by experts in the performance boating world, even having worked for Reggie Fountain at the age of 14. His family is well known in the industry to say the least and they are an incredibly knowledgeable bunch.
Pete’s father Jim worked alongside Reggie Fountain for many years. Jim also helped design Donzi’s 38 ZRC hull and to tool the ZR hulls in the early 2000’s.
It is wonderful to see high-performance boating in Canada and even better to see the owners of these great companies participating in the sport as well. Pete and the owners of Stax, Alex Decristoforo and Stan Vandervliet, all live and breathe the sport that they do business in and that is certainly a recipe for success. The amalgamation of expertise and resources enabled Stax Marine to introduce ground-breaking models to their lineup.
Checkmate has always possessed a unique and unmistakable aesthetic that sets it apart. With the introduction of newer, heavier, and more powerful engines, Checkmate must make the necessary adjustments to maintain its signature style while ensuring optimal performance.
Donzi was founded by Don Aronow in 1964, and quickly established itself as a trailblazer in the powerboat industry. Aronow’s visionary designs merged speed, style, and superior craftsmanship, capturing the attention of boating enthusiasts around the globe. Donzi was later run by the famous Richard E. “Dick” Genth, who increased the number of dealers selling Donzi Boats from three to 27.
Donzi boats gained prominence for their sleek lines, exceptional performance, and relentless pursuit of speed. Today, Stax Marine is the exclusive dealer of Donzi boats in Canada based in Brockville, ON.
Over the years, Donzi introduced numerous ground-breaking models that pushed the limits of powerboat design. The Donzi Sweet 16, launched in 1964, became an instant sensation, setting the stage for future successes. The Donzi 22 Classic, a timeless masterpiece introduced in the 1980s, solidified the brand’s reputation for combining elegance with exhilaration. Donzi’s innovative approaches, such as employing deep-vee hulls for enhanced stability and speed, became hallmarks of the brand.
Be sure to check out the new models from Checkmate and Donzi at the Poker Runs America 1000 Islands Poker Run in Gananoque from July 7-8 and in Kingston from August 4-5, 2023. Poker Runs America has put on these amazing events for over 35 years and counting.
Donzi’s lineup currently consists of their 22 Classic, 38 ZRC, 39 VRZ, and the 41 GTZ. As for Checkmate, Caldwell plans to focus on one model for this year including the 2400 BRX. Checkmate reportedly built about a dozen boats last year.

To the amazement of onlookers, former UFC owner Frank Fertitta III’s $250 million yacht, Viva, got stuck at a Fort Lauderdale bridge. The 308-foot yacht, boasting a gym, pool, cinema, helipad, and even a beauty salon, may have suffered damage in the accident.
The Viva yacht, known as an active Feadship luxury vessel delivered in 2021, experienced a bit of inactivity at Fort Lauderdale on September 10th. The vessel, with a top speed of 20.0 knots, was caught in a state of inertia due to the massive luxury yacht being lodged against the bridge. A video of the 308-foot pleasure craft, named Motoryacht of the Year in 2022, shows the pearly white hull practically stuck to the bridge with barely any space for air to pass through. It doesn’t take a genius to guess that this unwanted attachment likely caused some damage, though it is difficult to confirm from the video.

Viva, an absolute ‘wow’ yacht –
Formerly known as Project 817, it boasts exterior design by Studio De Voogt and interiors by Peter Marino. It was designed with environmental impact in mind and is equipped with an advanced hybrid propulsion system that allows Viva to cruise comfortably at 12 knots on diesel-electric power.

Alice Guo confirms leaving PH by boats, one of which was a yacht
Dismissed Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo on Monday said that they left the Philippines via boats, one of which was a yacht.
"Umalis po kami, Madam Chair, by boat po," Guo told a Senate panel.
(We left, Mada'm Chair, by boat.)
"Meron po kaming sinakyang yate po," she added, confirming the information asked by Senator Risa Hontiveros who is the chairperson of the panel.
(There was a yacht we boarded.)
After being pressed by the senators to tell more details about their escape, Guo said they climbed aboard the yacht in a port in Metro Manila.
However, Guo refused to divulge to the public the name of the person who facilitated their yacht ride and the owner of the same.
What she only recalled was that the yacht has "wings" stickers and numbers on it.
The senators tried to get the names of the facilitator and the owner by asking Guo to write it on a piece of paper, but she requested them not to divulge it in public.
Guo wrote the name of the facilitator of the trip on a paper, but she noted that she is not sure if he is the owner of the yacht.
Guo has repeatedly told the senators that she is afraid for her safety due to threats which she refused to divulge to the Senate panel.
After riding the yacht for a "few hours", they transferred to a bigger boat. She said she doesn't know the exact location where they made the transfer.
"Madilim pa rin po...Basta dagat po," she said.
(It was still dark. It was in the sea.)
After transferring to a bigger boat, Guo said they stayed in one room for days. She added that she was not aware of the time because they were told not to use their cellphones.
"Siguro mga four or three or five [days]. Basta matagal po...Four days po siguro... Hindi po kami pinapalabas," she said.
(Maybe four or three or five [days]. It was long... Four days maybe... We were not allowed to go out.)
She admitted that she felt afraid in the middle of the second boat ride.
"Kung puwede lang umatras, aatras na po ako...Nakakatakot po talaga," she said.
(If it were just possible to back out, I would have backed out... It was really scary.)
"Gusto ko na po umuwi. Gusto ko na po bumalik," she added.
(I wanted to go home. I wanted to go back.)
Asked why she did not return, Guo said, "Nagkamali po talaga ako (I really made a mistake)."
After riding the second "big" boat, Guo said they transferred to another small boat then proceeded to Malaysia.
"Paglabas po namin, may sinakyan pa kami isang maliit na bangka... 'Yung bangka po bumiyahe pa po kami tapos Malaysia na po," she said.
(When we got out, we boarded a small boat... That boat traveled to Malaysia.)
Asked about the location where they arrived in Malaysia, Guo said she doesn't know because they were instructed not to look around the places they have been.
In a separate Senate investigation last August 27, Guo's supposed sister, Shiela Guo, told the senators that they left the Philippines by riding several boats .
According to Shiela, the three of them were fetched by a van from their farm in Tarlac and they traveled southbound from dinner time to midnight.
However, she said she does not know the location where they rode a small white boat. According to Shiela, the small boat can only cater to around 10 people.
They then transferred to a bigger boat which Shiela said can accommodate many people. The second ship appears to be a fishing ship because there were nets on it, according to Shiela.
After riding what seemed to be a fishing ship, Shiela said they transferred again to a smaller boat.
Asked if the last boat transferred them to Malaysia, Shiela answered in the affirmative.
It took a month before the Philippine government became aware that Guo and her siblings had left the country in July.

Alice Guo is the subject of multiple complaints, one of which was filed with a Tarlac court, which ordered her arrest for her alleged connections to the Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) in Bamban that was raided for illegal activities.
Among the complaints she is facing are graft, money laundering, and human trafficking.
