Yachts for sale in the UK & Abroad

Notes for prospective buyers.

The Sabre 27 was designed by Alan F. Hill and the prototype was built in 1969 by Eric White of Marine Construction (UK) Ltd (Marcon). Between 1969 and 1979 some 400 hulls were moulded.

On this page are various Sabre 27 yachts for sale in the UK and abroad. The Sabre 27 is available as either a fin or twin keel boat.

Notes for Sabre 27 sellers

A new owner will want to know all about the boat and its equipment. Records of equipment purchases, maintenance and replacements will also be helpful if a prospective purchaser wants to take advantage of the ‘no survey’ insurance scheme. Owners who plan to sell their Sabres are therefore advised to assemble all relevant documents and receipts, so that they can be passed on when the boat changes hands.

The cost of advertising is:

  • Members: £15 for a three month ad and £5 per month thereafter
  • Non-Members: £30 for a three month ad and £10 per month thereafter.

The Claire Lee

Claire Lee, Twin Keel, 1972 £2,500 - genuine offers will be considered

Latest Entry Update: April 23, 2024 Location: Southampton, tidal berth on the river Itchen Contact: Lee (via email button below)

A 1972 Twin Keel Sabre 27, that is now in need of love, attention and complete renovation.

The Claire Lee was my late Father’s yacht, he owned it from new.

From the paperwork I have found, it was built by Marine Construction UK Ltd (Marcon) between late July until mid-September 1972 and it was registered in early 1973. My Father knew Eric White, owner of Marcon.

Always moored in Southampton, it meant during my childhood and adolescence most Sundays during the warmer months (April to October) we would have day trips and weekends away to the Isle of Wight. Summer holidays would be to either stayover on the Claire Lee at Cowes week, or stay at Poole Harbour or we would venture further afield to Alderney and Cherbourg.

The Claire Lee was easy to handle, this was especially relevant to us as a family as we were novice sailors when she was new.

After much soul searching, unfortunately no one in the family wishes to take on the Claire Lee as sadly she has become a ‘project boat’, my father was unwell for a number of years before he died and this lack of maintenance has taken a toll on the Claire Lee as the photos testify. She is now in need of a refit/refurbishment. She is most definitely a ‘project boat’ and definitely not a jump on and sail away yacht.

The Volvo Penta engine (MD1B) was last run in the Summer of 2020. The engine currently turns by hand and this can visibly be seen on the flywheel and the prop. Also she requires a replacement gear-change cable to cockpit.

The tidal berth/mooring would allow for viewing below the waterline ( when the tide is out !! ).

  • Original sails (Main, Jib and Genoa) – these haven’t been checked and so will need inspecting
  • Fenders Original compass

Sabre 27 Sailing Yacht

sabre 27 yachts for sale

Engine Make: Beta Marine 20hp

sabre 27 yachts for sale

I have for sale my 1974 Mk11 Sabre 27, Anam Cara, (previously Erbas), located in Glasson Dock, Lancashire. She has a one off layout and was comissioned by a private buyer. She is professionally fitted out in teak throughout to a very high standard. I bought her in 2015 and spent a year fitting various improvements like the woodburner, new galley etc. However, worsening heart problems have left me without the energy to sail her so I am reluctantly giving up big boat sailing after 45 years.

She may just be the best one afloat, here's why; ENGINE· First class engine installation with Beta Marine 20hp engine (650 hours, hardly run in) with PPS shaft seal and Aquadrive universal joint shaft drive unit, new exhaust, mounts, etc. If you do not know about Aquadrives, they are an expensive and very worthwhile addition to any boat, (and not common on 27 footers) consisting of a universal joint between engine and prop shaft plus a separate thrust bearing. Engine alignment is thus not an issue and transmission noise is cut by about 50% which make long distance motoring a pleasurable experience.· Inspection hatch fitted to fuel tank, tank completely cleaned out and filled with fresh diesel ready to go. (not a common thing to be sorted on any older boat)· Extra pipe fitted, electric pump can remove any water from very bottom of tank.· Racor FV500 water separating fuel filter (cartridge changed from the top)· Sea water filter ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION· Fully re wired professionally with intelligent charging system, Sterling Power management, 4 step alternator booster, twin off switches for engine and general with cross over emergency engine start switch, various types of light fittings, LED galley lighting etc· Twin 105Ahr Trojan batteries· Separate engine start battery.· Engine fire alarm and seawater inlet filter. · Shore power.· Hot and cold water via calorifier, immersion heater and coil heated via engine.

INTERIOR· New 800w microwave.· Newly fitted out galley.· Proper fridge (no a cooler) accessed from worktop hatch.· Navigation table.· Lee cloths to berths in main cabin· New removable upholstery covers, original immaculate blue covers underneath.· Full cockpit tent in very good condition.· Full set of cockpit cushions.· New fully top quality teak table on a Lagun adjustable leg. (Can be raised or lowered and swung though 360 degrees. Also relocated on separate bracket.)· Dickinson woodburner with kindling draw under. Flue can be removed when sailing.· 3 water tanks (two stainless and one polythene) with comprehensive plumbing system. The engine can be cooled from these tanks in required (when out of the water)· Sliding cabin door with mirror.· Well fitted heads with proper Blakes Marine toilet and fold away sink with hot and cold water.· Good sprayhood.· Harken self tailing winches.

· Autohelm SAILS· Sails are top quality and very good condition. Main sail with 3 reefing points Genoa, 135% with high cut foot for visibility and with padded luff. No 2 working jib. Storm sail tri sail (which can be fitted to a separate track on the mast, a standard jib. All sails are about 8 years old .· Roller reefing· Detachable inner forestay for storm conditions.· All control lines led back to the cockpit with rope clutches and winches.

GENERAL· · Brand new Delta 35lb anchor with 20m new galvanised chain (from Jimmy Green with depth markers fitted) and 25m of 20mm multiplait rope. The chain locker has been fully cleaned out· Bruce anchor and chain.· Lofrans Electric windlass.· Lazy jacks.· Extra locker in cockpit floor for storage of fenders etc.· Extra small lockers at sides of cockpit.· Full instrumentation including a Raymarine A51 chart plotter and Icom IC-411 DSC VHF Radio· A mast lowering kit is included.· Plus the usual range of fittings (fenders, warps etc) and accessories too numerous to list here.· Epoxy hull treatment, 11 coats professionally applied in 2000. A very good newly built 4 wheeled yard trolley can be included as a separate negotiation. She was called ‘Erbas’ when I bought her but decided to re name her ‘Anam Cara’. I have the graphics for this but have not yet fixed them.

She has 5 berths including a quarter berth.Very good internal arrangement, very generous comfortable wide feel to the cabin, people say she is like the tardis, and of course the woodburner, which is very efficient, give a wonderful cosy feel. There are 4 surveys which have been completed over the years, 1985, 1991, 2005 and 2013. All attest to her fine fit out and condition. Reg B Crawly of Brightlingsea says ‘The craft was found to be in excellent condition, far in excess of what would be expected of a craft of this year of build. A considerable amount of money has been spent by the previous owners in fitting out and improving the overall general standard, which is far in excess of any other Sabre 27 sailing craft likely to be offered for sale and as a result its value must be considered very much higher.’ Unfortunately heart problems mean that I no longer have the energy to cope with her so very reluctantly I am having to give up big boat sailing.

To view around 60 photos of every conceivable aspect of the craft, message my via classifieds board for a link to Google photos. Please bear in mind that this is a 40 year old boat and although she has been very well looked after she is not new! This is a great opportunity to buy a first class one off boat, and there are not many around fitted with a fantastic cosy woodburner! I am in no great hurry to sell, nor do I need the money for another boat as I am returning to dinghy sailing. I am therefore only interested in serious buyers who know something about sailing and can see the amount of effort and money that has gone into Anam Cara.

I am not interested in spending ages showing someone round the boat only to be met with a low or silly offer. I am prepared to wait for the right person to sell too!
