Disney’s Yacht Club Resort is Scheduled for Refurbishment in 2025

by Allison Fricker · April 29, 2024

Disney's Yacht Club Resort

Disney’s Yacht Club Resort is known for its nautical details, elegant vibe, and close proximity to EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios .

Add that to an incredible pool, delicious dining , and upscale accommodations and you’ve got a recipe for one seriously magical Disney vacation!

Yacht Club

Of course, maintaining those beautiful grounds and pristine interiors means daily upkeep (thanks, Mousekeeping! ) as well as occasional construction.

We already know that the Yacht Club’s feature pool, Stormalong Bay, will be closed for refurbishment between January 2025 and June 2025.

Now, Disney has announced that the resort’s guest rooms will also see a refurbishment during this time. Let’s check it out!

Room Refurbishment at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort

According to Disney, some guest rooms at the resort will be under refurbishment from January 2025 through May 2025.

Yacht Club Refurbishment 2025

Disney is careful to note that the refurbishment includes “some” — but not all — guest rooms.

The construction may cause some additional noise during the day, but the work should quiet down by nighttime. This way, guests can still enjoy a peaceful night’s rest!

The notice indicates that “most” resort amenities will remain open during the refurbishment period.

stormalong bay

However, the refurbishment at Stormalong Bay will run simultaneously, meaning the feature pool will be closed during the room refurbishments. Guests will still be able to swim at The Yacht Club’s Tidal, Admiral, and Dunes Cove leisure pools.

A Fresh New Look

So far, few details are known about the upcoming room refurbishment.

Yacht Club

Disney’s Yacht Club Resort received its last upgrade back in 2018 when the wallpaper borders were removed and carpets were replaced with dark wood flooring.

The result was a sophisticated look with a distinctly upscale vibe.

Yacht Club Guest Room

We’re not sure what Disney has in mind for the refurbishment, but we can’t wait to find out!

Staying During Construction?

If you’re staying at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort during the upcoming room or pool refurbishments, you’ll still enjoy the resort’s amazing amenities, beautiful grounds, and peaceful pools.

Yacht Club Lobby

If noise is a concern, be sure to request a room that’s far from construction.

Stormalong Bay to Close for Lengthy Refurbishment in 2025 at Disney World

by Morgan Flaherty | Mar 8, 2024 | Walt Disney World , Walt Disney World Resorts

Disney has shared that Stormalong Bay will close for a lengthy refurbishment next year at Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resort.

Disney World is home to two water parks, Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach . However, hidden over at the EPCOT Resorts is Stormalong Bay , an absolutely massive pool for Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts. While not a full water park, it’s certainly a destination unto itself for guests of the hotels. Stormalong Bay features three acres of pools comprimising of 795,000 gallons of water. It’s home to a 230-foot-long waterslide, a lazy river, three whirlpool spas, and even a children’s pool with a boat replica and its own mini waterslide. And if you’re planning on visiting in 2025, Disney has just announced some dates you’ll want to note.

Attraction Issue Bundle

Attraction special – haunted mansion, attraction special – jungle cruise, attraction special – pirates of the caribbean, stormalong bay 2025 refurbishment.

In an announcement on the Disney World website, Disney shared that Stormalong Bay and Shipwreck Pool at Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts will closed from January 2025 to June 2025. Previously, the closure had been announced as lasting through May 2025, but that has been updated to reflect the longer length. The closure will be for routine maintenance, helping keep the destination in tip-top shape for visitors. During this time, the Tidal, Admiral, and Dunes Cove leisure pools will still remain open.

Closures for refurbishment are not a rarity in Disney World — after all, Disney needs to ensure everything is in proper working order! To help you better keep track of refurbishments and closures at the parks, hotels, and more, make sure to check out our full guide with updated information here .

2024-2025 Hotel Construction & Refurbishments at Disney World

yacht club pool closed

Hotel refurbishments, resort construction, and character-inspired makeovers continue at Walt Disney World from now through 2026. This resource provides info on room renovations, what to avoid, where to book, and what to expect in terms of hotel work at Walt Disney World. ( Updated September 14, 2024 .)

Walt Disney World continues to undertake refurbishments in an effort to modernize or refresh several of its resorts, as well as finish deferred maintenance that was postponed during the phased reopening. Consequently, there’s a growing number of smaller-scale projects that take certain buildings or a portion of rooms out of commission as part of more-targeted, rolling refurbishments. (The latest additions to the schedule are at All Star Movies, Pop Century, Port Orleans, Wilderness Lodge and Yacht Club.)

We do Walt Disney World monthly hotel stays, usually emphasizing resorts where there are new things, changes, or ongoing construction to see how that harms, improves, or otherwise impacts the guest experience. If you’ve yet to book a hotel for your upcoming Walt Disney World vacation and want to be notified about all of the latest resort changes, sign up here for our FREE Disney newsletter here.

When booking a Walt Disney World vacation, we highly recommend taking into account recently-completed and ongoing construction projects at the various resorts, as these absolutely can impact the quality of your trip. Booking a hotel with a closed pool or construction noise and cranes right outside your window is obviously going to be a worse experience than a resort that just finished its big refurbishment and still has that fresh feeling and ‘new hotel’ smell.

Note that this does not include DVC villas if they do not impact the hotel side of a resort. For those projects, see our Disney Vacation Club Resort Refurbishments & Construction Timeline . That covers all of the room reimaginings at Walt Disney World, Disneyland, and beyond that we just announced at the condo association meeting. Those projects also impact Boulder Ridge, Bay Lake Tower, and both Crescent Lake DVC resorts.

Suffice to say, a lot is happening on the hotel front at Walt Disney World. Let’s take a look at all of the current and upcoming major hotel projects that have the potential to impact guests…

Ongoing or Upcoming Hotel Refurbishments

All Star Movies (NEW) – Looking way down the road to early 2025, the Fantasia Pool at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort will be closed for routine maintenance from January 2025 through April 2025.

Guests may see or hear construction work during daytime hours. During this time, hotel guests are welcome to swim in the Duck Pond Pool at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort.

Art of Animation, Pop Century, Caribbean Beach & Riviera Resorts  – Nothing is currently on the schedule for these resorts. That’s the good news. The potentially bad news, depending upon how you want to look at it, is that the Skyliner gondolas will  probably  close in phases in Winter 2025.

We mention this because it happens every year, and Walt Disney World provided very short notice of it in 2024 to the consternation of many fans who already had trips booked. When Will Disney’s Skyliner Close for Refurbishment in 2025? offers predictions as to when the gondolas will close, with the most likely two weeks along with a range of other possible dates.

When this refurbishment occurs, the routine downtime of the “Most Magical Flight on Earth” affects all of the Skyliner routes and resorts. These gondolas service two Walt Disney World theme parks (Hollywood Studios and Epcot) plus four resorts (Art of Animation & Pop Century, Caribbean Beach, plus Riviera Resort & Caribbean Beach again) via 5 stations.

We strongly recommend switching resorts if you’re staying at a Skyliner hotel during this refurbishment. As discussed in that article (link above), the Skyliner is the  selling point of those resorts, and why they charge premium prices.

Beach Club Resort & Villas (UPDATED) – The soft goods refurbishment and lobby refresh of Disney’s Beach Club Resort and Villas is now finished. Not much changed–there’s new carpet in the hallways, and inside the room the carpet has been replaced by a laminate flooring.

There’s also new furniture–chairs and couch–as well as new curtains, Donald Duck wall art, and other refreshed surfaces. That’s all I noticed. These rooms were bland before, and they’re still pretty bland now–but minus carpet and plus better on-theme artwork.

With that said, a huge closure is on the horizon: Stormalong Bay Pool is Closing in 2025 for Refurbishment . From January 2025 through May 2025 June 2025 ( timeframe extended by one month ), Stormalong Bay and Shipwreck Pool at Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts will be closed for routine maintenance. Guests may see or hear construction work during daytime hours. During this time, Guests are welcome to swim at the Tidal, Admiral and Dunes Cove leisure pools.

BoardWalk Inn  – This resort is current in the midst of a multi-year reimagining. No timeline has been given for when the work will end, but our expectation is late 2024. The room renovations are now finished (see our Review, Photos & Videos of the New Rooms at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn ) and work is occurring along the BoardWalk itself.

Walt Disney World is also adding and changing elements of the beloved turn-of-the-century promenade and inside the Deluxe Resort, including a new lobby design, nearby coffee bar, delectable dining options, refreshed guest rooms, and more.

Inside Disney’s BoardWalk Inn, it’s difficult to discern whether work on the lobby is finished. Carousel Coffee has opened and Belle Vue Lounge has been refreshed, with both being done in half-measure. It seems that the same has also happened with the lobby, but it’s truly tough to tell. Very little changed.

The biggest project at the BoardWalk is the new Cake Bake Shop Restaurant that  should open in Late 2024 . (It’s already been delayed four times as construction moves at a glacial pace.) In the meantime, Blue Ribbon Corn Dogs recently debuted along the waterfront.

Fort Wilderness Campground – Walt Disney World is introducing New DVC Cabins Coming to Fort Wilderness Campground . The plan calls for more than 350 new cabins to replace the existing cabins at the resort, turning the resort side of the campground into a Disney Vacation Club property. In so doing, a “collection of improvement projects” are underway at Fort Wilderness aimed at enhancing the guest experience, including proposed pool and walking trail improvements.

Work on the Disney Vacation Club cabins has now started, and the first phase of cabins has already been installed. These cabins are now open, but work continues. Construction impact will be minimal, as the cabins are pre-fabricated off-site and installed unit-by-unit, not built on location. This will occur loop by loop and should be finished by April 2025.

Additionally, due to construction at the Campsites at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort, horseback riding is temporarily unavailable through November 2024. Guests may explore the many other recreational activities available, including pony, carriage and wagon rides at Tri-Circle-D Ranch, as well as archery, fishing and bike, canoe and kayak rentals.

Grand Floridian Resort & Spa – Disney Vacation Club overhauled the Big Pine Key building of hotel rooms at Walt Disney World’s flagship resort. This building has since reopened and the new rooms have debuted–see Grand New Rooms at Walt Disney World’s Flagship Resort for a look inside.

These reimagined rooms have since debuted on the regular resort side of the Grand Floridian, and all of the outlying buildings are now finished. Crews have now moved into the main lobby, which is being done in phases…but has been on pause for the last several months. How long the lobby will take is anyone’s guess–it really depends upon how involved the project is. There’s also the possibility that the project has been put on indefinite hold, and won’t be done at all.

We’re also guessing that the Grand Floridian Tea Room will not return until after the reimagining is finished. In a logical and ideal world, those venues would be reimagined alongside the lobby, and open in time for Christmas 2024. At present, there’s no indication that’s the intent–no construction activity has been observed in or around either.

Grand Floridian will receive a substantial overhaul with “Enchanted Gardens” as the unifying visual style. The scope and scale are not yet known, but the most likely scenario is the main lobby receiving an aesthetic and new carpet comparable to the smaller outlying buildings.

Polynesian Village Resort (UPDATED + EXPANDED)  – Walt Disney World is building a new DVC tower at Polynesian Village Resort between the existing Polynesian longhouses and Wedding Pavilion, near the Grand Floridian.

In light of this, Walt Disney World’s official site added this message as of mid-2024: Construction and Refurbishments Through 2026.

We’re preparing for the proposed expansion of Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort and Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows. Construction is underway. Additionally, select portions of the Resort hotel are undergoing refurbishment. Now through 2026, you may see and hear construction and refurbishment work during daytime hours. The ongoing enhancements may impact views of the theme park and other surrounding areas. To minimize disruptions during your stay, activities that may create noise will begin no earlier than 9:00 AM. Refurbishment work is subject to change due to operational needs or weather conditions.

The massive update here is that this message has changed from being through 2024 to through 2026. The new Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows will open on December 17, 2024–so the work in 2025 and 2026 is not for that.

Walt Disney World filed permits for a new entrance to the Polynesian (which would also impact the parking lot and bus loop), and there’s major work being done to re-route and expand Floridian Way, so that could be what’s referenced for the construction and refurbishments through 2026. We’re skeptical of that, though.

The Grand Floridian will also be impacted (albeit to a lesser extent) by the Floridian Way project, and it doesn’t have a similar note about work through 2026. Not only that, but I don’t recall a time when road work ever triggered a construction notice.

In any case, it remains to be seen whether this is simply road work, or if there are additional plans to refresh and reimagine Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. Neither would surprise us. Even though the Poly was redone relatively recently, the resort infrastructure still cannot handle the crowds. That’s only likely to worsen with the opening of the Island Tower. Either way, we’ll keep you posted.

yacht club pool closed

While the 2025-2026 construction impacts are to be determined, if you’re staying at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort anytime in 2024, we’d recommend requesting a room that is not  in the Aotearoa, Fiji, or Tuvalu longhouses. Those buildings are adjacent to the construction site, and the only ones that should be impacted in any material way. The DVC tower construction is visible from other locations in the resort, but the impact is otherwise minor.

Actually, we recommend avoiding the Polynesian completely for the next year. As explained in Worst Hotels at Walt Disney World for 2024 , the construction impact will be ongoing and it’s likely that smaller projects will be undertaken in addition to what’s already been announced to prepare the resort infrastructure for the tower and its added DVC guests.

Prior to this tower, work wrapped up on the Great Ceremonial House, porte-cochère, new monorail station, and gardens. Room refurbishments were also part of the Poly’s overhaul and those are now finished. See our Review, Photos & Video: New Moana Rooms at Polynesian Village Resort for a tour and thoughts on the changes from our most recent hotel stay.

Pop Century (NEW)  – From now through September 29, 2024, the Everything POP Food Court will be under refurbishment, but will remain open for your convenience. During this time, guests will need to use Mobile Order in the My Disney Experience app to order food and drinks. Guests should please be prepared to utilize alternate entrances to the food court. Dining room seating may be limited.

This doesn’t strike us as a make-or-break refurbishment, especially since you’ll still be able to use Mobile Order, meaning the kitchen will be open. Additionally, there’s a decent amount of outdoor seating at Pop Century in addition to whatever will be available in the dining room. With that said, this is the hottest and rainiest time of year at Walt Disney World, so dining outdoors is suboptimal. Moreover, Everything POP Food Court usually doesn’t have its dinner specials or best items available via Mobile Order for whatever reason, so here’s hoping that changes during this refurbishment.

Also note that Walt Disney World has been giving guests the option of switching to one of the All Stars, if you so desire. You might also be able to change to Art of Animation or Caribbean Beach, but that might require paying the difference. Personally, I’d just stick with Pop Century, but to each their own.

Port Orleans French Quarter (NEW) – Now through November 2024, some guest rooms at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter will be under refurbishment. Guests may see or hear construction work during daytime hours.

It’s anticipated that this is a two-phase hard goods room reimagining, with the second set of rooms to be redone after the busy holiday season. The first sets of buildings are now finished, and they’ve been nicely modernized. Expect Riverside to be next up in 2025 or 2026, especially since the last room refurbishment there was never finished (it was interrupted by the COVID closure).

Additionally, the Scat Cat’s Café will be closed for refurbishment from September 23 to mid-October 2024. During this time, Mickey-shaped beignets, specialty beignets and specialty coffees will be available at Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory. This is a relatively inconsequential closure, and there should be close to 100% overlap between what was served at Scat Cat’s and what will be available at Sassagoula Floatworks & Food Factory.

yacht club pool closed

Wilderness Lodge (NEW)  – Officially, there’s only one current project at Wilderness Lodge: exterior refurbishment work. During this time, guests may see and hear construction work during daytime hours. It’s unknown when this will end.

Unofficially, there’s much more on the horizon. This is the first phase of a lengthy project, the details of which are still taking shape. Unfortunately, we don’t know specifics of anything else, as Walt Disney World hasn’t made any official announcements, but they have filed construction permits for additional work. Based on those, it appears there’s also a Wilderness Lodge room refurbishment in the main building that’ll last through December 2026 .

Perhaps more significantly, another construction permit signals a resumption of the shelved mixed-use resort located on the former River Country site between Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness . That will be less impactful to guests staying at Wilderness Lodge, but there will be audible and visible construction from the Boulder Ridge side of the resort, especially.

yacht club pool closed

Yacht Club Resort (NEW) – From January 2025 through May 2025, some guest rooms at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort will be under refurbishment. Guests may see or hear construction work during daytime hours. Most resort hotel amenities will remain available.

Like with French Quarter, this room refurbishment is interesting for a few reasons. First, Yacht Club’s “new” rooms (air quotes) aren’t really that old and–unlike overhauls completed before then–have held up really well. So either it’s time for another soft goods refurbishment or Walt Disney World is making an as-yet unannounced change. My money is on the former–it’s about time for a refresh.

Hi, Heading down to Pop on 10/1, any word on how the refurbishment are going? We are hoping that they will be finished, hearing that the Movies food court is still being worked on. Thanks!

' src=

Thank you for keeping us all updated on all of the goings-on at WDW! We were just at Fort Wilderness a few weeks ago and can verify that the new DVC cabins are decidedly NOT being pre-fabricated offsite and that mulitple cabins are in the process of being built ONSITE and it is very busy/loud (though it shouldn’t affect campers too much as it isn’t in the same part of the campground.)

' src=

Hi Tom! I’ve booked at Beach Club for June 29th through July 6th. I received an email stating that the pool would be closed during my stay. Do you think that this was an automatically generated email simply because my reservation begins in June or do you think it is possible that they are expecting the pool refurbishment to extend into Fourth of July week? We’re ok with the pool being closed on June 29th and 30th but would hate to have it closed all week. Thanks for your imput!

' src=

I wish they would add a floating shelf for the Beach Club Villas on that one side of the bed. I would at least give it something. Plus they still need to fix the drawer space. I guess it is a matter of what they THINK it needs.

' src=

Hi Tom We are staying at Boulder Ridge in December. Do you expect construction work on the new project nearby to begin by then? Wondering if we should switch to the main building to avoid construction noise ruining the ambiance

' src=

It’s really difficult to say. My guess is that it’ll take some time to ramp up once it is announced–and that hasn’t happened yet.

If it were me, I’d stick with Boulder Ridge for now–I wouldn’t be too worried just yet. But I’d also pay attention the next month or so and see how quickly work gets moving (if it does).

' src=

Do you think the Art of Animation family suites will be updated soon?

I’m considering a stay here with our family of five. My youngest is a big Cars fan and the outdoor area looks amazing. The Nemo pool looks so fun as well.

Some guests online are saying that the family suites are a bit dated. When was the last refurb?

In the past, we’ve been able to stay in the 5th sleeper rooms, but as my kids are getting older the family suites seem more appealing. The price is a bit high especially if they haven’t been updated in a while.

I appreciate your thoughts!

Thanks, Jenn

' src=

Boo. I’m booked at the new Poly Tower in April 2025. I was hoping the resort would be done with construction by then (wishful thinking haha). It’s hard to pick a deluxe resort without construction for 2025, especially around the Magic Kingdom. I’m sure it will all be wonderful when finished but I’m wondering if it will be perpetual updates for the time being and picking which is the least impactful.

' src=

wow, we are going sept 11th to 19th. haven’t gotten an email yet about pop century food court refurb. do you think not all guests will be notified or offered something else?

' src=

We were notified by email a few months after booking that Pop Century food court will be closed during our stay, September 19 – 30th, and we were not offered to switch to any other accommodations. I wrote back to WDW about this notice expressing my concern that I have a food allergy and because of this allergy I preferred ordering in person so that my allergy can be addressed with the chef on site and my food order handled accordingly as has been done during our stays in the past. I also expressed concern that there was not a lot of selections offered on the mobile order app and that there was no way to add or request alterations to items due to my allergy. They responded back to me that although food stations would be closed someone would be available at the food court who could address my concerns regarding my allergy. They also advised me that during our stay/ the refurbishment of the food court the drink station would remain open and seating areas would still be available in the food court area. I was not offered any alternative accommodations. I paid extra for a preferred room to be closer to the food court. Very disappointed right now. I was really looking forward to having fresh made “egg free” waffles with berries and bacon for breakfast, a big treat for me that I’ve had at the Value Resorts on many past WDW vacations. We’ll see what happens when we get there, but right now Im afraid it looks like all I might be able get for breakfast at Pop Century on the Mobile App for the 11 days were there is yogurt. I’ve never used the mobile app there before but when I looked up the menu offered on the app for Pop Century it does not look very good. I tried looking to see if there were any other Value Resorts with availability that I could try to switch our stay over to, but they’re all booked up for our dates, and according to this article at least the All Star Movies resort is also undergoing food court refurbishment, possibly all the others as well.

' src=

We have just been told POP Century will have the food court refurb 29july to 30 September this year been offered all stars as alternative! I’m looking at Caribbean beach or Coronado springs any thoughts? Thanks

' src=

Hey Sue, I don’t know the members of your party but Coronado Springs wasn’t very “Disney” compared to other resorts. I have stayed Poly, AKL, and some AS for reference.

' src=

Hey Tom! We are staying at Pop in Late July. I’m hearing where people staying at pop are getting emails saying that the Food Court will close for refurb and be Mobile Order only. People are getting emails that are staying in June and people are getting emails that are staying in Sept. Have you heard of anything?

Just had out email the food court will be closed 29 July to 30 September,

' src=

Tom We are staying at French Quarter later in October this year. Do you think we should request a room that is already refurbished? Or do you think things should be winding down by then given the time frame they gave?

' src=

hi i have same question as we are booked at Fr Qtr for Nov17-24th and i just found out there is construction AGAIN,….last trip the pool was closed for reno now rooms ……I wish was told that rooms will be reno an if i could also have choice of new room….

' src=

Hi, Tom!!! We are booked at PO Riverside in July. We have a 5th sleeper pet friendly room booked…I know that can be pretty much anywhere on the Alligator Bayou side…any recommendations to ensure that we get a room that has been refurbished? The biggest concern for us will be the bedding…hubby and I both have some back issues!! Thanks in Advance. Hope you are living your best lives in Tokyo!!

We just returned from Disney Port Orleans Riverside. We had a standard view (building 14) and it was refurbished. Plus close to the food and pool. Hope that helps!

What about BLT? Or is that too far ahead at this point? Good to know about the Skyliner as we were going to book Pop for our late January trip specifically for that!

' src=

I believe BLT is Sept 2024 – Sept 2025.

According to folks on the disboards who have been at Fort Wilderness recently, the cabins are not actually prefabricated as expected and they are being built (or at least put together) on site.

' src=

Staying at the GF in a few weeks…are the main building guest rooms open? Any update on the lobby construction? I think I read that the rooms have all been renovated, but the pictures on their website show a mix of old/new rooms. I definitely prefer a renovated room!

' src=

What do you expect the impact of Bay Lake Tower work to be on guests staying at the Contemporary in 2025? Would you recommend avoiding Contemporary during BLT reno? Most likely would be staying in the garden wing.

' src=

Maybe anecdotal but many years ago we were at BLT while some work was being done. Unfortunately for us, the bridge was unavailable along with some elevators. We had to take the elevator down to the main level, walk across, and go up the escalator (I believe – it was around 10 years ago). Our particular room was FAR from the available elevators.

What I remember most about that trip was the beads of sweat on my forehead walking between buildings and how exhausted I was lugging groceries from the market to our room lol.

With that said, we still had a great time and are working on becoming BLT owners – but that’s also because of the pending refurb!

' src=

It would be really nice to have those Kidani rooms updated! Shouldn’t they be next?

' src=

Thanks for the awesome newsletter. Just one comment: I think Disney recently extended the Beach Club pool closure to be January to June (was January to May).

You’re right–my bad!

Sarah even reminded me to update that and I still glossed right over it. Thanks for (another) reminder!

' src=

Regarding yacht club like Tom said I thought the rooms were updated and great. The halls, elevators and common areas were rough in 2023 so hopefully that is part of this refurb. Great hotel that needs to be brought back to its glory. And move the globe back where it belongs!

' src=

hey tom, what would be your advice if budget is somewhat a consideration. book 4 nights in march at a disney value hotel, or about 100 dollars more a night, and stay at sapphire falls? (of which i have done in the past at sapphire falls, and loved it)

Disney Confirms 5 Month Shut Down in 2025, Hidden Notice Alerts Guests

in Walt Disney World

An entrance sign to walt disney world, featuring a large blue banner with the park's name in stylized white lettering, flanked by flags, under a clear blue sky with fluffy clouds.

One of Disney’s most popular resorts is about to undergo quite a large closure, and many guests do not know about it yet.

disney's yacht club

At Walt Disney World Resort, there are over 25 resorts for guests to choose from when they are coming to the most magical place on earth, and all of them fall into different tiered categories for different price points.

For example, if you are not looking to spend an exorbitant amount of money on your hotel, the value resorts would be perfect for you. These are resorts like Disney’s Pop Century Resort or the All-Star Resorts. These hotels are simple in terms of room layout, but with recent refurbishments, they have the perfect sleek look with that magical touch of Disney.

Moderate resorts like Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort kick things up a notch with more in-depth theming in the rooms, as well as around the resorts.

Then, the deluxe-level resorts are the highest-cost hotels at Disney, like the Grand Floridian or Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. These rooms and the overall grounds of the hotel are meant to transport you into different spaces with detailed theming. These are also the hotels that guests stay in when they purchase from DVC (Disney Vacation Club).

Since the deluxe-level hotels cost the most, it is undoubtedly upsetting when you find out that there will be a ton of construction at your hotel during your stay, which can possibly ruin bits of the magic for you.

Stormalong Bay Pool Yacht Club

Recently, we learned that at Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resort, Stormalong Bay and Shipwreck Pool, the most coveted pools on Disney property, will undergo a lengthy refurbishment in 2025.

As Disney noted:

“From January 2025 through June 2025, Stormalong Bay and Shipwreck Pool at Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts will be closed for routine maintenance. Guests may see or hear construction work during daytime hours. During this time, Guests are welcome to swim at the Tidal, Admiral and Dunes Cove leisure pools.”

As a Disney World local, I would have to say that while Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resort does have a great location as it is in walking distance to EPCOT, the pool with its lazy river, sand bottom, and impeccable theming would be the main reason that I would want to book a room at the resort, so this multi-month closure that extends into the summer has likely caused some guests to rethink where they want to stay on their 2025 vacation.

Now, we have confirmed that the construction will not stop there.

Disney's Yacht Club Room

During nearly the same period, the Yacht Club side of the hotel will also undergo a room renovation. This means that there will be added construction, noise, and fewer rooms available. Disney’s website states, “From January through May 2025, some Guest rooms at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort will be under refurbishment. While Guests may see or hear construction work during daytime hours, most Resort hotel amenities will remain available.”

Knowing that Yacht Club will be filled with construction and the pool will not be available for the first half of 2025 makes the deluxe location a lot less appealing. The hotel’s price point is still around $600 per night, which is comparable to what the resort is currently charging, which bounces between $600 and $700 per night without any closures or construction.

yacht club lobby

Disney’s Contemporary Resort will also be shutting down many of their rooms on the Bay Lake side of the resort in 2025 for a refurbishment as well.

We do not yet know what the rooms will look like at the Yacht Club once they are refurbished, but Disney’s BoardWalk Inn did just get its own room refurbishment, just steps from the Yacht Club. The refurbishment has actually gotten quite a bit of flack from fans who think that the new modern, clean look is comparable to a Hilton or Marriott room, which lacks the theming that Disney is known for.

Disney has been outsourcing a lot of these refurbishment projects to the same teams who work out of the new resorts in Las Vegas instead of using Imagineering, which has been shown via the new modern aesthetic that the hotels are bringing in.

Walt Disney World Revamps and New Experiences Coming in 2024 and Beyond

Get ready for a whirlwind of exciting changes at Walt Disney World Resort! The next several months of 2024 and the whispers of future developments promise thrilling updates for theme park enthusiasts.

First up, EPCOT fans can gear up for the grand opening of CommuniCore Hall & Plaza this June, with a new Encanto (2021) show debuting on the new stage, as well.

Magical performance under a festive canopy: a vibrant scene from Disney's 'Encanto' where characters come together to enjoy music and celebration in a warmly lit, colorful setting adorned with flowers and lights.

This brand-new area is sure to become a hub of activity and exploration next to the World Celebration Gardens.

Over at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the beloved Animation Courtyard theater is currently undergoing a refurbishment. This exciting renovation paves the way for the debut of a refreshed show, “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure,” which is set to premiere this fall.

Magic Kingdom also holds the potential for some exciting news. With hints of a major expansion project near Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, fans are eagerly awaiting official announcements to see what magic this area has in store.

Voyage of the Little Mermaid entrance

Disney recently unveiled a $60 billion investment plan for the coming years, setting hearts racing with anticipation for future developments that Disney CEO Bob Iger has promised will come with expansions and higher capacity in the theme parks. With Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opening its doors in 2024, speculation is high for a potential late-2025 reveal coming in August.

Animal Kingdom is also poised for a change. The beloved “It’s Tough to be a Bug!” show is expected to close its curtains later in 2024. However, fear not, animal enthusiasts! A brand new Zootopia -themed show is slated to take its place, likely by 2025, promising a fresh and exciting experience.

EPCOT’s Test Track is also undergoing a significant overhaul. This iconic attraction will be revamped for a whole new generation of thrill seekers, ensuring an unforgettable experience for all. One of the most significant changes on the horizon is the potential transformation of DinoLand U.S.A. This area is expected to be reimagined into a brand new Tropical Americas land, featuring beloved characters and stories from Indiana Jones, Coco (2017), and Encanto.

Mickey and friends inside of Disney's Animal Kingdom Park.

Now that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District (CFTOD), Disney’s governing district, have settled their lawsuits, there is more room for the state and theme park to work together to get permits and changes approved for the Walt Disney World Resort.

Walt Disney World’s governing board meeting returned to normalcy on Wednesday, offering a stark contrast to the eventful gatherings of the past year.

Gone were the typical hallmarks of a heated municipal meeting – fiery speeches from the chairperson, calls for resignations of board members appointed by Governor DeSantis, and the back-and-forth exchanges that often dominate such forums.

Instead, this session focused on the practicalities of park operations. Board members unanimously approved contracts for essential infrastructure projects, proving the two are on the way to mending the once feud-filled relationship.

Would you want to stay at a Disney resort that is under construction?

NEWS: Closure EXTENDED for the Best Pool in Disney World

By Myranda Juarez 5 Comments

One of Disney World’s most popular hotel pools is going to be CLOSED for longer than we originally thought.

Stormalong Bay at Disney’s Beach Club

Deciding on the right Disney World hotel to call home during your visit can be tricky, especially if you know one of your favorite hotel features is closed for refurbishment . If you were hoping to dip your toes into the sand and take a glide along the lazy river at one of Disney World’s most sought-after hotel pools , you’ll want to take notice of this upcoming closure and recent extension!

If you’ve made a reservation at Disney World’s Beach Club or Yacht Club Resort solely to visit their incredible pool area, we’ve got some sobering news to share. Just recently, Disney announced that the 2025 refurbishment at Stormalong Bay is going to be extended through June.

yacht club pool closed

This pool area is shared between Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resorts and is a high point for those looking to book a stay there as hotel guests. While we’re sure many people were hoping that the refurbishment could stick to the originally outlined timeline between January and May, it seems that Disney is now anticipating needing some extra time with the refurbishment.

Typically, when pool areas are refurbished, the updates can range from minor to major upgrades like draining the pool area, repainting and touching up walls and decor, and even replacing pool deck tables and chairs.

Pool Construction

We’re hoping that the latest we’ll see this refurbishment continue for this hotel will be through June but as we’ve just seen, that is always subject to change at any time.

Stormalong Bay is a super popular pool in Disney World. In fact, it’s more of a miniature water park, with 3 acres of “aquatic fun.” There’s a sand-bottomed pool, a life-sized shipwreck replica, a 230-foot-long waterslide, a lazy river, and three whirlpool spas.

Normally, I’d say it wouldn’t bother me as I actually don’t like that pool. Too crowded for me. However, I could imagine with the main pool closed the smaller pools are going to be jam packed. I would switch to BWI or over to dolphin.

I received this pool closure notice AFTER I confirmed my reservation. My wife and I have been planning this vacation for over a year for when my youngest granddaughter turned 5. We have stayed at the Beach Club before and have explained how much fun the Stormalong Bay pool experience was and our weeklong stay was so much fun. Now I have to tell her that there is just a regular pool. Very disappointing for her, and her big sister, who was 5 the last time we stayed. and for my wife and myself. I was thinking of cancelling but don’t want to break her heart. She was so looking forward to the biddy bobidi boo princess make up.

Wood Nymph said: I have some information about the boat to Hollywood Studio. They are currently running four boats to DHS, starting at 8am for a 9am park opening. (We saw all four at once). One boat sits at Boardwalk, one at Yacht Club and one at Swan/Dolphin. The fourth boat comes in from the Epcot side of the lake and goes to the BW after the first boat leaves, then YC, then S/D, then DHS. We crossed the bridge between the Yacht Club and S/D at 8:08am and the fourth boat was heading to the Yacht Club. The first three boats unloaded at DHS very quickly. The fourth boat got to the DHS boat dock just about the same time as we got to the temperature check point, around 8:26am. Click to expand...

The guest returned about 20 minutes later. The barking stopped and in the next couple of days we heard one short yip. Part of the dog agreement is that if the dog is noisy the guest must return within 30 minutes. If the dog will not be quiet it must be moved to the kennel. There is a dog walking area. As far as masks: the only person we saw with a mask was the CM walking around taking drink orders (not sure if he was also taking food orders but we assumed he was....). We looked around and did not see any guests wearing a mask once inside the pool area and situated on a chair or at a table. We did see a mask flying around the pool deck and that brings up the issue of people wearing them to the pool and then losing them or the wind taking them away once at the pool. We saw some creative ways to store masks for sure, lol, with one family attaching their masks to their flip flops while laying in chairs. Click to expand...

sarmat1 said: To enter the line for the Jib slide, you have to actually go out of the pool area entirely. Once on the slide, you go under not 1, but 2 waterfalls that will definitely dump water on your head. The slide ultimately feeds into 4 feet of water and you come down with such force that you will go under water (unless wearing a vest). The exiting part of the slide is in a roped off area of the pool and a lifeguard will be sitting there. That guard will likely keep others out of the roped off area, so parents are not allowed to "catch" their children coming off. Depending on how adventurous your kids are, you might want to go with them the first time. The kiddie area of SAB with the little beach area to play on is on the complete other side of where the slide ends. You'll need to determine your comfort level with older kids going on the slide (then exiting the pool area to go on again and again) if you're with a younger child in the kiddie area. That's the one thing I didn't like about SAB. It's so big, it can become difficult to supervise all of your different age kids simultaneously with the many different sections. Maybe this is an issue for others, maybe not, but I thought it deserved mentioning. Click to expand...
beebeeryan said: With regards to the Jib slide and younger kids...if you stand around where the slide comes out you can walk with them to the pathway where they cross over and watch them go up then walk back to the pool. You'll make it back well before they get down, since there are always at least a few people in line and it's a long way down. Also if you go before your child, you could wait towards the rope for them, the lifeguard may or may not usher you away quickly. Click to expand...

Cluelyss said: My daughter just did it yesterday and loved every minute of it! There were 8 in her class (not sure if it was “full” but was the perfect size for plenty of individual instruction). Kids ranged in ages from probably 6-12 and should be a decent swimmer as the fins are not easy to maneuver! They got to do several “tricks” like swimming through hoops and you have the option at the end to purchase (or order) your own tail. The class takes place in the pirate slide pool, which was was the only downfall, as I think it would have been better for them to have more room to move around. At the end they had “free swim” and it was a bit crowded with 8 tails swimming about! We pre-booked not long after the class was announced. I’m sure it will be based on the class on any given day what the age range will be, but I’d assume she’d be on the older end? We didn’t purchase a tail there but brought home info to order online (they provide a $10 off discount code at the class) and prices range from $109-119 on their website. Click to expand...

The price was pretty reasonable (it depended on what you wanted to paint, but I think my mug was around $15?), they provide all the materials you need, and there was no time limit (which was good for me because I like to take my time with things). The only thing to note is that if you do the ceramics, they have to put it in the kiln, so it won't be available for a day or two, so try and do it earlier in the week. We were on the road side this year (Rm 352) and there different layouts on the other floors. Wood Nymph said: If you do online check in and state an arrival time then your entitlements (tickets, dining plan, etc) become active at that time. You can go to a park, use dining credits, etc. Sometimes there is a problem with the reservation that requires someone to go to the front desk. An example would be a credit card glitch. If you don't receive a direct to room text before you arrive at the resort then you will have to physically check in before you can access SAB. But most often you will receive a direct to room text which will let you know the status of your room, i.e. ready or not. If you receive the direct to room text then you are all checked in and don't have to go to the front desk unless you want to talk to them about something. The problem is that you won't know whether you will be able to skip the front desk until your arrival day. Click to expand...

Boski said: So I'm going to try an experiment here. I shot these using my remote shutter through the Nikon app. When I do that it also saves the images (as jpegs) to my phone and then my phone automatically uploads to Google Photos. I messed around at the airport on the way home and created a nice little animation with it using the jpegs so I'm going to try and post that. I did edit the RAW files so these aren't my "edits", and some of the shots didn't turn out great, but the animation was pretty cool and should give you a good idea of what to expect. Lets see if I can pull this off. Click to expand...

Other times we've had to put gallon jugs on their side to fit, depending on exactly where the compressor is and how the shelves sit. Click to expand...
