Dominator s.r.l. history.

The DOMINATOR s.r.l. Shipyard in Fano, Italia, was spawned from the genius of Sr. Giandato Sigismondi, the designer and innovator of the heralded and most innovative model line of its time, the Italian line MochiCraft of the late 20th century.

The MochiCraft shipyard in Fano, Italia, sold to Norberto Ferretti and the Ferretti Group in 1998, leaving Sr. Sigismondi the foresight and financial capability by and with under the guidance of principals Sr. Sigismondi, with Peter Zuber, former Formula ONE Driver, the capable formerly MOCHI staff of techs, captains, and office personnel, including supporter Team “Kiki” Rosburg, Forumla ONE Racing Champion, and the design team Nuvolari & Lenerd of Milan, put together the team to make the yachtworld take notice.

Opening of the first production plant partnering with Milan design team of Nuvolari/Lenerd Design Studio and the Formula ONE support team to create the most innovative new megayacht design for the new Millenium and beyond.  Needless to say, the fastest developing megayacht series on the water at that critical time in the develpment.  I know, I was there.

For some very strict history in the development on a world stage of this incredible shipyard to the stars, with this magic combo of design, experience, and lust for speed and quality, to open DOMINATOR s.r.l. in March 2000.

• – July 2001 -The launch of our first craft: the DOMINATOR 65,
• – February 2003 – The opening of the DOMINATOR permanent headquarters in Fano, Italia, on the shores of the Adriatic Sea,
• – March 2006 The launch of the first DOMINATOR 620
• – November 2006 – Finishing the model of the hull for the DOMINATOR 29M moving this shipyard at lightening speed from the buying public and demand for their quality in the most modern and efficient motoyachts to hit the world stage to date.

Upon recognizing the quality of this new shipyard, YachtEZ, at that time based in London, UK, with Americas Office in Fort Lauderdale, FL, USA, immediately began importing that original DOMINATOR 65 to USA with our first Vessel sale in 2003, for a 2004 model year:

YachtEZ Import And Export Ltd, became the DOMINATOR Authorized Dealer for the Americas from 2002 to 2014, authorized direct from the founding Italian owners until that original DOMINATOR s.r.l. Shipyard sold to new Austrian Owners from their Italian origins.

For all practical purposes from this accomplished shipyard, now at lightning acceptance the world over:

• October 2007 – The opening of the production site in v/Papiria 92, Fano, and fitting out the DOMINATOR 860 and 29M so as to leave the original shipyard to fabricate and finish the smaller DOMINATOR models.
• On 3 August 2008 – The launch of the first DOMINATOR 780,
• On 1 September 2008 – The launch of the first DOMINATOR 29M,
• March 2009 – Then the worldwide unveiling of the DOMINATOR 29M at the Dubai Boat Show.

Then, not forgetting the foundation models that made this shipyard great, going back to a wider audience:

• – On 2 September 2010 – The launch of the first DOMINATOR 720
• – The shipyard expanding again January 2011 – Opening of the new headquarter and production site in Via Papiria 62.
• – June 2013 – Worldwide Premier of the new DOMINATOR 640 in Venice, Italia.
• – In September 2013 – DOMINATOR 640 wins two Yacht Oscars in Best Layout and Best Interior Design for industry excellence in design and custom shipyard creation and delivery.

Year after year, the DOMINATOR s.r.l. Shipyard excels from other yards of similar size, but never in any comparison are they surpassed in finish and execution.

It was at this juncture that DOMINATOR fully understood their potential and the need to expand their shipyard so that the room to build with their extreme vetted attention to detail could be realized in an environment as dedicated to quality construction in detail as existed in the mind’s eye of the Principals.   The resulting immaculately kept shipyard factory interior became an industry standard for organization and cleanliness, offering the least amount of contamination to their in-house woodworking department for clear gloss and satin finishes, unadulterated with any airborne contaminant or dust… perfection the goal of the DOMINATOR principals and shipyard workers from start to finish, year after year exceeding their own objectives and goals.

The only way to create unique, superior quality yachts is to treat each one as if it were the only boat in production, and as if that boat were your own.

DOMINATOR yachts are solid and extremely unique, and they are all built 100%  in-house at their shipyards, from the glass fibre to the Italian decorum interiors with the finest grain exotic woods crafted in-house, to the laying of the marble and granite. Every craft is hand-finished, and painstaking care is taken over even the smallest detail.

•  Marzo 2009 – Viene presentato in anteprima mondiale al salone di Dubai il Dominator 29M
• Aprile 2010 – Varo del primo Dominator 40M
• January 2011 – Opening of new offices and production facility in Via Papiria 62

Dominator 800 Review: Innovative to the Core

The Dominator 800 shows what the yard is capable of doing when they meet a demanding client. This floating showcase of innovations is jam-packed with advanced technology, keeping the luxury ‘touch and feel’ impression characteristic for Dominator

Italian builder Dominator chose the lovely city of Fano to present their new model this spring. The dashing new Dominator 800, based on the 780 platform, differs from its predecessor in almost every way, and is in every detail representative of the builder’s new philosophy.

Ever since five years ago Dominator got a new ownership structure, they’ve been bending themselves backwards to please the client, offering in addition to mere customizable delights some of the best technical solutions on the market. Dominator 800 shows what the yard is capable of when no limits are set.

Built in carbon composites with laminate lighter by 25% – weighing only 15 tons – the Dominator 800 yacht is sturdy, light, stronger to torsion forces and with lower center of gravity, the thing one can also feel onboard. Powered by Fortjets 4000 double-propeller pods, the 800 is impressively maneuverable, surprisingly frugal with fuel and, since it has no shafts that usually hog a lot of the space, offers bigger, more comfortable cabins.

Still, nothing on the outside reveals this increase in volume and efficiency, and neither does the impressive speed of the yacht, as its propulsion is 5% more efficient than the one traditionally given by the shafts only due to absence of propeller inclination. Dominator also equipped the 800 with the Humphree Interceptor flaps that do wonders for maneuverability and overall performance, as well as allow the owner to save fuel, as the system is capable of memorizing your preferences.

In addition to all these lovely, but to most owners invisible improvements, Dominator 800 offers plenty of other new delights to be seen and enjoyed, the first among them design and aesthetics.

Although the Dominator 800 was designed according to the owner’s wishes, it still bears the designer’s signature: designer Alberto Mancini is definitely one of the aces up Dominator’s sleeve. The owner of the 800 we tested had the final say in interior design, while his long-time skipper suggested several technical solutions – and they both got what they wanted.

The client was especially keen on having Minotti sofas in the salon made especially for him, and Botticino marble in all the bathrooms, all the cabins made in soft colors and soft lighting. The salon is large and connected to the galley, without visible obstacles. It is known that when it comes to interior design,

Dominator is happy to meet their clients’ wishes and as they say, the sky is the limit – and the yard will find and use any fabric, material, or anything else the clients wants to see on their yacht. But Mancini’s work is perhaps most obvious on the lower deck, where cabins are not only large and comfortable, but beautiful, with no cramming or makeshift solutions.

The interior is, as expected, stylish and elegant, rather understated. The real luxury, however, is again invisible – no matter the speed, all cabins and spaces enjoy perfect silence, with low vibrations or noise coming from the engine room.

High-end motor yacht

During our sea trial we confirmed our opinion of the Dominator 800 as a high-end motor yacht. Fast (the yacht we tested reached 34 knots of speed), maneuverable, swift in turns the latest yacht from Dominator is a wonderful display of possibilities of modern yacht-building. With this model, the builders from Fano prove themselves worthy of their spot in the probably most popular segment of yachts, and perhaps even more importantly, ready to accommodate all their clients’ wishes.

In this way, the Dominator yachts are personalized and special, making their owners part of the family. What more can we say, but good job and best of luck in future endeavors.

Wild Water: test driving Dominator’s 10m drama queen

Dominator Yachts ' new breed of boat is a superyacht in sheep’s clothing, says Katia Damborsky …

I’m enjoying the final dish of an elaborate seven-course candlelit meal in Porto Novi, Montenegro’s luxury marina and resort, when a hush falls over the tables and our attention is diverted to the water. Suspenseful music fills the warm air and a trio of dancers with lit torches begin to perform a fire dance to a backdrop of flashing lights and giant sparklers. 

Dominator’s new 10.5-metre Midi Ilumen M35 glides into view with another dancer poised on the prow and a projection screened onto the side of the hull. This is the reason I am here in Montenegro, but this isn’t my first time seeing the boat; earlier in the day it was revealed in a similarly dramatic scenario with booming music, live violinists, and dancers bearing smoke sticks in the exclusive setting of Porto Novi’s One&Only villas.

The next day is the sea trial, and I arrive on the dock after breakfast with the cynical part of me wondering if all the fanfare is a distraction. Am I being bribed into writing nice things by fireworks, five-star hotel hotels and themed cocktails with the Dominator logo dusted into the foam? But the moment I step on board and take a proper look at Dominator’s new offering, the cynicism melts away with the realisation that the boat has the same OTT style as the big reveal.

The first thing you notice about the new Ilumen is, if you see it from a distance, it looks like a superyacht. Dominator managing partner, Angela Pernsteiner is happy with this feedback. “This is what we were aiming for,” she explains. “[Some of] our clients are accustomed to owning big yachts,” so the Ilumen 35M needs to feel like an “extension” of that. She envisions its use as a superyacht tender or as a dayboat.

The model certainly doesn’t feel out of place in the Bay of Kotor, where the sea trial is taking place. In fact, her agility makes her ideally suited to a bay like this one, where the coasts are studded with umbrella-lined beach clubs and dreamy coves. Gleaming white superyachts lumber in and out of the bay, but the Midi Ilumen 35 can gracefully dart around them, putting her 48-knot top speed to the test. I take over the wheel for a bit and we zip around, but I’m happy to give up the helm for the sunpads on the back, where I can watch the double 300hp engines leave a frothy trail in our wake.

Headquartered in Austria and constructing in Italy, Dominator traditionally builds boats between 24 and 38 metres and the new Midi Ilumen 35 is a new breed for them. The 28-metre Ilumen 28M is one of its most popular lines, and the brand has neatly transferred those elements – like the distinctive rollbar, sharp A-pillars and angular windscreen - into its latest model.

Studio Agon’s Lorenzo Berselli and NavalHEAD’s Andrea Agrusta are behind the yacht’s design and naval architecture respectively. The team didn’t let the yacht’s 10.5-metre LOA deter them from packing all the big-boat hallmarks into the Midi Ilumen 35, though. At the forward part of the boat, a sliding glass hatch leads through to a cabin that can be configured as either a berth or a saloon, with a smart glass screen that separates a head and shower. A skylight ensures the yacht lives up to the Ilumen name, and the bathroom is clad in Astana Grey marble with hints of orange that tie into the yacht’s orange theme.

On the port side of the cabin is the galley set-up which, remarkably, manages to contain a covered sink, coffee maker, storage space and counter space for basic cooking and food prep. “I have sailing yacht experience,” says Agrusta when I marvel at how much has been packed into this tight footprint. In his mind, every yachting project that he works on should be treated with the same approach to quality, design and amenities. “It’s about how you use the cards that you have on the table,” he explains. “We’re not inventing something new here”. 

Up on the deck, the superyacht-y ethos continues with wireless charging pads that blend into the teak and a cleverly integrated barbecue and ice-maker that pop up from below inconspicuous seats. Eight people can be seated around the cockpit dining area, with the table equipped with a rise-and-fall mechanism meaning it can be tucked away to create a more open area.

As we glide around the bay,  Pernsteiner takes the wheel for a little bit. "This level of quality is uncommon in this size segment," she tells me. "In this niche, there are no competitors".  She angles the wheel and we arc effortlessly around a passing superyacht that measures four times the size of the Midi Ilumen M35. This, Pernsteiner says, with a gesture of her arm, is the competition.

M/Y Zalanka features exterior design by Alberto Mancini Yacht Design and interior design by Luca Catino Architect. The interiors from Luca Catino contrast natural Amara Ebony with light oak for a modern and sophisticated monochrome interior enhanced by the patterning in the natural grains. Back-lit white onyx and taupe Silk Georgette marble enhance the clean and calming atmosphere throughout the guest areas.

On the main deck you will find the saloon, dinner area, galley kitchen, one toilet and the master bedroom with on suite bathroom and sofa area. The master cabin has front access to the bow relax area directly. On the lower deck are 4 other cabins. 2 VIP cabin with on suite bathroom , 1 guest cabin with its bathroom and a studio that can be transformed into a cabin if necessary with its toilet. On the flybridge there is a jacuzzi that can accomodate 4 people with its sundeck, an outside dinner table and bar where you can enjoy the evening stars thanks to the sliding rooftop.

The garage of M/Y ZALNKA is equipped with 1 williams SportJet 395 and 1 Seadoo Spark Jetski that are launched in water with the crane located inside the garage. The garage also offers 2 seabobs. The lower deck is fitted with a transom door that folds out to create a swim platform beside the water.

The boat has always been used by the owner for a period of 4/6 months a year and has never been chartered.

The award winning 27.35m/89'9" motor yacht 'Zalanka' was built by Dominator in Italy at their Fano shipyard. Her interior is styled by design house Luca Catino and she was completed in 2018. This luxury vessel's exterior design is the work of Alberto Mancini.

Guest Accommodation

Zalanka has been designed to comfortably accommodate up to 10 guests in 5 suites comprising two VIP cabins. She is also capable of carrying up to 4 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience.

Range & Performance

Built with a carbon/epoxy hull and carbon fibre superstructure, with teak decks, she benefits from a semi-displacement hull to provide exceptional seakeeping and impressive speeds. Powered by twin diesel MAN (V8-1200) 8-cylinder 1,200hp engines, she comfortably cruises at 13 knots, reaches a maximum speed of 19 knots with a range of up to 1,500 nautical miles from her 11,800 litre fuel tanks at 10 knots. Her water tanks store around 1,900 Litres of fresh water.

Dominator Yachts

Dominator Yachts have their headquarters in Austria and an office and showroom for their superyachts for sale in Fano, in Italy. Dominator Yachts were founded in 1999 and pride themselves on their shipyard in one of the Italian centres for luxury yachts. They offer the production of boats for sale of up to 35 meters (114.83 feet). The focus at Dominator Yachts is on their interiors which they feel marks them out from their competitors in the field of luxury yachts for sale. Their range of superyachts comprises 6 different designs of yachts for sale. The latest model from Dominator Yachts is the Dominator 62, which is 19.76 meters long and has the capacity for at total load of 12 passengers and crew. The Dominator 68 is 21.10 meters long (69.23 feet) and has a capacity for 6 passengers and 2 crew members. The Dominator 68 can be chartered in Greece and the 6 passengers are accommodated in two double cabins and one twin cabin. The crew members have their own aft cabin and separate toilet. The Dominator 75 is 24 meters long (78.74 feet) and has the capacity for 8 passengers and 2 crew members, and the Dominator 86 motor yachts are 27 meters long (88.58 feet). Details about the Dominator 92 and Dominator 115 are limited at this time, all that is known about these two recent Dominator designed superyachts for sale is that they were built in 2007 and 2008 respectively. Dominator sailing yachts sailing can be seen at the Festival International de la Plaisance de Cannes from 10-15 September 2008.
