RINA CE category A+ / MCA-MGN280

All Dominator yachts are delivered to RINA CE category A+ norms as standard. They are therefore certified to the highest standards of yacht design, construction and commissioning. The Ilumen 28M and upwards can also be provided with commercial registration.

Accessible engine rooms

Forget hot, noisy and oily engine rooms, such a thing does not fit aboard a Dominator yacht. Though you may not spend much time in the engine room each one is immaculate and easy to get to, with the Ilumen range including a control room as seen only in mega yachts.

We don’t cut corners in construction

Dominator yachts are always built to the most exacting standards, using the so-called Sandwich Method where fibreglass is overlaid on both the inner and outer surfaces to create a rigid ‘sandwich’ structure that is far stronger and lighter than a conventional single-wall fibreglass shell.

Built from the best

Traditionally shipyards use Vinylester and a Gelcoat or even just Polyester, which produce unhealthy vapours over time. Rather than save on quality and safety, we use the most expensive resin, Epoxy – the best in terms of strength and lack of emissions.

Cutting edge techniques

We use industry-leading techniques to create a Dominator yacht, with fibreglass that is bundled and stitched rather than woven, so there is no crimp in the yarn. We use full carbon fibre stringers in the hull and Ilumen superstructure for phenomenal strength and lightweight mobility.

Superior sea keeping

The close collaboration between our engineering department and the various handpicked suppliers has led to unparalleled stabilising systems that use a combination of Gyros, Interceptors and Fins together with leading edge hull design to produce unsurpassed performance and comfort at sea.

Optimal insulation

The highest-grade materials are employed to ensure the utmost standards of comfort aboard. This is made possible by detailed measures such as special engine room insulation with D-Bond and perforated tiles, as well as advanced thermal and sound damping insulation with Mascoat.

Headquartered in Austria, motor yacht builder Dominator Yachts builds luxury yachts from 19.75 to 40 metres in length at its shipyard in Fano, Italy. Every Dominator luxury yacht model is created by a team of internationally acclaimed designers, engineers, and Dominator’s manufacturing team. All Dominator luxury yachts feature Italian styling and design and state-of-the-art materials and construction techniques.

History of Dominator

Founded in 1999, luxury yacht builder Dominator began production in March 2000. Its first luxury yacht, the Dominator 65, launched in July, 2001. The Dominator 620 was launched in March 2006. Dominator joined the megayacht ranks when it launched its first 29-metre luxury yacht in September 2008. The shipyard’s largest model, the Dominator 40-metre superyacht, was launched in April 2010. Luxury yacht builder Dominator Yachts places particular emphasis on offering roomy and easily accessible interiors which the shipyard believes sets its products apart from many of its competitors.

Notable Dominator Yachts

Superyacht builder Dominator recently began work on its 26-metre Ilumen . Featuring a high-performance carbon-fibre composite hull, which reduces weight by 25 percent from a standard motor yacht hull, the yacht was designed by yacht designer Alberto Mancini . Dominator’s new 29-metre superyacht has four staterooms, each with ensuite bathroom. The owner’s suite has a side platform that offers access to a private deck.

Dominator s.r.l. history.

The DOMINATOR s.r.l. Shipyard in Fano, Italia, was spawned from the genius of Sr. Giandato Sigismondi, the designer and innovator of the heralded and most innovative model line of its time, the Italian line MochiCraft of the late 20th century.

The MochiCraft shipyard in Fano, Italia, sold to Norberto Ferretti and the Ferretti Group in 1998, leaving Sr. Sigismondi the foresight and financial capability by and with under the guidance of principals Sr. Sigismondi, with Peter Zuber, former Formula ONE Driver, the capable formerly MOCHI staff of techs, captains, and office personnel, including supporter Team “Kiki” Rosburg, Forumla ONE Racing Champion, and the design team Nuvolari & Lenerd of Milan, put together the team to make the yachtworld take notice.

Opening of the first production plant partnering with Milan design team of Nuvolari/Lenerd Design Studio and the Formula ONE support team to create the most innovative new megayacht design for the new Millenium and beyond. Needless to say, the fastest developing megayacht series on the water at that critical time in the develpment. I know, I was there.

For some very strict history in the development on a world stage of this incredible shipyard to the stars, with this magic combo of design, experience, and lust for speed and quality, to open DOMINATOR s.r.l. in March 2000.

– July 2001 -The launch of our first craft: the DOMINATOR 65,
– February 2003 – The opening of the DOMINATOR permanent headquarters in Fano, Italia, on the shores of the Adriatic Sea,
– March 2006 The launch of the first DOMINATOR 620
– November 2006 – Finishing the model of the hull for the DOMINATOR 29M moving this shipyard at lightening speed from the buying public and demand for their quality in the most modern and efficient motoyachts to hit the world stage to date.

Upon recognizing the quality of this new shipyard, YachtEZ, at that time based in London, UK, with Americas Office in Fort Lauderdale, FL, USA, immediately began importing that original DOMINATOR 65 to USA with our first Vessel sale in 2003, for a 2004 model year:

2004 DOMINATOR 65 FLYBRIDGE ON DOCKWISE EXPRESS ON HER WAY TO USA

YachtEZ Import And Export Ltd, became the DOMINATOR Authorized Dealer for the Americas from 2002 to 2014, authorized direct from the founding Italian owners until that original DOMINATOR s.r.l. Shipyard sold to new Austrian Owners from their Italian origins.

For all practical purposes from this accomplished shipyard, now at lightning acceptance the world over:

October 2007 – The opening of the production site in v/Papiria 92, Fano, and fitting out the DOMINATOR 860 and 29M so as to leave the original shipyard to fabricate and finish the smaller DOMINATOR models.
On 3 August 2008 – The launch of the first DOMINATOR 780,
On 1 September 2008 – The launch of the first DOMINATOR 29M,
March 2009 – Then the worldwide unveiling of the DOMINATOR 29M at the Dubai Boat Show.

Then, not forgetting the foundation models that made this shipyard great, going back to a wider audience:

– On 2 September 2010 – The launch of the first DOMINATOR 720
– The shipyard expanding again January 2011 – Opening of the new headquarter and production site in Via Papiria 62.
– June 2013 – Worldwide Premier of the new DOMINATOR 640 in Venice, Italia.
– In September 2013 – DOMINATOR 640 wins two Yacht Oscars in Best Layout and Best Interior Design for industry excellence in design and custom shipyard creation and delivery.

Year after year, the DOMINATOR s.r.l. Shipyard excels from other yards of similar size, but never in any comparison are they surpassed in finish and execution.

It was at this juncture that DOMINATOR fully understood their potential and the need to expand their shipyard so that the room to build with their extreme vetted attention to detail could be realized in an environment as dedicated to quality construction in detail as existed in the mind’s eye of the Principals. The resulting immaculately kept shipyard factory interior became an industry standard for organization and cleanliness, offering the least amount of contamination to their in-house woodworking department for clear gloss and satin finishes, unadulterated with any airborne contaminant or dust… perfection the goal of the DOMINATOR principals and shipyard workers from start to finish, year after year exceeding their own objectives and goals.

The only way to create unique, superior quality yachts is to treat each one as if it were the only boat in production, and as if that boat were your own.

DOMINATOR yachts are solid and extremely unique, and they are all built 100% in-house at their shipyards, from the glass fibre to the Italian decorum interiors with the finest grain exotic woods crafted in-house, to the laying of the marble and granite. Every craft is hand-finished, and painstaking care is taken over even the smallest detail.

Her interior is styled by Italian designer design house Alberto Mancini and she was delivered to her owner in June 2017. This luxury vessel's exterior design is the work of Alberto Mancini.

How did the superyacht Bayesian sink? Experts say weather was just one factor

Divers searching for 6 missing people locate 5 bodies inside wrecked yacht's hull.

A complicated search effort is underway deep beneath the surface of the Mediterranean Sea, off the coast of Italy, where a superyacht sank early Monday during a fierce storm.

Dive crews are attempting to enter the wreck of the Bayesian, a 56-metre long British-flagged luxury vessel, which is sitting in some 50 metres of water near the Sicilian fishing village of Porticello.

Fifteen of the 22 passengers and crew members on board were rescued. Divers searching for six people considered missing, including British businessman Mike Lynch, located five bodies inside the yacht's hull on Wednesday, and retrieved four of them from the water.

Searchers previously recovered the body of Recaldo Thomas, the ship's Canadian-Antiguan cook, in the water not far from where the Bayesian sank.

Questions have emerged about why a boat designed to handle severe weather sank so rapidly and whether or not some of its features could've been a factor in its demise. Maritime experts say investigations may, in time, reveal what led to the disaster.

"There needs to be an investigation as to why this happened, what went wrong and, you know, how to prevent it in the future cases," said Simon Boxall, an oceanographer and senior lecturer at the University of Southampton in England.

How did the bayesian sink so quickly.

Grainy footage from closed-circuit cameras on the shore broadcast on the website of the Giornale di Sicilia newspaper showed the Bayesian's majestic mast just before it disappeared.

Karsten Borner, captain of the Sir Robert Baden Powell, which rescued the survivors who managed to get into a lifeboat, told The Associated Press he was close enough to be able to see the Bayesian as the storm came in.

"A moment later, she was gone," he said.

The survivors told the rescuers they went flat on the water "and were sunk in two minutes."

Boxall said vessels rely on being able to steer and navigate stormy seas, but the Bayesian was anchored and stationary, which likely made it more vulnerable to the storm and, potentially, a waterspout , or mini tornado that creates a whirlwind over the surface of the sea.

He said it was also dark, meaning "you wouldn't see this sort of very unique event coming towards you."

"It's a freak of nature," Boxall said. "I think the fact that so many have survived, so far, is probably a miracle."

Tom Sharpe, a retired Royal Navy commander and defence commentator, told CBC News the weather was likely not the only issue.

He says it's rare that a weather event like this takes down a boat.

"There's nearly always a sequence [of events]," he said in an interview from Guildford, England, explaining that everything from safety protocols to the culture on board the vessel needs to be taken into account.

Was the boat's design part of the problem?

The Bayesian was built in 2008 by Italian luxury yacht maker Perini Navi.

Andrea Ratti, a nautical design professor at Milan Polytechnic, told Reuters that a boat the size of the Bayesian could only sink so rapidly by taking on a huge amount of water.

He suggested that one or more portholes, windows or other openings may have been broken or smashed open by the waterspout, letting in water. There has also been media speculation that a major hatch might have been inadvertently left open.

Reports have also highlighted that the Bayesian featured a 72-metre mast — one of the tallest in the world.

Ratti said an unusually tall mast is not by itself an element of vulnerability in a storm.

A second expert, structural engineer Filippo Mattioni, was also skeptical about the suggestion the boat may have sunk due to a broken mast, which likely would have caused major damage smashing against the hull.

Fire department diver Marco Tilotta told the newspaper Il Messaggero that the wreck was "apparently intact," with "no gashes, no signs of impact." However, only half of the hull is visible to divers.

The Bayesian also had a retractable keel — the fin-like structure under the hull that helps stabilize boats and acts as a counterweight to the mast.

Both Ratti and Mattioni wondered if the yacht had been anchored with the keel up, reducing the vessel's depth under water and making it less stable. Ratti said strong winds might have caused the boat to start oscillating wildly, "like a pendulum," putting exceptional strain on the mast.

Sharpe pointed out that a mast the size of the Bayesian's is designed for a massive sail, and without that sail raised and catching the wind, the gusts likely would've had a negligible impact on the aluminum pole.

He instead suggested the anchor may have played a pivotal role.

"My kind of working assumption is that she was probably a bit further in at anchor, and it's very likely, in these sort of conditions, that her anchor dragged," he said.

In such a situation, he said, a crew is better off steering toward the anchor to stabilize the vessel or raising the anchor and heading out to sea to ride out the storm.

"They might have got caught in that middle ground where they're not on a particularly good anchorage, but the anchor is now controlling the bow of the ship."

What caused the extreme weather.

Although Sharpe says the weather is unlikely the sole cause of the sinking, he notes the Mediterranean isn't the calm sea often pictured in travel brochures.

"It can get pretty nasty," he said.

The type of storm that struck Monday is fuelled by warm water and the Mediterranean is warmer than ever, said Boxall, noting there's been about a three and a half degree increase in the 20-year average temperature.

Climatologists say global warming is making such violent and unexpected tempests more frequent.

Luca Mercalli, president of Italy's meteorological society, said the sea surface temperature around Sicily in the days leading up to the shipwreck was about 30 C.

"This creates an enormous source of energy that contributes to these storms," he told Reuters.

British business tycoon Mike Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter Hannah Lynch were killed after their luxury yacht Bayesian sank during a storm off the coast of Sicily on Monday. On Friday, search divers recovered the seventh and final body from the sunken superyacht, reported The Washington Post .

Cosimo Nicastro, a spokesman for the Italian Coast Guard, confirmed the identity of the victim as Hannah. “I can confirm it to you, the last victim inside the hull has been found,” he said. Mike's trial lawyer Christopher Morvillo, his trial witness Jonathan Bloomer, and three others were also killed in the tragedy.

Hannah Lynch's sister, Esme said that Hannah often burst into my bedroom and lay down with me, adding no matter what, she brought boundless love. "She was endlessly caring, passionately mad, unintentionally hilarious and the most amazing, supportive, and joyful sister and best friend to me," she said.

She had even more love to give endlessly to all her friends and passion to give to her incredible studies and goals, Esme told The Guardian. "She is my little angel, my star."

On behalf of the Lynch family, a spokesperson said they were devastated, in shock, and were being comforted and supported by family and friends. "Their thoughts are with everyone affected by the tragedy. They would like to sincerely thank the Italian coastguard, emergency services and all those who helped in the rescue. Their one request now is that their privacy be respected at this time of unspeakable grief," the statement added.

Jon Mitropoulos-Monk, Hannah Lynch's English professor at Latymer Upper School in West London was all praises for his student. He said he taught Hannah for four years and would remember her for what she taught him "kindness, compassion, and commitment".

She said she had never taught someone who "combined sky-high intellectual ability with warmth and enthusiasm" like Hannah did. She lit up the classroom with her energy, passion for learning, the teacher said about the 18-year-old.

Calling the 18-year-old “one of the best English students in the country”, she told the English daily, “By age 16, she'd read Joyce, Faulkner and Nabokov … She loved literature, learning and life. She was so excited to start studying English at Oxford, a goal she had worked so hard towards."

When she got her place, she sought out every single member of the Latymer upper English department to thank them individually and give them a hug, the teacher added.

Hannah Lynch's friends had nothing but kind words for their friend. The love Hannah had for everything she held dear was passionate and pure, said Katya Lewis, adding her friend had a warm and beautiful soul.

"When I think of Hannah, I think of poetry, sunshine and her beautiful eyes," said Hannah's classmate, Gracie Lea. "She was easy to love: sincere, dedicated, fiercely intelligent and genuinely kind. I'll always remember her smiling."

Not long after the Bayesian sank, fifteen people, including Angela Bacares, Hannah Lynch's mother, were saved. During the preliminary search, Recaldo Thomas, the yacht pilot, was found dead.

The Bayesian, an award-winning superyacht, sank during bad weather off the coast of Sicily in the early hours of Monday.

On Thursday, authorities confirmed divers had found the bodies of British tech tycoon Mike Lynch, Morgan Stanley International boss Jonathan Bloomer, his wife Judy, and one of Mr Lynch's lawyers Chris Morvillo, and his wife Neda.

Recaldo Thomas, the on-board chef, was the first to be confirmed dead earlier this week.

Mr Lynch's wife, Angela Bacares, was rescued along with 14 others - including Charlotte Golunski, a mother who told la Repubblica she held her one-year-old baby above the waves to save her from drowning.

Mr Lynch's 18-year-old daughter Hannah is missing, but believed to be the seventh body recovered from the wreckage on Friday.

The British-flagged 56-metre ship - previously called the Salute - was built in 2008 by Italian shipyard Perini Navi, and refitted in 2020.
