Bigger yachts, 200 jobs coming as Cruisers Yachts expands in Pulaski
PULASKI - Cruisers Yachts will add production lines at its Pulaski plant when it completes a 56,000-square-foot expansion in early 2024.
The expansion will enable Cruisers' Pulaski workforce to build yachts up to 75 feet long and more of them in a more efficient manner. It will also provide the company more space for a variety of operations. Construction began in January, should wrap up in January 2024, and comes about two years after MarineMax Inc. bought Cruisers Yachts in May 2021.
At about the same time, MarineMax also bought the former Marquis Yachts Pulaski facility, 700 Glenbrook Drive, at a time when Marquis was shutting down operations.
"One of our core values is to look to the long term, and this expansion project is a testament to that belief. We have been looking to expand since we acquired the Pulaski facility in 2021," said Mark Pedersen, Cruisers Yachts president, in a media release. "That plant is designed to build larger yachts, and this expansion provides us with a facility that aligns with our new product development plans for the next five years."
New space will cover everything from stem to stern
Expansion of the Pulaski plant will focus on bolstering production capacity. That means a variety of facilities and operations will add space.
Almost 11,000 square feet with increased ceiling heights will go toward two new production lines capable of handling 75-foot yachts. Once completed, Pedersen said the Pulaski facility will have five production lines capable of building six models at a time.
Upholstery operations will get an extra 4,300-square-feet to increase capabilities.
Metal and maintenance operations will get another 15,120 square feet of space.
The on-site warehouse will add 225,700 square feet of storage capacity and new loading docks. A separate storage building will be added to safely store chemicals.
The site will also upgrade and expand its outdoor storage yard to increase security and storage capacity.
"We’re really excited about it," Pedersen said. "The community has been great working with us. It should help us continue our growth and continue to add more jobs."
Expansion means more jobs coming to Pulaski, Oconto
Cruisers Yachts employs about 150 people in Pulaski and 350 at its Oconto facility. The company expects to hire between 200 and 250 more workers as the new production lines and spaces come online and ramp up.
Pedersen said the company hopes to employ about 400 workers at each plant, 800 total.
He said the company is already hiring for a variety of roles, but when the expansion opens, the company will need electricians, laminators, mechanical staff to install engines, finishing carpenters, upholsterers and woodworkers.
Space will help prepare for new models in development
Cruisers builds two lines of yachts right now, but each offers buyers a variety of options and customizations.
The Cantius line debuted in 2011 and focuses on smart design and maximizing interior space in yachts up to 73 feet long. The GLS line of yachts are 34-50 feet long and focus more on speed, agility, and unique designs.
Pedersen said the company is working on developing next-generation yachts, but that it first needed the production capabilities and space to build them, hence the expansion.
Another big step forward for Pulaski and Cruisers Yachts
Cruisers Yachts is marking 70 years in business this year. The company was founded in 1953 in Oconto, and at one time employed upwards of 750 people.
Oconto native and prominent businessman K.C. Stock , who passed away in late 2022, purchased Cruisers in 1993 at a time when it appeared like the company might shut down operations. Stock didn't want to see that happen and the company became one of the premier manufacturers of 33-60-foot premium yachts. Stock sold the company to MarineMax in 2021 bought the Marquis Yachts facility in Pulaski and turned it into a Cruisers Yachts facility.
"It is another big step forward for the continued growth of Cruisers Yachts and the community," Pedersen said in a media release.

The state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Pulaski, Wisconsin, where Carver and Marquis yachts were previously built, was recently purchased by KCS International, Inc., the parent company of Cruisers Yachts.
The addition of the 216,000-square-foot purpose-built manufacturing space on 15 acres will significantly expand Cruisers’ brand and production capacity, while opening up the brand to the nearby highly skilled workforce with generational heritage in yacht construction.
“The opportunity to acquire this world class facility will allow us to meet customer demands and expand our very aggressive new product development schedule,” says Mark Pedersen, president of KCS International. “Our global dealership partners have done an excellent job expanding our market share across our full product line-up. We have experienced unprecedented growth over the past 24 months, and this facility will help us meet our customers’ current and future demands.”
The company anticipates hiring around 150 additional crew members to run the new facility, as well as an additional 75 workers at the existing Oconto, Wisconsin, location.
