Martinique yacht charter for a day

A feast for your eyes, yacht chartering for a day is a fun-filled and incredible day journey to distant places in Martinique. The coastline is on itself a snorkeling golden mine, sequestered harbors, and refreshing hot springs. The unlikeness of itinerary in Martinique is limitless and could bring you to Petite Anse d'Arlet, Bequia, the Bay of Fort de France, St Pierre, or further down the horizon to St Lucia. St Pierre particularly strikes our attention, with its beautifully sculptured underwater park, the world-class establishment for gourmets, and flavor-hunter at 1643. For instance, Le Fromager or Le Guérin takes us back in time through a walk at the Theater Ruins and Distillerie Depaz.

Martinique yacht charter overnight

Charter a yacht overnight to explore Martinique's depth and sail away from the cosmopolitan capital of Fort de France. Embark in Marina to catch the view to Saint Anne and Anse d'Arlet. For relaxation and sunbathing sessions, take a seat at the secluded Plage des Salines or the calm and shady beach of Plage de Pointe Marin. On your trip to Anse Noire in Anse d'Arlet, enjoy the undersea peace and quietness and infiltrate the world of sea turtles, moray eels, colorful sponges, and small corals. A few hundred meters from Anse Noire is Anse Dufour, a spectacular show of nature, featuring little bay, pelicans, and colored fishermen's houses.

For a week of fantastic sailing adventure on the calm ocean, charter a yacht to the most stunning places and unknown by the rest of the world. Embark onboard your majestic boat from Marina Le Marin and enjoy a fantastic sail to Anse d'Arlet. Fall asleep with the ocean's cradle and the sweet sound of the bird chanting in Anse d'Arlet. Take a chill stroll on the half-mile sand coastline or take a dip in the turquoise water. Navigate to Fort de France for a city tour of the capital of Martinique.

Accessible from anywhere on the island, Fort de France has preserved its 19th-century architecture and wander amongst the French-inspired colonial streets, chic boutiques, and cultural sights to explore. Walk to the central vegetable market created in 1901, or admire the Saint-Louis Cathedral or the grand Fort Saint-Louis. Traverse the Caribbean sea, to anchor in St Pierre, previously known as the 'Paris of the Caribbean.' Amongst the many ventures, visit the iconic volcano, historical landmark, and museums. The almighty Anse du Ceron sits on the northernmost part of Martinique west coast.

Anse du Ceron is perfect for a peaceful swimming session and sunbathing on the warm sand. Colorful fishes, vibrant corals, and natural encounters are among the many offers of snorkeling sessions in Anse du Ceron. Home to several marinas and resorts, Marina Pointe du Bout's human-made beach is a beautiful mixture of city and tropical island. Catch the sunset at the Trois Ilets, and enjoy a moment at the New Orleans's inspired Casino Trois Ilets for a party of poker, roulette, and craps. Conclude your adventure at Sainte-Anne, a postcard like beaches and many places to anchor your yacht. The blue water in Sainte-Anne encloses lively coral vibrant reefs near the shore. Request confirmation, terms and conditions, charter experts, llc terms & conditions.

PLEASE READ THESE TERMS AND CONDITIONS (“ Terms ”) CAREFULLY AS THEY CONTAIN IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING YOUR LEGAL RIGHTS, REMEDIES AND OBLIGATIONS AS WELL AS A SECTION GOVERNING THE JURISDICTION AND VENUE OF DISPUTES. THESE TERMS ALSO CONTAIN A LEGALLY BINDING RELEASE, WAIVER OF LIABILITY, AND ASSUMPTION OF RISK. By creating a username, a login, clicking submit, using the services of Charter Experts, LLC d/b/a Virgin Island Sailing® (“ Broker ) or by accessing Broker’s website, you agree that you have read, and acknowledge your acceptance of these Terms. The Terms are subject to change at any time without notice at Broker’s sole discretion. Additionally, any transaction for which you have made payment shall be governed by the form of Terms in effect at the time of such payment notwithstanding any subsequent changes hereto.

If you are obtaining a quote, information, booking travel for and/or securing or procuring a Charter (as that term is defined in Section 1 below) for more than just yourself, all references below to “Charterer” or “you” (and derivations thereof) shall be read to mean you on behalf of yourself and each individual within your group for whom you are obtaining a quote, information, booking travel for and/or securing or procuring Charter.

These Terms shall be read together and construed, to the fullest extent possible, to be in concert with any other agreement by or among Broker and Charterer. To the extent they cannot be so construed, then in the event of any direct conflict between these Terms and any other agreement by or among Broker and Charterer (including but not limited to the agreement executed by Charterer for a Charter Reservation (as that term is defined in Section 1 below), these Terms shall prevail.

  • Prepaid Charter Reservations . Typically, Broker negotiates charter rates in advance with the yacht owner or charter company (“ Charter Provider ”) to obtain cost-effective rates, and facilitate reservations and availability for yacht charters, excursions and travel (the “ Charter ”). Broker also provides services to you by facilitating the booking of reservations for consideration and receives a commission from the Charter Provider (the “ Broker Fee ”). The Broker Fee is included in the pre-negotiated Charter rate provided to you, plus taxes and other fees where applicable. You agree that your payment is for the total amount set forth in the applicable Charter agreement (which Charter Provider may refer to as a Charter Contract, Charter Agreement, Booking Terms & Conditions, Instructions and Terms for Accommodations, as well as other derivations) provided to you by Broker (“ Charter Agreement ”). Upon execution of the Charter Agreement and receipt of the applicable deposit, you will have made a reservation for the Charter that authorizes Broker to facilitate the Charter on your behalf (“Charter Reservation”), including making payment arrangements with the Charter Provider. You further agree that Broker is a third-party beneficiary to the Charter Agreement and shall have the right to enforce such agreement to the extent it deems such enforcement necessary or advisable to protect its rights hereunder or under the Charter Agreement.

Broker retains the Broker Fee as compensation in arranging your Charter Reservation. The Broker Fee varies based on the amount and type of Charter and/or services provided by Broker.  By making a Charter Reservation, you accept and agree to the relevant cancellation and no-show policy of the Charter Provider set forth in the Charter Agreement. Cancellation and no-show policies vary for each Charter. Carefully read the Charter Agreement and additional information provided to you by Broker. It is expressly agreed by Charterer that the Broker Fee is earned at the time the Charter Reservation is made. Late payment, wrong credit card or debit card details, invalid credit or debit cards, or insufficient funds are for your own risk and account, and you will not be entitled to any refund of any prepaid amount unless the Charter Provider expressly agrees otherwise under the Charter Agreement or in some other signed writing.

  • Charter Rules and Restrictions . Additional terms and agreements will apply to your Charter Reservation and any purchase or rental of equipment or other items, supplies, provisions and travel you may select. Please read those additional terms carefully. In particular, if you have purchased airfare, please ensure that you read the full terms and conditions of carriage issued by the supplier. You agree to abide by the terms of purchase imposed by any supplier with whom you elect to deal, including but not limited to payment of all amounts when due and compliance with the supplier’s rules and restrictions regarding availability, charges, fares, and use of products and services.
  • Payment . All payments must be made by personal check, bank/wire transfer, ACH payment and/or with a major credit card unless otherwise expressly stated. The total price for the Charter Reservation will be billed in U.S. Dollars unless otherwise stated. Some banks and credit card companies impose fees for international transactions. If you are making a reservation from outside of the United States on a US credit card, your bank may convert the payment amount to your local currency and charge you a conversion fee. This means the amount listed on your credit or bank card statement may be in your local currency and therefore a different figure than the amount provided by Broker for the Charter Reservation. In addition, a foreign transaction fee may be assessed if the financial institution that issued your credit card is located outside of the United States. Booking international travel may be considered to be an international transaction by the financial institution or card company. The currency exchange rate and foreign transaction fee is determined solely by your financial institution on the day that it processes the transaction. If you have any questions about these fees or the exchange rate applied to your booking, please contact your financial institution. Broker shall not be liable to you for any such service, conversion, or exchange fee.

Broker expressly reserves the right to cancel your Charter Reservation if full payment is not timely received as set forth in the Charter Agreement.

  • Cancellation and Rescheduling . You may cancel or change your Charter Reservation as set forth in the Charter Agreement by and among you, the Charter Provider and/or Broker. Please note that some Charter Providers do not permit changes to or cancellation of reservations after they are made, or after a certain date, as indicated in the Charter Agreement. You agree to abide by the terms of the Charter Agreement with respect to your Charter Reservation. Broker will not be responsible for reimbursing Charterer for any previously tendered deposits or payments by Charterer and disclaims all liability for the failure of a Charter Provider to refund or return any such funds.
  • Credit Card Transactions and Chargebacks . If for any reason, any Charter Provider is unable to provide the Charter, or any part thereof, for which you have contracted, your remedy lies against the Charter Provider, and not against Broker. However, Broker will use reasonable efforts to assist you and Charter Provider in reaching a resolution to a dispute between you and the Charter Provider. In the event that your payment has already been transferred from Broker to Charter Provider or to an escrow account, you agree that you will not seek a chargeback against Broker for such amounts transferred. You further agree to indemnify and hold Broker harmless from and against any liability, loss, damage or expense (including without limitation, reasonable attorneys’ fees) that Broker may incur in connection with chargebacks against Broker or under the Charter Agreement and your performance thereunder. If Broker incurs any costs, including but not limited to attorneys’ fees, to recover any payments charged back by your credit card company or other financial institution, you agree that you will be liable for these costs. If your payment is declined for any reason, you agree to settle any amounts owed to Broker via money order, cashier’s check, personal check or bank/ACH transfer immediately.
  • Broker Responsibility . Broker makes arrangements with the Charter Provider. Broker additionally makes additional arrangements with other suppliers for the various components and other services that comprise your Charter (“Charter Suppliers”). Broker is not an agent of these Charter Providers or the Charter Suppliers (and the Charter Providers and Charter Suppliers are not agents of Broker). Broker expressly disclaims any liability for the actions or omissions of the Charter Provider and the Charter Suppliers. The Charter Providers and the Charter Suppliers reserve the right to refuse service to you at their sole discretion. Broker assumes no liability for the acts of the Charter Provider or the Charter Suppliers in refusing service. Broker is not responsible for schedule changes and does not offer compensation for those changes. Broker is not responsible under any circumstances for any injury or damages you may suffer, in connection with sea, air or ground transportation, hotel accommodations, or other travel or excursion services arranged by Broker.

You understand Broker is not the source or supplier of the Charter or other travel services you requested and acts solely as a broker for the Charter Provider and the Charter Suppliers. You agree that the Charter Provider and Charter Suppliers whose names appear in the information supplied to you are those who are solely responsible for providing the Charter you purchase. You consent to and request the use of the Charter Provider and the Charter Suppliers and agree to not hold Broker responsible should any of them: (i) fail to provide the Charter or travel services you purchased, whether or not such services are listed in the Charter Agreement or otherwise, (ii) fail to comply with any applicable law, or (iii) engage in any negligent act or omission that causes you any sort of injury, damage, delay or inconvenience.

By using Broker’s services, you waive and release any claim against Broker, its affiliated and subsidiary companies, and their respective officers, directors, employees, contractors, and agents, arising out of or in connection with any loss of or damage to property or injury to any person caused by reason of (i) any defect, negligence, or other wrongful act or omission, or any failure of performance of any kind, by any Charter Provider, Charter Suppliers, or any other provider of sea, airline, hotel, ground transportation or any other travel provider connected to or otherwise associated with the Charter, (ii) any claim for inconvenience, loss of enjoyment, mental distress or other similar claim, (iii) any delayed departure, missed connection, substitute accommodation, termination of service or change in fares or rates, and (iv) overbooking, flight or other travel cancellation, lost or misconnected personal property, or any claim arising out of the air transportation portion of your travel, and (v) or any other claim arising out of or otherwise related to the Charter Agreement or services provided by the Charter Provider and the Charter Suppliers.

Excepting only liability that directly arises from the gross negligence or willful misconduct of Broker, you will not hold Broker responsible for any injury, damage or loss you may suffer while on a Charter, whether incurred on the Charter or in connection with any other rental, purchase, excursion or activity, regardless of the relationship of any of the foregoing with the Charter Provider or the Charter Suppliers.

  • Your Responsibility . By booking a Charter with Broker, you agree to defend and indemnify and hold harmless Broker, Charter Provider, Charter Suppliers, and each of their respective officers, directors, employees and agents, from and against any and all claims, causes of action, demands, recoveries, losses, damages, fines, penalties or other costs or expenses of any kind or nature, including but not limited to reasonable legal fees, arising out of or in connection with: (i) your breach of these Terms or the documents referenced herein; (ii) your violation of any law or rights of a third party; or (iii) your use of the Broker website.

You will review your Charter Agreement and travel documents for accuracy upon receipt. You understand that it is your responsibility to review the accuracy of all details in the Charter Reservation provided to you, and that you may contact Broker if you have any questions.

You assume full and complete responsibility for checking and verifying any and all passport, visa, vaccination, or other entry requirements of your destination(s), and all conditions regarding health, safety, security, political stability, and labor or civil unrest at such destination(s).

You understand that Broker recommends purchasing travel insurance to cover certain risks inherent in travel such as supplier bankruptcy and the inability to travel due to a medical or personal emergency.

  • No Warranties . All Charters, products, services, advice and information is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis without warranties of any kind, either expressed or implied to the fullest extent permitted under the law, including but not limited to, warranties of title or implied warranties of merchantability, satisfactory quality or fitness for a particular purpose. Without limiting the above, no warranty or guarantee is made (i) regarding the acceptance of any reservation request or Charter Reservation; (ii) regarding the availability of Charters, or any other product and/or services through Broker; (iii) that the use of Broker’s website will be error-free; or (iv) regarding the completeness, accuracy, reliability or quality of any information, content, data, service, advice or merchandise provided by Broker or through Broker’s website.

Broker has no special knowledge regarding the Charter Provider’s or Charter Supplier’s financial condition, unsafe conditions, health hazards, weather hazards, or climate extremes at locations to which you may travel during or otherwise in connection with your Charter.

  • Limitation on Liability . In no event shall Broker, Charter Provider, Charter Suppliers, and/or their respective affiliates, or any employees, agents, officers, directors, members or managers of any of the foregoing (“Broker and Charter Releasees”), be liable for any direct, indirect, punitive, incidental, special or consequential damages arising out of, or in any way connected with, your access to, display of or use the Broker’s website, the Charter or services provided to you in connection with the Charter (including, but not limited to, your reliance upon opinions of the Broker), whether based on a theory of negligence, contract, tort, strict liability, consumer protection statutes, or otherwise, and even if Broker and/or any other of the Broker and Charter Releasees have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

If, despite the limitation above, Broker or the Broker and Charter Releasees are found liable for any loss or damage which arises out of or in any way connected with any of the occurrences described above, then Broker, Charter Provider, Charter Supplier and the Broker and Charter Releasees will in no event exceed, in the aggregate, the greater of (a) the Broker Fee, and (b) One-Hundred Dollars (US $100.00).

The foregoing limitation of liability reflects the allocation of risk between the parties. The limitations specified in this section will survive and apply even if any limited remedy specified in these Terms is found to have failed of its essential purpose. The limitations of liability provided in these Terms inure to the benefit of Broker and/or its providers.

The foregoing does not affect any liability which cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.

  • Limitation on Time to File Claims . ANY CAUSE OF ACTION OR CLAIM YOU MAY HAVE ARISING OUT OF RELATING TO BROKER’S SERVICES OR THE WEBSITE MUST BE COMMENCED WITHIN ONE (1) YEAR AFTER THE CAUSE OF ACTION ACCRUES, OTHERWISE, SUCH CAUSE OF ACTION OR CLAIM IS PERMANENTLY BARRED.
  • Waiver . No waiver by Broker of any term or condition set forth in these Terms shall be deemed a further or continuing waiver of such term or condition or a waiver of any other term or condition, and any failure of the Broker to assert a right or provision under these Terms shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision.
  • Severability . If any provision of these Terms is held by a court or other tribunal of competent jurisdiction to be invalid, illegal or unenforceable for any reason, such provision shall be eliminated or limited to the minimum extent such that the remaining provisions of the Terms will continue in full force and effect.
  • Governing Law and Mandatory Venue . The laws of the State of Florida govern the rights and obligations of the parties to this Agreement and the interpretation, construction and enforceability thereof. You agree that any action or proceeding initiated by Charterer against Broker shall be brought solely in the federal and state courts of Hillsborough County, Florida, and you submit to the jurisdiction of those courts and waive any objections to the exercise of personal jurisdiction over you by those courts. In the event any action or proceeding is initiated by Charterer in a court outside of Hillsborough County, Florida, Charterer agrees to pay Broker’s costs and reasonable attorneys’ fees associated with defending such action or proceeding and waives any and all defenses to the transfer of said action or proceeding, whether jurisdictional or otherwise, to a federal or state court in Hillsborough County, Florida.

Martinique Yacht Charters

Martinique Yacht Charters

Martinique is part of the Windward Islands in the Lesser  Antilles lain between the northern and southern islands of St. Martin  and Grenada. Due to its location on the dividing line between the  Atlantic and the Caribbean it is highly exposed to the northeast trade  winds during the wintertime and is well known for good sailing  conditions.

Martinique offers Caribbean classics of flawless white sand beaches  on the southern coast, and black sand on the northern coast.  Palm-fringed sandy beaches, colorful coral reefs, hidden coves perfect  for swimming and snorkeling, unspoiled fishing villages, hot springs,  lush rainforests, rugged peaks and exotic flowers and fruit everywhere.

History of Martinique

Martinique has always been a rich, populated island,  characterized by its luscious foliage and varied landscape. Many  different groups of island peoples inhabited the area before it was  settled by the French in 1635. The French used the island to construct  sugarcane plantations, and farmed other tropical fruits and spices such  as bananas, coffee, cinnamon, and much more. The island was praised for  its plentiful harvests, and the sugarcane plantations helped make  Martinique the “Rum Capital of the World.”

In the 1600s, Martinique was the center for the French Antilles (the  West Indies), both culturally and politically. It hosted the best  resources for food, textiles, and luxury items including spice and rum  exports. The small island grew in popularity, and many French settlers  flocked to the area to stake their claim on the riches and bounty of the  West Indies.

Martinique never separated from the French Republic, and still  carries French influence in their culture and cuisine. French is the  official language of Martinique; however, most citizens also speak  Antillean Creole and some English. The Antillean Creole is still used in  many native song, literature, and in the everyday life of Martinique  natives. Martinique is a cultural melting pot, with both islander and  French influences creating a vibrant scene of art, cuisine, music and  more.

By the locals, Martinique is called the “Island of Revenants,” or  those who will always return. Each year, hundreds of sailors return to  Martinique for its unique culture and atmosphere. And every year, they  discover something new. Martinique is a small island, but one with many  great discoveries, places to see, and adventures to take. You can learn  more about the history of Martinique when you visit Le Marin the main  yacht charter base on the island.

French Culture of Martinique

As part of the French Antilles, Martinique has a unique blend  of Caribbean and French style incorporated into culture, business, music  and food. You can observe the French influence in the bustling markets,  French-Creole restaurants, and fashion straight from the streets of  Paris.

The French élan, or natural spirit, is felt in Martinique’s historical charm yet modern fashion, food and lifestyle.

Martinique is known for a signature style of music, zouk, which  combined European and Caribbean styles of classical music in both  orchestral bands and modern electronic groups. Zouk music is often used  in Martinique’s festivals and traditional dance as part of celebration.  Vaval is the biggest festival of the year. It is a four-day extravaganza  leading up to Lent, similar to Mardi Gras in the U.S. This is a great  time for sailors to rent a boat or catamaran, as there is always  something to do, see, and enjoy during Vaval. Zouk and biguine dance  music dominate the local restaurants and festivals, and can be heard on  the streets far and wide in Martinique.

Martinique’s second cultural draw is the cuisine. Martinique  specializes in a fusion of French and Creole food, with heavy emphasis  on French fine pastries and Caribbean seafood. You can find restaurants  that serve three course meals for relatively inexpensive prices, usually  serving fish, shellfish, and native-grown vegetables and medleys. Many  restaurants will offer French wine pairings with your meal, or you can  opt for a traditional Caribbean rum. Hundreds of restaurants are  scattered across Martinique’s shorelines, collecting droves of sailors  eager to sample the unique food and its cultural significance.

Nature and Landscapes

Nature and Landscapes

Martinique is a real tropical paradise, from the crystal clear  waters to the untouched rainforest landscape that covers a majority of  the island. Martinique is unique to the French Antilles in its fertile  growing grounds and towering peaks. While the stunning landscapes of  Martinique are more than enough for one explorer to appreciate, there  are many nearby islands for you to stop and see during your yacht  charter trip.

The Arawaks, one of the first tribal peoples to inhabit Martinique,  called the island Madinina, “Isle of Flowers.” Martinique is covered  with exotic wildflowers, ranging from colorful orchids, to rare  frangipani and flamingo flowers. Hibiscus flowers are some of the most  prominent, and hundreds of varieties color the forests and the streets.  Those with a green thumb will love seeing the vibrant foliage present on  the island. It is unlike any landscape most sailors ever get to  experience.

Martinique is also home to the volcano Mount Pelée. It towers over  the island town of St. Pierre, known by the locals as the “Pompeii of  the Caribbean.” In 1902 it wiped out most of the town of St. Pierre,  however small villages eventually rebuilt along the shores. Mount Pelée  has not seen activity since 1932, and provides visitors a beautiful  sight to behold while sailing across the waters or travelling by land.

Nearby Islands and Attractions

Though Martinique has plenty of history and culture to soak in  during your yacht charter. From Martinique, you can easily sail to St.  Lucia or St. Vincent. These two islands were also once European  colonies, and share some of the same history and blended culture that  Martinique has to offer. They provide you with more flavors, sights, and  attractions if you want to venture off course during your Martinique  sailing vacation.

Just south of Martinique (approximately 41 nm), you can moor at St.  Lucia. This trip only takes about five to six hours sailing at moderate  speed, which means you can make an overnight trip or stay a couple days  to see all this lush island has to offer. It is covered with dense  rainforest, waterfalls, and beaches bordering the crystal clear waters  of the Caribbean. The locals are very welcoming, and will show you  around St. Lucia’s most popular attractions as well as native favorites.  From horseback riding to all-you-can-eat Creole cuisine, St. Lucia is  the perfect getaway if your charter sailing boat in Martinique.

If you want to take the trip one step further, travel to St. Vincent  next yacht charter destination. Just eight hours (61nm) from St. Lucia,  St. Vincent is a beautiful Caribbean island with the seclusion and  natural beauty that other more inhabited islands can’t offer. While St.  Vincent still has bustling streets and vibrant community life, it also  provides vast expanses of wildlife preserves and volcanic terrain that  few people ever get to experience. St. Vincent was a prime location for  the filming of  Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl,  and hundreds of locals were hired to as minor cast members.

Of course, there is plenty to do and see in Martinique, if you want  to spend more of your time on land rather than sailing around nearby  islands. For a historical overview of the country, visit the Habitation  Clement in La Francois. This historic distillery gives you an overview  of what colonial life was like in Martinique during early trade days.  For a more modern look at Martinique’s rum production, visit the Depaz  Distillery in St. Pierre. This distillery has been known for producing  some of the world’s best rum, dating back to 1651. They use pure blue  cane, and export all over the world.

Yacht Charters in Martinique

Martinique is the perfect place to plan your sailing vacation.  Warm winds and a dry winter make sailing conditions ideal for the  majority of the year. With a variety of professionally maintained  yachts, catamarans and sailing boats to choose, you can’t go wrong with a  Martinique yacht charter. 12 Knots offers crewed yacht charters as well  as bareboat rentals depending on your sailing experience.

The average temperature in Martinique stays around 20-30°C (68-86°F)  year round, with short rain showers in late spring and summer. March and  April are typically the driest months, as well as the most windy.  Northeastern trade winds arrive in the Caribbean between 20-25 knots in  the first half of the year (December to June). Martinique is located on  the edge of the Caribbean bordering the Atlantic Ocean, which means it  is exposed to the strongest trade winds. January through April provide  the best temperatures, light rain, and wind for sailing in Martinique.

On your yachting trip, you can choose to sail around the island, or  travel across the Caribbean to some of the nearby islands. Sailing  north, you’ll reach Dominica, and to the south St. Lucia island. St.  Lucia is home to Soufrière, a town surrounded by luscious rainforest.  This forested area contains several hiking trails where you can catch a  glimpse of waterfalls, hot springs and dormant volcanoes as they tower  over Rodney Bay.

You will start your charter at Le Marin, the main boar rentals hub in  Martinique. You can choose among a variety of sailing yacht and  catamaran charters depending on your desires and budget. Our sailing  yacht and catamarans include luxurious, spacious living quarters,  all-inclusive equipment and the option to have crew members on deck for  sailing assistance and navigation. We offer bareboat charters for  experienced sailors, but encourage you to bring as much gear, and even  hire a skipper if sailing in Grenadines is a new adventure for you.

Should you choose 12 Knots Yachting Club, you are guaranteed a  once-in-a-lifetime Caribbean experience unlike no other. We will offer  you vast variety of professionally maintained yachts, well equipped, and  hospitable staff to make your vacation as relaxed or daring as you  prefer. If you want to enjoy a private yachting experience but have  little sailing experience, sign up for our sailing school and learn  everything you need to know about the open waters. Your experience is up  to you; we are here simply to ensure it is the best possible.

Martinique is a great yacht charter destination in the eastern Caribbean Sea and is the largest in the Windward Islands yacht charter area with a land area of 1,128 km2 (436 sq mi). Like Guadeloupe , Martinique is an overseas region of France , and as such has strong French influences with Parisian style bistros and quaint narrow streets. Martinique lies to the south of Dominica and north of St Lucia .

Known as Madinina, or Island of Flowers, Martinique, is renowned for its scenic beauty. The island is home to countless varieties of plants, trees and flowers. It is a festival of hibiscus, frangipani, bougainvillea, poinsettias and nearly 100 species of orchid. The 425-square-mile island is speckled with plantations producing guavas, mangos, papayas, bananas, pineapples, sugar, cinnamon and coffee.

Martinique

A good place to start your yacht charter vacation around Martinique is Fort de France. The charming capital is built overlooking the magnificent yacht filled marina. From you berth, you can glance up into the narrow streets of the decidedly French town. Martinique has a spirited Mardi Gras Carnival during a five-day period each February -March. The streets fill with rum-fuelled revellers and there are costume parades, music and dancing with much of the activity centred around La Savane in Fort-de-France.

Saint-Pierre commemorates the 8th of May eruption of Mont Pelée with live jazz and a candlelight procession from the cathedral.

Music lovers can enjoy the biennial week-long Martinique Jazz Festival, held in December on odd-numbered years, or the guitar festival held on even-numbered years.

Martinique also has several major sporting events, such as the Tour de la Martinique, a week-long bicycle race held in mid-July, the Tour des Yoles Rondes, a week-long race of traditional sailboats held in early August and a semi-marathon around Fort-de-France in November.

Martinique is gaining increasing popularity as a top yacht charter destination and all the main types of yacht charter are available such as motor, sailing, classic charter, skippered, crewed yachts, catamaran, power boat, sailboat, luxury yachts and superyacht charters.

Once you've exhausted the charming sites of Martinique, take your crewed yacht charter in another direction. Experience the excitement of blue-water sailing by heading north to Dominica or south to St. Lucia and the Grenadines .

The most important island in the French Caribbean, Martinique's culture has been shaped over the centuries by different cultures and empires. Since 1974 the island has been administered as an Overseas Department of France, and you will find strong influences from the European country here - charcuterie, bakery and a strong cafe culture sit comfortably with Creole culture and makes for an atmosphere that many say is the coolest in the Caribbean!

Fort de France, Martinique's capital is a delicious blend of all the cultures that have made the island home over the centuries. Leaving the town you will get to places like Les Anses d'Arlet on the south coast with its primary coves Petite Anse d'Arlet and Grande Anse d'Arlet with its bigger and much busier beach.

For those with a taste for rum, Martinique has some of the best distilleries in the Caribbean. Perhaps asking someone else to drive you can follow La Route des Grands Rhums that links distilleries throughout the island. Also as with France, these rums have Appellation d'Origine Controlée status that protect their names and quality.

Two thirds of Martinique is given over to nature, and for those after a chance to hike up a dormant volcano (that last exploded in 1902) you can hike through lush rainforest up well marked trails of Mont Pelee - do remember some wet weather gear as that's the rainiest part of the island!

Even though you could spend a good week exploring the 425 square mile island, many choose to sail onward through the Windward Islands to Saint Lucia, Bequia, Dominica and Guadeloupe for example - all with line of sight sailing, and some of the best sailing on the planet!

Hiring A Yacht In Martinique

If you are on a crewed or skippered yacht charter you will turn up at the charter base, introduce yourself to the crew or boat owner and on finalising your bill for the holiday, off you go.

On a bareboat yacht charter you will need to present your sailing qualifications to the boat owner or charter company and after paying any remaining fees/damage deposits, you will inspect the boat and off you go!

The seas are well-charted and as long as you have ICC/ASA 104 Bareboat certification (or equivalent) you will be good to go.

Getting to Martinique

There are no direct flights from Europe to Martinique. You will normally change planes on the US mainland or Canada and fly in to the island from there. There are Caribbean regional airlines that you can use to get from elsewhere in the region too. From the airport you can take a taxi to the charter base.

Best Areas To Charter

On a shorter sailing holiday you may sail between Martinique and Saint Lucia - on a longer one you can explore the French Caribbean or Grenadines. Let's look at the two charter areas from north to south.

French Caribbean

The main islands of Dominica and Guadeloupe are with Martinique the major islands of the French Caribbean. No more than half a day's line of sight sailing from one to the next, generally on a comfortable reach, you will be able to get a taste for how French culture has melded with Caribbean and slave cultures including the cuisine, rums and way of life. White sand beaches and coral reefs are an unforgettable part of it too.

The Grenadines

Saint Lucia just to the south is within the reach of a seven day Martinique yacht charter. Resorts like Marigot Bay are world-class, while no visitor should ignore the Pitons rock formations that make the island so famous. Many suggest sailing past St Vincent itself and onto world famous Grenadine islands Bequia and Mustique to the south that are escapes for the uber cool and super rich. Mayreau to the south of these is so small you can explore it on foot!

Best Towns to Charter a Yacht in Martinique

Though Fort de France has a marina, the main charter base is in Le Marin on the SW of the island.

Fort de France

The capital of the island and a place you will certainly visit on a Martinique sailing trip, Fort de France has a marinaand is a charter base for many yachts.

In a cove on the SW of the island Marina Le Marin is the main boat charter base for charter companies on Martinique.

Types Of Yachts To Hire

There are three broad types of charter - bareboat charter, flotilla charters, and crewed yacht charter. Where it comes to the types of charter boat you can hire a motorboat charter , a monohull sailing yacht charter , catamaran charter , superyacht charter or luxury yacht charter and RIBs or day boats. Each have their benefits.

Motor yacht

Coming in all shapes and sizes from 7 metres to 70+ metres, motor boats are as different as their uses. A seven metre RIB will be a great day boat and can be hired for as little as $110 a day for fishing trips or just blasting about the bay. The 15 metre plus size of motor yacht will have cabins and often en suite heads and cost upwards of $400 a day.

Starting at as 'little' as $10,000 a day a superyacht charter will come with skipper and crew as part of the package. On the crewed motor yacht or sailing boat you will be treated like kings and queens on your personal mini-cruise-ship that will often come with tenders and toys such as jet skis and even sailing yachts!

Luxury Yacht Charter

Coming with or without skipper and/or crew, a luxury charter yacht will cost upwards of $700 a day and will come fully fitted out with all the modern conveniences and comforts of the very best sailing craft afloat. Expect en suite heads and comfortable staterooms but also a lot of fun under sail!

Starting at $450 a day, catamarans are luxury yachts that offer lots of space, a fair lick of speed on a reach and a shallow draft for mooring close into shore. They have twin engines in the hulls so while large they are incredibly manoeuvrable when in marinas and so forth.

Monohull Sailing Boat

Ranging in size from 10 metres up to 20 or so, monohull sailing yachts form the backbone of the Martinique yacht charter industry. Very good to windward, you will find yourself chewing up the miles at all points of sail without relying on the engines. Costing as little as $120 a day you will enjoy comfort and fun for a good budget price.

Crewed Yacht charter or Bareboat?

Where it comes to a Martinique yacht charter you have two choices - bareboat or crewed yacht charter. Both have their own advantages.

Crewed charter

No sailing qualifications or not confident enough to bareboat charter yourself? That's no problem when it comes to yacht chartering - you can take on a skipper and crew for the week or two touring Windward Island waters! With a crewed yacht charter you have someone aboard who knows the ropes and the best places to visit on your sailing holiday. They will know the best spots for what you want, be it hideaway restaurants or the best hiking and diving to be found! Costing as little as $100 a day (depending on the size and type of vessel) you will get the very best from your yacht charter holiday with one aboard. Don't forget the tip at the end of the week!

Bareboat yacht charter

A competent sailor? Have the qualifications required? Dreaming all year of casting off and exploring the Caribbeanislands with just you and your friends? A bareboat charter is just the thing for you. This is cheaper than a skippered yacht charter but you also get the privacy of being in your chosen group without a stranger in your midst. You get to choose your own adventure and go at your own pace - not a bad thing for a holiday to recharge your batteries ahead of rejoining the rat race...

Do you need a licence to charter in Martinique?

If you want to bareboat charter you will need an approved boating qualification, below is a list of relevant qualifications:

International Certificate of Competence (ICC): Standard European Qualification for bareboat sailing

ASA 104 Bareboat certificate : The American Sailing Association's skipper standard qualification for hiring bareboat yachts.

RYA: The Royal Yachting Association's qualifications (minimum Day Skipper level) is necessary for bareboat hire, it's also worthwhile seeing do you need to have done a VHF radio course as well as some boat owner and charter companies will require this.

There are also many other European national boating qualifications that are accepted here too, it's worthwhile checking these details before hiring.

If you want a skippered boat rental as a charter yacht then you don't need any sailing certification at all, you just turn up and off you go.

Best Times To Hire

The best time to enjoy a charter vacation in the Windward Islands is often a question of taste and time. Throughout the year the temperatures never really dip below the 20 degree C range and can get as high as 32 degrees in high summer. The rainy season coincides with the hurricane season between June and November.

That allows you to make a choice - do you like crowds and 'the buzz' or do you want an escape? To escape, do a Martinique yacht charter during school term. For the buzz, visit around Christmas or Easter.

The Climate

The sailing season runs from December to June with the hurricane season hitting in June and ending in November. Winds are dominated by the NE Trade Winds and can sit at up to 20 knots, firm and steady all day.

Hurricanes have recently given the region a big kicking and are not to be underestimated. Generally speaking it is impossible to hire a yacht during this time.

How much does it cost for a Martinique Charter

There's almost a yacht for every budget when it comes to chartering. For US $120 a day - $840 a week - you can take a sailboat monohull out with five other adults. That is going to be cheaper than a week in a hotel for everyone.

Catamarans cost a lot more - expect to pay anything from $500 to $2,000 a day depending on the season.

Motor boats taken on a bareboat basis can cost as little as $500 a day if they have sleeping acommodation - much less if they are day boats.

RIBs can cost as little as €50 for an afternoon.

In each of the examples above you can take on a skipper starting at $150 a day depending on what the vessel is and their required qualifications to sail it.

Superyachts and luxury yachts are a different league - expect to pay $15,000 a day and up to $100,000 a day if your budget can manage it.

Is Yacht hire in Martinique Legal?

Martinique's yacht charter industry is an integral part of its tourism sector and perfectly legal.

What kind of Yachts can I hire in Martinique?

You can hire everything from a small motor boat to a large superyacht. Monohull sailing yachts are common, though catamarans are more comfortable and spacious metre for metre.

What should I consider when hiring a Yacht?

Your budget for the sailing holiday should come first. Travelling - both getting there and what destinations to explore. What do you enjoy on a yacht charter? Work out your itinerary from there. Who are you taking with you and what are your limitations as a sailor?

What are the best times to hire a Yacht in Martinique?

The sailing season runs from November to May, with the best time for a sailing yacht charter outside of school holidays thanks to the crowds.

Do you have to pay a deposit when hiring a Yacht in Martinique?

There are two deposits to consider. Firstly you will normally have to pay a 50% deposit on booking. This secures your trip. On arrival you will have to pay a refundable security deposit for the trip on your credit card though you can get yacht charter insurance - though non-refundable this can be cheaper.

What happens if my Yacht breaks down?

If you are at sea and in danger, call MAYDAY on VHF Ch16. If you have a mechanical fault and can make it to/are on a mooring you will be able to phone a number given by the yacht charter company.

What should I think of before I hire a Yacht in Martinique?

Do you have the experience to handle the yacht charter you want to book? Where do you want to go? Though it will be warm, bring something for the rain thanks to the lush rainforest on the island. Do you just want to sail close to Martinique or do you want to sail further afield to places like Mustique and Bequia? That may take a bit longer so allow for a longer sailing trip.

Do I need a visa to visit Martinique?

Citizens of the US, UK, Canada, EU and EEA countries can normally stay on Martinique for up to three months with no visa. If you are from outside these countries, check with the French Consulate.

Frequently asked questions

The main points to consider are what is your budget, have you got the necessary sailing experience and qualifications to manage the boat if it's not going to have a skipper, whom you are taking sailing, where exactly you wish to go and what will the weather be like on the proposed dates of your trip.

You will typically pay 50% up front on booking the yacht hire and the balance on arrival. You will either pay a security deposit with your credit card on departure or can get insurance covering damage in advance. In some cases (such as the recent Covid situation) charter companies may be more flexible but this depends on the individual charter companies themselves.

If you are at sea and in danger, call MAYDAY on VHF Ch16 or ring the coast guard on your phone if you have reception. If you have a mechanical fault and can make it to or are on a mooring you will be able to phone a help line number given by the boat charter company.

You should consider do you have the experience to handle the yacht charter or boat hire before you book and where do you want to go along with what the weather will be like. Bring warm weather and cool weather clothing if it looks like the weather can be cool as well as warm and remember at sea it can be cool on most evenings.

If you want to sail without a skipper then you will need relevant qualifications like RYA Day Skipper/International Certificate of Competence (ICC)/ASA 104 Bareboat certificate or the US Sailing Certificate. For small 'day boats' or if you choose to have a skippered on board your yacht charter you typically don't require licences.

Guide to Martinique

A mountainous island enriched with alluring scenery and world-class beaches

Offering a striking diversity of landscapes and atmospheres, Martinique is a cosmopolitan and sophisticated island located in the heart of the Caribbean archipelago. The blend of French and West Indian cultures have created a unique island that is raw and untouched, perfect for exploring off and on land during your superyacht charter vacation .

The French Caribbean island offers a multitude of activities to see and do during your time visiting the tropical isle. Wooing its visitors with classic Caribbean beauty, there is something for everyone to enjoy on this island from amazing beaches to great hiking trails, water activities and dolphin watching.

A fantastic place to visit and explore, Martinique is home to an abundance of wild and exotic landscapes that guests are welcomed to venture around. Set sail to the north of the island and you will find the luxuriant rainforest, filled with an assortment of beautiful flora, 100-meter high waterfalls and tremendous views of Mount Pelee volcano. There are more than four hundred different species of trees in Martinique, three times as many as in Europe.

Fuel the adventure inside you as you hike through the rainforest, observing the trailing lianas and overhanging ferns, the forest is an extremely unique and exciting place to visit, especially for nature and wildlife enthusiasts.

The south of the island has its fair share of natural wonders too, offering miles of stunning sandy beaches and idyllic bays that are perfect for snorkeling and admiring the marine life down below the water line. Anse Noir and Anse Dufour are two bays found directly beside each other, Anse Noir is notoriously recognised for its jet black sand; a highlight of many Martinique trips. Just a few minute’s walk around the bay will lead you to Anse Noir’s white-sand sister beach, Anse Dufour. Filled with gorgeous palm trees and soft white sand, these two secluded coves are just a few of the many spectacular beaches on the island.

Finally, don’t leave without trying some local cuisine. Sitting at the bottom of a steep staircase only a few minutes’ walk from the beach lies L’Escale in Anse d’Arlet restaurant. Artistically-plated dishes of excellent French Caribbean cuisine are served nightly here as well as for lunch on weekends. Enjoy the most superb dining experience with loved ones as you reminisce about your exciting day spent exploring aboard your luxury superyacht rental.

Its atmosphere, culture, and beauty make it a must-see for any world traveler — especially for anyone who loves sailing.

Spending a day or a week on a boat rental in Martinique is absolutely exquisite. The island itself has such a unique, incomparable beauty that sets it apart from other common Caribbean sailing spots. But the waters surrounding it offer that same crystal blue beauty that travelers yearn for in a tropical vacation. You can spend a week sailing around the island and the surrounding cays and never get bored.

Benefits of a weekly boat rental for sailing Martinique

Sailo offers weekly charters that will allow you to explore then islands and the surrounding waters with plenty of time to see and do everything on your bucket list. Weekly charters offer the flexibility of a week-long itinerary that you can create yourself and adjust as you sail and discover the wonders of the Caribbean. We recommend chatting with the boat representative (or the captain/skipper, if you aren’t renting a bareboat charter) to get advice on what you should plan to do while on your boating adventure. Try to rent a sailinig boat in Martinique.

Another benefit of a weekly rental is the option to reserve for free available for some of our charters. When you select a weekly boat rental for Martinique sailing, you can reserve the boat of your choice, modify or cancel the reservation, all within a 24 hour period without entering your credit card. Things to do when sailing Martinique

This island is absolutely gorgeous, feeling like the perfect combination of a tropical paradise with a historic setting, and there is truly something for every traveler to enjoy. If you love pristine sandy beaches amid turquoise waters and trying out watersports like snorkeling and diving, this is the perfect vacation destination. If you love history and rich cultural experiences, this is a great place to be, since the island has a distinctly European feel.

Martinique one-week sailing itinerary

There is plenty to discover on land, but there’s even more to see and do at sea. Here’s a sample itinerary for a one week yacht rental in Martinique.

Start off your boating adventure from Marina du Marin, the largest marina on the island, only 45 minutes from the airport (remember to check if you can add airport transfers to your boat). After spending some time exploring Martinique by land, it’s time to embark on your adventure and set course for Saint Anne. Saint Anne is a short sail away and a great place to stop on the first leg of your trip. Go swimming or snorkeling, or head to land to explore the shopping, dining, and entertainment options with gorgeous seaside views. You can even spend your entire second day exploring Saint Anne by land since it’s just that exquisite.

Over the next week, you have the option of stopping at Ilets du Francois and the oh-so-famous Baignoire de Joséphine for gorgeous warm waters and white sand beaches. Pass the small island of Loup Gaou to see the coral sand and palm trees as pretty as a tropical postcard, then dock at Havre du Robert to explore the mangroves and indulge in delicious French-inspired cuisine. Check out the historic Baie aux Trésors and the Caribbean surf culture of Tartane. And finally your last stop will be Saint Pierre, the perfect environment for snorkeling, swimming with exotic sea life, and even diving to admire the amazing shipwrecks.

If you decide you want to extend your trip, Guadeloupe is the closest destination to Martinique and is another great Caribbean vacation destination. We also reccomend also  Grenada for a sailing adventure to remember.

Your boat or a yacht charter Martinique sailing is only a click away — time to escape to paradise!

Being dominated by the Siberian High winter cold, the continental climates of the krai see extreme freezing for an area adjacent to the sea near the mid-latitudes, but also warm summers in the interior. The southern region lies mostly in the basin of the lower Amur River , with the mouth of the river located at Nikolaevsk-on-Amur draining into the Strait of Tartary , which separates Khabarovsk Krai from the island of Sakhalin . The north occupies a vast mountainous area along the coastline of the Sea of Okhotsk , a marginal sea of the Pacific Ocean . Khabarovsk Krai is bordered by Magadan Oblast to the north; Amur Oblast , Jewish Autonomous Oblast , and the Sakha Republic to the west; Primorsky Krai to the south; and Sakhalin Oblast to the east.

The population consists of mostly ethnic Russians , but indigenous people of the area are numerous, such as the Tungusic peoples ( Evenks , Negidals , Ulchs , Nanai , Oroch , Udege ), Amur Nivkhs , and Ainu . [10]

Khabarovsk Krai shares its borders with Magadan Oblast in the north; with the Sakha Republic and Amur Oblast in the west; with the Jewish Autonomous Oblast , China ( Heilongjiang ), and Primorsky Krai in the south; and is limited by the Sea of Okhotsk in the east. In terms of area, it is the fourth-largest federal subject within Russia. Major islands include the Shantar Islands .

Taiga and tundra in the north, swampy forest in the central depression, and deciduous forest in the south are the natural vegetation in the area. The main rivers are the Amur , Amgun , Uda , and Tugur , among others. There are also lakes such as Bokon , Bolon , Chukchagir , Evoron , Kizi , Khummi , Orel , and Udyl , among others. [11]

Khabarovsk Krai has a severely continental climate with its northern areas being subarctic with stronger maritime summer moderation in the north. In its southerly areas, especially inland, annual swings are extremely strong, with Khabarovsk itself having hot, wet, and humid summers which rapidly transform into severely cold and long winters, where temperatures hardly ever go above freezing. This is because of the influence of the East Asian monsoon in summer and the bitterly cold Siberian High in winter. The second-largest city of Komsomolsk-on-Amur has even more violent temperature swings than Khabarovsk, with winter average lows below −30   °C (−22   °F) , but in spite of this, avoiding being subarctic because of the significant heat in summer.

The main mountain ranges in the region are the Bureya Range , the Badzhal Range (highest point 2,221 metres (7,287   ft) high, the Gora Ulun ), the Yam-Alin , the Dusse-Alin , the Sikhote-Alin , the Dzhugdzhur Mountains , the Kondyor Massif , as well as a small section of the Suntar-Khayata Range , the Yudoma-Maya Highlands , and the Sette-Daban in the western border regions. The highest point is 2,933 metres (9,623   ft) high, Berill Mountain . [12] [13]

There are a number of peninsulas along the krai's extensive coast, the main ones being (north to south) the Lisyansky Peninsula , Nurki Peninsula , Tugurskiy Peninsula , and the Tokhareu Peninsula .

The main islands of Khabarovsk Krai (north to south) are Malminskiye Island , the Shantar Islands , Menshikov Island , Reyneke Island (Sea of Okhotsk) , Chkalov Island , Baydukov Island , and the Chastye Islands . The island of Sakhalin (Russia's largest) is administered separately as Sakhalin Oblast , along with the Kuril Islands .

The charts below detail climate averages from various locations in the krai. Khabarovsk is set near the Chinese border at a lower latitude far inland, while Komsomolsk-on-Amur being further downstream on the Amur river at a higher latitude. Sovetskaya Gavan and Okhotsk are coastal settlements in the deep south and far north, respectively.

According to various Chinese and Korean records, the southern part of Khabarovsk Krai was originally occupied by one of the five semi-nomadic Shiwei , the Bo Shiwei tribes, and the Black Water Mohe tribes living, respectively, on the west and the east of the Bureya and the Lesser Khingan ranges.

In 1643, Vassili Poyarkov 's boats descended the Amur , returning to Yakutsk by the Sea of Okhotsk and the Aldan River , and in 1649–1650, Yerofey Khabarov occupied the banks of the Amur. The resistance of the Chinese, however, obliged the Cossacks to quit their forts, and by the Treaty of Nerchinsk (1689), Russia abandoned its advance into the basin of the river.

Although the Russians were thus deprived of the right to navigate the Amur River, the territorial claim over the lower courses of the river was not settled in the Treaty of Nerchinsk of 1689. The area between the Uda River and the Greater Khingan mountain range (i.e. most of Lower Amuria) was left undemarcated and the Sino-Russian border was allowed to fluctuate. [20] [21]

Later in the nineteenth century, Nikolay Muravyov conducted an aggressive policy with China by claiming that the lower reaches of the Amur River belonged to Russia . In 1852, a Russian military expedition under Muravyov explored the Amur, and by 1857, a chain of Russian Cossacks and peasants had been settled along the whole course of the river. In 1858, in the Treaty of Aigun , China recognized the Amur River downstream as far as the Ussuri River as the boundary between Russia and the Qing Empire, and granted Russia free access to the Pacific Ocean. [22] The Sino-Russian border was later further delineated in the Treaty of Peking of 1860 when the Ussuri Territory (the Maritime Territory ), which was previously a joint possession, became Russian. [23]

Khabarovsk Krai was established on 20 October 1938, when the Far Eastern Krai was split into the Khabarovsk and Primorsky Krais . [24] Kamchatka Oblast , which was originally subordinated to the Far Eastern Krai, fell under the Jurisdiction of Khabarovsk Krai, along with its two National Okrugs, Chukotka and Koryak . In 1947, the northern part of Sakhalin was removed from the Krai to join the southern part and form Sakhalin Oblast . In 1948, parts of its southwestern territories were removed from the Krai to form Amur Oblast . In 1953, Magadan Oblast was established from the northern parts of the Krai and was given jurisdiction over Chukotka National Okrug, which was originally under the jurisdiction of Kamchatka oblast. In 1956, Kamchatka Oblast became its own region and took Koryak National Okrug with it. The Krai took its modern form in 1991, just before the USSR's collapse when the Jewish Autonomous Oblast was created within its territory. On 24 April 1996, Khabarovsk signed a power-sharing agreement with the federal government, granting it autonomy. [25] This agreement would be abolished on 12 August 2002. [26]

Khabarovsk Krai Administration building Zdanie administratsii Khabarovskogo kraia.JPG

During the Soviet period, the high authority in the oblast was shared between three persons: The first secretary of the Khabarovsk CPSU Committee (who, in reality, had the biggest authority), the chairman of the oblast Soviet (legislative power), and the Chairman of the oblast Executive Committee (executive power). Since 1991, CPSU lost all the power, and the head of the Oblast administration, and eventually the governor, was appointed/elected alongside elected regional parliament .

The Charter of Khabarovsk Krai is the fundamental law of the krai. The Legislative Duma of Khabarovsk Krai is the regional standing legislative (representative) body. The Legislative Duma exercises its authority by passing laws, resolutions, and other legal acts and by supervising the implementation and observance of the laws and other legal acts passed by it. The highest executive body is the Krai Government, which includes territorial executive bodies, such as district administrations, committees, and commissions that facilitate development and run the day to day matters of the province. The Krai Administration supports the activities of the Governor , who is the highest official and acts as guarantor of the observance of the Charter in accordance with the Constitution of Russia .

On 9 July 2020, the governor of the region, Sergei Furgal , was arrested and flown to Moscow. The 2020 Khabarovsk Krai protests began on 11 July 2020, in support of Furgal. [27]

Khabarovsk Krai is the most industrialized territory of the Far East of Russia, producing 30% of the total industrial products in the Far Eastern Economic Region.

The machine construction industry consists primarily of a highly developed military–industrial complex of large-scale aircraft- and shipbuilding enterprises. [28] The Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aircraft Production Association is currently among the krai's most successful enterprises, and for years has been the largest taxpayer of the territory. [28] Other major industries include timber-working and fishing , along with metallurgy in the main cities. Komsomolsk-on-Amur is the iron and steel centre of the Far East; a pipeline from northern Sakhalin supplies the petroleum-refining industry in the city of Khabarovsk . In the Amur basin, there is also some cultivation of wheat and soybeans . The administrative centre , Khabarovsk, is at the junction of the Amur River and the Trans-Siberian Railway .

The region's mineral resources are relatively underdeveloped. Khabarovsk Krai contains large gold mining operations (Highland Gold, Polus Gold), a major but low-grade copper deposit being explored by IG Integro Group , and a world-class tin district which was a major contributor to the Soviet industrial complex and is currently being revitalised by Far Eastern Tin (Festivalnoye mine) and by Sable Tin Resources Archived March 13, 2017, at the Wayback Machine , which is developing the Sable Tin Deposit (Sobolinoye) , a large high-grade deposit, 25   km from Solnechny town.
