The redesigned Cape Cod Marlin Heritage combines the best of Nathanael Herreshoff’s Fish and Marlin designs with a touch of modern amenities. Her classic hull shape below the waterline remains unchanged. The comfortable cockpit is slightly smaller than the original Fish allowing more cabin space. This is a return to the era of Herreshoff when simplicity was fundamental, boats were designed for performance, built with craftsmanship and pride, and remained strikingly beautiful.

The Marlin is a sloop rig, with a 1500 lb. lead keel and an outboard motor well. She is a wonderful, safe and sturdy daysailer, with a huge cockpit that seats 6 or more in comfort and high coaming that keeps water out and kids in. From 2007 to 2009, the Rumery yard in Saco, ME undertook a complete overhaul of the boat. She was taken down to bare fiberglass and bright work and rebuilt and refinished from there, along with the addition of new winches, automatic bailer, self-furling jib, new suit of sails, GPS and radio, and new electrical and wiring rig. The head was removed but the twin bunks were retained. The mast was moved a bit to reduce the weather helm.

Herreshoff Marlin 23Herreshoff Marlin 23 is a 22 ′ 11 ″ / 7 m monohull sailboat designed by Nathaniel G. Herreshoff and A. Sidney DeWolf Herreshoff and built by Herreshoff Mfg. Co. and Cape Cod Shipbuilding starting in 1958.  Rig and SailsAuxilary power, accomodations, calculations. The theoretical maximum speed that a displacement hull can move efficiently through the water is determined by it's waterline length and displacement. It may be unable to reach this speed if the boat is underpowered or heavily loaded, though it may exceed this speed given enough power. Read more. Now Cape Cod Shipbuilding has made additional improvements. Gordon L. Goodwin redesigned the Marlin to create the new version, the Heritage 23, which was launched last spring. One memorable feature of the early Marlins was the translucent fiberglass cabintop. The new Heritage has a much more "Herreshoffy" cabin —one of many improvements.
