Just a few words to tell you that our trip was great, everyone was verry happy! The land program was well balanced with plenty of time to rest. Even the guide said that it was a very good compromise. The last part on the boat was fantastic and we were able to leave the marina at night and come back the last morning (Cuban crews are authorized to sail at night), and thus we had time to visit Cayo Largo and the surroundings. The cook aboard was a real chief and we amazing meals every day. We’ve found Cuban people really friendly, even with their limited means and resources, and the culture and history of the country particularly interesting. I thank you very much for your organization et ensuring everything goes as smoothly as possible.

Cuba Sailing Catamarans

A sailing catamaran

Catamarans, of course, are traditionally powered by sails. Sailing has a natural romance associated with it. If you aren’t already attracted to sailing, perhaps you haven’t considered the many benefits.

Sailing is Relaxed

The wind isn’t cooperating? That’s ok – it’s what a vacation on a sailing catamaran is all about. If you need to get somewhere, you can always fire up the engines and head to the next place on your itinerary.

Sailing is Out of the Ordinary

When you’re on a sailing catamaran, you can truly go anywhere. Enjoy the food and activities of a local village or find your own remote private anchorage. Get out there where no one else is and experience the freedom that a sailing vacation offers.

Sailing is Still

If noise is a regular part of your life, you probably want your vacation to be about being still and laid back. While there is always plenty to do on any catamaran, there is something unique about moving across the water with no motor noise to the experience.

Sailing is Tradition

Powercats are Worry-Free

When you arrange for a private Cuba catamaran charter , you are signing up for an experience where everything is taken care of. The only thing to consider is when to apply sunscreen.

Powercats are Private

When you’re on the ocean, there’s open space. You get to make the call as to whether you want neighbors or not.

Powercats are Fun

Many of the vessels available on this site come with everything from floaties to slides. If you want to do something a bit further from ship, there’s always going to be incredible things to see and do that you just won’t get any other way.

Cuba Catamaran Charter Q&A

How much does it cost to charter a catamaran are catamarans more expensive.

Catamaran charters vary in their cost based on several factors, including

  • Mode of power
  • Crew compliment
  • Luxury of fittings and features

Costs will vary a fair amount based on these factors, and you can see the exact numbers by looking above or searching the website. Are catamarans more expensive? Not at all. In fact, you’ll likely find that a Cuba catamaran charter is less expensive than a standard mono-hull sailing or power yacht.

What does the cost of a catamaran charter include?

The cost of a Cuba catamaran charters through Private Yacht Charter typically includes

  • Expenses associated with running the vessel
  • 3 meals a day
  • Standard bar
  • Any equipment your specific charter has on board.

Essentially the only thing your rental charge doesn’t include are costs for doing things on land and gratuities (typically 15-20%). Any additional activities off of the boat will likely cost you extra. Please note that every boat will be different. Be sure to read your paperwork thoroughly to avoid any surprises.

What is a catamaran, and how is it different from a standard (monohull) vessel?

Rather than a single hull with a keel to keep the vessel upright, a catamaran is a boat with two hulls spaced apart from each other on either side of the craft. This has several advantages for those looking to take a sailing vacation in Cuba.

What are the benefits of catamarans compared to standard vessels?

A catamaran has several advantages over a standard sailing vessel (called a monohull), including a smaller draught, less hull volume, a smaller wake, and probably best of all: an increased area for deck space.

How long is the Cuba catamaran charter season?

Ideal seasons for catamaran charter vacations vary by location. Many vessels are not available during the summer due to the hurricane season. The most popular time is during the winter, as people are looking to escape the cold of their local climate.

How long can you rent a catamaran for?

The fees listed on our website are per week, but that doesn’t mean you’re limited to time spans of a week. Along with your own schedule, check out the schedule of availability for your selected sailing or power catamaran.

Do you tip on a catamaran charter?

It is customary to tip your catamaran crew at the end of your charter. The standard is 15-20% of the charter rate.  Be mindful of this additional expense when booking your trip.

What is a powercat and how is its sailing experience unique?

A powercat (short for power catamaran) is a catamaran driven exclusively by engines, so there’s no sails. You get all the speed, smoothness, and certainty of an engine with a powercat.

Will I need to wear a lifejacket?

Only when and where required by law – but not very often, if ever. Your crew will let you know when those times are.

If your question isn’t on this list, or you would like more details before scheduling your dream Cuba catamaran charter , please contact us!

Cayo Blanco Travel Guide – Catamaran Tour Day Trip

Cayo Blanco travel guide - Shows rows of palm trees on the beach

If you’re visiting Varadero Cuba and fancy a relaxing day out on a catamaran boat, exploring tropical island beaches, Cayo Blanco is a great place to visit. The island day trip is one of the top things to do whilst staying in Varadero and it’s extremely easy to get to.

Follow our Cayo Blanco travel guides for an overview of everything you need to know about visiting Cayo Blanco. We’ve included tour booking tips, a list of things to do on the island and plenty of answers to frequently asked questions.

Why should I visit Cayo Blanco?

If you’re looking for a relaxing day trip, Cayo Blanco is a must! It’s an unspoilt island of tropical beaches that are perfect for relaxation in the hot Caribbean sun. The beaches of Cayo Blanco are covered with powdery white sand mixed with pebbles, shells, and if you’re lucky, you’ll witness some spectacular sea life.

The waters of the island are extremely calm and shallow, making it child friendly and a great family trip. Sand bars have formed on the bay of the beaches so you can wade out and lie down without any chance of being swept away by the waves.

There’s also a coral reef off the shore, which is teaming with tropical fish, and if you’re lucky, you might spot a giant sea turtle. We recommend bringing snorkelling gear if this is something you want to do when visiting Cayo Blanco.

View of Cayo Blanco beach from the sea

Where is Cayo Blanco?

Cayo Blanco is an uninhabited island just off the coast of the Varadero peninsula, located around 30km away. It’s a remote island that’s literally the epitome of paradise. The beach is around 15km long, making it great for long walks and getting away from the crowds of incoming tourists.

How to get to Cayo Blanco

The main way to get to Cayo Blanco is by catamaran boat. A regatta of catamarans leave Varadero marina each morning of the week, heading straight to the island. It takes around 1 hour and 30 minutes to get to Cayo Blanco, with a 20-minute stop-off point on the way for snorkelling.

The other way to get to Cayo Blanco is by a private boat tour with your very own captain. Whilst this option is more expensive, it’s a great choice for larger groups or for those that want a unique experience away from other tourists. Prices vary depending on the charter boat, so be sure to compare costs online before booking. If you have a power boat licence, you can also rent your own boat. Check out this website or speak to the boat operators at Varadero Marina for more information.

Cayo Blanco catamaran tour - Shows a boat at Varadero marina

What’s included in the catamaran tour to Cayo Blanco?

The catamaran tour to Cayo Blanco includes a variety of activities and amenities in your action-packed day of exploring. These include:

  • A bus transfer to and from your hotel – Be sure to check your email booking confirmation or speak with your hotel tour agent to find out the exact pick up-time at your hotel.
  • Unlimited drinks. The boat trip includes an open bar, serving up Cuba’s most famous and popular spirit, Rum, amongst other spirits, beer, water and soft drinks.
  • On board entertainment – The staff on the boat are full of energy and create a great atmosphere with plenty of dancing. Music is played throughout the boat trip, ranging from Cuban classics to popular chart music and Latin dance jams. It’s not a party boat and families are welcome. However, the atmosphere is upbeat and party fuelled, without any rowdiness.
  • An allocated seat on board the catamaran, nets to lounge on and complimentary use of sun loungers on the island.
  • Complimentary snorkelling equipment rental – The boat stops off for snorkelling on the way to Cayo Blanco and you’ll get half an hour or so to swim in the sea. See what tropical see-life you can find!
  • Buffet lunch – Upon arrival at Cayo Blanco, you’ll get to indulge in an authentic Cuban buffet lunch, which includes various meat dishes, lobster, vegetables and rice. They also offer tropical fruits for dessert.
  • An open bar on Cayo Blanco island – Continuing on with the theme of complimentary drinks on the boat, drinks are also included on the island.

Overall, we thought the tour was great value! The only additional cost is optional tipping at the end of the tour.

How to book a tour to Cayo Blanco

  • Reserve a space at the ‘tours’ desk in your hotel or with your in-hotel vacation representative.
  • Book the tour online using a travel agent such as TUI or Sunwing. Both companies have apps and websites where you can book the tour digitally. Book tickets online here .
  • Speak to a local tour company in Downtown Varadero, or by browsing local companies on TripAdvisor here.

As the catamaran tour to Cayo Blanco is a very popular tour option in Varadero, there are various ways to book. These include:

In our experience, booking with your hotel tour agent is the easiest option. Prices are pretty much the same no matter who you book with. Expect to pay around $75 per person for the full day tour.

Be sure to have your tickets/booking confirmation ready to show your bus transfer driver when they pick you up.

How long does the Cayo Blanco tour last?

The tour is a full day trip from 9am until 5pm, with around 3 hours on the island. You’ll usually be collected at your hotel between 9am and 9:30am, boarding the catamaran at 10am and departing straight away. Returning to Varadero, you’ll arrive at 4pm and should be back at your hotel before 5pm.

Arriving into Cayo Blanco by boat

Can I stay overnight on the island?

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to stay overnight on the island. Aside from a few locals that look after Cayo Blanco and prepare for the arrival of tourists, it’s completely un-inhabited. If you’re looking to spend more time on the beach, we recommend booking a hotel near Varadero Marina. You then have the option to do a couple of boat trips during your vacation. A private charter boat also allows more time on the island.

The top things to do in Cayo Blanco

The key reason people visit this stunning remote island is to relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery. However, there are a few things you can do on the island if you don’t want to sit out in the sun all day long.

  • There are plenty of sunbeds at Cayo Blanco beach where you can relax in the shade under a cabana. Pick the perfect spot and spend the day sipping on rum cocktails.
  • Explore the surrounding area. You can walk the full stretch of the sandy white beach, venturing away from the tourist centre. You’re likely to come across some animals that live on the island, such as iguanas and hutias. There’s also plenty of tropical plants and untouched areas of beach.
  • If you’re looking for a slightly more adventurous trip, swim offshore and go snorkelling. The further you head away from the beach, the more coral reef you’ll find. The sea is shallow and the current isn’t too bad. However, we do recommend using fins.

Sun loungers and the restaurant on Cayo Blanco

When’s the best time to visit Cayo Blanco?

Cuba boasts all year-round warm temperatures, but it’s best to avoid extremely hot weather and also the wet season. You can visit Cayo Blanco most days of the year as long as tours are running.

The best time to visit is from January to early May. Temperatures are manageable during this period and it’s considered as Cuba’s dry season. If you struggle with heat, try to avoid the summer months from June – August as temperatures are scorching, making it uncomfortable to sit out in the sun.

Our top tips for visiting Cayo Blanco

  • Be sure to book your ticket to Cayo Blanco in advance, especially during the busier months to avoid disappointment. We recommend booking at least 3 days before your planned trip.
  • Bring a beach bag with you that includes sunscreen and towels. All food and drink is includes, so you’ll just need your clothing and toiletries. The catamarans have under-seat storage where you can place all your belongings.
  • We recommend bringing a large thermal flask or steel water bottle with you to keep your drinks cool.
  • Be sure to pack extra toilet roll, as not all public bathrooms will be fully stocked. Hand sanitiser is another great accessory to bring with you.
  • Bring a change of clothes with you. You’ll be in the sun all day, so might want to freshen up mid-way through after being on the beach. The boat has toilets where you can change. Alternatively, you can use the toilets at the restaurant.
  • Bring a snorkel if you want to discover the Cayo Blanco sea life. The catamaran staff provide these free of charge for the boat snorkelling stop, but not for the island
  • If lying out on the sunbeds, try not to leave drinks and food lying around. The island is home to some rodents that will pester you and hang around if they detect a snack.

Walking along the powdery white sand beach

We hope you found our guide to the Cayo Blanco catamaran tour! You can now plan a trip to this stunning island paradise. It’s a day trip that suits beach and boat lovers that want to relax for the day. There isn’t a lot of sightseeing, but the beach itself and on-board boat experience ensures that you have a great time. If you have any other questions about Cayo Blanco or the catamaran trip, leave a comment down below. 😊

Hello, I’m from Canada and will be visiting Varadero at the end of January, just wondering what is the best way for me to book the Cayo Blanco catamaran tour. Also a lot of the info is for hotels but I’m staying at an air bnb, does that make a difference, thank for your time

' src=

Thanks for your message. Hope you’re looking forward to your trip 🙂

You can book the tour on this website here: https://www.civitatis.com/en/varadero/cayo-blanco-trip/

I’d message the provider before booking, and explain you’re staying at an air bnb – it shouldn’t make a difference, but I’d double check to make sure.

Let us know if you need anything else. Susie

Varadero City, Catamaran Ride, and Snorkeling Tour

Days available, languages offered, transportation, mobile ticket.

Your tour begins with a pickup at your hotel or casa particular to the beach. Then, you’ll depart on a catamaran boat ride across the clear, turquoise waters. Eventually, you’ll stop to do a bit of snorkeling — there’s no reef here, but if you bring bread you may get to see some friendly fish.

After your sunny boat ride, you’ll hop in a classic car and see some of the highlights of Varadero. This city is one of the vacation destinations for Cuba’s glitterati in the 1920s, including famed American businessman Irénée du Pont. Once you’ve seen the city, you’ll stop by a historic home — either a former Dupont home or a beautiful seaside restaurant built from stone and wood —for a refreshing Cuban cocktail.

What to Bring

What's included, culinary & cultural encounters, adventure sports, hidden local gems, photo opportunities, mind & body rejuvenation, easy sightseeing, city-life energy, rugged exploration, rest & relaxation, romantic moments, mind-blowing vistas, off-the-beaten-path exploration.

A large and comfortable catamaran will take you off-shore to enjoy the beauty of the turquoise waters surrounding the Varadero’s peninsula; you can relax on the shaded areas or on the nets as you glide gently over the waves.

The first stop is a coral reef where you can enjoy snorkeling (equipment is provided), then the catamaran drops anchor off the gorgeous and virgin beach of Cayo Blanco (a small deserted island) where you will enjoy a delicious lunch with several options (lobster, fish, shrimp, squid, chicken, etc.) while listening to the sound of live traditional Cuban music, and have free time to swim in the ocean, play games, do some non-motorised water sports, or simply relax on the beach.

Then the catamaran sails back to Varadero while you relax on board. Note that this excursion doesn't include interaction with dolphins.

Inclusions : Roundtrip transfer between your hotel and the marina, tour guide, lunch, drinks (open bar) use of snorkeling gear, security equipment for sailing and snorkeling.

Departure : 8:30 am (may vary depending on hotel) Return : 4:00 pm (may vary depending on hotel)

Suggestions on what to wear and bring : • Swimwear and towel • Sun protection: Sunglasses, hat, and sunscreen • Camera • Cash in small denominations for tips • Snorkeling gear (if you prefer to use your own)

Notes: • Subject to weather conditions; in case of bad weather it may be rescheduled or cancelled with full refund. • The sequence of the excursion may be changed • Lobster (langusta) may not be offer for lunch outside the lobster fishing season * Free for children 0 to 6.

Best Time to Charter in Cuba: mid-November through mid-August

While the best time for a yacht charter in Cuba is from December to April, when it’s slightly cooler, the timing of your trip depends entirely on where you want to go.

Whether you want to dance the night away in Havana or spend your days lounging on Cuba’s beautiful beaches, Cuba has so much to do and see. And to make sure you check off all the things on your vacation bucket list when planning your next yacht charter escape to Cuba, make sure you pick the time of year that works best with your itinerary.

Winter Winter is among the best months to visit Cuba — with December, January, and February promising sunny days and cooler temperatures overall. This climate is great for sightseeing. That said, keep in mind that sea breezes at this cooler time of year may make it too cold for some fair-weather travelers; especially for those who plan to spend their days at the beach.

Spring Above all, the best time of the year to visit Cuba is in March and April. These months fall immediately between cooler winter temperatures and summer’s rain and heat, making it the time of year when the climate is most pleasant. That said, the further south and east you go, the more heat, humidity and rain you can expect. This is definitely the most popular time of year in Cuba, so if you’re planning to charter a yacht there, book your tours and excursions well in advance, before they fill up.

Summer Summer rain in Cuba starts in late April and early May, with June to November bringing heavier downpours, storms and once in a while, even a hurricane. As well as being stormy, July and August are also very humid and hot, especially in the more popular cities, like Havana, which you will definitely want to visit.

Fall From August to the end of fall, Cuba — like most of the Caribbean — is most likely to be affected by hurricanes. Yacht charter guests should be careful when planning a trip at this time of year and make sure they have their trip cancellation insurance in place.

Cuba Yacht Charters – Things to Do & See

Sandy beach in Cuba

For reasons we can’t explain, magical Cuba draws you in and doesn’t let you go. On your next yacht charter adventure at sea, discover the magic for yourself.

Cuba is filled with magnificent, sugary-sand beaches

From the ivory, sands shores of Playa Ancón, a water sports hub just minutes from vibrant Trinidad, to the vast, glistening sands of Playa Paraíso and Playa Sirena, Cuba yacht charters take you to plenty of magical beaches to choose from. Looking for something a little quieter, with more space to relax in solitude? Head to the Bay of Pigs. With its rocky coves, clear waters and endless rows of swaying palms, this beach is as historic as it is beautiful.

Havana is a bustling world of its own

There’s no denying that Old Havana is a cultural destination. Perfect for every type of yacht charter guest, Havana is the heart of this iconic island; home to everything from the propaganda-heavy Museum of the Revolution and the swanky Vedado jazz district, to its famous cigars, salsa clubs, the Cuban National Ballet, interesting locals and more. The sounds of Havana, and of all of Cuba, are reason enough to visit. Music in Cuba always gets people on their feet.

You won’t be able to get enough of Cuba’s delicious, hearty food

If you haven’t had Cuban food, you’re missing out — and no one does it quite like the island itself. Cuban staples include ropa vieja, a stewed and shredded beef; ceviche, a lime-marinated raw fish; light, flaky Cuban bread; cafesito; minty, rum-filled mojitos and more. Ask your yacht’s chef to prepare Cuban cuisine for you and your charter guests and also head onshore and try some local restaurants.

Cuba offers a peek into a complicated history

As rampant as Cuban politics have been, its towns have been that much more beautiful. A colonial haven, Cuba’s UNESCO cities are still a throwback to the pirate days of the Caribbean, where grandiose squares and cobblestone streets are lined with colorful shops, restaurants, and homes. Head outside of the cities, and you’ll find emerald hills sloping into vast tobacco plantations, the core of one of its most historic exports: Cuban cigars.

It’s time to experience all of the charm and magic of luxury Cuba yacht charters.

Cuba awaits; book your yacht rental with us today!

72  Crewed Luxury Yachts for Charter in Cuba

Cuba Yacht Charters

A Cuba luxury yacht charter offers something for everyone, from the most adventurous of travellers pursuing action-packed hours of exploring the many dive sites to those looking to unfurl on sun-kissed beaches for days on end. Its diverse culture, unforgettable scenery and sprinkling of world-class restaurants makes it a comprehensive destination for experiencing the freedom of a superyacht vacation.

Cuba Luxury Yacht Charter Guide

The Caribbean island country of Cuba possesses a number of secret charms which lie beneath the surface of its cigars and classic cars. Indeed, as a charter destination it is one which proudly wears the souvenirs of its uniquely complex history. From the architecture passed down from the Spanish colonists to the unrivalled collection of Art Deco pieces in its various galleries, visitors to Cuba will find themselves immersed in a singularly fascinating culture. Located a relatively short distance from the Bahamas , visitors can expect an enjoyably balmy climate throughout the year, with particularly dry winters and hot summers. All set to the the sheer backdrop of both countryside and unspoiled beaches, relaxing when travelling to this destination could not be easier, and nor could refreshing oneself – the cuisine and cocktail scene is up there with the very best in the world.

Yacht Charters in Cuba

Obviously, when embarking on a luxury charter vacation in Cuba it’s essential to visit the colorful capital of Havana. Home to the island nation’s most notorious bars and restaurants, the city is alive with the sound of music and the sight of countless classic cars. An ongoing festival of sorts, the vibrant nightlife in the city presents the perfect opportunity to sample some of the signature cocktails and rums on offer. It’s not all city-living, however, and the waters surrounding Cuba are sure to ensure that charter guests will get the very most out of their superyacht. Indeed, with miles of coral reef fringing the coasts, as well as countless leading dive spots, there’s every reason to enjoy time cruising between days spent getting amongst the Cuban atmosphere. So, whether it’s getting familiar with the marine life or getting to grips with the latest towable water toys, guests are sure to find everything they require in and around Cuba.

Charter Itineraries in Cuba

With such close proximity to South America as well as the Caribbean, Cuba can be visited as part of an itinerary in either of these regions and is an established stop-off for those chartering around the Bahamas. However, due to being sparsely populated and replete with breathtaking coastlines, the waters surrounding Cuba are becoming increasingly popular as an alternative charter ground for those after a fresh and unique experience.

The Canarreos Archipelago, for instance, treats visitors to over 350 secluded islets for unwinding in a fashion which simply cannot be enjoyed in many other destinations. For a few days of island hopping, the Jardines de Rey, a registered UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, is entirely spectacular. Indeed its string of cays and islands- many of which are uninhabited- include a vast array of Caribbean-style beaches and fascinating towns and seafront villages that are renowned for their welcoming locals.

Other areas which have attracted praise from critics include the small resort island of Cayo Largo del Sur and the strategically situated Marina Trinidad which combines outstanding facilities in an environment wholly in keeping with those who enjoy the yachting lifestyle.

Yachting in Cuba’s Sapphire Sea

Please send me more info and current offers for your Yachting in Cuba’s Sapphire Sea.

Travel Cuba in Style - Yachting!

Discover a Caribbean paradise on this Cuba yacht tour on the islands of southern Cuba, far from any crowds but rich in learning and discovery!  Sail with us aboard an exclusive Cuban catamaran to the Canarreos Archipelago to kayak, snorkel and explore this island wonderland.  Crystal clear waters where the healthiest reef systems of the entire Caribbean beckon us below to observe multiple species of tropical fish and coral and even sunken ships!  On the surface we choose different routes each day based on your interests.  We also bring a couple of stand up paddle boards on this yacht trip for those wishing to explore.  As we paddle, the rich island bird-life captures our attention.  Egrets, herons, gulls and osprey to name a few. We also see land iguanas and, on the island of Cayo Antiles, the only monkeys in Cuba!

You will not miss Havana!  Our Cuba yacht tour ends on the sea but begins in Havana where mix in some walking tours of the city, enjoy a classic car ride, visit famous museums and spend some time highly-respected marine biologists that share their knowledge of the reefs and islands we’ll be visiting.

From Havana we head southeast to the “Pearl of the South,” Cienfuegos, and board our private catamaran limited to just six-eight passengers per departure. This is a fantastic adventure filled with meaningful interactions with local Cuban people!

We set sail at night and in the morning awake to start our week of island paddling, learning, snorkeling and more.  In the words of guide book author Christopher Baker, the islands here are “Sprinkled like diamonds across a sapphire sea” and are “a yachting and diving paradise.”  Most of the islands we explore are only accessible by boat, and few make it to this remote corner of Cuba.  We visit a biological research station, a remote beach restaurant, mangrove lagoons and white-sand beaches with silk-soft sand.  At the end of our Cuba catamaran tour, we return to Cienfuegos where direct flights return you to the USA.

*Transfers back to Havana (3 hours) can also be arranged.

Yachting in Cuba's Sapphire Sea

Commercial flights from the United States to Cuba are the standard mode of travel between the two countries. We ask that our guests book their own travel between the U.S. and Cuba.  This tour will begin in Havana at approximately 11:00 AM on Day 1. Our meeting point on Day 1 will be Havana's Jose Marti International Airport where your Tour Leader and local guides will meet you to begin your tour.

If you are unable to fly all the way to Havana on Day 1 with an arrival before 11:00 AM, we recommend that you consider a "Day 0" for your tour and choose either of the following:

Travel to Havana on Day 0.   With this option, we recommend that you overnight in a casa particular (a private home with rooms for rent) of your choosing and make your way back to the Havana Airport to meet your Tour Leader, guides, and fellow travelers the next morning.

Travel to Miami on Day 0.   With this option, we recommend that you overnight in Miami and take a flight to Havana on the morning of Day 1.

We are happy to offer guidance with scheduling your travel to and from Cuba, and our office staff is ready to answer any questions you may have.

Note: Travel in Cuba requires a flexible attitude. Our days are full, and as required by U.S. law, we have a full-time agenda of Support for the Cuban People activities.  Cuba has it’s own beat and things don’t always run on time. The activities and visits listed are not guaranteed but we endeavor to do our best to provide the content intent of this SUpport for the Cuban People program.  Visiting developing countries can be eye-opening and life-changing, and hopefully visiting Cuba is both. Accommodations may not be up to the standards you are used to.  Sometimes the hot water or air conditioning doesn’t work.  We ask all our guests to appreciate the authenticity of your cultural encounters as well as the people, food, culture, and adventures that are exceptional in their difference.  Our local guide, along with your Cuba Unbound Tour Leader promise to do their best to make this a fascinating and enlightening experience.

Environmental Research Center and Havana

Our first stop on the Cuba yacht tour is at Cuba’s most renowned environmental education and research center where we meet our first guest-lecturer.  We are introduced to the area where we will be traveling by yacht, and learn about Cuba’s national preservation system of natural areas and particularly, marine conservation areas.  In addition, we learn about joint Cuba-US marine research projects that have been going on many years.

After lunch we have an information and intriguing walking tour of old Havana.  Mostly a pedestrian area due to the narrow streets, dozens of colonial buildings tell tales of swashbuckling invaders and eager colonists seeking to both sow and reap the island’s many rewards.  We visit the classic Plaza de la Catedral, charming and oozing-with-history Plaza de Armas, serenely beautiful Plaza de San Francisco and the carefully-restored Plaza Vieja. Our local guide spins yarns and intriguing facts to bring to life these historic, yet relevant places that anchor the city.

Later in the afternoon we check into our hotel and then head for dinner at one of the city’s finer paladars (private restaurants) where you enjoy a Cuban feast.  After dinner, those with energy may wish to enjoy some of Havana’s lively music scene, perhaps with a visit to the ultra-hip Fabrique de Artes Cubana, or a jazz or salsa club.

ACCOMMODATION : Havana Casa

MEALS INCLUDED : Dinner

Research Center, Art Project, Museum of the Revolution

We return in the morning to learn more from our friends and mentors at the research center to prepare us better for life on a Cuba catamaran.  Today we drill down into more specifics regarding some of the marine species we are likely to encounter, notably including various fish and corals.  Because of the lack of development along Cuba’s coastline, the waters surrounding the islands are the healthiest in the entire Caribbean.  Fidel Castro was an avid scuba diver and led an effort to conserve some of the most remarkable reef areas.

After our morning educational sessions, we head a bit further west to visit the art project of Fusterlandia, created by Jose Fuster.  An entire neighborhood is adorned with his colorful mosaics and creations inspired by Gaudy and Picasso.  We enjoy lunch at a nearby paladar.  Then it’s time to learn about Cuba’s history with an excellent guided tour of the Museum of the Revolution.  The story of Cuba’s political scene prior to 1959, and the ultimate victory of the Revolution is told through a series of rooms with photographs and memorabilia.

We return to the hotel, and a bit later meet for dinner at another fabulous paladar to talk about the upcoming Cuba yachting adventure.  After dinner there’s time to stroll along the malecon, Havana’s social center with beautiful views of the sea and city skyline.

MEALS INCLUDED : Lunch, Dinner

Finca Vigia, Transfer to Cienfuegos, Catamaran Orientaiton and Embarkment

After breakfast we step back in time with a visit to Ernest Hemingway’s house, Finca Vigia, where the author lived for almost 20 years and wrote some of his most famous works.  It seems the author walked away just last week, as his books, papers and furnishings rest as if waiting for his return.  From here we leave Havana, driving on the main road southeast towards Cienfuegos.  On the way we stop at the Criadero de Cocodrillos, a project run by Cuba’s Flora y Fauna (similar to the US National Park Service) that breeds the rare and endemic Cuban crocodile.

On arrival in Cienfuegos, we have a guided walking tour of this UNESCO World Heritage designated city.  In 1819, under the blessing of the Spanish crown, 137 French settlers arrived, coming from Louisiana and the Bordeaux region of France, to settle the city.  The deep-water port became the economic engine of this charismatic city that is the port for our comfortable Cuba catamaran.  In the late afternoon we board our home for the next six days, have an orientation briefing and dinner, and later in the night (weather permitting) set out under the Caribbean sky, heading southwest on our Cuban yacht to the beautiful archipelago.

Joining us is our Cuban captain and sailor.  Over the next six days there will be plenty of time to learn about their lives and thoughts about Cuba, its history, culture and politics.  This is the ultimate in meaningful interaction with Cuban people as our small group has these special days to converse and learn.  As we travel, we experience pristine reefs, beautiful optics, disconnection from the distractions of daily life and paddles that can be easily tailored to your interests and skill levels.

ACCOMMODATION : Private Catamaran

MEALS INCLUDED : Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

First Day at Sea, Kayking in Islands

We awaken at anchor, set among a tranquil bay for our first glimpse at this spectacular marine ecosystem.  After breakfast we cruise a bit further, then lower kayaks into the water for our first paddle in the islands.  We continue a bit further west before finding a suitable anchorage for the night.  The day ends with what will now be our end-of-day routine.  A celebratory beverage while watching the sunset, followed by dinner on board and then a deep slumber in the Cuba catamaran.

Meals on board are fresh, delicious and bountiful.  Our captain and sailor double as cook and server, providing typical Cuban meals of fresh seafood such as fish and lobster, rice, salads and more.  There’s a full-bar on board and they also mix-up thirst-quenching mojitos, Cuba libres and other favorites.

Yachting, Kayaking, Snorkeling, Cayo Largo

For four more days, we yacht among the islands of the Cuban archipelago.  Weather and winds determine our exact stopping points and itinerary.  We stop on sugar-white beaches.  We paddle among mangroves to the rhythm of bird song and on waters the color of turquoise and jade.  We stop at Cayo Largo to visit a biological research station and meet the local scientists to learn about their work and discoveries. This is where Henry Morgon, the legendary English privateer, brought his ship for repairs and in the area are several sunken galleons.

From Cayo Largo we head further west to explore and anchor at Cayo Rico, Cayo Iguana, Cayo del Rosario and Cayo Cantiles.  Our days are mixed with paddling, snorkeling, beachcombing and relaxing on board.  By Thursday we turn the Cuba catamaran back to the east, stopping as we journey when a remote cove beckons.

Return to Port at Cienfuegos

We have started our return to the east towards Cienfuegos.  By late afternoon we’ve started our 8-10 hour crossing across the Caribbean, arriving in Cienfuegos in the wee dawn of Saturday morning to end this incredible Cuba yacht tour.

Adios Cuba!

It’s time to pack up and move off the boat by 11:00 am.  We will provide one ground transfer up to Santa Clara for return flights to the US. Santa Clara is served once-a-day for both JetBlue and American Airlines. For those returning to Havana we will arrange transportation (three hours, not included) and if desired, overnight accommodations.

Or, even better, join one of our weekly land-based tours!  We offer a sea kayaking tour, or a multisport tour starting on Sundays, a walking tour featuring Cuba’s National Parks on Saturdays, or two different bicycle tours that also start on Saturdays.  If you combine two tours we offer a 10% discount!

MEALS INCLUDED : Breakfast

Day Days: 5-8

Faq & more, do i need any experience to join the kayaking adventure.

Whether you are an avid sea kayaker or stepping into a sea kayak for your first time, you’ll enjoy these incredible trips. For those new to the sport, kayaking is easy to learn in the sheltered waters that we visit, and we provide all of the kayaking equipment and guidance needed. In addition, we keep our groups small so that you not only travel intimately among nature, but receive the necessary attention from our guides as well. Your guides will give you an introduction to paddling and you’ll have plenty of chances to practice. We take plenty of paddle breaks to observe the biodiversity and learn about the area from our knowledgeable guides. We do recommend that you get some paddling in before your trip as kayaking uses muscles you may not know you have. Getting a little experience and building some strength will help your enjoyment of the trip.

Will single kayaks be available?

We have both double and single kayaks in Cuba. At this time we are not offering the choice for a single kayak rental. Rather, we plan to bring between one and three singles on each tour to be shared among participants, depending on expressed interest.

What kind of equipment or gear should I bring?

All of the kayaking equipment is provided as well as personal flotation devices and dry bags. Just bring your clothing and personal gear. Do bring snorkeling gear and gloves. A complete packing list will be sent to you upon reservation. We highly suggest traveling “light” for this adventure.

Do I need to bring my own snorkel and fins?

While snorkel gear is sometimes available for rent in Cuba, we advise that you bring your own snorkel and mask (fins and wet-suits not required). Your own equipment also ensures a better fit and better hygiene, as well as prescriptions if needed.

What is the food like on board?

Meals on board are fresh, delicious and bountiful.  Our captain and sailor double as cook and server, providing typical Cuban meals of fresh seafood such as fish and lobster, rice, simple salads and more.  There’s a full-bar on board and they also mix-up thirst-quenching mojitos, Cuba libres and other favorites.

Can US citizens legally travel to Cuba?

Yes, you can travel to Cuba as a US citizen! Although, the United States is the only country that restricts its citizens from traveling to Cuba for touristic reasons, however, the U.S. does allow travel to Cuba under one of 12 permitted travel categories. Of these categories, most of our travelers are traveling under either "Support for the Cuban People" or "Educational People-to-People" travel.

For more information on Cuba travel entry requirements,  please see here .

Can I drink the Water in Cuba?

Generally it's best to drink filtered tap water or bottled water.  In an effort to reduce the use of single-use plastic, we encourage you to pack a wide-mouth water bottle with a filter built in.  There are many brands available.

Is ice safe to have in my drinks?

If you are getting a drink at a hotel bar, or other bar establishment, the ice is most likely made with filtered or bottled water, so should not cause any issues.

Can I eat salads in Cuba?

Cubans pride themselves on proper hygiene and food handling.  The restaurants we use on our tours are very good and eating any salads or raw vegetables that are served is fine.

Greenberg and Joy say their goal was to disrupt the tender segment with an out-of-the-box concept that could cater to the most demanding clients in the yachting industry. The resulting design, which is kind of like a cross between a support vessel, a floating garage, and a tender, offers seafarers an exciting new way to store and transport luxury vehicles. The studio says each unit will be fully bespoke, ensuring owners can create the perfect home for their fine automobiles.

Falcon Shuttle

It is not uncommon for catamarans to serve as shadow vessels to larger, superyachts. Multihulls are generally more stable than monohulls because their two hulls provide a wide and sturdy base. They offer a large amount of real estate onboard, too. Microsoft cofounder Bill Gates reportedly owned a 224-foot support cat , for example. GreenJoy didn’t share any details regarding the shuttle’s length or volume but the fact it can comfortably accommodate a car means that it must be at least 20 feet or more. That is quite a bit smaller than Bill’s but should provide enough space for your favorite ride.

The yard didn’t share any information in terms of propulsion, either. Falcon offers tenders with hybrid diesel-electric propulsion, so perhaps buyers could opt for a sustainable shuttle that burns less fuel than traditional gas-guzzling runabouts.

GreenJoy will present the Falcon Shuttle at the 2024 Monaco Yacht Show, which is set to take place in the iconic Port Hercules from September 25 to 28. It won’t be the only exciting debut, either: Robb Report has compiled a list of the best new superyachts launching at the prestigious event. Best get yourself to France.

Bering Yachts introduces new 24m catamaran model BC80 with two configurations

Turkish shipyard Bering Yachts has announced a new 24-metre catamaran model known as BC80 at this year's Cannes Yachting Festival.

The yacht is the largest in its class at 24 metres and is joined by the 18.9-metre BC60 and the BC70, which measures 21.3 metres. Owners can choose between two layouts: the flybridge version and the solar-powered version.

The first has been billed as a "more classic yachting experience", featuring an expansive 82-square-metre flybridge and 1,000 square feet of solar panels which can generate over 20kW of energy on a sunny day. The yacht can then remain at anchor for extended periods without relying on generators.

Meanwhile, the solar-powered version is suited to "the environmentally conscious adventurer", with a massive solar panel array, high-capacity lithium-ion battery bank and a state-of-the-art "kick-saving" system. This system significantly reduces generator dependence and allows guests to enjoy silent cruising for up to 24 hours without running the generators.

The BC80's impressive interior volume is aided by an expansive 10.8-metre beam, giving guests the "ultimate three-decker experience" with a spacious main deck with 2.4 metres of headroom, a dedicated upper deck with flybridge option, and a comfortable lower deck. In terms of accommodation, owners can choose between four, five or six cabins with the option of a master suite on the main deck.

The standard layout features a galley positioned forward on the main deck, while all guest accommodations are located in the sponsons (hull extensions) for extra privacy and reduced noise.

Powered by a pair of Volvo Penta engines, the yacht will reach top speeds of 15 knots and a cruising speed of 10 knots.

This follows the news that the steel hull of its 39.5-metre B125 model had been transported from Istanbul to Antalya ahead of outfitting . Delivery is anticipated for September 2024.
