Mid City Yacht Club

Mid City Yacht Club — MCYC, for short — is a neighborhood pub, a good dining destination, and a sports bar all in one spot. Located in the heart of Mid City, just behind home plate at the storied St. Patrick playground, MCYC opened just after Hurricane Katrina. The bar was rebuilt with reclaimed wood from local homes and business.

And today, MCYC is a favorite spot for people in Mid City, Lakeview, Metairie, Gentilly, and beyond.

Enter the bar from St. Patrick Street, and walk into a room that sets just the right tone. It is comforting and feels instantly familiar: dark woods on the walls, and atop bar, small high-top tables aside one set of windows, old maps of fishing grounds that surround our city along the other, and then? There’s the outside; you gotta see this.

The backyard patio is surrounded by a well-built fence which helps the space function as another large room. Good thing, too because the weather in Nola permits outdoor drinking and dining most months in the year.

Book a private or semi-private event in their Boat House or on the Courtyard. Join one of the many leagues that play year round at St. Patrick’s park (kickball, softball, dodgeball). Come for beer specials, frozen cocktails, and great pub grub.

The menu here includes one of my favorites — roast beef debris sliders. It also features garlic fries, a delicious pork green chili bowl, and Yachtchos (one of their most popular items). This is an order of house fried tortilla chips, topped with homemade cheese sauce, veggie black beans, jalapeño, fresh habanero crema, pico de gallo and green onions. Wanna kick it up a notch? Add spicy crumbled chorizo, shredded pork, or some of that beef debris. This is a great dish to share.

I like coming here before late afternoon Saints games. It’s also known as the home of the Cajun Buckeyes. That’s the Alumni / Fan Club chapter for The Ohio State University (but, hey … everyone’s friends here, don’t hold that against them).

Since MCYC opened it’s turned into The Cheers of the neighborhood. Owned and managed by folks who live within walking distance, staffed by a good team who pitches in to keep the area safe, and community minded. This is a good place to come if you want to have a business lunch because the courtyard is so accommodating, it’s a great place for happy hour drinks, and one of our go to spots on a weekend afternoon. – scott mccrossen

Mid City Yacht Club

The Mid City Yacht Club is a neighborhood bar built in a building that was established as Savaggio’s Grocery store in the mid-1930′s. Savaggio’s Grocery had a bar built in the back of the grocery store from the day it was opened. The grocery store was converted to only a bar in the late 1950′s or early 1960′s. It has been a number of differently named drinking establishments, catering to the softball park across the street, St. Patrick Park. The most recent establishment was Extra Innings, which went underwater by a couple of feet when Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans on August 29, 2005. It just so happened that a friend of the bar owners, Mark Melan, was cruising the neighborhood in a pirogue picking up people from their houses in the days following the storm. As he was riding by the bar in his boat, he jested that “they should name that place the Mid City Yacht Club.” And so its recent history began. Mark’s friend Ben Markey and his wife Stefanie purchased the bar in late 2006, with the establishment shuttered and flooded, unopened. Ben and his friends gutted the bar to the studs and he invited his friends MJ and Jeremy Sauer to be partners and help him manage the renovation. The renovation occurred from November of 2006 through June of 2007. The renovation used as much reclaimed Katrina wood as possible, including wood from MJ and Jeremy’s flooded home. On the ceiling and the bar top, was reused floorboards from MJ and Jeremy’s house and in other places they used their baseboards and gutter molding. The wainscoting for the bar was made out of the discarded doors of McMahon funeral home which were solid cypress doors. Lots of great old character was discarded in trash heaps after the storm, and the Mid City Yacht Club’s carpenters found as many ways as they could to work it into the finish work rather than see it go to the landfills.

Opened in 2019, the Tower Beach Club is a 4300 sq ft indoor/outdoor event venue with 270 degree panoramic views of Mission Bay - the perfect wedding reception venue, private party, or corporate venue. Our panoramic doors allow the event venue to be either fully opened to the outside, or closed up to separate the indoor space from the exterior deck. 

If you're looking for a venue that embodies the Southern California beach vibe, it's hard to find a better spot than the Tower Beach Club. 

 With its open-air bar and massive beachfront patio, the event venue is a quintessential high-end beach club without the high-end price tag. Guests booking the event venue for private events, corporate events, or wedding receptions are welcome to bring their own booze, food, and catering in order to cut costs. Unlike many event venues and wedding reception venues, chairs and tables for 120, as well as 8 high top cocktail tables, are included free of charge with venue rental. 

Our private venue is just as adept at hosting a 30-50 person corporate event or off-site meeting as it is hosting a 200 person wedding reception or private party. With a city parks permit, the adjacent beachfront lawn with palm tree backdrop can be used for wedding ceremonies.
