Les îles de la Société s'étendent sur une distance de 400 milles dans la partie la plus occidentale de la Polynésie et forment sa région la plus importante et la plus peuplée.

L'archipel est composé en majeure partie d'îles hautes, d'origine volcanique et le plus souvent entourées d'un lagon navigable formant de remarquables abris naturels qui donnent à ces îles un caractère particulièrement accueillant. Destination exceptionnelle pour les amateurs de plongée et de voile, le meilleur moyen de découvrir cette région est sans nul doute à bord d'un catamaran.

Vous débuterez votre croisière de notre base située dans la baie de Apoit i , au nord de l'île de Raiatea , dans les  îles Sous-le-Vent .

Les îIes Sous-le-Vent sont composées de cinq îles hautes très diverses : Huahine , très prisée pour son atmosphère détendue et qui s'enorgueillit du plus grand marae pré-européen de Polynésie française, Raiatea , "l'île sacrée", lieu de légende où s'étend le plus important des marae antiques, Tahaa , qui partage avec Raiatea un lagon commun, Bora Bora et son célèbre lagon, et  Maupiti , la plus reculée, petite et moins développée, mais tout aussi splendide.

Une façon unique de découvrir les îles Sous-le-Vent

Vous quitterez la base de départ sous le regard bienveillant du mont Tapioi (244m) qui domine la ville de Uturoa, la principale agglomération de l'île et capitale des îles Sous-le-Vent.

L'île jumelle de Tahaa , au nord de Raiatea  est enserrée dans le même lagon. L'île offre une passe à l'ouest et une passe à l'est. Une escale dans la profonde baie de Haamene ou aux abords des îlots de Tuuahine et Tehotu sont de superbes moments de navigation. Tahaa produit 80% de la vanille récoltée en Polynésie Française.

Vous pourrez ensuite parcourir une vingtaine de milles et découvrir la belle Huahine, constituée en fait de deux îles séparées par un chenal étroit. Ses reliefs sont doux et ses pentes verdoyantes. La côte est sauvage et magnifique à partir de la baie de Haavai. On peut choisir, en cours de route, des mouillages à proximité de la côte, en face des nombreuses plages de sables blancs, ou bien près du récif pour y pratiquer la plongée sous-marine. Port Bourayne est une superbe et profonde baie.

Retour plein ouest pour une belle escale dans le lagon des îles jumelles de Raiatea  et de Tahaa  avant de naviguer, cap au nord ouest, vers la sublime Bora-Bora , à moins de 15 milles de Tahaa . C'est la plus connue et la plus mythique des îles de Polynésie. Sa montagne centrale, le mont Otemanu haut de 727 m, est entourée d'une couronne de motu qui n'offre qu'une seule passe. Bora Bora offre de superbes hôtels de rêve sur pilotis. Le navigateur trouvera de nombreux mouillages accueillants et ne manquez pas la mini-croisière dans le chenal dit "des motu" à l'est de l'île.

En quittant Bora-Bora et si les conditions de navigation le permettent, vous naviguerez plein ouest vers la ravissante île de  Maupiti . Dominée par une montagne abrupte de 380 m., l'île centrale, où se trouve le village, est enchâssée dans un lagon vert émeraude ceinturé dans sa partie nord par un collier de motu couverts de cocotiers. L'île offre une passe unique au sud.

Si vous disposez d'un peu plus de temps, vous pouvez étendre votre croisière à destination des îles Marquises : Te Henua Enana, "terre des hommes", ainsi les Marquisiens désignent-ils leur archipel, le plus septentrional de la Polynésie française, situé à quelque 1 400 km au nord-est de Papeete. Ici, pas de lagon, mais des blocs de lave surgis au milieu du Pacifique, striés de profondes vallées : en marge du "mythe tahitien", les Marquises s'offrent dans leur rudesse et leur authenticité. Ces terres de légendes abondent en vestiges archéologiques. Bien qu'appartenant au même creuset que les autres Polynésiens, les Marquisiens ont élaboré une culture originale : chaque clan (huata) occupait une vallée considérée comme son henua (territoire) ; l'art et l'artisanat y avaient atteint un très haut degré de perfection, en particulier les tatouages. C'est également là que la sculpture a pris les formes les plus achevées. Chaque île abrite des formations musicales, des groupes de danse et des artisans réputés. N'ayant pas de lagons, l'île offre moins de possibilités de mouillages. Vous pouvez aussi décider de rejoindre l'archipel des Tuamotu à 300km au nord-est de Tahiti.

Difficile de donner un avis sur le "paradis". On peut y aller 3 semaines ou une éternité…

10 à 18 jours de location sont parfaits pour découvrir les 5 îles. 

Commencez par vous reposer et vous mettre au rythme polynésien : "inactif". Vous serez ensuite plus décontracté et disponible pour absorber toutes les beautés de la croisière. Un séjour en hôtel après la croisière aurait un goût un peu fade comme un bateau bloqué, envasé ! Bora Bora n'étant plus aussi calme que dans le passé, profitez de votre passage pour bien choisir le moment pour rejoindre la passe difficile vous permettant de rentrer dans le lagon de Maupiti.

Croisière en voilier-catamaran aux îles sous le vent avec skipper / équipage

Une croisière avec équipage ou en l ocation catamaran avec skipper dans les Îles sous le Vent s'organise au départ de Raiatea ou de Bora Bora au choix et sur une formule de 8 à 12 jours en one way par exemple : Raiatea, Huahine, Tahaa, Bora Bora, Maupiti, Bora Bora.

L'équipage polynésien  sera aux petits soins pour vous faire découvrir leur archipel et toutes les beautés qui le composent. La croisière est tranquille avec des distances entre les îles de 3 à 4 heures maximum. La mer est peu agitée et les lagons calmes comme des lacs. Pour cette croisière à la carte, vous passerez environ 2 jours sur chaque île, alternant de courtes navigations, de magnifiques mouillages pour les plaisirs balnéaires et quelques exclusions à terre.

Climat et navigation aux îles sous le vent

La navigation dans les îles Sous-le-Vent n'offre aucune difficulté particulière. Pas de dangers isolés, peu de courants pouvant rendre la navigation aléatoire ou de forte mer. Toutefois la mer est souvent hachée dans les chenaux entre les îles.

Les vents dominants de secteur est permettent de naviguer à la voile dans des conditions idéales et les distances entre les îles (20 à 30 milles) permettent de passer d'une île à l'autre de jour. C'est un endroit idéal pour la plaisance.

En général les passes d'accès aux lagons sont larges, profondes et presque toujours praticables. Les courants dans les passes sont généralement faibles.

Sur la base d'une dizaine de jours de location au départ de Raiatea, naviguer à travers les îles Sous-le-Vent est un moment inoubliable.
