Below Deck Sailing Yacht Captain Glenn Shephard

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 2 Premiere Recap: Come Sail Croatia!

By Glenn Rowley

Ahoy yachties! Welcome to Season 2 of Below Deck Sailing Yacht ! Just one week after closing out Season 8 of the flagship franchise, we’re headed to Croatia aboard Parsifal III with Captain Glenn Shephard . Who is just nothing but a Canadian sweetheart and probably my favorite of the three Below Deck captains. And I promise that’s not just because of my obvious bias because we share the same name. He really is the best. Croatia, as a location, is also the best. And if the last time we were here is any indication (for Below Deck Mediterranean ‘s iconic second season), we’re in for quite a ride.

Personally I’m thrilled to be covering Season 2 because I know a lot of people may have slept on Season 1, or didn’t it a chance. I didn’t watch it at first either. In fact, it was actually my very first binge of quarantine. Which is insane to think about now that it’s officially March and we’ve been doing this for a year now. But needless to say, I fell in love with the show. And it opened the door to me spending more time than I’d like to admit during the last year revisiting past seasons of both Below Deck and Below Deck Med as a way to escape and self-soothe during the pandemic.

In addition to a new location, we also have a completely new crew! And uniforms! They’re orange now. On one hand, that’s a bit surprising considering Captain Glenn ‘s close relationship with Paget Berry and Ciara Duggan , last season’s first officer and female deckhand who are now happily engaged. On the other, it’s great. Because quite frankly, no one — and I mean no one — needed another season of Jenna MacGillivray as chief stew. That was a huge casting misfire if I ever saw one. Let’s face it, she was certainly no Kate Chastain or Hannah Ferrier . I will miss Adam Glick and Madison Stalker , though the former seemed to be quite done with his days in yachting after last season on Parsifal…

Below Deck Sailing Yacht

Instead, we’ve got Daisy Kelliher , a third-generation Irish yachtie, as the new chief stew. The sunny blonde comes from a long line of sailors. Her grandpa even competed for Ireland in the Olympics back in 1964. So there’s definitely pressure on her to live up to her legacy. For Ireland! We also have a female chef in Natasha De Bourg , which is always great to see. (Crossing our fingers the Trinidad native is more Anastasia Surmava than Mila Kolomeitseva .) Rounding out the interior is second stew Dani Soares from Brazil and third stew Alli Dore from Melbourne, Australia.

The deck team this season will be led by first officer Gary King , whose lion’s mane of hair will surely be shaken a million times this season in his confessionals. (For the record, I’m not sure why Sailing Yacht has first officers instead of the bosuns we’ve come to expect in other iterations of the franchise. After recapping multiple seasons and watching even more, it’s almost hilarious how little I know about actual yachting.) He’s joined by Jean-Luc Cerza Lanaux , a 6′ 7” junior deckhand with a massively heinous back tattoo and Sydney Zaruba , the lone female deckhand from the exotic land of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. There’s also chief engineer Colin Macrae , because in the Below Deck Sailing Yacht world engineers are part of the show. For the record, I like his long locks better than Gary’s.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Captain Glenn Shephard

The first day on board is filled with introductions, preparations and lots of organizing to get the boat charter ready. Captain Glenn sets the ground rules for the season in the first crew meeting. But he’s really hands off and easy-going. Especially compared to some of his micromanaging counterparts in other series. The crew cabins on Parsifal III are much more cramped than on a motor yacht, with three of the female crew bunking together and Gary sharing a room with Captain Glenn. See? Down-to-earth! Tell me another captain would ever share a cabin for an entire season.

Glenn also holds the first preference sheet meeting with Daisy , Natasha and Gary . It all seems fairly standard to kick off the season. Except one thing. One of the guests is vegan! Like, so vegan that she refuses to have any meat on board. Not even for the other guests who, you know, aren’t vegan. But I guess they can have seafood? While this seems more than a little inconsiderate to the other guests’ dining preferences, it’s no problem for Natasha, who appears to be very no nonsense. She’s happy to cook whatever the guests request. Just get out of her way, let her do her job and keep the hysterics to a minimum, thanks.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht

The other issue with the bunks is that poor Jean-Luc simply does not fit in his bed. At 6’7”, the deckhand happens to be a full seven inches taller than the bed frame’s length. Remarkably, he claims this has never happened before on any boat he’s worked on. But it means he barely gets any sleep the first night. Is Jean-Luc not going to sleep all season?? The next morning, he’s exhausted. And makes the first blunder of the season.

Cleaning down the deck, he grabs a bottle of solvent…and inadvertently pours gasoline all over the deck. Twenty minutes before the guests are set to arrive. Oops. It turns out not to be entirely Jean-Luc ‘s fault; someone had put gas in a cleaning bottle. But not a great way to make a first impression. Thankfully, the crew frantically gets the spill cleaned up thanks to the magic of oil absorbers with just four minutes to spare.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht

The crew changes into their also-orange polos just in time for the charter guests arrival. As they greet the crew, Glenn explains how this season works. Turns out, the guests have to undergo a full quarantine between arriving in Croatia and boarding the boat. And I assume lots of rigorous coronavirus testing. We’re basically filming the show in a self-contained, COVID-free bubble. And the crew, who are all single, won’t be able to leave the boat off-charter either.

After a quick tour, we’re off and the first charter has begun! And also as soon as Parsifal leaves the marina, Captain Glenn cuts the engines and raises the sails for the first time. He even lets Sydney steer while the interior rushes to stow everything below deck. Honestly, it will never not be so cool to see the sailing action take place. It’s breathtaking and part of what makes this iteration of Below Deck so unique and fascinating.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht

Sailing to Stipanska Bay, Natasha serves her first dinner of beetroot carpaccio and tuna tartare. Somehow it’s suddenly 8 p.m. Dinner is well-received; Natasha gets her first gold star of the season. But by 9 p.m., most of the guests are hammered, with one chasing Daisy around while playing a harmonica. It was supposed to be a celebration of the female primary’s dad, who recently passed away. But everyone else is so drunk and obnoxious that she storms off and goes to bed in a huff.

The next morning, it’s time for a reset. Though a tiff emerges between Daisy and Natasha over breakfast. The guests would rather sail all morning than have a proper sit-down meal. But Natasha’s already been prepping and doesn’t take too kindly to finding out Daisy hasn’t even set the table. Which, to Daisy’s credit, wouldn’t make much sense if they just have to stow everything to sail. But Natasha isn’t keen on serving breakfast in the guests’ hands. Eventually Daisy gives in. They’re sitting down for breakfast before sailing. But all I can think is that it’s 7:30 in the morning and there’s already a disagreement…

After breakfast and a lively morning sail, dolphins appear off the port bow. Meanwhile Gary reprimands a sleeping Jean-Luc for not polishing the entire boat during his six-hour late shift. Four miles from Stipanska, the boat anchors in Livka for an afternoon of swimming and water toys. Now awake, Jean-Luc is put in charge of watching the guests paddleboarding. (Crew eyes always need to be on guests in the water.) But instead he gets distracted chatting with the female primary, who wants to set him up with her oldest daughter. And suddenly, the paddleboarders are nowhere to be found.

At the same time, Gary ‘s in the crew mess complaining to Daisy about Jean-Luc . It looks like our giant deckhand is earning the label of weakest link on deck in the first officer’s eyes. Though Daisy’s quick to point out he’s not sleeping on account of the bunk issue, which Gary acknowledges is kind of a massive problem. But the episode ends with Jean-Luc out in the tender, shouting the guests’ names as he frantically searches for them. This doesn’t look good, Jean-Luc. It doesn’t look good at all…

TELL US – WHAT DID YOU THINK OF THE BELOW DECK SAILING YACHT PREMIERE PREMIERE? WHAT WERE YOUR FIRST IMPRESSIONS OF THE CREW? WILL DAISY AND NATASHA CONTINUE TO CLASH? WILL JEAN-LUC CUT IT THIS SEASON ON BELOW DECK SAILING YACHT?

As chief stew, Irish born and bred Daisy is no stranger to the world of yachting—she comes from a family full of them. While she does have a legacy to uphold upon the Parsifal III, as we'll soon learn, she's no stranger to letting loose from time to time.

Daniele "Dani" Soares

Position: Second Stew

Instagram: @iamdanisoares

As Parsifal III's second stew, Dani has more than than eight years' of experience on yachts. Yes, she's great at her job, but she also admits having a sensitive side to her, which can sometimes get in the way of getting the job done.

Position: Third Stew

A relative newbie to yachting, Dore is hoping to gain more experience on the Parsifal III. Safe to say we can already predict some discord amongst the interior crew, based on their varying experience levels.

Natasha De Bourg

Parsifal III's new chef Natasha comes to the yacht with years of European culinary experience at Michelin-star establishments. She has sharp skills, which are only matched by her sharp tongue.

Position: First Mate

As this season's first mate, Gary comes aboard the Parsifall III with over a decade of experience on both small boats and super yachts. As of June 2019, it appears he was in a relationship...which may or may not change when he's onboard the Parsifal.

Jean-Luc Cerza Lanaux

Position: Deckhand

Instagram : @jeanluc_cerza_lanaux

Although he's technically the youngest crew member about Parsifal III at 25, it doesn't mean Jean-Luc isn't familiar with yachts. A former football player, the 6'8" deckhand has some experience working hard to achieve his goals.

Sydney Zaruba

below deck sailing yacht season2 pictured sydney zaruba photo by laurent bassetbravo

Instagram: @sydney_zaruba

As the lone female deckhand this season, Sydney isn't afraid to jump in to help. Previously, Sydney worked for her family's boat business.

Captain Glenn Shephard

below deck sailing yacht season2 pictured captain glenn shephard photo by laurent bassetbravo

Position: Captain

Instagram: @bigsailboats

Back for his sophomore season on the beloved boat franchise, Captain Glenn is still the calm and laid-back leader we all loved last year. But his crew members better watch out—despite his chill exterior, he's not afraid to give a piece of his mind when needed.

Like a beautiful sailboat picking up plenty of wind in the middle of the sea, I find myself swaying back and forth at the thought of Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 2, which premieres tonight at 9 pm ET/PT on Bravo. On one side, I am still emotionally hungover from the last season of Below Deck which ended a mere week ago. But on the other side, this show has clearly learned from its mistakes and this season could be a real doozy.

So I will take an Advil, a bagel, and a Gatorade and get over my hangover as there’s too much good stuff that I won’t want to miss. For starters, Captain Glenn is back, hooray! His expertise and excitement for sailing, mixed with his calm, Canadian demeanor remain the perfect mix for leading this boat. But besides him and the boat, Parsifal III, there are no other familiar faces returning this season, and that was 100% the right move, for a few reasons. Season 1 was a new adventure into the sailing world, and it wasn’t all bad, but there were few bright spots in the casting. The mix was never quite right — if anything, it was all wrong. Not to discriminate against those that have found love in their lives, because congrats or whatever, but this season is working with an all-single cast and I’m here for it. Serious relationships, on the boat or on land, have no place in the Below Deck franchise, and luckily, this cast is well aware of that.

Also: they’re all hot. First mate Gary is ready to party, Chef Natasha has the perfect fiery attitude we expect a chef to have, and chief stew Daisy has a feisty Irish spirit to her that gives me a lot of hope for the season. Plus, the women onboard outnumber the men, and that’s going to make for an interesting and refreshing dynamic. Of course, there are still the Below Deck staples, such as second stew Dani who comes with lots of experience and third stew Alli who… does not, as well as some dunce moves on deck. For my money, Colin the engineer is the hottest of the crew but Jean-Luc, all six-foot-nine-inches of him, will have viewers talking.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht , along with your favorite Instagram influencers, also made the decision to essentially ignore Covid. The season was filmed last summer in Croatia, one of the only available locations for this type of tourism, and the pandemic is only briefly mentioned in the first episode as a reason why the guests will be extra ready to blow off some steam. There are no masks or safety precautions shown as everyone has already been tested and is essentially entering into their own little bubble, but it still feels strange to have it not be addressed at all. Not that I want to relive it, by any means, but to really lean into the escapism of it all is certainly a choice here and one that I hope doesn’t come off as tacky throughout the season.

But tacky might be the name of the game. After all, the upstairs-downstairs divide appears to be closing in, with both the crew and the guests wildly eager to party after months of being stuck inside. The trailer for this season felt naughtier than ever, and hell, even the crew’s peachy orange work shirts seem to be screaming out for a good time. And while sex sells, this show still delivers where it counts: honestly, the sailing is very cool. I’m not over it! It’s majestic and pretty and looks great on camera. I’m even here for the drama of items falling off the walls. So while we’re still sitting inside our same walls, Below Deck Sailing Yacht encourages us to embrace the escape of touching, traveling, and trouble, for as much as the world may change, some things dependably stay the same.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht premieres Monday, March 1 at 9 pm ET/PT on Bravo.

SuperYachts Croatia, the leading local yacht broker, understands the allure of Croatian yachting experiences as depicted in “ Below Deck ” since throughout the show’s history, Croatia has served as a filming location for three distinct “Below Deck” iterations:

Below Deck: Mediterranean (Seasons 2 & 6): This popular version of the show capitalized on Croatia’s magnificent cruising grounds, allowing viewers to virtually sail alongside Captain Sandy as she navigated the country’s picturesque beaches, hidden bays, charming capes, and traditional fishing villages.

Below Deck: Sailing Yacht: This version delved into the world of sailing yachts, showcasing the unique challenges and rewards that come with this adventurous style of yachting. While the crew grappled with the complexities of sail operation, the breathtaking Croatian backdrop remained a constant reminder of the destination’s undeniable beauty.

These three instances highlight Croatia’s undeniable appeal as a yachting destination. SuperYachts Croatia, the best local partner in crafting unforgettable yachting experiences, takes inspiration from the breathtaking locations showcased in “Below Deck” and goes even further. We curate personalized itineraries that allow you to discover hidden coves, explore charming towns, and immerse yourself in the rich cultural tapestry that Croatia has to offer.

With over 2600 hours of sunshine annually, Zlarin is a haven for sun-seekers, offering pristine beaches and secluded coves. Returning once again to Trogir, this “Museum City” is renowned for its medieval architecture, impressive palaces, and quaint cobbled streets, protected by UNESCO. Combine the cultural experience with the natural beauty of Mala Oštrica Bay, offering pristine surroundings for swimming and relaxing close to the vibrant city.

Captain Glenn Shepard took the wheel in Below Deck: Sailing yacht, season 2, when the series once again visited Croatia aboard the magnificent Parsifal III sailing yacht, departing from Split’s Marina Lav.

The yacht charted a course towards Stipanska Cove on Brač Island. This secluded paradise offers crystal-clear waters, gentle pine forests, and absolute privacy – ideal for charter guests who want to escape the stress of everyday life and business.

Experience tranquillity and privacy in this secluded bay, surrounded by turquoise waters and lush pine forests – relax on the beach, swim in the crystal-clear water, or explore the island’s hiking trails.

The following episode changed the scenery with Parsifal III berthing in the beauty of Livka Bay, another haven for yacht charter guests in Croatia. This area boasts calm waters perfect for water toys and relaxation. Since the water is so clear here, guests can also explore the underwater world through snorkeling or diving.

Following Livka Bay, the magic of the Paklinski Islands was next for the show, a renowned archipelago featuring 16 islands and islets. Palmižana, a vibrant nautical hub of the region, offers stunning bays, coves, and endless opportunities for water sports and diving. There is also a potential to be discovered in Palmižana`s numerous restaurants, shops, and bars.

Yacht charter in Hvar

Following Parsifal III`s foam trail, the cast and the crew of Below Deck: Sailing Yacht arrived on Hvar Island, where history comes alive in the ancient town of Stari Grad and its impressive medieval architecture, including city walls, churches, and palaces.

The town of Stari Grad is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, renowned for its well-preserved medieval architecture, charming streets, ancient city walls, and historical landmarks like churches and palaces.

After some respite on Hvar, the yacht continued onwards to the island of Čiovo, near Trogir. The convenient location of Čiovo Island offers easy access to Trogir, Split, and the Split airport. But this is also a place to engage in various water activities and explore the surrounding islands with the yacht’s water toys.

The penultimate episode of the season centered around the location of Šolta island, more specifically Maslinica bay. The nearby islets offer a perfect opportunity to have fun with water toys, surrounded by a picturesque pine forest and rocky coastline. Explore the seven nearby islets with the yacht’s water toys, go snorkeling, or simply enjoy some afternoon snacks and champagne on the yacht`s sundeck.

For the season finale, Parsifal III berthed on Korčula island , allowing yacht guests to visit the historic walled city of Stari Grad, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

When was Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 2 filmed?

Below Deck Sailing Yacht fans are wondering when and how Season 2 was filmed.

The coronavirus pandemic has been impacting the television industry since last year. It’s one reason fans are curious about when Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 2 was filmed.

After all, travel has been restricted due to the health crisis for nearly a year. Below Deck Season 8 even abruptly ended when the last two charters canceled, and the world essentially shut down.

When did Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 2 film?

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 2 was filmed in late summer 2020. The show filmed for six weeks straight, with safety protocols in place for COVID-19.

“We filmed this season of Sailing Yacht in August of 2020,” producer Jill Goslicky revealed in an AMA (Ask Me Anything) on Reddit with first mate Gary King and Captain Glenn Shephard.

Deckhand Sydney Zaruba revealed that Croatia was chosen for the show because it was one of a few areas that allowed travel abroad last summer. Plus, the number of COVID-19 cases was extremely low in Croatia.

There are rumors Below Deck Mediterranean Season 6 filmed at the same time to ensure both shows would hit airwaves this year.

The miracle season of Below Deck Sailing Yacht

Captain Glenn and Jill spilled that Season 2 of Below Deck Sailing Yacht was often referred to as the miracle season. The cast, the production team, and guests all dealt with strict protocols to be part of the show.

“I’m amazed we were able to do it,” Captain Glenn expressed. “Being in Croatia, which was a tiny fraction of what was going on in Spain. Obviously, they had some but very, very low incidents of coronavirus. Of course, we had to take all kinds of serious precautions, and the protocols were strict.”

Viewers won’t see any masks on Below Deck Sailing Yacht, nor will the coronavirus pandemic be mentioned that much. Everyone involved, including charter guests, had to quarantine for two weeks and frequently endured COVID-19 testing.

“COVID changed almost everything about how we shoot the show, with safety being the top priority. And I still marvel at the fact that our production crew bravely went out there and pulled this whole thing off. I will forever be in awe of them for that,” Jill admitted.

One change fans will notice will be the crew night outs. There was no bar hopping or exploring Croatia. Instead, the Season 2 crew nights off take place on the Parsifal III.

Chief stew Daisy Kelliher believes the restriction and COVID-19 lockdowns added to the sex-crazed crew partying hard . Yes, there will be some impact from the coronavirus that fans will see onscreen, just not in the way viewers might think.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht airs Mondays at 9/8c on Bravo.

How to watch ‘Below Deck’ in order, with all spinoffs included

Rafaela Coimbra

Nowadays, reality show enthusiasts have plenty of content to go through when they feel like being taken away to a tropical location. Below Deck , however, remains one of the favorites in that regard, following the day-to-day lives of crews that work and reside aboard incredibly expensive yachts.

Naturally, it provides all the necessary drama that makes a good reality show, to the point where viewers often wonder if the show is scripted . Whether it is or not, what matters is that it’s entertaining, and at that, Below Deck excels; so much so that its success has led to the creation of four spin-offs. Of course, this has delighted hardcore fans of the show, but with over 20 seasons between all the franchise’s installments, it can be difficult for newcomers to know where to start. To make that task easier, here we list all the seasons of Below Deck and its spin-offs in order of release.

1. Below Deck — season 1

'Below Deck' season 1 promotional image

The season that started it all premiered on July 1, 2013, and featured the superyacht Honor. It was the shortest season of the main series, running for only 11 episodes before coming to a close on Sept. 9 of the same year.

2. Below Deck — season 2

'Below Deck' season 2 promotional picture

3. Below Deck — season 3

4. Below Deck Mediterranean — season 1

Mediterranean is the first of the Below Deck spin-offs and its debut season took place aboard the Ionian Princess yacht. This season aired 13 episodes between May 3 and July 26, 2016.

5. Below Deck — season 4

6. Below Deck Mediterranean — season 2

This season, fans get to witness all the action unfold in Croatia, aboard the superyacht Sirocco. Season two of the Mediterranean spin-off aired 15 episodes in 2017, between May 2 and Aug. 5.

7. Below Deck — season 5

Set in the Leeward Island of Saint Martin, season five aired from Sept. 5 to Dec. 12, 2017. Much like the previous entry, this season lasted for 15 eventful episodes.

8. Below Deck Mediterranean — season 3

The 17 episodes that make up this season were filmed in Italy, aboard the Talisman Maiton, and aired in 2018, between May 15 and Sept. 11.

9. Below Deck — season 6

Aired from Oct. 2, 2018, to Feb. 5, 2019, season six sees the crew on a new yacht, My Seanna. Set in Tahiti, French Polynesia, this season has 17 episodes for viewers to feast their eyes upon.

10. Below Deck Mediterranean — season 4

This season premiered on June 3, 2019, and had the gorgeous French Riviera as a backdrop. It all came to an end on Sept. 13, though, with the season’s 18th episode.

11. Below Deck — season 7

With 20 episodes, season seven is the longest in the main series of Below Deck . It started on Oct. 7, 2019, and concluded on Feb. 17, 2020.

12. Below Deck Sailing Yacht — season 1

With a new spin-off comes a new yacht, Parsifal III, captained by Glenn Sheppard. Season one of Sailing Yacht aired 17 episodes between Feb. 3 and May 25, 2020.

13. Below Deck Mediterranean — season 5

With 22 episodes, season five of Mediterranean takes the cake for most episodes in the entire franchise. Filmed in Mallorca, Spain, aboard The Wellington, this season ran from June 1 to Oct. 26, 2020.

14. Below Deck — season 8

My Seanna came back for Below Deck ’s eighth season, but this time, the crew sailed through Antigua and Barbuda. The season’s 17 episodes were released from Nov. 2, 2020, to Feb. 22, 2021.

15. Below Deck Sailing Yacht — season 2

On March 12, 2022, Down Under debuted its very first episode, taking fans of the franchise on a trip to Australia. The season lasted for 17 episodes, reaching an end on June 23.

20. Below Deck Mediterranean — season 7

To fans’ joy, this season has a total of 20 episodes, which aired from July 11 to Nov. 22, 2022. The small country of Malta provided the setting for the spin-off’s seventh season, and Home was the vessel of choice.

21. Below Deck Adventure — season 1

The first season of Adventure was aboard the yacht Mercury and ran from Nov.1, 2022, to Jan. 31, 2023. While its 13 episodes may sound like too little, this season did a great job depicting the beautiful scenery of Norway.

22. Below Deck — season 10

This is the latest season of Below Deck , which takes place along the coast of Saint Lucia. Its 17 episodes were released between Nov. 21, 2022, and March 20, 2023.

Here Are All Of The Filming Locations In Below Deck Mediterranean History

From sailing around the Greek islands to coasting in Croatia, Captain Sandy Yawn and crew have been places.

below deck sailing yacht season 2 croatia

When the  Below Deck Mediterranean  crew is sailing around the Mediterranean with Captain Sandy Yawn at the helm, they are bound to make port in some gorgeous locations.

How to Watch

Watch Below Deck Mediterranean  on Mondays at 9/8c and next day on  Peacock . Catch up on the Bravo app .

Each season brings a different group of crew members together in a brand new location on yet another mega yacht. Whether they're exploring the Greek islands with charter guests, trying to set up a picnic on the windy coast of Croatia, or dealing with difficult guests in the South of France, the crew members are always prepared to deal with what is given to them. And being able to hang out in a gorgeous locale between charters certainly doesn't hurt, either.

But these locations are not chosen at random . In 2020, the  New York Times  reported that a suitable location for filming each season offers "easy access to a major airport", a "robust network of local suppliers able to continuously outfit the yacht with perishables like ice and fresh meat," and "be a place that will look beautiful on TV."

When it comes to the Mediterranean, it's seems like it'd be hard for there  not  to be a beautiful location. Read on to live out all of your yachting fantasies.

Season 1: The Greek Islands

Below Deck Mediterranean Season 1 took place in the Greek Islands.

Season 1 of  Below Deck Med kicked off on the coast of Greece  — and, more specifically, the Greek Islands. This debut season of the  Below Deck  spinoff was the franchise's   first time venturing to the Mediterranean even though, as one of the cast members stated in the introduction to the first episode of Season 1, "the Mediterranean is the hub of yachting."

This gave charter guests the opportunity to explore all of the gorgeous locations. "We have Mykonos to the north, Santorini to the south," the late Captain Mark Howard said in Season 1. "Every time we drop anchor it will be some place different for them."

And that is exactly what charter guests did aboard the  M/Y  Ionian Princess  in the debut season. Although the crew — including  Below Deck Med  mainstay, chief steward Hannah Ferrier — were a bit Americanized, they were still able to manage. After throwing a hoedown and coming up with a way for charter guests to make s'mores in Greece, the crew members still got to enjoy the crystal blue waters that the Greek islands had to offer.

Season 2: Croatia

Below Deck Med season 2 takes place in Croatia.

Captain Sandy's debut season found her controlling the  M/Y Sirocco  on the Adriatic Sea along the coast of Croatia, primarily along the Dalmatian coast.

"Croatia is the Mediterranean's hidden gem. It has like, hundreds of islands," said one crew member in Season 2, Episode 1. "Everything about this place is just gorgeous," added another.

But Captain Sandy's first season wasn't entirely full of smooth sailing. Captain Sandy and returning chief steward Hannah were at odds after Hannah allegedly  kissed a charter guest behind closed doors and continued to stay in contact with the person, breaking one of Captain Sandy's biggest rules.

RELATED: Here's What Hannah Ferrier Has Been Up To Since Below Deck Mediterranean

In spite of the conflict, the crew still ended up loving Captain Sandy for her fantastic personality and impeccable leadership skills. "She's easy going, she's funny, and she's so laid back," deckhand Max Hagley said. "I mean, if she was any more laid back, she'd fall over."

Season 3: Italy

Below Deck Season 3 took place in Italy.

Captain Sandy returned for good in Season 3 of  Below Deck Med, this time aboard the  M/Y Talisman Maiton , sailing around coastal Italy in the "biggest yacht" that she had ever captained.

"You can't help but think of Italy as the most romantic place in the world," one crew member said in Season 3, Episode 1. "Naples is a big super yacht marina," Captain Sandy added. "Lovely anchorages: Capri, Ischia, Positano."

Hannah and Chef Adam Glick were the only returning crew members this season, but that didn't stop the crew from mostly working well together. Lead deckhand  João Franco hit it off with second and third stews , Brooke Laughton and Kasey Cohen , but found himself clashing with Hannah  due to their different personalities.

Season 4: France

Below Deck Med season 5 takes place in France.

Below Deck Med  took to the south of France for the first time in Season 4, aboard the M/Y Sirocco  first seen in Season 2. And this updated location brought a new bout of charter guests and crew members alike. "South of France is a playground for the wealthiest people in the world," one crew member said during Episode 1.

"You have Cannes, St. Tropez, Nice, and Monaco," Captain Sandy added. "It's where everyone shows off. Look at me. Look how big my boat is."

Hannah, for one, was looking forward to docking in a new country . "The South of France is my home away from home," she said. "I actually discovered it when I was traveling around Europe with my mom. I went home and put into Google, 'what can I do speaking English in the South of France' and yachting came up and voilà."

In spite of being in her happy place, Hannah and Captain Sandy found themselves in a tiff when Sandy wasn't pleased with Hannah 's level of service, which she claimed had been declining all season. But despite their issues, coupled with a change in chef midway through the charter, the crew  — even Hannah and Sandy — were able to end on good terms.

Season 5: Spain

Below Deck Med Producer Bts

Season 5 had the  M/Y Wellington  cruising in the ever-so-desirable location off the island of Mallorca, Spain.

"Mallorca is literally one of the most beautiful islands in the Mediterranean," Hannah, back for her fifth season as Chief Steward, told cameras in Episode 1. "The anchorages are stunning. The waters are second to none."

But this was also a season for the history books. Why? Because for the first time, Captain Sandy had a female bosun , Malia White , putting women in all of the positions of leadership, and   it was officially the "biggest boat" that Captain Sandy had ever steered (take that, Season 3). How is that for some girl power?

RELATED: What Below Deck Mediterranean Season 5 Alum Jessica More Is Doing Now

But in typical  Below Deck Med  fashion, things had to go wrong. The first charter got a little complicated when Hannah found herself in  conflict with her second stew , Lara Flumiani , and Malia felt like she wasn't being respected  by her deck crew. Later on in the season, Captain Sandy found that Hannah was in possession of medication that she wasn't prescribed, making her too much of a risk to go to sea. She then asked Hannah to leave the ship for good.

Season 6: Croatia

Below Deck Med Season 6 takes place in Croatia.

After a rocky season in Season 5, Season 6 started off on a high with a brand new chief stew , Katie Flood , returning bosun  Malia, and Captain Sandy's second time yachting in Croatia — this time docking the  M/Y Lady Michelle  in Šibenik.

Malia, personally, was happy to be back. "It's actually a crazy feeling being back in Croatia, because the last time I was here, I was a green deckie," she said in Episode 1 of Season 6, referring to her first appearance on Below Deck Med  in Season 2. "It was the opportunities that Captain Sandy gave me that made me want to stick with yachting."

Captain Sandy was also very happy to be back. "Being back here on the Dalmatian coast, based in Šibenik, it's more nature, country, small village. I love that."

Of course, this season was not without its fair share of excitement. Captain Sandy got to officiate her first a wedding on ship, in between trying to calm down  an injured chef , managing a very "green" deck crew , and navigating a massive rain storm. Hey, no one said charter season would be a walk in the park.

Season 7: Malta

Below Deck Med Season 7 takes place in Malta.

This season found Captain Sandy in her first time ever in Malta and it's safe to say that it was exciting for her. "Malta is a small country off the coast of Sicily," Captain Sandy said in Season 7 Episode 1. "It has so many different influences. Arabic, Italian, Spanish. It's a little piece of paradise that hasn't been discovered by the super yacht industry."

In addition to being in a new place, Captain Sandy was dealing with an all new crew — chief steward, Natasha Webb , head chef, Dave White , and bosun, Raygan Tyler .

RELATED: Here's What Chef Dave White Has Been Up To Since Below Deck Mediterranean

"This season for me, it's a new place, a new boat, with new department heads," Captain Sandy said in the first episode. (This was the recipe for either a great charter season aboard the  M/Y Home  or a terrifying one.) "Challenge accepted," she said.

But this new location did give way to new difficulties. Captain Sandy had to deal with hiring a new bosun after a major error was made and had to hire extra deckhands and an extra stew to help pick up some slack. Still, she managed to make do, and the charter season was completed successfully.

Season 8: Italy

Below Deck Med Season 8 takes place in Italy.

Captain Sandy was already very familiar with Season 8's location in Genoa, Italy: She previously lived there for a year and had come to know the lay of the land before climbing aboard M/Y Mustique  in Season 8. "Genoa's one of the busiest ports in Europe," she said in Episode 1.

"It's beautiful. It is the Italian Riviera," she added. "You have all these amazing places you can drop anchor. It's an epic experience."

And what an experience it has been so far this season. Not only did the chief stew and second stew get caught up in customs ahead of the first charter, Captain Sandy's bosun, Ruan Irving , had incorrect paperwork, leading her to have to assign Luka Brunton as bosun at the last minute.

In spite of these changes, the scenery has been beautiful this season — and that will never change.

Filmed in Croatia: Below Deck Mediterranean starts airing in the US

The most watched American reality series Below Deck Mediterranean, which was filmed last year in Croatia in Šibenik and Šibenik waters, has started airing in America on the popular cable television Bravo TV, Iva Bahunek, head of the Croatian Tourist Board in Los Angeles said.

“The show will last at least 16 weeks, which is the perfect time for additional promotion of Croatia. Namely, this is the period when Americans most often book their trips for next year, and an additional benefit is the fact that this series is shown in other countries as well. The production team is also pleased with the assessment that, of all the seasons so far, the most attractive and interesting is the season filmed in Croatia,”said Bahunek, adding that this was the first Hollywood production to be filmed outside the United States last year at the time of the global pandemic.

This popular American reality show is broadcast on the Bravo TV network, one of the most watched American cable televisions, which in 2020 recorded a large increase in “view on demand”, 427 million, as well as 222 million “live broadcasts”.

The concept of the series includes following the professional and private life of the crew and their guests on mega yachts, and so far a total of 15 seasons of this reality series have been filmed, consisting of three separate units: Below Deck, which is filmed in tropical destinations, then Below Deck Mediterranean, which is filmed in the Mediterranean, and the latest variant of the Below Deck Sailing Yacht, which, unlike other variants of the series, is filmed on large sailboats.

I lived ‘below deck’ on a luxury yacht — here’s what you need to know.

Tahiti, St. Thomas and the French Riviera — I’ve yachted in all of these exotic locales, albeit from the comfort of my couch. And, millions of Americans are in the same boat.

In 2013, “Below Deck,” introduced the masses to the most glamorous mode of traveling: yachting. Since then, it’s become a Bravo mainstay with Season 9 of “Below Deck Mediterranean’’ premiering in June.

But how real is the reality show? I spent five nights on a yacht in Croatia to find out.

A woman in a bikini standing on the deck of the 'Adriatic Escape' boat, ready to experience reality TV drama on the high seas in Maldives.

A tip on tipping

My suitcase wasn’t bursting with Benjamins. An agency at your final destination provides cash for the crew’s tip money. While you’re expected to tip $30,000 for a two-night cruise on “Below Deck,” in real life you only have to tip 10% to 15% of your charter fee. That’s about $10,000 for a two-night cruise on a 180-foot charter yacht like Mustique (from $250,000 a week), which stars in the new season.

According to Zvonimir Androić, president of the yacht charter company Via Croatia, more often than not, the tip comes from what’s left over after provisioning.

So, shun the Dom Pérignon and skip the beluga caviar, and you’ll have money to spare.

What’s up, dock?

A luxury yacht, named Adriatic Escape, docked at Split Marina with a weekly rental price of US$52,800

In real life, “Below Deck’s” favorite commercial-break cliff-hanger isn’t nearly as dramatic. Docking in our yacht, Via Croatia’s five-cabin, 100-foot Adriatic Escape (from $52,800 a week), was breezy.

I asked the crew if they hated setting up the slide — a tortuous, Herculean task if you believe what you see on TV.

“It’s not that bad,” a twentysomething Croatian deckhand, as cute as his on-screen counterparts, told me. “That said, we’re definitely not sad if you don’t ask for it.”

Play it cool

Barbie Pascual arranging a table on the set of Below Deck Season 11.

Despite being served meat on more than one occasion, my vegetarian co-guests on board weren’t divas when it came to cuisine — a major source of chef-related stress on the show.

Tantrums aren’t the norm Barbie Pascual, the “Below Deck” stewardess famous for putting up with former “RHONY” star Jill Zarin’s demands for the perfect Diet Coke in the “Real Housewives of Grenada” episode, tells me. “Guests know they are being filmed so their reactions are more extreme than they’d be if the cameras weren’t around,” she says.

Pascual’s biggest tip for first-time yachters? Don’t go skinny dipping, like they do on the show, after dark.

“People forget about currents, sharks, etc.,” she says. “Jumping in the water should always be with the captain’s consent!”

Our humorless Croatian yacht captain was a far cry from “Below Deck Mediterranean’s” affable Captain Sandy Yawn. I think we only saw him twice over the course of four days, and he definitely didn’t join us for dinner.

That was fine by us because the stews and deckhands were always handy with anything we needed — including at chat.

Asking for it

A group of people on the Adriatic Escape boat, available for weekly rent at $52,800

“No” is a word you’ll never hear on a yacht, unless there is a safety issue, Pascual says.

While we didn’t ask our crew to do a striptease or decorate for ‘70s night (two recurring requests on the show), out-there demands aren’t out of the question, as long as you’re willing to pay for it.

For example, Via Croatia is currently retrofitting one of its multimillion-dollar superyachts for an upcoming charter booked by a multigenerational Jewish family from Florida.

“In addition to paying the charter fee, the client is literally buying everything new: pots, pans, silverware, et cetera,” said Androić. “They’re even spending $30,000 on a new tender for the elderly mother-in-law.”

Now, I’m no reality show producer, but a picky primary trying to keep his wife, her elderly mom and their kosher kids happy at sea has the makings of an Emmy Award-winning episode.

Yachting on a budget

Agape Rose, an ultra luxury mini cruiser yacht with various amenities, sailing on Croatia's Adriatic coast.

Charters are cheapest at the beginning and end of a destination’s season. Via Croatia’s yuppiest yacht, the 160-foot, 12-cabin Agape Rose , fetches $200,000 a week in July and August. But it’s just $164,000 a week in April and October. Divide that by 24 of your closest friends and family and it’s just $6,800 a person.

If that’s still too much, consider booking a yacht club suite on one of MSC Cruises ’ Mediterranean voyages.

Sure, you’ll be on a cruise liner, but for $1,659 a person you’ll be treated to seven nights of private butler service with a private pool and restaurant that the pleb passengers don’t even know exists.

Gary King Has Ruined Below Deck Sailing Yacht's Future (It Will Never Be The Same)

  • Gary King's sexual misconduct allegations have cast a shadow over the future of Below Deck Sailing Yacht.
  • Despite his problematic behavior, Gary has continued to film for the upcoming season of the show.
  • The handling of Gary's actions has raised questions about the show's direction and the potential for a cast shakeup.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht 's future is uncertain after First Officer Gary King 's sexual misconduct allegations. Gary premiered in the franchise in Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 2 under Captain Glenn Shephard. Gary came into the franchise with more than 10 years of experience in the yachting industry when he joined Parsifal III in 2021. Gary showcased his abilities as a leader and demonstrated his prowess on deck and familiarity with sailboats. He quickly made friends with Captain Glenn, and the two have become close friends over the years.

Outside of his abilities on deck, Gary proved to provide highly entertaining reality TV. The playboy did not shy away from developing boatmances, and his player attitude has drama for him every season. Gary hails from South Africa and is currently 35 years old. On the show, Gary most notably made waves for his friendship turned situationship with Below Deck Sailing Yacht Chief Stew, Daisy Kelliher . The pair have had a contentious working relationship and an even more complicated friendship. However, there are bigger problems than his relationship with Daisy that are affecting the franchise as a whole.

Reality TV is more popular than ever. With so many to choose from, here are some of the best reality TV shows to stream or watch right now.

Gary's Sexual Misconduct Allegations Explained

The incident happened in summer 2022.

Allegations from Below Deck makeup artist Samantha Suarez against Gary came out in August 2023. She detailed an incident that took place during the filming of Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 4, which filmed in the Summer of 2022. She alleged that while Gary had COVID-19 and was isolating in a hotel prior to the season's filming, he trapped her in his hotel room and attempted to block her exit while grabbing her from behind. She got away from his attempts at physically retraining her and left the room. She then reported it to the network.

Gary and the Below Deck franchise have seemingly taken no responsibility for the incident. The network claims the allegations were investigated and that " action was taken based on the findings." The only reprimand Gary has appeared to have was Bravo pulling him from BravoCon 2023. On Gary's side of things, he doesn't believe he is getting a fair shake and is denying that the incident happened. In a quickly-deleted Instagram comment from Gary, he showcased his lack of awareness and culpability.

"Its so weird, its also so far from the truth. She always wanted a platform and unfortunately Im the unlucky target." Gary continued, "Im not going to let some lying girl get to me read that article fully, multiple times, and this happened to her on multiple seasons seems odd."

Since the allegations have surfaced, Gary has continued to post on social media, although he has steered clear of the misconduct topic after his off-handed Instagram comment. Gary's already-negative reputation has gone further down the drain since the claims surfaced and its fallout. Not only has Gary damaged his own standing among viewers and within the franchise, but his behavior has affected the future of Below Deck Sailing Yacht due to the handling of the situation.

Gary Has Been A Below Deck Franchise Villain

Gary has had outrageous behavior.

The sexual misconduct allegation is another mark against Gary's already terrible image. Gary has conducted himself in his boatmances with little to no regard for the other person's feelings. Gary comes off as selfish, impulsive, and irresponsible. In Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 2, Gary originally hooked up with his deckhand, Sydney Zoruba, who quickly developed feelings for Gary. Gary threw her to the side and made the charter season more awkward and uncomfortable by getting into boatmance with stewardess Ali Dore.

Gary has a habit of going after multiple women each season and shooting his shot in rude and disrespectful ways.

Gary also stirred the pot in Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 4, when he divulged that he and Daisy had secretly hooked up. Daisy was in a relationship with Gary's BFF, and Parsifal III's engineer, Colin MacRae. Gary seems to always top his bad behavior with no regard for the consequences or people's feelings. Gary is also a heavy drinker on the show during crew nights out or in, which only contributes to his negative image.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Is Returning

It's slated for fall 2024.

Bravo 's Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 should have returned in the Spring of 2024. However, Below Deck Med season 9 took its place, even though Below Deck Med season 8 had ended in January 2024. The skipping of BDSY season 5 was likely due to Gary's sexual misconduct allegations and the strategy of Bravo as to how they were going to handle it. The network could have tried to edit Gary out of the season, as they had done with publically marred crew member Peter "Pete" Hunziker in Below Deck Med season 5.

The other route Bravo might have taken, was to scrap already-filmed season 5 completely, in favor of filming an entirely new season without Gary. While that would be the more costly of the two options, it could get the BDSY franchise back in fans' good standings. In any case, Gary has affected the Below Deck Sailing Yacht schedule , and fans have been upset that he even returned to film season 5 given his bad history.

Will Gary Be A Part Of Season 5?

Are there any returning cast.

\n "">

Gary did film Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5, and Daisy was also rumored to have returned for the season. Recently, Daisy shared a carousel of pictures hanging out with Gary, solidifying to fans that they are still in each other's lives. Besides that, in a recent preview of what Bravo has in store for the Fall of 2024, a logo for Below Deck Sailing Yacht was present. That means that Below Deck Sailing Yacht will remain a spinoff in the franchise , but it remains to be seen if Gary will continue to be a part of it.

Gary's actions and behavior over the years has damaged fans perceptions of Below Deck Sailing Yacht .

If they ditch their connection with Gary, there is hope for a brighter future with more quality cast members. For now, Daisy is well-liked and the Chief Stew of the spinoff, but that could change as she's aligned herself with Gary. It is likely there will be a lot of fresh faces in Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5, and that can only help the show's image.

20 Best Reality TV Shows Right Now

The fate of below deck sailing yacht after season 5 isn't promising (the show's reputation is damaged), 90 day fiancé: michael ilesanmi's lawyer files to depose this surprising person after joining new family.

  • Gary King's sexual misconduct scandal risks the future of Below Deck Sailing Yacht.
  • Producers failed to address the controversy, leading to potential show cancelation.
  • To avoid cancellation, the show may need a revamp without Gary as a featured cast member.

Gary King is one of the most prominent cast members from Below Deck Sailing Yacht , but last season's scandal might have put the hit Bravo spin-off in danger. Captain Glenn Shephard leads the crew aboard the Parsifal III, and many popular faces such as Chief Stew, Daisy Kelliher, and Colin Macrae have appeared in the series. However, Gary's love triangle with Daisy and Colin is the least of his worries, given the handling of his sexual misconduct scandal.

The sexual misconduct accusations against Gary stem from an incident reported by Samantha Suarez, a makeup artist who worked on Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 4. According to Samantha, the incident occurred in the summer of 2022 during filming. Allegedly, Samantha escorted a heavily intoxicated Gary back to his hotel room following a confessional interview when he began behaving erratically. Samantha claimed that Gary prevented her from leaving, grabbing her from behind, which left her feeling threatened. Production should be nervous ahead of Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 .

Reality TV is more popular than ever. With so many to choose from, here are some of the best reality TV shows to stream or watch right now.

Producers Should Have Spoken Out After Gary King Scandal

Their statement wasn't enough.

Producers should have spoken out after Gary's scandal with Samantha , but they didn't, adding to the controversy. While it's true that Bravo and the production team behind Below Deck issued a statement addressing the allegations , claiming that they take workplace safety seriously and that the concerns raised by Samantha were investigated, it was too little, too late.

The network failed to hold Gary accountable, especially since he was allegedly allowed to return for Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5, which has yet to air. The backlash against Gary has likely contributed to the slow rollout of the season , adding to the prospect of cancelation. A halfhearted statement from Bravo simply wasn't enough.

Due to of production's lack of action, the controversy surrounding Gary has put Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 in danger. Although the season was filmed, its release has been delayed, and there is speculation that it may be heavily edited to minimize Gary's presence. It's possible the entire season could get scrapped if Gary can't be edited out effectively.

Bravo Never Really Addressed The Gary Scandal

They swept it under the rug.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht producers never really addressed the Gary scandal, hoping that sweeping the accusations under the rug would make the problem go away. However, they didn't do enough damage control. Bravo producers disinvited Gary from BravoCon, adding to the probability of editing him out of Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 or scrapping the season entirely.

The best thing Bravo can do now is fire Gary from the Below Deck franchise and hope to save Below Deck Sailing Yacht without him.

Gary’s future within the Below Deck franchise appears unlikely. The backlash against him has been intense, and while he has had some support from fellow cast member Daisy, it seems unlikely that he will be able to recover his reputation. His removal from BravoCon is proof that the network is distancing itself from him, but it might not be enough to save the spin-off.

This scandal has highlighted the responsibility of reality TV productions in handling misconduct. The show's production team intervened during Below Deck Down Under season 2 when a similar situation occurred, resulting in the firing of Bosun Luke Jones. Netflix's Love Is Blind 's production team has also faced accusations about the mishandling of sexual harassment, including Renee Poche's disastrous engagement to Carter Wall and Tran Dang's lawsuit.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Should Undergo a Revamp To Avoid Getting Canceled

Season 5 needs to be scrapped.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht needs a revamp if the network doesn't want the show to get canceled. If it's true that the season was filmed, production would be better off scrapping the season and starting new without Gary. While that's undoubtedly a huge loss for the network, Gary shouldn't be a featured cast member anymore . His sexual misconduct was inexcusable, and he's had issues in the past with professionalism, harassment, and alcohol abuse. Gary has been given too many chances.

If the network is unwilling to scrap Below Deck Sailing Yach t season 5 and start over, it might be time to scrap the spin-off. Below Deck , Below Deck Mediterranean , and Below Deck Down Under are already incredibly successful, and a popular cast member like Daisy could find a home in one of the other franchises. If Bravo had come out ahead of Gary's scandal, production could have saved the Parsifal III and Captain Glenn. However, they didn't do enough to mitigate it, leading to a possible cancellation. Gary is certainly to blame.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht is available to stream on Peacock.

Ranking Every ‘Below Deck’ Show From Most to Least Memorable: Mediterranean, Adventure and More

Ranking Below Deck s Spinoffs in OrderFrom Med to Adventure

Bravo’s Below Deck series has inspired several spinoffs — but not every one has left an impression.

Below Deck , which debuted on Bravo in 2013, introduced viewers to various crew members who reside and work on a superyacht during charter season. The original series quickly became a major success for the network, spawning spinoffs that include Below Deck Mediterranean, Below Deck Sailing Yacht, Below Deck Down Under and Below Deck Adventure .

The show has since become an example of Bravo’s rare all-year long programming with a Below Deck series airing new episodes at any given moment. While most of the cast has changed from season to season, viewers have gotten invested in some of the mainstays , which are usually the captains and the chief stews or bosuns.

However, not every show has stuck with fans the exact same way. Certain iterations didn’t last longer than a season while others have become more memorable than the OG Below Deck show.

1) ‘Below Deck Mediterranean’

'Below Deck Med' Guest Apologizes After Being Reprimanded by Captain Sandy and Getting Fan Backlash

When some of Us weren’t looking, Below Deck Mediterranean surprisingly became the backbone of the franchise that earned it first place on this list . A large part of that is Captain Sandy Yawn , who for better or for worse has gotten viewers reinvigorated about Below Deck . It takes a special kind of captain to not always make decisions everyone likes but that keeps fans coming back for more.

Sandy’s priority is being a good captain but somewhere along the way she became Below Deck gold. Everything else is just icing on the cake when Sandy is at the center of every season in the Mediterranean.

2) ‘Below Deck’

The original show paved the way for every other iteration to find its place on Bravo. Without Below Deck — and Captain Lee Rosbach — fans wouldn’t know just how compelling drama on the high seas can actually be.

One reason why Below Deck isn’t at the very top is tied to the show’s decision to fix what wasn’t broken. Captain Lee was the face of the franchise — so it wasn’t easy to say goodbye when he was replaced following a decade on Below Deck . The switch came several seasons after chief stew Kate Chastain left and it was too much change at once for some of Us .

3) ‘below deck sailing yacht’.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht's Daisy Kelliher Hints at Falling Out With Colin MacRae Following Season 4 Hookup, Says He Has the 'Most' to Answer for at Reunion

Speaking of shows overshadowed by controversy, Below Deck Sailing Yacht had it all when it originally premiered on Bravo in 2020 . Paternity scandals, love triangles and Below Deck alums that overstayed their welcome by making the audience turn on them again.

Captain Glenn Shephard confidently steered Below Deck Sailing Yacht into a successful future but other factors ultimately got in the way.

First of all, Daisy Kelliher ‘s messy feelings for Colin Macrae and Gary King sounded like good reality TV on paper but it wasn’t as interesting on screen. The trio actually made it harder to come back around each week because it was exhausting to see them hash out their confusing issues.

Season 4 wrapped up with the promise of more episodes before Gary made headlines for his sexual misconduct scandal. He has maintained his innocence and no official statement has been given on the future of the show but Below Deck Sailing Yacht has yet to release any news about another season since the drama.

4) ‘Below Deck Down Under’

Laura Bileskalne Has 'No Regrets' About Being on 'Below Deck Down Under' After Consent Scandal

The spinoff set in Australia should have been a slam dunk with Bravo’s favorite hottie Captain Jason Chambers and fan-favorite chief stew Aesha Scott by his side. However, Below Deck Down Under initially struggled because it was premiering on Peacock instead of Bravo meaning viewers didn’t know to look for a new show.

Season 2 was what put Below Deck Down Under on the map but not for the reason anyone was hoping. A shocking consent scandal halfway through the season resulted in Luke Jones and Laura Bileskaline getting fired from the boat , which Below Deck Down Under was applauded for as new episodes continued to cover the aftermath.

Despite the fact that Jason and Aesha received praise for how they handled the situation , there has been no news about the show’s future. It is possible that the drama overshadowed the show itself — and not in a good way.

5) ‘below deck adventure’.

Ranking Below Deck s Spinoffs in OrderFrom Med to Adventure

The fourth spinoff was meant to be the most action-packed as guests signed up for thrill-seeking activities along the Norwegian Fjords. After premiering in November 2022, Below Deck Adventure failed to find an audience week to week and subsequently faded out of everyone’s mind.

Bravo never announced the show’s cancellation but it’s probably safe to assume that not many fans were asking for a status update. Instead, Captain Kerry Titheradge was moved to Below Deck and everyone forgot the first failed Below Deck spinoff series.

Nikki Glaser at The 2024 ESPY Awards

Comedian Nikki Glaser will be hosting the 2025 Golden Globe Awards ceremony. The 82nd annual show will air on Sunday, January 5, 2025.

Nikki, 40, confirmed the hosting news in a statement on Wednesday, August 28, per Deadline, which read, “I am absolutely thrilled to be hosting the Golden Globes. It’s one of my favorite nights of television and now I get a front row seat (actually, I think I have to host from the stage). The Golden Globes is not only a huge night for TV and film, but also for comedy.”

The Trainwreck actress, who made a memorable appearance in the Netflix special The Roast of Tom Brady , said that the Golden Globes is “one of the few times that show business not only allows but encourages itself to be lovingly mocked (at least I hope so). (God I hope so).”

“It’s an exciting, yet challenging gig because it’s live, unpredictable, and in front of Hollywood’s biggest stars (who also might be getting wasted while seated next to their recent exes),” Nikki added. “Some of my favorite jokes of all time have come from past Golden Globes opening monologues when Tina [ Fey ] , Amy [ Poehler ] , or Ricky [ Gervais ] have said exactly what we all didn’t know we desperately needed to hear. I just hope to continue in that time honored tradition (that might also get me canceled). This is truly a dream job. Plus, I no longer have to feel guilty for every TV show and movie I’ve binged over the past year. It was all worth it. ( Below Deck: Sailing Yacht season 4 will be nominated, right?).”

Chairman and CEO of Dick Clark Productions and Penske Media, Jay Penske, said in a follow-up statement, “Nikki Glaser brings a fresh and unmatched candor to her comedy and to the Golden Globes. Her unapologetic style made her an obvious and compelling choice as host for this year’s event. We’re hopeful this could be the first of many Golden Globes that Nikki will surprise and delight our CBS audience, as well as our audiences around the globe.”

Aside from appearing on The Roast of Tom Brady , Nikki previously hosted the 2021 MTV Movie & TV Awards: Unscripted .
