Inside Najiba: How the 58m Feadship came together
On January 3, the 58 metre freshly christened Feadship Najiba became the first superyacht of the year to hit the water. Now owner’s representative and co-founder of yacht management company MCM, Peter Wilson, has lifted the lid on the challenges he faced overseeing the project.
MCM’s involvement in the project began with a phone call from Philippe Briand’s office, which was responsible for Najiba’s naval architecture. The client wanted to build a 58 metre Vitruvius -designed superyacht, Wilson was told, and was seeking representation.
“We saw this is a great opportunity to be involved in a really special project,” Wilson said. After impressing the client with an initial proposal, MCM was selected to oversee the project and immediately began the shipyard selection process. Dutch yard Feadship were soon chosen and Wilson’s next job was to represent the client’s interests throughout the construction, launch and delivery of the yacht, the latter of which is scheduled for next month.
MCM was tasked with managing the design process, from the initial general arrangement planning down to the minute details of Studio Liaigre’s interior design . Often this meant knowing when to draw a line under the ever-developing design.
“Interior designers are creative people and will keep on generating wonderful new ideas given the opportunity. Sometimes our job involves knowing when to say “Basta!” (enough) as we do have construction schedules and drawing delivery schedules that need to be adhered to,” Wilson said.
During the process Wilson worked closely with the owners, who were “intimately” involved in the design and build process of Najiba . This included “convincing” the owner to build both the hull and superstructure in aluminium.
“The owner was initially on the fence, as he felt a yacht of such substance would typically have a steel hull and aluminium superstructure.” However, a combination of “detailed studies, research and long discussions” managed to convince the owner that an all-aluminium build was the right way to go.
Wilson admits the process is much “easier” with hands-on clients. “Some clients just want to be called when the job is done; others want to be involved in every nut, bolt and door handle, but I have no doubt which is the more rewarding,” he said.
A key part of this involvement meant meeting with the owners multiple times during the build process, notably at Vitruvius’s London office, the Liaigre studio in Paris, the shipyard in Holland and at the Monaco Yacht Show.
The benefit of this involvement worked both ways, Wilson said, helping the owners as well as the yacht management team. “I think their involvement made the whole experience more enjoyable for them and will ultimately enhance their use of the yacht and sense of accomplishment.”

NAJIBA Yacht – Acutely Designed $50M Superyacht
The NAJIBA yacht is a multi-award winning yacht built and delivered by Feadship in 2019 at their Aalsmeer shipyard in the Netherlands.
“Distinguished and elegant”, that’s how Feadship describes the NAJIBA yacht. She is the second largest yacht to be built in aluminum to date by the Dutch company.
Her name means “noble” in Japanese and she currently sales under the Cayman Islands flag. This year, she has her first full refresh.

NAJIBA yacht interior
The NAJIBA yacht interior was penned by Guillaume Rolland from design house Studio Christian Liaigre.
She has been describes as a “whitewashed villa on the beach” thanks to her light, fresh and airy interior.
This custom-made superyacht features a high-end interior that plays with textures, while using a discrete warm color palette.
Thanks to the smart use of glass, the natural light plays a key role to set a relaxing atmosphere throughout the yacht.
NAJIBA has been designed to accommodate up to 12 guests un six staterooms, including two Owner’s cabins (one for each owner). She can also carry 14 crew members on board.
She has an extensive bow and alfresco areas on the main and upper decks.
The NAJIBA yacht is known for being one of the first eco-friendly super yachts. She is fuel-efficient, consuming 11 litres per nautical mile.

The NAJIBA yacht features exterior design by Vitruvius Yachst Ltd and naval architecture by Feadship De Voogt Naval Architects and Philippe Briand Ltd. She is the first Vitruvius design built by the Dutch shipbuilders.
As any other Feadship superyacht, she is characterised for her sleek and minimalist exterior lines, different to any previous yachts built by the company.
Her curvatures make the vessel even more lighter and efficient, helping reduce the hull displacement. NABIJA has a hull of 699.
She is built with a Teak deck and both her hull and superstructure are made out of aluminium.

The NAJIBA is a 58.0m yacht with a 11.03 beam, a 2.6m draft and a volume of 888 GT. She has a fuel capacity of 90,000 litres and can store 22,000 lites of water.
She is powered by twin diesel MTU engines, giving her a cruising speed of 12 knots and reaching a maximum speed of 17 knots with a range of 6,000 nautical miles.

Launched earlier this year, superyacht NAJIBA has now been delivered to her owner. This stunning Feadship motor yacht has embarked on her maiden voyage and is currently on the way to Norway.

Built according to the design developed by Philippe Briand and Feadship De Voogt Naval Architects , this full aluminium superyacht boasts a masculine and sleek exterior look by Vitruvius Yachts . Studio Christian Liaigre worked on the finely detailed and high-end interior. Although images of the interior have not been released at this stage, it is described as bright and spacious, with an abundance of natural light for a relaxing atmosphere onboard.

Accommodation layout comprises of two master suites and four staterooms for a total of 12 guests, assisted by 14 permanent crew.

It is still uncertain whether NAJIBA would become available for charter or not. However, there is a vast selection of luxury charter yachts built by Feadship which you can secure for charter in the Mediterranean this summer and in the Caribbean in winter.
